Took a break from my other game (maintenance time) so i decided to play GW2 new living story episode.

Started game, went to Tarir, used multiloot to get into open map, started story.
First parts, pretty easy. (oozes are annoying as F., not fun at all)
Boss fight starts, didn’t know what to do at first, then i got the gist of it somewhat.
Boss gets damaged, boss gets health back up.
Did that 3 times.
ALT-F4.
Not coming back. I’d rather swallow some poison, and slit my thoat whilst jumping out of a 15 story building just to make sure, then play that crap.
If GW2 still exists when i feel like trying again, maybe, very very maybe i’ll take a peek again, but until then you can stuff LW where the sun don’t shine.
Enjoy.

Legendary Armor

It’s very clear that regarding most mmo’s, the developers aren’t in touch with a majority of their playerbase. Dev’s implement things in a game that they think is what players want, or would find good, but in reality they have no clue whatsoever what a majority thinks.

All they have to go on is some numbers (if they have those) and what players are saying on forums or reddit. And that is never a good idea since you’ll be listening to a minority.

Just look at The Division, an mmo based shooter. They made huge mistakes and that playerbase has gone down to the point that if it were the same here, there’d be no more Gw2. Fortunately for gw, there’s a more loyal playerbase and more ‘diversity’.

Raiding was introduced because someone suggested it and players here asked for it. Now that it’s there, players complain it’s not worth it or it’s not worth the trouble. Only a minority really enjoys it, and that’s good for them, but for most, raiding isn’t even an option because of various reasons : lack of time, lack of interest, lack of skill….whatever the reason.

I got several pre’s (5) over a period of 3 months or so. Did i make a legendary ? No, i did not. Imo, it wasn’t worth the effort compared to getting ascended, and there was no need for it to be able to play content.

This same reasoning goes for legendary armor. You have to ask yourself that and while you’re at it, consider it as a ‘niche’. Something that might or might not look good, but is , in fact, completely useless for most players.

By the time one might craft/get a legendary armor piece, you could have done a lot of other things that you wouldn’t otherwise consider doing. (like finally finishing all fractal levels, or completing that one rare collection…)

I’d say if you want the gear, and you enjoy raids, go for it. If not, pass it over, and think about this for a second :

*The design team and dev’s worked so hard and long to create legendary armor…for only a handful of people. It’s like creating a Vincent van Gogh painting and having only 5 people look at it twice and sayig ‘ooh, that’s nice.’ *

What a waste.

An issue: raids and their accesibility

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Sthenith.5196

I think that for most, it’s not exactly the lfg that is the biggest problem in getting to do raids. You can create your own group, and you can learn it that way if inexperienced.
It’s the mechanics of the raids. You need to have a certain character setup, read: builds, in order to do it within the alloted time.

The mechanics of raids force players to play certain builds and group setups (having 2 chrono/druids/….etc, so that some classes are left out. If you don’t have dedicated healers, or if you do not have condi damagers, or anything else needed for that matter, you’ll fail.

There is no room whatsoever for any mistake(s) or any room for build diversity. That is the most annoying part. With the latest “balance” patch it’s even gotten worse, because most will demand a perfect setup because they don’t want to fail ANY run at all.

In other games it used to be that any failure, no matter how small would result in a total wipe. Anet has copied the view others had in their games albeit on a smaller scale.

That some content should be challenging i think everyone can agree on, but that certain content is placed behind specific builds and classes drives most players away from that content.

I believe that more then 90 % of the players in any mmo doesn’t like to feel forced to play a certain way, and while it might seem desirable to have challenging content, it’s the way it’s implemented that rubs ppl the wrong way.

And imagine this : why would one do the most challenging content in order to get the ‘best’ gear if that said gear is no better then the gear you already have ? Horizontal progression is fine, but forcing players into something just for looks and the ability to change gear build ‘on the fly’ (for the content not needed at all) seems for most over the top.

p.s. : as usual game dev’s cater to the minority. just look at ppl asking for a more challenging Lab.

Legendary Armor

Sthenith.5196

If you talk to people ingame, and if you read comments carefully, you’ll notice that although some might like it, some don’t and some are in-between, the obvious and probably overlooked comment by Anet on this, is that a lot of players are disappointed because legendary armor is gated behind a facet of the game most don’t like : raiding.

It’s not really the “cost” that bothers people. It’s not even the “look” (that’s personal preferrence and can be hidden behind an outfit), it’s the fact Anet decided that raiding is the only way to get it.

Why would i go for something like a fractal backpack or mawdrey, when in less time and with less effort i can get an equal or better (stat-choice) backpack from a map like bloodstone fen? (i do have mawdrey cause that at least gave me different things to do)

Why would i go farm my kitten off and pay through the nose for an equipment that doesn’t give me anything better then i already have ? Is it to show people how much of a no-lifer i am that i pour countless hours, and probably cash, into something that i don’t even need, let alone like ?

I’m not a raider, never will be because i hate it as much as i hate it in any other mmo i’ve played over the years. To those that love raiding, gratz in getting an armor (if you can) you want, but most important, did you have fun getting forced into that gamemode for it ? Most of us aren’t to happy about that, even the hardcore ones.

p.s. : legendary weapons used to be “tha bomb”, now they’re just annoying with their effects. Guess Anet didn’t learn from that at all.
“ooh, look, legendary armor.”
“great, more lag, who gives a F.”

Looks : 10/10
Utility : i’ll pass.

Since it has the same stats as ascended, it’s not really usefull or needed, and why would you want it when you have all those outfits ? To show that you’ve raided your kitten off ?

In the looks department, it’s pretty awesome though, i grant you that. It’s even more impressive then any legendary weapon.

Really? No new Halloween content? Again?

I couldn’t care less about Halloween. No interest in it at all.

I went into the Labyrinth, ran around following a mentor tag, killed 3 bosses, closed some doors, got 8 achievements done and ended up with 173 bags which in turn are oc full of useless crap. There’s nothing available with candy corns that i didn’t get last time, so i don’t see the point in farming the same instance over and over unless it’s to do it like champ trains (mindless numbing farming) for some extra cash.

I’m just getting some achievement points and that’s it. Same boring crap like usual for those that already have experienced it before. For those new to halloween it might be somewhat exiting and a change of pace.

Yeah, those mobs taking so much damage from confusion by spamming that auto attack while running round like newbs…

With a decent condi build (2K+ condi dmg) paired with staff – scepter/focus you’ll apply more then enough bleeds/burns/confusion and vulnerability. Mesmers aren’t useless, it’s how you use them that counts.

On a side note, i love my Chrono equally as much as all my other classes (got em all).

I thought that while i’m waiting for my new game to download on steam, i’d read up on some GW2 news and changes.

But the wall of text from both reddit and this topic makes my eyes bleed. That the devs are responding on reddit means things haven’t changed since i last actually played.
And browsing though all the new information makes me feel i haven’t been missing anything while i’m playing Fallout4, FC Primal and RotTR.

There is so much stagnation (it really feels that way) in GW2 and so many interesting games coming out, that GW2 slowly retreats in the back of my mind. In hindsight, I’d rather have spend the 50€ from HoT on another game. What a waste.

Do accounts have "luck", and is it right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

http://neurope.eu/article/does-luck-exist-or-it-state-mind/

Basically, “luck” is a matter of perspective.

“Randomness” doesn’t really exist. One simple variable, like a drop in a pond, can cause other effects that will lead to a certain result. The moment you press the button on the MF to get a new item, is the moment endless effects come to a conclusion. It might be the time (to the nanosecond), the number of people in that moment online and pressing or not pressing, the processor of your pc doing a calculation… anything imaginable, all possible ‘effects’ will contribute to the exact calculation of the “RNG”.
Press one nanosecond later and you get a different rng.

The number of possibilities are endless, but we only “percieve” them as random or semi-random, and any conclusion to them we call lucky or unlucky.

I’ve gotten 2 pre’s within 5 minutes of eachother, is that luck ? I’ve fallen down some steps and bruised 3 ribs , is that unlucky (i didn’t die of a head injury) ? (true facts for me btw)
It’s a result of a humanly (even with super computers) impossible to achieve calculation of near limitless ‘events’ that contribute to those results. You might as well say that God (or another deity of your choosing) has granted you that.

I simply say : if you don’t get it, suck it up. If you do, good for you.

KDB Daewoo: sales warning for HoT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sthenith.5196

The bad feelings of many players about Hot seem to materialise in disappointing sales numbers.

Mostly this.

I find myself logging in just to get the daily reward and maybe, just maybe, do a daily or 2 before i log off and play fallout4. I can’t get myself to spend any(more) cash on or in the game, leaving me with just the basic things to do.

Although it is a fun ride playing GW2, i feel like the whole HoT hype and all the changes they implement, most of which are not desired by the players themselves, are preventing me from having fun like it was in the core game before.

A lot of players have either left the game or are restricting their purchases to the bare minimum (or nothing at all) because they don’t like the way the dev’s are guiding GW2.

Instead of adressing the basic things most players ingame (not forums) find annoying or even gamebreaking, the dev’s come up with the things they themselves see as ‘needed’. I think it’s obvious that the developers have a different vision of what the gamers want or need.

And that will definately reflect in sales. Once a players leaves a game behind, chances are quite low that they will return for the duration.

Easiest profession for limited dexterity?

Limited dexterity = less movement as possible, or less strain.

Use ranger. target enemy, press healing spring, press 1, let pet tank while you keep hitting.
It’s a ‘fire and forget’ kinda thing. No strain, hardly any dodging needed, a no brainer really.

Warrior might be an easy class, but you still need dodges and the likes. Any other profession as advice is a really really bad idea. Really bad. (dex wise)

Things and changes you don't like

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sthenith.5196

Although GW2 is a great game, it lacks a stable unchanging ‘baseline’. With all the changes and additions and nerfing, there are some things that bother me as much as i’m sure they bother others as well. Here’s a list.

- WvW. Dead as a dodo, biggest zerg wins if you can find one. Get in, do HP’s, get some coins for the stuff you want, get out never to return.

- PvP. Only a handful of classes/builds are even viable there, most don’t even come into play or even stand a chance. In comparison with my all time favorite pvp called Knight Online, this one scales as a -5 on a scale to 20, 20 being the game KO.

- Dungeons. Well, by now we all know that’s a dead zone. Only worth IF you go for the armor skins and for legendaries. Nothing else to find there.

- Fractals. Repeatable dailies, the same instances over and over and over again. Boring as hell, but the rewards are not bad.

- Worldbosses. Oh joy. They finally gonna make achievements out of Shatterer. Oh joy, they’re gonna give us TWO rares instead of ONE. Yay us, we’re rich. (this was sarcasm.)
Most WB’s are done for those that want rares or go for achievements. A snoozefest where you press 1 otherwise. PS dev’s : players are going to find a way to kill shatterer fast. No matter how you make it “challenging”.

- PvE :
A. The crafting system is insanely expensive (scribing…..) or behind timegating. Well, at least it’s a way to make crafting ‘challenging’…. if that was their idea.
“Hey, let’s force them to craft every day, that way they login every day. "right.

B. The storyline needs to be done over and over and over again just to get the achievements and … you got it, masteries. I’m betting some know the storypaths by heart now.

C. Dailies. Farm flax, craft timegated stuff, do fractals, do normal dailies, kill a WB or two, maybe do a SW run. Every .single. day. Oh joy.

Mind you, GW2 is in comparison to most MMO’s a great game, has a helpful community (for sure ingame) , and is one of the biggest worlds in mmo’s with the addition of HoT. But changes are made so often and called “balance patches”, or really stupid idea’s are introduced (i’m sure players find some of those stupid) and are called “improvements”, that it’s no longer a ‘casual’ game but a hardcore grindfest to get the most gold possible or to get that one nearly unreachable skin.
Things you don’t need but are dying to get. Like any decent company that wants to convince us that way.

That was my 2 cents. And now i’m off to play my ‘challenging’ game, Deathclaws here i come, off to Fallout 4. Peace.

How to Condi (in)Correctly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

Take Shadow Behe as an example : you can see the number of stacks fluctuate constantly. It rizes when another stack is added, it lowers when a stack ends it’s duration.
The one with the highest intensity ends first, since that one was on top of the duration list, the one with the lowest intensity ends last since that one was at the bottom of the list. So basically, the damage fluctuates the same way.

OP is trying to find a way to calculate how to apply stacks the best way in order to find the most damage for the longest duration. Something like that, but only for condi dmg.

How to Condi (in)Correctly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

In short i could have said :

The one who has the highest intensity will be used to calculate the duration of the total number of stacks, and then the next one in line will be used to calculate the duration…etc etc.

The damage will decrease as the number of stacks are descending unless another stack of dmg is added. But it’s duration will not prioritize unless it has the highest intensity.

How to Condi (in)Correctly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

OP is mixing different things to come to an incorrect conclusion.

“For duration effects, if the same effect is present from multiple sources, the source with the greatest intensity will be used up first.

Means simply the duration is calculated according to the intensity. Not damage.

Person A starts 3 stacks of might for 10 seconds. Person B starts 8 stacks of might for 10 seconds, but 2 seconds later.
Timer runs : 3 stacks for 2 seconds, 8 stacks added for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds drops down to 3 stacks for a remaining 8 seconds. Strongest intensity used up first.
3 stacks – 2 seconds
8 added = 11 stacks for 10 seconds
drops to 3 stacks for another 8 seconds.
(was just an example)
Simple :

When that effect expires the effect from the next most powerful source will resume and use the amount of time it had remaining when the more powerful effect started (which can be its entire time if it started while the other source was on top of the stack)

The sources with the greatest intensity and number of stacks will take priority in calculating damage

This has nothing to do with duration.
As in previous example :

3 stacks of might for 2 seconds : increase overall damage by 3 stacks for 2 seconds.
8 stacks are added running 10 seconds : dmg increased to 11 stacks (8+3) for the full 10 seconds.
8 stacks end, remaining 3 stacks run for remaining 8 seconds (10s-first 2s) : dmg increased by 3 stacks again for remaining 8 seconds of the first source.

This is valid for ALL sources of conditions but only for might and vulnerability the STACK cannot go higher then 25. Rest up to 1500.

It’s not that hard to understand really. All conditions except the 2 mentioned can be stacked in intensity to 1500, no matter the duration. The duration is only important as in how stack duration is calculated based on the intensity of the condition.

If someone applies 1200 burn damage for 10 seconds, they will gain priority in duration above all others if those are below the intensity of the first source. The stack duration of the second one (with 1100 burn for example) will resume after the first duration runs out.
The burns are all added, but the duration is calculated based on the highest to lowest intensity. That’s why a WB for example can still burn for the maximum duration of which a burn can be applied, (highest possible duration of any burn skill) even after you stopped hitting it.

I agree with OP to a point that there is no way one could know certain things unless they wiki it or spend a lot of time trying things out…

Some of the mmo’s i’ve played, and one in particular (an OLD one compared to GW) had this nifty little thing :
you went to an npc (a crafter) who told you what you needed in order to craft an item. No need to look it up in some confusing way, no need to discover how to make it.
Select a piece of gear in the npc’s inventory, drop the items he requires in it, and bam…your item is made, with the stats you want.
You want to salvage an item ? Great, drop it in and he gives you exactly what he says.

One shouldn’t need a ‘manual’ like the wiki to play a game. It’s not like fps or mmo games have you look at a wiki in order to find out how to kill a certain boss, oh wait, this one does.

It’s called in-game databases and bestiaries. That’s the solution

Even a 12 year old mmo has that inside their game. Type a word and it shows you all the references to that word. Like “Ring of Talos”…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Online , released in 2004. Outdated game, but it already had the things we can dream about. And the best PKing ever in an mmo.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

Whatever is in the specific traitlines, players will always find the near ‘ideal’ setup for a given situation.

Some traits and weapons are “underwhelming” to say the least, and players don’t really find or see a real use for them. You can hardly expect ppl to switch traits and weapons for every single mob as well.

An example are the husks in SW. They are susceptible to conditions and tougher for melee, but no one will just for that mob equip a different trait or weapon or even gear or trinkets.

Players stick to what they know that works 95% of the time. Which is more then enough to face most encounters. Being limited in the number of utilities you can use at the same time doesn’t help either.

While true that opening bags like that yields more of those specific mats, i highly doubt that someone, like myself, with all his chars having the HoT specs, will buy another char slot and lvl a toon to be able to open those bags at that level.

Consider the fact that not everyone
- reads the forums
- wants to leave a toon at that level
- aims for different goals in making gold

A good idea, but it’s doubtful that most ppl don’t already know about it.

Let them have their oh so precious skin, while they lose out on 6 months of playtime, we can have all that is obtainable ingame and have some fun . They either need to start over with a new account or wait and let us take them over by a long shot.

Botting or cheating in general has been around since the start of gaming. (I remember back in the 80’s….but that’s another story.)
Generally, most companies, and even private servers with GM’s, act swiftly and ban players after careful investigation. These bans can be temporary (mostly for minor infractions) or permanent.
The fact remains that it gives players an unfair advantage, no matter how long it’s used for, and while it’s very convincing to say ‘oh, but i only used it once’, the intent was there to cheat.

If you sit behind the wheel of your car while you’re drunk, over here you will be arrested and you will lose your drivers licence. You didn’t even drive the car, but you had the intent to do it, putting other people in harms way.
They are oc completely different things, but they follow the same principle : you break the rules, you pay for it.

I find the 10K drink requirement totally rediculous, but i won’t start cheating to get it. I find the endless grind for map farming nodes tedious, but i won’t use a bot to farm it, or to get to JP’s.

So why should someone with the intent to cheat or someone who actually cheated and broke the rules get away scott free ? By farming the wintersday JP over and over, some (most) bots interrupted my gameplay. They prevented me from entering the JP on numerous occasions, they enriched themselves by cheating.
So this guy who cheated by using the bot to get to JP’s or to farm nodes, even for a few minutes or an hour, why should’nt he be banned ?

1. he cheated and lied about it.
2. she, unaware or not, made a video about it, where he actually LIED.
3. Anet investigated and banned their accounts, probably because it cannot be determined on which pc the cheating happened OR because some gold or mats were transferred between acounts, who knows.

Fact is, they got a 6 month ban.
Fact is, it won’t be overturned.
Fact is, he should have been honest from the start instead of getting caught with his pants down.
Now half the community is spitting him/them out and the other half is discussing wether or not she was in on it.

I for one, don’t care if she was in on it or not. HE shouldn’t have lied to her and he shouldn’t have used the bot in the first place.

And if she needs to put the blame somewhere, don’t put it on Anet, blame your brother for the mess.

29 map points in 60 seconds isn’t “lag”. It’s either cheating at the JP or using the bot to farm nodes in a map. Either way, the result is the same.

If you use a bot to gain an unfair advantage over anyone else in a game it’s called cheating. It deserves a ban no matter who they are.

Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.

So why are ppl even discussing this ? The offenders themselves stated they quit the game. Imo, good riddance.

If someone’s banned for something they claim did not do, then almost sure they will raise hell and be upset about it. No one i know would simply say “we’re unfairly banned and we won’t be playing the game again because of it.”

Second, the dev double checked the ban and it stands. which leads me to believe there was more going on then what the content creator(s) claimed.

Lastly, mistakes can always be made like Just a flesh wound said, but Anet or Ncsoft will look into it to make sure their decision was correct. But as it is now, this particular case will stand.

If i were banned like that i’d raise hell and not just say “oh well, i’m quitting no matter what and play another game.” Even IF i were to quit playing i’d raise hell just out of principle of being treated fairly (if unfairly banned oc).

Would i buy it again ? No. Definately not.

Would i recommend HoT ? Only if you want to prolong your gameplay as long as you enjoy it and have not found a better game to replace it.

Mind you, i still enjoy GW2, but i’m impatiently waiting for another game to come out in a few months. I won’t stop playing completely, but it will just be for something ‘in between’. It’s kinda like not watching several soap episodes, you’ll never really miss anything.

1. bearbow till 80. (faceroll with a little tank really)
2. DPS Reaper after 80
3. Mesmer (pure condi/dire) for survivability , i’ve had less deaths then any of my other chars combined. And i have one of ea class.

p.s. : my advice : choose a class you like, it’ll be the most fun and fastest to play since you’ll want to learn it. Levelling isn’t a problem, it’s versatility in the diff. aspects of the game (pve/fracs/bosses/WvW/…).
Don’t choose a toon that you’ll regret having levelled when it isn’t useful or managable in certain aspects of the game.

Succeeded once, didn’t go back. I’d rather jump out of a 20 story window whilst being poisoned and shooting myself in the head on the way down just to make sure.

But if someone likes it, good for them.

It’s not just the wintersday JP that’s being exploited. Sure, at the moment it is because it’s the most profitable, but it doesn’t end there.

If you care about it, you can look it up (google helps) and see how the darn thing works even in open world pve.

The fact is, that once the bot is allowed for ONE day to exploit the event JP, that it pays itself back, so there is no need to use a F2P account. Any regular HoT account will do since it doesn’t matter that they spend RL cash on making the account.

The total earnings of the bot farmers is way higher then anyone can anticipate. The bot is multi box capable (several instances running on 1 pc), it’s completely automated in grinding, harvesting, mining…and the list goes on.
Furthermore, any update of the game is immediately followed by an update of the bot program within hours.

How do we know this ? It says so on their easy to find website. Now tell me what kind of kid doesn’t like something that’s so easily obtainable and apparently nearly undetectable (in open world pve) AND so far has had NO response from Anet ?

By the time you report a hack like that and something is done about it, those scriptkids will have made more then enough cash to buy new HoT accounts and start over.

Personally, i don’t see how Anet can possibly fix the damage already done. I don’t think they even care considering how little they comment if at all on their own forums instead of that reddit crap.

And if i think they don’t care, then why the hell should i ?

Happy new year from Australia.

Perhaps we’ll see a public execution of the account.

No, you won’t.

And consider this for a moment :

1 HoT = 44.99 €

1 BOT = average of 750 G /24 hrs = 20€/250gold = 60 €/24 hrs.

BOT active for 2 weeks (holliday season) = 14*60 € = 840 Euro’s.

1 Botfarm = around 20 Pc’s = 20* 840 euros = 16800 Euro’s gained from 1 farm over a period of 2 weeks.

Wam bam thank you mam. And you think bots will disappear and Anet will publicly announce their bans ? Dream on i’d say.

Oh, and let’s not forget that the cost of a bot program is minimal. (It’s a monthly subscription free including updates.) If i were a conspiracy theorist i’d say Anet is running their own bots. But i’m not. Just sayin.

1. “mini’s are hidden due to player population”
2. reduction of “visual clutter” which also affects general open world pve

and you ask for mounts ? I agree with Seera above. Mounts aren’t going to ‘save the game’ (if it needs saving at all) , decent gameplay is.

There is an mmo that allows for items to be ‘engraved’ and even has crafted items with the crafters name on it.
But i wouldn’t advise playing that mmo since it costs an arm & a leg just for the materials, implementing that here would make the cost comparable to a legendary weapon if it were on par to that other mmo.

Nice idea, although adding something to any mmo always comes with a ‘price tag’….and how heavy depends on the dev’s.

guild lost interest in raids.

Your sig says it all in fact Wasabi :

Raid 1 Wing 1 cleared – waiting on the next wing

And that’s what raiding has become, players who didn’t do it and players who don’t care for it after many tries and fails, and on the other hand those that did manage to finish the first wing and are waiting for a new wing.

Very few run it for ‘fun’ or ‘rewards’. Most just want to tick it off their list to do and move on. I said it at the start, give it a few months and raiding will die a slow death for all but the most dedicated and bored ones. Kinda like how fractals used to be.

Seems like none in the guild i’m in are even talking about raids anymore, that’s how interested ppl really are. It’s great for the ones that wanted a ‘challenge’ (for however long that was the case) but for the other 97% of the player population, it’s meaningless.

Ascended gear price increase - grind on?

Euhm, no.

Exotic Berserker heavy coat : 363 def, 134 power
Ascended Berserker Heavy chest (zojja) : 381 def, 141 power.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Draconic_Coat
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zojja%27s_Breastplate

And that’s just 1 piece of ascended compared to exotic. Saying you can do open world pve in blue gear is very very outdated. Not to forget is that you get an extra slot for either a versatile AR or a defensive slot (toughness/hp/..) on ascended.

A fully equipped ascended and slotted character will do more damage and will be able to survive better then your run-of-the-mill ‘blue/green/exo’ toon. I don’t compare skills or abilities or even classes, just gear.

Basically, if you want the best equipped character, go ascended all the way. Unless you don’t want to do fractals, or raids (asc weapon at least) or don’t care about the base premisse of the game : farming for the endgame gear. (Until Leg. comes along for the die-hards)

My issue is not with prices or supply and demand, but with Anet changing the recipes, requiring even more materials to craft the same item.

Amen to that. I find it staggering they just change recipes without any kind of forewarning or even a hint of it. No, just change at will and let players sort it out for themselves.
Those that HAD the materials to make a set or close to it, now had to dish out even more cash or wait way longer to make it then before.

Where can we get ascended backpiece and AR?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sthenith.5196

Sthenith.5196

1. once inside fractals you can travel to the lab (npc robot in there just beneath stairs to the left) and buy a removal item with which you can remove any infusions you already have.

2. do NOT replace your infusions, instead extract them (see point 1) and upgrade those :

- 5 versatile can be upgraded to +7 versatile
- any random AR infusion can be used to combine or upgrade to a higher level (
5 to +6…etc)
- cost of removal item = 25 silver. Double click, drop in item (armor or trinket with infusion) and extract.

One of the easiest and fun to get an ascended backpiece = Mawdrey.
Every piece of ascended armor = +7 AR versatile
Every 2 handed asc weapon = +7 AR x2 versatile

Rings can be infused and transformed so they can have a versatile (+7 ar) and 2 (two) agony slots.

At low lvl fracs keep your regular AR rings till the infused ones drop.

Hope this helps you on your way.

Map exploration + events in the maps + dailies = lvl 80 in a bit over 1 week. With 3 weeks left they could easily get lvl to 80 and do the achievement. And they could try to get it as soon as they hit 60+. Jormag is several times/day…

Just face it, the event as it stands is just as ‘profitable’ or better for those who farm it as for those that spend all their time in SW hopping from map to map.

Those that are good at the JP will earn the most, especially if they’re not going for the shoulders but just want gold.

At roughly 300 gifts/hour, if your math is correct, they make 300x price on TP (around 8s/ea) = 2400s = 24G/hour. (not opening them)

It’s a pure farm event driven by that one pretty useless ‘skin’ which might or might not look good on your char(s). If you enjoy yourself, so much better, if not, move on because while you’re spending time there, you’re not doing anything else or playing another game.

[Wintersday Gifts] Sale Price Discussion

1. i sell my stuff at whatever the hell price i want.

2. I, ‘farm’ the different events i can do to get the gifts whenever i feel like it, so it’s MY decision what i do with them and for how much i sell them.

3. i’m not disabled at all and i tried doing the JP several times and only succeeded once.

Tried a few more but gave up on the rediculous and tedious way it’s setup. Most, if not all, JP’s you can pause to get your bearings, but this one you can’t, and failing time and time again near the end or because something disappears in front of me or because there’s so many ppl doing it all at once you can’t even SEE where you jump, well, that’s just a bummer.

I’m not against JP’s or events at all, but in my own personal opinion, this wintersday sucks big time in the entertainment department. It’s only good to make some cash on the side (although SW farm is equally if not more profitable).

Sorry ANET, but you fail big time in your events. A holliday event like this should be about fun and enjoyment for the end-of-year festivities, yet you manage to either :

1. upset a lot of ppl with your 10K drinks crap (which you then ‘correct’….)
2. frustrate those that can’t either do the JP or aren’t any good at timed things
3. allow some to ‘farm’ an event (snowball mayhem f.i.) by exploiting it in some way.

Somehow, i’m not surprised to see someone like the OP posting this here. It’s kind of inline with your current philosophy, whatever that may be. Most of us (ingame, not forums, those are the minority) stopped caring a while back like you seemed to with your rediculous ‘balance patches’ and ‘visual clutter’ obsession.

posts like these makes me sick…

They only make me pity the OP for being what he/she is. I can be reprimanded for calling someone an idiot, they won’t for calling players ‘lazy’. Go figure.

Wintersday is sadly disappointing

The JP honestly isn’t that hard. Yes, it takes patience. But finishing it is more rewarding if you have to work for it.

Some activities are fun, but an annoying JP isn’t. And the reward ? yeh, right. Let’s not waste words on that please. Even the shoulders aren’t worth that much of a pain in the b..t.

Only reason to do the event is to sell all the crap you get and to gain some exp and karma, period.

1. the activity is fine as is. I’m glad it’s a mindless spam with the pistol or rifle for once that doesn’t require a well oiled team trying to survive a boss’s Aoe’s and whatnot.

2. Why does everything need to be about “rewards” ? I had fun in there although i didn’t finish it completely, and i’m def. going back to try to get it done.reward or not.

3. Mindless fun for half an hour (or more), what’s not to like. It’s not some tactical boss battle you need to prepare for and it doesn’t have to be.

But this collection which basically should be at the same level requires 10k drinks = 500-600 g or 333 drinks per day if we assume event last 30 days

Besides the fact that it will probably cost you a lot of cash, you are also spending a lot of time doing the wintersday events and being frustrated or bickering about it.

With the end result being everyone forgetting the basic issues ingame that people were talking about before the event.

“I got a drink in my right hand, so don’t look at what i’ve got in my left hand (nothing cause we aint giving it).” But chug away and forget the rest.

Want to get through the event the easy way ? Simple :

- do the events that get your your achievements rather quick
- get your rewards and save them up till you have a bundle, then sell it all
- spend no longer then 1 hour each day in DR doing all that until you get the attainable achievements, then stop.
- Play the rest of the game and hope you gain something from the event.

p.s. : i got a nice exotic rebreather for my druid, so i’m already good. Wintersday (singular) was a success, moving on.

Players have to understand that it is, in fact, a Karma sink. Do the event, spend some, gain some, get achievement(s) where possible, end event.
If you’re lucky, you might end up with something good, if not, you wasted your time, and probably money trying to get something out of it.

Same old, same old.

My opinion :

PvP = definately not warrior.
PvE = your own preference, most stuff is faceroll anyways.
WvW = revenant or warrior, guardian only for more group support

Others might have other views. But it’s your own preference. Faceroll pve content is easy on warrior, medium on guardian (more squishy) and a walk in the park for rev’s.
