That was our first time playing together and I think that was just a moment where I was trying to pressure Zoose and our engi (being awesome) took note and pulled Zoose back to make sure we got the finish.

I think mesmer and ranger have a lot of potential. I have played a lot with Zeromis (another great mesmer on NA) and we have pulled off some crazy 2 v 2s with mesmer and ranger synergy with both power + shatter and also condi + support mesmer. So I’m really looking forward to seeing what I can do with Supcutie as well as the rest of The Dankening.

Was 6/6/2 vs the Abjured a good choice? To be honest, no. But… there isn’t anything that is good vs the Abjured. The sustain of double d/d ele and a good engi coupled with the snowball effect of Noscoc and the annoying presence of a s/d makes things rough. We cannot kill their eles because they have soo much sustain and can rotate 1 our for the other. We cannot kill Chaith because the eles rez him and then just heal up + shadow refuge. We cannot kill Toker because he can just evade spam and run. That leaves our best choice to kill Noscoc who can just eat our damage and always run. If he has to, he can plague. So we can’t really kill him either. You can see that we go toe to toe with them in fights. Often getting their guys down. However, the training potential of s/d and the sustain of the eles was not something we were prepared for (and don’t know if can be prepared for, can’t wait for that little balance update next week). So in the end, could a different ranger build be more effective? Maybe. I mean, I did my job, I pressured Nos out of most fights. However, I think we could have played better as a team but that was to be expected when we had been a team with a couple hours of practice vs a team that has 6 months.

I might be making tweaks to what I was using as I grow with my team but until such time I will continue to play what I like, the best that I can, and will constantly try to improve at it. I encourage others to do the same.

I wanna see the same fight again after the balance patch, the eles are really ridiculous. That sustain tho. Nice job doing pressure against that Necro.

One question tho Eura, There are a lot of times that you do not recall your pet, and it dies, yes there are aoes that kill them, but sometimes I just don’t see you calling them back.( When you’re retreating).

I’m looking forward to more top tiered fights with you on the lineup, #rangerpride. I do agree on the Mesmer/Ranger Synergy, I also had that same feeling last game, its not even about the burst, people tend to neglect the ranger so much and they are caught off guard by that RF when facing the mesmer.

Good Job I must say. The only downside our class has right now is what would you do against those super sustain classes? Really, I wanna see The Abjured VS The Dankening after the balance patch, Altho it affects 3 members on your team too.

PS: Can you tell Grouch to go over the builds, they often skip your ranger and proceed to spectate to highlight your teammates builds.

Hey Mia, I dont get why people still defend the gear shield, its an absurdly powerful block, I would trade other mesmer utilities for a full 3 sec block.

Imagine running Blink or Decoy + Port + Block on a full zerk mes.

There was Mimmic, but no one apparently used that so they changed it. Mesmers had other priorities and with a decent evade uptime already + invulns and stealth it wasn’t a gamechanger. Do note that it did block melee attacks and reflected projectiles despite not reflecting (huh!) this in the tooltip.

But you gotta remember mimic required absorbing a projectile first before the block/reflect triggered. So that’s the deal breaker right there. So knowing that, i ask you would you choose mimic over gear shield?

And you gotta love the devs logic, hence the word “apparently”.

I think CS and CI are counterproductive if you are managing to hit interrupts often.

Immob + Stun is a wasted MoD.

Looking at other classes blocks, a 20 second CD block isnt that special. Warrior offhand sword, ranger greatsword, mesmer offhand sword, they all have a a 15 second CD block, untraited. Traits will improve them to 12 seconds CD.
Ok, all of them block just 1 time in case of melee attacks, but therefore they offer strong counterattacks plus a second offensive mechanic, engies toolkit block doesnt. Engis also have to sacrifice an utility slot for it, while the other classes get those blocks on weapon skill.

Im fine with it.

For Mesmers, the counterattack can be dodged, can miss. and has a RANGE requirement

FYI the block takes only 1 hit for ALL attacks not only melee ones. So anyone with halg a decent brain can either:

1.) Bait the block
2.) Trigger the block and be in that block’s outside range
3.) Hit the block with a multi hit attack

and..the block is.. poof! its gone!.. it became coco crunch!

Seriously though, we CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT compare individual skills as the classes are fundamental different.

The Shield and Gear Block is the Engi’s equivalent of Endure pain, Berserker Stance, ANY form of Stability, Shared Anguish, Blur, and a hundred other forms of damage negation.

Even considering the above statement calling OP!!!!!! on a skill is not possible by just going, oh look, a skill with same function thats weaker.

Well mr Eurantien. I would gladly give up gear shield if grenades wouldn’t require ground targeting and also shrapnel grenade would be 10 rapidly launched nades with 1800 range.
Also if a 3s block on a 16s cd(traited) is that op how about the mesmer outright invuln on sword? On a much lower cooldown too!
Oh and lol at the “shield a clearly warrior weapon” or whatever the other dude said. Where exactly does it say that? What about greatsword a clearly warrior weapon? When mesmer and even ranger use it better?

IMO. This is a really strong trait already. Paired with DE, you have cd cleanse every 10 secs, 30, 45, 60 secs.

not counting if you have 3 clones, 4 if you have IP. 4 conditions. Imagine that. AOE too.

Combine this trait with sigils of energy, Illusionary Invigoration, signet of illusions, and the vigor on crit trait. + menders purity since you are on the Inspiration line.

The only main downside to ranger is the lack of decent condition removal.
The one we have as a heal doesn’t heal as well as Trolls Unguent. The condi removal on survival skill use is in a trait line that not too many rangers go into and would have to give up other, more needed, traits and a timed passive traited condi removal that requires your pet to be close (there’s a signet that does a similar thing).

You mean…
~6 conditions cleansed in AoE per 10 seconds on a 30 sec CD (skill)
~3 conditions swapped to your pet every 10 seconds (Trait)
~1 condition cleansed every 10 seconds – allowing you to get rid of ALL condis on use (60 sec, CD) (Signet)
~2 conditions cleansed on each survival ability used, which can ramp up up to 8 active condi cleanse and 2 additional from Keen Edge trait in Marksmanship tree – ending up in 10 condi cleanse on demand (Trait)
~2 condi cleanse from Bear if you really needed

… That’s not enough? I was pretty much condi immune on my former build. What exactly about Ranger condi cleanse is not fine?

Dont forget Entangle with Lyssa Runes. Converts conditions to boons, 5 of em, in a 48 sec cd.

It just feels like sloppy design to have the forage skilsl work the way they currently do.

Do your enemies even see the items on the ground? I mean yea before, but ever tested it now?

I use the porcine family, and not even once did i see my target or anyone from the other team pick it up.

Or maybe they can see it and they just can’t use it. Like FGS maybe?

All nice improvements but nothing that will actually change anything. In other words, nice little buffs to people who already use these things but nothing good enough to make people who don’t want to.

This game stopped evolving pretty much at release. Nothing seems to happen really, we’re still here, two plus years later with the same old skills and the same old mechanic.

GW1 had so many variations compared to this game. Here, we’re trying to tweak extremely limited build options to the extreme, but in the end nothing really makes any difference.
GW1 was the ultimate game when it came to trying out builds. GW2 is a pale shadow of its much more glorious past. It’s sad.

Anet, go back to your roots. Combine what made GW1 so succesful, with the improved gameplay and open world nature of this game. I guess it is to late for GW2, here’s hoping for perfection in GW3…

Is the LS dev team different from the ones making Class Changes?

If so, the LS team are more creative hands down. and more productive too.

Anet, while you’re working on Confusion for Mesmers, please don’t forget:

1) CoF Shatter – Add 1s to base duration here as well
2) Illusionary Retribution – Again, add 1s base duration
3) Confusing Combatants – GM Minor? Really? Make it 5s base duration and 2 stacks of Confusion. (Or replace it if you’re worried about Clone Death builds. It’s useless as it is now, and really is worse then all of our Adept Minors even!)
4) Blinding Befuddlement – Fix this somehow please! At the very least make it useful vs. single targets by making it apply 3 stacks, but better yet would be to remove the CD on it and simply cut it’s base duration to 2s if you’re worried about a return of the Glamor AoE Confusion junk in WvW.

For the GM minor part I agreem but you gotta remember all classes GM trait are either crap or underwhelming. Many of them if not all follow the % cliche.

if you can start the channel while they are outside of cover the hunters call channel will continue to hit and los wont break it as its not a projectile attack.

When was this changed? I’ve never seen it work when LoS is lost. If they go behind a solid object or through a wall portal in WvW the skill will keep firing off but will just throw up “Obstructed” errors until the channel ends.

Yes, it does not work when LoS is lost., i even think that when you do something immediately after you cast WH 4,, it gets canceled.

Although the warhorn and other stuff are great buffs, (a buff is a buff), but I think, there are even greater ways they can tweak the ranger.

I posted this a long time ago, but I still think with these changes, they could improve on the ranger in more creative ways.

Disclaimer To all those pet haters, please just don’t post in the thread if it does not provide anything helpful or constructive. Since Anet decided that the pet is the blood and life of the ranger class, I for one think they should fix or tweak or buff that area first.

1st Suggestion Give more control on our F skills.

F1 – 1st press, Attack Target. 2nd Press, Return.
F2 – Same Function as of now.
F3 – 2nd Pet Skill (I.e. Canine KD, Drake Tail Swipe)
F4 – 3rd Pet Skill (I.e. Crippling Leap, etc)

Pets Do AA by default. (AA = First skill on the Pet Management box)

Reasoning:

What if my I can control when my bird applies swiftness?

EX: I am chasing down a target, then i can ask my bird to apply swiftness. Not casting swiftness when entering the battle.

Same logic as An on demand blast finisher for drakes (more controlled than just swapping) An on demand KD from canines, a much needed interrupt, not RNG and sacrificing a swap.

2nd Suggestion = Pet Stats.

As you all know, Pets still don’t have Condition Damage and Healing Power Stat.

So. Let’s take this example.

Reef Drake f2 = Confusion breath, 5 Stacks (If It hits)

With 0 condition damage, how much would it tick? 100.
Again, why would you choose this over other pets, aside from being a cover condition?

At this state, it Is USELESS 100 per tick (IF you manage to get all 5 stacks, which is Unlikely.

Reasoning:

1.) Pet Diversity
2.) Now, it would OP to give 2 more stat 2 pets so:

>For condition based pets, Maybe lower the pow stat to compensate for condition damage.

3rd Suggestion = Pet Related Traits.

Ive been saying this numerous times, when i played WoW, it gave me that sense of feeling the traiting my pet to suit various situation or gameplay modes only applied to my pet, i didnt have to spend trait points I have just to make my pet “viable”
For example, Having their own pet tree would:
I can trait to have -50% AOE damage when i want to WvW in zergs, therefore my damage output will not be kitten because my pet would have higher durability.
ALL these traits that we have Should be On A Pet Tree, And Replace them with traits that would benefit the ranger Directly

>Alpha Training
>Malicious Training
>Pet’s Prowess
>Companion’s Might
>Agility Training
>Expertise Training
>Concentration Training
>Instinctual Bond

1.) Now if we had our own pet tree, We (The Ranger)Will be able to have 18 Ranger Oriented (Affects the ranger or weapon skills, or utility skills)
That would Create A LOT of Diversity for the Ranger Class and The Pet Too!

2.) We don’t have to waste any more trait points just to make our pets “okay” or viable I mean CMON why would I waste 5 points just to make my pet be able to stick close to a Target?

It is kinda pointless to buff Confusion Images and iMage like this. The core problem has always been the application (channel attack / slow projectile). Same goes for Confusion damage increase by 33% in PVE. It doesn’t solve the core problem.

But i like the rest of the changes. Finally no more desperate tabbing for a target in down state.

EXACTLY, the problem with CONFUSION, is The APPLICATION.

Pretty meh. Won’t change a thing in PvE. Small self nerf when roaming solo with BM’s might and signets. Overall nothing important.

CD reduction should make IoL and Time Warp hopefully even more viable in PvP. Insane CD reduction on TimeWarp
I LOVE the downed state skill buff.
Also good thing they gave us more confusion (duration/application), a step in the right direction IMO. True lockdown builds which would punish any skill use via confusion (+ have all the interrupts, halting strike, CI procs ect) would be great and with a few more confusion related buffs for us(put confusion on scepter AA instead of torment and increase the cast to not make it OP) and we will have those!

There is no synergy between True Lockdown builds (CS, halting strike, interrupts, CI) and confusion. Out interrupt/lockdown builds and the great synergy we have it entirely power related. That’s not to say you can’t use interrupts to good effect in a condition build (MoD is MoD, and perplexity runes are fantastic. BI is always a great trait too as far as trait choices go), but a truly powerful rupt/lockdown build is power based thanks to the synergy between weapons and traits.

I disagree. I run with a Condition CI build. I must say, its on par with a power spec if not more dangerous. Ask Chaos.

Call hawks to swarm your foe. 25 sec cd. Channeled (meaning vulnerable to interrupts, can be dodged)

To warriors warhorn 4.

Grant swiftness to yourself and allies, while curing chilled, crippled, and immobilized.

15 sec cd. (12 traited) Max targets 10. Also Converts 1 condition to a boon (traited)

I don’t think you can interrupt the skill once it’s been activated on a target by stunning etc the Ranger. You do however need to maintain a constant line of sight with the hawks and be facing the target. I’m not sure of the arc but doing a complete 180 shuts them off.

But, ya, the warrior horn is amazing. The Ranger horn is pretty decent assuming you have no warriors or guardians in your group.

I need further testing, but In my experience all channeled skills can be interrupted during the channel, even if it is close to finishing like Rapid Fire, Mesmer’s Confusing Images on Scepter.

As a mesmer main, channeled skills without stability are free interrupts to would most likely to a chain daze or lockdown burst.

Also, Our Hunter’s Call is a hit or miss skill, imagine that is 16 hits, what a waste to be interrupted.

Confusion Change Is kittened, PVE is braindead as it is, and conditions are really bad for PVE, even adding 100% to damage would not make a difference, What is need for this change again?

Nightmare Runes honestly it is a buff, pair it with CI, now you have an extra source of interrupt every 60 secs. Fear Duration does not matter it will only be used to trigger the 1.5 to 2 sec Immobilize.

The only specs that need DE are builds that use Mind Wrack often.

Or anything that relies on clone deaths.

And another underrated fact.

If someone really uses the clones to their advantage (i.e. Body blocking) the survivability increases as well. Rylock manages to hide really well behind clones making him really a challenge to beat.

The clones soak up some damage and he blasts you at the same time.

The Image change is good on paper, IF it HITS. I would rather have them fix the pathing of projectile first.

The confusing images one, I dont get it. Yes if you land all stacks it should hurt, which during the channel you are vulnerable to interrupts. Second, at 100% condi duration, this would be like 14 secs confusion on a 9.5 sec cd (traited)

Why not retain the duration and make instant 5 stacks? IMO, the duration would not matter if the reliable source application is there.

Where dya get this info pyro?

PS: They should get the forum specialist ASAP. some of the changes look good, (a buff is a buff). But i have no idea if they really know what the mesmer class needs. In order..

Thief (a smart and decent one)
Second Mesmer (non-PU)
Guardian ( a smart one, not these Medi soft spikes)
Engineer (lots of CC or maybe even a turret troll)
Elementalists – (D/D seems to be the only type these days but at least it offers some Heals and condition help)

After that we’re into much less preferred and yet still in order

Warriors – out for themselves and dont offer much in the way of help beyond meat sponge / hope i dont get spotted

Rangers – Another selfish class, maybe ok for back up DPS to my own Bursts but they aren’t going to hold any ones attention away from me

Necros – Just a wobbling damage sponge or a wobbling DPS/half glass damage sponge. They’re usually ignored until the more dangerous professions are removed (IE Mesmers) which means I often just get focused more.. not a good buddy to have.

What do you mean by selfish class?

I’m a bit behind on looking at uploading my end.

There are two things I’d like to add here, not for the sake of my pride, but so an accurate perspective can be obtained when looking at this build in these duels.

1) Player experience. Fact is Chaos is more experienced than me in three important ways.

  • I’ve got two years of Mesmer under my belt, but it’s all been in WvW. PvP is a different ball game, it just is, and essentially I’m playing on Chaos’s home terf at the moment.
  • Chaos has had a ton of hours spent playing interrupt builds vs other (he argues the best) interrupt player/build. Rupt Mesmers are so rare, I’m lucky to have encountered a handful in my two years. So I’ve been at a huge experience disadvantage here. This includes trying to find ways to adapt my build to the unique challenges posed by this particular matchup. In every single fight with Chaos yesterday I was approaching asking myself “What am I going to try this time?” Followed closely by “Well that didn’t work.”
  • Finally build. Chaos has a number of tools at his disposal that extend the difficulty of my overcoming him than he me. namely IP and Staff 2. Think of it as though we’re in a race and the wall I have to climb is twenty feet higher, or we’re jumping hurdles and there’s six more for me to jump than Chaos. That’s what it feels like. If course anything goes in this race so if I can find a way to kick him on the way up and he falls and dies, then go me.

Duels are different than team conquest which is the other point. This build isnt designed for duels. If I wanted to win duels I’d of brought Icy. Ideally I’d be engaging Chaos in Conquest. I’d rotate away from 1v1’s with him, wait till he were engaged and unaware, then unload on him when his back were turned. But I digress.

The last thing I want to address is the question of squishiness. 15000hp, 18000hp, it doesnt matter nor would have made much difference in these fights. In any ranked match the only things I’m really fearing are thieves and other mesmers (shatter) catching me by surprise. The equation of these fights is really simple. Whoever gets the upper hand on the other is going to win. 3000hp won’t save me if that’s the case. It may extend the fight an extra hit, otherwise If I’m caught I’m down. In that regard an all in offense is my best defense and I can play that to my favor since I know my enemy, seeing a mesmer, is already underestimating me.

You forgot the most important thing, interrupt builds directly counter your build. Since you are phantasm type, every summon you make is a free interrupt. The match couldve ended sooner

But amidst all this you still did great, and no DE.

For chaos, he burns his rupts too soon, wasting an mod and sword 4 at the same time. You need to play more chaos.

You guys are trying to buff traps way too much. An extra condition per trap and perhaps merging the traits would be good enough. Adding stun breaks, boon strips or immobilize on them would make them insanely overpowered. Imagine that in WvW on someone with full guard and corruption stacks and food.. No thanks.

I’d actually say that one additional condition per Trap would be worse than 1s Stability when deploying them via trait. Trappers already dish out enough conditions and I do not see the need to buff their overall performance in that department. However, there most certainly is a need to revisit the traits. I also feel that the increased duration should be baseline to make untraited Traps slightly more attractive. The traits could instead grant a different defensive/survivability related benefit to open up some build diversity.

I’m not a big fan of the boon stripping/corruption on Traps, though. That’s something Necromancers and Mesmers should be good at, not Rangers. Boon stripping Traps would easily become the most potent boon removal ingame which alienates those other two classes. I understand the desire to bring group support when playing a Trapper but maybe those utilities aren’t just the right choice for that job.

Im sorry but i disagree with your statement that traps dish out a lot of condis already.

This is false. Traps by themselves give only 3 unique conditions, (most classes cleanse them by twos, and remember they can just get out of the trap)

That being said, those 3 conditions are by slotting 3 traps, Chill, Burns, Poison or Bleeds. We only gain an additional bleed for the Sharpened E. Trait.

So that running 3 traps, no stun break, no on demand cleanse. I would like to face that on my mesmer.

Also Yes, mesmers are kings of boon removal, I know this for a fact since I main mesmer. Okay so remove boon removal from traps, so you just basically admitted that rangers are of no use in high lvl tpvp. right?

So what good are traps anyway? Condis? My Torment Shatter mesmer can load better than that.

I’m listing additional effects to traps so we could also get into lineups. If we buff/tweak traps, then as a player outside looking in, I might just bring a ranger instead of a MtD mes.

Imagine, traps, aoe, removes boons, i can combo more with my pet, aoe immob. entangle, oh guess what? Traps are also fields, combo more. + they will do another unique condi. above all i can choose to use SB and flank from range.

But do you mean that ranger as a class is braindead or just how most people play it?

The pew pew baddies in yolo pvp, makes the class look bad. No weapon swaps no cleanses, just snipe with LB, rinse and repeat.

Anyway, I haven’t fought any good LB zerk ranger for a looooong time in pvp, or good rangers for that matter. My last good one was Sevans. and shadow.
