How Mesmers Feel About Rangers

in Ranger

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

Interesting to read, doesn’t look like Mesmers have a lot of nice things to say about us, lol.

One thing I find particularly intriguing is how many said they just use LoS to counter LB Rangers. I find it interesting because I actually can’t remember the last time someone tried to do that to me (outside of litterally hiding behind a wall trying to run away because they know they have already lost). I really don’t see people LoS as part of their strategy.

Maybe it’s because forum go’ers are generally better players than average.. or maybe it’s because people like to post what they think they play like in their imagination, even if it’s not what they actually do in the moment. I don’t know.. but my experience with Mesmers (and players in general) is that noone actually uses LoS in WvW.

LOL. I agree with Cufu. Never once did I see anyone LOS me. And i beg to differ, i think NON-forum goers are often better than forum goers. no offense #realtalk. This is on the mesmer forums btw.

[Rework]HoT Confusion for Mesmers

in Mesmer

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

Although I would like to have it reworked, but I think my latter suggestion is feasible.

The one with the Confusion on crit or hit

So what do you and the other guys think?

Confusion on crit is not gonna make us happy: 3 steps to understand why:

  1. The problem with this trait is that confusion is a quite powerful condition and that Anet would never give us a confusion access to it in adept tier. That means we have it in master tier.
  2. You’re suggesting that we get it on crit. On crit means it’s definetly a trait in the dueling line.
  3. Master tier dueling line…. there was a trait that was needed for almost every mesmer build in pvp/wvw… how was is called? Ah right deceptive evasion… -.-’

Confusion on HIT would be a different story. It could actually get into the game as a master trait in our Illusions or Chaos line.
I’d really like that.

My favorite suggestion is still the idea to give us a trait to scale confusion with power!

I would agree with you if this is pre nerf. But post nerf, confusion is not the same as it is anymore, and pair it up with our unreliable application.

Thats why I say confusion on hit or crit is a better way in solving our Confusion application incompetence.

It’s simple, only a little work needed by the devs, yet it is very effective.

Revenant has Torment on crit, Engineers have Burning on crit, Guardians Chill… Confusion for mesmer on crit sounds totally legit and would be a truly welcome change.

Yeap i think this is the easiest way to work it out, no reworks needed, and will only affect the mesmer.

At the same time, this brings us on par with other classes with confusion or maybe even better.

this could be.

While on hit or on crit is great on many classes, I got to say, Mesmers dont spend a lot of time hitting their targets themselves when compared to other classes. I’m feeling a little underwhelmed

But but but,, every little bit helps, at this rate, Confusion on crit or hit would still out damage Confusing Enchantments, Blinding Befuddlement, by a lot.

An expansion (especially one that’s adding new mechanics (specs/new “tech”), conditions, new class, so forth) is a good excuse to revamp/put in work a bit more work into base classes…

So what do you think? I for one think that the revamps wont happen. I mean it will slightly happen because of the new condis and boons but the actual trait by trait revamping wont happen.

By “Fail” you mean have a 2-3 year head start in build-crafting?

Look, the guy designing the Revenant is the lead for Warriors, so his reputation for protecting his babies is earned, but there’s still a whole team devoted to level playing field. It won’t be too grossly out of whack by launch.

Okay, if you say that, what are your ideas when it comes to new stuff for base classes?
Masteries are exempted and the new boons and conditions because all classes are getting them.

Let me guess, that’s the Ranger guild?! It reminds me of Talim from Soul Calibur exclaiming “WIND!” during battles!

Anyway, I’m totally down with some type of coordination. One of the biggest ways to coordinate is simply discussing how our classes interact with one another. I’ll be honest, but I don’t really frequent the other forums often. That being said, I think our forum is a wealth of knowledge for Mesmer users as well as others. One way to bridge the gap between our guilds is simply posting in their forums more often.

This thread is a great read for ALL classes: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/The-How-Do-Mesmer-See-The-Others-Interview/first#post4824576

The one with the Confusion on crit or hit

So what do you and the other guys think?

Feasible… sure! It’s definitely one solid way to encourage Confusion to be a more central part of the mesmer’s toolkit.

I’d much prefer a slight re-work, however. More stacks of conditions is great when there’s no risk of hitting the 25-stack cap. For dungeons and world bosses, it’s pretty common for stacks to get capped out and players to see their builds crippled for no reason.

IMO, we should have that trait in the first place to keep it in trend with all professions.
Second, this option would be more feasible since doing a rework for it will surely take time and more resources so yeah, I wouldnt count on that.
Third, This change only requires to change the mesmer traits, since confusion stays the same, it does not have to get reworked for other classes.

I really like the idea of changing the mechanic of confusion up a bit. I agree that it’s challenging to think of a good replacement mechanic that isn’t too complex.

The goal of confusion seems to be to punish players for acting, the same way Torment does for discouraging movement.

Torment does a few things a bit better. First, it is guaranteed damage, even if that damage is low. Stationary enemies still take damage! Second, other conditions complement it by forcing players to move- Fear and Taunt both force movement and cause damage.

I’d like to see some of those mechanics pushed in to Confusion as well. Giving it a passive but lowered “ticking” damage would be great. I think Taunt will go a long way in forcing players to use quick auto-attacks and receive full Confusion damage, but I’d love an additional backup as well. Maybe a blast of damage when it expires, or an AoE effect on skill activation?

Although I would like to have it reworked, but I think my latter suggestion is feasible.

With all these replies, I think the best solution to have is to increase reliability of application.

We can get this by having an on crit or on hit confusion trait

33%/50% chance to apply confusion on a critical/hit

You choose, Adept/Master/GM Major or Minor.

I believe with this, we can still confusion the staple condition again.

Thoughts? All classes have this mechanic.

How bout confusion makes them attack nearby friendlies for 3 attacks. Every attack they do also damages them, same coeffecient for burning.

No nearby allies, dazes them instead.

I actually LOVE this idea, but this would make confusion a status effect anyway. Similar to taunt. I think it would have to be just auto attacks though.

But honestly, like I said earlier, it would be easier to simply buff all the base duration/stacks on our confusion skills.

It should be and not or. Only buffing the duration wouldn’t remedy the fact that we have supbar application. 1 stack is still 1 stack and the question now is how will it hit? I.e. Confusing enchantments, what if they don’t enter your nullfield? Master trait wasted.

And if they do enter, would 1 stack justify this master trait even if 1 stack lasted 7 secs?

StickerHappy.8052

So the impending arrival of HoT will surely bring more stuff to the table especially the new stuffs for the specializations As excited as I am for those changes, I am still hoping for our current traits and skills get some kind of improvement from outright bad to just even good

A lot of our traits still revolve around our staple condition which is Confusion, but with the confusion nerf, some of these traits are outright krap and not to mention our unreliable ways to deal confusion

Here are some examples:

1.) Confusing Enchantments

  • Glamour skills cause confusion to foes who enter or exit their areas.

Confusion: 4 s (130 damage on skill use)

  1. A very bad trait, 2 stacks at max against decent foes. Also Master Major Trait.
  2. I would suggest bumping this to 3 stacks upon entry/exit, makes it worth to be a Master Trait.
  3. This trait also requires Glamour Mastery and Slotting a Glamour Utility skill, Therefore sacrificing a slot for stun breakers, or anything else. So I think 3 stacks is justifiable.

2.) Confusing Images

  • Channel a beam of energy that damages and confuses your foe.

Damage Damage (5x): 840 (2.500)?
Confusion: 7 s (650 damage on skill use)
Number of Targets: 5
Range: 900

  1. Although Confusion duration is buffed, this skill is really bad, channeling it makes it a Free Interrupt
  2. When your target moves to your side, this skill will ultimately do nothing.
  3. I would suggest to make it just an instant 5 stack confusion, and raise CD.
  4. The scepter weapon has too many “Wind Up” skills, so making one instant would be beneficial.

3.) Confusing Combatants

  • Your illusions cause confusion to foes around them when they are killed.

Confusion: 3 s (130 damage on skill use)
Number of Targets: 3
Radius: 240

  1. Another sup bar trait, 25 pts deep and all we get is 1 stack of confusion and still situational
  2. Make it 5 stacks of Confusion per interrupt 10 sec ICD or just make it on par with the “On Death” Traits = Major Adept, only needs 10 pts.

4.) Blinding Befuddlement

  • Cause confusion when you blind a foe.

Confusion: 4 s (130 damage on skill use) ICD 5 seconds.

  1. A useless trait with the ICD, you can only proc 1 stack at max every 5 seconds. Master Trait, Costs 20 pts.
  2. Make it 3 stacks of confusion/Blind. 10 Secs ICD OR
  3. Remove ICD, 1 stack of confusion per blind

5.) Phantasmal Mage

  • Self explanatory
  1. Improve Projectile speed.

If anyone thinks these suggestions are OP, Please Feel free to look at how *reliably other classes can inflict Confusion

They have one of the best and shortest CD AOE burning skill in the game (4 secs burning without any stat modifier on a 3 sec cool down, 480 radius + hit 5 targets, insanely OP burn). They also got aoe torment too.

Also stability on dodge on a minor trait is insanely OP too.
Basically you have a secure heal or crucial skill usage after a dodge, which is a huge deal in pvp environment. With sigil of energy and trait, basically you have the shortest CD stability in the game that are very reliable.

Pets Question #Realtalk PVP

in Ranger

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

No you’re right, there is very little reason to run a pet that isn’t giving you CC.

Some people prefer drakes, and those people are wrong. Put a drake ranger +…. let’s say s/d thief against a dog/wolf ranger + s/d thief and we all know who wins. Drake survivability is a stupid thought when you can simply recall or swap pets. Ain’t nobody targeting your pet in PvP except that bunny in hot join.

I have many thousands of PvP games and the number of times my pets has died is like .001% of them.

Birds and cats are like “sort of” because the 1v1 damage of them is definitely annoying/intimidating. But you know what else is annoying, is a human player using skills intelligently and CCing for his team. So a cat ranger + s/d thief vs canine ranger + s/d thief, I go with the canines.

If you use a devourer, you’re just flat out wrong.

Exactly, the CCs are too valuable for me to replace, I also agree that drakes suck, Yes, I would use other pets in HJ but ranked arena? I dont think so.

Again Drakes do work in niche builds, useful for blasting fields too, but the KDs and CCs are real game changers. Their f2 is horrid too, it requires variables for it to be even on par with the other f2s which you just activate no requirements needed.

I wish Anet would entice me to pick other pets too.

Taunt + PU?

in Mesmer

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

To me taunt will be one condition that condition mesmer is missing these whole time (second to slow though hehe). Unlike condition builds from other classes, our “unique” conditions torment and confusion are all about punishing bad play from opponent players. Meaning a huge part of our condition damage comes from opponents’ skill as well. Over time they get phased out as player base learn and adapt. But taunt can address this issue by making torment and confusion a lot more aggressive than before.

Too bad other classes can put our trademark condition more reliable than us.

Pets Question #Realtalk PVP

in Ranger

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

Hey there ranger people, I still can’t help to wonder, is our pet choices in pvp(or even wvw) really really limited?

I mean yeah, we have a lot of pets to choose from but, would you even choose those options over the proven and common choices of:

Canines (esp dog and wolf)
Birds
Drakes (the River and Marsh)
Spiders

IMHO, I can’t seem to ever replace my dog and wolf, (I run them together) The CCs they give are so helpful when soloing or in teamfights, the KDs and soft CCs (fear and immob) is too great for me to even have a thought of replacing these two.

Birds, Yeap DPS great, spammable f2, (esp the blind) for secured stomps is really valuable, I would still choose my canines over them because of the swiftness they use, most of the time, those moments they use them are really not worthwhile.

Drakes, I think the main reason people use them is for the blast finisher and Cleave, Again, the other drakes f2 is crap, unless you wanna waste an immob for a crappy 5 stack confusion with 0 condition damage. The other two drakes, river and marsh, have a better f2 but again, the radius is too small, making it really to avoid unless CCed.

Spiders, this would be a close matchup against the canines, Long ranged, Durable, Soft CCs and etc. Altho does not do the same dps as other pets.

So my point is, playing in pvp, assuming equal skill against both teams, would you ever use bear, devourers, cats, moas, etc over the other pet families?

I mean for me, they should rework most of our pets skills and pet mechanics for the other pets to be even useful. Its such a shame that most of the choices you will get will be pigeonholed into certain viable pets.

And please, don’t even mention general pve, its so braindead as it is I think you can use any pet you want without a really really large drawback.

What do you guys think?

Pets in WvW camps

in Ranger

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

I put together a quick video of what it’s like to use drakes taking a camp. I try to point out a couple of the things I’ve learned so far.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F1StrrseE4&feature=youtu.be

The build I’m using is a variant of the one you linked. My build looks like this:

I know people use the canine pets really effectively, but I never really got the hang of using them well. For sure, when I take a camp, I don’t want them to run away. And it’s usually no problem to get them all to stay in the same area.

Against other players, the drakes seem to do fine for me. They are easy to manage. And it seems like with the Agility Training trait, they are able to keep up with most players.

Have fun!

Nice camp cap, good idea though with the drake +trapper runes , you can always throw a trap away from the target , stealth swap pet to trigger KD on the drake Hug the drake so you can partly lure the target towards your stealthed location and KD them into the traps (if you get the angle of attack correct) or even plant 3 in a circle so ether way if the drake Kd’s into one or the other of the traps , its a good on point defence since Trapper rangers lack Stun breaks , i’d say its better than wolf because of the Aoe KD people cant circle you too easly.

Drake has a KD?

lol typo kb though i would of thought some of you would of noticed..

don’t forget you don’t need a KD to interrupt KB is enough to stop attacks, KDs should be used for control and for a trapper that is somthing you don;t want too much of , since it will lead to the target missing said pre-planted traps.

Wait it has a kb? Does the tail swipe has a kb?

Quick question, wasnt able to read all comments here but maybe was already answered.

If Dagger Storm (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dagger_Storm) is used and you counter with Whirling Defense, what would the outcome be?

Iirc dagger storm cant be reflected, feedback on mesmer doesnt.

Napaln Cat is still viable.

You can find more info and some videos in the sticky

Napalm cat, the condition build….. Reading comprehension! :p

Anyway, Yes/No/Maybe. Osicat did put out a power build that used PU, GS sword/torch I think, ran decoy, veil, mass invis. PU builds are pretty straight forward. Take PU, either power or condi, your selection of other traits including DE, and you’re away.

Yes. It was called HiddenCat.

Yeah, I definitely think that in a celestial build, nightmare would be the superior rune choice. So you think cele would be the build you’d most likely keep in your set of builds? I have been on a small hiatus traveling recently.

I’m working on my second big theory crafting project. I’ll be posting the build soon, but I’m so happy that you’ve helped the community to explore this build with even more depth. Thank you so much!!

Remember to PM me when you need to test!

Still waiting for them to fix spirits. I mean, let’s examine what a spirit even is:
spir·it
?spirit/Submit
noun
1.
the nonphysical part of a person that is the seat of emotions and character; the soul.

How are they even able to take damage? IF NOTHING ELSE, keep them as they are, just remove health bar and intangible. Keeps procs the same.

The gm trait would be useless or less useful if this was the case. Can you suggest something on the trait too?

For drakes yes, otherwise no.

The problem with drakes is not the speed of casting rather the problem i see is the Cone AoE type skill, a little of movement of your target can ultimately cancel the whole skill, wasting the f2.
