Mesmer Poll: Scepter Auto-Attack Torment

in Mesmer

So I ended up doing the calculations and the Scepter AA is out classed most of the time by the Staff’s auto.

Assuming that you have 3 of either clone using the scepter or staff, the staff’s damage output, although less consistent then the scepter does more damage on average. Scepter being 996 while the foe is moving with the trait Malicious sorcery. The Staff averaged 1381. Now this is taking into consideration only the duration of the conditions applied for 1 single attack from each of the clones. The staff does have a 26%(rounded up) chance to be lower then the scepter AA.

My calculations do not account for all factors but I would hope it at least gives you an idea.

We can throw a couple more factors in too. Hard to slap numbers to them, but it can show which way the results skew.

Scepter clones use a slow-moving, non-homing bolt. This means that they’re very prone to missing if used on a moving target. Winds of Chaos from staff clones home, giving them a very high success rate for actually landing the attacks.

Torment only ticks at maximum strength on a moving target. Targets won’t be moving continually, and so that will lower the total damage by some amount.

Lastly, malicious sorcery will be taken incredibly rarely, simply due to trait constraints, so that lowers the numbers even more.

I know its a no from you pyro, but any suggestion to make it a better condition weapon? I hate # 3 honestly and the AA so any change would be a yes for me. Heck even vuln or weakness is good too.

Even just increasing the Speed is good too. For#3, i dont like the fact that its channeled, maybe change it to be something like the wrench to give instant stacks og confusion.

PS: I said condition weapon just for the sake of the patch, because Anet wants it to be one.

Well, here’s my suggestion, variations of which I’ve offered multiple times:

  1. Scepter clones now behave as melee. This causes them to cluster onto their target, making scepter uniquely suited for clone-death builds, as it would be the only condition damage mainhand that has clones attempting to stay close.
  2. Scepter autoattack is now completely reworked
    1. First attack is a slow projectile, basically the same as we have now. If this lands, it activates the next chain.
    2. Second attack is a hit-scan attack that summons a clone on the target
    3. Third attack is the interesting one. This is a hit-scan attack that checks within X radius of the target for illusions, then applies a 2s cripple for each illusion in that radius

Basically, these changes make the scepter clones useful without adding damaging condition spam to the game. Additionally, it adds a highly conditional, but potentially very strong cripple attack to the autoattack. The key here is that with skilled play, i.e. clustering clones on the target properly, you can effectively land that cripple boosted with 3 illusions, and that land combos nicely into landing it again. However, the target can watch the animations and either dodge away from the clones or otherwise avoid them to counter that hit of cripple, thereby having skilled counterplay available.

But nobody listens to me, so w/e.

Wow, i never thought of it this way, Just my 2 cents, since the clones would go melee, i think its better to boost their walking speed by 10% to ensure that they do stick (just for the scepter clones)

Also, what is a hit scan? ;p

What’s with all the “Passive play” arguments? My celestial axe warrior does about 1-3 autoattacks in PvP, and that can’t be cleansed. Is that “passive play”? A thief stealing from my necro gets 3s of fear and about 1.5k damage without me having to do anything, is that “passive play”? How about my engi throwing chill grenades and applying chill, bleed, vulnerability and burning with 1 skill?

So mesmer GS doing about 1.5k damage from 1200 range instantly with no reflection is fine, but 2secs of torment is not?

Seriously. very good points. Just a heads up, when people say passive play on a mesmer they are mostly referring to PU and you know, the AI.

But really, are the conditions applied by CI more at benefit by condition damage or condition duration? And if this is the case, are you really running CI without an invaluable trait like Shattered Concentration?

Then ask yourself, are you really able to lock down effectively and often enough without the massive boon removal supplied by said trait?

Because honestly I don’t think the small amount of toughness converted to condition damage by Chaotic Transference is worth gimping yourself and running a condition based CI build with incredibly limited ways to handle stability (hybrid rather, and I used to run one myself for a while, albeit it was celestial).

Regardless this isn’t even on topic. It’s still a solid no from myself.

Everytime i read posts like this, i wonder how people conclude about stuff without testing it.

I just recently used this build but I am in two minds about Mental Torment (been using shatter builds) vs Halting Strike. The damage in halting strike is low compared to mental torment or am i wrong?

Halting strike is easily pulling off 1k+ (critical or not) hits (have hit up to 3k on soft berserker specs). Halting strike damage also acts as more of an incentive (to me at least) to time interrupts and chain them together.

Also more likely to land interrupts in regards to how often you can interrupt vs the recharge of Mind Wrack (seeing as you have to many sources when it comes to interrupting skills).

I’d like to know the real answer to this too though if someone else can input, I’ve never invested much thought into mental torment myself, I’ve always taken halting strike even in shatter builds.

Ah, think of Halting Strike this way, although low dmg scaling, you have one more source of damage. Mental torment boosts a source that you already have.
Based from numerous testing, Halting strike scales really funky so you would often have like 1.2k-2.5k range damage from it or sometimes higher but it does not give you like a definite number. For mental torment, it is a sure 20% boost.

A solid no.

A-net needs to push the Mesmer towards more high-risk-high-reward specs such as interruption and boon removal focused roles as a start. (I would like a trait that rewards us for the removal of boons, just a side thought here).

Promote active gameplay rather than passive.

lol i use a CI condition lockdown build, the thing is people are just to easy to judge when they see conditions, it means PU for them, passive play, and all that kitten.

I never once mentioned Prismatic Understanding, but read what you will I suppose?

ah, but i dont see stability as nusiance, I don’t interrupt them, i kill them with conditions, no stability, i overload them with conditions and CI proc them. I know some people would still have doubts with a condition CI based build, but it really works really well. to be honest, i never had problems with foes with a lot of boons. Ah, but I don’t wanna sound too boastful, but yeah condition CI does work.

PS: I didn’t say it was you who said PU. I just used the term “people” from the posts I read. I am just generalizing that a lot of posts in Prof balance and other scepter related buffs mention passive play and PU. No offense bro.

A lot of people are forgetting or keep mentioning is Scepter buff does NOT JUST EQUATE TO PU.

My condition lockdown CI build will heavily benefit from the buff, so are you telling me that a build that requires a higher skill cap should also be exempted because of the whining?

I am just saying this because my build does not play the “passive play” mentality It’s offence and defence relies on the interrupts which in turn ( also true for interrupt builds) require skillful timing. Rylock could surely vouch on me about this.

Yes, torment is a strong condition but how people make of it the entirety of the scepter buff is what making me furious, I always read the lines passive play, condition spam, and pu. please for love of mesmers, do not generalize builds into justifying what should happen or not just because you haven’t fought a not passive played condition build.

A lot of things will change, the patch is not here yet, I would just wait for to come out and just start off from there.

They all said that bloodstone dusts can be found by opening champ bags from pvp reward tracks.

I have 1k+ pvp hours on my mesmer, and never did I get, not even one piece of bloodstone dusts from the bags.

Is this a bug or?

The Emp Fragments and the D. Ore I do get them from the final reward tracks.

Perplexity rune questions

StickerHappy.8052

If you interrupt two targets with one skill, only one of them will receive the confusion.

The base duration (as I recall) is 10 seconds. The runes give 30%, you can trait for 33%, and runes provide 40%. These sum to ~100% duration boost, bringing the interrupt confusion duration to 10s.

The base duration is actually 8 seconds, just checked in game. However, with the 30% rune increase it is 10 seconds. If you add the trait and food, which would be 100% duration, it would be 16 seconds. Got your back pyro

I think the duration on Perplexity is bugged. :/

Used to be for a long time. They fixed it in the April feature patch.

In order to beat me, you cant mess up basically. A lot of people try to go all in when I appear low and that’s why I can easily turn things around. Also, if I interrupt you, im usually going to attempt to burst you or interrupt you again. You are immboed, but you still can use skills like blurred frenzy, blink and distortion to stall the immbo time. Also when I am using my regular build, I am slightly weak to condis and you can abuse that. If im on the other hand using the 6/6/0/2 build, I am weak to interrupts unless I use a cd to charge my mantras. That’s all I can think of for now.

Devs remember illusionary elasticity fix?

You’re talking nonsense if you think a warrior can reach never mind keep up 25 stacks of bleed in PvP, however giving staff clones a double hit which can proc Burning and have a 2nd chance at critting for Bleed will be OP.

I don’t do PvP, only PvE.

Then you need to think of PvP when balancing.

Ok, lets think PvP.

I’m thinking of a fire field that covers an entire point, pulses every couple of seconds applying burning, and has a 7 second cooldown.

I’m thinking of a fast autoattack that cleaves and applies 8 second base duration bleeds.

I’m thinking of a kit that can be used point blank and applies long duration bleeds, burns, chill, and poison.

I’m thinking that bouncing staff clones probably aren’t going to match up to the insane condition application sets that a lot of classes have.

Warriors are OP, you don’t fix that with buffing Mesmers.. You fix that by nerfing Warriors. Please don’t confuse my attempts to keep Mesmers from being OP with me saying the game is perfectly balanced – you don’t help balance by adding more OP nonsense.

But yes you do, instead of nerfing classes, just buff them to be in par with warriors! :p

I just have to disagree entirely. The only difference between WvW and PvP is food really. Gearing up in this game is simply not complex. It’s very simple, and people that are unable to do it deserve to be steamrolled. I also disagree with the majority of the population being unable to figure it out. People aren’t actually morons on average, so the vast majority of people are able to create effective stat combinations for their builds.

As I said, it’s not a spreadsheet war or a numbers game, it’s simply a very basic intelligence test.

[Buff Idea] Mantra of Distraction

in Mesmer

Posted by: StickerHappy.8052

StickerHappy.8052

I’m of the opinion MoD is strong as-is with the 5s internal CD. As it is, mesmer has full capabilities through a few different build setups to chain daze/stun/root opponents. MoD is a big part of that. An instant cast daze is incredibly strong. Any stronger and it’d be too powerful.

Just make 3 charges by default for mantras, it would be a good buff then change Harmonious mantras to diff effect maybe reduce chanelling time by 1 sec.

I would agree to buff harmonious mantras by reducing the channel time along with providing the current 3 charges. I think 3 charges by default would be a bit too strong. My mantra ideas:

  • Empowering Mantras: Increase to 5% damage for each readied mantra.
    More of a PvE change, but would help build diversity in that 1) only take a couple but still gain a nice 10% damage boost or 2) you can go full ham mantras for maximum damage.
  • Harmonious Mantras: Decrease channeling time by one second. Gain fury for 5s after a successful mantra channel.
    This would be a great buff for mantra builds while providing mesmer with fury, something they do not have access to unless wielding staff or taking runes that provide it.
  • Mantra Mastery: Reduced recharge on mantras. Mantras can be activated three times before needing channeled again.
    This would need moved back to the master tree. The recent move to adept to provide increased build diversity didn’t work because mantras inherently have short recharges, making the trait not worth taking. Adding the three charges along with the reduces recharge makes this trait a viable competitor to DE.
  • Protected Mantras: Gain toughness and stability while channeling mantras.
    This is currently a master trait with only the toughness given (ridiculous considering what is competing for this trait). Add stability, maybe decrease the toughness a bit and move it back to Adept.
  • Restorative Mantras: Leave as-is.

Make Mantra of Pain AoE by default. If this is too OP, reduce the damage a tad to balance out.

Further on MoD, I’ve stated this before but Imbued Diversion needs a buff to 1) Reduce recharge of Diversion by 20% and 2) Make MoD AoE.

Now all of our mantras are AoE capable by some means or another, greatly increasing build diversity and viability in all areas of the game.

I think considering that a small fraction of mesmers actually consider using mantras at all, and considering the sorry state of things for the class overall right now, making the 3 charges baseline would not be OP. Harmonious mantras could then increase charges to 4, or reduce initial charge time by 1 sec like you say.

I run with harmonious mantras right now, and it is not in any way OP, in fact I’m probably gimping myself taking it, but I love MoD and the extra charge is cool. Having it baseline would just mean more mesmer’s might actually consider using it. Even then many will not because they hate the charge up time, and so would still need to take a GM to make it worthwhile to them, or they just can’t give up anything on their utility bar.

4 charges is OP heck 3 charges for MoD is really good, just dont burn out all your charges for obvious skills like AA, 4 charges MoD with CI would be so strong, plus 1 interrupts for each weapon set, SoD, f3, fear rune, thats 9 interrupts in total for a single rotation if you add in chaos storm and get lucky on the dazes + f3 with full clone w/ proper clone positioning you would almost get 15 interrupts!

For me:

By default, reduce channel time of mantras, this would make mantras viable not only Interrupt centered builds. this would still be balanced because you still need to charge them anyway on top of the CD.

Make 3 charges by default.

Make New effect for Harmonious Mantras = Nice name but heck adds 1 charge.
Protected Mantras = Add stability with toughness or Stability + Protection

@skcamow

The Fury Idea would be good for power builds, but how bout condition builds? Unless that build is not running Dueling II

dear fellow mesmer player,
i append herewith my feedback.

Wastrel’s Punishment
“Increased damage to foes who are not using a skill.”
Damage Increase: 15%

^ maybe a simple numbers adjustment may be a good start? its hard to find people who are not using skills though.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Confusing Combatants
“Your illusions cause confusion to foes around them when they are killed.”
Confusion: 5 s (130 damage on skill use)
Number of Targets: 3
Radius: 240
^ 3 seconds is too short, i would simply increase the duration.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Protected Mantras”
“Gain toughness while channeling mantras.”
Attribute Adjust: 1000

^ u need to reword the name if you want it to lower activation time as well? i’ll just increase the toughness gained.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blinding Befuddlement
“Cause confusion when you blind a foe.”
5 Confusion: 10 s (130 damage on skill use)
^ for a master major trait this is too weak. i would increase stacks and duration.
^ Dazzling Glamours itself is very weak and needs buff as well.
^ i can’t think of anyone would who use these 2 traits!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Confusing Enchantments
“Glamour skills apply confusion to foes within their areas.”
Confusion: 10 s (130 damage on skill use)

Notes
Glamour skills pulse per second and apply 1 stack of confusion per pulse per second.

^ duration too short. i would increase the duration. per pulse apply confusion too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IMO. Confusing combatants should be 2 stacks for a GM minor trait tops. Hey deimos just give your Distracting Strikes trait! :p
For your Blinding Beffudlement comment, It has no ICD before, it was a strong master trait.
I dont know if this is a bug or not.
The chaos of lyssa infused, The glow covers the freaking face?
Is it intended or what?
So aesthetically, the normal version is better?
Just make 3 charges by default for mantras, it would be a good buff then change Harmonious mantras to diff effect maybe reduce chanelling time by 1 sec.
