1. WvW seasons with good seasonal rewards (i.e. only available in WvW for that season)
2. Big reduction of PvE style events (especially when events tank our FPS)
3. Map population balance
4. Remove guild hall buffs etc.
5. Class and fighting style balancing, ranged conditions are the in thing now and it isn’t fun for melee fighters
This is good information, I’m not happy with the content and the excuses for why things are broken but at least there letting us know whats going on.
The issue with over scope is a fundamental mistake beginners make in project planning and I cannot believe a company of Anets caliber fell into this trap. I hope Stephen is the right person to fix it, time will tell…
Hey OP, why don’t you and your guildies spend a few late nights in a row defending? If night caper’s only want to PvD for the PPT then they won’t want to GvG right?
No, it isn’t a good idea, if the rewards would be based on how much territory your server owned. This will increase the imbalance of servers even more. Server-stacking on one side, zombie servers on the other side. Remember, the common player is a lazy player, he wants his loot on the easiest way and as fast as possible.
I agree that players want the easiest loot but I don’t think your prediction on an area controlled system would further imbalance the game. If my server owned less land and I want better rewards then I have a good incentive to capture more don’t I?
I have complain about this issue plenty of times. If the rewards in WvW were better, more players will spend time playing that game mode. ANet needs to make it much easier to make gold from playing WvW. I suggest rewarding the players base on how much territory their server holds. A reward chest should be awarded at 10 minute increments. This way it will encourage each sides to capture and hold more territory. Of course the biggest issue facing WvW isn’t reward but population imbalance. They need to fix that first.
Great idea.
there have been numerous debate over rewards
some wvwers say rewards shouldn’t be considered in wvw context becoz is wvw
some wvwers say wvw should have better rewards to attract people or to balance the earning against other modesi think there more people supporting the idea of having better rewards since good rewards naturally breed more participants and keep your wallet healthy
I think all parts of the game should reward equally (i.e. time*difficulty = reward). When Anet forces me to do something I don’t like for some gold I log off.
How about better thought and interaction with the NPC population?
I love the ogres, there should be more we can do with them, not just rescue them.
Same for dredge and frogs but really, ogres can do so much more and the pets!
Solo players deserve buddies too – buff up the NPCs and give them more oomph/depth.
If one sits at a tower alone, gathers all the sup for a single siege, gets through wall or door, one should be able to take that tower, just saying.
Are you asking for PvE in WvW? Shame on you!
WvW could be open 24/7 for skirmishing and practicing and bragging, but the evening hours where server occupation is at its peak is when WvW should really count.
I highlight this to ask a question.
What if the peak time varies from day to day, month to month and season to season?
In other words what is peak today may not be peak in 6 months time. I just don’t see how this could work over the long term.
It would be neccesary a full rework of scoring system to avoid that.
Thank you, that is a real answer without any hidden agenda. I can understand this, it will take quiet a while
So the other guys that posted have a hidden agenda? Please explain.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if they fixed “REAL” WvW issues like floating vultures?!
The fact is EB is boring. Because its stale. Its doing the same stuff over and over again for the past 3 years. and all theyve added to that is more gimmicks. I feel gliding could potentially open up EB to more fresh content and would allow for more gw2.
Gliding would be the biggest ‘gimmick’ and it would be a shallow attempt at bringing players to WvW. We need less of this not more. So I hope this never happens.
Also, the issue with maps is mostly centred around the map design and PvE content of DBL not EB.
Same story different thread, Anet doesn’t deserve our support if they won’t support us. I’m done with Anet, and I’ve stopped logging on for the login reward just so they don’t get my metric for what it’s worth. There are plenty of other companies that are willing to communicate with their player base. Anet can go Jump, I’ve had it.
So I’ve never been too into WvW, but I’ve been getting more into it recently now that I’m in a guild that enjoys it, but I keep seeing people talking about how it’s now bad? I think I’m missing something as I’m not sure what they’re referring to.
So…What’s going on? Honestly curious to see what people have to say.
This is what I’m disappointed in…
- PvE crap in WvW
- meaningless server competition
- WvW updates, plans and progress securely hidden within the cone of silence
- WvW updates not addressing core issues the player base have been talking about since day 1, instead they “fix” vultures… seriously?!
- HOT expansion was meant to have big things for WvW but there’s been nothing worth mentioning (see vultures)
- no WvW rewards (we did have the season rewards which were great, don’t know why they stopped, maybe PvE’rs complained)
- guild halls interfering with WvW progression (see PvE crap)
- no map rotation as promised (see HOT expansion)
- no seasons (see server competition)
- useless currency with nothing to buy
- lag in DBL (see PvE crap)
Going to be difficult to get a proper breakdown of guild types involved since ANet are the only ones with any idea who are allowed to say anything. I figure they’re looking for how to get PvE players interested as well, but they’re not going to do a WvW update and forget to invite any WvW guilds.
Hi. I see that you’re new here.
Thanks for the lols XD
If the redesign doesn’t remove all the newly added PvE crap to the game mode, I’m not interested.
You’re speaking my language.
So is this why EOTM is so much fun, only 3 hour matches?
The term nightcapping is relative to who you are talking to.
The term nightcapping describe when a group of people play during extremely low population times for the express purpose of getting 600+ PPT without facing any opposition whatsoever.
There’s nothing relative about it.
What if the only time a player is able to play is during low enemy population times? What do you suggest they do, not to play?
I’m in favor of scaling PPT based on total WvW pop no matter the time of day. Fair across the board with no flaws or limitations to how/when people play.
Besides that, we got EoTM. Players are automaticly compressed into a low number of hopefully populated instances. Nightcappers that choose to join WvW know exactly what they are doing. Or what, are they running around aiming for 650 tick while being confused about the fact they dont meet enemy players? Such a joke.
Cool, I think you’ve some good points there.

Anet has been inviting guilds to participate in the ‘beta’ or whatever you’d call it for WvW changes. However, of the 2 guilds I know that were invited, 1 still plays the game and it is a PvE guild. The WvW guild that I know has been invited died almost half a year ago and few of its members still play.
I now officially have no hope for this game.
IMO we need a loot buff more than anything else in the game and you’re definitely not the first to ask for one. With 185% MF in the past 12 months of solid play in WvW I haven’t had a single exotic drop, this crap just saps the life out of me… T.T
Honestly I think Anet would rather their game burn in the fiery pits of hell before they reward players for their time, only a players wallets has that ability.

So instead of a dragon banner you want a dragon drum.
Only for the comic relief. If it turned into another banner scenario then no…
This suggestion is gold, I’d be laughing so hard if I was in a battle and there were half a dozen drummers buffing the zurg (I assume the drummer would be buffing all allies in earshot).
Just read what ppl talk about,it aint loot or xp.All is about ppt,and match results with hard to recap stuff back after the nightcrew shift is done which has many side effects aswell.
OK, I really don’t give a rats about PPT, never have. I’m only here for the game play, if it’s fun I log on, if it isn’t I log off. It’s not as if we’re playing for sheep stations here is it?
Anet can barely program the wall damage correctly. You think they could possible handle this? lol
There goes another year of development
I still don’t understand what the issue is, maybe I’m just thick… my wife would definitely agree to that :P
Just so I understand I see 3 scenarios:
1- at peak times the servers can be full, lets say 500 × 500 × 500 on the map with lots of big battles which we all love;
2- at off peak times you could have 0-5 × 0-5 × 0-5 on the map (I get this a lot in my region); or
3- at off peak times you could have 0-5 × 0-5 × 50+ (I’ve never seen anything like this but I think this is what people are complaining about?)
I’m having trouble looking at which of the 3 sides has the advantage in scenario 1 and 2.
If scenario 3 happens then the 50+ server are not going to earn any loot or XP after 30 minutes when they’ve capped everything on the map so I don’t see why they’d stay to defend against 0-10 enemies. If there is a reason please let me know I am curious.
On a side note, I’ve seen people say there should be a minimum number of people on the map before you can play it, but if the map is closed how do you get to that minimum player count when no one can join. Do we join a queue for an unspecified time period until there’s at least 50 × 50 × 50? If this is the case do the sides need to be balanced or is 50 × 50 × 500 acceptable? To me that looks just like scenario 3 so you’ve gained nothing IMO. Like I said I’m a bit thick… XD
hypothetically if it was a war , I would nuke my enemy during night & will try to capture locations at night since , most of the enemy will be relaxed during night if I can’t fight back during prime time. very simple strategy..
Luckily this is a game and most people want to see decently fair matches.
It is fair, the game lets you play at any time you want, not like some of the suggestions in some threads to “restrict or disable” play at certain times of the day. If you want to play at low peak with 100 buddies you’re free to do so, nobody can or should stop you. This is as fair as it can get.
In regards to the scoring I can see how that is a bit silly and should be addressed. I’m all for equality in the score as well as the game play, but not for restrictions in when I, you or anyone else can play.

I don’t see the harm in this. Do they keep WvW kill/death data?
The current scoring structure allows scores to run away, a problem that is compounded with night capping where it is possible for a team who has recruited players from different time zones to conquer everything in off-hours leading to one side getting ahead while most players are asleep or at work.
I’m sorry but isn’t this is what you are meant to do? Recruit players to help for times you’re not in. I’ve been WvW’ing 90% of my play time since launch and guilds that played exclusively in WvW always asked me, “when do you play? We have a player shortage at 2-4 am PST and getting hammered during this time, can you help out then?”
This is common sense and I don’t get what the issue is as all server’s are free to do this.
On a side note, before the mega servers came into play, you’d often see people calling for reinforcements in LA during these times of night capping but you can’t exactly do that now without alerting the enemy. :P
Off-time
Here’s the problem in a nut shell, that people see anything but “their time” is “off time”.
^^ double this.
When you spend 3 hours defending + upgrading a keep waypoint only to find it night capped the next day, its pretty lame. Its basically a waste of 3 hours, not to mention that it kills progression. I’m sure it wasnt a problem the first time it happened, or even the first ten times, but give it a year and people will start to get angry.
Night capping is just a symptom. The real problem is that there arent servers for different parts of the world. There are servers for different parts of the world.. the issue is not everyone works/plays the same hours. When people on the east coast US are going to bed, people from California are logging in, then you have the people who get off work at 2-3 am and come on to wind down just like those who get off work at 6 pm..
The game runs 24 hours, just like the real world and the real people in it. Some people work nights, some work days.. there is no point in trying to make someone in Florida play on a server in Germany with the lagfest from hell simply because they work nights.
The issue is every server that is open should be able to have population 24/7, and also not force people to wait in a queue to play during busy hours. There are remedies for this, they just have to want to solve it.No matter what time you log in, you should have players to play with and against no matter what server you are on.
^ this.
OMG I can’t believe someone in 1 time zone wants to kitten the rest of the world if they don’t play on ‘THEIR’ time. How selfish can someone be?!
Question at the end of the day is simple. Do any of us still playing WvW honestly feel it is fun with all of the class / trait / skill / food or any other buff balance issues? Zerg vs. zerg and nothing but red circles of AoE crap on the ground honestly makes it almost impossible to play let alone enjoy the game.
Nope, that’s why I won’t buy HOT until the community says things are better.
The only problem I can see with Anet improving rewards is it might draw people to WvW away from precious PvP e-sport. If this is a risk of happening I doubt they’d contemplate doing it. T.T
I’m not a fan of the direction of WvW (or PvE for that matter) and I’m not sure how Anet can communicate intended updates to the game before they are built.
I say this as someone with 15 years experience in business application development (plus 2 crappy IOS games) and I have seen the management/developer tug of war up close and from what I’ve seen it usually consists of miscommunication on what someone wants, what someone thinks someone wants, what someone can build and what someone is prepared to build. If this is the case at Anet (which I have no idea if it is) then it wouldn’t surprise me if Anet have put a ban on letting the consumer know what’s coming because they themselves might not have a clue.
There might be other factors that influence communication, like technology used, development processes (waterfall, agile etc), people with a god complex, who knows really… Maybe they promised something to us in the past and couldn’t deliver? Or maybe they’re fed up with our honest feedback on what they’ve built over the past couple of years so they’re giving us the bird.

the WvW crowd apparently hates change
If this were the case then we’d never have asked for the plethora of changes to make the game playable. And just when I thought the game was getting to that point the new maps came and now I’m back to square 1! No I’m not dissing change, but change for the worse, that’s what I don’t like.
Hope you don’t mind me adding a couple.
14.) EOTM is more enjoyable no matter how you play, i.e. pugs following a dorito or solo roaming etc.
15.) EOTM rests every 3 hours!
16.) Map wide lag.
The progress and rewards are fantastic in D3 season 5.
XD
replace sand with spikes
This so much!
Infact replace all SAND with SPIKES! And watch them PVE’lings swarm into WvW frothing “I need my [SPIKES]!!!!”
Haha, do to PvE players what Anet did to us and put PvE matts that can only be obtained in WvW and watch the salt flow!
:-P
If something else (EOTM) is pulling players away from WvW, the solution is to bring WvW make WvW better to compete with EOTM, not make EOTM worse by removing it. Forcing people to do something they don’t want to do will never succeed in a game. You need to attract people to WvW by adding to it and making it better, not by removing all other options.
You’re basically saying “the problem with WvW is that there are other things people can do that are more fun; remove those things and they will have to wvw, which is good.”
The reality is, people do other things because wvw sucks in a lot of ways, just make it better and players will come. Is this hard to understand, that you have to make things good to attract people?
100% agree with this.
I must try flipping harder and my time in the borderlands will suddenly improve… thanks for the advice Rocknull. But how will this fix the overly large maps and PvE events that lag everything into the unplayable abyss?!
EOTM is;
- poorly implemented,
- abused, and
- encourages undesirable gameplay.
What are you talking about?
- In comparison to the rest of the game (especially WvW) I think it was a very smooth and hassle free implementation.
- How is EOTM abused? Please enlighten me.
- What is the undesirable game play? We work as a cooperative group, cap towers and fight other groups, whats wrong with that?
Personally I don’t think any of your points have any basis when looking at EOTM on it’s own. If you’re putting it in the same basket as WvW then I can see why you’re upset, I mean who wants to play on an inferior map (IMO) with less action and reward?
At the end of the day we all just want to have fun so how is EOTM taking away from your fun if you spend your time in the borderlands?
Yup, and those players who prefer to fight and are not afraid to fight, go to eotm where its harder to avoid a fight.
Seriously? Hope you are trolling. I’ve played EOTM for some time before posting all of this, and its typical gameplay is 3 blobs running in circles capping and recapping stuff after each other. If an accidental fight happens – it is a fight when one blob is spamming 1 1 1 on a lord, totally unaware of incoming. They get wiped before they can realize what’s happening. Sometimes I had a feeling many of them were bots, or AFK, or just didn’t know that people can kill you in EOTM and are totally shocked by this discovery. And if a commander announces himself a “fighting commander” he loses half of his blob, people leave him to find a farming overflow.
Today I’ve seen a commander asking his superior in size blob if they want to fight a smaller enemy blob. They decided “Naaaah” and went for another round of capping, recapping and happy farming. Much fights, fast paced nature, so wow.
And seeing how you are proposing in every post to come to EOTM and show “how it’s done” I’m getting more and more convinced that EOTM is stealing players and should be removed.
This is not my experience at all.
I’ve been playing EOTM a lot since the map came out and most commanders are great, yes they do a lot of re-capping but they also give the ‘blob’ (as you put it) frequent combat encounters to keep everyone engaged in the game. Most are certainly aware of death by red players and I’d say 75% of players keep a good eye on the commander and try to follow their instructions. Maybe your experience is a bad one but that doesn’t mean everyone’s is.
I used to be in a hard core WvW guild who did daily training and the effort to train a tight knitted group is high, to expect pugs to have the same level of awareness as a well oiled guild isn’t achievable and shouldn’t be expected or demanded. If you push this expectation on pugs they’ll just ignore you all together which will only hurt your dream of great WvW play.
I know auto-loot is one of the biggest things needed (and I do want it) but I’ve gotten into the habit of spamming the loot button as I fight, been doing that for 3 years so I don’t even notice I’m doing it. Does anyone else do this?
a lot of the times it sounds like players just want an open space to have large scale fights in? Am I incorrect in this?
It’s not complicated but no it’s not just an open space for large fights. WVW’ers want AI removed from WVW and maps that are easy to navigate as to get to the action quickly and yet are visually stimulating. We want guild housing or personal housing that isn’t complicated and held back by tons of grinding and is fair to all players not just large guilds. WVW is more than just large fights that’s just one small aspect of it. We want things to work towards in WVW like custom siege skins or gizmos, tower skins and/or decorations and better notification to the guilds that own assets so they can defend. We want population balanced in match-ups and match-ups that change often so we are not fighting the same people week after week. That’s the nutshell short version, nothing that Anet couldn’t do fairly easy.
^ this × 1 billion!
Every WvW “incentive” you have added is available in EOTM.
EOTM was introduced so people would have something to play while waiting in queue for WvW. Now there are no queues. Well, there MIGHT be a queue on EB and homeborder at the same time, but it still leaves 2 more borders for them to play while waiting in queue for EB. EOTM has outlived it’s usefuless. It doesn’t even serve as a testing ground anymore. All that EOTM does now is stealing players from WvW in huge numbers. And not because it’s better, but because it’s much easier to farm.
My server didn’t have a commander in WvW, but EOTM had a commander from my server, from a guild that’s supposed to be WvW-focused. Why? Because it allowed him to rankfarm those memories and proofs with zero resistance.
Why play WvW at all if you can have everything you need via PVE-like rankfarm in EOTM?The gamemode isn’t struggling with numbers, all those numbers are in EOTM. Lots and lots of them.
I know this problem was mentioned before, but now it’s more critical than ever.
Remove EOTM. Or cut out every WvW-specific reward out of EOTM so people won’t farm WvW rewards and WvW dailies in PVE.
Or don’t touch EOTM and remove WvW instead. One of them has to go so the other can live in peace.
Put yourself in the shoes of a dedicated EOTM player for a moment.
If you remove the map will that player be happy or angry? I bet they would be very angry. Given that they would most likely be angry I don’t think they will happily move over to the borderlands, they would most likely quit the game. This would weaken WvW more than it has been IMO. I think we need to fix WvW and EOTM will naturally become less of an issue.
This has been the issue all along, PvE crap in WvW! Why?! If we want to PvE we’ll go to a… I don’t know… a PvE friggin map!
I don’t want to defend a-net because i do agree that it takes to long and wvw is no longer bleeding players we are flat out pooring out players from wvw, but to be fair here, it is not the same devs that works on wvw that works on pve bosses. And if one area get their stuff done before wvw devs, they will ofc release it.
What you can ask your self though is why wvw is not done yet whilst shatterer is, maybe a-net need to put more people on the wvw team and preferably before also the top servers going empty in wvw.
They already gave up WvW, they say something different but over the years you can see they dont want to support this mode, it was just to get players in the games who liked RvR/AvA/WvW. Now they are telling us there is a cake, but the cake is a lie
It’s a trap!
Baby steps guys, first they fixed the definition of ‘grind’, then they fix grammar, before you know it WvW will be perfect!
