Remove the badges from the chest reward if the jp gets removed from a PvP zone.

if theres still chance for precursor, id still do the jp so this mgiht be good. also with this, i’d stop calling the badges as “badges of jumping” because thats how most ppl get most of their badges :P

I used to think I’d get most of my badges from the jp’s but since the last major patch I’ve been getting 50+ just from normal play in WvW, the badges in the jp’s become a nice bonus.

In regards to camping, I used to hate them, I even complained, but then I accepted them. My advice to the OP is wait until your server controls EB then do the jp. That way they can’t get in because they don’t have an entrance. If you must go through when there are enemies around then you actually do have to accept that 50% of enemies will not show any mercy and wipe you out. Especially as you try and negotiate the arena area. If you want to risk it you can try waving to them, that sometimes works, or you need to become very nimble and use the wells.

Dailies are a punishment to some

StormageddonBK.9842

Ask yourself

What would you like to do instead?

Is not doing the dailies preventing you from doing it?

If not doing the dailies isn’t preventing from you doing what you like to do, why don’t you just do what you like to do?

I thought id try an experiment to answer your questions, in order:

1. Play WvW.
2. Yes.

Your answers for 1 and 2 align with my play-style as well.

There have been several times I have spent 5 or so hours in WvW and only done 2-3 items on the daily list in that time. It can be a bit annoying to quickly rush in PvE to get the last couple of things done before bed.

I would prefer all the dailies to be achievable no matter what part of the game you are in, PvE, PvP, WvW or Dungeons.

The best solution for this that I can think of is to have the daily linked to your accounts xp gain. This way anyone can do anything they think is fun and as soon as they hit the daily xp level they get the achievement, hell I wouldn’t care if the xp level was really high and took me 2 hours to complete if I could spend it doing what I want to do.

Very important change.

Many time did i rush into one enemy and see several more popping up like mushrooms within seconds. It just baffled me, the unconsciously suicidal WvW player

Its even funnier on the other end.

Often I’m in a 30+ guild zurg and we see a lone player running towards us, oblivious that we’re there. By they time he sees the first of us he is already dead. It does make me feel sympathy for the guy because I’ve died like this many, many times as well.

What do you mean?

It seems perfectly reasonable to spend 10 years of your life and 12 hours every day just escorting dolyaks in GW2. Its an achievement!

I'm experiencing lags

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: StormageddonBK.9842

StormageddonBK.9842

Yes, the lag on this game is getting much worse in my experience. Constantly during my daily play sessions it take 1-2 seconds for an attack button to register (keys 1-0) to the point where a slow game like Skyrim feels super super responsive. It actually took me half an hour last night to get used to the responsiveness of Skyrim due to my time suffering GW2 lag.

The funny thing is the movement keys don’t seem to be affected by the lag?! I don’t know what the difference between moving and attacking is when communicating to the servers, I would have thought they would be equal as the server has to track your movements as well as your attacks.

Dailies are a punishment to some

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StormageddonBK.9842

StormageddonBK.9842

The only argument I would venture is that dailies should be weeklies. Many people work long hours and/or have a long commute- yet have a great deal of time to play on the weekends. If one could only accrue dailies to complete at a later time…

I don’t think this would happen because ANet wan’t people to log on every day (or as much as you can manage) to keep the community alive.

I’ve done every daily so far since January. Would I feel as if I was being punished if I didn’t do them? Hell no. But I would be very dirty on myself if I didn’t log on and get the Laurel. In this way ANet has succeeded in getting me to log on every day where I possibly wouldn’t, even if it’s to do things I hate. Believe me, every day when I do my daily I ask myself ‘why can’t I stop!’

The answer might be rather simple, addiction.

That is why I think ANet have made the daily system the way it is, to give us a ‘cyber hit’ in the form of a Laurel that we become dependent on (as soon as I get home from work I gotta get my hit). This also might be why some people are getting vocal in the hate for the new system, not because it’s hard or time consuming, but because they can’t stop doing crap in the form of a grocery list they don’t want to or they’ll miss that hit they’ve been trained to depend on. Don’t be surprised if ANet have looked into the psychology of the method, it feels to me like they know exactly what they are doing.

StormageddonBK.9842

I doubt you’ll get the response you want from Anet, all lodestone are disgusting to get, i’ve given up on ever making something with them, i just don’t care anymore…

No virtual equipment is worth that pain and hardship or cost to go through in a game.

Terrible mechanics do not make a game fun or prosperous..

My gf and I got maybe 200 charged lodestones in fractals.
They are pretty common, we usually get at least one every other run.

The game was suppose to reward players in all aspects of it, not just that one area, no wonder Anets customers are so mad and leaving, enjoy your Fotm, but i thought the game was Guildwars 2 not Fotm 2…

I came to this conclusion months ago.

Many thing in this game are fun for me, but the kind of farming this game employs isn’t. I much prefer the D2 style of farming where ALL ITEMS ARE FROM DROPS, no need to farm crap to buy crap to make some other crap to eventually (1 > year later) get your legendary crap.

I for one can’t wait for a better and newer engine to be purposely build for this style of game-play. By the way you do realise SWOTOR uses the HeroEngine which is 2011 and GW2 uses a modified version of the old GW1 engine?

Here is a quote from ANet on the engine.

“Guild Wars 2 uses a heavily modified Guild Wars game engine which includes support for true 3D environments, more detailed environments and models, better lighting and shadows, new animation and effects systems, plus new audio and cinematics engines and a more flexible combat and skill-casting system.7 It uses Havok to provide destructible environment and ragdoll animation of creatures8 and Umbra’s occlusion culling technology.9

The problems with using such an old engine (Havoc began in 2000) is highlighted by the terrible camera controlls and possibly the culling and lag issues we suffer. What they’ve done with the game IS amazing, no doubt, but I don’t think Star Wars would benefit over what they used. To be honest I think the art style of GW2 is what carries the game, whoever was in charge of the overall look of GW2 I congratulate you!

Beneficial LAG Side-effects?

StormageddonBK.9842

Hi guys, for the last couple of days I’ve been playing on my laptop while relaxing in bed (my kids were on the main PC). In PvE I get little to no lag on the laptop and about 15-35 fps, but in WvW I get ample during battle with mostly < 5 fps (as I’d expect).

The thing is during a large battle of 30+ on each side I get so much lag I am less than 1 fps. But that’s OK because I shouldn’t really be on my laptop to begin with and if I die I deserve it. However, I rarely died during these periods of intense lag. More often than not I could stand still with AOE skills going (what choice did I have as the screen was all but frozen) and by the time the fight was over (if our team was victorious) I had dozens of loot bags at my feet and my health was still full!!!

I don’t plan on playing on my laptop any more because I hate < 60 fps during big battles so I’ll be on my main rig from tonight onward, but, is this an exploit? Or was I just super lucky on the weekend not to have died during these large battles?

How is that even a challenge?

Are you people playing with one hand or something?

You keep using the word “challenge”. Hmm… I’m an older person, retired military veteran, retired due to disability. I’ve a feeling you’ve no idea what a real challenge is.

To answer your question directly… I’m pretty much playing the game with one hand. Any more condescending questions?

I’m an older retired soldier as well… :P

I remember having lots of fun playing ridiculously difficult games in the 80’s and 90’s, but they were consistent. I think consistency is the issue, I never know if the mob is going to be a cakewalk or if they are the 1 in 100 than massacre me in less than 1 second…

This is one of the reasons I play 95% of GW2 in WvW, because even though the skill levels of players vary there is never a 1 hit kill unless culling has you running into the middle of a zurg.

I’ve been highlighting 1 shot kills for ages and I often get shot down with “why do you want to ruin the game and make it too easy for the rest of us who like a challenge?” kind of response.

I have no problem with challenge if its fair (e.g. you can make an informed choice before you engage in combat), but 1 shot killed by things (including normal enemies) many, many levels below you?! If the game isn’t designed to be soloed in PvE then ANet should advise us that they intend group play only. Maybe this is what they do intend with the introduction of Guild Events, maybe they don’t like people who like soloing the world farming nodes? Who knows…

I don’t quite understand the problem. All you need to do is to get the waypoint at the end by running past the mob. Then after that just check in occassionally to see if it is uncontested.

Personally I find it very difficulty to run past all the mobs on all of the plateaus when they keep stunning, crippling and knocking me over. I usually die about 50% of the time as I try to save the silver on using the way point.

Victim of success it seems.

not at all. They reported making changes to PvE Culling which was when it started looking like crap. THEN they started making changes to the open world. the PvE culling is simply higher now than it was before.

This is why I’ll reserve praise until I see the culling fixed. But if the culling isn’t fixed in this next patch I doubt I’ll stick around for the next.

Every time I open the GS I ask myself this exact thing, where are the items to buy?! There’s only 1 set of armour (light, medium, heavy), a little bit of useless clothing, some upgrades and some boosters. Like wtf?!

They could sell so much on the GS it beggars belief there is next to nothing 7 MONTHS later to buy…

The part of the personal story to kill Zhaitan requires you to complete the dungeon on story mode. Assuming you’re not going to try and solo it, a group of 5 players should be able to do the event chain to open the gates and the dungeon.

Not sure if 5 can do the pre-event as it can be really tough, especially when the wizard goes invulnerable and instant heals if you’re all wiped or too far away. But, I’m not the best player so 5 good players may have a chance…

I thought we needed a group to complete the personal stories.

Don’t we? There are stories mode that we have 2 options:

- Wait till higher levels to do it easier.

Completing personal story REQUIRES a group. There is no ‘wait til higher level’ for Arah.

^ This.

I helped someone with theirs once but I can’t get anyone to help me with mine so I quit the personal story at the end. The reward isn’t worth it anyway, should be epic but it may as well be a standard DE reward.

If you cannot find four people for one run, even without a decent LFG tool, the game cannot be held to blame – there has to be something else involved, did you at least shout out for a PUG?

Yes, I can should all day and the only location I get into groups is COF. Arah and FOTM especially are devoid of people wanting pugs.

You’re using “content” in its literal form, I’m using content in the context of an MMO. MMO content is by and large used to describe gameplay:

So if ANet deleted all ‘non-game-play’ stuff they are not in fact deleting content? Seems like a silly definition of content to me as you would end up with boring shell of a game. Content is everything in the game including game-play, art, sounds, shinies, other players, and yes, even laurels are content.

Tried again last night and everything was dandy for an hour or so (no lag and very little culling) and then wham, lag and culling returned in an instant with a vengeance!

The culling went from seeing a player model here and there appear and disappear every couple of seconds (this is good lol) to the entire screen of players vanishing.

The lag I went from press key and attack immediately to press key and wait… wait… wait… attack (just over a 2 second delay on all keystrokes).

I persisted for 10 minutes and quit.

What’s going on? Is there someone who could let me know why the game is OK for an hour and then instantaneously hit a brick wall? Is it because a truck load of players logged onto the server at that time? It was about 10pm last night (Melbourne +11 GMT I think).

The one thing i’ve learnt since launch is:
When ANet start talking in absolutes, I don my sceptic hat.

The game’s good, and has it’s major flaws besides it’s tech – Devs that are great with hyping up things, but fumble with execution in contrast.

That the wrong use of absolute they are using it at the end of the phrase so they mean they will try to fix it. This dose not mean they will for sure fix it. Its worth the hype this is a good game most games at this level of complexly takes years to fix out every thing.

Haha, Obi kittenenobi once said, ‘Only a Sith deals in absolutes.’ :P

OMG, the swear detector doesn’t like Star Wars names, lol.

Is March patch really going to fix Culling?

I play on a laptop and I had no lag issues with WvW zergs months ago, when culling wasn’t so tight-fisted.

^ This.

When the game was released I could comfortably play GW2 on my laptop without lag or culling (about 25-45 fps). But since the ‘fixes’, especially the last one, the game is unplayable at all times on the laptop (about 1-15 fps), to the point it doesn’t matter if it’s culling or lagging lol.

If I wan’t to play now I’m now forced to go on my main rig (its a quite beefy i7 with 7970 etc), but even though I get a steady 60 fps I still have issues playing because of the culling and lag. I never see more than 10 players on screen at a time, NEVER! This is unacceptable for an MMO of any description. I might as well be playing a single player game with the high possibility of being ganked by an invisible zurg.
