Umm…sorry…but this is how Color/Team is used in EoTM as I understand it.

I just used the ANet’s article to help illustrate how “Teams” are formed in EoTM, and I thought you’d understand the reference.

That system that EoTM is using was described in my post above…not sure how long it’s been in use exactly.

Sorry if I’m making this too complex. That’s why I’m asking & providing a reference that I understand as a WvW player.


How do you assign player(s) to a team(s) in your proposed solution?

Well, you’d take US servers and break them down into 3 wvw sides based off of population averages that the devs have. You do the same for the EU side.

Populations shift over time, as stated by the devs, so the devs move whatever individual servers that need to be moved to rebalance. The tech is in place to do this now.

The neat thing is that this model includes different style maps (pvp, pvp/pve and pve) that cater to different players and play styles. Also, all maps contribute to scoring for their faction side.

In the long run the devs will have an easier time balancing populations and scoring for a 1 “world” wvw, instead on micromanaging multiple different match ups.

You’ll need to get past this 1st question before being able to answer the other questions that’s in my post.


I’m not sure if you’re aware, but server color is not assigned by the devs.

Edge of the Mists – Match Up

All European worlds will be matched up with one another in the Edge of the Mists. All North American worlds will be matched up with one another as well. Worlds will be matched according to which color they are in the current WvW matchup. For example, all green worlds will be on the same team in the Edge of the Mists.


Hope this helps you better refine your proposed solution.

I’m honestly not sure why you are making this needlessly complex here. It’s all similar to what happens now.

A 3 sided faction war is relatively easy to figure out my friend. Take all servers, balance out 3 sides by average populations. Weekly rotation happens and your faction starts on another side.

I used “color” in my phrasing, but I’m assuming it’s understood considering we have had this system for going on 4 years now. Let’s not get fixated on “color” here.

You really should invest in some “Good Idea Fairy” repellent.

Re: Server pride. I never, ever, wanted to PvP in an MMO again as my hands have deteriorated so much from RA. But, I ended up doing WvW, for server pride. I figured out things I could do, to help my Server.

If you stomp out the last vestiges of Server Pride and identity, I simply will not be pressing B anymore. I’ve never been to EoTM for that very reason.

So how are you handling alliances? How will you handle changing alliances?

Question that quickly come to mind needing an expanded detail behind the mechanics:

How do you assign players a server color?

What if everybody wants to be on Green team?

How do you prevent players from always joining the Green team?

If you offer more than 3 Colors to choose from…How do you handle requests for Guilds and Friends to be on the same Green or whatever Color team?

Glad you mentioned Language…it’s a concern for many EU players. Any mechanism being proposed to help coordinate this?

Currently I see Map Taxi being used in a lot PvE maps to get players together to play on the same map for the same event. Would this be the approved way to ferry in friends & family to fight together?


I wouldn’t depend on players to naturally spread out over the islands & Color teams being offered.

Past player behavior from my observation…is that they will want to be on the team that Wins more often.


Long term:

1) Can Players easily join a Color Team to play with Friends & Family?
2) Can Players really build communities around Team Color – TeamSpeak, Website, etc?
3) Will Match-Up always be between 3 Color Teams?


Sadly…from a Dev’s perspective…it’s a challenge to make things work.

Edit- The devs have full control over servers and transfers. They can be locked to prevent transfers. They can change grouping. Now they have the tech to do what they want to ensure a more balanced wvw.

Well someone beat me to it on reddit about coins and from the posts there and people who watch data trackers for the TP someone or a group of people bought like 67k worth of coins over 2 days, pushing the prices up as supply disappeared, this could be a case of a guild or several wealthy players trying to control a market.

Its now been 100 coins and 10 clovers returned,

They should add coins to every daily chest, meaning those who want them can just do more of them daily chests,

As for the T6 blood, the only reason it continues to be so high is because its needed to change stats on ascended armor/weapons to zerker stats, if it wasn’t for this you wouldn’t see that climb in blood the way it is.

As someone has now posted this on reddit, and its gaining more replies on there than here, id expect Anet to finally look into this problem.

WE still need a dedicated recipe for clovers no more RNG, the game already has to much broken RNG, grinding PvP or WvW is not the answer, as some people do not play them formats, and at that you only gain 2 per completed track, make it 10 and it might be a little easier.

ANet did. They figured the recent spike was someone trying to corner the market. Based on this post, they were right.

Cornering a market in GW2 is near impossible given that everyone has the ability to get everything that would be able to be sold on the TP.

If you don’t like the price they are on the TP, don’t buy them. If enough do that, there will be others who post coins for cheaper hoping they’ll be the ones sold first. And if people wait long enough to buy, it will come down quite heavily. Because more people put a lot up, or the ones who tried to corner market decided to cancel and repost as the price is tanking and they want to get the most money possible.

Edit: There is a dedicated recipe for mystic clovers: log in for 28 days and chose the legendary chest. You get 7 per chest.

MC are time gated and thus easy to manipulate…

Acquisition will be improved to fix this.

Do you have proof of this?

If not, then that’s just a guess.

If so, please link to this proof.

Because while I would love for Mystic Coins to become more easily obtained for those wishing to have the items made from them, ANet knows what value it wants the coins to have. And I don’t know what that value is. All I know is they wanted the coins to become more valuable (they had to know their change to the system was lowering the number of coins being generated).

Maybe the coins are still too cheap and all this fuss will do is get the generation nerfed again?

Maybe the coins are right where ANet wants them value was?

Maybe the coins got too expensive and ANet overshot the mark?

I would hazard a guess that them being too cheap is probably a 1% chance and right where ANet wants it at 49.5% and too expensive at 49.5%. The major item sought after from mystic coins are the clovers and those are primarily used for the legendary which already has a fairly high price tag, I doubt they wanted the mystic coins to get too expensive when attached to the RNG mystic clover recipe.

And if you’re not wanting to spend too much on mystic coins, do the 1 clover recipe. You have more chances of being near the average than you do with the 10 clover recipe.

I used the 10 clover recipe because I hadn’t gotten the T6 mats yet and they are some of the other options received. And I sold the mats that came out that I did not need.

It’s safe to say that this will be remedied judging by the dev posts on Reddit.

It’s going to be ok.

Better drop your supply now while the market is hot.

Just one thing to notice in EU, we have national server…
Then we need at least 1 EU team, 1 FR team, 1 DE team, probably ES.
To balance all that you need probably 2 or 3 EU team.

This mean probably 2 tiers for 6 servers. Or make something where all 6 servers can fight together on a lot of map.

Yup, EU is a bit different because of language barriers, but I think it can be done and become a minor technicality. I believe some tools could be added to help with chat communication and notifications.

Now that there is queues sometimes in wvw can we please move the crafting stations to edge of the mists instead or the pvp lobby? When you have big fights going on and your back up is stuck in a big queue and you see 20 people at crafting stations this isn’t cool =(
( Especially on reset night ) No offense but crafting stations shouldn’t be in wvw or if it is it should be in EOTM where it won’t count towards server population numbers on the map.

They don’t need to be in any pvp zones at all.

Great idea from OP and expanded on by Swagger! I concur – the crafting stations have no place in pvp zones. I mean… it is a nice convenience and allows WvW’ers to stay in WvW if desired when they need/want to craft, but it’s not worth it when ppl are using them when there’s a queue and more fighting bodies are needed. (I’m also down with adding them to guild halls.)

If you’re willing to remove the crafting stations from the BL’s, would a quick fix be to just disable them for now? (I’m guessing removal will take more time and effort.)

Thanks good info, Someone above said the events in Hot are bad, i disagree the events are fine if they weren’t so hard to do, they’d actually be fun..

That said the figures on all those games apart from Linage seem really low, not great not overly bad except poor Wildstar..

Either way i think NCsoft might be going into damage control from the way it came across, on all games not just GW2..

I see no real evidence that that’s the case, and I don’t know what you specifically see that gets you this idea.

To put it into perspective, Guild Wars 2 is actually roughly steady for a couple of years now. It hasn’t gone down in profits. NcSoft is saying that HoT didn’t meet sales targets and there are many reasons why that happened. One of the biggest, in my opinion, is that character slot fiasco. That was just silly. For $50 Anet should have given a character slot with the expansion.

But once the bad feelings/publicity started, before the game even launched, obviously that would heavily affect preorders. Lots of people decided to wait.

And of course a myriad of complaints followed up the launch, so that didn’t help either.

But at the end of the day, the company is fine. The only real issue right now is Wildstar, and that’s had issues for a long time now.

I predict that GW2 will keep momentum through great xpacs, Wildstar will go bye bye and NC will make CoH2!

Those are the tests we were provided so work off those.

The op can do his/her own testing to figure it out if he/she doesn’t agree with the tests.

The devs are going to rework the map to be more likable to the masses.

The devs will probably make a video showing their progress and ask our opinion.

The devs will keep working on it and someday bring it back into rotation when it’s in a wvw worthy state.

Swagger seriously… The thread is about Solo dps WITHOUT buffs or boons from another profession. The benchmarktest you post is with boons like Banner, EA and spotter.

Seriously? It’s all relative. Remove boons any you’ll still get the same rankings.

Remove boon and Ele is top dps with staff. Add boon and ele with staff will be top dps.

Honestly, you have been provided with numbers as your framework. If you don’t like it then feel free to do your own tests if you want.

Legendary armors & switch runes

Hi,

is there any official statement by Anet about this feature? I mean the chance to unlock runes once and change them whenever you want with a Legendary armor. And I think Legendary weapons should have the same feature with sigils.

Considering the super high cost for Legendary, this would be the definitive feature for them.

We basically have zero idea about legendary armor and it’s closing in on a year.

Hey Forum,
I did some theroy crafting the last days regarding to Fotm and Raids, because I’m not able to play Gw2 for a while.
So I wanted to ask the following: Which class has the highest “personal/solo” dps on small, middle and large hitboxes?
To explain what I mean with “solo”: How many dps can a single profession handle on its own without getting any help such as buffs or boons from another class? (eg. a Ele with “Empower allies”)
Might/Fury/whatever stacking by the profession itself is okay.

Raptors first surprise killed my mesmer too. Then I learned. It was only once.

Had some trouble with Revenant at start too (still learning the class). Now I laugh in the face of the raptors, can take down whole group in 3 hits and they’re not touching me.

And those sniper ninja frogs, yeah, those guys. Just had to learn their attack patterns and not ignore them. They’re pleasure to kill now.

Want to hear the harsh truth? The vanilla game made us too lazy and bad. You can’t just brainlessly aa every mob anymore to win. You actually have to press some other buttons and time some stuff now. Ever played any other mmo? Not all of them have the nice big red aoe indicators that GW2 has. Yeah, even in the jungle, HoT is not hard. It’s not braindead easy anymore (what part of original open world game was hard?) but it sure ain’t hard.

I have better suggestions…

1. Improve core professions.

2. Start balancing some combat mechanics and skills separately between pvp modes (wvw and spvp) and pve.

3. Add skills regularly to the game and frequently create elites that bring each profession various roles.

4. Put amulets back in and stop controlling the meta.

5. Let players play what they want and fix whatever players break.

6. Treat profession and combat development as a priority going forward.

How about we make SB bleed from the front?

again, this is a bad idea like removing the flanking requirement for bleeds.

90% of the time the target will be facing you assuming he isn’t targetting someone else.

So basically you’ll just 111111111 bleeds galore.

Sorry, tired, I should have added… “as well”…

Why not? It’s not like there aren’t a bajillion conditions going around anyway, so what’s the big deal over a little extra bleed?

I’ve passed this thread around to the team and it was well received. Thank you for taking the time to say your kind words about the backpack!

I like it, but I didn’t purchase it because it doesn’t go with any themes I have currently.

Now if we had different mini Chak back pieces (with sound effects) on the gem store, and awesome looking Chak armors (not outfits) for Ley Line Crystals, to go along with all those Chak weapons… I’d buy those pretty darn fast. Just sayin’

We need to cut out the developer “hand holding” as much as possible. WvW needs more sandbox and less “control box”.

It’s bad enough that devs… refuse to balance pvp and pve modes separately, force meta changes instead of working on and adding skills, did not add new skills regularly as mentioned, do not rework the cc and stealth systems, do not make efforts to bring us better and more defined roles to build and play within professions, remove amulets in spvp instead of digging back into professions, manually have to shift server alliances and control scoring…

We don’t need to devalue wvw and wvw rewards anymore than they already are by implementing a generic gear and build system.

All players can manage with exotic gear and build up Ascended over time, so do it like the rest of us.

This is like mentioning mounts in the GW2 discussion forum. Different reasons same dead horse.

Server pride is about the only thing that keeps WvW fun. Take away the ability for guilds to coordinate with each other and you get left with.. well Edge of the Mists. No server wide teamspeak, no coordinated rushes between guilds, no reset night storm, no pushes to tiers. There is one final thing…

Megaserver doesn’t support map local progress. See any HOT map as proof. Why do people Taxi dragon stand, Auric basin, etc? Now apply that to WvW. You have 1 shard where all the action is and 5 shards that are dead with no normal way for players to move about on them on their own. The last thing a guild raid wants to see after they flip garrison is “map closing in 1 hour” and getting bumped to a map that’s overrun.

I agree with those who say NO to megaserver in wvw

Please read the suggestion and my other comments because you are just fixated on the word “megaserver”. I used “megaserver” as a way to describe the map mechanic that pools players.

Honestly, you should think about is proposed here.
This can be a good evolution to WvW to not be stack on 2 map only (3 same + EB).
Just imagine something like the PvE world (lot of map connected together) but in PvP, with castle, outpost, farm, tower, quarry, mill…
This will be more tactical / build / PvP. Probably that the fight people only will not want that.

When will anet realize, that amulets are not the (main) issue?

As mentioned in the OP, there will be a few balance changes coming next week as well, but runes/sigils/amulets are one of the things the PvP team can change on our own without impacting the rest of the game. To be clear: the PvP team, just like fractals/raids/wvw/etc, does not handle profession balance – there is a separate team for that.

So who should we send our bribes of cookies, cake, pies, fruit baskets… to?

So no limits, probably zergs of hundreds of players, the return of culling/skill lag and the re-screwing of the Anet servers.

Yeah… no.

Not if you have a bunch of maps to conquer because it spreads players out…

Read my op and think if the Mist War zone was big. Think if there were 10 maps, with underground maps as well, and 8 servers fighting per side…

There are more ways to “do” wvw justice than just having 4 maps with server and scoring manipulation out of necessity.

Emergency fixes are happening now, but these current developer changes are not going to be long term fixes.

Could you imagine if the devs made a wvw expansion that blew up wvw and eotm to give us some epic massive pvp war zones instead? Could you imagine if the devs continuously updated wvw with “nice things”? Could you imagine if MO came out and said “We have 100 devs kicking kitten to bring you the coolest rvr experience out there!”?

I appreciate whatever the devs have done and are trying to do with wvw, but I don’t feel it will hold up long term honestly.

So, no,

B2P doesn’t mean you get a name etched in stone forever… It means you can load up and play whenever.

Unfortunately there are tons of names in limbo on accounts that haven’t logged in for a long long time…

Name purges have been common among mmos so it will be ok.

We do not take character or display or guild names away from valid accounts. Someone may step away and return to the game later, so the names must stay in place.

Gaile is very awesome! She’s amazing at communication! I would love to talk to her about what a valid account means.

So we could say that anyone who bought GW2 has a valid account, but at what point are they no longer considered valid around here?

Let’s look at some “things”…

Player A bought GW2, plays regularly or semi regularly or every even every few months… I would consider that valid, no real argument here.

Player B bought GW2, hasn’t played in 1 year or 2 years or 3 years and may or may not come back right? Is that player really valid enough to lock up a name game wide? Is it not enough of a b2p perk that player B can log back in anytime?

Ok so now we have p4f… Player C makes free accounts because that’s valid. They played for a week and haven’t logged in for 6+ months, or eventually 1 year or 2 years and on… Is that account valid enough to lock a name or names game wide?

So technically I could make a bunch of free accounts, locked up names and never logged in again and still be considered valid?

So let’s look at anets end on this now…

Let’s say there were 8 million copies of GW2 sold… There are also X number of p4f accounts…

Does Anet say “We have 8 million valid b2p players and X million valid p4f players currently”? No they don’t. They say units sold and registered users when touting stats, but all those factors are judged internally by monthly concurrent users. The last speculated monthly concurrency rate was 3 million back in October 2015.

We all know that there are registered accounts with names used that have not logged in for a long long long time, so are those players truly valid enough to prevent current players or new players from using those names?

Valid has to be better defined here I think…

Yes, it’s mostly dps around these parts. Other roles are very loosely defined so it’s better to go dps.
