“Most” did not vote for 1 month rotations. Most voted for more than 1 month, they just didn’t agree on how much more.
They made the right decision. 1 month was the wrong decision. End of story.
1 month was the majority vote out of 5 choices, but y’all can enjoy your empty maps again 6 months from now…

221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
How it was presented is irrelevant, a bad decision is a bad decision.
The numbers split is pretty easy to interpret. 38.1% voted for less than two months, 54% voted for more.
It’s not the 15.9% that beat out 38.1%, it’s that and the 54% combined.
This wasn’t a poll asking for your favourite flavour. Options are comparable here. If 61.9% of voters have voted for longer than a month, a month is too short.
It’s relevant, but just keep spin doctoring numbers to justify poor decisions…
Don’t host a vote if you are not going to lay out the parameters and how outcomes are determined beforehand.
The numbers were clear, most voted for 1 month rotations to bring balance through linking faster. Anet didn’t want that so they should start making their own decisions in the future and players can get back to voting with their wallet.

Suppose they did pick 1 month – has it occurred to you that the 62% (which is an actual majority… just in case there’s any confusion about that…) who voted for a longer period might not be particularly happy with that?
Why should they make an obviously bad decision just because you misinterpreted the poll?
That’s not how this particular voting process was presented to the community.
Anet made a decision outside of their own polling parameters that went against this majority vote. Since it was not a “super vote” of 75%, any rational minded person understood it to be a majority vote based off of highest number…
If anet was fishing for an average, they should have stated that from the beginning.
Anet will keep dropping the ball and it will be seen clearly as populations drop and players bail to other upcoming rvr games. As is, Anet and players can’t afford population drops, but that’s where this is all heading.
It’s nice to know 15.9% beats out 38.1%… Lol
Edit- y’all can keep your poll outcome changing and “spin doctor” defending of bad decision making, because all that means is unsatified customers will vote with their wallets in the future.

This was stated to be a simple majority poll, the majority voted for 1 month
Simple majority means >50%, which the 1-month option didn’t reach. That kind of renders the rest of your post meaningless
No it does not, nor was it stated to be a 50% needed vote… Seriously, y’all keep grasping at straws and defending poor decisions.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Was it established before the vote that they were going to take the average of votes? No they did not.
Listen, nobody is stupid here. Either clearly establish the rules to the vote or don’t host a vote. You can’t be ambiguous and you can’t change the outcome unless it’s clearly stated that will happen.
Last vote was 70%, 5% shy of goal, but you didn’t see Anet change the rules on that one considering it was so close…
Waste of time voting process.
This type of stuff makes Anet look bad in the eyes of players. Anet can’t afford to burn the majority of voters on these polls.
It’s not an election it’s a poll. At the end of the day the poll is just feedback that anet can do whatever they want with or interupt it however they want. To them it read, a lot of people find 1 month 2 soon, while large group find it fine. They compromised and found something in the middle.
Anyways I voted for 1 month, but figured this would happen. In all honesty 4week rotation is a bit quick, and I wished 6 weeks would have been an option over 2months. I think we would have had less vote split. Regardless I am happy with every 2 months. It’s a step in the right direction.
Don’t ask for player votes if you are going to change results.
Tell those players on blow out servers that 1 month is too fast… 15% wanted 2 months. 38% wanted 1 month.
If Anet wanted a poll that would end up being averaged out then clearly state it or don’t have a poll.

This was supposed to be a majority vote and the majority spoke to get populations balanced sooner than later.
If 38% of the people want 1 month and 46% of the people want three or more months… be glad the compromise was at 2 months. Two months or less only got 54% which is hardly a decisive “majority” vote.
Based on the numbers the average comes out to around every 9 weeks (actually closer 10 based on the question format).
this was supposed to be a majority vote, not a vote on averages…
don’t offer 1 month if you are not going to implement 1 month. simple.
the 39% have every right to be bothered by this, and I hope those that voted in the 39% make their voices heard.
the 39% do not want to sit in blown out matches for 2 months that we can’t compete with.
they better unlock tc and bg so the 39% can get off their carpy servers until things get figured out.

The poll has ended! After removing all votes for “Don’t Count My Vote” the final results are:
38.1% Reevaluate match-ups monthly.
28.9% Reevaluate match-ups quarterly.
15.9% Reevaluate match-ups every other month.
11.6% Reevaluate match-ups every 6 months.
5.5% Reevaluate match-ups every 4 months. After analyzing the results we have decided to go with a 2 month world linking evaluation schedule because the majority of players voted for evaluations to be more frequent than quarterly but less frequent than monthly. Since we have decided to reevaluate every 2 months we will be reevaluating the current world links and making adjustments on the very last Friday of every even month starting this month on the 24th. Thank you to everyone who voted!
I’m afraid that you do not understand the system of a plurality vote. In the last poll, 70% wanted 1 Desert and 2 Alpine borderlands. But you said, it wasn’t enough, so the vote were meaningless.
Now, the majority wants monthly change, but again you say it’s not enough. So you choose a system, no one voted for. Are you kidding me? If this goes on, you can keep your polls for yourself and don’t annoy us with these anymore!
Pretty sad state of affairs…
I’m not trying to be negative, but this is all indicative of anets past decision making that has lead us to these types of places throughout the game.
This was supposed to be a majority vote and the majority spoke to get populations balanced sooner than later.
This is not an rvr mode, it’s a glorified spvp mode. Anet asks for feedback and votes, but doesn’t care.

just tested it a few matches and its worthless without a good team. its only good if there are team mates around to do the damage for you while you keep them alive a little longer. i was in mid it was a zerg fest on both sides and i was the last one to drop in my team .also tested it out on lord in the mist took me 5 min to kill all the guards and the lord. this build will fail you in sapphire
@ Trunks, I am glad you tried it out at least.
Yes, I will agree it is very dependent on the team you have, that is true.
As for the lord thing – this is not a damage build so you won’t be able to kill lord, it’s full support.
Well…it got me to Ruby last season, so I will have to see how far I get come the close of this one. You could be right, who knows, considering the MMR changes this go around.
@Swagger, been trying to use CA more as suggested. Haven’t changed the build at all, but using 3 + 5 in CA when I can have seemed to help the team more. The last 6 matches I played trying to use CA, were wins – and wins that felt much easier and smoother…it will take a little getting used to.
edit: @ Trunks, I made it to Sapphire this morning, guess I will have to see how it goes.
Yeah, I watched a couple more of those vids and you were really kicking kitten .
Being a long time pvper, and someone who prefers to play support roles, Rangers now have a lot more competitive tools. Still not happy with heal support designs overall, even with Ventari and such, but at least it’s something better than what the Ranger had to work with before.
Keep up the vids, and we will keep learning.

221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
As a player on RoF I would like to echo the sentiments of our friends from WSR. One of the benefits of the RoF/WSR pairing was that we started with almost equal wvw populations. Therefore I don’t think either one of the servers feels like the junior partner. We have built good relations and have worked together well.
Given that I feel strongly that server linkage was forced upon us, to have the bond we have made with WSR destroyed now would, I think, harm both communities. And as others have said I don’t see how we can fight people we have made friends with.
We don’t need or perhaps have to be merged – but I believe permanent linking would be good for us – for both servers.
We can’t keep looking at “hey, well on my server” and “our linking is good”, we have to look at how wvw is doing as a whole.
This is akin to BG coming to the boards and saying “hey, BG and ET are awesome now, what’s the problem?”
WvW as a game mode is doing poorly and the entire mode needs to be addressed, not just pandering to individual servers or links.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
It needs to be addressed monthly so we can get to a point where population balance is closer to even and matches are not blow outs.
Blow outs cause player demotivation and loss, even matches generate interest and hope. WvW won’t survive long term with this unbalanced mess, and bandaids on open wounds won’t fix the core problems.
I appreciate the efforts, as many do, but these are all minor adjustments and reinvestments to wvw comparatively. Are they good steps? Yes, sure, but nothing indicates a better rvr experience for the long run. I forsee more condensing and combining servers as times goes on until the devs are forced into panic mode when it’s too late and players are jumping ship.

There are long standing issue across professions that are never addresses. Balancing between PvE and PvP (wvw and spvp) is consciously not being done…
So for core Ranger-
Damage output is very low and we lack the “bags of tricks” other professions do… Ranger is second worst dps through tests and Mesmer dps tests are lowest, but let’s look at how well they function in all game modes…
Pets can’t hit moving targets consistently and f2 skills are slow as heck.
We are forced to use broken pets that miss many attacks in any movement based combat, but their hypothetical damage output is factored into core ranger design.
Druid- poor damage with staff auto, #1 and #2 could add burning to make staff better and it would fit thematically. Staff #3 is the best skill because it allows us to strategically move. Staff #4 is useless in movement based combat, could be a direct target attack that actually hits targets, or a big kitten aoe attack (see necro and ele staff skills) so we could hit consistently and on walls as well. staff #5 is useless, make it an aoe protective dome skill…
Having to apologize to team members while playing healer on Druid and Ventari is a clear indication something is wrong. They both have wonky and clunky heal designs. CA is awful due to gating mechanics, and reticle aim healing in movement based combat is similarly awful. Having to move around the Ventari tablet is awful as well… Overall, support role designs and skills are poorly done for movement based combat, and anyone with a degree of experience can see that. Here are some old Druid design suggestions…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Healing-design-real-talk-updated/first
…I could break down each profession and tell you the major design flaws, but after almost 4 years y’all have to start choosing to care about the most important aspects of the game first, which are professions and combat.
Did a quick search from 3 years ago to display how little effort has gone to profession development…
Took 3 years to resolve the above sword auto issue… And sword is still lackluster
Pet “stuff” quick search from 3 years ago as well.

Pet thread will come on soon. Its gonna be a long one for me. I am trying to cover all the most basic areas where pets fail.
Here I’ll help you, because the devs won’t do any extensive work on pets…
1. Speed up pets so they can put pressure on targets.
2. Speed up pet attacks and f2 skills so they can hit moving targets.
3. Fix these first.
4. Make pets optional, and boost ranger damage appropriately when pets are locked out of the build so we are given a dps spot in groups instead of being regulated to buff bot with gated and timed reticle heals…
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
I can make a thread for pets if people are interested. Itl be up the community as a whole to post in it and give feedback however. And I would also appreciate if people helped me gather information on the subject (there was a post in reddit at one point about the time to kill of pets on moving targets that would be useful).
I don’t think we need to go all out on this personally. The fact that we are forced to use pets and they don’t hit moving targets consistently of put any really pressure on targets is a big enough for the end to focus on. Their aoe/area attacks are useless on moving targets too…
Pets/minions/illusions… Are very poorly done in this game overall, and if ranger pets could hit moving targets fast F2 skills that hit, we can dissect more after that.
Ill keep it general. But giving htem as much room to work with and as many ideas as we can give is important I think. Itl be a multi post thread for sure if I want to cover each topic even a LITTLE bit. But saying “hey these are the areas we need work on” and letting them see them even if we keep it in general terms is a good place to start I believe
Isn’t it sad that the devs still have to ask about issues with professions?
I mean it’s not like most of the same issues haven’t been around for almost 4 years… Pets can’t keep up with and hit moving targets, and our pet f2 attacks are poor, but are factored in to our dps equation… That hasn’t been important to fix?
We are forced to have subpar pets, our dps is horrible, Druid healing is a mess of gated reticle heals where we have to chase cats with reticles on timers and apologize to teammates for not being able to heal them at times…
We ask to fix axe offhand, but we get another wonky reticle skill on axe 4, and axe 5 still roots… Professions are dropping never ending condition bombs on players, yet we can’t get SB bleed from the front… GS damage is absolutely awful… Sword auto was a half hearted revamp and we lost our tracking… Pets are still awful nearing 4 years… Druid staff auto is awful damage and the only notable skill is staff #3, least they could do is give staff burn conditions and have #4 a direct target skill… It’s embarrassing that I have to explain to teammates why I can’t heal them at times and explain that if they want healing they need to stand still…
As nice as it is to be asked what issues Rangers and Druids (and other prof too) have, it’s frustrating because nothing is ever done about the main issues. It’s also unfortunate that balancing separately was discussed by the devs, but that won’t happen because “it’s adds more overhead to balance work”… Yet they want to have a good pvp experience for players?
Maybe this time around will be different, but it’s all just lip service until things are done. Professions and combat are the main core of this type of game, yet they are given the least development effort… At what point are professions improved beyond stationary target golem designs?

Great thread, thanks. Good feedback from OP and the subsequent posts.
Haven’t had a chance to read every post yet, but I really think ANet needs to look at the pet abilities. So many of them are underwhelming with ridiculously long cooldowns.
Especially if pets are here to stay as a mandatory part of the class.
Is there a similar thread to this one but for pets – ideally somewhat current? Looked over a few pages but came up empty handed. Would love to take a look.
The issue is that pets have difficulties hitting moving targets. Many F2 skills fire off way too slow and only function well when the target is still. Pets are slow in general and have trouble sticking to the target. Would personally like to see all pet aoe/area skills turned into direct attacks because they are more of a waste currently.
I hope the team improves heal support designs because Druid and Ventari are very “clunky”, and other heal support builds aren’t that great either. Playing healing support, and support roles in general, has been the worst experience in all my years of gaming.
Seeds of Life are also useless on the move. Plus other thoughts in the link…

Most want balanced matches first to make good fights, and linking more frequently can get us closer to that goal faster.
WvW is not complex, doesn’t require more than a week to understand what’s going on and we don’t need to drag months out with relationship building to function together.
Your guilds may care about each other’s, but randoms really don’t. All the randoms want to know is that you know you stuff and don’t need all sorts of hand holding.
If the devs could go back in time to change wvw they would have made a 3 realm/faction experience, not this headache of juggling 51 servers.

I’d say its declining still. I moved back to my old server which is currently in T3 and to me it looks like the population of T4-T5 Pre-HoT yet it is 2 servers linked now. I left it a few days after HoT came out, didn’t play much after I left and now that I’m back I still don’t feel like playing.

Y’all know what “prelude” is?
This prelude to white mantle and ls3 is not a very good one so far. Nor are the npcs and bosses interesting with the way they are presented and laid out.
Question is, do you?
The term you were looking for is prologue (for literature) unless you were changing the subject to music.
Even if we were to take prelude and use it in context of narrative instead of choire, which part of short story, preface or introduction conflicts with the term side story?
Again, the entire raid story is supposed to be selfserving and not required for players to follow future content.
Do you really want to niggle about prelude and prologue?
No it’s not “required”, but it’s part of the whole story being told, and an important lead in to ls3… This raid story “chapter” is not good.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Story doesn’t really matter for repeatable content. Fractals have no story. The explorable dungeon paths barely have a story.
You play a story once. You play good content several times over.
That’s fine, doesn’t change my impression that the story is not good.
Most of the storytelling game wide hadn’t been that great either, so it’s not just me pulling things out of thin air.
Your impression is your own and you have every right to it.
The story in HoT being to flat or not deep enough is a valid concern aswell, but has literally nothing to do with raids or how good raids are. The story told during the raid wing was always ment to be:
- a side story
- requied to be discovered (aka mystery and hint based)
- not to extravagant or “need-to-see”Reason being that Arenanet expected raiders to be only a fraction of the players base.
Even with all the concerns and drama from people who do not raid, raids from a raiders perspective have been a success and most successful raiders will account to that.
The raid is not a “side story”, it’s supposed to be THE lead in to living story season 3… The whole thing is just meh and mashed up together.
This is where you are mistaken heavily, it’s not considered the lead to the living story. It’s considered to be a sidestory, based on the story of “Guild Wars:Beyond” (more specifically the War in Kryta).
Also it’s your own fault that you are unable to understand where the story of this raid might lead to and why the bosses are fought in the order they are in.
If you want to know more about it there should be videos about it (namely from WP, and also Deroir i think?!?)
Please stop making threads like these if you don’t understand what is going on in the raids in the first place, thank you.

OK. As someone who raids though, this kind of criticism is on the level of: “I don’t like how Dessa looks in the fractals lobby.”
Even if anet adopted your suggestions, it would not make raids more fun, or pull in any long term players. If anything, the cynical side of me says that we would get more people complaining about being locked out of the story.
I’d rather have the developers focus on raid gameplay and mechanics, than make a story or cut scene of fleeting value.
I’m not the one trying to put the story there in the first place… Each raid will have some type of theme and story, so hoping they can make it better going forward.

I give raids a 3 out of 10 with all things factored in like story, immersion, combat, profession designs and their combat roles, replayability, inclusiveness…
The devs could do way better.
Yet most players who do raids consider it to be really great. At least compared to the rest of the game which is more lika a 1.5 out of 10.
That’s fine, but it’s not saying much considering most of the GW2 population doesn’t do raids, and some who have tried have had similar complaints as myself.
Raids could have been designed better considering they are end game content. Hopefully part 3 and any future raids are better.
If amount of players playing raids were a sign of how good the story is, WoW raids must have gone up story wise by thousands of % in quality since vanilla. Since Blizzard went from less than 5% of the playerbase raiding to over 40% of the playerbase.
Now that could be due to superior writing, or the massive decline in difficulty. Given the kitten story WoW has enjoyed over the last 3 expansions, I doubt it’s the former.
So no, the amount of players of the playerbase completing/playing raid content is not an indicator of how good the story is. Especially in a game like GW2 where raid content is the only content which deserves any type of mentioning combined with the word difficult or organised in pve.
There are multiple different reasons why raids aren’t good. Yes, the story is part of those reasons.

That’s fine, but it’s not saying much considering most of the GW2 population doesn’t do raids, and some who have tried have had similar complaints as myself.
Raids could have been designed better considering they are end game content. Hopefully part 3 and any future raids are better.

Yeah so this is how I would have told the story…
Part 1.
Cut scene upon entering… Pact scouts are missing, please help find them!
Look for clues… Bandits attack… Fight lots of bandits and recover some bodies.
Cut scene… Thank you for recovering their bodies. Your team must gain entrance to the vale because more are missing! There is a group of bandits blocking entry, you have to take them out before we can go further!
Go beat up Sab and her super crew. After killing Sab you find a white mantle symbol. Return symbol to historian and find out about white mantle.
Part 2.
Ohh spooky jungle. Fight cray undead “gorlings” controlled by bandits/white mantle. Find more white mantle clues.
Part 3.
Fight more bandits and a big kitten undead monster thingy (like a gorling abomation or something). Save pact members. Find out the white mantle are feeding the souls of the dead to Gor.
Part 4.
Fight bandits that were corrupted and mutated by Gor’s souls river, on our way through the soul river, and face the mighty and terrifying Gor.
Part 5.
Take on the bad kitten white mantle bandits at their camp. Save more pact people from becoming Gor soul food. Find out even more about white mantle.
Part 6.
Kick Matt’s kitten . Kick kitten cutscene. More to come!
Right now playing through it’s like “who are you and why should I care?” and “Do I really have to research dulfy, watch videos of fights and makes notes, wait hours for a decent group and sit in team speak listening to orders for this? And I have to do it how many more times?”
The raid here is not interesting comparatively. The design breaks immersion completely and is polar opposite of the “pick up and play” design which GW2 was known for.
I give raids a 3 out of 10 with all things factored in like story, immersion, combat, profession designs and their combat roles, replayability, inclusiveness…
The devs could do way better.

Pretty straight forward question.

Well it would be nice of them to give a list of what we will need so players can work toward that goal while they have waited a year…
The devs have clearly dropped the ball on raids and rewards. Never seen a game company handle things poorly like this.

I’m in YBBL. I was really hoping to drop to T2 this week. There’s no balance in sight. I won’t partake.
Please fix.
Yay for balance!

Is it wing 3 or raid 3 though? after all, the 2nd wing is still part of ‘envoy armor I : experimental armor’. Supposedly there will be a II and III to follow, possibly even an IV as with the fractal backpack.
From what I can tell it seems that the next wing will only make the first precursor-step obtainable, meaning it’ll probably be another 2 years or so before we get the full legendary. I may be misunderstanding things though. The precursor is what you get from completing the first collection. Legendary armor follows a theme with each raid, and considering this raid only has three wings, it will be available with the upcoming wing. The only other collection that I can see them doing is for the gift.
What do you base this on? that would make this the shortest collection anet has done.
its only been drawn out buy waiting time. They’ll shove insane material costs down our throats, don’t worry.
Yeah, we better be prepared to x6 all current legendary costs…

We are looking at ways to improve transfer experience. It’s a complicated problem.
Our current preferred solution, which we’ll likely poll players on, is as follows:
- If you think of the periods between world links being changed as seasons, then we’d lock all transfers for the first half of the season, and allow normal transferring in the second half.
- So assuming we continue to update world links once every 3 months, the first 6 weeks would be locked for all worlds and the second set of 6 weeks would allow normal transfering (costs scaling based on population size.) Then we’d relink worlds and lock transfers for another 6 weeks.
Future doesn’t look so bright Tyler… I don’t see how any of these efforts will be sustainable for the long run or less of a headache to everyone.
Unless y’all convince MO to make a full fledged 3 realm experience, with enough maps to support it, I’d suggest just going the EotM style WvW route and have timed matches… Pool players from 3 super sides, add up all scores, award winners something extra at the end of each match. Relink servers as necessary to balance. This route will have less collateral damage over time and stronger communities will form over this 3 sided model.
There are obviously almost zero complaints about populations and scoring in EotM, so we have to stop pandering to the individual servers. It’s not good for the overall health of WvW.
I’ll be honest, though, I much prefer pvp related stuff over PvE stuff, but here I spend very little time in wvw and almost no time in spvp for reasons. For a pvp minded player like myself, I have almost 1000 wvw ranks and like 300 spvp matches over the course of going on 4 years. The profession choices are limited, there are virtually no decent roles to play, overall rewards are not good, wvw is always unbalanced, there is nothing inspiring to fight for… The best words I can use to describe how I feel overall are… It seems wvw and spvp were afterthoughts, so players like myself treat it as an afterthought. Players like myself will take it seriously when y’all take it seriously.

The results turned out more mixed than we think will be good for the future health of the game. For that reason we are going to run a “Remove Desert Borderlands?” poll first and then run a variation of this poll again. The updated poll will be reworded for clarification due to large amounts of feedback that many of the ‘No’ votes were cast with a misunderstanding of what they meant.
How about we have a poll to “rework or remove dbl” instead?
What rework would u possibly want? they made it easier to navigate beaquse apparently peep have alzheimers who play wvw and forget where to run. They removed the meta event, yes it caused major lag for all parties. Yes they could make north towers position more strategic but why would that be a problem, the vocal cry baby minority only likes to fight on open fields with no structures so why do they care.
Always fun when you pop your head out of eotm every few weeks to spew random insults that highlight your lack of understanding.
You must mistake me for someone else, I havent played eotm for 1½ years. Its a nice map tho, argueably better then desert but way better better then stale depressing alpine.
You obviously are not aware of the common complaints with the map.

The poll has ended! After removing all votes for “Don’t Count My Vote” and combining the two “Yes” votes, the final results are:
69.7% – Yes (55% Double Alpine + 14.7% Double Desert)
30.3% – NoSince “Yes” to Mixed Borderlands did not received the required 75% of the vote, we’ll continue with the quarterly borderlands map rotation instead. Thank you to everyone who voted!
I hope revamps to dbl happen.

im having fun. the game will lose appeal and eventually die. an unavoidable truth.
Ok, but wouldn’t you rather have GW2 improve as much as possible? I know the devs certainly do because that means more $.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
So GW2 is a successful mmo that is wasting away portions of their game.
Don’t have a feature if you’re not willing to put a strong effort back into that feature at some point right?
GW2 wants to advertise in the mmo space and tout successes, but the reality is still there despite the numbers…
http://m.ign.com/articles/2015/10/23/guild-wars-2-hits-7-million-players-as-expansion-launches
GW2 didn’t do so well converting free players into box sales. Nor did the increase in free players make any noticeable bump in wvw populations.
http://fortune.com/2015/11/24/areanet-investing-in-esports/
3.1 million monthly concurrency, but here is wvw struggling.
Why was there such low appeal to convert free players? Why lower than expected box sales overall? Why is wvw still in condense mode? Why wasn’t something done after each tournament having permanent losses to the wvw playerbase?

You are trying a little to hard to troll, The first wing is suppose to be a mystery, and as you progress the details fill in. You are entering on a mission to find the missing squad. The vale guardian is something created to protect the entrance, sure no a great reason for it’s existence but it’s just an opener to the raid setting.
Gors you have is a creature of the combined spirits of the thousands of souls (which you learn were sacrificed) coming together for revenge. Sabetha the bandits who have captured the squad, Your mission? defeat her and release them, as it was from the start.
Only after defeating her (and details in pages along the way) you learn of more beyond the wall. You go through, run into slothosor, a mutated monster powered up by excess magic energy released with the dragons death. Move on to a fort… a bandit fort (not pointless, which i have no idea how you think it’s random) the home operation of the bandits (who you learn right after work for the white mantle). You defeat the bandits, release the remaining missing squad members (original goal). But as you move deeper, to go and find the squad captain, moving to the temple in the distance, the weather around changes due to the immense magic. You come to Matthias, a white mantle inquisitor. Even at this point you are still following the original goal of finding the captured squad. Now is where part 2 comes in, The white mantle are here and sacrificing people (Gorseval),…. Details to be in wing 3.
None of this as you claim needs to be found out in a outside source. As for the complaining of TS… well it’s still a raid, so you know AFTER you clear the raid, you can go in and find all the details, You know the pages of information? It doesn’t take much effort to pay attention to the couple sentences here and there before and after a boss fight for the extra details beyond that.
You seem in your OP to try extra hard to purposely turn down on how bad the raid story is. It makes sense and is all is available in the game if you actually took the time to listen and read to whats provided in game, compared to just complaining.
Ok so the theme is “save the pact members” with all sorts of random stuff thrown in with a lead in to white mantle.
Think the story would have been better if Sab and the crew were guarding the entrance.
More bandits stuff and creatures captured by the bandits to fight down the path.
Bandit camp.
Gor.
Matthias.
Random guardians and random Slothasor out.
Just saying, it all seems a bit messy here. There is not any decent flow or progression to the raid.
So what do we expect next? We fight Gaile’s mutated frogs? Then we find out how Rytlock became the first Revenant and have to fight him to learn the power of legends to take on Taimi and her golems? Do we find out that Svanir is the true leader of the white mantle and fight him? Does this all reveal that Evon Gnashblade is really Dhuum and using all these characters to feed Gor to fuel his strength?
I know I’m being goofy with the above, but honestly the story and enemies in the raid are just uninspiring. Wherever story is there is broken by raid boss designs and the need to pull yourself out of the world and listen to chirping on TS. The main focus of the whole thing has become… learn fights online, sit in TS, memorize mechanics inside of timers. It’s not about play and have fun, and anyone looking for a good story wrapped up in good enemies is not getting that out of raids.

There was another suggestion about making WvW it’s own thing, with it’s own armors, and gear, so that when a player enters WvW, they have their own unique armor/gear set, that is not related to PvE at all.
And that makes sense, why should someone that really enjoys WvW need to grind PvE to build up to play WvW, that would be like making players PvP to get the gear to do PvE, if that seems silly, that is exactly what Anet is doing in reverse.
Yeah, it’s a mess.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
Ok, so we have this raid and the theme is all over…
We have guardians blocking the passage designed to annoy players. Not really fun.
Gor is a cool spirit ghost whatever monster, ok cool kinda fits.
Insert random chick with flamethrower and bandits.
Slothasor, out of place.
Bandit camp ok, random.
Matthias, ok, you want a lead in to LS 3.
I don’t know about anyone else, but it’s like Anet just threw in whatever just to be different.
Like all this individual random stuff is Fractal quality. Even dungeons were themed better and that’s not saying much.
Y’all can’t throw a bunch of random things together, try to glue mismatched pieces together and form some interesting story. Are raids supposed to like Alice in wonderland, or an interesting place with a good theme and cohesive story with sensible bosses? Are future raids going to be a random mix of random elements and random bosses? Are players going to need to read the wiki to make rational sense of each story being told?
Honestly, this raid seems like you’re trying too hard to be different more than anything. It all seems rushed and poorly thought out and delivered.
As a player who enjoys a good story from time to time, and to get into character for fun, raids fail to deliver those. Players can’t jump in and have fun, they need to wait an hour for a team, use TS and remove themselves from the game world to listen to orders, we are met with random boss 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… And need to spend time researching outside sources to understand what is going on. The whole thing fails to engage players who want to just play in the game world and have fun. Raids are a mess, and I’m not sure what the main goal of the raid really is.

Well, I never played an online game that promised a particular reward then made players wait a year for them.
Pretty disorganized overall and shows what level of resources are going to raids.
I know some of you like to make excuses for Anet, but stuff like this is not acceptable. Raids were obviously not ready or fully fleshed out. It shouldn’t take a year to bring this entire raid. There are other game companies knocking out more content and faster, yet here it’s 1 little piece at a time. It’s very clear raids were pushed out the door to have it as a selling feature.
Pacing/releasing content was always a weak point for ANet in GW2, we had so many droughts by now it’s ridiculous.
The worst thing is that we still don’t know how the armor will look like.
It almost feels like a bad joke honestly.

Yeah they’ve said previously that they’re not happy with certain statspreads for the accessory slots only being available in raids. The particular one they tend to single out is Viper’s but all spreads have applications in WvW. They’ve said they want to open up access to these spreads in LS3 but how precisely they plan on going about that is anyone’s guess.
why cant they just add them to the bloomin laurel vendor????
Because Anet has decided they want to force you and I to play all parts of the game. They want to push activities that we may not find fun in order to get certain rewards. They do not value the individual players time or interest.
And if Anet wants to keep forcing players into raids for specific rewards, they should make sure the experience is fun. Currently these raids are the most unfun instance content, and overall subpar experience, I’ve ever had in all my years of gaming.
