Yeah, that’s one of the sad parts about it; them just not really caring about PvE or WvW balance. They stick so close to thematics that Ranger personal dps will always remain low because, thematically, it’s a the ginger child nobody love.

I think Anet devs dont know how to balance the pet and the ranger together, mechanically it’s like fighting 2 enemies instead 1.
Did you see what they did to the hiena pet because it can call an ally? So they halved the pet stats making that pet be completely useless. Even if you can keep 2 of those running around, the lack of dps and health is simply awful.
They want the pet to deal damage but if it does it get nerfed. Meanwhile we have attacks like Revenants Coalescence of Ruin that hit for 10.000 hit points at 1200 range to up to 15 targets (5 per patch and there are three), have 4 seconds CD and cast of 1 second that it’s actually 1 second, no weird pre or aftercast animations.
Anet knows about profession flaws, balance between modes flaws, low quality roles to play flaws, combat system flaws (like conditions and mid combat stealth)… They just choose not to do anything about it.
Anet picks a couple of bullet points to throw in to patches and doesn’t do anything substantial to improve the most important aspects of the game. All professions are in the same boat, so it’s not limited to ranger.

Tell me how wvw will look when the next of kin to the original rvr game (that gw2 wvw is modeled after) comes out and there are 3 unique factions, 10 unique archetypes/roles that translate to 30 non-mirrored classes, an engine designed for 500 player battles in the same space, a world map without queues and an entire game built specifically for pvp?
DeWolfe is more on the right side here, and you will not see a healthy wvw in the future. Especially not when something new comes out that is being highly anticipated by pvp/rvr minded players, while nothing substantial will be done to wvw here.
WvW has been a neglected game mode and nobody can deny that, and you think linking and reward tracks will save it? Think the same old maps will hold players? You think the continuous unbalanced population matches will be motivating? You think the lack of substantial profession and combat development will be fun to continue playing?
Participation rates are obviously poor considering the need for linking, and you think wvw will look good in the future?

WvW map completion never should have been removed as a requirement for Gift of Exploration, WvW maps were some of the easiest to complete regardless of what some people say. Make WvW Great Again!
Except it didn’t make wvw great in the first place… You had a bunch of annoyed people that didn’t want to be there just doing an annoying chore. This servers zero purpose besides to kitten off more people.

Players, npcs, pets, minions, illusions, clones all need to be easily identifiable individually. We are asked to make split second decisions in combat and it becomes a mess of targeting all the time.
Because there are color blind players as well we can’t just go with different colored fonts.
Player tag- I don’t give a hoot what server the enemy is on or what guild they are from. Have a “light” military style rank icon directly above their head. Have different icons denote achieved rank. Having the icon allows players to identify actual players among the visual mess.
Npcs- The nameplate is fine.
Pets, minions, illusions and clones- No nameplate unless targeted. Simple name for each… Pet, minion, illusion and clone.
You can’t have a sea of name plates in wvw and you can’t have actual players hidden in the chaos. We need simple and easily identifiable.
There was a warning some weeks ago (the April patch) when they introduced the wvw reward tracks.

Light mention in 20k word patch notes that are easy to miss and don’t stand out.
“Once the reward track feature exits beta” is ambiguous.
The devs could have made it known a couple weeks prior that the reward track beta would exit and to buy what you need, if you need. It’s a communication thing, but I understand it’s easy to miss something like this among the flood of work.
At this point it would be reasonable to make a post saying “hey, we are making the vendor available for 1 month, until this date, so pick up your GoB if you need them. After this date the vendor will no longer be available and GoB will only be obtainable through reward tracks going forward.”. That would be clear, concise and appropriate at this point.

Offhand axe is completely useless in wvw and spvp.
GS is only really good for the movement skill and against the occasional not so good player because the damage is awful. Unless you get the lucky crit here and here depending on build.
I haven’t seen SB in pvp modes since the LB buff. Damage is awful, and without bleeding from the front it’s even more useless. But ya know, some professions can flood players with conditions so naturally any bleeds from the front would be unbalanced…
Main hand axe is a good zerg tag weapon but damage is mediocre.
Sword eh, an ok dueling weapon, but damage is meh too and without tracking now…
LB rangers get torn apart in pvp settings unless they are left unchecked to pew pew away.
Staff is meh damage, could use some burn on 1 and 2. 3 is good for kiting and a bit of healing. 4 misses constantly. Hardly ever waste time with 5.
Overall our damage is low on weapons. Druid we can sustain more. Until pets are optional, we will always be the meh damage profession with clunky heals throughout the game.
There isn’t anything very notible about Ranger/Druid except for being desired in raids to do close quarter healing and buffing. Beyond that, there really isn’t any place that this profession shines. Although, we can run away awesomly in wvw with the right build so that’s a big plus!
Its pretty clear that there is sufficient support to keep the desert maps in some form.
A quarterly rotation will likely result in a large portion of players sitting out depending on which maps are being employed.
Allowing different borderlands to use different maps during the same match may lead to balance problems.
Making EBG a desert map solves a most problems.
It will maintain balance.
It will avoid midweek map switches (which will suck)
It will provide roamers/havoc a large space to play.
It will provide blobbers 3 maps to blob.Maybe HoT got it backwards.
Blobs need more maps because they hit the map cap quicker and the large groups make increased map caps a problem due to lag.
Making EBG for roamers/havoc should allow EBG a higher map cap since they will(should) be spread out.
The devs stated that EB is the most popular map so they are not going to change it.
WvW maps are designed for mass/blob/zerg combat 1st. Players can still roam and havok easily even with masses of players on the maps. Anyone saying otherwise is wrong and just embellishing.
Also, players are not going to willingly “spread out”. The devs tried to force “spread out” gameplay with DBL, but we know how well that worked out.
The most important thing here is that name clutter needs to be addressed. The clutter from blended masses, skill clutter, red circle clutter… on top of name and icon clutter… makes combat a huge visual mess. Also, the engine handles mass combat poorly so that’s another factor too in all this messiness.
Some nameplate options were data mined on Reddit so who knows, but first we need to clear up the distracting messes so our eyes can stay focused on players and skills during combat, not a distracting sea of huge nameplates, icons and unnecessary stuff.
I’m perfectly fine with the legendary insights requirement as it is something I naturally get while doing the thing I love : raiding.
I’m way more worried about all the other ridiculous and boring requirement that we might get. For example, provisionner tokens!?

This is a great thread. It’s constructive. We’re all reading it and referring to it in team discussions.
As we said in the AMA, our top internal priorities have been population balance and rewards. From this thread, your top five priorities are, in order:
1. Stability & skill balance
2. Fix or revert DBL
3. Rewards

5. ScoringYes, we will take the feedback and make stability, general skill balance, and fixing/reverting DBL our top priorities. We’re not currently working on scoring and that has to be a longer-term project.
Karl is working specifically on WvW-focused skill balance. He’s looking for the wins for WvW that don’t screw the rest of the game.
We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.
I want to reiterate that everything we work on either ships in April or starts beta-testing on Live servers in April. We’re locking down dev work for the April release soon — next up is localization, QA, integration and regression testing — but we’ll extend the deadline for WvW skill balance.
There is one thing that doesn’t need to get wrapped up into the April release: Friday night resets. That doesn’t require a Live build. We’ll do it.

I think this is a questionable change, but on the other hand I am wondering why people didn’t use their “thousands of badges” to get what they needed especially since badges have little other use than that one daily. It makes sense if you feel you can’t grind badges to get it, but otherwise with preexisting badges? With badges becoming an increasingly devalued currency and also found via achievement chests, I think it would only be practical to buy it in case.
I have an unused Gift of Battle from years ago, because I think they announced some changes to badges even though I haven’t bothered making a legendary.
My personal opinion is there should be a substitute for the gift of battle (maybe a mastery in pve could be done as much), since there are substitutes for pve in WvW via heroics and it could involve those badges.

Both methods can’t exist for exactly the reason you’re stating.
It’s like saying here’s this new legendary armor and instead of making you do stuff for it, we’re going to give it to you for all the stuff you already have. Which doesn’t make sense, because the idea of things like legendary armors is to keep people playing.
Too many people have too many badges, even from achievement chests, to make that a viable way to keep people playing.
Why do you think each zone now has it’s own currency moving forward. So you can’t get it with existing currencies. If you want the stuff, you play the content.
You want something from VB, play VB. If Anet wanted people to get stuff easily they’d simply have left everything karma.

To help reduce general gold-to-gem-conversion inflation add a small percentage tax fee to conversions if a player exceeds a certain high total amount in conversions within a week. This would reduce conversions from high volume converters to help deflate prices for other players.
What do players think about this tax fee for conversions?

Haha u can solo cap some camps and slay some veterans and u have the 195 pints then u need to kill 1veteran every 10minutes and you get maximum track points where is the efford and need to be on a good server?

Well i dont say there arent players hit by this change. But most of the players complaining come frome pve and they have earned wvw badges only through ap chests. And when u have about 10k ap you only had to enter wvw to claim their gob. And for these players i dont feel pity, like they dont do for me having to do exploration/dungeons (before the reward tracks)
If a player worked for it they worked for it, you don’t diminish the efforts.
Players are players, and it doesn matter if they are new or veteran, the issue is removal of an option.

I dont understand the whining in this thread. Legendarys shouldnt be built in 2days or so. And it should be a reward to play all the game modes. I mean wvw players could also ask why you need map completion to get an legy?. The efford for gob ist about 15hours of playing wvw. Compared to the other stuff it is nothing. So i think its fine that you need to play wvw. I mean for wvw players nothing changed and it hits only people ignoring 1 part of the game because anet gave them all badges they need for free with introduction of the ap boxes. I remember the time when u had to farm the 500 badges on your own and it was definetely more time spent than doing 1reward track

I’m all for options for “stuff” and have complained enough about the lack said options si I agree with you.
Don’t single out the “pve” crowd here, all sorts of players go for legendaries.
Not real on board with this change, it has essentially time gated a portion of the legendary now.
Before the patch if I had a precursor drop I could check my bank, make a gift of fortune, hop into WvW get my gift of battle, throw it in the forge with my gifts of exploration etc and do the other stuff in a day or two. Time to make a legendary isn’t too long if you already had the gifts of exploration (to which you get 2 per completion).
Now after the patch it takes several hours to get a gift of battle that I could have bought with my 2.5k badges while also preventing my progress on getting other reward tracks.
Before you ask why my badges are only 2.5k, I made a load of golems, siege and grabbed badges of tribute for my guild to make upgrades. I’m gold rank so not exactly jumping into WvW because I have to either.
This is a bad change, had I even known about this I would have bought 2 for the 2 precursors sitting in my bank and made the gifts of mastery.
Yeah, and just wait until players need 6 GoB for legendary armors…
I’m sitting on 25k badges now just waiting and this will bother me to no end if I have to grind the track over and over and over and over and over and over… Especially if we get bunk linkings and poor match ups.
I’m honestly not a fan of the “player surprise” Reddit posts when it comes to stuff like this. HoT has been ground out for 8 months now, and so have raids, but players have been left directionless when it comes to legendary armor.
Given the above, I think it would be nice to know what to prepare for and achieve as far as materials are concerned. So can we make this happen?
Edit- This is a pretty hefty list of stuff below if true. If we are going to x6 stuff this will be quite a feat in addition to the time of doing raids. Gift of Battle vendor was also removed so that means reward track x6 in wvw… Most of these items could have been known to players so they could have spent the past 8 months preparing.

Please revert the change and allow us to purchase the gift of battle from vendor with badges again. This change was totally unnecessary. Why force people to play wvw through this way? If you want ppl to play wvw, then make a change so desirable that people wants to play it. Not everyone is interested in wvw and not everyone will therefore read the patch notes under wvw.
First you stopped legendary development and now you make things harder for us. Good job ANET, you are losing players very quickly.

Agreed at least put the vendors back for a limited time. I’m sitting on tons of badges and have been working on other things like world completion for my legendary. Now I suddenly have to go back to grinding a WvW reward track for a part that I had already completed.
I love WvW and spend most of my time there, so it won’t take long but having this as an unannounced change sucks. Let those of us with the badges buy the gift for another week or 2 then remove the vendors.
Not a limited time, back to the way it was. There is more than enough grind in the game and the 500 badges was enough really.

I think a good compromise to real life events and social justice would be having flags at half mast. That was a great idea Cobra. It shows support without having to make it obvious. No need for press releases. No explanations. Just something in game that shows someone cares, and players who see it can make their own conclusions as to what it means. Sorta like how we find Easter Eggs that Devs put in, and we only find out about them 3 years later.
The best compromise from Anet to players is to leave all issues behind at log in.

There are posters who have been greatly insulted by these types of threads, myself included with your previous thread about mental health stuff… There are thousands of topics around the world to discuss and thousands of tragic events that have taken place, so please use the appropriate mediums to get involved and show your support.
Over the course of GW2 lifetime there have been a plethora of hurtful and awful world events, each one is truly painful and tragic. Please stop meddling into issues you don’t know about and please start to learn from player comments in your previous threads.

Actually…a system that allows All Lower Worlds to attack All the Upper Worlds…would be a simpler solution.

It’s called megaserver and enough maps to host the entire wvw population.
The origins of WvW/RvR started with DAoC, and the predecessor to that game is in development. They are using a 3 sided faction and 1 world map without queues. Total sandbox war… 3 sided is how it’s done, that’s how ESO does it as well… There is no reinventing the RvR wheel here Diku. You put all pvp players into one space, not spread them out like we have here because it causes problems like we have here…
Either Anet gets on board with megaserver realms or wvw will be empty in the future. Even your own idea is megaserver-like, because it potentially combines players from all over… Simple and elegant is a 3 sided faction war on 1 map or connected maps, all else will fail here, but the devs won’t put in the proper resources to make that happen because PvE is more important to them at this time…
All this linking stuff is not sustainable for the long run, neither is tossing some rewards and calling at a wrap. Things will only change when WvW is taken as seriously as PvE.

Wow ….. quite a few people complained that they did not like the other map because you couldn’t blob and have massive fights ……. Now we have people complaining about blobs?

Yeah, squads which encourage blobs hurt wvw for sure. It’s beyond me why they are in wvw blobbing away. Do they think blobbing on 4 huge maps, designed for hundreds of players to fight on, is the correct playstyle? It’s not like the devs wanted an epic war zone or anything with massive player battles…
What I can’t comprehend is how people think more frequent linking is going to result is fresh match-ups in NA?
Many voted for 1 month to because the shorter the linking time, the less we’d see temporary bandwagoning to the bottom servers that are linked with the very top ones.
And that also means we get to balanced pairings sooner, but that’s what most don’t understand.
The faster we balance the less we have to balance over time and things can settle.
The takeaway from all this is that the terms and conditions of the polls need to be stated clearly and unequivocally at the time the poll is set. For all the arguing here over logic and math and statistics the plain fact is that the poll ran with no specified framework given for how the result would be interpreted or implemented.
I think it is entirely reasonable for ANet to run polls in order to gauge interest and feeling on a particular topic and then use the information gained as part of their internal decision-making process, which is what appears to have happened here. What isn’t reasonable is to run a series of polls, some of which have “hard” results that are implemented even against the preference of the people responsible for drafting them and others which have “soft” results that can be finessed, without making it very clear which is which.
I voted for one month. I’d have voted for one week if it had been an option. That said, I don’t think bimonthly is a bad compromise. I do think the polls need to be much more coherently drafted and explained in future, though. And we are certainly having too many, too close together and on some decisions that are too low-level to merit a referendum.
Personally I don’t believe WvW can be “fixed” in its current form no matter how many polls we have. It would probably be better to scrap the entire game mode and start afresh.

Spent this time in a complete blow out and the devs are telling us “wait longer until we figure it out”… I’m not voting anymore because wvw is going down the lost cause path, it’s akin to the CDI threads that didn’t go anywhere except to say “we care about your feedback”, but nothing is put into motion.
I reckon spiders should have their F2s become ground targeted attacks that the player can aim to give them more versatility, perhaps even doing the same with the Wyverns would make their F2s more appealing..
How about we greatly speed up all f2 attacks so they actually hit instead?

You purpose of the poll was to get the opinions of the playerbase in a form of data that could easily be interpreted. It was not an election or referendum.
You are suggesting that anet act without nuance or flexibility which is a terrible idea.
It was not stated to be an “opinion poll”, that’s you assuming more stuff. Anet changed their mind after they saw the poll results for their own reason, which was contrary to the actual winning vote.
Previous polls were determined by a needed “super vote” of 75%. It was clearly stated by Tyler that this poll did not require a super vote, nor did they say they were going to average votes to determine winner…
Since you like to ignore facts… On the voting page it clearly stated that the benefit of linking more frequently would produce more balanced matches… The page is now gone, but a dev can swoop on here to verify the precise wording.
WvW is still very unbalanced, and all this 2 month time frame does is keep those unbalanced matches longer. If you haven’t noticed, most matches are already determined in the first day or two… Now you tell those players to enjoy their blow out and unbalanced match up, they have zero chance of winning, for 2 months instead of 1…
All this is doing is prolonging more even pairings unnecessarily. The rational minded thing to do would be to reach a state of balance faster, then reevaluate frequency once things are more even and settled.
Linking was voted in as a feature to bring balance, slowing down that achievement of balance is bad considering the poor state wvw is in right now…
You can defend and spin doctor this decision all you want, but players will vote by other means and you will find yourself begging for Anet to save wvw when players are bailing out of wvw in the near future…
Hope the devs make some flawless pairing on the 24th or they are going to have some very annoyed players on their hands again.

You act as if lower tiers were deigned for super ultra veterans that carry the wvw game mode… Lower tiers are just less populated servers, not some elite group of players deserving their own maps to duel on.

The bottom of a complex Ecosystem…and not the idea that the lower tier’s community was without any life.
The bottom tier was full of life…just on a different scale & time frame than the upper tiers.
Much like an ocean…the upper part is filled with fast moving life, but that changes when you go into very deep water.
The life is there, but is often completely different.
Personally…I’m not an expert on all the WvW maps & mechanics, but I’m very comfortable with my opinion on what I think works.
You believe what you will…that’s your right to. So please go ahead and enjoy being an expert on all matters you survey…just stop blowing smoke up my…chimney.

You’re the one portraying that the lower servers are some superior “ecosystems” of veterans that are basically suffering and being destroyed due to linking… No, those players are on emptier servers because wvw was dying and Anet finally made the right decision to start alliances. Linking was a necessity, and it improved overall population numbers temporarily.
Maybe you and a few others want emptier servers, but the majority don’t and that’s pretty clear by the numbers. No individual server or guild or player… is more important that wvw as a whole.
The fact that you keep pushing to quintuple maps on dying populations shows me you don’t really understand what makes up the core of a good rvr experience… That “core” is maps with lots of players on them.

This Veteran Community is the source behind your large base of noob players that eventually leave their humble beginnings to fly to the bright lights of the Upper Tiers…imho
The Fixed 3 Way Fight Model will continue to Server Stack Players as a naturally as a flame attracts moths, or water flowing downhill…imho
This very basic player motivation is generally well known & observered from my viewpoint.
ANet just has to work harder & faster to manipulate the illusion that Population & Match-Ups are Fair & Balanced…imho

You obvioisly don’t understand that all wvw maps across all servers were designed to be a mass pvp experience, not a personal guild playground for 20v20v20.
If wvw was good, and servers were full as anticipated, then we wouldn’t need to link right?

The goal of linking was to achieve better population balance. The more frequently linking occurs the faster we get to those balanced populations.
I believe they should have tried 1 month, 2 month and 3 month over the last few months to see what the players liked better.
I think it is too early to ask players what they think because we don’t really know all the effects such as breaking up communities that have grown together or guilds that have formed over multiple servers. Is that more important to the player base than balance… we still don’t know.
Guild members can’t play together unless they are on the same or linked server. These linkings were never set in stone either, so the “anet is breaking up our loving relationship” excuse is not valid.
Server friends can play together regardless, so players need to be less dramatic about linking.
No, I don’t feel bad for players unwilling to transfer to open servers and join their guild or friends.
The #1 problem in wvw is unbalanced populations, so nothing else with wvw will be resolved until this is fixed as much as possible…

Majority is the greatest number of votes with at least 50%. Plurality is the greatest number of votes with less than 50% which is also known as a Simple Majority. As ANet didn’t specify the rules for this “election” nobody except them can interpret the results as it pertains to actual game changes.
To recap, 62% of the players voting in the poll wanted more than 1 month which means the majority of voters wanted more than one month. The majority of voters also wanted less than three months but just barely with 54%. See what I did there… I used math to count votes in an opinion poll. Anet came to the same conclusion which is very obvious.
To further the point, the median is two months and the mean is 9-ish weeks.
My guess is the next poll will have a giant disclaimer on it explaining that this is an opinion poll and any game changes remain at ANet’s descretion.

That was even stated in the benefits to linking more often… Unbalanced populations between servers is the #1 issue with wvw, so this bimonthly linking rate only servers to prolong that core problem.
The smart thing to do is link more frequently now to get to a better place sooner than later. Less frequent likings can be made when numbers are looking better.
Faster population balance > pandering to the “median”.
Very poor judgment call on anets part to double the time it takes to even things out better.
