They can reboot the maps, but they can’t reboot the players now. It’s going to take the “mother load” update with all the bells and whistles to make players come back or care.

Why did the devs not wait to drop these maps until they were completely finished with all the other behind the scenes work going on with wvw?

Really, why?

It does not make any sense to put in 1/4 of a planned update AT ALL. Look at all the controversy, infighting, infractions, bad tastes in the mouth… doing this has caused…

This 1/4 “drop and hope” experimentation can be seen across the game. Look at “raids”, or should I say “raid”. There is a small map with three bosses designed specifically for “time gating” until you code more in, not for fun. Legendary armor IS a big deal and THE premier reward, yet we don’t even have a simple preview…

Look at how ascended was pieced in…

Look at how this and that was pieced in…

Look at how all these things get pieced in and end up never being fully finished or just outright changed…

Development and implementation here appears to be very very very disorganized, more so than any other game I have come across. While it’s nice that anet is flexible in ways, it would also be nice to have a “fuller” and more finished product to play with from the get go… All of us are amenable to any big or small changes for the better, but to be given 1/4 of a product to play at times is not good.

So again, why maps right now with the rest in the works?

Yep, it looks like GW1 Flare with it’s Aftercast effect now.

Restore the Fireball back to it’s glory, also the Eruption must be restored, it’s like a small fart bubble popping out of sand, than a destructive eruption…

Instead of making effect reductions via patches, make a Graphics options instead, more viable solution than permanent graphical nerfs!

Add options that are good for ESports, if this was done in favor of it, why the heck make permanent uncontrollable changes, when you could have added GRAPHICS OPTIONS!!!

We have a “Effect LOD” in Graphics Options, BUT IT DOESN’T EVEN WORK! (I’ve been using it in the past and visual clutter was always the same with no changes) WTF ANet!!?!?

I believe anet is trying to match animations with damage output as much as they can…

1- you can’t screw over a sever selfishly just because wvw is failing.

2- server merges imply loss of players to everyone and shows signs of distress to stockholders.

It’s time. The meta is shifting. There are a ton more gear stats. Spvp gets a preview at the end of the match. We’ve been in the dark far too long…

I know, I know, I have posted recently about not caring about the numbers too much and am focusing more on having fun, but part of the reason for that is I just stopped caring about the mess of numbers all around… And ok, I can use a build designer too, but those are numbers on a website… I could stand at a training dummy and do some maths, but I’m not. I’m a simple and regular person who’s not going to look at the matrix of numbers and sort them out in or out of game, when a support tool like a personal heal/dps meter can be made in a few weeks…

We need some transparency and we need to have some personal numbers to look at. There is not any valid reason at this point why the team can’t work on opening up the “path” for people to make an app for it. It’s to the point were I could care less if you all designed it for us and sold it on the gem store as a game upgrade. Something…

I’m sure there are lots of tools/programs that exist for you all to use for these purposes, so could you all start sharing the number love already?

I said it’s the same stats. It’s cheap enough to convert ascended armor now. We’ve had the same stuff since launch. Ascended weapons are beyond a lot of very casual players (apparently), but low and behold, they have the same stats.

Since you can now easily and relatively cheaply switch stats on ascended gear anyway, yeah, no big deal.

Yet, it’s still THE end game gear…

Then do the end game content xD

There have always been items in this game locked behind a certain specific content. There were plenty of PvE items, including legendary weapons, and if a PvPer wanted them they had to PvE.

There are armor sets and mins you can only get from PvP.

Fractal weapon skins are only available from Fractals. Don’t play Fractals don’t get the skins. There’s plenty of precedent for this in the game already that’s been around for years.

Hard to try to sell me now on you can’t have a skin locked behind content.

Hell, if you live in Australia and your connection wasn’t good enough to do Liadri, you can’t get the Liadri mini.

When they give me that mini another way, you might have a point about fashion wars. But they haven’t, and you don’t.

I don’t think we care what other things are locked behind where and why. We are taking about not liking this locked behind that.

… one specific tier of gear, in this case the top tier, is gated behind one specific content, namely Raids.

After 10years we went from “endgame is what you make out of it”, something a huge chunk of the community was very proud of, cause it was nearly a unique feature in MMO´s, to “endgame is Raids”.

Do you think it’s possible that the raid “experiment” here is the tier one precursor design for the legendary Raid Wars 3?

I would like to mention that megaservers, ultraoneworldsuperservers, mass alliance/faction wars… are not new design concepts. These are things that other games have implemented and are using already. This is not 1990 anymore. Some of you seem to think we live in the digital dark ages where things like these are out of the realm of possibility to do or figure out.

Colin just confirmed there has been work going on behind the scenes for wvw for a YEAR now, and that all the engineers are still slaving away on wvw stuff as we speak…

Thank you for the fair and reasonable commentary. It’s an indication I need to step away for a few days and detach.

I’ve been a staunch supporter of various changes anet has implemented recently. To the point of pollyanna-ism, glass is half full, it’s not so bad.

I just cannot stomache this particular proposal (not yours, I’ll have to go and think about yours), because I can see how it will further segregate instead of being inclusive.

Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to type that all out. I’ll go chew on it.

And your solution to “ask” every single current and potential wvw player and guild to “spread out” is not any solution like you envision…

You basically talk about megaserver/alliance like it would destroy communities, YET you want to “spread out” players which COMPLETELY REMOVES them from THEIR home server communities where they have to “build up” again (which is a gripe of yours)… All in an effort to mathematically even out every server for competition…

Your other gripe has been the issue of “playing with strangers” essentially, but you want to resettle players to fight SOLELY for strangers on a “strange” server just so those competition numbers are equal… You talk about “server loyalty”, yet you want certain players/guilds to remove themselves from THEIR loyal server community family and move them into a completely different server community family…

In essence, YOUR suggestion would push established server communities apart as opposed to bringing them together even more. Your suggestion dissolves what’s left of “server loyalty” even more because you remove players from their original server to fighting for 1, and only 1, COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SERVER… ALL this headache, shuffling, reshuffling, identity loss… just so you can have even numbers.

Your suggestion is neither logical or logistically possibility, and only severs to destroy communities and relationships even more… That’s the fundamental flaw with your thinking and your idea…

The rational thing to do is to NOT destroy or touch servers at all, but to take all the people who are interested in wvw and pool them together in some way, like eotm does, for competition purposes. This megaserver wvw and/or alliances “thingy” works because it brings more like minded players TOGETHER for competition without destroying home server families…

Individual server vs individual server vs individual server here is not and does not work period. Neither does your resettlement program… The BEST idea for THIS game is to take megaserver “clumps” or guild “clumps”, like eotm does, and put them against all the other “clumps”… Doing so will not destroy individual server identity or pride or loyalty…, it will create a “NATO” effect instead… So the mentality of the mega/guild “clumps” becomes “you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us”…

Honestly, you taking a step back to think about what you are fighting against is best because what YOU (and a select few) want, WILL dissolve communities and servers even more… Your segregation and resettlement ideas creates more identity loss and a lot of needless headaches… Plus, it is NOT possible to ask players to move willingly or have the devs force a move. Your ideas are DOA. They are not plausible or possible in any way, shape or form.

Edit- And even IF the devs attempted to do a “spread out and resettle just for wvw and the spirit of competition” initiative, they better hand out full sets of legendary light, medium and heavy armor, a full compliment of legendary weapons, legendary back piece, amulet, trinkets, rings, runes, sigils, infusions and unlimited use consumables… in order to get any substantial numbers to budge…

Edit 2- I’m fully aware that there will be “growing pains” and “ego clashes” among potential commanders and guilds and players with mega/alliance stuff, but those issues are far far far smaller than what we have now. And even if players and guilds did move to make every server perfectly even, you would still have those pains and clashes on top of ALL the other negatives and drawbacks I mentioned…

True leaders lead from the front, not behind. I think there needs to be a change in mentality from the top to make this happen. If the top would focus more on supporting their development team properly to help produce better stuff for us customers, then they would naturally see bigger green numbers on their monthly and quarters reports… If this were to happen, then everybody wins right?

Actually, the best leaders lead from the back. You did mention one key aspect of a good leader, and that is supporting their people. A leaders true goal and responsibility should be serving those under them in order to achieve the task, what ever it may be.
This is coming from 4 years of advanced leadership training, as well as nearly 10 years of actual leadership experience. (Of course this being the internet, that doesn’t really mean much). But even doing a cursory search of what a great leader is, and you’ll find the servant leadership model is the most effective and most successful.

We are saying the same thing basically. A leader that is truly involved, engaged and with their finger on the pulse, not someone who merely dictates.

Edit- lead by example might be a better way for us to put this. I tend to feel the best leaders are not afraid to get in there when needed, but of course someone needs to observe and guide.

If they improve chest offering to have more sought after items type items, sales would boost in keys naturally.

This implies that sales are bad. Evidence (in the form of the prices for low-demand items that drop from the chests) suggest that keys remain popular.

Currently, though, these boxes have a negative reputation for not being worth their weight and wealth in keys at all so there is little argument there. These chests need a revamp period, and there is nothing wrong with this request that would ultimately give these chests a better reputation and increase key sales because of having an improved selection of items inside.

They are designed to not be worth their weight. They are lotto tickets, not “bundles of cool stuff”. They are meant to be mostly consolation prizes with a tiny chance of high-value items.

And again, that seems sufficient: key sales are (apparently) quite health.


Full disclaimer: I never buy keys; they aren’t worth it to me. My argument is that this particular offering is successfully working as intended. People want to see something else offered on the TP (and that might be a good idea, too), but that isn’t what BL keys/chests are intended to be.

I made no such implication about good or bad sales… I merely stated that sales would increase…

If “they are not designed to be worth their weight” then that’s my fundamental issue and that’s why I brought up this topic.

You don’t buy keys because you don’t find them worth it, yet you are rallying for them to stay the same… And if they made them worth it like I’m suggesting, you (and others) would buy them, thus boosting sales and generating more revenue… And I’m sure many players feel the same that’s why I mentioned the current reputation of the chests in their current form…

Sure, working as intended, I’m suggesting to change that design intent so they can boost sales and players are much happier with what they get from rng inside…

And as a consumer, you should want to have a better value for your dollar and every other players dollars as well…

Edit- additionally, if this were my company and my primary source of income was through a gem store, I would make it a point to always leave a good feeling on the player for their purchases.

I’m just providing some feedback. There are some neat aspects to necro and I am interested to have one of each profession, so I’m sharing some thoughts.

I like this game, but have grown kind of bored with certain things and decided it was time to level up and play some other professions to liven things up. When I got to necro (and warrior) however, it seemed all the profession “fun” I was having had stopped.

I think it’s important to share how things “feel” when playing. All too often I think the devs and players get wrapped up in numbers and forget about “fun”. Colin likes to ask himself “is it fun?”, so I’ve been following that lead by asking myself “is it fun?” with regard to many aspects of the game.

Consistent and stagnant matchups up the current system are no better.

This was more of an NA issue than EU. We didn’t have those problems in EU really. And the reason for that is because players took the initiative to spread out for the fights instead of stacking a few servers. I kept hoping NA would do this, and they started to, but then this stuff emerged.

The consequence is some guilds might back down a little, but maintaining tag control over their own server would keep them relevant and if they do well, potentially bring some stragglers along for the ride.

No sadly it’s a bit more dire than that. Guesting is capped, and given the history of players stacking in NA, that means that it’s a crap shoot what map you get each week if you miss a reset. I don’t think people are understanding that.

There’s no bottomless guesting map. There’s no bottomless home map either. It will have a cap and once capped, it’s locked.

So either you join another campaign, or you sit out the week and try the next week to get a good “spot.”

As for guesting itself. Oh gee, can ya’ll see how that will be gamed?

I don’t think you’re reading what I’m writing, here. I disagree entirely with the notion of “joining” any kind of system. I disagree with guesting or whatever you’re referring to in any such system as well.

What I am stating is that explicit server vs server match-ups as we have exactly right now at this moment are getting the format nowhere and are ultimately responsible for a lot of the problems that are currently plaguing the format, such as night-capping, transfers, and stagnant matches. These are the results of communities stacking knowing fully well the mechanics of the game eventually lead to stagnation by glicko’s PPT balance and the subsequent demoralization of players, leading to population imbalances. Since glicko is slow and does its best to balance everything game-wide, it can’t account for discrepancies within match-ups to create a more fun experience. Less fun means less interest to play which means less people playing which means less development focus and population imbalance problems, which leads back to less fun.

In EU it’s not as pronounced as NA, either, because the fear of night-capping is lessened due to the closer proximity to pacific players. When you’re against a server which is primarily lead by Oceanic/Asian players in NA, you’re looking at what is literally opposite time-cycles. The matches are boring because nothing happens, but glicko considers them balanced because each server ticks opposite the other.

Players should not be allowed to pick their server assignments except for when starting out or unless they pay gems to transfer permanently. The notion of “picking” a side would lead to stacking and is entirely contrary to what my post entails. Recall my post mentions smarter balancing systems paired with mutations and random seeding to create new match-ups very frequently, and since servers can be distributed to each alliance unevenly, this can create completely new and foreign scenarios. This fixes night-capping and outnumbered/transfer-out server problems for the entire format holistically; Asian players are feeling just as bad for the NA servers “night-capping” them or subsequently missing out on all the action. There’s therefore no way to resolve this properly and fairly for all players except to pool them together, and do so with smarter and more dynamic systems with a slight twist of randomness.

A lot of people in NA move not because they want to stack servers but because they want to fight, and I imagine a lot of EU are hesitant to move because of language barriers between servers. This is the truth when dealing with a bigger timezone variance and a unified language. Keeping server integrity is important to maintain sub-communities speaking a common tongue and having cultural relationships align. I recognize this. But claiming that no shared “alliance”-or-whatever terminology is an inferior solution or not a solution simply reeks of bias without looking at the greater system.

My initial feelings on necro

There are a lot of things we can look at, and a lot of neat aspects to necro, but from a certain standpoint it feels very blah to me.

From a total package standpoint for example, the ele and necro feel worlds apart in the “fun” category for me and I didn’t even like one weapon design of ele before tempest… The tempest is great for me because I’ve been dying to play a “truer” healing and support role in this game, but pound for pound the ele “feels” far far far more fun to play for me…

Once again necro has its merits and honorable mentions for sure, but my gosh, it feels so awfully slow and is so uninspiring to play…

I personally feel that the following (partial) list of things are some of the worst tortures the devs could do to me in this game…

Force me to play necro and warrior 90% of the time.

Force me to heal on my druid.

Force me to only pve on my thief.

Force me to listen to the pony bow sound.

Force me to listen to ele warhorn farty sounds.

I would rather be forced to quadruple click to open every bag in a bag in a bag than to be made to do the above…

I will also say this…

Tight knit studios like the old guild wars 1 arenanet and paragon studious, who worked on city of heroes, really created some absolutely amazing awesome things… Both the old anet and paragon studious were far from perfect, but you could see much more blood, sweat and tears flowing from the top, and that helped inspire the rest of the soldiers…

True leaders lead from the front, not behind. I think there needs to be a change in mentality from the top to make this happen. If the top would focus more on supporting their development team properly to help produce better stuff for us customers, then they would naturally see bigger green numbers on their monthly and quarters reports… If this were to happen, then everybody wins right?

The disorganization, quarter finished “things” and lack of direction can clearly be seen in patch being implemented…

Look at these things…

An ultra mini raid path with bosses designed take up 200 hours for most to figure out how to beat… The raid is designed as a “keep them busy until we get more made” gate, not a “we want players to have fun” gate.

No dungeon staff now…

A single new wvw map while they play catch up with all the other systems…

Only 3 legendaries… 3. That’s an average of 1 per year so far…

Announced legendary armor with raids but no legendary armor in game. Not even a preview…

You can’t color back pieces and weapons…

A single infusion with an aura…

Meaningful core profession and combat mechanics development are nonexistent, and updates consist of tooltip fixes, below minor number tweeks and nothing else substantial. I’m honestly amazed we got these elite specializations…

Patch notes don’t lie people, and those reviews are much closer to the “truths”. This game needs to be steered on a better course and the devs need to be allowed to create fully finished “products”. They should also hire more contracted staff until certain projects are complete, instead of doing things like pulling teams of engineers to one project while ten other projects gather dust and ultimately never see the light of day…

It’s getting to the “unacceptable” point now. This is a modern game that prides itself on aesthetics, yet we have all this mismatched stuf tossed in and you can’t color back pieces and parts of weapons… It’s beyond sad. It’s even more sad to not have a choice in the matter…

Is it not in the realm of digital possibilities to offer all items with individual base color palates? Ya know, a blackish one, a greenish one, a blueish one, a reddish one, a yellowish one… and so on???

Stuff like this really makes you question where development dollars go…

Where you see a negative I see a positive.

If the company you worked for hired 50 new people for your department you have a few choices…

You could either complain there are too many people you don’t know now working with you, or you could embrace the new people and become a better team through team work.

You all take team work pretty seriously in wvw judging by posts, so you could either continue to be a team player or choose to alienate new people and new teams of players.

It will require more team work and open minds from veterans like you to save wvw, but that choice is yours…

On a tier one server.

Yes, wvw was effectively dead in this game after last tournament. It was and is a soulless and neglected husk. You cannot sit there and say that wvw as a whole was healthy and thriving on every server, and that match ups and ranking we’re not on the more predictable side…

You can’t look at things on your server and assume all is well. You have to look at the big picture…

You can’t even answer a simple question of what server you are from? I didn’t ask which tier you were in.

Also I suggest you go read some of the pvp and pve forums.. Lots of players that have been around for a long time are not happy with the direction anet is going with this game.

My reply was sufficient. It doesn’t matter what server I’m on, what really matters is that I’m on a tier one server, experienced tier one wvw and can still see the major problems and flaws with all things wvw currently.

I understand some are not happy and that is their right, but there are also a lot of players who would welcome new systems like these. Let’s not forget there are also established guilds and guild affiliations that may find guild alliance wars attractive.

Regardless, segregated wvw/rvr servers are very much year 2000 thinking and design. . GW2 has to break out of the past and get with the present.

The server system really is horrible and has been since day 1. With the exception of good luck and some score fixing most matches are typically lopsided PvD fests with a small glimmer of good fights that most of us cling to like a crack addict looking for their next fix.

At this point in WvW most players are tired of the same meaningless system, redundant off hour PvD and unbalanced zerg fights. IMO an alliance system is worth a go if the devs are actually coding something like this. Without a significant change in the game mode, WvW will continue to die off and become a ghost town like so many games before it.

I don’t know when that tipping point will be reached but if nothing changes one day soon players will log in and there will be a dozen players during NA Prime on a T1 server and that will be considered a zerg.

Yup.

I kinda hoped that the devs would have megaservered wvw shortly after they dropped eotm. Oh well, guess it’s time to play catch up.

I also think that the devs really should go over professions with a fine tooth comb, but we will see how seriously they take those every 3 month balance updates being promised…

I kind of understand where you are coming from Swagger. My first Necromancer was a Norn and I was using a staff, so it felt like I was running through mud. I remade the necro as a human and started using a Axe/Dagger as my main weapons and it feels faster and there is a 25% Signet that helps the run speed. Now just a observation the Necromancer compared to my Mesmer and Tempest feels slow. I do not know why it feels so dramatic but sometimes it feels like you are running up hill, in a storm on ice with no shoes in the dark. I think the devs should take a look across all the professions, but to be honest, I do not think they have it high on the list. So when I need a speed boost/fix I grab my Tempest. Lets hope they notice and tweak the speed .

I pretty much feel the same way and think some minor tweaks could make it “feel” better. I’ll mess with it more and try to narrow down some specific suggestions, but as of right now the necro plays like your description. There was nothing about it that made me feel any excitement except for the reaper shroud abilities. And the reaper shroud skills only seem to highlight the sluggishness with the rest of necro even more.

I’ve been bored and “fast” leveling characters to 80 lately so I just wanted to throw out my initial impressions of the necro. I was going to do a general overview of my personal feelings and personal rankings of all professions based off of “fun” factor, some qol type stuff like mobility, condition management, what game mode I felt each profession was more enjoyable to play in… but I feel compelled to get some necro thoughts off my chest…

I’m at a point where I could care less about number “stuffz”, but I do pay attention some. I also care less about “this and that” super ultra meta builds. So now that you all know where I basically stand, I want to say this…

Necro feels so absolutely boring and absolutely sluggish to play. Thank goodness I unlocked the reaper today, because at least reaper shroud abilities feel fun, fast and responsive… Everything outside of reaper shroud felt like getting teeth pulled very very ssslllooowwwlllyyy… Sure, there are some normal feeling attacks and abilities, but as a whole for me, necro ranked up there next to warrior in the “boring as all get out to play” category. Like I said, I do not care about numbers too much or meta stuff, but this profession just “feels” meh.

I will not understand how (in such a fast paced and movement heavy oriented game where some professions have access to multiple movement skills) the devs would think it’s fun to design such a sluggish feeling and mobility deficient profession…

I was thoroughly bored out of my mind today while running around VB grabbing hero points… I sincerely hope the next elite has some on demand movement skills put in to the weapon and skills.

Right now I have one level 80 of each profession except engineer (didn’t even make one yet), but based off of “fun” factor for me, necro will be “extra storage space” until I have to do a HP run for the next elite. I know some of you love necro and that’s great, I’m happy if you find it and the play style fun. For me, I’d rather watch paint dry as opposed to feeling like I’m playing in slow motion.

Dumping Druid for Tempest

Ele water/tempest is a far better healer and more capable than ranger/druid at “bringing heavy healing to GW2” and it is more suited to “sustain a zerg train of 20-30 players in WvW.”…

I personally do not care about what dps buff ranger/druid brings to paper, stationary bosses or against training dummies, I care about being about to heal moving masses of players without having to mess around with AF gimmicks, almost worthless mini healing beams and the all reticle heal design that misses most moving targets. I’m still learning ele, but it’s far superior at protecting players as well. So probably pound for pound, ele is doing more to keep the dps numbers flowing because players are dying less. That’s something to consider outside of your immobile and scripted encounter numbers.

Hands down the druid cannot compete to the overall healing capabilities that ele offers. I’m running round in a “ghetto” healing build and popping off more green numbers and keeping peeps up than any of the druids in the pack.

And those quotes were used to describe druid healer at twitchcon. I want that healer, not the one we have now and not the one with all the AF gating gimmicks, timed reticle aim healing and awful for healing and support staff.

Edit- I would pay 100k gems to have a personal use dps and heal meter right now. I guarantee the druid would be inferior to ele in every aspect when all the numbers are combined and put on the table.

Edit 2- Plus, I’m pulling off tons of damage numbers and have access to on demand heals when I need them. Best of all, I’m smoothly doing both damage and healing roles while hardly breaking a sweat. I also spend more time with my eyes on the action not the combat or squad bar…

There is also another thing we all need to understand. These game developers and companies are not bitter and hated enemies… They communicate, network, idea share, meet, give lectures… They do learn from each other personally, professionally, by seeing game mechanics in place, by mistakes made, by sharing a certain amount information and stats… So it’s safe to assume the devs here have spoken to developers with megaserver alliances in place and gathered enough info to fit things in as best as possible within the framework of the game.

Regardless, on this particular topic, I do see the devs handling things well once most of the “pieces” are in place.

You don’t. Where WvW lacks or loses player loyalty, it is a problem of boredom.

There is no “make the masses” do anything in gaming. You encourage it, with fun that is addictive and inspires desire. That is how WvW became a thing to be argued in favor of by its fans.

When it is forced as in “make” someone do something, you have conditions like relentless grinding, time-gating for its own sake, and collective cognitive dissonance between company and customers where neither side can agree with the other’s mental image of the thing despite being able to see the other’s perspective clearly. All things that the silly GW2 Oath propagandized against. They are old mistakes all over again.

Those mistakes are the root of the GW2 complaint meta.

You are too focused on that one word. If you were to use it within the context of the rest of the post you’d realize I understand.

Additionally, it was a question for someone else to answer since they were talking about loyalty, but you answered it pretty well.

Well, Colin is right that PvP leagues and the tournament series is a fantastic marketing program. Especially at the scale they are rolling it out at, I have to imagine it’s one of if not their best marketing initiatives on a per-dollar basis.

The frustration, as best I can tell, is that it seems like A.Net is using marketing as a substitute for development when it comes to PvP, not as a complement. Launching a tournament for a buggy, unbalanced mess of a PvP game is still a windfall from a marketing and brand awareness standpoint, but it’s certainly not developing an e-sport.

I could not agree more with these statements.

There are obviously issues with graphics, minis, auras, effects… All inhabiting the same space so I’d suggest…

Improve your tech.

Create individual slider settings beyond what options we currently have.

You can’t forcefully limit the quality of “cool” animations and effects as a blanket change. Some of us are running 4-5k gaming rigs and we are tossing out matchsticks for fireballs?

It is sad to see that an old game like city of heroes had top quality animations, effects, impacts, crap tons of auras to use, the ability to color/dye your powers… Yet here we can’t even color back gear and weapons, minis disappear, 2000 gold night fury just disappears and we have some awful animations and power effects… For a game that prides itself of aesthetics and is a modern, this is a big shame. It clearly shows that money does not go back to fundamental things (like profession development and reinvestment too).

Also, while I appreciate the beauty of the “scenery”, the attention to detail in many areas, investments in voice actors for npcs in dark corners of the world, interesting events and the ton of temporary powers tossed around the game… It’s clear to see where most major cash investments go…

So honestly, while I can appreciate the frog playing a song on the guitar and all the extra fluff stuff to bring the world more to life, I’d much rather see things like the ranger sword get fixed, Druid get fixed completely, fireballs back on ele, secondary powers like travel powers/skills that put all professions on equal “footing”, revamps to conditions, stealth reworks so thief is not a one trick pony, traits that make sense, better rewards and reward systems…

Once something’s full, it’s full, and a new map/campaign is created. Meaning there was no reliable way to get into the same map as others — and most certainly if it’s guild controlled, those single/random/pugs will be left without the team they worked with the past three years.

So if ESO’s campaign/alliance system doesn’t work, what’s a good solution to merge WvW servers then?

I was personally happy with the server caps and letting the population readjust. Players had started to do that, but too many weren’t willing to wait a couple months to see its benefits.

Most of the current issues with WvW on GW2 are mechanical and easily fixed by Anet. Some simple changes would help get people back onto the maps, but unfortunately it’s not been responded to.

There was a massive loyal WvW following for GW2, mostly because nobody else out there had anything like it. And because of that and longevity Anet captured the loyalty of that part of the market. That’s incredibly hard to do, particularly with an MMO. Only legacy games like EQ1, EQ1, and WoW had managed that prior. People may have left to try out other games, but they always came back to GW2.

Now, I’m not so sure.

Ultimately the main problems HERE are segregated servers causing population disparities. These disparities do not produce a healthy wvw community as a whole.

Next set of problems are incentives to win and lack of meaningful rewards.

Next problem is that you can’t run meaningful and competitive tournaments if you have populations disparities because of segregated servers, zero incentives to win and lack of meaningful rewards.

Next problem is the devs obviously want guilds to be important, provide more reasons to be a part of a guild and to pull individuals and communities together through guilds.

There are MANY reasons why the rest of this game is mega/cross server, and it’s coming to a wvw zone near us.

Additionally, would it be possible to see some evidence that rvr there failed due to megaserver alliances as you state?

What simple mechanical changes would fill up every wvw instance across all servers?

Pure wvw and server loyalties are obviously not working here, so how do you make the masses loyal enough to participate in wvw consistently?

Most players want to walk away with something to show for effort, so what reward incentives and structures would you put in place to reward guilds, individual players and sides?

The “server identity” wvw design has obviously failed and we can see that in many ways. Wvw cannot thrive or grow with its current segregated format. Pve megaserver was needed. Spvp “megaserver” was needed. Eotm megaserver was needed. Wvw megaserver IS needed.

Can’t there be other stuff in there? There is an entire game filled with stuff as ideas to throw inside. A Bladed coat, chance at a prized runes or sigil, a few top quality foods or utility consumables, crystalline ore… whatever ya know, I’m just throwing things out at random… I could easily make a list of items that players are more likely to use than just toss back on the market to flood it even more. This current fluff stuff is already obtainable through the gemstone or tp if desired, there is no need to have players wasting money unnecessarily. And whatever is not currently there can be obtained when the gem store offers them again.

Again, the basic premise is that if someone wants some of those items they can just buy them off the gem store currently, wait for them to cycle back around or buy them on the TP. If my desire to buy these chests were instant repair canisters or crafting materials or mail carrier or plushy backpacks or minis or whatever… then I’d buy those directly at lesser cost comparatively…

If they improve chest offering to have more sought after items type items, sales would boost in keys naturally. Currently, though, these boxes have a negative reputation for not being worth their weight and wealth in keys at all so there is little argument there. These chests need a revamp period, and there is nothing wrong with this request that would ultimately give these chests a better reputation and increase key sales because of having an improved selection of items inside.

Ok. You’ve said what you’d like removed. And you’ve said put in a better selection.

But what? You should give examples otherwise I’m fine with a chance for a rare dye, a node worth 2-3 hundred gold or a mini pet.

Sure, we can discuss that.

Ascended mats would be better than those other mats.

Chance at a random bltc weapon skin.

Chance at game currency like laurels.

Chance at a “gift of” something

I didn’t put a lot of thought into it, but we could all take an hour and design better chest offerings right?

Probably. And probably that’s what you could have done first rather than just a thread saying take out this, this and this and put better stuff in. But not saying what the better stuff is to you. The devs don’t know what you consider better stuff until you tell them as it varies from person to person. The Devs could consider better stuff as adding another booster or getting 2 repair cylinders instead of one.

And ascended mats? If you mean something like more bloodstone dust, no thanks. I’ll take the crafting bags before that.

(And they do have a chance for a black lion weapon skin already. It’s a full ticket as a rare drop).

I had a bigger point to make about chests, so I really wasn’t interested in coming up with what to put in instead. Thanks.

Staff 2 Fire- increase radius.

Staff 4 Fire- widen the trail substantially.

Staff 2 Water- speed it up.

Scepter 2 Fire- speed it up. increase radius.

Scepter 3 Fire- direct target attack, not reticle aiming.
