Take control of what troops you are given and make something good happen right? Be helpful and supportive and build up a good community.

From the way you write I can see you are tremendously experienced, a passionate player and fully capable to take a whole zerg, even in a place like eotm, and do an amazing job. Right? I’m sure you could do an even more amazing job in a wvw setting with complete strangers… Right?

Well, I don’t fully know what is going on in the EU, but you did identify problems for us here on the other side. You put some thought into it and I fully support your idea and train of thought.

As you are saying, let’s see how it goes and how best to move forward overall. I can see us really putting our heads together to make wvw great again. You and I are halfway there now.

Too bad we are separated by this vast ocean, I would love for your mentoring in scouting and defending. And I’m sure there are great things like that I can share with you too. I’ve spent a lot of time with rvr and zone pvp stuff in other games and am pretty decent with wielding a commander tag when I take it seriously… Someday…

Jayne, I’m very confused by your comments. You ARE supportive of the megaserver idea, started a thread discussing megaserver implementation options and ended with “and over time we can see which idea is more robust”.

I support your idea fully btw. I think you are definitely putting more thought into it and on the right track now. I’ll take your 50% and compromise with you for sure.

Ultimately you still have your server but now with an alliance server, fuller and more balanced maps, regular tournaments that start off even that can be hosted regularly…

That would be a mess. If the servers you’re combining already have a stacked time (OCX, NA etc) they’ll have even a longer queue to get on EB.

In this case the devs would choose alliances based on population…

The devs have all the numbers to make things even… There is zero guess work with these formulas.

Plus the devs can fiddle with population caps.

It’s all easy maths to make things even…

So megaserver wvw?

Like take 24 existing servers. Allow them to combine to form a total of 12 megaserver wvw teams.

Then you have 4×4 total megaserver bl, bl, bl and EB wvw maps where these 4 combined megaserver teams go head to head to head separately.

Then the rankings would be tier 1, 2, 3 and 4, and new match ups are determined by final scores.

IF this happened, Anet would have to shuffle in 3 total home base servers on the other side of the pond (EU) to make it an even 24 as well.

This is the stuff I’ve been talking about so did I get your idea right?

I’ve been on Fort Aspenwood since beta, through two times failing to make gold league, one time succeeding, and at least three times we were predicted to collapse and yet came back. I’ve enjoyed the community and I never thought of switching. I understand server pride just fine.

I also know a dying game mode when I see one. NA straight up doesn’t have the population to fill a total of 96 giant maps 24/7 and no amount of fiddling with the mechanics is going to make playing an empty map fun.

Yeah. Sadly that’s the current state of things.

He doesn’t care about NA as he’s not playing there, so if he can secure EUs server with this idea, he’s all for it. Same as me.
But in general, it’s a bad idea.
What you could do is let old wvw there while opening up your new Glorious Megaserver WvW, then let the players decide in which they want to play. That’s something called “learning and making things better”… You know, giving players freedom, not taking away choices.

Again, that wasn’t my idea. I just happen to think jayne’s idea bears some merit.

Isn’t that what EotM was for? As I recall it was supposed to be for an overflow and testing of new mechanics. Pretty funny from my stand point as nothing has been tested there.

You’re pretty fast with responses, can’t even get edits done in time.

They did test how megaserver works out in a player vs player vs player environment… They have all sorts of great statistics from doing so…

Sadly, chances of that happening are slim to none, and we will be regulated to the forums and what scraps we get from tweets and reddit. I just came up with a solution!

Since the whole mega server thing in wvw is essentially just to fix the NA mess, why not move forward with that for NA and leave EU the way it is?

EU has its issues, but nowhere near the problems of NA.

Then people who prefer community-based wvw can go to EU and then the rest can stay with NA.

Win-win.

And over a period of time we can see which type is more robust.

I’m in full agreement Jayne! This is a really really great idea!

I was having a rational discussion, thanks for missing all points I brought up to have a civil and healthy discussion with you…

You are entitled to take that stance, I won’t begrudge you. But for every one of you lost after the shiny new wvw update, 20 more will take your place. Also, when the smoke clears, you all will be back playing but “quiet” on the forums… A year will pass and then y’all will show face here again and I’ll think to myself “well gee, I thought bubi and jayne and diku quit but here they are…”…

Where do you get your numbers. 20 will replace every person who quits lol. I will quit if your vision of WvW is implemented and won’t come back considering there are at least 2 games with RvR coming out within the next few months. Hopefully the competition between games will be good for the direction of WvW.

1/1, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20, 1/50… Number doesn’t matter, you miss the point entirely.

Sure, you’ll leave and some others will leave, but then y’all will come crawling right back when Anet gets it all together.

And… I’ll add one thing…

So I played wvw for a short period of time… Big maps… More running… Less fighting… Carppy rewards… Did the tournaments… 500 scraps of absolute junk… I want a full set of mist weapons but I can only buy ONE weapon, of the ones I want, for 300 scraps…

WvWvW is a completely boring as hell and unrewarding waste of time…

At least I know if I go to eotm I’m guaranteed somewhat closer in number matches at times, it’s hell of a lot more fast paced AND fights happen more often… Rewards are still carppy though…

I could buy every legendary off the bltc right now with money, but I want those mist weapons and I want to fight… Simple right?

So at the very least, I know in eotm I’ll get more balanced fights more often when I go there…

And you know what’s sad? I probably clicked on that vendor 50 times looking at those weapons thinking to myself… “I can’t believe how little Anet cares about parts of their game”…

They can make a supergiganticawesome expansion, yet they can’t, over the course of one day, make it so we can convert badges of honor into these junk scraps so players can have a set of those weapons that have been sitting there for a year…

I think… “Look at all these temporary weapons and neeto weapon skills around the game that were made”, yet anet can’t improve THREE… Count them… 1, 2 and 3 skills on the Ranger sword…" and “Oh look at all these cool elites and skills”… /looksbackatRangersword…

Sad Anet, very sad…

Finally you explained why you keep posting the things you post. I get it you love EotM and are a reward centered player. Neither of those things are bad but why do you want to force your game mode on mine? That would be like me screaming non stop for open world pvp with no regard for the pve players. If anything you should be asking for more EotM style maps.

You don’t know what you are taking about honestly. You don’t even realize that most players feel the same way. I would suggest rereading everything that I’ve been posting in this thread.

Let’s see…
We had some numbers before HoT, which grew when HoT released, not just a few guild were coming back to try out the new WvW.

Then suddenly we have less people playing than before HoT.

Do you truly believe that wvw can be maintained on the long run by merging servers? As megaserver/alliance/whatever you call it is nothing else but a server merge with fluffs.
You remove the servers and replace them with a thing which connects them as a community… just like a server, with another name.

Yes, you can maybe temporarily increase the perceived population by removing servers, but it will not change the main problem, so people will continue to leave until you don’t have enough players for 3 sides.

You can try to delay, you can try out megaservers, but I’ll not participate in it, and that’s 1 less player to play wvw. I believe what we have to do is trying to get players back, not pushing them away.

But that again doesn’t answer why the devs made a common spvp lobby.

They made Server-based lobby, but when the people left the game after the initial rush, the megaserver crawled there.

As you can see here , HotM was the “testing place” of megaservers just like the other maps listed there.
It does not mean megaserver waiting lobby is good, all it does mean is that Anet devs think that an empty waiting lobby makes it looking worse.. even if we all know how little the gamebase for spvp.
Don’t forget, the matches were not server-based since launch, only HotM was.

I really think you are on to something here.

Let’s replace a few of your own words to put this into better context…

Anet devs think that emptier wvw servers, emptier maps, major population imbalances, and server stacking makes wvw look worse.. We also all know these to be “facts of pixilated life” plaguing wvw and shows how little the playerbase truly is for wvw.

So what do we do about this Bubi?

More segregated servers and wvw experience?

Replace the current individual servers by adding in another convoluted mess of individual servers?

Free transfer so we can have even MORE stacking issues?

No no no…

You take all the dwindling players and pool them together so they can play and so it gives the illusion that all is well in wvw land…

Lots and lots and lots of players are fighting for their GUILD and FRIENDS LIST and for GOOD FIGHTS… Not server pride…

I led an outmanned group in eotm and didn’t know anybody following me… Yet we had some really epic battles through the match and only wiped once while having a few very large victories and a ton of small ones too… Most memorable was when BL took wurm and we knew they were going to hit the tunnel… I started to drop ACs near the area but not in their direct path to our keep… Those ACs were visible though… Our team backed up and hid… Let BL through and they went on their merry way to our keep not even touching ACs…. So we jumped out and started pounding the back half of the zerg tail…. They kept pushing in and we kept thinning them out, protecting our ACs… Dropping more ACs… With BL almost wiped…. here comes FR and we held our ground while still outmanned in the open field…. As we were the whole time… And we wiped them too…

We got wiped once that day at a keep lord… That’s it…

I have tons of little stories from wvw and eotm… All of them about the fights, not the numbers on the board…

I don’t give a hoot what server I’m on, I care about seeing lots of peeps on the map and kicking some pixels… Not staring at empty maps… I’m pretty sure most would agree…

My story example showed that we overcame superior numbers, but 9 out of 10 times that’s not the case… If players keep getting outmanned and losing, and knowing every time they step into wvw they will be outmanned… They will either transfer servers or just quit entirely… That’s been wvw in a nutshell so far, and those are the main problems that need to be stopped and fixed… Along with some day vs night capping resolution… Along with lack of meaningful rewards and feeling of progress… But, population imbalances need to be addressed FIRST, so how do we make ALL maps closer to equal in numbers more often???

Let’s circle these thoughts back to all things spvp now…

sPvP players fight for themselves?

WvW …I fight for my World?

It’s not fun being a Gladiator fighting for a Red, Green, or Blue team…that can change depending on where the system decides it needs me.

I’d rather fight for a Purpose…in my case…my World that has a singular identity & community.

Players also make and fight for their team correct?

Tennis – You want to encourage all players to fight against each other. Only the strongest individual or paired players will become a Wimbledon Champion. Megaserver is wonderful at matching all players against each other.

NFL Football – You want to encourage well established & well known Teams to fight against each other. The community of fans are encouraged to fight & cheer for their Home Team. The best & well known Team becomes the the SuperBowl Champions.

Cornerstone needs to be set correctly or the whole skyscraper will not build as tall as you want it to.

The core needs to be Team Based.

All lucrative Sports are Team Based & have a Solid Identity…

Franchise…is that a marketing term? Well it applies here…for ANet to consider.

Ok…you can bring up Tennis…but that’s like PvP.

NFL SuperBowl is darn successful on having multiple teams compete…and high school players dream of making it into the NFL…but they all have their Team identity that is core to their value.

ANet’s skyscraper for WvW will be limited if they choose the wrong cornerstone to build with.

Choose wrong…and you’ll get the best Shoot Em Up game ever, but ANet will never have the ability to be the next eSport SuperBowl & setting up a Franchise model if they really care about the bottom line.

Ok, the core is team based. You need players to make a team… Think about that until tomorrow…

My point is many popular sports were not viewed or played by millions at one point in history.

Soccer <—- First Original Football that came before American Football
American Football
Baseball
Golf
Tennis

All these sports started somewhere…without the huge following that they have today.

Can you be so narrow minded to think that all the above sports had millions of followers the day they were invented?

Ok, so while you are looking at the wvw matching mechanics and server stuff, you are not looking at the fundamentals…

Profession designs are subpar.

Meaningful profession development is nonexistent.

Trait system is all wacky with things like a warrior traitline that includes traits that effect the longbow and an off hand weapon/horn I believe? Really?

Ranger shortbow trait is in skirmishing?

Most gameplay is auto attacking…

“Roles” are pretty pathetic and sad compared and it’s still mostly zerker/dps meta…

Can’t even move weapon skills on the bar…

Can’t even move the combat bar itself…

Profession balance is horrendous…

Professions and certain combat designs are not really good at all, yet you want to have a healthy wvw?

Where are the great rewards and sense of progress in wvw?

Spvp tournament had a pathetic amount of views, yet you want wvw to be some super esport that players care about?

The core list of things that need to be handled first goes on and on and on… These CORE issues must be addressed before you can think about some other ideas. That’s what I’m saying…

Gw2 does not have the appeal to be an esport… 10+ million players then we can talk. Your ideas don’t generate 10+ million players.

Figure that out first if you want the globe idea to even be a “reality”.

Trust me, Anet and all of us would love to be having a discussion about what best to do for 10+ million players… But that’s not the case is it now?

Currently there is no broad appeal to gw2 pve, wvw or spvp… Is gw2 a great game in many ways? Sure, but “nfl” equivalent it’s not…

You have to think of what the needs are then fill those needs first.

The #1 need right now is to pool existing wvw players together and let them play, have fun and feel rewarded.

Gw2 wvw players need bodies to play with and against. Until Anet can figure out how to fill this game with 10+ million players so they can draw that 10% for wvw, then we are at a standstill with your globe idea…

You can’t compare video games to sports ultimately. I was just pointing out what level gw2 is at using your nfl/football reference.

Gw2 does not have the population to support the individual server idea anymore and there is not enough interest.

Tier 1 wvw on a Sunday night and there is ONE commander tag up across 4 maps…

That is your segregated server pride in action…

Wvw is dead. Wvw here is not like a national US sport like football. Lol is more like football, wow is more like football. Gw2 is like highschool football… Gw2 does not have the population to support a segregated wvw system unfortunately…

We have had the same separated servers since the beginning and it’s not working obviously…

I’ll keep this separate… So, you experienced wvwers can’t take what community you are given and make something good happen?

That’s what I’m hearing… I keep hearing “we are really good and experienced”… Then lead all the newbies and take control of whatever map you are on…

Put together a scouting group and teach players how to scout…

Take some players and teach them how to defend…

That’s how you build up communities and that’s the mentality you carry.

You could zone into eotm right now, pop a commander tag and set the tone and lead the troops, teach players how to get better and keep your map full of your color dots…

And we clearly see where these prideful and segregated communities and lack of meaningful rewards have gotten us…

Most of the playerbase doesn’t care about wvw, let alone server pride…

Also, you make it seem like defending and scouting are not capable to do across 4 megaserver wvw maps that have objectives… That makes zero sense honestly…

So we don’t have scouts in eotm calling off enemy locations at times?

We don’t have defenders at times?

We don’t have havok groups breaking up zergs at times?

And this is the eotm that some of y’all give a bad name…

There was a group of 10 awesome players really pushing an entire zerg at a keep inside and out with smart gameplay…

I lead a group that cut off and ambushed a BL group that hit the wurm tunnel then wiped FR that ran in the mix right after…. We were very outnumbered too, but we had great AC placement, AC protection and use and coordination… In the open field not behind walls…

There was a havok/ambush group from FR that kept cutting off OG stragglers from their zerg for a half an hour and kept using the trilevel terrain to their advantage when lager groups would try to push…

There are lots of stories like these too… But this is only eotm…

Some of you assume way too much about eotm and megaserver stuff…

Unfortunately most don’t care about server pride. It’s a dead concept.

We need lots of players on the map pride.

We need epic battles pride.

We need good rewards pride.

We need to feel some sense of progress pride.

We need to have full coverage across 4 maps pride.

We need let’s have fun pride.

NFL has billions of fans… Certain other games are more like the NFL, not gw2 unfortunately. We are closer to high school football if anything…

GW2 is lacking in many ways despite some really great elements, but it’s just not even close to being “there” yet sadly.
