Greyhawk, do I really need to describe Mist Dwarves? It’s a basic idea, from a name, that doesn’t need an essay or more than one sentence to conceptualize. My thread title containing the words “Mist Dwarves” was all that was needed and amazing enough. And contained within those two words is the most incredible idea to ever come out of these forums!

For suggesting this idea, that will rake in hundreds of millions of dollars and add years of product life, I have some humble requests…
1. I would like an exclusive set of legendary armor along with legendary runes and sigils. No sparkles and such, I like darker themes. Something Vampire themed but not cheesy. Think medium Bladed Armor meets Chiroptophobia greatsword and has a baby.
2. Black bat wings back piece/glider.
3. 3 legendary weapon tokens usable on any generation.
4. A free set of Pinnicle weapon skins.
5. A prominent statue or npc in my honor.
6. An exclusive vampire beast mauler pet for my ranger.
7. Create a full set of black Chiroptophobia greatsword style weapon skins with black bats flying out of them, and make them available through the black lion weapon skin merchants.

And dumb idea? Eotm was designed by the devs as a test bed for future wvw updates, so maybe get your head out of the sand, and start paying attention to what is going on and what this game needs.

1. You want to design a map that forces combat more often, not makes it easier to avoid.
2. Less layers and less confusing paths to and from objectives for both offensive and defensive gameplay.
3. Less pve and automation.
4. Maps should encourage fast paced gameplay.
Eotm and all original maps were well designed with the above factors in mind. If you want to do something good for wvw and the community, then I suggest giving EB and borderlands a visual makeover. Perhaps a slight tweak here and there to create a feeling of newness, but that’s it.

EoTM Factions system is far superior to WvW’s server system.
But WvW’s Map is far superior to EoTM’s map.

The new desert maps are not superior. The design discourages fighting because it is too layered and less straightforward. You want maps to encourage fighting and force players to clash over objectives.
Almost nobody wants these maps in a wvw setting, and that’s clear by current participation numbers. Essentially they are “pretty” and useless maps for player vs player content. Nobody who enjoys eotm is going to like these maps, so no, the devs are not going to pawn them off now knowing they are clearly not wanted.

You’re deluding yourself if you think raids are hot (pun intended) and have great participation numbers overall. Also, most players don’t give a crap about it and want it out of VB because groups of players are standing around doing nothing but taking up needed meta # space. But by all means keep thinking that raids, in their current form, are good and have a healthy participation rate. Raids will end up like dungeons and fractals, and legendary armor rewards won’t save them in the long run.
I think that anybody that think they can figure out what is the participation of the community to raid is delusional.

In much if not all of the thread there is about the same ratio of negative to positive feedback to be honest. A lot of people are talking about tactics, build and composition in different subforum. But all of that is irrelevant. People go into the forum to search help, offer help or QQ. You rarely see someone going on the forum to create a topic on how great something in particular is. That doesn’t mean that everybody except a small minority that QQ on the forum love raid. That also doesn’t mean that the forum is representative of the community. And even if it was, like I said, I see about the same amount of negative than positive feedback on raid.

I don’t give a hoot if you, or the 5000 out of a million players can run raids just fine, but we are talking small numbers who are participating regularly by comparison. And by those same comparisons seen in game, in lfg and by experience, raids are a failure in design.

I didn’t know it was that hard to find 9 friends on the internet….
I didn’t know the raid would be so unpopular from day one… You’d figure there would be players dying to run this and stick with it while inside, but those are not the cases…
I never had a problem running raid content in another game, and within a matter of minutes I always had a full team ready to go… I also never encountered sitting around for long periods of time trying to replace members who quit…

Instead of constantly kittening about raids, how about we also come up with some fun ideas for the devs. Here is a mine…
Instead of having one rigid raid design, how about providing a selectable alternate raid intro and wing options. Something like… No vale guardians. 1000 pocket raptors blocking the entrance. Veteran, elite, champion pocket raptors nest inside. Legendary matriarch and patriarch pocket raptor bosses…
No gimmick mechanics, just wading through and surviving against overwhelming odds is the idea. An alternative option can be designed for each raid path going foward that is focused on fast paced combat and fun. If players really care about rp/lore stuff then they can run the original raid for it. So essentially you have a lore mode and kick kitten mode to choose from.
A selectable difficulty slider/scale should be made available regardless.

Allow me to set a scene here; I’m a level 80 revenant in exotic heavy armor.
Why do those little buggers kill me in 5-7 hits? It’s literally impossible to walk from point a to point b without being gang-racked by the little kittens and brought into downed state. Logically they should break their little teeth on my metal boots! =p
Please get rid of them. They’re nothing but an annoyance!
They are the one of the few fun critters in this game, perhaps you need to go back to the mists to hone your skills more and craft a set of ascended gear while you’re at it.

I believe giving us pocket raptors, rolling devils and vampire beast maulers as pets would be of great benefit to this profession, and would also serve to placate our anger and frustration for the next month until we get that super amazing patch in January.

Yes, you take away the exclusive skill based rewards. A huge driving factor in keeping the skilled players interested in actually playing, take that away and it becomes very difficult to find groups (probably impossible once everyone’s cleared it once cause now you can just farm it on lower difficulty. Completely removes the reason to participate in higher level raids.
And here’s the key issue, I think.
Raids aren’t as “fun” as they were promised to be.
I found Fractals pre-HoT to be enjoyable. Rewards were decent. I ran them daily.
Then they nerfed Fractal rewards in the hopes that people would try raids.
If raids were enjoyable, then even the 4g + possible Ascended loot + boss-specific drops should be more than enough to keep people grinding.
Raids are the most enjoyable aspect of the game for many people. Most people who are doing raids would not be playing otherwise.
And they nerfed fractal rewards because they made the lower tiers easy as kitten. And the upper aren’t hard they just failed scaleing difficulty and they already said they would be re adjusting the rewards and fixing the scaleing.
Also people didn’t run fractals for acended. They ran it for the unique skins. They already had acended
People don’t run raids for acended. They run them for the unique skins and legendary. They already have acended.
You’ll get your farm gold legendary with a different skin later. For now do raids or wait.
Just because you don’t enjoy something doesn’t means there should be an ez mode so you can get the rewards others are working hard for.
I don’t enjoy pve open world but I did map completion and farmed karma and other crap for my legendarys.

The raid is an enjoyable activity for a very select few groups of players comparatively. The current “raid” players were playing before the raid and they would still be playing even if the raid was not there. Honestly, if instance content was really good here, then those dungeons wouldn’t be effectively closed for dev business. Fractals are weak in design too and built around the agony gimmick.
I tend to measure skill in terms of performance against live players, not memorizing scripted AI encounters off of dulfy and being able to jump to green circles in time…
It’s actually kinda funny, but you are arguing against a qol option that would provide you (and those like you) the ability to “turn up” the difficulty and earn greater rewards, and have a thriving raid community to draw more players from.

This was pretty much foreseeable and Anet made the decision knowing full well how it’s going to turn out.
Yup.
They didn’t learn from their overall boring dungeons designs, and even those are better… They certainly do not know how to make fun raids and it’s really a snoozefest. We are also missing tons of qol options and tools for players that should have been in the game before or at least coupled with the raid patch. It is easy to see that the raid was poorly planned and rushed, the entire design is evidence of that.
I personally feel there is a design trend here of… Plan project. Start making project. Get to certain point and upload said unwhole/unfinished project with good intentions to keep building on it. Eventually abandon that project for the next project that will be uploaded when it reaches “playable enough” status.
It seems like there is no real direction for this game and everything feels like one big “experiment” to play in. It also seems like they are trying to be different for the sake of being different, and in many areas (especially profession and certain combat designs) that can be seen. Sure, ther are some good “different” things and elements, but there are equally enough not so good ones either.
Let’s just take this as one example…
Raids coming! Legendary armor coming! Talk about raids and legendary rewards! Talk about “we only have a raid wing for you to play”, but more are coming! Did I mention the legendary armor!…
We don’t even have a picture of legendary armor yet…
IMHO, the professional and organized thing to do would have been…
Have an entire raid done, not just a wing, before it is uploaded. Have legendary gear done and ready to be earned, with pictures to entice players. Update the lfg with a raid tab. At the very least, announce that personal use healing and dps meters, build templates, build savers, options to highlight health bars for “healers” to use, more stuff that I can’t think of… are coming soon. Then allow whatever teams to focus on those projects until completion and upload those for players ASAP.

Things I like without reposting the whole thing.
Condition rework would be good. Autos should not carpet bomb conditions. The entire condition system needs an overhaul.
A rune and sigil improvement that makes most of them more attractive and of benefit to use would be good, but I’m sure they are coming out with ascended stuff so let’s see how that goes. I don’t agree with any passive changes, that’s just silly.
Reworking a lot of traits and having a more open system would be good.
Build templates and savers would be good.
I agree with you about the reward system in general. It’s been a topic for a long time, but the devs a slowly making a better shift in certain areas.
I think that’s about it.

-Make staff better at range and backline healing.
-Make CA a stance and adjust stuff to make it happen to make it the frontline healing.
-Get rid of the ranged component to CA heals and make them point blank aoe skills with better radius because it only hits 5 players anyway and you have all sorts of pets in the mix too.
-Do something like… While in CA form incoming heals are 25% less effective and outgoing heals are 25% more effective so the focus shifts from self healing to TEAM HEALING.
I kind of like these suggestions. A few remarks though:
- I’d like to keep Lunar Impact as it is. As for #1 and #2, please, go ahead and change them
- 25% less self-healing ok, with the exception of our own actual heal skill please
Oh, and we need visible health bars please!
Yeah, all things are subject to tweaking, but the general idea would be much better than what we have now.

Arenanet told us they implemented the magnetide shards to prevent the unlucky people from getting nothing and have something they can work for. So i dont complain about the number of magnetide shards u need to buy something. But why adding a bonus gold cost?! buying an asc armor set is 47,5g + weeks of raiding (cause u can only get 105 [so i was told] per week). No offense, but you only get 4g each boss and still need to pay for the bufffood (~1g per 30 min). in my opinion the gold-prices are to high.
i am a very unlucky player and dont pray to rngesus so i have to pay tons of gold? i wouldnt call that fair….
Go earn coins, sell the loot, salvage loot and sell the mats, go gathering and sell… or use your credit card to buy gems and exchange them. “Lack of gold” sympathy is a thing of the past.

Exclusive gear can be added to other areas of the game too without detracting from those that like raiding. People who don’t like raiding won’t bang their heads against these walls anyway. But those who do, or are wiling to give it a whirl, have better and more flexible options available that encourage raiding.
You still get your “hard core”, nothing of what I said takes that away. In fact with scaling, you could even set it to be more “hard core” for better rewards…
You still get long term raid goals and challenges…
Nothing about what I suggested was about nerfing, it was about providing options to set difficulty levels per liking or skill level with equivalent rewards to match…

Instance content here is a slow paced and dragged out snoozefest. That’s the main point. Obviously open world content here is better, but instances stuff is boring as all get out. City did an amazing job with pace and fun factor, that’s a lesson to be learned here.

I skimmed through quickly but I want to say this…
Changes to AF were NOT designed because they were too good of team healers. Yes, while standing still and stacked up they did ok. Changes were made becuse Irenio and company kept seeing players run the ultimate dps/bunker/whatever “I’m going to heal myself with this entire new bar of heals I have access to”. Irenio perfectly designed the best functioning self healing build in the game, but he really wanted a good team healer role. He doesn’t have a team healer role on his hands, he has a mess of super self healers running around in zerker doing max dps/self heals and circle bunker/self healing builds.
If Irenio really wants to fix things and make Druid a TEAM HEALER then he needs to…

A healer needs to be able to heal when their team needs healing, not when articifical conditions are met to be able to heal. This idea of “you are burst healzor” is a terrible design and doesn’t translate well for team support. Healing roles should not be made a part time gimmicky gig like we have now. It’s drawing board time, but the devs are just going to fiddle with AF for the next year until the new elite comes out and the rest of the ranger will be neglected in the process.
I’m not trying to be confrontational, but a lot of you peeps are providing terrible suggestions that only serve to keep Druid and CAF the gimmick healer.

I have to be honest, your raid (and instance content) are utterly sluggish and boring. I don’t have any other way to say it. I could take almost any regular indoor mission from city of heroes and it would be more exciting to play. Not to mention any of these…

I won’t bother posting videos, but I’d strongly suggest that the raid/fractal team really do some research into what fun and fast paced content looks like. I’m sincerely not trying to be negative, but your instance content is the slowest and most uninspiring portion of the game. A bunch of your old open world content is more exciting to play than any of your instance content, and you did a really great job with HoT by all open world and instance comparisons.
