i’m in a guild that is active in WvW. we have several commanders in our ranks, and i’ve run under several other good ones. MOST of the time i’ve observed reasonably well organized fighting, and LOTS of /map chatter on where to go and what to hit. /map is almost never silent unless it’s really off hours. (yeah. it was pretty quiet at 11pm on a monday night. >.> ) in fact last night was the FIRST time in the past month that i personally witnessed a cluster **** of confusion and (in my opinion) poor leadership, leading to in-fighting and losing fight at hand.

not to say that we all know what the heck we’re doing, but as a whole we frequently hold off forces at a 1 to 3 or more ratio.

last few weeks that i’ve actually been paying attention to it, it’s always the same. friday reset… ET jumps in headfirst. paints the map red. leads the points all night… until we finally succumb and go to bed. then the infamous nightcap crew goes to work.

if we kept our level of organization and skill, and tripled our numbers… it would be a very different story indeed

and yet, despite all our skill and perseverance, we get told “you’re on the bottom of tier 8. you obviously suck and deserve to be there.”

Sounds like you’re running into the night capping flaw in WvW. You’re good enough to hold or gain ground in your peak time, but the next day you find all your gains lost as well as having to go up against fully upgraded objectives.

The “breakout” event might give you a tower, but it’s never enough to let you expand because the next tower/keep already is full of defensive siege. Coupled with the painfully slow supply getting to the tower, you always have to defend paper walls while you attack fortified walls. I can’t understand why a yak with 100 supply only drops off 35 if that is it’s only stop.

Currently SF has the second highest point total among NA servers and has the highest ppt total and is LOSING rating?!?!?

Obviously unless Anet fixes this game flaw for ET, you’ll end up having fun playing WvW only on Friday after reset. Eventually ET might be the next Kaineg, but by then you’ll have stopped playing GW2.

it’s not that you insulted me. but come on. it’s already been over a month that SF has been sitting on us, and no end in sight. “no quick fix” is all well and good, but every person reaches the end of their patience at some point, and right now, there IS no light at the end of the tunnel. at all.

Unfortunately, for the servers that are getting facerolled week after week, the only options are to get more players and get more coverage. You can’t really improve your skill because you’re always outmanned, spawn camped or breakout camped.

Map population and coverage are the two biggest factors that separate the servers from T4-T8.

If only there was a “Enemy of my Enemy” buff that allowed the two dominated servers, either in total points or ppt, to become allies and combine their forces against the leading server…..

Conditions in WvW get removed against better organized zergs and are less useful in small man groups where players have more spacing. Mostly a support role and good for wall attack/defense

A necro with Spectral Walk/Plague and wells can melt zergs or small man given support but is less useful attacking/defending walls.

Power necros can also be useful against zergs and small man groups but are practically useless in wall attack/defense.

I think that there’s good and bad with a WULD system.

The good is that a the red server in the T2-T7 gets to see the tactics used by the green server 2 levels above them as well as the blue server one level above them.

The blue server gets to see the tactics of the green server from the level above.

THE BAD:

It will end up that all tiers have the same tactic….SMASH RED
Green wants to wipe red twice as fast as they wipe blue
Blue wants to wipe red as much as they get wiped by green
Red will just try to hold on but won’t be able to match up.

The matches will probably be over before the Oceanics get to play in their prime time.

The only time I got any lag in WvW was when there was a three server meeting in the SMC LR. 2-3 second delay before your skill activated. Move and the skill reset. I’ve since lowered all my graphic and sound settings and haven’t had any serious lag issues or sound bugs.

Okay, heres little old me running around trying to get map completion done in WvW. I think its hilarious that I get zerged by 10-20 people that chase me down and kill me.

Would some explain why I matter that much?

What exactly were you doing to signal to opponents that you were looking to do map completion?

What’s to stop someone else like a scout from doing the same thing.

The only time WvW is PvE is when it’s PvD. You enter the portal to WvW and you’re not in Kansas anymore.

I used a combination of staff/wells/DS to roll through PvE. I even got to the point where I’d try to pull 5 mobs, hit staff 2,3,4, drop wells, then DS4 and collect loot.

Veteren’s took a little longer where I would have to switch weapons.

Nice gameplay, after watching it I’m starting to reconsider about giving my necro a condition spec once he hits 80^^

I’ve got a conditionmancer and there are times when in a ZvZ fight you can get a good corrupt boon / blood is power / staff 4,3,2 / epidemic and watch the numbers fly, but it’ll only be 6 max that you can hit.
The bad part of conditionmancer is that conditions get wiped quickly and you’re left with cd’s OR they just back away from the front to heal and you still have your cd’s.

Plenty of times I’ve hit a full boon guardian or ele with corrupt boon only to have the conditions wiped as fast as I debuffed them.

As for the video, I’ve been in some of BT’s zerg, more likely with an alt ele I’m levelling in WvW. Most of the shots are from Bay-Briar-Vale and involved “hide and gank” tactics that let the enemy in and then outflank them when they’ve got tunnel vision.

I think these tactics are more similar to camping the JP instead of winning in WvW.

Too often I see FA take longer than opponents to take keeps/towers, forget to upgrade towers that we do take only to lose them quickly because there’s no siege/supply/upgrade/defenders at the tower.

better would be that when plague form ends, all conditions on you transfer to foes in an epidemic fashion.

Plague form is one of the best elites necro has but it’s limited to confined spaces. Once players know to get out of the circle and range you it will become less useful and not worthy of an elite spot.

I started an ele, got it to lvl 2 in PvE and put her away. Then I saw how a focus ele could stop treb shots and after unlocking all weapon skills brought her to WvW. Now she’s lvl 35 in WvW in just a few weeks with crappy gear. I still haven’t completed the first starter area in PvE.

I may not hit the hardest and die faster than others but there are ways I can and do contribute.

What it should do is come up from the ground, grab the target and teleport them up in front of you like a wurm, it should work just like the exploited mesmer AoE pull but on a single target.

So there is an issue with queue’s, well a massive issue.

But the worst issue is the lack of any responce from Anet. At least let us know they are aware of these problems and trying to fix them.

I’ve had a lack of community feeling since BWE#1. It just seems that Anet is more concerned with getting new content out (Halloween, Wintersday, Lost Shores, Flame and Frost) than fixing broken game mechanics in Dungeons, WvW, class skills/traits (Necro hint hint).

Please just give us “the community” a way to feel that we’re being listened to, a way that makes us feel that we’re actually helping to make GW2 better.

You might be surprised to find that there are actually good ideas from your players.

I’d like to feel like I’m part of the “Community” as you often talk about but there’s just too little facts from a player’s perspective combined with too little distribution of the actual game mechanics from Anet for there to be a sense that I can help make GW2 a better game.

In a zerg-vs-zerg fight, both power and condition necros have means to “move the frontline”. I play a conditionmancer with corrupt boon/blood is power/epidemic and plague and I’m best at zerg-vs-zerg, wall offense and wall defense. I just love popping CB/BiP/Staff#4/Epidemic on a zerg and watching all the bleed numbers retreat. CB is buggy but once you learn that you have to face your target it hits more often.

Where I’m not much use is small group becuase players aren’t standing on top of each other. There is also some camp fights where the only damage I do to the boss is through bleeds, my direct damage when Righteous Indignation is active is always 0.

I think I will try a power necro and it’s playstyle with the knowledge that I may not be as useful on wall attack/defense. If only I could pull people off walls as easily as a mesmer…..

I noticed last night that when on a cannon I could see players but not which side they were on, even though they were in cannon range. It didn’t matter if there were 10-20 or if it was just one running by.

I also noticed that a lot of allies didn’t get rendered until they were much closer. Sometimes I’d see an ally just pop up on the screen at a distance of 1000-1500.

Would be nice to know before you jump into the fray whether you’re going to help a 15v20 or a 1v20.

one thing you should try is connecting directly to your modem, some modems firmware seem to have issues with gw2, if this is the case with yours, check if the routers supported by ddwrt or tomato, either should be worlds better then default firmware on your router.

Already did a direct connection to router, still lost connection.
Then I went direct to modem, still lost connection.

After the patch on the 28th I haven’t lost wifi, but the disconnections have decreased.

I had thought that it was partially because of all the effects, I used to get the sound bug, but I’ve lost connection with nothing going on around me. At least then I didn’t have to do a repair.

Did you connect your other computers to GW2? If so, how was that connection?

If their connection is fine, it’s something with that one computer and/or computer setting and not ANETS servers.

My other computer has GW2 on it, but it’s at or below min spec to run game. That’s why I bought a new computer before BWE#1. I had issues downloading the client and switched from DSL to higher speed cable internet just so I could play in BWE#1

I was going to send Anet a bill for a few gold but if I need to buy a new computer then it will cost them a lot more.

Just look at all the disconnect/crash threads in the first 7 tabs. There can’t be that many broken computers out there.

1. Lift AoE cap
2. Put in Fog of War, if you don’t have anyone near the camp at the far end of the map, you shouldn’t know that a supply yak is on its way.
3. Allow construction of forts, so you don’t have to defend offensive siege with so many people.

So you have other computers on the same connection that works fine.

Ever thought that it’s something wrong with the computer instead?

1. My computer doesn’t lose connection (drop wifi) when running anything else.
2. This has only started in the last 2 weeks, after a midweek update
3. The computer was bought prior to BWE#1. BWE#2 was when I had worse dc issues but that was fixed by BWE#3
4. I’ve since lowereded video and audio settings, below best performance, which seems to extend the time I can play before a dc from 20-30 min to 4 hours but I could have just been lucky.

I was playing a lot of WvW and did not have any DC issues as 99% of ppl.

Guess that 1% are those who have smth wrong with thier connection and are blaming anet.

check You connetion first before blaming anyone ?
Because most of dc’s are caused by Your internet.

Since my other computers hooked up to the same router/modem/ISP don’t have connection issues I guess I don’t need to check anything. It’s just the ONE running GW2 that gets disconnected.

Just look at all the “CONNECTION” threads in this forum before you say it’s not Anet’s problem. There’s one thread that has 67K views.

I’ve been playing WvW a lot lately and I’ve been having disconnection issues about a week before the January patch. I’ve noticed that sometimes when I log back in I get a “You’ve been defeated” screen along with a broken piece of armor that needs fixing.

I’m thinking I can take a screenshot of the Error 7 screen, one of the “You’ve been defeated” screen and one of the repair screen. Put them all in a nice spreadsheet, tally up the costs and send Anet a bill.

Now I understand why I see naked WvW players running around.

Remember, folks, that Error 7 is common because it simply indicates that you lost connection to the game. It could be us. It could be your modem or router. It could be the ISP. It could be a minor or major outage in the Internet backbone.

Each case can be slightly different, so submit a ticket, indicate it’s a technical support issue, and please follow up with our agent gets back to you, so that he or she can help you identify and resolve the problem.

Unfortunately, when I get Error 7 on my laptop playing GW2, my wifi is disconnected.
My other laptop is still connected to the internet and doesn’t experience connection issues.
I even switched from wifi to direct cable to router, still crashed, other computer still connected
I then switched from direct connection to router to direct connection to modem, still crashed, other computer still connected.

So it’s NOT my router
It’s NOT my modem
It’s NOT my ISP

IT IS GW2

I’ve been having the same issue where GW2 crashes and I lose wifi connection, so I tried using a direct cable connection to router….still crashes. Then I bypassed router and went direct cable to modem….still crashes.

Went looking for answers on support forum and tried stuff that made the computer work worse, had to re-install software…My bad.

Anyway, I ended up downloading the client again and it still crashed.

Later when I was on the background sounds were too loud so I changed both video and sound settings and the game seemed to work fine for a couple of hours last night. My video settings had already been lowered when the crashes happened last week, a three server meeting in SMC LR does that.

What I have noticed is that instead of getting that annoying sound buzz I get a dc and lose wifi connection.

All this time I was crashing playing GW2, a laptop not running GW2 didn’t have any connection issues.

Dead players in WvW shouldn’t be rezzable, if that’s a word, they should have a 10 second timer, disappear from the active map and be forced to go back to the wp.

That would help OP’s issue with knowing how many enemy are still “active”. It would also help with culling and stop the need to corpse camp.

I would prefer a trait that says if a necro condition is removed, player takes damage, burst damage. While I’m at it I want it to be AoE life transfer burst damage to make up for the months of neglect.

WvW circle of life:

T1 server. l33t. 24h coverage. HUGE wait times. Bored. Jump to T8-T9.
Become the “hottest” server. Bring up server by PvD. Rise until….
Stagnation. Need people/coverage. Recruit or be recruited (bandwagon phase)

Transfer fees aren’t going to stop this, just slow it down.

I was in one of those GW1 10 kurz 10 lux one family guild/alliances, but it was towards the end of GW1. Although I wasn’t running with guildmates for 50/50 HoM, I did enjoy the lack of drama as well as seeing more than 3 people active.

However, I had real life friends that quit GW1 that wanted to start GW2 from beginning. I picked Jade Quarry as my GW2 server from the headstart because I played JQ from GW1 at the end and had friends from that, but by the time my real life friends got on it was full. We ended up on Fort Aspenwood server.

Just like in real life, your circle of friends changes. I had already decided from GW1 that I wanted from GW2 an active, no drama, large NA EST guild. Since I’m going to play sPvP, WvW and PvE, I also added I don’t want a rep required guild or one that limited what I wanted.

Anyone else appalled by all the recruiting?

I play a condition necro in WvW and find that it’s best for ZvZ, keep/tower attack and defense or areas like Pang where movement is restricted.

I also play conditionmancer because it’s one of the few good necro builds that don’t suffer from bugged skills or traits.

If only Corrupt Boon wasn’t so glitchy…..

The two problems I see with conditions is that they get cleansed too quickly and I don’t get badges as much as others. On the times I have nailed boon stacked players with Corrupt Boon the conditions get wiped before Epidemic spreads them out.

The good part is I can tell that as I spread conditions with Epidemic I’m putting a lot of pressure on the other side. You can see how the attacks fade after they get hit with 5-6 conditions and people retreat to the back, but it’s rarely enough to down someone.

Personally I don’t care what Anet adds or subtracts from WvW as long as it increases the level of chaos.

I’m tired of the one sided matches. I’ve been on both sides and it’s more boring as the dominator than the dominated. Attacking while outmanned is at least something you can learn and use in later matches. Defending with high populations doesn’t teach as much.

I’m also tired of PvD but being in NA EST I only get to see the after effect of night capping. I’ve only been in PvD a couple times when the other servers quit playing on our home BL.

For the last 6-7 weeks in T3 NA there have been close scores, which has led to an almost predictable match where the same strategies are used hour after hour after hour. The only times where the matches got interesting are when all 3 sides have high population (Friday-Sunday). Unfortunatly the most interesting battle was when all 3 servers were in SMC lord’s room at the same time, which caused a 3 second delay for skill activation if you stood still and if you moved the skill never activated.

I would like Anet have a system where everyone has the same level of concern, not just those that are outmanned.

As a lvl 80 necro that has tried the corrupt boon/epidemic in WvW, I’d like it better if it wasn’t so bugged, like a lot of necro skills.

There is Well of Corruption, but that involves having the ele walk into the pulsing red circle.

The biggest counter for the average necro is their skills.

I was in a pug group when we did the powersuit level. Took us forever to finally beat him. After the first wipe we started running him to the buckets but couldn’t get him to always stop in the drop zone. We were slowly knocking his health down when I had to go down to rez some of the team. Someone else took over the bucket role.

At one point I saw damage numbers of 4-6K and even a 13K. As a Necro I only get those numbers with seige weapons but never13K. At first I thought it was because I had been dropping buckets on him but after thinking about it, maybe he becomes extra vulnerable (10-20x damage) when he’s burning and walks by the central cooling tower. Something to check out next time.

A few more tips after doing this for 8+ hours before first finish. I’ve since finished it for 7 characters, at least one from each race.

1. At the first wait platform, the screen shakes. That’s your cue to GO. The platforms are there before they render. This gives you (even Asura) a clear headstart where you are ahead and not obscured by others.
2. Keeping that headstart after first platform takes 2-3 jumps. Stay on the left side of the right platform and it’s a straight shot to the second platform. Most problems I had were getting caught behind a ridge in a platform.
3. It takes a bit of coordination from camera move and jump timing. You move faster running than jumping, Jump only when necessary. If your jump to a gear is long, you can run the rest of the way on the gear. Eventually, you’ll get a sense of the timing of the jumps, which helps when you switch characters.
4. Make sure you can see your feet. Keep your boots on and dye them a color that stands out. This helps all races except Charr. Charr when running aren’t upright like the others. I took longer getting my Charr to the top cause I was so used to waiting for my feet to get to the top of the platform before I jumped. Charr take longer strides so I had to guess/remember the timing on some jumps.
5. The clock has 8 sides, I always had to go around twice before the jump into the tower. Look for the intact clockface and count the sides so you’ll be ready for that last jump.
6. Like most jumping games, find the timing pattern that works for you. I’ve seen people that were quicker to the second platform and they took a different route.
I’ve also caught up to others that were ahead of me because I took a quicker inside route. The only times I didn’t have the forward key down in the first section was after a jump to a bar to stop from going too far and a sideways jump from that bar to get to the steps just before the jump down to the gear with chest. The second part of the puzzle I took more care on some jumps because it seemed I had more time.

When I was in overflow, which is probably what most people are in, there are at least 10 others in that instance. Friday night I made it out of overflow and there was only 4-5 total. After others made it/gave up, I was in the instance alone. I still failed cause I didn’t have anyone to guage my progress or learn from.
