Would the mark be placed pre stomp or post stomp? If they fixed the issue with marks not being triggered by downed players it might be something. But would it be worth taking as a trait? Probably better off if it was combined with an existing trait.
Short answer: It depends.
Single target WITH lots of boons, corrupt boon.
Otherwise, WoC
Most cases will fall into the Otherwise category.
In WvW, since conditions are stripped quickly, you might find that before you can hit with an Epidemic the target has lost their conditions. I use WoC because I know that if the head of the zerg goes past a point, the tail will pass it also. so I know that the pulses will end up hitting multiple times. I’ll also use it on clumped up downed players so I can get extra loot bags. WoC for me is used on every choke point, attacking/defending keep walls, open field, camps, even doors get WoC for lifesteal combo.
For PvE mobs aren’t smart enough to leave the wells so I typically aggro several mobs, drop wells, drop marks, DS#4, watch them melt.
I don’t do sPvP so I can’t say which is better there.
@Swamurabi:
what exactly is this damage-nerf to retaliation anyway? ive seen the april-update notes where it was stated that retaliation does the same damage as it does in spvp. but was retaliation-damage different in spvp in the first place?theres nothing about that in the wiki.
all i saw in the previous patchnotes was something about retaliation only stacking 5 times now. (which i dont understand either, since it only stacks in duration, not in intensity).
please help me out with that, the wiki-description is pretty much all i know about retal
I saw the same update notes as you, there was nothing that mentioned a difference between sPvP and WvW until this last patch where they were made the same. As for wiki, it’s anybody’s guess if the formulas in wiki are accurate, since there’s nothing in any tooltip about combos and their effects. We shouldn’t have to rely on exhausting tests aka (Necro having 1/3 HP in downed state) to know what’s going on in the game.
But as for the video, if you believe the formulas from wiki where a blasted water field gives 1320 + 0.2*healing power of blaster, when you combine that with Ele’s Healing Rain (2080 health, 6s water field) and a Guardian with a traited Mighy Blast with 4s cooldown, it’s easy for just 2 skills, Mighty Blast used twice, to heal everyone in an area for over 5k. Add a second guardian and it’s over 7.5k. Add a second ele and every 20-25 seconds you can get 7.5k health spikes. This doesn’t even count the 3.5k healing from the Eles other water field skill, Geyser, if it’s blasted twice or each individuals own healing skill.
There’s no other skill any other profession has that can compare to a blasted water field.
I main a Necro in WvW but I levelled an Ele from 7 to 80 in WvW. I’ve played way more hours on the Necro than the Ele but I feel I help the zerg better with the Staff Ele but I get more loot bags with the Necro. While I switch utilities on the Necro depending on what I’m doing, I’ll switch weapons on the Ele instead so they both seem similar to me.
Since Necro isn’t one of the preferred classes in WvW, there are times when we have several Necros in the zerg, the other side doesn’t adjust well. Everyone by now recognizes Eles stacking Lightning, Water and Fire. Also Mesmer portals, veils, null fields and temporal curtain are easily seen and accounted for. There’s no counter for a Necro mark that hits a player when it’s cast. With all the AoE and animations going off the Necro Wells just disappear into the ground.
Even before the recent nerf to retaliation I rarely saw a zerg use Light fields. I’ll have to try to convince the group I run with to give it a try, but I think they tend to wait and let the other zerg waste all their high cooldown skills first and then attack.
Other than the Camp Supervisor with pre buff Righteous Indignation, I’ve never seen anyone call out for a dark field. Another thing I will try to research is whether a Might stacked zerg, Venom Share Thieves, all using projectiles through a Necro Dark Field (Lifesteal) will melt a door before getting wiped by one AC.
At level 8 you won’t have the best armor or weapons and you don’t need to constantly waste money buying them. By level 8 you should have already unlocked every weapon skill.
What I did on my necro was to drop 4 marks in front of mob, then fire the slow staff 1, switch weapons and keep backing up. By the time the mob got close to me they were under 20% health. You can keep the Blood Minion and use it as a meat shield until you get Flesh Golem at lvl 30.
When you get wells you can change your tactics and aggro several mobs, wait till they’re on top of you, drop wells, drop marks 2,3,4, then DS4….if any are still alive, switch weapons and hit them a couple of times…..pick up loot. Used this all the way to lvl 80.
For WvW I play as a wellomancer, switching out utilities as needed. I have WvW invaders/soldier crests and berzerker trinkets. I sometimes go 30/20/20/0/0 but mainly am 0/20/20/30/0.
I am constantly switching utilities/weapons depending on what I’m going to do. The utilities I most use are WoS, WoC, Signet of the Locust, and sometimes use Spectral Walk or WoD. I’ve even experimented with Spectral Wall, Flesh Wurm and Spectral Grasp. My Elites I switch from Plague Form and Flesh Golem.
Typically Signet of Locust is used for speed, then I swap out for Spectral Walk/Plague Form against zergs. If I’m going solo against yaks/sentry/camp, I go with Spectral Wall/WoD and Flesh Golem.
With the current issues on top of walls and trying to ground target more people are getting very close to the edge to use skills and Spectral Grasp is less likely to be obstructed. I like Flesh Wurm as a way to hit AC on a wall that my marks can’t reach.
Is it just me or is almost every BL laggy/constant delay and crashes?
I dc’d Friday right at reset but was fine for the next few hours. Ran into several bugs with jumping off cliffs, using siege on edge of wall and targeting from wall though. Saturday I had issues with lag until I dc’d, came back dead in LA with damaged armor.
The last time I had WvW dc issues in February after a patch, Anet said everything was fine from their end, my ISP said everything was fine from their end, so I changed routers and things got better until this last patch.
Funny how connection issues seem to happen right after a patch.
I’ve seen several wall/cliff bugs in WvW since last patch(es).
1. Trying to use an arrow cart placed at edge of wall gives “can’t drop bundles in mid air”. you can’t use any siege skills or leave siege. Waypoint is only way to break siege stun.
2. When on the edge of a wall and I get green target on ground for Necro marks, the skill doesn’t work.
3. Jumping down from cliff will rubber band you back to cliff, sometimes 3-4 times
4. Jumping down also will cause no damage upon landing, but is delayed a couple of seconds.
Isn’t the way to take hills the same as taking any other keep in a BL?
1. Have supply, tons of supply
2. Build more trebs then the defenders
3. Trebs take out Mortars and defensive Trebs.
4. If you’re standing around not doing anything, run supply and build more trebs
5. Eventually outer wall goes down ( It might take 2 weeks but it’s a siege war after all)
6. Use more Trebs to take out defensive ACs inside inner walls.
7. Build ACs to push people back and clear choke points
8. Build more Trebs to concentrate on LR
9. Sweep for Mesmers
World vs. World
•Siege sites are now destroyed 2 minutes after being placed if they receive no supply.
What’s the longest time to run from keep/tower to supply and back without speed buffs?
From someone on FA, when [WM] was on the map the intensity level increased. War Machine certainly was one of a few guilds that commanded the attention of the best WvW guilds on FA.
However, War Machine’s server hopping may in the long run do more harm to your guild, overshadowing all the success you have on the battlefield.
Too bad there isn’t a way to easily find information on which servers have the level of competition your guild is looking for to keep the game interesting.
From http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru
Warriors get a Boon Hate trait in the upcoming April 30th patch. Thieves will be able to “steal” boons.
Since Necros don’t have access to boons like other classes, should Boon Hate be a class mechanic for Necros?
I have a question for Devon,
Do you have plans to have a “State of WvW” type program similar to
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru
Maybe it’s time Anet adds some world buff for those servers in a tier that are “out coveraged”. If they could make it so a T1 could have a competitive match with a T8-T9 server, then you wouldn’t see the stagnant matches we have now.
Another idea is to handicap the winners of T1 that have weeks and weeks of victories. If Anet’s goal is to spread the WvW population evenly across all servers then throw the Nerf bat at those servers that dominate week after week after week.
How about an alliance/treaty feature for WvW?
Roll one of the less favored classes in WvW and stop QQing. Elementalists, Mesmers, Guardians and Warriors ALWAYS have a roll call in voice chat.
My first elite was Flesh Golem, ran with scepter/dagger and staff with wells all the way to lvl 80. Took some time to finally switch to Consume Conditions as #6 Skill so I usually ran with 2 minions. Minions make kiting champions easier, if the minions aren’t looking at flowers and butterflies and minotaurs….
Still use wells today but mostly in WvW. Dropped S/D for A/F and sometimes D/W depending on what I’m doing.
Devon Carver, Anet WvW Dev, has 2 replies today on the WvW forum. The April 30th patch is probably done, giving Devs the time to catch up on forum threads.
Post away, what harm could it do.
You need to post this in WvW forums, you might actually get a response. The necro downed state bug thread got a response in less then 2 hours when posted on the WvW forums while being ignored for 2-3 weeks and counting on the Necro forums.
Because there are people patrolling the WvW forum and not the Necro forum?
It’s not just Necro forum, it’s all profession forums.
Why so few dev comments in profession forums?
Apparently someone has time to post on the WvW forums.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention and sorry for the problems this might have caused.
We are going to forward this to the team so they can assess the problem.
Thanks
Being a Necro that prefers WvW, I’ve gotten used to the silent treatment, but it is nice to get confirmation that someone from Anet is actually reading the threads, even if it seems like it’s once a month.
Ok now I can’t stand it anymore. This issue is getting ignored in our class and bug sub forum.
Why does it take an hour to get a response in the WvW forum but go ignored for weeks on the Necro forum.
I also believe it would promote hybrid play. The damage could scale based off of power, and not condition damage. This would allow power builds that don’t take a ton of condition damage to reap the benefits of conditions. The danger with an idea like this, however, is the possibility of it becoming mandatory because of how well it could synergize with a lot of builds.
Why shouldn’t Necros get something, anything, that synergizes well with lots of builds?
Sometimes I go for a week all in WvW. Endgame? For some it’s the ONLY game.
Necros will be fine once we get that build where every other profession has a post “how to beat an ‘insert build name here’ Necro”.
You have to admit that GW1 got a little out of control once you realized that an Assassin was the best tank, an E/Mo Elementalist was the best bonder, and a BiP Necro was the best for team energy regen. The 2 builds that screamed Necro in GW1, the MM and the lifesteal necro, just aren’t as good in GW2.
The main complaint I have with GW2 Necro is that it isn’t as versatile as the other scholar professions, the Mesmers and Elementalists.
I just wish that the necro would have A skill that could be used for Offense, Defense or Utility like some of the many skills from Mesmer and Elementalist Profession.
All I take from this vid is…
1. Voice chat groups are far better than text chat groups.
2. DON’T stand in a choke point. EVER, unless you want to be a loot bag.
3. Siege is overrated. They were still using siege after the gate was down. A might stacked group that raced up the ramp would have wiped the defenders.
4. There are so many offensive and defensive moves that attackers could have done to make this an easy wipe…………
Fire fields for might, water fields for heal, light fields for retaliation, hammer warriors/guardians for hard CC, feedback, wells, veil, portal bomb, any kind of organized attack plan using the people in your group would have cleared that tower in seconds.
Honestly wells are under-powered to me, 5 seconds ticking at 900-2k with a 36 second cool-down, hitting only 5 people per tick . my staff auto attack does more. and my LB does way more if i take out the 10 in death and go with 30.20.0.0.20 for soul’s piercing life blast and curses’ 20% corruption recharge for better might stacking.
wells aren’t sexy a green ghastly death dealer is.
enemy zerg: “oh look a well” presses strafe for a moment
wellmancer: “aww where did the numbers go?”
Step into WoC and their boons are conditions, all of them. So if they stack might it becomes weakness which means they do less damage.
Step into WoS and you get vulnerability. When combined with your zergs might stacks means they take10-20% more damage.
Step into WoD and they get blinded. Combined with Chilling Darkness trait means their next attack misses, they move 66% slower and their CD’s are increased 66%. Good, good and good.
After all that go plague form blindness and you’ll see them all die as you walk amongst the loot bags.
Wells: Don’t go zerging without them.
Since you’re in T2, you are in and are going against organized zergs. Wellomancer is much better at this tier for two reasons. You are more likely to get might from a blasted fire field from your own zerg and the opponents’ zergs, using voice chat, act as one better so a well that’s dropped in front of them will hit/affect up to 25 players as they pass through it.
Ethical question of the thread:
Just because something CAN be done by the opponent does it mean you SHOULD do it also?
Must be Feni the Troll day.
If you’re that good, you should move your server from T7 to T1 by yourself.
As to the topic of rewarding WXP for yak running. maybe the WXP should be inversely proportional to how much supply the tower/keep already has.
That doesn’t make any sense. There are lots of times that capping off the supply in a tower or keep is every bit as important as at any other time. Maybe an attack is expected and all the supply possible is needed for defense/repair. Maybe the tower is sitting at 730 supply and needs that last yak to justify ordering the upgrade instead of saving the supply for defense. I see no purpose at all in making the WXP proportional.
Bot prevention. No need to get same WXP for the first yak as the yak that tops off or the one that arrives when the supply is full.
You can also have it so that any yak that arrives when upgrade is in progress gives full WXP or when the supply isn’t full but yaks that arrive with a tower at max supply give 0 WXP.
Nice to have a Dev response (no pun intended).
Problem with rewards is that it promotes zergs and nothing else. It’s actually more profitable to let an enemy flip a tower so you can karma/wXP it back 5 mins later. It’s more profitable to run a zerg of 50 over a supply camp for the wXP rather than just sending 2 or 3 people (or 10 with no supply) to take it. Same issue with roles like defense, supply running, or dolyak guarding. The reward system works against smart/elaborate strategy in WvW.
Glad it’s being looked into.
I couldn’t help reading that and thinking that they call Devon “Dev Dev” at the office.
Lot of red posts on the WvW forum lately. Must mean that the April 30 patch is done.
We gonna see more Anet icons in WvW soon?

As my favorite day of the week approaches I feel the need to share this:
Cool vid, and looks like you’ve stopped clicking for the most part.
Ya. I have. my guys gave me too much kitten.
[RET] almost kicked me out because of how loud my keyboard was
but now i’m the god emperor
deal with the clicks, underlings
At least your jokes aren’t constant like the [DPS] music. Not one of my favorite things. Is there a way to not listen to it and still hear voice chat?
Depends, if your side is attacking/defending SMC and you ask for JP help you might get some anger directed your way. Also if there’s enemy golems at your keep gates you might not want to ask.
Neither bothers me as much as Mesmers asking for tips in the JP.
In WvW, expect to die. Expect to die more if you don’t have the experience playing WvW.
Things you can do to die less:
1. Find out what your class is good at in WvW and get the weapons/traits/gear/food for it.
2. Run with and observe the guilds/commanders to find the playstyle you like best. You’ll also find which guilds/leaders are successful.
3. Use your server’s community voice chat.
Once you get on voice chat and follow a good leader you’ll get that “light bulb” moment when you start enjoying the game.
Give everyone a skill when they are out of combat, they can pick up a dead body and carry it and throw it over a wall/cliff. No more dead camping. No more spying while dead. No more waiting to find the stealthed thief.
I’ve been wanting to try this. In WvW. You’re by a cliff high enough to kill from fall damage. An enemy comes to attack you. You hit Spectral Grasp, dodge, run or jump over the edge before Grasp hits, double tap Spectral Walk before hitting. Does the enemy hit with Grasp follow you or are they stopped by the pebble (cliff edge)?
I was thinking of using this as a solo yak killing defense in one of the enemy BLs.
If DS doesn’t remove Spectal Walks teleport it could also be used at Hills.
Spectral Grasp, Spectral Walk, jump, DS, teleport back up, look down at dead player, /wave
There are falling traits that have some use, like ele’s static field which can also be used to provide swiftness if blasted.
A few nights ago was the first time on community teamspeak where I heard a commander specifically NOT want any upleveled players. It didn’t get as bad as an equipment check but that’s where it’s headed.
Scepter/dagger for Condition builds.
Axe/Focus for range Power builds.
Dagger/Warhorn for melee Power builds.

Makes a Quaggan sad when T2 servers complain about coverage. ooooOOOOOOoooo
For Shatterer and Tequatl, you’ll have to wait until one if it’s minions is close to the dragon foot to drop your mark so that it hits both.
Jormag minions don’t get close so marks won’t work.
You’re better off using dagger, axe and DS#4 against dragons. If you place yourself in the middle of the feet-head triangle, DS#4 hits for a ton.
As a Necro I have to laugh at this thread. Most Conditionmancers soon find that there’s so much condition removal in WvW that they switch to a different build. Now that Epidemic has been LoS nerfed, there’s even less Conditionmancers out there.
It’s not just Necros, check all the forums for red posts and you’ll see the lack of feedback to the community in the profession forums.
So what happens if you’re carrying 15 supply and you kill a yak and get 5 supply from a chest?
As for the necro itself being ‘boring’, I can’t really comment as I have only played condition builds due to all of the above.
That’s one thing I find unique about the Necro. Theres a Necro build to suit every playstyle, whether it be melee DPS, ranged DPS, condition, power, hybrid, bunker, bunker buster. It might not be the best but it is something you can spec for.
I started as a conditionmancer, ran through PvE and while normal mobs weren’t a problem, Vets, Champs and Bosses seemed to take a long time to down. As I switched to more WvW play, mainly focusing on zerg running, I started out with the conditionmancer build with BiP, CB and Epidemic. Got to the point where I knew when to use CB. However I had the feeling most times that I wasn’t helping. The loot bags were few.
Then I switched to Wellomancer and like the build better than anything else. I do like staff ele as the best zerg support, but the loot bags don’t compare when I’m on my Necro.
Since Necros have little damage mitigation, except Deathshroud, AND necros are supposed to be the attrition class, shouldn’t Necros have the ability to regain HP AND life force to counter a high DPS burst opponent?
Soul burn. Like Ghost Rider. Uses all life force and damage is scaled to how much life force you have. Make it DS#5
I’ve gone through all the profession forums and some have no dev comments in 20 pages of threads. Most only have at most 5 posts in 20 pages. It makes us, the players, think that we’re not being listened to.
1 second Epidemic cast isn’t going to be avoided….Check
I think Epidemic already has an operational cooldown already loaded. Not like the skill gets spammed now is it.
I would love to know how you can check that one off. Since most classes have multiple dodges, skills that give them dodge/block, invulnerabilities, passive invulnerabilities, on and on and on. (Vigor)
Also you cannot see their dodge bar, to know when their next dodge is up again, and can… maybe…. guess… if someone chained two dodges in a row like a kitten
I am with the poster just above now…. just focus on a downed player and use it on them… they can’t block it themselves or dodge it or cleanse it themselves. I have to ask people to politely not speed-stomp so this can happen.
After thinking about this a bit more though, I realized this is exactly what happen to (most) of the mesmer summon skills. They used to summon Izerkers on people without LOS, ignoring immunities/block/blind/dodges. They patched in the fixes a few patches ago and they wailed about it for a few weeks and eventually gave up… my prediction is that will happen the same way here.
The difference is…. an Izerker whirling you for 6k damage out of nowhere is quite a bit more devistating than a black swirl that doesn’t even damage you, and potentially does nothing/next to nothing to those around you.
What I meant by my post is that you can’t balance Epidemic with an increased cooldown because in order for Epidemic to be effective there has to be several other factors that have to happen for it to work.
I’m sure that there’s stats on how many times Epidemic is used and actually transfers conditions. If players find that Epidemic isn’t worth adding to the skill bar because the skill isn’t working as the player intended then the Dev’s will make changes.
