/ 2x XFX R9 290x in Crossfire
(edited by Swordbreaker.2581)
Pretty sure cbuzz has the youtube channel benchbrovidz (I don’t think theres a second person who would run 2x 660tis at exactly 1300mhz with a 3930k. He tried running 2 hd 5850s in crossfire and failed to get it to work. First of all why would you run such old cards when you have a brand new 3930k and to me your crossfire issue was really an ID 10t error.

Get two 7970s and its only like 60 bucks more than two 670s and a lot more powerful.
Good idea, he can then have all the Xfire issues that come with it.
I dont have any xfire problems.

Your cpu is just too underpowered im afraid for this game. The 7970 is a really powerful gpu but its performance is being really bottlenecked by the processor.
Did you install the Catalyst Application Profiles as well found on the driver page?

Something interesting I found is that when I used a 4g hotspot, because my cable was down, whenever it disconnected, the screen would turn black, which makes me think there could be two different timea the screen goes black. It may be your internet losing connectivity as well if youre tethering your phone or using a hotspot, or maybe even just losing connectivity and it may not be your video card at all. Just a shot in the dark.
Oh also most newer motherboards will have sata instead of ide, so you will need a sata harddrive and sata dvd drive. sorry it seems expensive. But it will be worth it.

On my phone pulling up links for you :p
While your video card is sufficient, WvWvW is very cpu heavy and your computer has an older processor in it that is the bottleneck on your system. The problem with upgrading the cpu on your system is your motherboard is only going to be compatible with a certain socket chip. You will most likely need to upgrade your motherboard with cpu. I would suggest a third generation i5 3xxx cpu and acompaning motherboard at least to get better performance in WvWvW.

Make sure your laptop is always plugged in. Also make sure that your power settings are on performance. If your laptop becomes unplugged while you are playing it, its possible its changing over to integrated graphics to save power. Also for those of you fighting about gaming laptops, take it to private messages.
Time for a new computer ^
A new m17x shouldnt have a problem running gw2. My wife has one and she plays on medium high settings and gets 60 fps most everywhere and her laptop is a year old and has just one mobile radeon 6970 card. I would recommend gettig one with a crossfire or sli setup, but you should be fine

@Cubzz it sure is Guild Wars 2 because the clocks are stable in any other game. The FX processor has turbo mode where it clocks the processor up and down. What ever programming Guild Wars 2 has is freaking out the CPU.
Also before I did anything to the PC the CPU was going over 65*C after I got the CPU the temp was 35*C. Now that I manually set the voltage the temp is staying around 25*c. That’s a 40*C difference and just for reference the CPU ran @ 49*c with the old tower and CPU fan. Guild Wars 2 is causing high heat in the FX processor!
I ran some more tests last night and running the game stock @3.1GHZ I am getting 45~89ps and it hit 109fps a few times but its mostly in the 80fps range. And the CPU is running 25*C, so I see no need to overclock!
No… it’s not. Faildozer’s are renown for downclocking whenever they feel like it. If the cpu is >65c then you’ve got a problem with your cooling.
Ive got to agree with cbuzz. Your cpu is downclocking because its getting too hot when playing gw2 and thats why when you manually set the voltage it doesnt downclock. I would check your cpu temps while playing. You could end up screwing up your cpu if its getting so hot it has to downclock.
They should add the ability to have your own housing in this game and you can craft or even buy with gems, furniture and such. A little floating cube house maybe. I would want one. Take my money now!
I would think they dont sleep because that would be inefficient and a waste of valuable time. I would think they would have a house at least or hut to keep their clothes. After all they wear clothes, they need somewhere to put them.
I would like to add that in Orr in some places and zones with a lot of fog/smoke I do take a hit in my fps. It can go as low as 35-40 fps in those areas, which is frustrating.
Np I totally understand
1920×1080
/15 chars
Maxed settings
Roaming around 60-140 fps depending on zone
DE 50-60
Pvp 50-75
WvW 45-60

No offense but this doesn’t belong in tech support. Try the players helping players forum.
No not on max. Especially if you are going to do WvW. You will most likely have to spend 1500 dollars at least to play this game on max. I would get an i7 and right now because nvidia 6xx cards are having trouble, I would get a radeon 7970 and I would increase the ram to 8 gb as well.
I think that sounds like a pretty cool idea actually. If Asura were in fact real, you don’t think they’d come up with ingenious ways of dealing with problems using their magic and science?
As it is, this skill is useless but I have a few Ideas that would make it useful in the right situations.
1. When a team mate is in the battle suit, when they ‘die’ they just jump out of the suit and only the suit is destoyed, giving that person temporary double health (hp if the suit then their hp).
2. Give the suit strong taunt abilities making it like a defensive golem for somebody that could jump in and temporarily tank until a tankier person can come along or a warrior could jump in and get extra health for fighting a champion when not as many dps are present and it might be nice to have a little extra armor and hp until more people zone in.
Let me know what you think. These are just some suggestions that I thought might make the battle suit a cool utility instead of useless. If you think the idea sucks let me know too :p

You can doubt as much as you like, just puttin’ out there what the improvement has been after spending a bit of cash.
So you won’t mind uploading a video to YouTube then of you in the middle of a giant WvW battle showing 90 fps
If you’d like definitive proof, feel free to send me over a camera so I can record my screen. Let’s not taint with FRAPS or other screen capture software.
Go ahead and use fraps or any capture program you want, it won’t reduce it that much You won’t get 30 fps. Guaranteed.

90 fps in WvW. Anybody else smell that? Make a video and post it on YouTube :p
^Sorry mom. We’ll make sure to wear our bubbles whenever we go outside.

What do you mean by cinematics? Do you mean when there’s a conversation or when there’s a movie? Most movies are coded to play at 30fps to reduce the file size. Even YouTube videos are locked to 30 fps .
Syrellaris,
Ok.. 35 fps is low. If you think otherwise then that’s ridiculous. And people are posting those solutions because they themselves are havin low performance issues.
35 fps is NOT low. Consider a game like Split Second that actually limits your fps to 30 and plays very smoothly.
Just because it has been shown to be overclocked to 4.4 doesn’t mean it will be stable when overclocked. There are many other variables to consider, like differences in the motherboards, voltages etc. Overclocking is a risk, if you are getting BSODs then it’s probably safe to say it’s due to the overclocking. One way to tell for sure is to set it back to stock speed (set everything back to stock in BIOS as well) and see if you still get BSODs. If not, then yes, it’s because of overclocking.
WARNING!!!: I would not recommend overclocking components unless you are well versed in the subject. Beginners can easily fry hardware by overclocking. If you plan on being an overclocker, I would first recommend you read up on the subject (read, read, read). Also make sure you become as familiar with your hardware as humanly possible (again, read , read, read). Knowing what the limitations of your hardware will only help to keep you from inadvertently frying a component.
i know the basics, keep temps low and dont increase voltage if your a noob. is there anything else thats very important?
You know not to increase the voltage, so that’s good. However, if you were to run your CPU at those speeds, you’d HAVE to increase the voltage. In otherwords, you won’t be able to run it that fast. Try running it at around 3.7GHz or 3.8GHz first, and if that’s stable, slowly creep your way up from there.
^This. When overlooking to that extent you will need to increase your voltage. Just inch it up until your cpu is stable and remember to watch your temps closely as you do.
I would suggest posting this in the bugs section as well. Doesn’t sound like a hardware issue but a game issue.
There’s no reason your rig shouldn’t play the game at 60-140fps at all times with everything on the absolute highest settings. So ya its partially an nvidia driver problem/ partially a game optimization problem.
Its a amd cpu as well though. Doesn’t matter how many cores it has. It just doesn’t have the same power as an i5 or i7. Hell an i3 beats it.
Nice rig That is a bit curious you are getting such low fps. You are playing in fullscreen and not widowed mode correct? It may very well be nvidia drivers if that’s the case. The only reason I mentioned full screen mode is sli/crossfire won’t work in widowed mode.
Dx11 may be faster but it won’t matter for most people here who are having cup bottlenecks so a faster directx will NOT help.
Crysis and Mass Effect are gpu intensive games. God I feel like a broken record.
What are the specs of your computer?
wtf?
and why her specs matter?
obvious something wrong with GW 2, nothing to do about
a lot of people have the same problem
Lol. Because specs do matter. If they are having problems running the game because they are on a pentium 2 with a voodoo xtreme graphics card then do specs matter or is it just the game that sucks?
Honestly I can’t tell if responses like this are troll attempts or if you are in fact genuinelykitten

It seems like the opposite should be true :x weird problem.
Id be willing to say just as many if not more people game on Linux than mac.
If steam native games, BF3 and GW2 ran on linux , Id honestly never run windows.
I wouldn’t hold my breath but still +1 for the post.
I have to agree with Ceallach, people don’t seem to understand what minimum requirements means.
It means that hardware will be able to play the game at the utmost lowest settings period. It does not mean you will be able to do everything , it does not mean you can crank the graphics to max , and it does not guarantee an “enjoyably playable” experience in all content.
7fps in large scale PvP / PvE is more playable than the game simply not running at all , so with those 7fps you have met the minimum requirements.
If you want to try and squeeze out more , then overclock your cpu and gpu , turn settings down – especially shadows , and lower the resolution.I have the same FPS on 800*600 with everything on low and shadows/reflections off and on 1080p with everything on max with shadow and reflections on max.
I work for Texas Instruments and design integrated circuits according to performance specifications. If spec says it will work with those spec then it is expected to work with those specs, not well it works but it’s not really doing what is is supposed to, or it works but gets stuck from time to time. Selling that kind of product in my line of work would end in a lawsuit. Minimum means working at 25fps with everything on lowest settings which here is not the case. I have double the minimum requirements and still have a bad gameplay.
/laff Minimum requirements doesn’t mean 25 fps minimum framerate. Also if you have such a good job you shouldnt have a problem buying a new computer every 4 years. You work for TI and they don’t offer a pc purchase program? Reallllllyyyy?
Taking mental note Use moa on soysauce whenever I see him to see him peck at my team, die and ragequit.
I think the problem is ‘Minimum Requirements’ is ambiguous. The minimum requirements are there as a guideline so when somebody picks up a box of software or downloads the software that they know their computer will run it. The problem is that there is no clear definition for how many FPS you may or may not get with ‘minimum requirements’ on any game. While its true that on many games, the minimum requirements may let you play the game at 25-30 fps, which is playable, There’s no law (afaik) or regulation that requires game companies to post minimum requirements to play the game at, at least, 25-30 fps. So the min reqs for one game could get you 25-30 fps and the min reqs for another game could get you 5 fps. Technically they fulfill min reqs on both of those examples, because the game does in fact run.

protip: try not making your password the same as the username or ‘password’
I would suggest including capital letters, lower case, numbers and symbols in random order. Don’t use your name, your email, or a common word found in the dictionary, those can be hacked much easier.
A. SLI works fine. Driver’s may not be optimized but thats up to Nvidia, not Anet.
B. DX9, er most people can’t run DX9 fast, and you want tessellation?
C. Seriously, I’ve seen I don’t know how many people complain about a 64 bit client. Name one game mmo or otherwise that uses a 64 bit client and/or gives you access to a 64 bit client. The performance gains will be marginal and won’t make the game any more playable for those people complaining about FPS issues on their 4 year old computer.
Have you tried turning high rez textures off? That video card only has 978mbs (if i remember correctly from the game advisor file) dedicated vram and GW2 with everything turned up easily pushes over 1 gb.
Do you notice the fans spinning up and then down in your computer when this happens? Also how old is your computer? Not because I don’t think your computer can handle it but it sounds like it could be some kind of wierd power supply or power management problem. (If the cpu /gpu is fluctuating in how much power its getting its possible that could happen.) I would imagine gw2 would be a lot harder on your system than a decade year old game :p so I don’t think wow has anything to do with it as Wow isn’t maxing out your computer.
