Syr Pharon was a member of the Blood Legion. Despite being a Charr, he was born wiser and less hot-headed than its comrades, quieter and more observant. One day, by exploring a new section discovered in the ancient Catacombs as an assignment from his legion, he was involved in a deadly incident that killed all his comrades. A ghostly spear pierced his chest, stabbing his heart. At first, he felt like dying. But later on, he awakened on the ground of the catacomb, his wounds healed, with him as the only survivor.
Syr Pharon took this as an omen, and from there on, he decided to travel the land to help other people, leaving the Charr society and his warband. He didn’t know that the Foefire had something prepared for him, and that its power was slowly permeating all of his body.

Being a Guardian is not a choice. You are born this way from the very beginning.
You can choose to steal, to take care of your pet, to train yourself and become stronger, to study the elements or the dark arts, to learn tricks to deceive the others, to study technology.
But to become a Guardian takes even more. A rare and unique mixture of Fate, predisposition, insight, vital energy, willpower.

Help for HOM

I know this may sound strange to see on the GW2 forum, but I was thinking:
since GW1 doesn’t have a lot of players anymore, and I’m lacking a decent group, plus I don’t really know the game so much (never done UW or FOW), what do you say about forming a HOM group for GW2 players?

I’m currently at 18/30 and even if I don’t really want to go past 30 (don’t care about the titles) I would still be glad to help.
I’m sure if we unite our forces, with the help of expert players who can help us, we could manage to finish the HoM.

I post this up because I know there are a lot of players (like myself) who have started GW1 only later when its glory days were passed, probably discovering the series with GW2, and wanting those sweet prizes from the Hall, but being unable to do so because of the game’s low population.

If you’d like to add me ingame, I’m Keshi Tora on GW1.
I follow mainly european times, but i’m on the american server because it is the most populated so far, with Kamadan as the central hub.

If you have active guilds on GW1 don’t hesitate to contact.

Hi guys.

I was looking for an offensive build in PvP, something about the meta build, if such a thing exists.
All the existing builds seems outdated to me, and the forum looks quite confusing right now.
If something, I have a sligthly preference for spirit weapons, but it’s not important.

Thanks in advance

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

The wardrobe system was suppsoed to be a huge addition to the game, but instead it’s rather bad and kinda greedy:

- It would have been better if you could consume 1 trans charge per change on the overall appearence (say you want to change shoulders, legs, and helm all in one time? It should consume 1 charge instead of 3).
You should make it so one charge is equal to one overall change (and not to one single piece change), or you are penalizing a great community of players, rp or not, who like to do so.

- The change for the outfits is completely useless now, Anet has left a great system to customize your townclothes for a system who is very poor in customization. Was it really so hard to implement both the systems so you could store your outfits’ skins in your outfit section of the wardrobe and still be able to wear it in combat and change and mixing colors and pieces? You just had to implement both the ways in one without this useless tonic thing.

- The dye confirmation of the 0 charges is useless and a time wasting procedure. Not only this, but a lot of players, including myself, would always feel like they could waste charges if clicking something wrong. So please, get rid of the confirmation of charges on the dye section.

I have to agree with Syrpharon…….one levels pretty quickly for any of this to be much more than a minor annoyance. Unless you have absolutely 0 patience, then I could see how what the OP said might bother a player.

I think most of the changes coming down the pipe look fairly interesting. Of course, I have a few concerns(mostly of the bug nature)…..but guess we will see what the patch is like when it gets here.

Well, I think that if you have 0 patience, you won’t probably choose this gendre, but something more action oriented. And new players usually don’t feel the urge to skip the entire game.

To levle alts, you can simply use your main and swap on dungeon completion.

What is the best combination of professions?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Syrpharon.7491

For teamplay, any profession is ok with any other, so go on what you two want.

For difficulty, though, it depends.
Usually the simplest are the Guardian and the Warrior.
The middle ones are the Thief, the Ranger and the Engineer.
The trickiest ones may be the Elementalist, the Mesmer and the Necromancer.
(Yes, difficulty scales with their armor XD)
But it’s all about what you feel the most in accordance with your personality. Follow your instincts and you can’t be wrong

Would have been better if the charge was consumed per change and not per piece. After all players are going to change style most of the times anyway, It wouldn’t hurt the precious incomings on charges Anet so depserately wants.

This would just require a better understanding of your profession’s skills. Events out there are not hard, especially in lower areas, even for a newbie. Plus, you get most of the exp by exploring, aka wps, pois and hearts, which don’t require any skill at all in 99% of the cases.

I can tell that the only problems about this new system are about the sense of progression and new that a player may feel toward his character, but this could become frustrating in an old style MMORPG. But you level quickly in GW2, even if it’s your first time.

And the lack of utility traits such as the speed boost, but since not all the professions have a speed increase trait or such (Guardians rely on skills for this), that’s not a problem.

Apart for the overpowered skills, the only thing that doesn’t fit the game is a too marked Light/Dark theme.
I know that years of games and medias have filled the brain with duality where heroes of light fought enemies of darkness, but THANK GODS we don’t have such a thing here in GW.

This game is free by this old and overused concept, so here’s my tip: you may like it, but I highly suggest you to search for another theme for your class.
Also, instead of creating a class to adapt to the lore, create a class that is already possible, if not present, in the lore and extrapolate it.

Uhm, if Chinese people would discover about Cantha and Elona, and start pressing for them to happen, we may be able to see it happen.

Sad to say, but I’ve got the feeling now that this western launch was just a huge experimental ground where we are the test subjects and they are testing the LS system, content, things, etc. One year of testing sounds good and plausible.
Also wouldn’t be the first time that a MMORPG takes in bigger consideration the eastern market than the western one. After all we are crumbs compared to over the 1 bilion chinese people alone.

Suggestion for Gem Prices

Syrpharon.7491

Shame on you, guys.

I try to suggest things that would make this game more like a game and less like an economy simulator, especially for players, and what I get are answers that can only state “This is a bad choice because there’s no profit for devs”.

Well, excuse me, but devs are already making a lot of profit with all their advertising campaign about the game being released in other countries, novels, promotional staff in general; consider also that the game is supposed to care about casual players in the first place because this was their main target, and only after them they can consider other playerbases.

Instead what I see it’s just another game that has lost most of its way so I hope that at least they could stress things off by being less greedy at Anet and creating advantages for casual players as well and the playerbase as a whole.

I’m ready to swear that even with this system I’m proposing, people would still pay real money on the spot to get gems. Infact I don’t want my system to give us everything, but to make the effort more easily accesible and determined, so casuals don’t have to see most of the game content locked because of their lack fo time to dedicate to the grind.

Suggestion for Gem Prices

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

I thought about taking example from Dioclezianus: to solve the raising prices problem in the ancient roman empire, he would set from time to time the maximum price permitted to sell things.

So the same could be applied to the Gem / Gold ratio, since right now it doesn’t have much stability and it is doomed to raise even more, penalizing players who don’t want to spend money.

If the gem cap is set, let’s say, to 5 gold = 100 gems, it would still take 40g to get 800 gems, which is a reasonable price for casual players.

This cap could vary, so if Arenanet wants to set it higher in concordance with special events or new additions to the gemstore, it could vary to 10g = 100 gems for the duration of that period, and vary again once it is finished.

Periods could be at their own discretion, but I would suggest to make it around 1-2 months per variation, and the variation could be from a minimum of 1 gold to a maximum of 12g. So even if they would like to set it at higher numbers in a row, there’s still assurance that the number won’t raise.

If people want to buy things immediately, they charge the card (and they will, because most people are impatient), but those who want to use their time to farm can easily do it. On the other hand casual players can log in, run one or two paths, then log out, and little by little they will eventually reach the sum. This would be still possible now, but this suggestion, again, is to rpevent that the gold/gems ratio will raise too much and reach high scales in the future.

I’m suggesting this to make the game in accordance with the spirit of anti-farm and grind as it should be, and to avoid it to go even further in the wrong direction of cash-kitten games.

Critique for Arenanet: Escape from LA

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

- Gameplay: since this is an episode fully dedicated to a siege war, we can’t really complain about it being a full zerg fight. Never like now blaming the devs for creating an episode where zergs proliferate has been more wrong. It seems that lately they have tried to share different kinds of content, and infact the last few episodes wheren’t exactly a zerg fest. Of course there’s much to say about this, but at least we have seen a little improvement in the LS, even if the damage has been already done. Now, only because they decide to dedicate a full episode to a massive “prelude battle” which will bring hopefully to a massive “final battle”, we can’t blame them. Just enjoy this massive scale of battles for what it is, until the next episode. In wvw and pvp you may be accostumed to this kind of battles, but pvers see this only on world bosses, and even then, it’s only about one enemy.

- News: the introduction of a new back item is well welcomed, since the game lacks them, and even the TP doesn’t have a dedicated filter for them. The look is robotic, but the overall style of this LS is some kind of cyber-steam-dark punk. (Can’t help but feel that the game has adopted more and more technological staff as we go on, and I personally miss the ancient and original beauty of the fantasy world of Tyria, where technology wasn’t present in this quantities. Made the world feel purer and more enjoyable). Introducing a back item that can be upgraded at our wish using different tiers of materials is a good idea. A less good idea is to create this receipes without considering the ongoing economy in the game and the prices of the materials, so it ends up being more expensive with one crafting than with the other. To preserve neutrality, this should be avoided at all, and to preserve the possibility for every player, even casuals, to craft this items, you should not ask for rare or expensive materials, nor for huge quantities. Overall it’s a good choice, and we can expect more items that we can upgrade at our will.

- Gemstore: Here I’ll be hard and criticize hard. Aestethically speaking, the new zodiac skin is ugly. It’s not a subjective matter, though: the skin is ugly itself. The shape of azure used shows no light effects on it, making it look blank. The visual effect of the stellar skin is barely visible, and the rest of the armor has shapes, in particular the shoulders, the helm and the boots, that from an artistic point of view are not well balanced or armonic with the rest of the set. The effect of the metal parts of the armor looks like toy plastic when dyed. I understand that the armor has been created to give a particular godlike / aethereal being look, but overall, it should be reskinned with better effects and design. I’m sure you could have done better without using too much particles effects. Also every addition to the gemstore is a less addition to the game, and we can’t be happy about it. Players want content obtainable by playing ingame, without struggling for grind or anything as negative as this. This said, I hope the majority of players will not encourage Arenanet to go into this direction by buying every item they add in the gemstore from time to time, because everytime it happens, it’s a bad thing for the game.

Critique for Arenanet: Escape from LA

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

I’ve played the new content after waiting for it like most of the players now, and I’m finally able to critize the new episode:

- The city is well done. It has been reduced to a huge warzone where there is pure chaos. The feeling of being in the middle of a war and a siege, surrounded by enemies, forced to find your way in a chaotic miasma, with events popping out all around you with almost no clue to what is going to happen and where, contributes to the atmosphere that this assault created. Obscuring the entire map with the red fog, makes players concerned only on the map and the situation once inside.

- Little curiosities and transformations about the city are good indeed. The player feels kinda nostalgic to see the central plaza reduced to ashes where the day before he was quietly using the bank, the forge, and walking like any day. At a first impact, it gives you a small chill, reserved for those who really enjoy full immersion in a game. A good job has been done in characterizing specific areas in LA, like the house covered by an impenetrable shield, belonging to an asura who was ready with security systems, or the Tengu gate, where you can see Tengus inside the walls shooting arrows and killing without mercy whatever approaches (with 100% efficiency, would have liked a better participation from them, but it looks like they’re still neutral).

- Fighting all these enemies together means that players have to be careful about their particular attacks. Versus Aetherblades you have to be careful about the control effects, while the Moltens launch fire fields that really hurts. Even if after learning the mechanics you can simply do this automatically, at first there’s still this little glance of attention demanded from the players that need to know what they are doing. Overall, it’s surely harder than fighting only one kind of enemy, and many fall because they don’t pay attention to the particular attack of that alliance.

- The different events going on, despite what anybody could say, are enancing this feeling of chaos and disaster. Some of them are strange, like children who run too slowly, but overall they are good to go, and they are involving what there was in LA before. Again, feels good on a lore side.

- Lore here isn’t really well explained, apart for the cinematic, but it was because the devs wanted to skip long parts, immersing the player into action almost immediately. This could be a way to also make you wonder the quickness of the attack. Something different, more immersive instead of a cutscene that explains what has already happened, would feel better.

Guild Wars 2: Then and Now

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

When it launched it was purer than now, so obv people could enjoy the game for what it was.
Now it has gone through different changes that have made it worse.

- The economy penalizes the casul players, because community still sell at a very high cost compared to the possibilities of a casual, so some items will always be locked for him. In a horizontal progression, locking the skin or the item is a way to keep players from getting what they want. Rising the gold gained per dung run has only a raising in the costs effect from the community. And there’s still no way to earn this items in a less grindy way, where GW2 was supposed to be grindy at the minimum. Same goes for RNG, it’s presence is still too high.

- LS has been overall badly written, and even if there are one or two episodes that brought good lore to the game, the results of some good story telling were visible only after a mass complain from the community about it. This gives us a very bad impression, like the team can’t really give us their best shots unless we blame them.

- The introduction of ascended gear in all its forms has been seen as a breaking promise from Anet, where at the start they didn’t want to introduce something like this. Since a lot of players where from old gen MMOs, they wanted vertical progression, and Anet was forced to introduce it. Even if it doesn’t affect gameplay so much, it is still considered a betrayal by some of the players.

On the other hand, there are very good points:
- People complain only about the same things, because the game is overall solid. A lighthouse in the ocean of MMOs. So nothing can’t be said about the basic structure of the game, where other MMos, even now, lack solid ground.

- The LS idea is very good, and it’s the only reasonable way to manage a game like this, which counts on keeping attention without forcing to play. A lot of players found it irritant that after 2 weeks everything was gone, saying that it wasn’t enough to enjoy the episode, and sometimes it was true. Other times, though, it was perfect. Overall, this isn’t something that you see often in MMos, and if the team could be more dedicated and would make less errors in terms of taste and involvement, it would be a life changer for the game, more than it is now.

- This is the first game in which if I would spend money, I wouldn’t regret it. I see potential all over the place, and everything is good to make it work. Lore, gameplay, system, even art is very good. I’ll never stop to praise the art and the style because it’s unique and sober at the same time. Playing the game, even on those rare occasions when I have to grind, is somehow enjoyable, and never frustrating like it was with other MMos. I foudn ridiculous that new MMos like ESO are trying the same old system, and the only reason i can find is, they do it because they have a wider merchandise to bring on, where GW has always been a MMO on its own.

A city there would be too rushy and kinda useless:
1) first, there’s too much wildlife to build a solid and secure city
2) second, there’s no reason to do so lore wise, because there are already many cities, and it’s not like you can’t enter there.
3) third, gameplay wise, you don’t get anything particular from a new city, besides maybe some new points for exploration and the local enjoyment until you’ve seen it all.
4) That area should be rewamped with something more profitable, but since they already did it once and it worked only until the hype went away, I don’t think they will modify it anytime soon.
Okay, it’s an exotic area, nothing more.
5) To add new areas, better expand the existing map with actual new areas.

Now they cry over LA like it’s some kind of sanctuary or what…

GW2 should never become a console game.
It was born with the PC intent and should remain like this.

Opening the game to an entire different audience of players that have a completely different mind about their games, since they play them on consoles with different mechanisms that often change if not penalize games in terms of gameplay and settings, means that GW2 should listen to two different communities that start from two different points of view.

So the game would become an orphan, since it would listen to different suggestions that would always care about adjusting the game on their system, ignoring the other. Anet would be split in half and the game would result in having low quality for more quantity, which is not convenient.

The average PC player is more careful about the game because it must learn to manage even the technical aspects and gameplay aspects.
The average console player usually needs or expects to just play the game, without worrying about it too much.

Some people never have heard something about long term goals as it seems.

I know what long term goals are, but let’s be realistic… 2+ years for the average Joe Blog player to get just the boots, IS ludicrous. I’ve been playing since the 3 day pre-launch of GW2 and I’m at almost 7.9k achievement points – and I play A LOT. A couple of my friends are hard-core players and have managed to obtain between 15-16k points, and even they haven’t been able to obtain the boots yet, so I don’t even have to imagine how insanely stupid it will be to obtain the legs, let alone the chest at this rate.

If Anet wanted to make a prestigious armor set(s?) that takes a long time to get and something that people would truly strive for, what they should have done was make ascended armor slightly harder to obtain than it is currently, but in doing so, really make it worth your time by making the graphics of it uber sweet – as an example, below is some concept art by Anet that somehow never became a reality as potential armor sets in GW2 – why it never happened completely baffles me because it’s simply stunning, and I feel they missed a great opportunity to make it something special. If perhaps the achievement armor were this good looking, I wouldn’t mind it taking 2+ years to obtain just the helm, gloves, mantle and boots, but the way it is now, I personally think it’s ridiculous. Two+ years just for ONE pair of achievement boots? One would think it’s April Fools day :-/

Those are not armors, but characters on their own. Plus it’s GW1 concept, and cannot be implemented right away due to time changes that occured in the game.

In the specific, you picked up very particular designs. Wearing a Margonite, a serve of Abaddon, or a god, is a very big deal, and it seems that they wanted to make things more realistic and less powerful compared to GW1 due to many changes, like the gods that left the world.

Radiant and hellfire are particular, but not so great: radiant is just exaggerated in its appearence, hellfire on the contrary is pretty boring. So yeah, you can farm points, but not really a good looking set.

Weak and Don't know why.

You have to think that every zone you go will always be a challenge, and being lv80 will not make you a god against the mobs because you will be their level anyway. So In any case you need to fight and play with purpouse.

What Class to Get?

Try a mesmer. Mobility is where this class shines, IMO. Not as squishy as a thief, and with the proper skills and traits, you can get away from anyone when necessary to reset a fight or simply escape to fight another time.

And they use greatswords to shoot magic beams…
Seriously, greatswords to Mesmers and Guardians are without warhorns…

So many feels.

To see it burn and truly get attacked and possibly destroyed actually brought a few manly tears to my eyes.

Yeah. All kinds of bodily fluid tried to come out of me all at once when I watched the trailer of Escape for Lion’s Arch.

Lol, really?

Changing the face of Tirya should be all the following things:
- Modification of existing areas (Kessex Hills)
- Destruction of LA
- Introduction of new areas and possible content (Tengus as playable and Dominion of the Wind)

Other than this, it’s not worth it.

Where we can run?
