Necromancer???, more like Conjurer

kitten guys, you’ve got it all wrong.
RapidSausage didn’t want to compare to the detail GW1 and GW2 here.
Just wanted to point out that the Necromancer isn’t up to its name.

Now, most of the guys here have given good points to why the Necromancer is what it is now, but you have to consider other things:
- You pointed out that the Necro is doing things that are not its anymore, but you should remember that this professions we have now are the synthesis of all the professions we had back then. So of course you’ll find some Ritualist influence in the spellcasters here.
- Necros don’t have to deal with just dead bodies, but they deal with the sources of life and death, the first one being symbolized by blood and souls and the last one being symbolized by dead corpses. So you have to look at it overall.
- This doesn’t mean that your suggestion is pointless. It’s true that would feel more necroing to see this characters performing rituals over corpses to revive them. But for this, you can look at logistics. Unless each corp could be used by every necro once.
- Black magic has a lot of things to deal with, and Necromancer is just a name to indicate a dark spellcaster in this game. As much as they tried to make it a necromancer, of course it can’t be a true necromancer due to game needings. For example, is very unlikely for a true necromancer to head into a dungeon with a group of people and fight actively because you would expect for a necro to be a very subtle, avoiding person who prefers quiet and loneliness. But ehi, everything for the sake of gaming, right?

One or two times it happened that I was running a dungeon and since I’m a Guardian the boss comes after me with a strange look in its eyes.
The fact is that sometimes, despite my best, me and the boss die at the same time, resulting in the most impatients party members to take their loot and leave, forcing me out.

Question is: do we really need to get teleported out of the dungeon if the opener leaves?
I’ve missed my loot a few times and it wasn’t cool.

Your best looking character.

The term “greatsword” does not specify the weight. Even long sword could be used with a single hand (but not dual wielded). Dual wielded weapons were rather daggers or short swords and not swords.
1.5kg is the weight of katanas, which were one-and-half-handers for slender humans. European swords were not much heavier (afaik).

5kg is rather a hammer, than a sword, which is still mean to cut, not crush.

On contrary, bows were heavy and strong. Since you didn’t mobility, you could be sturdy. Heavy bows with strong strings to reach more than 20m needed strong guys.

I think there is a misunderstanding here: by both hands I mean one in the main hand and one in the off hand, not both hands on one sword.

Yeah … all those rangers and mesmers with soulbound legendary greatsword shall salvage them and redo the work to get another.

Uhm, that’s true. it would be better not to put down weapons but only add ones

If three classes don’t need a bigger choice of weapons those were Warrior, Guardian and Ranger.

You’re considering only the number of weapons here, but I’m more concerned about giving them combinations without denaturalizing the classes with weapons that don’t match them.

I don’t understand how you let Ranger dual wield swords and say that the GS is too heavy …

It’s simple, the average weight for a greatsword is about 5 kg, while a one handed sword can be about 1,5 kg. But a greatsword is heavy to swing even with two hands, while one handed sword is not much of an effort. Since Ranger are not huge people and muscled guys who rely on brute strenght to hit, but are more about tactics and swiftness, a dual wield would help them fighting with lightness while hitting vital points.

Even if there are already rumours about giving each class the possibility to use all the weapons, I thought about a possible re-arrangement of the currently availability to make each weapon perfectly matched with the class that they are going to be with.
Even if the initial matching is good, I see potential; following are the slight additions that I would make with the current weapons, while trying to preserve the feeling that each profession should give.

To be honest, I don’t feel like each class should be open to all the weapons because otherwise professions would lose that sense of uniqueness and difference. I know that most of you would like to amplify their skill sets, but I encourage this by adding new weapons to the game.

Elementalist
NEW – Sword – In the main hand only, a one-handed sword is a must for almost each class. Spellcasters can use it without risks, and it provides basic defense without unbalancing the schemes, since they can summon conjured weapons of other kind.
NEW – Torch – In the off hand only, a torch is a common tool that anyone can use, providing already existing flames to manipulate fire, or already existing fire to interact with other elements.
NEW – Scepter – In both hands. It would be a good matching to use two scepters at once to power up their spells.

Warrior
Warriors have already access to most of the weapons in game, so there’s really few that can be done here.
NEW – Torch – In both hands. Common tool that can be used by everyone, but of course warriors would use it in a more offensive way.

Guardian
NEW – Shield – In both hands. A pure defensive bodyguard focused on pushing back enemies while standing on its ground and resisting or blocking attacks.
NEW – Warhorn – In off hand only. Inspiring courage and boons that your voice alone can’t provide.
NEW – Mace – In both hands. Because a double club fits the figure of a Guardian.

Engineer
NEW – Torch – In off hand only. Fire is always good for gunpowders.

Ranger
NEW – Dagger – In both hands. It won’t create much problems, but it would provide a more savage look.
NEW – Sword – In both hands. It’s a basic weapon who don’t slow them down.
NEW – Rifle – To provide a more hunter look which can fit in with modern techs.
DOWN – Greatsword – It’s too heavy in concept for a character like a ranger to swing. Original, but heavy.

Thief
NEW – Rifle – A good addition to provide a more sniping attitude.

Necromancer
NEW – Torch – In off hand only. Greenish fire is a good way to cauterize and reduce everything to ashes.
NEW – Shortbow – Spreading malary and pestilence through arrows.

Mesmer
NEW – Longbow – Nobles are supposed to know archery too.
NEW – Rifle – Hunting for nobility
DOWN – Greatsword – It’s not so elegant, after all.

All the old classes have been included in the new professions, so you may find a tiny bit of Dervish in some of them, though I can’t really say which ones.

Anyway, according to the story, Elona is now off-limits, and therefore we have no more Dervishes around.

But if in the future they are going to do something about it, I wouldn’t expect a Dervish, rather than a new profession that somehow gets inspiration by it, with a middle eastern, african look.

my fav is guardian followed by mesmer. Hmm.. can I like black, sharks and dragon and still enjoy a guardian? or am I some kind of outlier?

There are a lot of people who prefer something but have tastes that go away from the classical portrait that profession may be. For example:

We may know that Warriors are always being the top tier damage class, the strong one, the ferocius one, full attack – less defense class. So they usually match it with the color Red, or warm colors, with aggressive kind of animals such as predators, or with tanks or motorbikes or sport cars. It’s a stereotype, nothing more, nothing less.

But indeed a lot of people think “out of the box” or have very particular tastes that apparently don’t match with each one, but that person can somehow organize together.

It’ s an awesome thing that shows us how different we are, though we may have traits in common.

Some thoughts on Tengu and Mursaat

in Lore

Syrpharon.7491

Yesterday I was playing with a friend just known on the spot who is a huge fan of the White Mantles.
He was so passionate about the lore of GW and knew a lot about it that I gladly listened to his tellings, to the point that he was showing me around some interesting places that I noticed while exploring, but didn’t really know anything about.

In short I came to know the situation between Mursaat and White Mantles in GW1, which I played but couldn’t really remember all the details.
He told me that the Mursaat are a strong and ancient race of spellcasters that travel in other planes of existence.

He also said that the wall to the Tengu’s dominion in the Caledon Forest has this Mursaat-like statues carved in it, but somehow their heads are always covered by trees. The rest of the body, though, looks similar to those of the Mursaat.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/b/b3/Dominion_of_Winds_%28Caledon_Forest%29.jpg
If the image is not clear, I invite you to visit the place in game and see for yourselves.

Also he told me that this wall is said to have came out of nowhere in almost an istant, immediately appearing; also, he added that the wall appeared around the happening of the Great Tide that occured when Zhaitan awake from his sleep.

Since Tengu where present on Kryta and Cantha, but then they were forced to leave Cantha, and since the happening of this events, my hypothesis is:

Could it be that the Tengu, being forced to leave Cantha, decided to close themselves in their territory, and against the menace of a giant cataclism like the rise of the elder dragons, they asked Mursaat to prevent their homeland to be destroyed, and the least created a giant wall that would stop the waves? In exchange, the Tengu would secretly worship the Mursaat and dedicate themselves to them?

It sounds crazy, but here I’m providing some questions that need to be answered in order to disprove this theory:

1) Are Tengu still speaking about the Sky Above the Sky?
- If yes, they may be still preserving their religion while worshipping them, maybe encouraged by the fact that Mursaat travel between planes. The Sky Above the Sky could have been interpreted by Tengu like the plane of existence from which the Mursaat come.
- If no, maybe it’s because they dedicated themselves to the Mursaat.

2) The dates of the events:
- The great wall really appeared when the giant wave occured? If yes, it could be possible: if no, then this theory is compromised.
- The exodus of the Tengu from Cantha happened before or after the great wave?

3) Are Tengu ever being considered hostile by Krytans?
- If yes, then their confinement is more predictable and would not be considered suspect.
- If not, why they should close each doorway to other races by simply saying “We don’t trust you?” It would be logical to think they are hiding something.

4) Was the old territory where the dominion of the winds is located a forest with white mantles temples, or mursaat temples, or any magical place that could have influenced the Tengu or the Mursaat to come in contact?

If you have any more questions or know better then me, please let’s discuss. I’m looking forward to know if something like this could be possible.

Hi guys, this is the situation: now I’m playing on the NA servers but I’d like to play on the EU servers as well.

So, since I can’t pay the gems’ price for a change of server, I thought of creating a second account somehow linked to my purchased copy, to have two accounts; one on the NA and the other on the EU servers.

In other words, I’m looking to have two different accounts linked to the same copy of the game, with a method that would certify I am the owner of these two accounts and therefore of the copy.

Is this possible to do? If yes, how?

(last minute thinking: probably no, because then people would just make two different accounts instead of paying the gems for server change, but I’m willing to ask anyway, you never know).

I’d say it’s a 7/10

The job on your armor is ok, but the color scheme is not convincing.
It looks good because it doesn’t hurt, but it’s not something that gives you an hurray.

Guess what guys, my guardian is back in an upgraded look!
If you remember I had troubles finding a good looking pair of boots: well, I think I’ve found them

Order of whispers’ boots are good and balance the look, also the small belts are awesome on the t3 bands leggings.

And since last time I promised some nude pictures to show the color matching of the fur and hair too, here they are.

Colors on the armor are:
Icing for the white
Redemption for the yellow
Red for the red (XD)
Siena for the brown
Sky for the hair and eyes XD (this color matches his story, he had troubles with the Foefire :P).

The first 3 pictures show him in a lighter version of his armor (shoulders, gauntlets and helm off) for when he’s at rest or doesn’t need big protections (he enjoyed the Order of Whispers after all, he learned how to be sneaky… a little :P)

The last picture shows the armor with the celestial dye (IF I HAD IT!)
Broke as hell ç_ç, that’s why I tried to use cheap dyes (ah, get this economy!)
Since last time I left the blueish guardian look to embrace a more seraphic or majestic Guardian look.
Now if only they’d release eagle wings for back items

Hi guys, the problems have returned: I log in, play for 5 minutes, then screen freezes and the pc reboots.

I suspect I have to settle my GPU for good, but I don’t know how, so If you could help me I’d be very grateful.

Also somehow loading screens have become slower than before and I often see the game loads windows like inventory or character panel slower.
I get a drop in the FPS just by having the guild panel on.

My specs are

AMD Phenom II x4 965 Processor
8 Gb RAM
The graphic card you can see in the image
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

I noticed you posted the idle temperature of your graphics card. What is the load temperature of your graphics card? Play Guild Wars 2 for a few minutes, then check the temperature.

Just now I’ve tried to open the game to screen the temp but it did the same things of before in the character screen, almost immediately.

It could be the temp though, because I do remember that the game runs ok at night, while is cooler, but freezes and crashes on daytime, while is way too hot

The temp though usually goes around 53 – 56° while the game is running, and the activity panel shows 42 – 48% activity (this is all on the Amd control center panel)

Well 56C isn’t a problem for your GPU. I would expect it to use more than 50% usage though. Perhaps your graphics card isn’t totally being utilized or perhaps your graphics options are set lower than needed. Was this temperature reading during the daytime or nighttime?

What about the temperature of your CPU? Can we get and idle and load temperature of that as well?

About the graphic options, it could be, because I had to set them like this or no game, may it be GW2 or another, would have gone without rebooting.
Infact I don’t have any clue how to balance these settings, but the worst part is, nobody on the internet seems to have a clue about how to settle your GPu and memory right.
Other than the values you see in the Amd control panel, everything else reboots my pc.

About the CPU temp, according to ASrock extreme Tuner, they are at 41 C° while running GW2.
The readings I gave you before were also done on daytime.

Here’s my Guardian with complete look

9/10

You know what? I’ve been wondering how best to get that chest piece to fit on my Guardian, I think you’ve done a great job with matching it to the armour and a nice colour scheme. However I think the Plated boots are a bit too heavy looking for the rest of the set, makes it almost look like you’re boots are the heaviest part of your suit of armour. Being able to show of that fur pattern is great, that’s another great thing that adds to your look.

Thanks, next time I’ll post some naked picture to show the color matching done on the skin and hair too
Anyway, I’m yet to find a good matching pair of boots. The shoulders are so wide that normal boots (aka t3 cultural) looks even tinier in comparison.
For now I’ve got them to balance the figure with the upper part, but I wonder if the Order of Whispers boots could go well (I’ve seen some of them and it’s the only one I see fitting for now)

i say 5/10, but we all have to start somewhere

lvl 80 Charr Elementalist, Saigai Stormclaw

uhm, the color scheme is almost good, but the figure is not good to look at, it gives a slight impression of unbalanced. You should try with different tones, lighter or darker.
For the armor, I would get rid of these shoulders: they look way too savage to be combined with something as detailed as a coat.

Overall 4/10

I have to admit I didn’t read all of the OPs points, I got through a post and a half without agreeing with a single thing and decided I’d almost certainly have the same reaction to the rest of it.

Honestly I’m skeptical about how much these people really miss GW1. Like GW2 the game is buy to play, there’s no subscription and the servers are still running so if they really want to they can go back at any time.

And sure, if you log on to GW1 chances are you’ll encounter a few bitter peopl ranting about GW2 in the main cities, but not nearly as many as there seem to be here talking about how much better it was. Which suggests to me that for whatever reason they’re not opting to go and play the game they apparently prefer.

And kind of related to that point I think a lot of it is nostalgia more than anything. Every so often I find myself thinking I miss GW1 and that certain things were so much better in that game. But then when I start playing it again (which I do every so often) I find myself frustrated by things that were changed for GW2. Yes it’s nice to be able to map travel for free, but it’s a lot nicer to be able to log off in the middle of a zone and not have to start from the begining (especially in Prophecies where some zones are a long way from an outpost), or to be able to stop off at any heart NPC or other vendor and empty my inventory without going back to a town or outpost. And being able to move in combat!

I loved GW1 and played it regularly for 5 years. I still do love it for what it is. But given the choice (and fully aware I have that choice, I’m reminded every time I log in to GW2 because the GW1 icon is right above it on my desktop) I’ve chosen to play GW2 instead the vast majority of times.

Edit: Also I don’t think people are that oblivious to their own thoughts and feelings. The majority of people who say they prefer GW1 have not brought up any of these points, except for occasionally complaining about the quality of the story-telling. I think if someone says they miss heroes or the ability to choose all their own skills or instanced explorable areas chances are that is what they miss, rather than misinterpreting their feelings about the level of technology in Tyria.

It is also nostalgia indeed, but here I’ve tried to explain why that nostalgia has happened.
Also, in the premise I’ve said that I wanted to leave away people who were talking about missing a specific part of the game, such as game design, mechanics, etc. because it obviously has to do with the system. I’m refeering here to those guys who said they’ve got nostalgic for GW1 but don’t really have a particular reason, they just point out “Ah, the good old times”.
If they knew what they missed about GW1 they would probably say it, instead sometimes they just say it was better and that’s all.
Here I’ve tried to examine the thing and try to figure it out to make it visible and why not, help everyone, players and devs, in any way it can help.

Syrpharon.7491

Expansions: This is something we can’t talk about yet because GW1 showed us other cultures, other civilizations, making us explore other sides of the world of Tyria. It was beautiful because we could explore other places and meet other people, not only the classical fantasy world, but also an oriental and a Middle East / african world.
Unless you are a bigot, you enjoy doing the same in the real world too. It’s called curiousity and gives us this feeling that what we don’t know, we want to know.
Plus, GW1 was based on the real world cultures, just presented in a more mythological way, and this is what was one of its strong points.
GW2, instead, is acting like a general mix of everything, where indeed we don’t have the possibility to look at the original places. We are stuck in Tyria, we know that for now we cannot go anywhere, so we somehow feel pressed and limited, and of course we don’t like it.
Moreover, when first playing Prophecies, we couldn’t know they were going to expand the already existing world, and when Factions came out, it was a big surprise.
After all, in GW1 we already had almost all the possible environments: plain, mountains, snow, desert, volcano, forest and jungle.
In order to expand everything, they had to create new continents, or else everything in Tyria would have been too repetitive.
But here, on GW2, there was a regression. Even the existing world of Tyria is limited to us, and most of the areas we could explore before are closed.
We can no longer go to a desertic place, or a pure magmatic place, or in a jungle: instead we have the continent of Orr which is a good way to present an aquatic ambience. We can also go underwater for that matter, so somehow they gave us underwater worlds for what we can’t have now.
The problem is that underwater worlds are not so different like surface worlds, so it gives always the same feeling.
It also means that we can expect these areas to get unlocked in the future, probably thanks to a living story passage (because an expansion for these areas is way too wasted). But we already know these places from the previuos game and the only reason to go there is to see what has changed in 250 years. So basically it’s like giving us the illusion of something new while indeed it is something we already know with just some differences.
One of the strong points in GW1 was the exploration because the world is well done and resembles the real one, though it has that fantasy appeal. It didn’t have this geometrical divison neither, making it more natural and less forced. That’s why you liked it.
Here in GW2 the world is way too small. We have more actions and more ways to walk, but we lack quantity. Also the way each area is divided seems way too forced: there are big rocks or mountains everywhere, forming a squared area. It doesn’t feel right.
Also we had the possibility to visit other continents, while now we are forced to stay here (just for now we hope), so it’s like looking at the big picture and then being able to see just a corner of the painting.

Syrpharon.7491

Story: Another thing that influences the perception of the game is the way we go through personal history. Despite the difficulties that an author may encounter to create a story that fits every race and every possible origin, everything heads to only one possible explanation: Militaristic characters.
The overall personal development gives you the feel of being a soldier rather than a citizen, or a person. The problem is that in order to face the elder dragons, there was the need to create a great army. So everyone is no more an adventurer or a citizen. You are instead a soldier, and your only purpose in the game is to fight the dragons, and the enemies.
Now, of course in GW1 you did the same, but there was a key element here. The attitude and the way it is presented was different.
In GW1 the overall feeling was that of an adventurer who happens to help others and fight the great evil because during his adventures it met them. There was still a casual element that contributed to avoid this feel of predestined and forced.
In GW2 instead you are brought into action from the very beginning: it is a dynamic game, it has a world collapsing, so is somehow understandable that they want you to experience fight from the very beginning, but everything just yells this: “Fight, fight, fight”. And people treat you most ot the times like this: a fighter.
They focused more on the relationships between races then on the relationships between characters and world.
Only recently they have tried to create a living story that wasn’t only about fighting, but was about involving you in a murder case. It is welcomed, but it’s still too modern. In order to get the attention of people, there is the need of more stories like fairytales, where there is a drama, and there are very iconic characters that we can feel alive.
In GW1 there was Gwen. We followed Gwen’s life from her early ages until her youth, until she becomes the mature commander she was. Gwen really gives you a sensation of progression, and the tragedy of her story is well done. You get to feel sad for her.
In GW2 we probably can’t live this again, because now all the races are united, and the only way to feel involved is against the major treats. The scale of the events is way too big to feel compassionate for somebody. One thing was just Ascalon, but in the entire world, how can we be so concerned if they kill people who we didn’t know? Also the way they present them to us is just “casualties”.
But again there are a few exception. Tybalt. Tybalt is that character that just gets you with his kindness and cuteness, and shows some personality. He is indeed a person who wasn’t born to fight, was born in the wrong society (Charrs who are compassionate and passive?), and was forced in this war. But other than him, nothing.

Characters: The dynamic nature of the game requires dynamic characters. The problem is that in this way we don’t feel those characters as deep as they should be. Again, Tybalt is well done, but what about the others? Nothing.
The entire Destiny’s Edge doesn’t give you nothing: they are the example of these characters created just to have some strong and typical figures who end up in being too stereotyped. Again, lack of personality.
Also, we often meet characters who treat this war like it was nothing, trying to lower the atmosphere of epicness with their soooo foregone irony.
This speech lowers the quality of the game, reducing drastically the involvment.
Almost every major character behaves like it must have the last word.
There is somekind of egocentric way that makes you feel sorrounded by guys too full of themselves.
Where is the struggle? Everyone behaves like the task is already done, and when they try to give it some importance, the struggle itself end up in being too easy.
In GW1 you could somehow feel not too strong, but not too weak neither.
In GW2 you feel too strong or too weak.

About your feels toward GW

Hi guys, I’ve read a lot of topics regarding people missing GW1 and all the world of Tyria as it was before. A lot of people thought it is because GW2 doesn’t have specific mechanics, others because GW1 was better planned and all.

Well, I thought about it a little bit, and I’ll try to give you an explanation that you may find true or not: it’s all about the way you feel, but I hope that I can help you to define those feels. In this topic I’ll use what I remember of GW1 to help my explanations with examples.

Let’s begin.

Nature: The key element about why you feel so nostalgic about GW1 is the total absence of any kind of technology. Indeed history teaches us that the more you develop technological stuff, the more people will become skeptical about what it can’t understand.
Technology is something that mankind builds for the sole sake of being useful to something: may it be scavenging, transporting, etc.
It usually doesn’t give the same feelings art do, though sometimes people like to build technological stuff out of an artistic ispiration.
Anyway, the key point here is that before the world of Tyria was more magical, if we want to say, more innocent, purer.
There was no technology then, besides the medieval inspired tech; everything else was possible because of magic.
Rituals, gods, mystical beasts were given for granted and accepted while exploring the world, and this was one of the best reasons why GW1 had such an ascendent on players.
It was a classical fantasy world. Wizards, demons, supernatural beings, all mixed together to create the world of Tyria.
Nowadays, why GW2 doesn’t feel as great?
Because people have changed. Because people reclaims technology as something that is necessary but still desperately wants magic to be possible.
Nowadays, we can see how the Black Citadel has become a concentrate of industrial life. How Rata Sum has developed holograms and an even more futuristic tech. Guns, rifles, flamelaunchers, warships, cannons and such have almost replaced the summoned fire from the formula of the mage, or the earth spell channeled by the mystic. Elixirs, potions, are starting to being used over healing magics.
Gods have abandoned this world, the races are transforming the landscapes forever. And also we have titanic creatures such as elder dragons now that gives us the feel that the world doesn’t matter anymore, that it is nothing, because they could easily destroy it.

This world has become too similar to our real world. The historical progression is way similar to ours, and after all I’ve always had this sensation since I read the lore.
Before, Tyria was like the Middle Age of our history, and now, after 250 years, we are going through what we could consider Renaissance and Industrial Revolution / Enlightenment. So the fantastic element is not as strong as before.
That’s why you feel nostalgic towards GW1: it gave you something precious for your person, something that helps you become a man: fantasy.
Lost that, you are left whith only one possible world before your eyes, and suddenly you feel limited.

Game crash after 10 minutes or so

Hi guys, since the last update the game is crashing after around 10 minutes from logging in.
Everything’s fine, then suddenly the screen freezes and the pc reboots.

Windows 7 64-bit Sp1
8 Gb Ram
Amd Phenom II x4 965
Amd Radeon HD 7800
ASRock 970 Pro3

The game runs smoothly with almost everything at max (except for LOD on High and Shadows on Medium for higher FPS). It just lowers the fps a little bit while I turn the camera around but until now I played without problems.

AMD Vision Engine Control Center
I keep the Gpu on 515 Mhz and the memory clock on 935 Mhz with -20% of voltage. CPU is at 2700 Mhz or 2200 Mhz.
AMD Overdrive and GPU Overdrive are activated while CPU Overdrive is not.
The temp. has never gone above 50 – 53 C° but I don’t think is overheating because all the fans work well.
The Pc is pretty new, bought this April, and I clean it up with caution every 20 days.

I use this values because after trying different combinations (I have no idea how to balance performance between different pc parts) I’ve found that the game only functioned with these settings. Every other modification would have resulted in unbalance, game crash and then pc rebooting.

Charr Guardians

Guys, seriously, You’ve got it all wrong.

Guardians are a spiritual class. What the creators call magic is in truth something that regards inner power, willpower, or essence.

True, they’re magical users, but their magic is different from other magical sources: they don’t need to study it or cast it, they just summon it from themselves. They do this in different ways, that’s why everyone can potentially be a Guardian, provided he has the right attunement.

Spirit Weapons are indeed parts of their spirit materialized through their concentration in physical forms to harm or protect; Virtues are their inner strenght used to inspire others; Shouts to keep others motivated and comfort them. Signets are used as symbols to canalyze their motivation, think of them like the necklace of your loved one, you would give them a deep meaning and receive in change great emotional spin.

The condition for the Guardians is the blue fire, or mystic fire. It is a spiritual fire that burns only under certain conditions; may it be burning only the evils, or only those who are your enemies, or only those who have committed a particular action. This fire is the very essence of the Guardian, and in particular of all the celestial beings, since Fire has always been considered, in medieval times and religious views, the very element of God and its angels. In a way, Guardians are closer to the spiritual and supernatural dimension of the world, looking at it with different eyes.

Guardians don’t have religions or something, they have creeds. But their creeds are personal and unique for each one. That’s why Guardians cannot be classified, because each Guardian class in the world of Tyria is a Guardian because of a very personal reason.

I can be a guardian because as a human I have a great faith in the six gods; I can be one because as an asura I have deep trust in the eternal alchemy; as a Charr I may have loyalty and unconditioned duty or sense of honor toward my comrades and warband, but these are just few and simple examples.

Now, about the original question, why can’t they use rifles.
Well, it’s not that they can’t, in fact I would love to use rifles on guardians because I think it would suit them (and compensate for the lack of ranged weapons we have). The point is that maybe here rifles and pistols are way too technological for them (according to the creators mind); this or just that they already decided to give them to a heavy armored class and they didn’t want to have both of them with guns. But for Charrs we already have the Charrzooka (by the way i find it good and I don’t understand why people complain about it).

@VeeVy: looks cool, the colors you used are well matched 8/10

@dragonrhapsody: It has a brute air and an engeneer look, but it gives a blank impression. Work on the color matching 6/10

Here’s mine, the armor is still in development, but I was inspired by this spot in the caverns for the colors.
I’ve added a few without the chest piece because occasionally He would fight with his bare body (it’s part of the character :P)

So basically with torment on your only option is:
Melee: immobilize the enemy and teleport / rushing / leaping via skills to it
Ranged: Hit from the distance of course.

In both ways we should consider a few things before allarming:
- Would evading count as movement or is just WASD?
- Will this Torment last only a few seconds?

If above are true, maybe is acceptable, because it should be meant to limit your options, not to make you a standing target :/

Current Server: Crystal Desert
Interested Activities: Socialising, Dungeons, PvE, Chatting (a lot) about everything, Role Playing (though I don’t know much about the lore and anything, but I’m trying to learn something when I’ve got time to spare).
Active: Pretty much every day, times are very flexible and change due to work.
Additional Comments: I like to make people comfortable and I’m absolutely open minded, so if you want to talk about something you think is weird, say it and don’t worry. I also like to help people if possible and sometimes I act as a paternal figure, dispensing advices. Oh, also I’ve got turquoise hair XD

Does Your Class/Role Reflect Your Personality

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

My character here has been made considering everything of myself.
I don’t like to create characters just to play, I want them to reflect me as much as they can: of course by still being in the limits of what you can or cannot do in the game.
By the way, I’ve found myself overall satisfied with the possibilities here, otherwise it would have been a psychological study rather than a game. I like to make perfect characters but I don’t want to spend too much time on their creation.

This said, let’s get started:
Race: I’ve chosen Charrs because they are a lot like me: spartan tastes, attitude and love for fight, they are born-leaders but also trustfull comrades when it comes to honor and such, but they also have this side who wants freedom and merits all for themselves. They can be very aggressive at the times, almost all of them are stubborn, and have hierarchies based on power and strenght. On the other hand, they are also capable of great kindness and gentleness. Also, most of my friends say I look like a lion, and indeed I like lions a lot, and since Charrs are feline-like…

Profession: Guardian. I had no doubt about it. If I were a living person in GW2 I would be definitely a Guardian. Why?
First of all Shouts; in real life I always help people as much as I can whenever they ask me or need, especially friends. I inspire them to get the best out of them on any field: may it be friends from the gym which I aid by motivating them with words and help and advices, or closer friends which may need somebody to talk to. Hence the act of speaking, or yelling, for them, therefor Shouts.
Second, Virtues: I decided that in my life I want to be a virtuous and morally intact man, and I confirmed this after studying chinese philosophy and the confucian aspect of the Virtue (Dè). Since Confucius said that Virtue is also something that inspires people automatically if the virtuous man is honest and pure, I can’t think of any other profession out there more suited.
Third, Weapons: Guardian has the weapon choise I like, especially the greatsword, the shield and the staff. Since it is a magical and a physical character all in one, plus a paladin that has great defense, It is the best I could think of. I am a person who has a good range of talents, and likes to be versatile in every subject, so being a complete character is a must.
Fourth, Elements: Instead of the more natural fire that Elementalists can cast, Guardians are indeed spiritual and willpowered creatures that use their soul, inner spirit or essence to cast powerful spells. And this spells are based on the inner fire (the blue fire). So basically the stronger and resolute you are, the more powerful your spells can be. Elementalists give me this traditional spellcaster feeling that says they can perform spells only by rituals or formulas; Guardians instead summon them by within themselves. I like to study and such, but I prefer to develop my own skills and talents instead of relying on another method. Even if I use it as a starter point, I’ll always end up in doing things my way, adapting them to me. Guardians give me this attitude, they can understand magic and such, but they use their own kind of magic wich his personal for each one. I love fire, and it is the element that I feel my own the most, along with earth.
Fifth, Role: Guardians are supposed to be the leaders, the mind that directs the fight strategically without lacking strenght. A living banner. They also defend their comrades and protect them against any attack, by attracting aggro. They can heal, defend and attack with great efficiency, which is a must for a main presence on the field. I pretty much do the same amongst my friends and in general with people.

Skills: The Guardian and Charrs skills together fit my playstyle. Greatsword skills are the best for me, because are both good to attack and control. Staff instead is made to defend and control, so yeah, I basically use greatsword and staff as weapons.
I like especially the Leap of Faith, the Inspiration that channels might and heals others, the line that can’t be crossed by enemies. In my utilities i love shouts, especially the Battle Roar, very offensive, typical Charrish, and the wall of reflection, the nicest skill we have. I also like the Sanctuary and the shield of absorption skill. And then, the Tome of Wrath

Living Story Takes Place of Expansions?

in Living World

Posted by: Syrpharon.7491

Syrpharon.7491

If we think about GW1, if they’re going to release an expansion, it would be a separated world.
However, that would mean that most of the main map in Tirya would be complete, which is not right now.
Anet for now hasn’t mentioned expansions or such (If I’m not wrong) and It’s higly improbable that they would introduce another dragon as a living story: it’s too much of a big deal, would require a different and completely dedicated game.

Personally I’d love to have living stories about the story packs in GW1 (where you could play as main characters in key events of GW1 story) but I don’t think they’ll do it

Ok guys, after reinstalling the game, the only issue I had was the black screen.
I searched for a solution but then I read here in the forum that a guy tried to adjust his Gpu and cpu overclocking settings by lowering them a little bit.

At the beginning they were on max (1400 Mhz or something) but i just lowered the gpu to 500 and the core to 930 and everything worked after that.
I also tried to limit the max number of frames to 60 to make it stable and it worked.
I could play without problems with a smooth game with all parameters at max, except for shadows which i adjusted on occasion cause they were lowering my fps.
Fps were around 24-30 in big cities and 40-60 in large areas with almost only 60 in istances. Haven’t tried Wvw yet.

Thanks all for your attention, I’ll let you know if there are complications

Hi guys, i’ve recently got a new computer by building it with the help of a friend (I don’t know nothing about computer parts). Anyway GW2 crashes a lot and I can’t manage to enter the game

There are two crash issues:
- sometimes it gets to the character selection screen but it pops up the blue screen of death after a bunch of seconds.
- sometimes it manages to get into the game but only for a few seconds, then the screen freezes while loading the world and then system reboots without blue screen.

Tried to run on lowest specs, running as administrator, setting down firewalls, but nothing.

Here are my specs:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64
CPU: AMD Phenom™ II x4 965 Processor (should be 3.4 Ghz)
Ram: 8 Gb
Grapic: AMD Radeon Hd 7800 series 2Gb
Case: Coolermaster
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Pro3 (not sure if it’s the right thing)

If you need further infos, let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Also they are big, wild, powerful, and they have got this perfect muscled body, way more balanced than the others, that make me enjoy the strong look of my character.
Humans and Norns don’t have the same physique, their muscled versions are weird somehow.

Red heads everywhere in real just because girls believe to be hotter or better with red hair since red heads are acknowledged as the sexiest girls (stereotypes).
Red hair are good but please, girls dyeing their hair with the same color is boring.
At least in a virtual world where you can choose something different, use some of the other colors, violet or purple perhaps!

A bad thing is that each order has got precise bonuses on their armor.
I joined the Whispers too with my guardian because I liked their characters the most, but then i realized that to get a Soldier type armor I should have been in the Vigils.
Priory = arcane prof
Whispers = medium prof
Vigil = heavy prof
It’s not a matter of builds, but in the end it seems they really continued the trinity somehow.
