People still defend this by saying “the stats don’t matter lol” even after it’s debunked literally every time it’s brought up? I thought only marketing shills did that.
Because surely if the stats are “too small to make a difference” then there’s no point in having them there in the first place, right? If they don’t make a difference, why is removing them bad? It won’t make any difference. LOL I DUNNO BUT I GETS PAID TO DEFEND ANET ON THEIR FORUM
“Small stat differences don’t matter”. I wonder how DOTA players who waste their time and starting gold getting Iron Branches would have to say to that. Or SC2 players that very literally practice builds just to get a certain unit out 0.5 seconds faster.
The only defense for this nonsense in WvW is the great “yeah well WvW is already unbalanced and it’s supposed to be that way” technique, which is a good deflection, but it doesn’t really explain how keeping it that way and avoiding improvements in that department is a bad thing instead of a good one. I mean, Anet already knows WvW populations are all over the place and completely imbalanced. Surely, that means it’s ok if they stay that way and nobody bothers to try and create balanced matchups, right? Who cares! It’s supposed to be broken and imba!
That’d be a fine first step, but it’s a little too late. I don’t really care about nor play WvW anymore. I only occasionally log in to follow a zerg when my guild pressures me into it.
Things they’d have to do to get me back:
1. As gear with exotic stats for WvW. Maybe allow them to change between certain stats or something to make them worthwhile.
2. Guard Leech/Applied Fortitude dead.
3. Bloodlust buff killed and tossed in a river.
In other words, I’d have better luck waiting for another game. Which is what I’m doing.
Just buffing up Ele ramps up the power creep. We need less ridiculous builds, not more. What they need to do is nerf the things everyone knows are hilariously OP. Once that is done, Ele might find its place.
Like Helseth said, if it weren’t for the fact that the new builds that have risen up since the “Necro Dhuumfire” patch are all stupidly easy to use and completely broken, it’d be Ele who needs shaving in some categories.
We need to decrease the amount of no brainer choices in the game and create a playing field where multiple styles of play are possible. This is much easier to do by playing around with as few variables as possible – namely, builds that are overused and considered more effective than everything else. These builds are the minority, and it means less mucking about. Otherwise you’d have to buff everything else to their level or at the very least to create counters to them. More power creep.
Anet injected the meta with a disgusting pathogen ever since “that” patch. They have to cure the disease, not lessen the symptoms.
Only things that are really obviously worthless should be buffed – things like the old Focused Mind trait.
I think I agree with the OP’s assessment. Conditions were not a problem until the patch that gave Necromancers Dhuumfire, along with a host of other changes. Therefore, it is most likely that the culprit for these powerful condition builds rests within those changes. After all, it isn’t every condition build that’s the problem. Who complains about condition Elementalists? Condition Guardians?
Like Helseth said very well on his stream:
“There was a point where they just had to nerf Ele and Mesmer and EVERYTHING would have been viable”
Not exact words.. but it’s the truth
It’s difficult for me to agree with this even more than I already do.
I also remember those times on SOTG when it was stated that (old, unbuffed) Warrior was the most balanced class in the game – that other classes should hope to be like the Warrior. Burst that can be seen, requires setup, and countered, a class with limitations and no ridiculous FOTM. It was other classes, classes with OP builds that needed to be brought down to their level.
Instead, we have had an ever increasing power creep. Constant buffs to deal with overpowered nonsense that then results in more overpowered nonsense.
It is always much easier to bring down the few outliers than to buff everything in hopes of making them like those outliers. There are less variables at play when you do the former.
A pity that we’ve already come so far since then. It almost seems impossible to go back and do things the right way.
What is an acceptable counter for a build to not be considered OP? If a single class manages to create a single solitary build that counters stunlock warriors, are they considered to be fine? Is this regardless of their performance against any other number of builds and classes?
Is the game intended to work on a Rock-Paper-Scissors basis?
I genuinely wish to know so I may modify my expectations appropriately.
Hypothetical: Class A has conditions buffed. New conditions spec is considered unbeatable in 1v1 and quickly changes the meta. Destroys virtually every other class and build.
As a result of several buffs to condition cleansing, class B is discovered to hard counter class A. Said build is also of extreme power – easily crushing many other builds and flat out hard countering condition builds.
Is this balanced by virtue of the existence of one counter or not?
By buffing necromancers the age of Condition came
Then on the white horse a Warrior came and vanquised the evil lord :P
Well, that’s kinda what I thought, but I don’t know if I had all the information.
I would not call the existence of one single build in one single class that can counter another build that melts basically everything else while also being of such power that it crushes everything not specifically suited to dealing with it “balance”.
I think people generally exaggerate the imbalances in the game. Most high-end players I know are completely flabbergasted by the complaints about the “condition meta,” which stopped existing one or two months ago.
Which meta are we in now? Which builds stopped it? Can these builds be replicated in every class? How many builds are now viable?
I’m not sure what to say. There are many things I wish I could say, but I somehow lack the continued strength to say them. It is as if I have finally realized that the light at the end of the tunnel for PvP will never get closer. Why bother to say anything? What good will it do, when months and months of the same feedback provided by players much better than I seems to do nothing?
It is a small patch of many patches that we’ve had, but there were some expectations here. Supposedly, the developers were listening and understood the terrible state of the game and would take measures to correct it. People waited because there were some big tournaments. That was the justification, right? No changes before tournaments were done, wait for the October patch for real change?
This patch had some good things. The QoL changes are all good. Nice job done there. Love the new trait descriptions and stuff. But what about the things that are really ruining build diversity and gameplay? What about fixing the faceroll, FOTM, broken nonsense that permeates the game and people have been complaining about for months on end? I had understood that the devs knew about this, did they not? Did they choose to leave it for later? Have I just gone mad? Did I hear something wrong? Are they hoping we’ll find out some incredible secret they know but we don’t, and haven’t suspected in all these preceding months?
I’m not sure I understand the patch changes. Does Anet believe that if they buff all the useless abilities that it will somehow stop Necromancers from melting everything except Warriors with conditions? That a new Purging Flames, a single ability available to a single class, will somehow stop condi spam for everyone else? Will Conjure Earth Shield do it?
It’s great that they are buffing useless things. However, these things will still be useless if the FOTM craps all over them anyway.
WvW is dead to me. Anet killed it with gear grinding, rank grinding, and unbalancing Bloodlust. sPvP is very literally the only other type of PvP I could do that lacks any of the aforementioned issues, and yet I feel as if it is equally dead.
I don’t even.
My friends went back to Star Wars. The Old Republic. That terrible game, that’s so horrible, and yet the friends I convinced to purchase this game are playing that right now.
I can’t
what
how
A lot of people here seem to like their gear advantages. I’ve never understood how an unlevel playing field is fun in a PvP setting.
Me neither. It’s always been my barrier of entry for other games. The only reason I even considered buying this game in the first place was because it marketed itself as an MMO for people who hate MMOs; with quotes indicating easy to access BiS gear and grinding only for appearance’s sake.
Meh. If only I had known that was going to change, that SPvP would be the only place where that’s true, I might have saved myself some cash.
If everything else in the game wasn’t so kitten OP I’m sure ele would be a lot more powerful.
I’m prone to agree with this line of thinking. My impression is that Eles aren’t really bad… it’s just that there’s so many glaring OP things taking the spotlight that Ele seems terrible in comparison.
I do not believe there is any spec/class/build that “kills” them. The worst I’ve ever encountered on my D/P Thief are builds that I cannot kill – but they cannot kill me back. PU Mesmer is one of those builds. I remember I also stopped bothering to fight healing Guardians since fighting took too long.
“WvW isn’t meant to be balanced”
Anet Trollface.jpg
Just another brainless yet effective build to add to the list. Hope your particular class has an equally broken build or a specific counter available or be prepared to do lots of fleeing. Just another day in WvW.
I’m privileged enough to have a Thief, so my Shadow’s Embrace makes me immune to condition builds, thankfully.
I didn’t care until they added dumb things like Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude – random stat bonuses for spending ages grinding doors.
Thanks, but no thanks. When it only impacted siege wars I didn’t care, but affecting player battles was too much for me. I want no part of their mindless grinding.
I agree that this limits the options Thieves have in the gamemode, but the current implementation of stealth prevents this from being a reality. In spite of people that pronounce non-arguments like “L2P” and “it’s not invincibility” and the like, stealth has no real counter play beyond guesswork. A stealth thief that does not want to be killed, will not be killed.
At one point in history, Thieves could contest points while stealthed, and as any rational person could anticipate, it was broken.
From what I have observed and read, my impression is that the problem for Eles is that the current FOTM are massively overpowered and easy to play, while builds that are similar for the Ele were nerfed long ago and as such the Ele doesn’t have an OP EZ mode build they can use to compete in a broken meta game.
I would say that these builds need to be brought back in line. I guess you could also give the Ele one massively broken build as well… but this reduces the overall depth in the game, although it would be another way to achieve balance. As per Sirlin, a game only has depth is if there are multiple viable choices that are competitive in the game.
Having a one or two builds per class that are hysterically OP could in theory be balanced but people might get bored on being pigeonholed into one thing forever and ever, not to mention that could shift the game more from personal skill and more into rock-paper-scissors “my build is better than yours” gameplay, which I don’t think makes for good watching, and part of why I don’t care to watch tournaments at all. There’s nothing to really admire, like Hellseth said, you just pick up what’s broken and start spamming.
I think this video is an excellent summary of the PvP in this game, and why people like me will not consider it worthy of E-sport or interesting enough for personal practice.
That summary being that simple facerolling builds on certain classes are more important than your personal skill. In this instance – AI does all the work for you, no skill needed.
“Sad enough” indeed.
It has become incredibly evident that Anet does not want me, nor players like me, to participate in WvW. They have successfully added almost everything they said they wouldn’t – and managed to make WvW even more unbalanced and lopsided for reasons I suspect a rational and sane human mind cannot fathom.
How does As gear make WvW a better place? How does wasting my time and money just to be at the same level that I was before it was introduced improve my WvW experience? Presumably it was added for PvE, except that you don’t even need it to complete PvE content since the mobs haven’t increased in power, yet, in WvW, my opponents will get these items. As gear has a bigger impact in WvW than it does in PvE despite the fact that Anet said that they wanted it to have a minimal impact on WvW in the Reddit AMA. Now I have to stand in front of a crafting station instead of killing people, which is what I want to do, and what I thought most WvW players would want.
:\
How does Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude make WvW a better place? I guess it encourages me to run with the zerg to get as much WXP as I can, but how does this make WvW more enjoyable? What does this spell for alts? How does this make WvW more fun? Knowing that by killing some helpless NPCs you are stronger against players for no reason is fun? Giving players who grind WXP an advantage against other players foments more… casual play? Competitive play? What? Why?
¯\(o0)_/¯
How does Bloodlust make WvW a better place? It gives small groups something useful to do for the whole server? Cool, I guess. What seems uncool is when the dominant, most numerous server seems to hold them, like, all the time. How does making arbitrary stat buffs that make equal number matchups unbalanced improve the overall WvW experience? How does making me think twice about roaming with my guildies because we know that if we get stomped we give the enemy tons of points improve WvW?
I DUNNO LOL
And next, in the near future, we get Leagues? How does this… do anything? How competitive do they think it will be? How will it balance the lopsided matchups? How does it make WvW a better place, or more fun or… anything?
I DUNNO INDEED
BUT WAIT I MEAN WVW IS UNBALANCED ALREADY ITS SUPPOSED TO BE LOL
BEING UNBALANCED AND BROKEN MAKES FOR GOOD GAME YES?
(edited by TainoFuerte.8136)
I can say that after the progressive negative changes to WvW seeing a change in action that I actually enjoyed was a very welcome feeling.
Banding together with my server to overcome this battle was probably the best experience Guild Wars 2 has given me – especially in PvE since up to this point it has all been of bad to mediocre quality.
That said, I would not expect them to bump up other bosses to this level. I believe there should be variety to the bosses and their difficulty. Turning every boss into an elite raid is not something I would approve of. In my opinion, low level bosses should remain relatively easy, with the difficulty increasing depending on the area level and the type of boss. I would say that dragon bosses should be the most difficult – Claw of Jormag should eventually have the privilege of being the toughest or at least even in difficulty with Teq.
These bosses should offer unique cosmetic rewards and titles, but players in servers incapable of finishing fights should not feel they are losing out on lots of money and BiS gear. I think they should be designed to be badges of honor for a server – a matter of pride, not of money.
Not that Teq was without flaws… as it exposed the weaknesses of overflows and the current system rather clearly. The game should not encourage animosity over spots on a map.
I suppose, that based on the evidence we have, that’s more or less what has to happen for there to be any changes. Then again, they might just say “well, nobody plays so why bother?”
Honestly, if at this point the changes that have been made aren’t to your tastes there’s really little reason to stay. Think about it. What are the odds they will suddenly start doing what you want, after all this time? They make me grind with As gear, they make me grind for WXP, and then they make the bloodlust buff. The puzzle pieces are starting to make a rather clear picture.
In fact, I’ve got my crystal ball right here with me, and it provides a vision of the future based on existing trends. Let me take a look into the future… I see…
“Superior Infusion of Might added. Superior Infusions of Might grant 250 Power. You can make this infusion in the Mystic Forge by using 250 Globs of Ectoplasm, 100 Globs of Dark Mattter, 250 Vials of Powerful Blood and 1 Cosmic Essence of the Mists. You can get a Cosmic Essence from the Laurel Vendor for 50 Laurels, 10 Globs of Dark Matter and 100 Gold.”
“New rank points have been added for the Trebuchet Mastery line. With 250 rank points in the mastery, you get the “Patience of a Saint” buff. This buff grants 50 Toughness for every wall you hit. Stacks 5 times."
“Return of the Centaur and Skritt has been released! With this new and exciting addition to WvW, these areas on the Borderlands have been revamped! When the Legendary Centaur Chieftain is killed, it grants the server Protection, Regeneration and Swiftness for 1 hour until he respawns. Killing the Legendary Skritt Queen grants the server 5 stacks of Might, Fury and Retaliation for 1 hour until she respawns.”
This is a post by a dev following the forum outrage:
“We are always concerned about the future of WvW, and would not make an update unless we were confident it was in its best interests. We have metrics showing us that the majority of people are excited about this change. We respect your feedback and will always take it into consideration, but you have to remember that you are only a vocal minority. WvW will never be balanced, and it isn’t intended to be. With this in mind, this update is meant to give small groups something to do that will help their whole server.”
“The Arenanet WvW team has been found a week after their disappearance from Anet HQ. They were found tied to several chairs in an abandoned barnhouse, surrounded by the corpses of rats and decapitated horses. Besides a few bruises and malnutrition, the team was otherwise unharmed. Members of the team were heard muttering random words and phrases, such as: “SHINIES”, “VOCAL MINORITY!”, and “Bloodlust… bloodlust… bloodlust…” They are now undergoing a full psychiatric evaluation."
Might as well start grinding for AF and GL early.
I can agree that the buff is simply another one in the list of things they’ve added that just don’t do anything or outright make WvW worse (Applied Fortitude, for example). The buff itself, however, is also a problem and a bad idea.
What I’d like to know is how the forum being the “vocal minority” changes anything. Isn’t that the whole point of having a forum? That the community represents itself through it? Why the hell else would you have a forum? What polls and surveys are Anet using to gauge player opinion on things like this, or do they just assume that if you log in you are content (which is likely what they do, but this is incredibly biased)? I’ve never received a mail from Anet asking for my opinion in game.
It’s been stated before, but I feel this is also felt by larger groups. Used to be that even when we were outnumbered we could muster up enough forces on a single map to be a decent threat for the enemy zerg. This would result in good battles to be had – even if we could not win the week in score.
Now, I have observed our doritos avoiding combat entirely once the dominant force has the Orb buffs. To the point where if we are losing a keep, we just go flip something else.
Even following doritos has become dull.
/shrug
As gear and rank stats already started killing WvW roaming for me. These are just more reasons to go kill Tequatl.
I appreciate this rare moment of transparency. It was a good move to present the ideas you guys are kicking around.
The QoL changes related to targeting and traits are welcomed. I might perhaps only suggest that Mesmer clones be continued to be looked at, as often times actually targeting the real one is much harder than finding him, only and entirely because you have to fight the UI and the targeting system.
I express worry over any changes to pets and minions that will noticeably affect WvW, as small scale WvW combat is more important to me than anything else. WvW has already become a broken mess by virtue of As gear, ranks, and Orb effects. I hope that for its future’s sake it isn’t ruined further by such changes.
To give us a preview of these changes was a good idea, hopefully you guys will continue to do so.
Actually, I think I see the light. I understand now.
These buffs don’t matter. Who cares if they cause a snowball effect? Hear me out.
See, WvW is supposed to be unfair. It is intended that it be a broken mess. If you want an even battleground, go to SPvP. If you want stats not to matter, go to SPvP.
WvW is already unfair, so does it matter if we make it a little more unfair? It’s just like As gear. If you want those stat buffs, go get them. Don’t just sit there and whine. Work for your stats. It’s part of the game. Removing this after it has been implemented would just invalidate the hard work of the servers who got those buffs and the hard work of the developers.
See, it makes perfect sense.
o________o
That would invalidate the time the developers spent creating this new content.
B-b-b-b-ut, OP… Don’t you get it? WvW is supposed to be unfair! That’s why As gear doesn’t matter, it’s supposed to be unbalanced and unfair! What does it matter if we make it even worse? It’s supposed to be broken!
At least, that’s what I keep reading in the threads where an even fighting chance is proposed.
It’s pretty clear that these new capture and hold point in the BL’s are a desperate attempt by Anet to attract WvW players to sPvP. They think that we will enjoy it so much that we will all become sPvP’ers. And then: esport.
Hm. I would add that I thought As gear and Guard line buffs were the first step of that.
“Want equal stats? Don’t want to grind for gear? GO SPVP PLZ WE NEED ESPORT GOOO”
I haven’t read any thread on gearing since As came out, but before then the same complaint was made against Exotic gear, no video, no links, no screenshots provided.
Then I suggest you read them, before saying people haven’t presented evidence. But…
I read the manifesto, nothing to the effects of what people are claiming, when I brought it up no one pointed out to me where I missed the part where they said that there are absolutely no gear grind requirement.
If you’re going to say “lol that’s not what they said” then there’s no point in arguing that the sky is blue to someone who insists it’s red.
I take it you haven’t read any thread related to As gear, then. You’ll even find one such quote on a thread participant’s signature. So you might want to read the thread in its entirety, as well.
I’m also curious as to what SPvP map allows dozens and dozens of players to duke it out in a giant, open battlefield over castles and keeps. Could you give me some directions?
There will be more ways to acquire the ascended mats as part of the season and we will look into adding yet additional ways after that.
I’m guessing you will still expect us to sit around crafting items instead of playing WvW before getting an As weapon, correct? Because that doesn’t sound too exciting, as opposed to using all those Badges of Honor that are piling up after killing people and taking keeps and doing active victory related stuff.
They are all stupid. Much like As gear.
I need to have that reasoning explained to me. WvW is not currently fair. Ok. A simple statement. I don’t understand, however, how that excuses or justifies unbalancing it further through rank upgrades, Bloodlust buffs and gear.
A mod had his feelings hurt. I’m sorry.
A(s ended)net believes themselves to be geniuses of PR, by using semantics and small details as bullet proof shields.
“It’s not gear grind! It just isn’t! There will be no new tier of gear!” they’ll say. Meanwhile, new infusions with higher stats, which require throwing more mats into the Mystic Toilet, are deployed. Meanwhile, new pieces of As garbage are still being fed to us, little by little.
“The stats! It’s a small difference! It’s not really VP!” they’ll say, all the while new As gear is slowly dripped into the game, as if we aren’t capable of addition.
“You’ll acquire it through multiple playstyles” they say, since you get As drops in multiple parts of the game. Meanwhile, As backpieces are nowhere to be found in WvW. Meanwhile, characters that don’t craft get no As weapon at all.
“You didn’t understand the context of what we said before”, they’ll say. Of course, it’s our fault. The best way to lose accountability of the things you say is to insinuate that your listeners cannot listen properly. Shift the blame.
These are the weapons of a cornered mouse. They depend on us being too stupid to see through the spin, the mental gymnastics, and the word play.
There, no bad words.
You know, like how when As(s) weapons and trinkets were introduced, the time I spent on my multiple exotic sets was invalidated.
I appreciate your concern.
Boy, remembering those answers makes my blood boil.
Contradictions everywhere and in hindsight what they said does not reflect reality.
It’s also fitting how it’s our fault too.
“Misinterpretations”. Rofl. Typical PR spin. “Uh guys I swear we didn’t say that, you just heard wrong”.
“Available through multiple activities”. Yes – that’s why to get As(s) weapons I’d have to park my character for who knows how long in front of a crafting station all the way from 0-500, instead of going out into WvW and killing people. Thanks, A(asscended)net.
“We didn’t intend for As(s) gear to impact WvW”. Oh, really? Is that why it has better stats? What do you call that then? See, a rational human being, when confronted with the problem of As(s) gear and WvW and how to minimize the impact of gear in WvW, would reason that As(s) gears should not have higher stats. Anet decides that the best way to minimize the impact is to encourage WvW players to go farm. Genius!
What a train wreck. And SPvP is so bad I can’t even look to it for shelter.
I couldn’t even tolerate this map on hotjoins, I can’t imagine how annoying it must be when trying to play competitively.
What a terrible map.
Applied Fortitude then Guard Leech. Nothing else matters unless you sit on siege all day. Stats buffs kitten kitten
Get to grinding! That’s what PvP is about!
How many times does the “stats don’t make a big enough difference” idiocy need to be debunked? Go tell DOTA players how Iron Branches don’t matter and see how that goes.
Yes, if you want to fight at your best, you will have to grind your crafting all the way to 500 to make one of these stupid stat sticks.
My advice – quit before even starting. It would be worse if it turns out you like the PvP only to get frustrated with the stupid gear chase. Play another game.
I would accept this.
Colin’s statement at PAX strikes me as just spin and smokescreen, concocted to try and get people to shut up about ArenaNet’s about face on the ascended gear release.
There’s little doubt in me that such is the case.
How else would you defend the indefensible?
“Uh but you don’t really need to get it”
“Uh we should have had it before”
“Uh you didn’t understand us right when we talked before about those things we said”
“Uh but this time frame was always intended, it’s the players’ fault”
“Uh things change”
Etc.
All excuses and semantics. All worthless.
I sincerely hope others like you continue to voice their thoughts. A(sscended)net should feel what many of its players are feeling.
That they allowed this blemish to contaminate WvW is doubly concerning to me and to several of my guildmates. Instead of wondering how I can best serve my world, I now find myself having to consider the best way to farm for this stupid gear so I don’t fall behind other PvPers. And it will continue. Goodbye alts, I guess. As if Guard Leech and Applied Fortitude weren’t dumb enough additions to WvW As(s) gear already.
Perhaps players should mimic the PGI and Mechwarrior Online debacle, and maybe then we’ll be heard. Funny signatures and all.
I don’t even mind the mats gathering, what bothers me is that we’re being forced to craft
lol I’m in a similar position. Were I even remotely close to 400 crafting, I might actually complain about all the stupid mats that are probably unreasonably time consuming to acquire.
Beyond my displeasure of Ascended gear in and of itself, what really boggles my mind is how they decided to commit the same mistake they made when they released As trinkets and just placed them all in one activity. I loathe crafting and can’t even remember what disciplines my toons have. Guess I get no As weapon.
The entire Ascended gear thing is a debacle – a hilarious train wreck.
No. Stat bonuses cause me the same sick feeling Guard Leech and Dumb Fortitude do.
Unbalancing an already unbalanced gametype to… I guess goad me into SPvP maybe?
Very bad feelings, for all the many reasons already stated. I am additionally offended because to me it feels like a bait and switch. Anet will no longer have any monetary support from me.
Ascended weapons are stupid in WvW for all the same reasons Ascended trinkets and the ridiculous Guard Leech nonsense are stupid.
I don’t want to grind. I don’t care about agony. I don’t care about ranks. I don’t care about titles. I don’t care about “progression”. I care about going into a relatively even playfield and fighting other guys. That. Is. It. Instead, I now find myself thinking about rewards and the fastest way to acquire them, not how to best serve my world. My best time in Guild Wars 2 was when I just got all of my exotics… and I was done. I could do whatever I wanted and I was fighting at my best.
If SPvP and its rewards weren’t so bad, I would have encouraged them to apply the same concept to WvW, but to be quite frank SPvP’s standards are too low and there aren’t even enough armor and weapons skins as rewards. PvE at least gives you a good selection of things to choose from and much more customization in stats. So whatever.
I protested, but ignored the kitten trinkets. I hated the idea of Guard Leech, but I dealt with it. But enough is enough. This is not the game I was told I was going to buy. This is a different animal. If I wanted to grind for gear, I’d play WoW, because they do it much better than this game.
As weapons are dumb and they are bad.
“They don’t make a difference.” You are wrong. In PvP, the smallest differences are the differences between death and life with a mere 5 HP left. Hence, Iron Branches and Tread switching in DOTA. Hence players in Starcraft 2 perfecting builds to shave off just 1 second on a build. PvPers want to fight at their best – which is why they are the ones who have every food buff and Guard Leech. There is a difference between an army of full As men, and an army of uplevels and toons in rares.
I came here for WvW, and almost precisely because there would be no grind for gear. I knew going in that I’d reach 80, buy my exotics, and that would be it. Those were the reasons I came to this game. And then… betrayal.
But whatever man. I’m sure I’ll keep logging in and find some dorito to follow so my poor alt that doesn’t even have ascended trinkets doesn’t get horribly murdered by GUARD LEECH/LEGENDARY/AS TRINKET roamer teams.
OR
I could play games where my intelligence is respected and I’m not supposed to constantly move forward chasing a worthless carrot, which is what other MMO’s do, and this one promised not to.
A loss of interest is putting it mildly. I’m about to ragequit. I don’t even know what crafting professions I even picked. That I have to sit at a crafting station and level all the way to 500 in disciplines I didn’t even pick is infuriating. I will be sure to badmouth Anet for any future potential customers I meet.
I even feel ashamed for ever actually buying gems in support of Anet. I only wish the censor and the moderators would allow me to post the cursewords I wish to fling at the people who created this idiotic Ascended garbage right now.
(edited by TainoFuerte.8136)
I’m not even worried about the materials, because as far as I know I’m actually expected to craft these jokes myself, which implies sitting for who knows how long in front a stupid crafting station leveling all the way from 1 to 500 because I hate crafting.
About to ragequit the game.
It might be possible to convince me that Eles aren’t so bad, but I can’t say I see how Mesmers are “fine”. They’ve been ridiculous ever since the game launched, and even without shatters an ability like Portal is so broken even WvW and defending has to revolve around its use.
Ascended defense force at the ready – with poor arguments fired.
I’ve won fights with less than 100 HP, which is probably even less than a 10% difference.
WvW bonuses lol – the fact that there are already discrepancies in balance doesn’t excuse increasing them further.
This is the same game where people will spend god knows how much gold for Bloodlust, Food and Utility buffs.
