The way the game is balanced.

I firmly believe that the game should be balanced by…

A : creating good/balanced weapon skills that don’t necessarily require traits to be effective.

B : creating good utility skills that don’t require traits to be effective.

C : Traits that help people distinguish and diversify builds that add synergies to your weapon skill/utilities. ( Should not be “20% faster recharge on sword skills” and such. We clearly have more imaginative devs than that. )

Just going to use thief as an example ( as it’s my main ).

So let’s begin with a few examples of how thief doesn’t follow the above list. ( Please note that I don’t main or use the other classes as much/at all in PvP to give any insight, but I do know that thief isn’t the only class with these problems. )

So lets begin with utility skills.
Venoms are a HUGE offender of the above. They simply aren’t used unless traited for a “venom share” build ( which in itself is pretty average at best ).
Traps, they aren’t used period. The reason is rather simple.. traited or not, they are simply outclasses by practically every other utility.
How about utilities that actually follow the correct trend ? how about deception utilities ? They’re very good on their own, and if they’re traited, they can be enhanced to help your play style.

Weapon skills.
P/P anyone ? The weapon set itself has a huge weakness that requires utility skills to function properly (0 mobility for a class that’s supposed to specialize in speed.) ( Even at that, utilities/traits don’t save this weapon set tbh. )
It’s just a very awkward set in general that offers quite honestly nothing.

A class I enjoy playing that feels like traits simply enhance rather than make viable is mesmer. Let’s say I use GS + S/P, no matter how I trait, I feel like It can work. I might not be as effective, but I’m certainly not useless. Engineer also has this same feeling, where I can trait into anything and I can potentially make it work ( but that may be due to the raw #of skills I can use that can make any trait set up function in some way. )

I just feel like weapons should be first balanced without traits in mind to make them all equally viable, and really rework traits afterwards. Currently some balance discussions probably go along the lines of.

Dev1 : “Alright, well we need to tone down hundred blades.”
Dev2 : “Hundred blades is really balanced when it has a 10 second recharge.”
Dev1 : “well with our 20% faster recharge, it’ll go under 10 seconds”
Dev2 : “it’s settled, let’s change the recharge to 12 seconds then to compensate.”

This effectively makes the skill kitten unless traited to make it 10 seconds. See what I mean ?

If this post makes no sense, I apologize.
It’s just a jumbled mess in my head as well, hopefully my point has been made though.

They have a disadvantage, and that’s having a kitten camera angle.

You see SO much more as a norn/charr ( field wise ) compared to asura. Even while downed you see more as a bigger char.

Rangers pets damage, broken AI

Some of you seem to forget that rangers can spec to have an insanely DPS pet and yet still be beast himself by going full condition damage/whatever defensive stats that goes with them.

Since pet stats have no relation to what the ranger is wearing, you can build a condition ranger ( in which condition builds are meant to sustain/bunker ) and have a “zerker” pet.

This is fact, and the reason rangers are rampant in pvp now.
No need to be ignorant Xsorus.

EDIT : And it seems you main ranger, no wonder you’re defending it like the second coming of jesus.

So, wanting to remove this feature so I don’t double click something by mistake to attack it ( poor rabbits ) while being stealthed ( Yes I use thief. ).

Only to realize the issue isn’t fixed, how so ?

Welp, to everyone’s surprise ( lol not ), right clicking still attacks/interacts.
So moving the camera can/will attack randomly other junk or change targets ( Obviously, surprised this isn’t even an option to disable with how stupid fighting clones/minions is. can’t even rotate the camera without clicking something. )

Seriously ? Why ? Is there some type of valid reason ?
It shouldn’t even be an issue, as it should have NEVER been this way to begin with.

EDIT : And if anyone is curious, yes this is a bug.
It clearly states “double click to attack interact”, by disabling it, it indeed should stop both left/right click from attacking/interacting.

There is also a bug where you can’t move at all for some reason unless you use a leap/tele. Yes I checked and I wasn’t immobilize

Oh man, this is infuriating.

Iv’e been dodging randomly out of immobilizes and or even randomly dodging mid fight for no reason ( I don’t use tap to jump, so the only way is to press the button at the time I wish to dodge. )

And this “dodge queuing” is ridiculous.

There’s 0 reason to have it and even if its something that some how does require to stay, at least it requires a toggle.

This and right click targetting are mind numbing.

Condition re-applying is out of control.

Seriously, what’s up with this ?

It’s becoming a battle of who can dump their conditions on the enemy the fastest.
Even after using 2-3 skills that remove conditions, but a mere fraction of a second later you’re once again littered with conditions that you can’t possibly begin to imagine how to get those off.

Is there some kind of logical method of removing all these conditions ? Or are most classes minus elementalist/necro just going to have to melt ?

Yeah, I’m fine with instead of stealing a class mechanic a thief could steal a utility skill but stealing the entire utility bar from someone is insanely OP. Not to mention giving the thief a master trait in DA that allows those abilities to be spammed twice.

Seriously, could you imagine? Thief stealing For great justice, endure pain, balanced stance, one steal gives him 16s of stability, 8s of taking no damage, and 6 stacks of might for 25 seconds + 16s of fury. And this happens EVERY 30-45 seconds. How in the world is that NOT ludicrously overpowered?

Please stop posting suggestion threads like this Daecollo, and if you do, be reasonable about them.

If you think of it the way I mentioned ( which I really like btw )
You would have 16 seconds of stability OR 8 seconds of taking no damage OR might/fury on a 45 second cool down.

Pretty cool imo to have a choice and allow it to be slotted like it is now so you can use it whenever.

Something that should change is the recharge, imo trickery can reduce it, but steal should only go on recharge after the skill gets used ( and have a minimum of 20-30 second cool down no matter what. Although, stealing and waiting 45+ seconds so you can use 2 stolen utilities in a row does mean you waited 45 seconds without your class mehanic.

Also, no one seems to undertand improvisation, please reread the trait.
( its a 1/5 chance to recharge YOUR utilities, which aren’t the f2-3-4 that the OP posted about. )

No, actually, the OP suggested changing Improvisation so that it caused the stolen utilities to be usable twice on a 10s recharge rather than only once, which is why the comment brought it up several times.

Oh I see why everyone was saying that about improv now.
Honestly scrap that part of the idea and make it steal the 3 utilities and as soon as 1 is used, steal goes on recharge and you lose all the stolen skills. Gg you have a pretty cool mechanic that requires good knowledge of your enemy.

Seems right, I do believe that he’s running 25/30/0/0/15 to get the extra 3 initiative which helps keep his initiative about 6 ( for the extra damage bonus of first strike, 25 in crits. )

And out of curiosity, I noticed you put force/accuracy, is that really the “recommended” or what you use ? I typically had force + a sup blood for the 250 extra power. Which could be swapped for something else after it hit 25 stacks. ( I do realize that in CoF you might not even hit 25 stacks, which is why it might not be recommended specifically there. )

Probably one of my fav attacks, I can hit with half of it and usually the person runs away and I steal to finish the damage.

The problem is that just auto attacking would get you more damage than in the same time, not hamper your mobility, and either apply two conditions or set you up to do so. Even if all of PW hits it isn’t that great, if you’re only landing half of the hits it is just flat-out bad.

But half of the hits and not being damaged the whole time is still nice.
As you inflicted damage to the enemy while taking none, and recharging your cooldowns. I typically run withdraw, and use it multiple times easily while avoiding a lot of damage with PW/Black Powder and withdraw itself.

It’s also capable of inturupting, not fast, but predicting rather than reacting to the enemy gets you some nice inturupts that can potentially win you that little fight.

Kinda like inturupting infuse health in GW1, something a lot of fellow mesmers/rangers did with very nice predictions ( diversion anyone ? ), effectively removing one of the monk’s key heals ( or prots ? lol ).
Basically, if I can predict when the enemy will heal, I can save an easy headshot for 3-4 seconds later when the second attempt goes off.

Now I’m not saying pistol whip is necessarily good.
I just find uses outside of raw damage.

Call your ISP. Unless the karkageddon has started it might be on your end. If it’s happening to lots of your guild mates it’s probably server side combined with how poorly optimized this game is.

I dunno, it’s been working fine ( isp ) for all my other games. And calling them is pointless, it’s like. “hur hur, you should unplug your modem for 20 seconds and replug it.” NOWAI.
Customer service is too good. Most of the lag spikes Iv’e been getting is happening to my team as well. I don’t know anymore ;

I just had a depressing pvp match where lag spikes makes you use black powder 2-3 times in a row effectively crapping on my initiative lol.

It’s been roughly a week now, where crashes are consistent and lag is abysmal.

Even right now, we’re all getting major lag spikes ( in which both teams acknowledge it’s there in PvP. )

What’s going on ? Are the servers taking a dump on itself ? Last night in CoF it was unbearably laggy to the point where it took almost an hour to beat the last boss in path 1 due to the team getting downed every min with the inability to dodge anything. ( It’s like watching your full health bar with burn doing nothing, spiking with lag and suddenly you’re practically dead spamming your self heal hoping it pulls off before you hit the floor. )

for real though, are the servers functioning properly ? what’s up ?

Probably one of my fav attacks, I can hit with half of it and usually the person runs away and I steal to finish the damage. Chaining it with head shot also puts a lot of pressure as they lose the ability to do anything consecutively, its a scary thought every few seconds losing control.

I also love using it on downed players that I want to damage rather than stomp, as I’m invulnerable doing so and it cleaves.

Could use a small buff imo, nothing major.

I don’t understand, PvE players get update after update filled with free content ( lots of free content. )

PvP gets nothing. A few minuscule updates to classes and paid tourneys that were quickly removed due to a “lack of interest”. Almost 9 months in, we finally get what we were told we’d get, awaiting patiently even if we got nothing else during those 9 months. And we have to PAY to use it ?

My mind is absolutely blown at how the pvp players are treated. I understand that monetizing pvp was/is needed. But dear god, add skins or something of value ( cosmetically ) and people flock to that kitten like candy at Halloween. No need to give us bad pvp, and force us to pay to get the good pvp.

Imagine doing that to the PvE crowd ?
“Hey guys ! Sorry for the delay, it’s been a long 9 months but dynamic events/dungeons and medium armor that aren’t trench coats ( oh wait?!? ) are finally in the game ! It’s only going to cost you in order to actually access them. BUT HEY ! AT LEAST YOU CAN PLAY OUR OTHERWISE CRAPPY GAME ANYTIME AFTER INITIAL PURCHASE > : D”

Wanted a solid pvp game to dedicate my time on. Only to be disappointed consistently. Only thing left to find out is how much these are and how long you “rent” them for.

In my opinion, you should always use correct grammar. Perfect practice makes perfect. The more you use it, the better you’ll get at it. Like others in this thread, I can’t help but think someone who writes poorly is either uneducated or very young (under 13).

When I play the game, I zoom out as much as I possibly can.
I want to see as much as the game allows me to get a better view of the field.

Why in gods name does it zoom me in when I get downed ?
As an asura with an already pitiful camera angle in general, being forced to zoom out every time I’m downed is annoying ( especially since my dodge etc is mapped to my mouse wheel, so I need to press the random kitten buttons I swapped zoom out/in to in order to zoom out. ) Everywhere else, the zoom out is saved. I zoom out once and it’s done. Why doesn’t the downed state realize that I zoomed out all the way and keep this setting ?

WTB zoom lock please !

Shadow Trap Makes No Sense.

So I decided to try the trap again, haven’t touched it since the update that allows you to chose when to teleport.

So here I go, spirit watch map, pop my trap at the wolf point and I head to the bear point in order to cap that one. I notice the range on the skill is 10k, which is more than enough to cover the whole map and then some.

Spider senses tingle and I notice someone triggered my trap, so after capping bear I decide it’s time to give wolf a visit by activating the skill. To my surprise, I moved about 2 inches. A single rock on the floor stopped me from getting to my destination.

What the kitten ?

Why does the skill even have a 10k range if it works the same way as a shadow step which is beyond limited and gets caught on every rock/leaf/twig and even air itself

I thought it would be a “portal” like teleport, you know… I would appear there instantly and that’s that. The skill itself comes with advantages/disadvantages and situations where picking to stay rather than port would be more beneficial.
Example, porting to a mob wouldn’t work in your favor. Leaving too early and losing the point you were capping since you aren’t there to help your team anymore.

This trap would be so much more appealing if it actually worked like the mesmer’s portal ( mechanic wise when it comes to the actual teleport )

And that’s just shadow trap, don’t get me started on the multitude of other relatively bad utilities =|

So, out of sheer curiosity… Why hasn’t the heal rate for the pet’s revive been toned down yet ?

I understand the water map is, or underwater combat is beyond unbalanced anyway.
But it’s rather annoying to try and kill a ranger that’s being healed by his pet that revives at the same rate 3 players reviving would ( Perhaps exaggerating, but it doesn’t feel like it. )

The ability to stomp underwater would fix this instantly. Why can’t we ? =|

So, why is this skill so bugged?

Depending on terrain, it just doesn’t work. ( where the crazy asura is for the harpy fractal, seriously never works near the middle, same for old tom… Fizzles often )
That, or it just doesn’t work 60% of the time anyway.

And then there’s a big “useless” factor with veil being in the aquation.
If it could reflect projectiles like the other two ( mesmer can trait to make it reflect anyway ) then it would be fine, but too much rng involved with it.

What do?

I normally use elixir u for the fractal legendary shaman boss, and this is indeed an issue that Iv’e noticed that happened quite often. Even the throw skill is bugged hard core.

You don’t seem interested in which sigil to use and more about whining about some damage tax when you lack the skill to win. Again if you feel so strongly, don’t use engineers.

Thief pistol = Engineer pistol & Warrior rifle = Engineer rifle

What your excuse when engineers can consistently beat thieves in pvp?

Assuming you want to give 2h’ers 2 sigils, then this applies to all 2h’ers and then you would whine about how your thief is useless because he/she is owned and you will start a thread to reduce the 2h’ers back to 1 sigil.

I’m interested in both, and the only points I can truly discuss is the damage tax ( which I stated is a big deal due to the fact rifles only get 1 sigil anyway ). It’s not like Ill argue with you about what sigils you think is good, that’s all subjective and something I want to see other people’s opinions on.

But it seems you resort to insulting over actually discussing.

Thief pistol =/= Engi pistol, because ours is cond oriented and condition damage stacks badly, while a thief can still orient his to a very powerful power oriented build ( P/D and P/P for unload )

Warrior rifle =/= Engi rifle, because a warrior is supposed to have raw damage and the high burst. Our rifle doesn’t really compare damage wise to a warrior which is normal.

Also, engi’s don’t consistently beat thieves in pvp lmao.
And I’m not sure why it would even matter if they can ? ( not sure why you keep bringing up thieves like it’s the next coming of jesus. ) But the big boys are ele/mesmer/guardian at the moment, and we can’t compete with them at all ( as an engineer )

Also, you’re the one who initially suggested to add a 2nd sigil to 2h.
And you stated damage would have to be compensated.
But since you’re bringing this up again, with thief as well. Thief only has SB and with lowered damage, the SB won’t really “own” anything. Although the weapon is mainly used as a means to travel fast.

What you don’t seem to understand is that, engineers lose 2-3 sigils ( if they go rifle ) compared to other classes and can’t swap weapon. I always thought we couldn’t swap weapons because we had a lot of versatility ( So we use kits instead ). But we apparently are purposely losing damage as well. Engi’s are double dipping in the negatives. We don’t have very competitive kits to use and our turrets/elixirs are lackluster. So while we can be a little versatile, it doesn’t make up for the loss of sigil.

1. most engineers use on critical (for dps builds) or on weapon swap (kit heavy) sigils. which one depends on your build.

2. i dont think they are any sigil bugs but try not to use 2 of the same sigils at once

3. you only get the sigil of weapons being used (as well as stats). In this case (as an engi) other professions dont get bonus from weapons not currently swapped in. So its either 1 or 2.

4. 2-handers have better stats and 1+o have two runes. Not really a deal breaker. If you feel so strongly about that sigil, fell free to not use rifles. Other people will still use them.

5. If 2h weps are given another sigil, their stats and damage will have to be lowered because it effects balancing for the entire game.

For point #3, I think you’re missing what I meant. So Ill explain.

Say my thief ( in pvp ) currently has Sigil of fire and bloodlust on D/D and Sigil of recovery ( I think that’s the endurance one ) on my SB.

While on the offensive, my thief has 2 powerful dps oriented sigils, when the going gets tough and you need to get away, you swap to SB, and get 50% endurance which will assist you in running away. When you’re ready to attack, you will swap to your D/D set and once again have access to your two dps sigils.

Now to have this example with my engi.
I would be forced to use Main hand/Off combo to at least get 2/3 sigils mentioned above. I will lose DPS or 50% endurance on swap. As I can’t have all 3.
Now as engi weapons are already taxed ( less damage overall compared to other classes due to our added versatility ), I would opt for the dps sigils. This means if I want to “escape” a situation and have some kind of defensive sigil as well, I can’t.

Now yes, we’re consistently told that we have superior versatility, which may or may not be true ( depends on build, a build that doesn’t have any kits will lack this versatility, while one who has plenty of kits will have it. This funnels engi’s to use kits as our “class’s specialty is versatility”, that’s like a thief not abusing SB for superior mobility. ) But does that warrant say, using a rifle and having only 1 sigil, being taxed due to this “versatility” damage wise versus say… any class using 2 weapon sets with main hand/off hand which effectively gives them “versatility” and 4 sigils ?

Which this ties for you point #4, which states 2h weapons have higher stats.
This is correct, but it has been stated by devs that we are “taxed” damage wise due to our versatility. Already my rifle only has 1 sigil, but it does less damage as well.

And lastly, your #5, which would also be correct.
But as an engi, who’s losing dps already ( taxed damage, this can be searched on the forum easily ) would be stupid to opt for a 2h weapon with 2 sigils, when we could simply use mainhand/offhand combo and not suffer from an additional lowered damage.

It just seems like engi’s using rifle gets shafted, which makes me a little sad.

I can’t find a topic on this but I really want to know so far everyone’s opinion on this.

Well, we can use sigils now, that’s fine and dandy… But which are the top recommended?
Are any of them still bugged or simply not viable?

And something I also wish to discuss, main+off hand versus rifle.
A class who has a 2h weap, can swap to another weap ( that be 2h again or a main+off combo ) typically, they have 2-4 sigils and the average would be 3.
I have a hard time right now motivating myself to use rifle, as I get 1 sigil over 2.
That, and the fact that our weapons are “taxed” due to our versatility ( there’s a thread on this already, but it basically means our damage suffers just because we’re “versatile” ).
There’s literally no reason to use rifle because we suffer damage wise and 1 less sigil.
If we want control, shield offers a much better offensive/defensive control compared to rifle.

Is there anyone, dev or not, that can somehow tell me if rifle will get compensated or anything. I always assumed a 2h weap did more damage to compensate on having only 1 sigil, but the engi loses that damage just because we’re an engi ( straight up the real reason ) which makes me sad

I haven’t seen any behaviour that makes him charge more.
My guild has been running this once/twice per day, and every time we’re at bjarl, he literally refuses to charge for 1-2 minutes even.

We normally split around the room near the pillars, while the person being chased kites towards different pillars hoping he gets excited and charges towards anything. Even charging towards spire would be much loved.

This fight is a joke, absolutely nothing hard about it.
He doesn’t even have a lot of hp.

But why, why in gods name does he at times never charge prolonging the fight for absolutely no reason.

It’s not like we aren’t at pillars waiting for him to charge, no.. He simply refuses to charge making a boring fight even more so.

Suggestions? The longer he takes to charge, the longer it also takes for his jormag skin thing to re-apply, or make him charge at set intervals that doesn’t include numbers higher than 20-30 seconds.

That is all, otherwise still one of the few bosses who ain’t 100% tank and spank. ( out of like 5? )

If someone tried this in my team I would not hesitate to vote kick them. People have been vote kicked for just asking this.

Kicking just for asking if they can swap to a low lvl alt ?
Man I love using the forum as a block list, weeds out the bad without logging in game.

Regardless, I see no problem with this if the group agrees.
No issue or exploit.

Authenticator Questions/Concerns [merged]

So I had to remove my authenticator and re-install it due to resetting my phone to factory default.

I’m currently trying to unlink+relink it with the authenticator so I can start using it again on my phone.

But I can’t add an account on the app because it asks for the account and a key ( I dont have a key ) and I used the QR scanner too ( which is also not available to me right now ) And to unlink, it wants me to input 2 codes that I don’t have access to because my app is not linked anymore.

What do ?

It’s like I’m asking for a job, but can’t get the job because I lack experience.
And I can’t get experience because I can’t otherwise get a job unless I have said experience.

Edit : so it seems the reset was sent and I was successfully able to verify my account and get it unlinked that way.
It would be nice to manually chose to reset it that way ourselves.
Thanks for the assistance whoever pulled the strings.

And BEFORE you say i sacrifice DPS for this i have might stacking on crits and perma-fury meaning 68% crit chance, Can comfortably drop theives in both PvP and WvW – with 2 skills – Bolas -> 100 Blades = Dead squishy theif.

I think you lack the pvp experience if you think throw bolas -> 100b actually works on anything, especially a thief. Saying this just plummeted any credibility you could have had.

Warriors are in need of a buff in pvp, they dont lack damage but have no reliable way to actually do the damage on anything. Plenty of threads about this in the warrior boards, you may have a read.

For the topic at hand, Ill take a thief over a warrior/guardian any day, you only see what you’re missing after playing one in the higher level fractal or playing with a good thief.

The problem is, people want to have their cake and eat it too. Dungeons are readily and often exploited, or they are easy to begin with. This somewhat justifies how terrible the loot is.

When you have a cake, what else are you supposed to do with it?
Of course if I have a cake I will eat it.
