Agreed. I will always give props to anyone willing to host a tourney. I hope you are paid in some form for you efforts…

The quality of the fights isn’t exactly within your control either, it is the nature of the game. And even then, you guys tried to keep it interesting even when the games were clearly already over. I almost wish we could have seen some of the earlier matches (that have a greater chance of being 2-1) as opposed to the later matches that everyone knew the ending to before-hand.

We don’t get paid, only with gratitude from the community!

(which is for us the most important)

FYI: community-based tournaments as AG, DPS (ToL) and AspektGG don’t get you paid. We’re basically volunteers

Also ESL admins are not getting paid being volunteers towards ESL (atleast in GW2 Section)

Looking forward to that option. Little time away from pvp would do them good. As for French – well i’m Polish. If anyone has the right to make fun of France for WWII it’s us (they bailed on us despite being part of mutual protection treaty). And us Poles have very very little tolerance for political correctness. Nearly 50 years of communistic censorship will do that to you:)

It’s still not the right place to discuss such things. Perhaps if you were a WWII veteran yourself but I guess not.

Also, back in the time, the soldiers did what they had ordered from ‘above’. It’s not that the average French soldier could do anything against it nor the average French common folk. Blame the French higher-ups all u want, its the Fuhrer that started all that to begin with. Don’t blame the whole country for a decision made by a few.

It’s an old running joke – the French are the first to run/give up at sign of trouble/conflict. And ironically enough the first game i had this happen to me today it was a french who gave up first and afk’d in base.

I wouldn’t really use such a joke on the public forums, though. It’s kinda disrespectful to them.

On topic: yes, I have it too all the time, it happens and I wish to see a Report option for such behavior.

Forcing your team to lose by boycotting a match is against ToA and Rules of Conduct, yet no such option to Report for that case ingame, sadly.

Now if there would be a Report option for ppl trolling EU queue, that would be great.

Had a player yesterday queue’ing for hours as Norn Warrior, naked and running mace/mace with shouts.
I do know his name but I’m not allowed to share it on the forum.

What he did was just auto-attacking enemies and feeding the enemies. he did this for hours in a row. Not sure what his deal was but it was sad to see my team and/or enemy team lose by just one player constantly feeding himself to the enemies and Svanir/Chieftain.

Don’t say he was a noob or beginner; he actually starts attacking ppl and stop attacking and letting you kill him. Oh and, his guild name was something with [Trol], just so you know..

Also, his name was about “losing the game purposely”, so it was definitely not a noob/beginner.. It was a troll.

His accountname was very familiar to me aswel, so I know it wasn’t really a new player.

Ppl reading this from EU and playing PvP yesterday in Ranked will definitely know what player I’m talking about.

Now why I would request a report option for this behavior is:

Following the ToA and Rules of Conduct, its not allowed to force your team to lose by boycotting the game.

I want this option, NOW.

There are plenty of times that pug teams I’m on stomp guild groups. It’s actually really funny to watch them lose.

You’re forgetting something or may not know this:

If a SoloQ team is facing a premade team (lets say 4-5 full premade), then this premade will 80-90% of the case will have MUCH lower rating than your team.

Most SoloQ’ers actually win vs Guild premades you speak off, not because you’re good, but because matchmaking letting you win by giving you less good opponents.

The opposite is the same; when full premade is facing full SoloQ’ers, mostly those SoloQ’ers will have a better rating.

Anet made it so that when SoloQ Team is facing premade, it picks a premade with much less rating.

And I say ‘much’ because if it would just be a little different, premades wouldn’t lose with TeamSpeak (with a big difference like 100-200points). Obviously it’s mostly the premades losing, which just indicates the difference of rating is too much.

I lost many matches with premades and didn’t understand why.. Now I finally do and just waiting untill they adjust that difference.

TL;DR: Matchmaking gives premades much higher rated SoloQ’ers to fight against and mostly ends up losing vs SoloQ’ers.

PS: If you (almost) always win vs SoloQ’ers with YOUR premade, that’s because there aren’t enough players queue’ing at the same time for matchmaking to do it’s work properly.

You need to train vs that spec. Once you know when the evade duration is over inside the evade animation, it’s actually just a matter of time (talking about 1v1)

When in pvp match, it all depends on your thief and for him, it counts the same as I said above.

I’m up for giving up my air/fire sigil on thief, if you’re up for giving something in return.

The reason I’m saying this is because thief/mesmer actually relies on those sigils to be optimal (read: more than viable for just decaps).

If we would remove air/fire, we’re talking about a huge DPS loss. Thief/Mesmer already in a bad spot current meta with the Cele Engi/Ele/Warr and DPS Guards reigning over us (which, all, throw random conditions over a whole point, making it hard for us to do anything)

Thieves does however fill an important role in situational line-ups that no one can compete with.

But yes, situational at best is not enough, although i do believe we are the cause of this cele/sentinel meta.

I agree with you on this one, due the mobility it has and its unique suppor in burst and stealth (for downed/push).

I still play Thief mostly, it still feels optimal if you don’t rush in and think

+1 to this post.

If i might add to it, other auto attack procs (such as IP on engineer) should not proc on auto attacks either. It promotes passive play on engi making it extremley powerful in 1vs1s and Teamfights by constantly applyin poison and burn on auto attacks.

As for the people claiming that it would destroy certain specs of the build.. (s/d thief/power rangers) you are already getting a damage boost and should consider trait swaps if you really want to invest in damage. There is little trade-off for investing all trait lines to survivability when you have air/fire proc and procs such as IP on auto attacks. Logic dictates, if you want damage you trait for damage, damage should be subtracted otherwise. (the fact the s/d acro offers the same sustained damage as critstrike s/d in 1 minute justifies my arguement.)

Thieves and Mesmers are counting on those kind of procs to be viable. Even the full damage traited. Without Air/Fire, Thieves and mesmers will be totally pushed out of the meta, despite the small buffs they get with upcoming trait changes (not to mention mesmer is already out of the meta in top tier). Everyone will play cele bruiser if they would remove air/fire. So.much.fun.

Also; thieves and mesmer had enough nerfs that they’re on the edge of extinction in PvP.

Unless you’re offering something in return to burst builds to compensate:

Me, someone who used to do WvW/GvG for 24/7 over course of 1.5 years, support this idea. I quit WvW because I felt it lacked the plain, deathmatch between guilds.

Though, the add of Obsidian did show Anet is thinking about its WvW-community, which I’ll never forget still.

Now, if we could have a place where Guild Leaders can use Obsidian Sanctum for GvG on the run, that would be great. Basically like PvE/WvW/PvP and a GvG section now. Where you can teleport with your Guild and challenge other guilds.

I really can’t call Stronghold GvG, although I like the gametype. 5v5 is hardly GvG in any concept, imo.

Ye, matchmaking STILL remains a big problem.

I thought it was bad in EU but honestly, I played pvp in NA on my other account with some fellas last night and NA matchmaking is even worse. Constantly had blow-out matches. (200-300points difference minimum!)

Best of all, it was at NA primetime. So matchmaking should go easier due the more population being available..

Looking at it 6 months later.. my opinion is that if this would be pushed through, Mesmer and Thief would be totally pushed out the meta. Mesmer already in a bad shape, this would make things worse and let Bruisers reign over yet again.

I remember when there was an actual solo q where solo players could face other solo players for rated matches.

Climbed fairly high in that format with just casual play, top 50…. the new format of premade teams fighting solo q players is not right.

Terrorsquad, firstly thankyou for the vid…I’m trying to learn pvp in the unranked Q and its been pretty rough.

I was playing an AH guardian recently (clerics amulet and 3 shouts), and i was yelled at for not sitting on a point all game, which in the end discouraged me from being support and I went a Medit hammer dps lol. From your guide though, it sounds like he was in the wrong maybe? Or is there a circumstance where Ah guard should sit on a point?

First of all, thanks for the kind words!

A Support Guardian should NEVER sit on a point useless. You’re using shouts and soldier rune, which, is built for your team, not for yourself.

The best position in general for a Support Guardian is being where the teamfights are at to, obviously, support your team with your shouts/cleanses/might/rez and safestomps.

I give up. As someone said above, it might be good to actually play pvp once in a while to learn stuff. Just saying stuff without actually be good and just from ‘watching’ games doesn’t make you right at all. If you don’t know pvp as good, you can’t possibly 100% understand whats going on in ESL/go4 Matches. Linking one or 2 vids doesn’t proof anything since RiP and oRNG still win every ESL/Go4 like its peanuts for them. And this remains a fact. Simple.

Oh and they both got Thieves. Winning vs full cele/full bunker/full w/e you want.

They win not because they have a Thief, they win because they are a good team.

Orange Log has a Thief and they’ve won, but their win is not because they have a Thief.

The way you’re arguing is that the Thief is the bread and butter of any team which is never the case.

Have you tried to play other zerkers when there is a competent thief in the enemy team? It absolute horror unless you have a thief aswell who can keep him busy.

Where do you think thief hardcounters mesmer comes from? And Mesmer has way more tools to deal with the constant harrass than a zerker ele for example or other zerker builds. Simply because you cannot kite him but he can easily kite you.

Top teams are at the top for a reason, they understand the game mode probably better than most in this thread myself included and they still all run a thief. I am pretty sure they have good reason to do so.

I understand the reason, however, if you look at oRNG’s line up, none of them main Thief…and that’s a very good indication of a good team.

That’s my point. They won not because they have a Thief in their Multi Profession player, but because they are a good team.

I dont see an ele, engi, necro, warrior either.. So again, invalid arguement.
And Frae actually does MAIN thief, while Denshee actually mains Ele and ROM Warrior. You should know that if you know a bit about the scene.

Its the same saying 5g is multiclass because sometimes he logs on necro for daily /lol

Nevertheless, I have to agree with mbh.8301. The tone can be interpreted as “unfriendly” and a little off-putting, considering the target audience. (Even if that wasn’t your intention)

Just a few examples of text that could have been worded differently:

“Don’t punish others who are playing to win by your lack of knowledge”
“…having your team punished for something that could have been avoided.”
“…it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see where you should go or can help”
“… You have the name Support Guards (aka shoutguards) for a reason, you schmucks!”

The last sentence was actually meant as a joke :< I should not make jokes ever again Q_Q

the main thing we see in thieves in pvp is the ability to decap/cap faster with movement ability and stealth. while looking for the -50% hp enemy who not standing in aoe for fast kill. other than that you dont see them even looking for 1v1 on point rather looking to help in 4v3 or 3v2 and run to decap unguard point
so bascialy roatation rotation rotation (same as mesmer with portal mainly)

That strategy only works if your opponent is rotating with you. Thieves become useless when the opponent starts bunkering and refuse to rotate.

Which, obviously, doesn’t happen in top tier pvp (where they obviously all rotate). Thieves are not only viable, but also optimal in mid to high tier.

We can go at this back and forth but the truth of the matter is, strategy changes during a particular match and as a Thief, you should not focus your build on speed traveling — you need to be able to take out any defender. According to you, Thief cannot do that, nor should they do that.

Rather, what some of us are trying to say is for any player who wants to PvP, they need to learn flexibility. You can’t just say that you’ll play Thief and that’s that. You’re just hurting your team that way.

You should pick a profession that complements your team’s strategy and play style. Pick a profession that will give your team the flexibility it needs even if it means not using a Thief.

About, “Which, obviously, doesn’t happen in top tier pvp (where they obviously all rotate)” — watch the video I linked and tell me if they “ALL” rotate.

Staying on point for few counts is actually rotating aswel (waiting for respawn and/or keeping them busy).
Keep saying Thieves are useless/bad in current PvP is utter ignorance and an opinion, far from being a fact.

Really now? You said it yourself that the only role of Thieves is to find unguarded node and outnumber fights. Neither work in that video match I’ve linked.

The 3 top teams of ALL 3 regions have a Thief.
And hey, they’re the best in their Region (aka they win vs teams without Thieves or aka bunker teams). Coincidence?

What about the teams with Thieves that loses? Like The Abjured vs. Orange Logo?

In that match, Orange Logo’s Thief is just messing around most of the time — not needed — because 3 members of their team, which none are Thief, were carrying the team that won them the game while OL’s Guardian is the one protecting the nodes.

I don’t think so. The proof is there. Even if they’re the best, I admit, they make mistakes too. But it’s easier for us to say as backseatplayers, right?

Ah yes, and the biggest mistake is taking a Thief.

I wonder why Thief “doesn’t got the time” to do 1v1…hmm perhaps it has something to do with the nerf they received and the number increase of the bunker/cele builds? Hmm…

On the contrary, Engi and Necro can 1v1 because all they have to do is to get the defender out of the node so that they can decap/cap it. They don’t need to do damage nor do they need to kill the opposition — just get them off the node and stay tanky.

I give up. As someone said above, it might be good to actually play pvp once in a while to learn stuff. Just saying stuff without actually be good and just from ‘watching’ games doesn’t make you right at all. If you don’t know pvp as good, you can’t possibly 100% understand whats going on in ESL/go4 Matches. Linking one or 2 vids doesn’t proof anything since RiP and oRNG still win every ESL/Go4 like its peanuts for them. And this remains a fact. Simple.

Oh and they both got Thieves. Winning vs full cele/full bunker/full w/e you want.

Why does this point still show up everywhere when someone complains about bad match making?

The PvP rank has absolutely nothing to do with skill!

But it IS implented in the matchmaking. New players facing all Dragon Ranks just PROOFS how broken matchmaking is. (or how matchmaking becomes broken after 2-3mins wait, due low pop)

the main thing we see in thieves in pvp is the ability to decap/cap faster with movement ability and stealth. while looking for the -50% hp enemy who not standing in aoe for fast kill. other than that you dont see them even looking for 1v1 on point rather looking to help in 4v3 or 3v2 and run to decap unguard point
so bascialy roatation rotation rotation (same as mesmer with portal mainly)

That strategy only works if your opponent is rotating with you. Thieves become useless when the opponent starts bunkering and refuse to rotate.

Which, obviously, doesn’t happen in top tier pvp (where they obviously all rotate). Thieves are not only viable, but also optimal in mid to high tier.

We can go at this back and forth but the truth of the matter is, strategy changes during a particular match and as a Thief, you should not focus your build on speed traveling — you need to be able to take out any defender. According to you, Thief cannot do that, nor should they do that.

Rather, what some of us are trying to say is for any player who wants to PvP, they need to learn flexibility. You can’t just say that you’ll play Thief and that’s that. You’re just hurting your team that way.

You should pick a profession that complements your team’s strategy and play style. Pick a profession that will give your team the flexibility it needs even if it means not using a Thief.

About, “Which, obviously, doesn’t happen in top tier pvp (where they obviously all rotate)” — watch the video I linked and tell me if they “ALL” rotate.

Staying on point for few counts is actually rotating aswel (waiting for respawn and/or keeping them busy).
Keep saying Thieves are useless/bad in current PvP is utter ignorance and an opinion, far from being a fact.

The 3 top teams of ALL 3 regions have a Thief.
And hey, they’re the best in their Region (aka they win vs teams without Thieves or aka bunker teams). Coincidence?

I don’t think so. The proof is there. Even if they’re the best, I admit, they make mistakes too. But it’s easier for us to say as backseatplayers, right?

I stick to my opinion that Thieves remain a must for a good-high tier team and certainly in the coming patch (if the traits remain the same as shown in preview)

U never played GW1

I did. I have 50/50 and GWAMM (long before GW2 was released).

Then you surely know fake casts where one of the most important (if not he most important) mechanic for monks and midlaners.

Nah man, you know pve’ers had no incentive to cancel cast.

whats with the wack a mole approach to balance?

i gave a turret engi a go and maybe played 500 or so ranked matches with it prob another 500 on my ranger

in all that time i didnt see that they were that op – any decent team or just 1 guy who knows how to counter a turret engi can do it pretty effectively – now they dont even have to try

anyway i dont understand why you listen to people who cry without doing any research into how to counter a turret engi

turrets arnt the problem with engies – the decap potential is.. its the only class that has massive decap ability – thats what should be nurfed -

Nope. Anyone not having a clue will acknowledge.
The problem wasn’t as you put it, that turrets were too strong.
The problem was, that one single build, using turrets with a sentinel bunker setup was too strong, but that wasn’t a flaw with the power level of turrets.
Yet instead of addressing the problem at hand, arena.net blanket nerfed an entire skill type. That’s like shelling a village with artillery, because a single terrorist is hiding there.

Turrets = AI
All other AI = Inlfuenced by condi/crits
Engi AI’s = Not influenced by Condi and Crit + much more HP, CC, Regen and Damage than other AI (not fair)

Balance = Job well done.
Its pure logic, if you ask me.

When I was testing turret engi, I was winning fights so easily (vs beginners AND experienced players) which you shouldn’t win

I really would like to have VOIP in the game, that would be like, for me personally, the best thing they could implent in PvP.

  • You can mute your VOIP if u dont wanna listen
  • You can actually teach/steer beginners/less experienced pvp in the matches without wasting time to type and die while doing so (which, eventually, kittenes you off even more if you cant talk through voip)
  • Will enhance gameplay overall and a faster learning curve

You say it works on any skill that has animation and cast time.
Well go ahead and try it on ranger longbow skills like point blank shot which is very similar to pin down regarding animation and cast time(faster though).

Also worth mentioning conjure weapon skills, engi kits etc. can’t be stowed.

I’ll try this 2morrow (longbow point blank). Normally it should work if it has a ramp-up animation.

For Ranger Longbow Skills: I tried this and you’re right. Even when stowing right before the animation, the skill goes into its original cooldown. I don’t think this should be the case, doesn’t make sense.. Only the Auto-Attack can be stowed.
