You say it works on any skill that has animation and cast time.
Well go ahead and try it on ranger longbow skills like point blank shot which is very similar to pin down regarding animation and cast time(faster though).

Also worth mentioning conjure weapon skills, engi kits etc. can’t be stowed.

I’ll try this 2morrow (longbow point blank). Normally it should work if it has a ramp-up animation.

And yes, engi kits cannot be stowed, only actual weapons you CAN stow (weapons you wear, pistol/shield or rifle on Engi).
And ofc some utilties and elites as said in the video

As said above, u can swap kits/weps to interupt/cancel kit skills

1. Ele/Shoutbow can be downed in 2 seconds by thief/mesmer, that’s… plain knowledge by now.
2. If you say a class which can’t decap in a short time, than d/d eles and shoutbow are bad too. (following your theory:
" If you can’t at minimum decap the point in a realistic amount of time, you’re too weak for the format. Thieves have no decap tools…" Do eles have decap tools? Or Shoutbow?) I bet I can faster decap a point as Thief vs Shoutbow than Shoutbow vs Shoutbow.
3. Comps with 1 thief will mostly win vs full cele/bunker, because of rotations purely, even if u stay stationary and play close-mid all the time. The team with the dps will eventually take over your points slowly and you’ll punish yourself with lack of damage to capture it back

Thanks for posting this Terror! It’s helpful, useful, and most importantly a good example of a problem.

Vincent is 100% correct – thief is completely outclassed in the current meta. Your video and tips almost explicitly say so.

“Don’t try to 1v1 unless it’s a thief (the weak class you’re playing) or a mesmer (the class thief hard counters).” – what other class in the game running its meta spec can only handle 1/4 of the class choices in a 1 on 1?

“Only outnumber fights, don’t try to even them up” – Thief isn’t even good enough to run in an even fight – they’re only good for +1’ing a fight, which isn’t heartening, any class can make a fight uneven and do so successfully. What good is outnumbering a fight then you’re leaving your team outnumbered somewhere else?

I’ve said this before, but what good is mobility if you’re kitten near worthless when you get to your point? If you’re so weak that you can only make a difference when your outnumbering your opponents, why bother? As vincent keeps saying, taking a class that can effectively defend a point instead of a thief means less rotation, which means more points, which means winning the game.

Thief is in a horrible place right now – your guide paints a very clear portrait of that.

You can’t look at a class that shouldn’t 1v1 6 out of 7 classes (we won’t count thief v thief for obvious reasons) and shouldn’t even consider evening up a fight and pretend it’s in a good place.

Hmm, I think you missunderstood the point of not having a 1v1 with a thief..

Let me explain with a concrete example:

  • Point A has enemy d/d ele grabbing it
  • You, as thief, should not engage
  • If you do, it’s not that you’ll lose (well, eventually yes, vs an ele) but you’ll be +1’d by the enemy because the fight takes TOO long.
  • Fights that take long are an extra oppurtunity for the Thief/mesmer to +1, obviously.

So again, the reason why you should not 1v1 as Thief (or basically w/e class you play which can’t decap quick enough or contest the point long enough) is because you get the risk of being +1’d. Not because the thief is weak.

Example:

  • Sending a Shoutwarr to Point A in prev example to fight
  • Fight will take atleast a minute if you let it end
  • Doesn’t take a minute for Mes/Thief to come by and burst your shoutbow down in 2seconds
  • Point A lost + 1 bunker/cele on respawn

While I don’t think the OP’s suggestion is exactly the change we’re going to go with, I thought I’d drop by and let you all know that the effectiveness of turret engineer is something we’re looking into very closely right now. Once our plans are a bit more concrete I’ll give an update.

kitten , Vincent, since when did you get so negative about being a Thief in PvP? lol.

But I do agree with you though, I’ve always felt that no matter where I went, I was not helping at all since a good bunker will destroy me, or any other glass-ish profession will destroy me too. I can dance around a bit off the node, but with the amount of AoEs that every other class can stack, there’s nothing really I can do.

Exactly! — even watching the so-called-pros leaves me disappointed. One Thief taking the OP’s advice trying to outnumber the opponent but failed horribly and costs them the game. On the other team, the Thief is so bored because the rest of his team is doing so well without him. /facepalm /shakeshead

I can’t help but wonder how ‘good’ you must be on Thief.. If you’re disappointed about good thieves, what does that make you? A better one, right? I don’t know you, though..

Edit: there’s not a single sign of you on current Leaderboard nor the pre-december Leaderboard.. I wonder…

A good solution in my opinion would be to be able to do something in the Mists. My first idea would be a dueling area, where your duel would be instantly interrupted by a queue popping.

If in match:

  • You don’t engage them unless u outnumber them

If in 1v1:

  • Bait out blocks/blinds with SB but mind their medi-opening (Judges + Hammer5/Gs5)
  • Poison
  • Use Stolen skill when they’re 50%ish HP and already used the cleansing/stun break medi’s

Burst is worthless. I’ve seen bunker Engi doesn’t even care about damage or burst as long as they can launch you out of the node so they can bunker down and cap it.

Like I said, if you can defend the node, no need to rotate. In a 3-1-1 split, even if you outnumber 3v5, they will only lose one node that they can retake on respawn.

And if it takes your whole team to take a node…I don’t believe you don’t see a problem there.

  • If you’re going to replace Thief for a Warrior (assuming you don’t have a warrior yet), you’re in for an outrotation. Warriors are slow, despite their leap/swiftness (if we’re talking about the Meta).

As I said. Effectively defending a node requires less for rotation. If you can force the other team to always outnumber your team, that’s a win because they will always be outnumbered somewhere else.

  • Shoutwarrs weak spot is burst. Your enemy thief is in for a free kill on your warrior once he’s outnumbered for few seconds.

Seeing that the Warrior is keeping the Thief and another enemy in a node means that the enemy team is outnumbered in other nodes.

My point is, every time the Thief leaves to outnumber a fight, they are weakening a node somewhere. I’ve seen this every time. Whenever a Thief helps to outnumber a fight, his team loses 1-2 nodes.

FYI;

  • Any other class can take a node.. Ok.. But what environment of PvP are we talking about? Beginners, average or experienced?

Does it really matter? Even watching the ESL shows that a Thief in a team is the weakest link.

Because afaik a d/d cele ele should not try to decap from another d/d cele ele over a point.. In an average/experience environment. Basically, you don’t try to decap a point unless its big in your favor (free or the one you counter; Ele vs Engi)

That’s exactly my point. Thief doesn’t counter anyone, but everyone counters Thief.

My advise to you is to keep playing PvP. Once you get more experienced and start playing against more skilled opponents you’ll begin to see why thieves are so good in PvP, at least in my opinion.

It’s not really about me playing the profession, rather it’s about watching Thieves in tournaments that makes me face palm and shake my head. Not because the player is bad, rather it’s because Thief is a bad choice for PvP seeing what the current meta is — it’s anti-Thief.

Making Thief sounds like they make a difference in PvP only adds insult to injury.

Thieves are fine in PvE and WvW, but in PvP they suck. It’s hard to believe that the OP is even being serious about this topic.

Ye, that’s why the number 1 teams of the world have thieves, right..?
Like, every Region; NA, EU and China nr1 teams have thieves…

You must be joking.. There’s no other way, right?

You don’t really get the Conquest rotation of thieves or you must be trolling..
For someone with an own website, you should be more careful about what you post and say on the forums… (and come with facts, not personal experiences to proof a point)

To the ppl that are still posting, note that you are in ranked. Currently I lose every ranked match I have, but still have a decent time of it in unranked. No idea what the real difference is but I know the formula is different.

I used to have better match-ups in Unranked but lately, I’m mostly farming ppl there unless its a premade..

I’m in a matchup now where it’s 3-1-1 vs 1-1-1-1-1.

I’m wondering what or where the sPvP designer(s) got their experience from because it shows that they are severely lacking.

As far I can understand is the matchmaking becomes more broad aslong the queue time goes on. But after 2 mins I already got queue with solo’ers vs premade…

If the enemy’s Thief is taking your advice to only engage a Thief or Mesmer in 1v1, then they should be able to take you out, right?

If not, then your advice doesn’t really work. :/

Engaging =/= winning the 1v1 ^-^

What’s the point if you can’t win? O.0

If u know you can’t win (based on earlier engages) then you just don’t and +1 anywhere else instead

What if you can’t win that either? I’ve seen Necros and Engineers who can keep 2-3 enemies in the node while defending it even against Thieves. If you’re a Thief and cannot defend or take a node by yourself, then perhaps you’re better off playing another class…right?

Not really, with +1 I mean outnumbering a fight (making 2v2 into 3v2)
If u fail that, then you need to practice a bit more

That’s my point. If you go with a teammate to outnumber a bunker Engi — and fail — how exactly do you “practice” for that situation?

However, if you choose to play Necro instead of Thief, you can single-handedly take the point away from a bunker Engi — no need to +1 anyone.

Besides, if it takes 3 of you to handle 2 of them (3v2), that means your team is not holding a node or just about to lose a node because chances are, one of your node is also outnumbered.

Let’s say two nodes are guarded by bunker Engi each and the mid-node has 3 enemy players guarding it. As a Thief, what is your primary role?

It is a known fact that Thief cannot decap from a bunker Engi and to outnumber the mid-node that means you’ll have to 4v3 them, if not 5v3.

Do you see where I’m getting at?

Then mid is priority because, as u said, the thief can’t kill a bunker/decap engi.
Also, if u succeed getting mid in that big teamfight, you can just snowball onto the bunker engi

FYI: necro might be able to take down an engi, but necro has alot more counters than a thief. Let’s not even talk about mobility

  • A Thief can’t kill bunker (Sentinel) Engineers alone, and he shouldn’t even try. Thieves are meant to +1 fights, to make it swift as possible.

Any other profession can +1 fight and can even take nodes alone.

Thieves offer burst on demand for their team, unlike Necro’s

Hey Bro, wanted to ask you something. Can a skillful S/D thief beat every class if both opponents are evenly experienced? Speaking mainly about WVW cause I rarely WVWVW so I can’t say anything about it. At least make it a draw and not run away as a thief. I get that you can disengage in wvw but I’d rather not if it’s a 1v1

I would like to say yes, but it’s a no in WvW environment.

Condi mesmers, condi engineers, axe/shield/hammer or GS warriors are normally your downfall there

This is your problems really. You’re bringing glassy builds against tanky opponents. If this was League of Legends, that’s like saying to Riot, “hey Riot, ban all armor and magic resistance items from the game because I can’t one shot everything, and whenever I fail to do my wombo combo I die to Udyr”.

Trust me, it would be even worse if they would’ve played bunker/tanky classes.

You can do both aslong you didn’t win prices in one of them.

Meaning:

  • You can sign up for the EU one
  • If you got into first or second place in EU AG, then you’re not allowed to sign up for the NA one
  • If you did not get into first or second place in EU AG, then you’re allowed to join NA

We do not yet support Free Agents in EU

Man, I lost like 100 spots and 5-6% ratio because of matchmaking in 2 days.. Wtf is this she.t?

If the enemy’s Thief is taking your advice to only engage a Thief or Mesmer in 1v1, then they should be able to take you out, right?

If not, then your advice doesn’t really work. :/

Engaging =/= winning the 1v1 ^-^

What’s the point if you can’t win? O.0

If u know you can’t win (based on earlier engages) then you just don’t and +1 anywhere else instead

What if you can’t win that either? I’ve seen Necros and Engineers who can keep 2-3 enemies in the node while defending it even against Thieves. If you’re a Thief and cannot defend or take a node by yourself, then perhaps you’re better off playing another class…right?

It is a known fact that Thief cannot decap from a bunker Engi and to outnumber the mid-node that means you’ll have to 4v3 them, if not 5v3.

Do you see where I’m getting at?

Then mid is priority because, as u said, the thief can’t kill a bunker/decap engi.
Also, if u succeed getting mid in that big teamfight, you can just snowball onto the bunker engi

FYI: necro might be able to take down an engi, but necro has alot more counters than a thief. Let’s not even talk about mobility

I’m not sure what you mean by that.

  • I did not agree nor think that thief is useless in PvP.
  • A Thief can’t kill bunker (Sentinel) Engineers alone, and he shouldn’t even try. Thieves are meant to +1 fights, to make it swift as possible.

Any other profession can +1 fight and can even take nodes alone.

Thieves offer burst on demand for their team, unlike Necro’s

Then take a Warrior instead…I’m still not convinced that Thief is useful in PvP. Sure they can travel fast, but in 3-1-1 split where 2 nodes are held by Engis, traveling fast has no value.

  • Any other class can +1, but can’t deliver burst on demand => resulting in being slow in rotations and being outnumbered/outrotated later on (assuming enemy team has a Thief)
  • If you’re going to replace Thief for a Warrior (assuming you don’t have a warrior yet), you’re in for an outrotation. Warriors are slow, despite their leap/swiftness (if we’re talking about the Meta).
  • Shoutwarrs weak spot is burst. Your enemy thief is in for a free kill on your warrior once he’s outnumbered for few seconds.

FYI;

  • Any other class can take a node.. Ok.. But what environment of PvP are we talking about? Beginners, average or experienced? Because afaik a d/d cele ele should not try to decap from another d/d cele ele over a point.. In an average/experience environment. Basically, you don’t try to decap a point unless its big in your favor (free or the one you counter; Ele vs Engi)

[Delay] Any Plans For Ppl EU playing on NA?

So at the last WTS, I’ve bought myself a new account to PvP in NA, though, I’m originally an EU player.

People were talking before about delay/lag playing cross-region.

This is absolutely true:

  • Can’t Stow my Auto-attack or sometimes long casting skills
  • Most skills have a 0.2 – 0.5s delay until proc
  • Being burst mid-dodge
  • Skipped/Freezes
  • Enemies (and/or prolly me) teleporting time to time

Question:

  • Will anything be done about having a better connection for ppl playing cross-region in PvP, in the near future?

FYI:

  • Yes, I tried WTFast and it doesn’t really help that much. (Goes from 180ping to 150ping)

Ye, its community is very fine and happy. (Most Toxic Community known to man)
Also, u cant compare LoL to GW2 PvP at all. Some ‘roles’ are the same, but no way is the strat etc the same

Its toxicity doesn’t stem from the possibility to duoq.

Nor can u compare GW2 with LoL, totally different.
Class Stacking, Roles, Conquest etc etc

EU and NA are different Megaservers I think, so you have to send the stuff via Mail instead of guild bank

NA and EU are complete different regions and cannot play together.

With the new exchange system, you can only accept 500g per week per account, both Guild Bank and Ingame mail together..

This was implented starting 31th of March

Just tested myself:

  • After putting gold from NA account into the Guild Bank, I was not able to retrieve it from EU account.
  • Neither can I claim the gold back onto my NA account, basically it’s stuck untill weekly reset..

Sigh..

Can anyone explain me if:

  • On my NA account I’ve put all my farmed gold into Guild Bank [ZeuS] (500’ish gold)
  • On my EU accoun (main), I withdraw the 500g from the Guild Bank [ZeuS] and put into my Wallet.

Question:

  • Will I still be able to accept gold through Ingame Mail before reset on my EU Account? (donations etc for my youtube/stream)

If not; anyway possible to transfer gold between 2 accounts when max is reached?

Trolls in 1v1 arena?

Angz has a decent community and works on only 1v1 being able to enter at once with the rest in spectator, the map resets at 50 points so any troll refusing to leave when the Admin isnt available you can just cap a node. Perhaps you could suggest some of these things to the owner of your prefered 1v1 arena or come visit Angz to see if its a system you’d like to use.

I would rather vote to bring SoloQ back. SoloQ’ers should NEVER face any premades nor parties of 2-3-4. Even with SAME’ish MMR, VOIP gives a too big advantage.

LoL puts DuoQ’ers into SoloQ and I don’t think there’s a much negativity about that.

I think there are a few new EU PvP guilds:

  • Potato Club (semi-hardcore; rank 40+,with TS)
  • Tactical Terrorists (same [tPvP] but changed name) Quite high requirements (1k games, rank +70 etc)
  • We Caused The [Nerf] (hardcore, with TS and weekly eliminations of members who arent that good)
  • [CRIT] Team Critical Hit (I think its that) quite new, no requirements afaik
