The silk was dysfunctional since the beginning of the game. It was not even profitable to put it on the TP and we were better off selling it to a vendor NPC. Too much silk and way too limited use of it. They changed the situation drastically. It was necessary but is it a good thing in the long run?
-The mithril ore sell for about 50-60 Copper each and its use for part of the Heavy Ascended Armor.
- The Thick Leather Section sell for about 9 Cooper each and its use for part of the Medium Armor.
- Silk crap sell for about 250 Copper each and its use for part of Heavy, part of Medium and all of Light Armor.
So the silk is now 4 to 25 more expensive that the other two and you need it 4 times more across the three type of Armor. What would be the best solution? Maybe its the other 2 that are way too low on price? The leather certainly is. Maybe the perfect balance should be that each of the three were around 1 silver each. That would certainly help if the number of these material needed for each armor would be more balance. For exemple if you need 1 Damask, 1 Elonian Leather and 1 Deldrimar to craft 1 Insignia.
Its a balance between skills base defense (i’m talking about the skills in the game not the player skill with the game even if the latter influence a bit i won’t go into that) and passive stats defense.
Each profession have a balance between its level of HP, its level of Armor and the skills passive or active that they have.
For exemple two extreme :
The Warrior have 18K base Hp which is the highest amount in the game. Its also a Heavy armor meaning that he can absorb way more damage that any other profession in the game without adding any defensive stats. On the other hand he have limited access to defensive boons like regen, protection, vigor, etc. He don’t have a lot of active defensive skills with only 1 Condi Removal, 1 Block and 1 skill that make you invulnerable against direct attack but not condition or cc.
At the other extreme you have the Elementalist. This profession have 11k hp and wear light armor making this the more squishy profession of the game. But the Elementalist have three things that help him survive. His mobility, his access to defensive boons/additional healing skill and his active defensive skills that count among the strongest in the game. And on top of that, his attunements allow an elementalist to have access to all of this at all time.
If you have difficulty with the Charzooka skill 5 and get hit sometime because you are not fast enough don’t worry. Use skill that are break stun and condition removal or skills that are break stun and give you stability. Use these skills for the fear and keep your chazooka skill 5 for the Ice Bomb and Wall of Ice which can down you.
Anyway AP are only good for extreme. I know that someone with less than 1000 AP is relatively new and don’t have his level 80 for a long time now. On the other hand i know that someone with 10 000 AP played the game for some time now.
That is all the information you can get from AP. Can you really say that a guys that chase living story achievement, JP, daily and monthly is a better player compare to a guys that don’t give a crap about AP and just play WvW, sPvP or dungeon?
What the OP is saying is true, but why giving three of the worst example.
1) Mount. This is something some people want and other people don’t want. This idea was generated by players and argue between players. Anet don’t have anything to do with this. Frankly their answer was more : Its a possibility, but we can’t say yes or no because its not on the table right now. Its only an idea and Anet is probably not working on it so they cannot say if the game can support it or this would need too much work to make it happen.
2) Precusor crafting. Really people are still asking question about it. Its probably one of the point we had the more information on all along the work that Anet put on it. Last year it was an idea about a scavenger hunt, then it was officially a precursor crafting that was coming in the second half of 2013. Then we got updated a couple of month ago that this feature will most probably not make it in 2013. Then we have a new that say that the 4 first update of 2014 will be about the living story and that the next update will be a big feature update (non officially most ppl including me are saying : so precursor crafting should appear in the second half of march 2014), then we have a news that the after the 4 last living story they will take a pause before the big feature update right before summer (so the update and maybe crafting precursor should be between march and may?? but speculation). Anet was really transparent with us about this feature updating us each couple months on it. But people are still not happy with that.
3) Again Anet only said that it an idea they are looking into. This can mean that right now nobody is actively working on it, maybe its only in brainstorm, maybe its in art preview, maybe some devs are working on that, we don’t know. Its not because some people really want THAT particular feature that its now in the top of the to do list of Anet.
The best advice i would give you is the same for every MMO. This is not a Single player RPG. Sure you can play it like that, but if you truly want to try the experience of a MMO you need to play with other people. Do you have friend that play GW2? If yes try to play with them and join their guild if it looks like what you want to do. If no, still search for a guild. Here on the forum, somewhere else in the web or in-game. Use VoiP with the guild. If you stick to chat only you will never really be part of the ’’gang’’ in most guild with some exception. Usually people include people with them in the Voip first and if there is still place in their party they will ask in the guild chat. Participate, when people is talking about something you don’t know ask them what it is, etc. Playing alone, you will have fun for a good time, but eventually will run out of things to do. Some content are not suppose to be done solo, other need some knowledge/experience that is way more easy and fun to get with people helping you, other you will probably never heard of if you don’t talk to other people. With people to talk to you could make your experience last for several years and not only 6 months.
I have 2 legendary, 1 full ascended character, 7 exotic/ascended characters, 1 commander tag. I’m not the richest guys in the game, but I probably have more than most. Here what i did mostly.
- Speed run dungeon. Choose which one to do, be good at it.
- The rest is having fun.
If you good enough at speed running dungeon, then you can make between 3-7 Gold per hours doing it. This exclude all the loots that i usually salvage or deposit collectible, selling only major sigils/runes and exotic selling at more than 1 gold. You should be able to get 100-150 gold per month out of this. At the end of the month if you sell all the stuff that you know you won’t use then you should be able to get an additional 20-50 Gold, you can maximize your profit by checking the price on the TP and selling your stuff when the price is higher (these prices always change so you may get a couple gold more out of this). Do AC because of the 1.5 Gold at the end, other than that do CoE, CoF and HotW to get token that you can use to buy rare of level 70+ (30 token only) that you can salvage for ectos. I usually use these ectos but you can sell them for about 20-60 more gold in the month.
These numbers add up to 140 -270 gold per month only for doing dungeon about 1-2 hours per days. Add to that dailies for some laurel. Each laurel can buy you an Heavy Crafting bag with 3 Tier 6 fine crafting material. If you use all your laurel on that it give you 150 Tier 6 that you can sell for about 45 more Gold each month.
For about 10-20 hours of GW2 per week you can get between 150 to 300 Gold per month this way. Of course if you only play 10 hours per week don’t do that only, because you gonna get tired of doing dungeon and daily only. The main point is to learn how to speed run, which in my case was really fun to do with my guildmates and friends.
EDIT : Another way to make gold is Ori and Ancient Wood. Use website like gw2nodes to find the server with the best locations of these nodes and guest on it. The more efficient way is too have multiple character and use them to gather a small numbers of nodes that are really near one to each other. I stop doing that because i don’t really need much gold right now (don’t plan on another legendary yet), but about a month ago i parked all my alts at Frostgorges sound and guest to a server will the 2 ori and 2 wood were near. This use to give me about 50 ori and 50 wood each day for about 15min of work. Depending on the prices this is about 3.5 Gold and more each day. Me I kept them and sell them when ascended armor were release so i could sell them twice their normal price.

I think the problem are not speed run, elitist or anything like that. The problem is when people want those thing but don’t put it in the LFG.
Like Elry said (even if i’m not good with the way he say it), you can join a LFG with only ‘’Path 2’’ in the description and be kick without reason. If someone don’t want a Necro in his party he should right it in the LFG and not only kick every necro that enter the group. If everybody was thinking before making there post this would fix a lof of problem. But some people are expecting that a normal run will be speed run, skip, all experienced and all zerker this is not true. If you want those thing and are ready to kick if someone don’t meet them, then you should write it in the LFG.
I try as much as possible to whisper to the person why i kick him. Usually because I ask for speed run and someone clearly don’t know the path well. I also try to give the guys a chance when i clearly see that he have very low amount of AP (like less that 500) or looks like he have basic blue/green armor on him, by asking him if he’s sure that he’s at the right place in a speed run. But i’m still human and sometime i’m not that kind. When its late and i want to a do a last run before going to sleep or when 3 low level join a normal path1 and 3 run of ac, etc.
You are partially wrong. Most people did dungeon the ’’normal’’ way at least once. But then after a while the majority of players want to speed things up. Its normal to try to make things easier, faster, more efficient, more rewarding, its in ourselves. Some people do this only for faster rewards while other do this for the fun of pushing yourself to make the best run possible (this can include your build, your group, your method, where you can skip, etc). For me and most of my guild its a mix of the two.
People label as elitist are usually those who ask for specific things to get a smooth run either for speed or simply to don’t have any problem in the dungeon. Usually they in the LFG they ask something specific like zerker only, ping gear or be kick, have more than X amount of AP, etc. Don’t only view these people in a negative ways. Like most of us they did dungeons hundred of times and had a few or a lot of negative experience with pugs. They only want to have smooth and fast run and make sure they get what they want. Some of jerk but its like you know the rest of humanity.
Under elitist, there is people that want the same things and but don’t give a crap about others people build. They also want a smooth and fast run but don’t bother to min max everythings. Usually on the LFG they ask speed runs, be experienced, etc. They usually expect you to know the path well and know most of the tricks, skip, etc. Like everywhere there is different people. Some will kick you if you don’t know what your are doing, other like me will tel you that next time don’t join a speed run if you don’t know how to speed run but will explain how if you look like a good player and listen to what i say. It also depend on how much time we have in front of us or how we are feeling today (sometime i just don’t feel like explaining).
Those two kind of post of the LFG you should avoid until you know what you enter. For you and for others. If they ask for something its their right, they took the time to write what they want, be kind enough to read and respect that. You can’t really complaint if you get kick when not reaching what was expecting of you.
But after that there is a lot of different people looking for different things. The best things you could do is either :
1) Make your own post of LFG. new player in dungeon or Looking for veteran to explain, something like that. That ways people know what they enter and what to expect.
2) Enter LFG where nothing special in description like : AC path 1 and 3. There is a chance its a speed group too lazy to write it or that just didn’t think about writing it. There is also a chance that some jerk will say something bad to you. Best way to avoid it, explain your situation at the beginning (preferably before you enter the dungeon). Say that you are new bug want to learn. After a couple run, you can say that you only did a couple of run so be patient with me, etc. That way either they kick you right away no hard feeling, they let you run with them, or best they show you more and more about the dungeon each time you enter a new run.
3) Join a guild and ask them to show you dungeon. This is by far the best option. But for some people finding the right guild can be hard, especially if you have no friend that play GW2.
Well the same situation (i didn’t use the word problem here intentionally) occurs with Exotic Armor. For me its far easier to do dungeon run, accumulating gold and tokens, then use these tokens to buy my exotic armor. But for other, they use karma, other prefer paying gold to buy 1 set of armor, while other use crafting to gear up several alt.
The same thing will happen with rings. Its easier to get them by FotM, but if you dislike it or don’t only do 1-2 run each weeks? Then you can go with laurels, but if you want to keep laurel for ascended gear recipe? or you prefer to use Laurel for Tier 6 because you are doing a legendary? Or if you really what this mini that cost a high number of laurel? Then now you don’t really have anyways to get Rings that fit your gameplay. There is why ascended jewel crafting will be useful.
What i expect them to give us in the big feature update?
- Cooking and Jeweler at 500
- Precusor Crafting
- New Legendary Weapons and Legendary Item
- Edge of the Mist Map
- Account Wide WXP
- Fractal Leaderboard
What i would like them to give us in addition?
- PvE Armor Locker
- Addition of new skills and trait
- Improvement of different interface and fonction for the Guild Panel, TP, LFG tools, etc
- Additional ways of getting ascended
I love stress of difficult odd, not impossible odds, just difficult. Where you have a rush of adrenaline and focus on the moment and nothing else. The kind of situation that you laugh and shout about it that you win or lose. It can be from a open field zerg vs zerg, it can be when i defend a keep against waves of enemies during hours, it can be when we finally break the siege barrage at SMC to fight in the middle of it against a sizeable opponent, it can be me and my friend defending a tower against a group of 10+, it can be a 1 vs 1 fight again a opponent of similar skill that last for minutes…
That’s what I love about WvW, a lot of stuff can happen and most of that happen when you play against a ennemy that don’t outnumber you and that you don’t outnumber. Ha if only WvW will make sure nobody can have 50 people against 10 in a particular map these moments would be more present.
I usually play with 3 to 10 person in my Guild’s mumble so maybe I don’t really see when the map chat is dead silent. But i remember a lot of times when I had fun on the map chat. In dungeon I’m usually with 2-4 guildmates so i’m talking mostly to them via mumble, also a bit tougher to play while you are in a dungeon, but when something special happen i’ll always participate in the chat. In WvW it depend. In a big night more people chat about the situation and as a commander i tend to keep my chatting on the map short so i can stay concentrate. In a bad night where you are outnumber then people are usually not really chatty for a reason, losing is never fun. The best time his when the situation is calm and you are winning, then you have more time to chat and people are more happy to participate.
But the best place to chat are when i farm. In Queensdale or World Boss even. I usually end up auto-running in a wall at several occasion, always funny to see the reaction of people when they see the commander doing that ; )
I play all three part of the game for different reasons.
PvE : Its a MMO, the PvE part the core of the game. I like to team up with my team again an objective and feel a progression with my character.
sPvP : Its competitive, fast pace, don’t always know what you gonna get into and always need focus. But in the end, if i want a PvP fix i’ll go a PvP game and i rarely do more than 3-5 sPvP match with or without friend before moving on.
WvW : I know the op said not wvw, but its part of the game. For the first 6 month of the game I stayed with PvE since it was all new, but as the time past I put more and more time into WvW and less into PvE. Even if a lot of people say it only zerg vs zerg and that z vs z is no skill press 1 and it suck (which i don’t find true at all), even if this mode need huge work to bring balance between the numbers of each server, i still love it.
In the end i try to enjoy most of the game and don’t fall into the classic :
Pvers saying that sPvP and WvW need no skill, but they do
sPvPers saying that PvE and WvW need no skill, but they do
and WvWers saying that PvE and sPvP need no skill, but they do
When your stats in your hero panel are Green this mean that they have been modified by something. It can me numerous things like scale down, scale up in specific zone, boons, buff, nourishment, skills etc. This can come from you, a nearby ally or from your environment.
In your case its your Assassin’s Signet. The passive effect of that signet increase your power by this formulat : 2 x (10 + level). For you it mean that it incease your power by 2 x (10 + 38) = 96 power. The number : ‘’Inceases Attack 447’’ mean that without any modification your base power is 447. If you add up your base power and the buff you gain from your signet : 447 + 96 = 543 Power and this number is shown in green since its not your base power. If you change your Asssassin’s Signet with something else you should see 447 and if you put your mouse over it then you should also see ’’Increase Attack 447, because your base power is the same as your effective current power.
You know what will be great? If they released an update that had nothing to do with story whatsoever: adding guild features, fixing abysmal loot system, adding precursor hunt, fixing bugs and skills – all the features they promised in 2013.
Where did they promise these things?
Also, there’s supposed to be just a patch for features and QoL updates after the last LS patch in March.
Oh I don’t know, they said that they’re already working on precursor hunt back in Januray 2013 and that it will be implemented later than year.
3 of the elements you names were never promise. They simply said : ‘’ya we are thinking about it’’. For the precusor hunt you way late in the news. The hunt was just a idea more than a year ago, at that time only 1 person at anet was on the project and it was only when she had time for it. 8 month ago it was a ongoing project about crafting precusor and 2-3 months ago Anet said that it will be postpone to 2014.
Anyway, Anet official said that a couple of weeks ago that the first 4 release of 2014 will finish the current living story and the next one will be a feature only release. You should at least read what Anet say don’t you think.
1) WvW Balance : I like WvW. But kitten its a hard place to find balance in numbers. I don’t totally blame that one on Anet, I pass long hours with friend talking about how to fix that and its hard as hell. But if there is way to balance number between server this would make WvW so brilliant. Making the gameplay more diverse, more engaging and allowing everybody to be able to fight more than 3-4 servers ever.
2) Narrative : Even if the quest system is better that more traditional mmo, this is traditional mediocre quality in term of Narrative. NPC may have a voice but usually its a inexpressive one reading a poor dialogue line by a poorly designed character.
3) Living Story : Temporary content and bad story telling what a terrible combination. Don’t get me wrong some of the update were really nice. Halloween the first year, the karka fight at Southsun Cove (even if it wasn’t perfect), the Aether Path, SAB, etc. But most of them are cheap content boost by an achievement hunt. Do it small I don’t care, but make it good and permanent to improve the game, not leave only a bad taste in our mouth while the game don’t improve.
4) The Unity of DPS : I don’t want to get back to the Holy Trinity and find this system better, but still he lack some diversity in kind. I make fun of people trying to support our group with healing power and this is sad. They said their new Trinity is DPS, Support and CC then prove it.
5) Ranged weapons : I understand that Melee have more dps since they are riskier but seriously we can melee most of the stuff after a couple of run making range attack useless. Hell even a Ranger is better in melee.
Its a MMO not a Single Player RPG, its designed to be played with friend. During the summer I was in a similar place. My friends in my guild were playing less and less, some even simply quit the game and I often played alone after the job or the weekend. I eventually stop to play even if i was like 150 gold away from my legendary.
I came back a couple month ago, by this point most of my friend had came back to the game too, played more and a bunch of new awesome people joined the guild. From the beginning of the game I always love to do a bit of everything but now my guild followed me in sPvP for a couple of match everytime, i finished my legendary, then a second one, helped my 5 guildmates to craft their first legendary, bough a commander tag and bring my friends to help me in WvW, we do Guild Missions everyweek, we try to bring more and more people higher in fractal, we participate or start World Boss Zerg. Dungeon were the main things i used to do back in the days, now i have barely the time for 1 or 2 dungeons each week. If you like only one part of the game you are doom to get tired of it eventually and quit the game. Get a guild and some friend and do a bit of everything when you play, this way everything you do feel good each time you do it.
I don’t know why some people view Pug as a pejorative term. I’m a pug most of the time that i’m not commanding. Pug is not about being good or not its only about the communication between everybody, usually its only mark the difference between people in a Voip and people that are not in any. Its a disadvantage sure, but pug make most of the Zerg (at least in my Tier, don’t know about higher tier).
Edit : For the reason why people call them pugs in WvW? If not the perfect term its true, but Pugs are either random people joining together to do a dungeon or people joining a guild to fill the last place needed for the dungeon. These two definition fit perfectly for what we call pugs in a WvW settings.
Usually a zerg is either a Commander who tag up and regroup a group of random people in the map for completing objectives or a Commander and his guild for a zerg and random people join them to give more numbers to the zerg. So even if the term Pug it technically is false, it still fit perfectly the situation.

Yep WvW’s pop is cyclic, because most people are cyclic in their gaming. Holidays, vacation, work, school, friends, girl/boyfriend, etc. All that will change how much time you can sit behind your computer can game. After that you could want to do bit of FPS, Racing game, try the new game you just bought or simply sit in front of the tv for a while. After that even if you pick up GW2, maybe you finally want to make that legendary and do more PvE, see the World Boss train while doing your daily so you join it, have some friend/guildmates asking you in 1 or more dungeons run, guild missions, etc. In the end, the so many variable that the number of people in WvW can change drastically day to day but weeks to weeks too.
Make sure you have everything you need before going for an objectives. Nothing worst that a Commander asking on the chat : ‘’Someone have a Ram??’’. You can sit for a while, doing nothing, people lose faith in you and the ennemy have a huge time to get back to defend the objective.
Manage you supply. If you have the blueprint but can’t build it then your situation is not better. Stack and use supply command to see how much you have and plan with the supply you know you have, all extra are bonus. If you can build that third ram good, but don’t count on it if you don’t know the amount of supply of some of the ppl that follow you.
Its optional but can make the world of difference. Have a small group of friend/guildmates with you. I don’t have a big guild, but i usually play with 1 to 3 friends when I command. They can form the core of your ’’zerg’’ making it stronger, they can show the example, do all the chatting that you can (on the map chat for additional details, on the say chat for some notification like supply up, or whispers for more precise details). They are also some additional pair of eyes on the map to spot sword or on the chat when you focus on the battle. They can fill very specific role that you need in combat, but you can also send them on a specifikittentle mission when you have enough good people in your zerg. As i said this is optional, but can really help.
Make use of everybody on the maps. Notice who give good scout reports and ask him something specific if you need it. Ask things to roamer. Often these guys like to win in WvW, they just don’t really like to be in the zerg. Ask roamer in the map to take a supply camp that you need or to take cares of ruins.
The most important for me its the human factor. These are people playing a game, so make them want to join or help you. Make sure they know what you want to do, congratulate them when you win, point out the positive out of a failure and why you failed, never put a fail on them or rage on any chat. Use their name on a map chat to notice what a specific person did good, everybody like to be notice, by the commander even more.
Even Tequalt have window last time i did it. Anyway, i think the World Boss are fine as they are now. They did a lot of work to improve them (like the Maw and the Wurm that use to live only for 0.5 second and dying so fast that you had to be in a radius of 5 meter around the spawning point to actually participate in the kill, and there is plenty of room left for improvement.
But right now, its awesome to follow a World Boss Zerg, since most of the time (at least in CD) we do the event from the start of the pre to the end when its possible.
Ozmaniandevil you do the good thing there. Too many people just end up crying over ascended because they can’t live without it, but can’t or don’t want to craft it. Myself I did 1 set of armor for my Main for the Agony Resistance (and until the next fractal update that will bring the max level to 60-70, this AR is useless to me). I spend most of my time in WvW and I’m not pushing for a second ascended armor for WvW, i prefer to spend my gold on a lot of other things right now and i don’t feel disadvantage at all.
Second point. Its really not that expensive to level up to 500 in crafting. (At least for the 3 weapons profession and Armorsmith). The major costly part in that are the Orichalcum/Ancient Wood and these can be gather. If you have several alts you can leave them in a particular place (Orr or Frostgorges Sound) and check on gw2nodes to see which server have the best nodes placements so you can run all your alts everydays. Now i don’t really need Ori/Wood anymore, but until recently i use to make almost 50 of each everyday for a run of 10-15min max. Of course i had 7 level 80, but several new players in my guild with only 1 or 2 level 80 where able to gather about 30 of each in about 30min per character using this method. The only different is that they run more maps and nodes with less characters (so they need to run between nodes more that I do). But still with 1 character you can do this for about 30min per day for a month and get to 500 in a crafting profession. With 2 level 80 you can cut the time by half.
Fractal is completely different then Dungeon in its structure. Fractal have levels from 1 to 50 (right now, eventually higher level will be unlocked). You can’t start a fractal higher that your own, or of the higher level of anybody in your party.
From level 1-9 its like a normal dungeon.
From level 10-30 you can suffer from Agony which is a kind of condition (but you can’t remove it) that bosses in fractal can give you. You have to learn to dodge it and equip Agony Resistance to survive Agony that you cannot dodge.
From level 31-50 Instability also make thing a bit harder by including special challenge like a Monster Stalking you during all your run, or condition hitting you harder or ennemies exploding after their dearth, etc.
Higher the level = Higher reward, but also higher Higher challenge by adding more enemies with more HP and hitting harder. Strategy will evolve with the levels. Meaning that things that you can do in lower level won’t necessary work in higher level.
This is a quick explanation of Fractals, but a lots of information is available about it. Try to go over website like wiki and other to understand the basic of Fractals before posting more specific questions. There is also a lot of thread about it in the forums.
There is a difference in stats, but for having crafted a full ascended gear you don’t see any difference in game while you play. I saw a difference when i upgraded my trinkets from exotic to ascended, but for the armor nothing. I have maxed crafting to 500 on all 3 weapons profession, and 1 armor professions, but for now i only crafted 1 weapons and 1 set of armor and don’t plan of doing more. Simply because its not really worth it. I’ll probably eventually craft a second ascended armor for my main when i reach 1500 dragonite ore again and its only because i enjoy doing the World Boss Train once in a while so i accumulate Dragonite at a good rate.
Yes beating Tequalt on a overflow is something done on purpose. Its harder to beat it on a normal server because some people are playing, doing Heart, map completion, exploration, guild missions, gathering or simply AFK, taking precious place for the people that want to do Tequalt. TTS Guild is beating Tequalt by finding a empty overflow and taxiing everybody in so that everybody on the map is working on Tequalt.
If the player that joined is the 5th of the group and then quit he didn’t cancel the LFG. THe LFG cancel itself when a 5th person join. So it that case he didn’t do anything intentionally (probably). I did exactly that yesterday. Me and my friend tried to join a Fractal group that had already 3 ppl in it, I got in be he wasn’t fast enough and a 5th person took the place. So i end up having to leave to play with my friend, which cancel the party LFG.
But if the person enter you party and the party is not full, then cancel the LFG and quit. Ya this is trolling and you LFG abuse. But personnally, i’m pretty sure its only the LFG that cancel itself because you where 5 person in the party at some point before the guy quit. In this case, its hard if not impossible to figure out if he had a good reason, or if he was trolling.
I was a bit sad about Dragonite Ore in the beginning two. While I was crafting my ascended weapons i tried to do 1 or 2 world boss when i could by checking online World Boss timer. It was an ok method since most of the time i was doing something with my guild and simply forgot to check and when i check the world boss just finished, but in the end and the course of several month i had enough dragonite ore to craft most of the weapons i wanted.
But then I came across a Commander on the Crystal Desert Server. He regularly form a World Boss Train in which we usually have between 20 and 30 ppl running across Tyria doing World Boss after World in a very fast pace. Not only this yield a huge amount of Dragonite ore (i usually do between 150-250 ore in 2-4 hours), but i found out that it was really fun. I did some event that i never did, or only on a few occasion. I brought my guildmate, making new players discovering the game and playing in most of the map of the game. I’m sure other commander on other server do the same thing, especially on high pop PvE server like CD. By doing this train 4-5 times, i had enough Dragonite ore to craft a complete set of Ascended armor and I still have 500 additional ore in my bank., and i’m not talking about the 10-30 Rares and all the rest of the loots which is not bad at all at the end of the run.
This won’t end this discussion, but people exploring Arah found the body of Zhaitan. It a lot of work apparently to found it (since your not suppose to go there), but they posted picture of it. But even there, other people still saying that he could only be asleep, waiting the right time to wake up.
Since the fractal release I saw my guildmates drop 6 Ascended weapons box. 5 from fractal and 1 from a World Boss. I also saw about 10 weapons box from random people after a World Boss (but they could be troll). Drop rate of weapons box is not really a problem its just fine. Of course don’t expect to get a weapons box if you play once in a while and of course some ppl like me did 30-40 fractal and 100 World boss without any weapons boxes while my friend got one 2 fractal after the fractured release.
The only think about the drop are the stats. Right you can choose your weapons type, but I prefer my beserker exotic over an ascended cleric’s weapons. Anyway, i found interesting that someone like me, that already have all crafting profession to 500 , had my main full ascended, and still have plenty of material to do other weapon/armor for my alts, don’t plan at all to make any ascended stuff for my alt at all while some people that play more casually think about quitting the game because they won’t be able to equip most of their toons with ascended gear.
P.S. : From dungeon, high level fractal to big Zerg vs Zerg in WvW i never saw any difference with or without my ascended armor/weapons. I had way more fun by crafting my Endless Plush Griffon Tonic and creating a Plush Griffon pack with my guildmates.
BTW, this isn’t the list of item they promise. This is the list of stuff they promise but that they didn’t add to the game or only partially. This is the list of promise from Looking Ahead : GW2 in 2013 by Colin Johanson (its not complete, but better that the first list of this thread)
- Living World : Improving World Boss, Update and refine Dungeon and Fractals, creating world event with more permanent impact, expending the number of dynamic events.
(World Boss Check, Refine Dungeon partially check, Fractal check, new world event with impact fail, dynamic events check but weak)
- New Skills and Trait (Half check, they begin to give use some skill like they said, but not trait. If can say that the number of skill is low, but they are gave us a good balance update which is a good think to do before you begin to all more skills and trait)
- Champion rewards (Check)
- Dungeon completion bonus (check)
- New Ascended Crafting Material (check)
- Account MF (Check)
- All crafting to 500 (partially check, Cooking and Jeweler are still at 400, but the big part of the job is done)
- New Legendary Weapons, Items and Precusors crafting (not check, but they announce that this would be postpone to 2014)
- Change of the WvW orb mechanic in Borderland (check)
- New reward systems for sPvP (check? they began to implement it, but its long from finish. But still its there you can now have gold in sPvP)
- Legendary in sPvP (not check, but seriously this most certainly will come with the rest of the Legendary/precursor update so)
- New type of maps in sPvP (not check, really few new maps and no new TYPE of maps)
In here i didn’t put stuff they promise at the beginning of the year and were done in the first half of the year. But on this list of 12 elements, 5 are fully implemented in the game, 4 are partially done and still in progress, while 3 elements not yet visible in the game (2 of them about legendary where officially postpone to 2014). In the end you can like or dislike what they done but they did or are working on everything they said they will give us during the year, except maybe this new type of sPvP maps. But i’m sure what they mean by new type of map (it’s a map for new type of game mode or just different maps for the same game more?)

After my Sunrise, I’m now getting close to my Meteorlogicus.
I have :
- Gift of Mastery
- Storm
- Gift of Fortune
For my gift of Meteorlogicus I only need 30 Charged Lodestone and my 100 Icy Runestone. I’ll probably gonna have it by the beginning of the next week.
One of my guildmate got 2 Weapons boxes and another one got 1 Weapons boxe. All of them between level 30 and 38.
Exactly what other people said. The reason why they created Precision and Critical Chance even if they do the same thing, is because of scaling.
At lower level, each point of precision give you more Critical Chance, while at higher level each point of precision will give you less Critical chance. This way you can roughly have 25-40% crits chance from level 1 to level 80. This also allow lower character too feel powerful with good crits chance without making high level character way too powerful with an easy way to get 100% crits chance.
Remember that most people just can’t go full zerker. You need to have some skill to be able to play full zerker and survive.
- My mesmer is full zerker,
- My guardian is more hybrid (support trait with full zerker gear) and i always have a knight gear to kite and take agro on me when we do guild run for some content.
- My Engineer is Rabid
- My Elementalist is Celestial/Valkirie
and My Warrior is Soldier/Zerker for WvW
So i think you have plenty of stats you can use for your characters.
Thats said. I agree that there is some balancing between DPS and Support. DPS build don’t really need that much support and anyway the best support of the game (boons, reflect, ect) usually only need little trait and no stats at all to work well. This mean that 99% of you build need to concentrate on your dps and give you the minimum you need to stay alive (that depend on your skill as a player). But build that concentrate on support are most of the time a waste of time. I understand your point and a some degree I agree. But the problem is more deeper in our current build possibility and making undodgeable attack is simply a bad design.
A better way to make things a bit more balance DPS/Support wise would be more something like that. Make current support skill really bad except if you trait them. For exemple, Warrior would have kittenty Banner or shout without traiting them. So 1 warrior will trait into banner and will offer Discipline, Strenght and War Banner to the entire group, while other warrior would need to trait into shout to stack might and put vulnerability on bosses. A Guardian will need to use Boons duration to be effective in giving boons to the group or his boons would last really to short to matter. These are just crude idea, but you see my point. Right now support trait are almost useless because the best support are in good utility skill not good trait or good stats.
thefinnster you are able to get 100 AR WITHOUT EXTRACTING anything. So your point will only work for when the game will have more that 79 level of fractal. Now if this is your point : 1) i thinks its a bit soon to freak out about it, 2) By this time i’m sure Anet will modify the system (by dropping high level of AR in higher fractal level) so this problem will never be an issue.
So for me you are pointing at a possible future problem that may or may not happen.
Build bound : Well any profession can experience with several build so I don’t know what to answer here.
Solo capability : Any profession again. For some class its more easy to solo (like warriors) because they use raw stats, while other class need more skill (elementalist) because they rely more on active gameplay and less on stats.
Party capability : Here i’ll give some profession that can support without needing anything in your build to do so. Warrior (offensive boons), Guardian (boons in general and reflect), Mesmer (useful skill and reflect), thief (stealth), elementalist (combos). Note that all profession can support your party but for exemple the warrior can only heal and give defensive boons if you trait it to do so or the Engineer can give crazy vulnerability but you also need to trait it.
WvW Zerg : For that you need to tag fast and personally for that I prefer Guardian Staff or Engineer Grenade. Well anything that don’t need to you to target a specific player and can hit on range. Anyway if you are good you probably gonna be able to tag as fast with most profession that just need more skill and concentration.
WvW Zerg Support : Elementalist combo field/blast, Mesmer veil and portal or Guardian for boons. These are probably some of the best zerg support. At least some of the more popular at the moment.
WvW Roam : Mesmer is usually the class that frustrate me the more in 1vs1, but again if you are good with your profession, anyone can do the job. But usually, roaming build and zerg build are not the same.
PvE kings in the Moment are Guardian, Warrior and Mesmer. But this is usually because good build for these profession are widely advertise on the net and in the community so more people tend to play them with a better build. Some really powerful Elementalist and Thief build exist, but these profession surviability come from an active gameplay so they are hard to master and most pug are just bad with them, its not on the profession but on the player. Ranger sword dps build become more popular too, but the animation of the auto-attack make it really hard to control so most people simply keep dying for a long time before mastering the technique.
Several trick can be use depending on what you prefer and what is your situation. Personally, I switch around these depending on what i wanna do in the game at the moment.
1) Champion Train in Queensdale. Most server have this and its pretty much 24/7 in several of them. Give you good amount of money at level 80 and not so bad at lower level, while allowing you to level up at the same time. This is relax (I usually listen to music at the same time) and it regroup several players that could answer some your question about the game while farming.
2) Frostgorge Sound Champion Train. Similar to QD train, it give you better loots (especially exotics and tier 6), but in term of money its don’t give that much more that QD. You can’t level up low level here. Usually people there are more serious in the farm and no new player will kill a champion before the train, so the train can go faster in this map and allow you to kill more champ per hour. But here not all the server have a good 24/7 train. I usually go at Jade Quarry or Blackgate, but problably other server are good too.
3) Dungeon. Here it allow you to do less repetitive task, but it also depend on your skill and the rest of your party. The faster you can go through the dungeon, the more money you will get in the same amount of time. The first time i did some dungeon with my guild we took more than one hour to finish a path, now most path take 30min to complete with an average party, but if you can have a guild and form a solid party with optimal build you can cut in half the time. CoF path 1/2 and HotW path 1 are fast, CoE give you a lot of good loots and AC give you more gold at the end of each path. So these dungeon should be your priority if you want to do as much gold as you can. But remember that you need to be skill, know the dungeon, have a good build and expect the same from the rest of you party to maximize profit. This is optional since normal dungeon run still give you good amount of gold. Arah is also a great place but if you want to get a good Gold per Hour in this dungeon, you really gonna need to push yourself and your party because this dungeon can be done in less that 30min or in several hours depending on you and your party. Its a high risk high reward dungeon if you want.
P2W mean that if i pay real money my character will be better that your, not that I will be able to pay to get stuff before other people do.
If you put a thousand dollar into the Gem Store you will be able to get Legendary and Ascended gear faster that people that play the game and get their gold by playing. Its normal. But in the end you will never have a edge over people that don’t pay anything on the gem store. On the other side, someone that play the TP and Sell precursor like crazy can have their stuff even faster than someone buying gem on the store and they never had to put any money on the game.
For now, the system work up until level 79 Fractal. When we reach that point, that you can or cannot extract infusion don’t change a freaking thing since to get +15 you will need 32 of these +10 AR for each +15. So you little 1 +10AR that you so preciously wanna extract for free won’t matter at all since its only 1/32 of the full prices of a +15.
When we reach that point of going higher than 79 fractal level, the system will be modify don’t worry. Most probably, AR will drop in +5 or +10 in higher level so you can craft +15 and +20 in a normal time frame (you know not 2 years of playing 24/7).
@ SoLeciTO
You may wanna put a post in the last CDI topic. Chris is exchanging idea with the community on a daily basis and presently the discussion is directly on that. Anet know about this issue and they are thinking about putting in place several others ways to get ascended gear. They don’t really want to make it easier to get, only give more ways to get it. Of course for now its only talk and there is no plan yet. But if you have some suggestion of how we should be able to get this stuff that would fix your way of playing feel free to explain it in the CDI topic.
I can’t confirm that yet, since i didn’t use one yet. But anyway as i pointed it out in my post. You don’t need a extractor since you can easily get to 100 AR which will probably be enough to get you to level 79 in fractal WITHOUT HAVING TO EXTRACT A SINGLE TIME. And only by crafting +10 AR Infusion, which are not that difficult to do.
A Updgrade Extractor on the Gem Store cost 250 Gem so 14 Gold each. I plan on putting a +10 AR on each of my Infused items (2 rings and 1 Back Item). This will give me 70 AR which is enough for level 50 to 59. After that with the Armor, I’ll get 100 Agony Resistance. At this rate, we probably gonna need 85 AR for level 60-69 and 100 AR for level 70-79. This mean that you won’t need any Extractor or buying anything on the gem store for a long time. When we’ll reach that point, then it will be the time we think about this issue, but for now its seems pointless and Anet have all the time they need to think about it.
CoE can easily be done in 1 hours or less. You get about 4 Gold with the rewards at the end of each path. Plus, i usually get 1-4 Charged Core, about 3-6 Tier 6, 2-6 Rares and others stuff for about 7 Gold minimum for all three paths i about 1 hours. I usually get the best drop out of CoE too. Got Entropy (20-30 Gold) and a bunch of other Exotic armor/weapons that sell for 1,5 to 6 Gold each. I think that overall i do about 8-9 GPH in CoE.
In CoF path 1 and 2, i usually do 3-4 Gold and we run both in about 30min so about 6-8 GPH.
In AC we do path 1 and 3 in about 40min and we usually got about kitten Gold. This mean about 7-8 GPH.
Keep in mind that are usual times, but we play with anybody in our guild. Some don’t have optimal build. With a party of 5 good players with optimal build, i say that anybody could do about 10GPH in dungeon. The problem is that once you are done with CoF, CoE and AC your options are limited. Arah can be really good for money, but usually less people know to run this dungeon efficiently that any other dungeon. I dislike HotW (except path 1) so maybe this one can be good too i don’t really know. SE, CM and TA can give good money too, but less that the others.
Is this only for legendary weapons or other ideas such as legendary armor, and trinkets?
For all legendary item you want. But Legendary Armor are tricky. I talked about that with a friend of mine recently. As Chris said it in the last CDI, Armor are the costliest item of the game to design. Meaning that number of Legendary Armor cannot be really high. If they end up adding legendary weapons, that just cannot use the Legendary Weapons system and only design a legendary armor once in a while. Because at the end, a lot of people will end up with the same Armor set. As we continued to talk, he pointed out that the best would be that the armor don’t really have a skin, but instead allow you to use whatever armor skin you like and the legendary armor will add special effect on it. I responded that this would be better if we didn’t had legendary armor but in place either a new item or a legendary trinkets. This item or trinket would give you a special effect that apply on whatever armor you have one. For exemple, one of these legendary item could apply a series of Shining Kanji all over your armor. Another could create growing vines around you, etc. This would allow legendary looks, but also creativity by the community and not only a couple of really kitten Armor that everybody want and that most people will have a year after his release. We already have this kind of people with Legendary Weapons.
I agree this would be nice. On my engineer i use Grenade kit, but not really my weapon. I would prefer to use the Rifle when the CC and Jumpshot, but i use instead two pistol to get two sigils.
Hi, I wanted to start a Topic so people would give ideas for new Legendary. Try to give a bit more explanation that : Ya i want a water rifle or a rainbow greatsword. If you have a picture fantastic, if you don’t have one then explain what effect do you think the legendary that you propose could have.
Here already one post about What eternity should looks : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/What-Eternity-Should-Look-Like/first
For my own idea i started by listing basic Elements or basic concept : Light, Darkness, Water, Fire, Ice, etc. You can link each current Legendary to a core concept, but no legendary go near Earth or Tar (you know Tar Elemental). So i began by imagining a Tar Shield.
It would be simply Shield with Tar all over it. The Tar would drop out of it to let footstep behind you. The Tar could get a bit higher in your hand and arm. The Tar could act in a particular manner on the Shield to create motif or movement. One some skill like the Warrior Shield block you could see splash of Tar when projectile are block by your Shield.
I don’t have particular idea for the Earth element, maybe you could have interesting idea for that or anything else. What your dream Legendary looks like?
Stacking is not really a bad thing. Some people view that as a short cut so you can got strait for the money, money. And these people usually point out that if you skip/stack everything you also skip the fun and just do some boring but fast run to get the reward and get the hell out of there. And these people are not totally wrong.
But of the other side, i love to skip/stack on some occasion. For me and some of my friend we pushing ourselves to beat the dungeon better and better. If some stacking are easy, other are a bit harder and others are really hard and need you to bring your game to another level.
For exemple the Alpha in CoE. For me as a Guardian it was always a easy stack. With my zerker gear and my Vigor on crits i always have a dodge for his AoE. But my Warrior friend, switch weapon so he can have a Warhorn to give vigor to others and use the stamina signet, my thief friend figure out that Sword Pistol allow him to block all his AoE if he use the good timing, and the same things for most of my guildmates. We exchange information and trick that we learn to make each run faster and easier. Its a never ending process that bring a new level of fun to each dungeon.
And other stacking like Lupicus are just strait hard and come more as a challenge that just to go faster with the dungeon.
It wasn’t a pug, but almost.
We were 4 Guildmates and we wanted to run fractal level 38. We check in the guild list and see one of the new guys. Don’t really know him, but he got 5K AP so i ask him to join. He say he’s level 8 in fractal, but he’s a good player so he will join anyway. We can 4 man the fractal so why not teach him the hard way ; ). So we ask him to go in mumble so we can explain how it work and organize more quickly with him. He say that he don’t know mumble and anyway he don’t need it we can explain before going in. At this point we just agree to teach him a little lesson and let him join anyway.
Long story short we basically 4 man the fractal (swamp, snowblind, dredge, May Trin), with no problem at all. Our new friend? He was completely naked by the end of Dredge and ask that we forget him for the level 39.
(edited by Thaddeus.4891)
So basically you are saying. I don’t like full zerker so it would be better if the game make it impossible to play full zerker.?
Nobody force you to play full zerker. Only a fraction of LFG post ask for full zerker. So let people play full zerker if they want and play how you wanna play. I play full zerker on some of my character and other I play differently. Play as you want and let others play as they want.
