After a monumental effort to come 2nd place in tier 5, AG still drops down to tier 6. The good part about it is that Drakkar Lake and Fort Ranik have always given Aurora Glade a tough match-up.

Focus has worked very well in WvW, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a warrior blast all his best moves on me while invulnerable, and after that I just come back at them with virtue of justice activated which blinds them, burns them and gives my character several stacks of might along with another aegis and a heal.
Tome of Wrath quickness and AoE spam can sometimes take out an unsuspecting person standing in a tower.

A huge zerg can sometimes be ineffective if all the server’s players are concentrated in it. This allows even small groups of players to take upgraded towers and keeps by operating under the radar.
It’s best to run with a semi-big zerg and delegate smaller tasks to smaller groups.
This math makes sense, except if you’re only getting one kill every 5 minutes then you’re not playing WvW properly. WvW is full of huge battles, and all you need do is hit everyone in the enemy group once to get kill credit for all of them. You can easily defend for 10 minutes and end up with hundreds of kills.
That said, even a kill every minute, every 10 seconds, is not enough to make it to a million in any fair amount of time. Spending 6 months of nonstop WvW isn’t any less insane than 10 years. There are entire armies that never killed a million people. How is one person supposed to?
The math was about killing dolyaks, and there isn’t a huge supply of them despite needing to kill 4 times the amount. The Ultimate Dominator title is actually achievable in comparison.
I didn’t think the achievements were that insane.
It’s allways one… I bet you write contra in all the posts
You misunderstood me. I should have rather said that I did not know that they were that insane and was actively going for them. Now I might as well drop those attempts since no human being can achieve those titles.
I didn’t think the achievements were that insane. I seriously doubt anyone in the game will ever be able to display a single one of those titles. Was thinking I had made good progress by going for tier 4 for Realm Avenger.
Having those titles would help a lot in WvW because displaying “Ultimate Besieger” for example would indicate that the person knows his stuff about siege weapons and “Ultimate Raider” of course expertises in raiding supply camps.

These same Fort Ranik people were abusing the same spot again just a couple of minutes ago. Something needs to be done about this. I doubt Fort Ranik wish to have these type of exploiters around, otherwise it has been a great match-up all around aside from the few bad apples that have been exposed here.
Finishing is a skill in itself. You have to know what class you’re dealing with and which skills they can pull off while downed.
Yup. It requires game knowledge and the ability to make crucial decisions in a short period of time. That is what I really like about downed state.
However, I don’t think those crucial, knowledgable, and skillful decisions are properly rewarded. A stomped player should be completely removed from the fight in WvW.
Thankfully there are still some people who use alt+f4.
Finishing is a skill in itself. You have to know what class you’re dealing with and which skills they can pull off while downed.
I don’t know if it was intended but during a break-out event a dolyak got inside the tower and started damaging siege. After the tower was taken by a large group buffed by the tank of a champion, we took it back about 15 minutes later so it didn’t really impact the tide of the battle at that particular map in any way.
I’m really not sure if it should be included for the invaders of a borderland though.
Nope, there are simply no players on during Euro prime. This is why i need to play during Euro prime along with my guild. We should be sleeping during these godforsaken hours.
No one to delegate to my friend. So stop telling me to delegate.
The only way for it to work is if we recruit a Euro guild to join our server. But then what? How about all the other servers? Seriously if SOS gets 1 or 2 Euro guild we will dominate WvW #1 forever. Does that even sound reasonable? Does that sound fun? I don’t think so.
You do not necessarily need the whole strength of your guild out there. Just work extra hard to get points during your own prime time. Have some of your guild work the night shift every now and then and focus on not conceding too many points.
It just sounds like you are the sole reason your server is holding up which I doubt is the case. You should take this up to your WvW community instead.
If you guys do jump a whole extra Tier I’m guessing you’ll be the underdog for a whole week, and that’s even with your nightcapping skills. During peak hours AG aren’t as dominating as you seem to think. That said you surely dominated the first 2 days pretty horribly but on the other hand, I can only speak for GH in this, our server seemed to field a really low amount of players during that first weekend, which was kinda surprising to see. Time will tell how fun it’ll be for AG to skip one tier and end up facing more populated servers then your own, atleast on peak hours.
Looing forward to a new match-up this coming weekend.
You assume too much if you think I said we are completely dominating prime time.
As I pointed out it’s the numbers that are winning us this match with such margins, along with the effort of a select few who pull all-nighters.
I know fully well what’s coming our way when we skip an entire tier and it’s going to take a massive effort to stay competitive.
A part of being a good commander is also knowing how to delegate tasks and trust other people’s abilities to handle the situation. Sounds like you’re trying to take all the responsibility to yourself without relying on the other people in that server.
The good thing about having a more organized community is that when you’re taking a week off or otherwise aren’t playing WvW, yet have a significant impact into it, you can just state that to the others and they will take over. Try to work on it instead of changing the game by individual efforts, it’s probably not happening.
What needs to be understood that this whole nightcapping thing has been a somewhat organized campaign on our server’s part to capture as many points as possible in order to prevent falling down too many tiers again.
We fell to tier 7 by a margin of something ridiculous like 100 points last time and are making sure it won’t happen again. It’s definitely overkill to pull nightshifts when the match-up has likely already been won but we have to be thinking of the future also. We had the better of Drakkar’s Lake twice yet they keep getting ranked above us because dominant wins in lower tiers are seen as better than competitive losses in higher tiers.
Obviously we have more numbers than the other servers in this tier so it will be good for everyone involved if we stay out of it. It allows Gunnar’s Hold and Ring of Fire to introduce more of their players to competitive WvW and eventually challenge us again.

A rifle can be a nice back-up plan in the chaos of WvW, to finish off a downed opponent from distance or killshot unsuspecting attackers.
Skilled elementalists.
Thieves are obviously frustrating but I’ve mostly come across not-so-skilled ones so I’ve been able to deal with them somewhat. Just keep swinging and their low health bar will likely come down. The ones who play their cards right will win 99% of one-on-one battles though or atleast escape with their skin intact.
Mesmers can definitely annoy with a million clones among other things but I know most of their tricks by now.
Going one-on-one with a tanky guardian can take ages. I play one myself so have had some epic battles, as far as length.

The thing about Aurora Glade is that no matter which guilds join us or leave us, there’s always going to be the same core group which made it possible to hang in there from the beginning so I’m not too worried.
Our server may fall down a tier or two but these same people are not going to stop playing because of that, because we already fell to the bottom of the rankings and didn’t stop playing.
From the outset it seems that this will be very competitive all the way. RoF came after us hard in our borderlands and captured nearly everything. We eventually regained all of it back though.
Aurora Glade has had a history of starting slow though, not to give excuses. I just hope it won’t come down to numbers.
I don’t know about this thing between Gunnar’s Hold and the KISS guild, but as an Aurora Glade player I hope for an even match-up next week. Last time our server had a numbers edge, this time it promises to be possibly even bigger if a big guild has moved on from the server. Can’t enjoy those situations having been on the receiving end.
I run more of a support built warrior with high toughness and vitality while retaining a decent damage output.
Signet warriors still have room in my dungeon groups, you just have to be able to keep them alive. If the warrior in question doesn’t know how to play dungeons though it’s a tall task. DPS is not faceplanting every other second.
If you’re not the greatest player in the world it’s probably a good idea to invest into toughness/vitality a bit to retain some room for error.
I find it easier to solo Orr with a guardian because I don’t have to deal with the conditions but two warriors can go through a mob in Orr faster than a hot knife through butter.
Guardian greatsword is basically created for pulling a mob. Weapons and attacks that do damage to single opponents aren’t recommended.
I don’t know I have a fairly easy time escaping with a guardian myself if I want to.
Mostly it just comes down to a high amount of vitality and toughness (yet I can still deal a decent amount of damage), along with survival skills such as condition removal, swiftness, invulnerability, the blocking healing skill, warding and wall of reflection.
Once you have to run, the greatsword skill Leap of Faith gives you a nice headstart on your opposition, as long as you don’t target the enemy with it. After hitting switfness and a couple of other skills they have no real chance of catching up.
Today I beat a group 4 on 1 because they simply could not get me down. I enjoy the fights too much to usually run away though but I’ve never had any broken equipment running with a guardian. It’s just too survivable when used correctly.
Sure. I’ve stuck to Aurora Glade all the way from the beginning, seen them go down heavily in the rankings and start getting back up a bit in recent times.
The players in WvW never seem to change so there’s a feeling of a community even though I initially only picked the server because my other guildmates were in it. Now I can’t really even consider changing the server. There’s just so much effort put into WvW by many of the participants.
Hammer immobilize on an unsuspecting opponent, attempt Ring of Warding, if it works use Banish and Mighty Blow, switch to greatsword and do Whirling and Binding Blade. If I can pull them I can usually finish them with auto-attacks or close the gap with Leap of Faith. I usually chill the opponent at some point with the hammer which helps.
Relatively easy stuff to pull off in midst of the usual WvW chaos. Not necessarily in 1 on 1 situations though.
Can’t say I’ve come across this problem any more than with other classes.
The numbers have definitely been in Aurora Glade’s favour in this match-up, to the point where I’d rather not play as I would not have any individual effect on the game other than being one more person in a group which already has plenty enough. I enjoy the underdog situations far more.
Remember that a few weeks back it was our server in the same situation against Gunnar’s Hold and we came back from that. Hopefully the next match-ups will be more even as far as numbers are concerned.
Last week I saw outmanned perk at all times while entering WvW. This week has been far more active but I would still not consider them “huge numbers” by any means.
It’s just that people have been spread out between EB and AG Borderlands, and ignore much of the rest. I was on Whiteside borderlands for a moment and other than me there was only a single other person from Aurora Glade playing the map.
The efforts seem a bit more coordinated and concentrated now instead of people randomly roaming around and attacking whatever they come across.

You should be able to finish off a downed warrior before they get to use Vengeance, after which they will die anyway. If you didn’t then you just took too much time about it.
Guardians can do a bit.
During a “push” a guardian works very well to finish off those who have been downed near the enemy lines, since they can tank a bit even against big numbers. Use your survival skills afterwards and you should be able to get back behind your own group, regenerate all your health and get back in action again.
Reflection obviously works in certain situations such as a large group aimlessly shooting projectiles at a gate or a combo of a line/ring of warding and wall of reflection so you can go to work on rams and the people who are trying to melee a gate without outside interruptions from the people standing at range.
Even the Tome of Wrath despite its short usage can work in a concentrated effort to quickly take siege by granting quickness and spamming the attack skill.

I think the people in Aurora Glade server have been busy playing the new map and Fractals this week, which partly explains the lack of manpower at the moment. I was seeing much higher numbes of players last week.
This is no excuse since I’m sure the other servers have lost a bit of their effectiveness due to the new events but it’s been known that Aurora Glade players have been primarily focused on doing PvE content. I reckon they’ll be back though, hopefully by next week once the usual grinding gets a bit tiring.
Had some epic battles with Gandara defending our own borderlands, no complaints on my part. Haven’t really come across many Abbadon’s to be honest.
The boss fight requires some form of communication or previous experience from each person participating. You have to keep maneuvering it to the right directions, stay alive and keep the debuff on the boss at all times if possible. Once it tries to heal, try to interrupt the healing in some way, although it’s not always possible. You don’t have to run between each switch, just two will be enough.
If the boss goes after the person on the switch, you might want to change the person doing the switching more dynamically and have another person without aggro go up. Everybody has to respond to what the boss is actually doing, not what it should do because it does a lot of things it probably shouldn’t do.
I’m not saying I just ran through it, we did it with 4 and had a lot of trouble because of the seemingly random aggression. But it can be done.

Drakes that put down instant AOE confusion is not something i would call usual…
I’m saying as far as design. No matter what abilities the drake has, it’s still a drake. With no offense to drakes intended but you see them in every map.
The new map has basically drakes, skales, skelks and karka on land, from what I’ve seen. They could add a bit of variety is what I’m saying.
@TheGreatA But isnt a event like this SUPPOSED to be for everyone. Having a elitist attitude like that doesnt make folks stick around and keep the game healthy, it just cheeses folks off and say sorry no more.
There should be rewarding events for everybody but there should also be challenging events.
It’s just that people who invest more into the game and actively look for tougher challenges should be rewarded more. That’s just how it goes. You can’t ignore them either by catering towards more casual players.
Even then, a smart casual player would’ve waited until the event was at its end until joining the action, thus not wasting any of his time, so the rewards were possible to get for everybody who was around at the time of the event. If it had been nice and easy with no reward to speak of, the “hardcore” players would’ve been left with a sour taste in their mouth and probably the casual ones as well.
Obviously there were issues for every type of player, but I think it was a step in the right direction even if the execution of the event wasn’t without its flaws. There was challenge and there was reward. Not getting a rawhide boot for grinding an easy but tedious event. That’s been a real problem so far.
I hope they develop the area, lessen the amount of Karkas considering that the point of the one-time event was to seriously hurt their numbers and add more varieties of enemies. Other than Karkas, there’s just the usual skelks and drakes you can find in every map.
It’s a nice looking area but the content is a bit thin as it is.
There should be more of this. Not every event of course but the special ones, including dragons which are currently unable to deal with great numbers of people. The karkas sent a lot of people packing, and those who stuck to it got a big reward at the end. That’s how it should be.
I enjoyed seeing groups of 50+ people lying dead, especially the first wave of deaths which had me laughing for several minutes as the people there were in a state of confusion. Can’t always rely on the numbers.
Scepter Storm.
My character is a guardian, so I can use it, but I’m more into using a greatsword/hammer combo and the process of making a legendary scepter doesn’t sound too inspiring (different if it had been Colossus, Dusk or Dawn).
Going to wait and see whether the market prices will go back to normal after the recent rush of precursor items and decide what I’m going to do with it.
I was happy to catch a break for once after a run of terrible luck in the game with most things involving chance.
It works at times when the enemy does not expect it but I agree there’s too many ways to escape a supposedly unescapable ring. It’s not that easy to trap the opponent with it anyway, takes a bit of skill or luck.
Usually hammer #3 does the job well enough though.
Portals are awsome, and if u ask for 5 limit ppl passing trough it, i will just ask 5 mesmers doing it, so u will have again 25 ppl porting to u.
This would take actual skill, effort and coordination to pull off though, instead of just asking for everybody to gather up on chat at a single portal. It does not take a large amount of skill and teamwork to set up a portal in comparison to the comparative reward (getting a tower, keep and especially castle nearly instantly), that is the problem.
I go in with a group of 3 or 4 people and we hold a “gentleman’s agreement” with the enemy until one of them decides to break it. Sometimes we can co-exist,, sometimes it’s an all-out battle.
Since you get free siege weapons from completing the puzzle, it’s understandable that many won’t let the enemy pass and give them a possible advantage, even if it means a tedious affair such as “camping”.
The occasional fights with other players make it a very different if sometimes frustrating experience from other jumping puzzles. Sometimes you just have to do group work in this game to get it done.
It’s broken because mesmers at the moment are far more useful and effective as far as utilization goes than any other class in WvW.
You shouldn’t have to go with a mesmer in order to bring a game-changing skill into WvW, every class should have them. Mesmers can deflect projectiles, they can have stealth, they can make clones that teleport inside keeps despite not having a line of sight and most especially teleport 50+ people inside a keep or a castle, bypassing its defenses. They could live with a 5 man cap or a health bar to the portal and receive a buff in other skills due to this “nerf”. It won’t make the class automatically useless.
In the current WvW match-up I’m playing right now I barely see any other class than mesmers. Now this obviously has to do with one server’s tactics (using portals and little else for strategy) but either way the class is still more heavily represented and useful than the rest.
At the very least you should be able to destroy a “zerg” waiting for a “pick-up” with AoE which is currently not possible or otherwise somehow prevent it from happening, instead of being forced to stare at the inevitable. It simply looks ridiculous when used in excess and takes away from the enjoyment of battle, when the other group continues to avoid battle by abusing the system.
(edited by TheGreatA.4192)
There has only been a single one-time event as of yet and it was a cutscene. I doubt you’ll miss much of the action even if you miss the “event”, which is not necessarily even an event.
In this game there are bound to be a few bad apples due to how a commander’s icon is achieved so the “field soldier” can’t just blindly follow orders, he has to make up their mind on whether the commander is worth following or not.
Largely I’ve come across worthy commanders because most people who invest 100 gold, no small sum in this game, into the rank do try to make the best of it. The ones who got it for aesthetic purposes rarely try to lead due to better commanders being around.
The orders and strategies don’t always have to be so intricate, as long as the commander is willing to invest into attack/defense.
I can’t speak for everybody in our guild [LOST] since I’m not a leader but as far as I’m concerned I’ll continue playing WvW almost daily and I’m sure the rest will do their part also. I think we needed to take a couple of losses before truly getting it together. We’ve been doing fine at the moment, just need to keep it up right now.
