Blurred Frenzy is probably one of the mesmer’s best skills, but you aren’t wrong in pointing out that the sword auto DPS is weak.

I’ve lately been wondering how long it would take for 5 optimally geared and traited longbow rangers to kill the evolved destroyer in CoE 3, firing at 1500 range.

All would be using berserker’s gear w/scholar runes, sigil of night + powerful potion of destroyer slaying / Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash Soup.

The following traits would be used:

1 ranger would run spotter/frost spirit and use:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAT8PjAVV1RWs2Bi1j9s/+wPYIPDUVKA-jQyAYfBZyPAJAmyAl8KiGbxtIas6aMlLRUt9uIa1RBERA-e

2 rangers (DEEPZ) would use:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBjYDZEoqqOyi1OQsUsn+0ZwJzzZYIGB-jAyAYfBZyPAlBK5VEN2ibR0Y11YKXioa7dR0qjCIiA-e

2 rangers (vuln stackers) would use:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBjYDZEoqqOyi1OQsesn9/nWBOxeYIGlIA-jAyAYfBZyPAlBK5VEN2ibR0Y11YKXioa7dR0qjCIiA-e
(it would probably be better to replace one of these rangers with a grenadier engineer, to maintain the 1500 range, but the idea is to keep in the spirit of killing the destroyer bearbowranger style, with more panache)

All the rangers would position themselves such as to gain 10% bonus damage from flanking. One ranger would open the fight by dropping a fire field with torch. Then, the team of rangers uses warhorn 5 to blast this fire-field, generating 20 might for the team and 1 minute of fury.* If the pets run the boss and die, then the rangers should keep them leashed and use the F2 roar on the jungle stalker to grant additional might as needed. The rangers then open with their longbow attacks, use quickening zephyr/rampage as one, and cycle their longbow 2/3 skills to ensure the target has 25 vulnerability (or as close to this as possible) at all times.

With the proper rotations and coordination, the rangers should be able to maintain fury/25 might/25 vulnerability until the shield goes back up (I do not expect them to kill it in 1 cycle at 1500 range)

*I do not know if pets will die while crossing the lava. If they don’t that would change some of the trait/sigil allocations (to emphasize pet damage).

What other silly stuff would you like to try out?

I’ll consider that. Do you suggest any other bosses that are ludicrously difficult, if not nearly impossible to beat 1v1 for the God-tier category? And other bosses in general – I am figuring out ways to fill out the prize pool. I may split the challenges into a “first kill” and “solo speed” categories.

I think you should give 20 silver reward for killing Lupicus. He has already been beaten to death.
Is staff from Korga allowed on Simin (assuming it even works)?

I think said staff would count as a bundle item extraneous to the encounter, which is allowed, but if it disables any of her key mechanics it wouldn’t be.

Might wanna add that AI glitching is not allowed. Otherwise you’re gonna lose 50g pretty quickly to the first one to bug Simin and solo her without her stealthing.

Done.

I know he has been beaten to death, but I want to push the community even further and see if he can be killed in under 5, or even 4 minutes by 1 person. But for the reason you mentioned, I was tempted to make him a Tier 3 challenge.

Notes on video submissions
You a must have ready a copy of your video with no speed editing so we can get a definite timestamp.
The start of the fight will be considered to be the point you engage the enemy in direct combat. (You can drop banner/stack buffs and this will not be considered as part of the fight length)
The end of the fight is when the boss dies.

Original Text

Figured I might add something interesting to the mix.

I’d be curious to see what else our community can do, in way of soloing difficult enemies. To that extent, I’m starting a community challenge, wherein the person to record a video of them soloing the following enemies fastest gets a certain amount of prize money. The goal of this is to see if anyone can solo some bosses that have no known completed soloes.

The total prize pool will be 200g, to be split across various challenges.
The challenge will begin on October 1, 2013, 12:00 AM GMT.
Contestants will have 168 hours (1 week) to submit entries
The fastest recorded contestant in each category will be declared the winner in that category.
Contestants may enter multiple categories, but only 1 entry per category. This means you cannot submit multiple videos for 1 fight.

Rules:
1. Any build is acceptable.
2. Any class is acceptable.
3. Any booster is acceptable.
4. Any nourishment is acceptable.
5. You may not use consumable summoned allies, unless otherwise noted.
6. You may not use bundle items extraneous to the boss encounter, unless otherwise noted.
7. You must rely on your own skills to defeat the boss. You cannot have a buddy drop banners for you then AFK the rest of the fight. You cannot have a buddy with empower allies stand in combat next to you, etc. You cannot have a Guardian with AoE Virtue of Resolve stand near you. Things such as this are not acceptable.
8. You may not glitch terrain or stand in an area to fight the boss where it cannot attack you.
9. You may not interfere with the enemy AI in a way that disables their key mechanics.
10. You may not rely on third party programs to assist you in completing the encounter.
11. You may use any profession mechanic available to you insofar as it does not contravene the above rules (stealing items, reflects, blinks to interrupt animations etc are all acceptable).

Additional terms:
1. If you have previously soloed any of these bosses, you may not use a recording of your past attempt as an entry into this contest.
2. Contestants may submit their entries to this thread or to me via private messaging.
3. If you are not capable of recording, it is acceptable to have a friend or 3rd party record for you, as long as none of the contest rules are violated.
4. Upon conclusion of the contest, payout will be given within 72 hours.
5. Challenges that are left unfinished will either remain outstanding beyond the duration of the contest, with the possibility of the reward increasing.

Entry format – Please state:

Account Name
Character name
Class
Challenge category

Example:
TheKillerAngel.3596
Alison Taylor
Warrior
Tier 2 Challenge – Solo Korga the Mighty
[insert youtube link]

Note: boss list is incomplete.

God-tier challenges: 50g each (I do not expect these to be completed). Rules 5 and 6 are exempted for these fights insofar as they are not used to contradict rules 8 and 9.

1. Defeat the Legendary Imbued Shaman at Fractal 48.
Whichever team can duo this at level 48 will be rewarded 100g to be split among 2 players.

Tier 1 challenges (20g each)

1. Solo the Champion Destroyer Crab in CoE P3. – COMPLETED
2. Solo Mossman in Fractal 30 – COMPLETED

Tier 2 challenges (10g each)

Almost nobody does Fire Shaman

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

Why? I think it has to do with several reasons:

1. The closest waypoint is a long way off from the actual event. This, I think is the biggest factor.

2. The fight itself is long and has 3 phases. Combined with fact 1, people just cant be bothered to put up with the fight.

Do you think this is a problem?

TheKillerAngel.3596

Have you ever played a game like Lineage 2 with big open world bosses (Antharas, Baium, Lilith)? Those required alliances of guilds to take down, aka hundreds of organized players. Tequatl is like these bosses. He’s not content designed to be facerolled.

Do you honestly think the people who have killed him before are going through the trouble to forge alliances, coordinate dozens of players from various guilds, to take on a 15min bossfight that might very well still fail.

Just for a regular boss chest, with a very small chance of a reskinned ascended weapon? Yeah, im thinking, nope.
And im willing to bet those big world bosses from LA2 did infact drop some pretty big-deal items. Am i wrong?

Antharas/Baium etc dropped boss-specific jewelry items which were considered among the best items in the game. I absolutely support increasing the rewards for Tequatl INSTEAD of nerfing him, but I do think the OP’s suggested rewards are excessive.

They really just want the mob nerfed so its easy-mode. Something is gonna give and I fear they are just going to nerf it.

Nobody is going to bother forming a raid for a 0.005% chance of good loot.

They will kill it once for achievement, then never do it again.

I think Ascended weapon chests should be redesigned so its drops a weapon you select the stats of rather than a stat set you choose the weapon for.

As I said in my OP, I don’t care what people do to complete a speed run. Just don’t hack or skip any of the primary objectives. This is how I think most people feel after making this thread.

This is basically my position. My tolerance for “exploits” is much looser in PvE games because you’re not really competing against anyone (compared to a competitive FPS).

Concerning fiery rush: it isn’t an exploit. In fact, I’d go as far as saying the skill was deliberately designed this way. There are enemies that use charge/rush type skills that deal an obscene amount of damage and rapidly tick (see: Champion Risen Megalodon and Risen Abominations). They use the exact same functionality as untargeted FGS/Bear Form rush. If untargeted FGS is an exploit, then these monster skills need to be changed so that they have to select a “target” as opposed to hitting a set direction.

Theory: Ecto prices and Tequatl Rising

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

Simply put: I believe the Tequatl Rising content will be used to re-equilibrate the ecto market at 18-22 silver.

It has already been known that the boss overhaul will substantially increase both the difficulty – and the rewards – of the current crop of world bosses. I believe that this will be used as a subtext for bringing the prices of ectoplasms back down to the “normal” range of 18-22s that has been standard for most of 2013. the past several months. This is of course speculative, but I am thinking that the new boss chests will be dropping rares and exotics at an increased rate, with the possibility of other materials.

I’m sorry, I don’t see how the new content is going to bring ecto prices down to “normal.” The prices are determined by supply and demand – not "prices were about 20s for the last few months so I guess that is now “normal” forever and ever." There is more gold in the system and there is more demand for ecto’s – so I potentially don’t see ecto’s ever going below 20s again unless we have an extreme lull in content. Will they decline? Maybe, but not by a lot…or they could rise even more – especially considering that the Ascended Armor patch is sometime this calendar year, which means it is ~ 3 months or less away. In regards to this content patch, making world bosses “harder” might actually have the opposite effect – people might do them LESS often because of the increase in time commitment vs reward (remember, at least as far as we know, Teq is the only boss outside Karka Queen that is getting revamped rewards) which may actually shrink the ecto supply.

Food for thought.

ArenaNet’s past changes to events and resources shows that there is a certain ideal range for the prices of some commodities and their supply/demand ratios.

I dont think the price will drop that much. Most people still dont have their 3 weapon professions maxed to 500, so there still is a high demand in ecto. With ascended armor and crafted pre cursors on the horizon in 2013, that demand wont be much lower than supply.

It might not drop that much but I think it will start to shift the market closer to being 4:5 supply vs. demand as opposed to 1:2 supply vs demand.

So... Precursor prices

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: TheKillerAngel.3596

TheKillerAngel.3596

It’s easy why they have gone up. Only half of it has to do with inflation.

Because gold has gotten a lot cheaper (a little over 20 USD for 100 gold at 3rd party sites) buying finished legendaries is more accessible. Thus, the legendary-selling market is hotter and there is more competition for precursors among people who sell finished legendaries.

You are overestimating the # of people who buy gold (legit or unlegit)

I think you are underestimating it, but there is a degree of speculation to this of course.

Replies are in bold.

1: Add foes to dungeons that move fast/hit hard. They would need to be crippled/chilled/immobilized to be kept from hammering the group

So the zerker group will just chain blinds and/or knockdowns and then DPS down.

A smartly designed enemy would have the same tools you have. Stunbreakers, stuns, stability, boon, and condition removal.

2: Make all foes have some healing capabilities. Be it some health % per second, or an activated heal, so poison is wanted or interrupts to stop activated heals

Dredge have protection. Some bosses have regeneration. Zerker group will just burst until they drop, and if possible apply boon removal.

Most bosses and trash don’t have blocks or evades or any intelligent movement AI. If you added these (enemies dodging/blocking your 100b/fiery rush or repositioning out of your attacks) it could add some interesting dynamics.

3: Defiant kills interrupt CC builds, even though you can still “interrupt” the boss. I say remove defiant on bosses (keep 90% blind immunity) and change it so when a boss is hit by CC they gain like 10-15 seconds of Stability

Null field, phantasmal disenchanter, and then spiky fruit, every encounter trivialised.

Several solutions. The simplest would be to just disable spiky fruit. Another is to have bosses with counters to interrupts (e.g. adds that spawn when you interrupt, stunbreakers, etc). You can also have bosses/encounters with special abilities (e.g. boons cannot be removed until players do x or y).

4: Give some foes really high toughness, to make condition builds more wanted. Add high Vitality foes if needed for damage builds

Because over 1 million HP on bosses isn’t high vitality? Groups do things like Bloomhunger at level 80 and he still dies … gradually.

I think he means having some bosses with high armor rating (but not necessarily higher HP) such that attacking them with power-based builds will be less effective than condition based builds. Better yet, certain bosses should have unique resistances/vulnerabilities to certain types of attacks.

Well there is… and there isn’t.

Even with a team in all berserker’s gear, there ARE support traits and skills that are used, and control skills can be handy except on bosses (as Defiant makes them largely immune).

What we are seeing here isn’t particularly unusual for an MMO. Classes will have preferred stats on gear; it’s pretty much inevitable. The problem is that due to the nature of this game, pretty much every class prefers the same stats.

It has to do with armor stats having little to no effect on utility/weapon skills, which is where most of the support comes from. Also, bosses don’t have very high resistance to physical damage (in fact I don’t think they have any resistances as per GW1).

Event tokens

Most events in the open world go untouched.

I propose that each event should award some type of medal when completed. These medals can be used to buy rare materials, ascended weapons and armor, and other items.

The objective is to encourage players to complete a wide variety of events throughout the world. The prevent players from cycling the same events over and over, each unique event gives out medals on a daily rotation. The number of medals awarded by each event scales depending on the popularity of the event. Popular and easy events give 1 medal. Unpopular events that rarely succeed or finish give up to 5 medals.

Rewards are character-based. Completing the same event within 1 minutes on the same character, however, will not award medals.

Just get rid or the plethora of account bound junk. Some want it, some don’t, let the market take care of the problem.

Agreed. If it were up to me nothing in this game would be soul/account bound.

The personal story itself is easily soloable, but the story mode dungeons (which is the impression I got from seeing the words “story mode”) are not designed to be soloed.

I’ve got a better idea: transplant some sPvP/WvW builds into PvE. Make a boss that’s a Mace/Shield +GS warrior, a boss that’s a Dagger/Pistol thief, etc. Reduce their HP but give them meaningful heal skills and such. I think the biggest challenge would be programming them to fight in a convincing way.

Again, I think the main idea is being derailed.

I don’t see this as making bosses easy to the point where you don’t have to dodge them, or making bosses hit like a limp noodle. TL;DR: Dungeon designers should take a page from the SPVP guys: look at what skills and tactics are punishing to players running various types of builds and design bosses that implement these tactics.

This is about ultimately adding more various content that requires strategies and techniques that depart from the current dungeon meta, which consists of many bosses solely relying on highly damaging attacks that can either be evaded or reflected. Think of it this way:

- There are no bosses that rely on conditions as a primary source of damage
- There are few to no bosses that generate enough conditions on a team to require condition removal more than 1 null field/shout cycle.
- There are no bosses that have high enough defense such that killing them with damaging conditions is preferable to direct damage
- There are few bosses that heal regularly
- There are few bosses that rely on stealth (only 2 off the top of my head, Mossman and Simin)
- There are few bosses that use boons
- There are few to no bosses that strip/corrupt boons from players (this is huge, most good teams can stack 25 might/fury with impunity)
- There are few bosses that summon minions that are actually dangerous
- There are few (I’d say no) bosses that put enough pressure on the team to require some form of sustained healing
- As far as I can tell, bosses do not have any intelligence to who they target – they are most likely to hit whoever is doing the highest DPS.
- Bosses don’t have any intelligence in their choices of attacks – they will continue to use projectile-heavy attacks against a team with lots of reflects.
- There are no bosses that attempt to reposition themselves/tactically use terrain once you get into melee range.

I don’t see why more hardcore players (I’d consider myself one), who like challenges, wouldn’t want more diversity in content. I don’t think it’s wrong to say that there are a lot of bosses that rely on high-damage, low frequency attacks as a shortcut to make them challenging, rather than designing the bosses and encounters in a more sophisticated manner. Once you get good at Subject Alpha/Lupi (which for most people, can take a while) whatever challenge they pose starts to become repetitive. There is so much more to making bosses difficult than simply having them take out 75% or more of your health in one attack (or giving them 9999999999999 HP). It’s definitely possible to have a boss do all the things above and have big attacks, but I really want to know if the developers can get more creative than relying so much on “big damage” as the primary contributor to difficulty.

In this regard, I actually think the Simin fight is one of the much more interesting ones; she doesn’t hit particularly hard but teams that coordinate their burst damage are much better off than ones that mash keys.

As some players have pointed out, adding something this in depth wouldn’t sit well with a lot of casual players, which is why I think there need to be elite dungeon modes that are specifically advertised as being challenging,

Are you suggesting that it is impossible to create content that is equally or more difficult without being wholly reliant on dodges?

I have seen three used fairly commonly:

30/0/0/10/30

30/30/0/10/0

Which ones do you prefer and why? Is there one you use more frequently than others?

90% of people who posted here think that zerker means rolling a warrior and spam 100b and mobs die. In other worlds, they are completely clueless.

Make encounters requiring even 1 utility skill and most of players will come to forums and cry to anet “I want to play how I want”. TAFU/SNAFU comes to my mind.

Coordination? Recall old simin? Literally hundreds of complains how it promotes zerkers while in reality it needed a basic coordination. You make encounters requiring more coordination then pugs will complain you need voice communication.

Most of the stuff anet designed like control weapons were made specifically for pvp, otherwise mobs wouldn’t have 150,000 hp.

Toughness/vitality? Liadri would be the best example for average player but have you ever tried high level fractals? Anet doesn’t do harder content by introducing more mechanics, they do it by increasing damage of the mobs. Defensive statistics are basically for pvp where they do matter.

Priority should be to make dungeons/fractals more rewarding than brainless, mindnumbing spamming in open world.

I agree with you that dungeons and fractals need to be made more rewarding, and that this is easier to fix than the design of a lot of bosses. For one, getting rid of the account-wide token requirement/increasing the tokens given, and increasing the gold per run at the end is a start.

The design of the current crop of dungeons: I think outside a few cases, they should mostly be left as-is. But I do think that new, permanent content should distinguish between normal and elite modes. Normal modes should give standard rewards and “be puggable,” while elite modes should give much higher rewards and be “un-puggable.” In general, I would like to see bosses move away from an over-reliance on 1-hit kill type attacks. This game sorely lacks bosses that kill players with pressure, damage over time, and things other than dodgeable 1 hit kill attacks.
