What is a Trinity? [Suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

This is basically what the trinity boils down to: it allows players to have more challenging fights as you need to have players work together in timing certain skills to keep the rest of the party alive or at optimal performance.

Nah. That depends on how devs design stuff. It is possible to create hard and interesting fights with gw2 roles.

Forcing damage is bad design, forcing mob unpredictability / non telegraph is bad design.

No.

By that logic, PvP is bad design. Yet we constantly hear from people, including, I believe, you, that PvP/WvW is better designed, better balanced and plays better than PvE – and I agree, it is and it does.

Stop mixing up pvp and pve. They are completely different. Thank you.

Forced damage isn’t inherently bad design (you will not be able to argue that it is rationally, I predict, because it’s not a rational case you’re making – prove me wrong if you like) – I will agree that mindlessly forcing lots of damage is crummy – but forcing you to choose when to take damage and inevitably taking some is NOT bad design when you have a heal and so on built into every character.

In trinity mmo with tanks and healers it is completely normal. In gw2, however, devs give you all necessary tools to completely evade all damage from the boss if you are skilled enough. Forcing unavoidable damage ignores combat system and makes no sense.

Non-telegraph is bad design if the damage is significant and intended to be dodged, but if it’s chip-away, then, no, you’re wrong – PvP/WvW is absolutely full of damage which has little-to-know telegraph, it’s just that it’s not high-damage stuff.

You are mixing up dungeons and pvp/wvw again. Stop it please.

I have seen plenty of people on reddit complain about the lack of support.

I think people need to step out of the box and see that boons is not the only way to support allies.
Chill is a great way to support your group, since it makes the enemy much easier to deal with.

maybe in engaging varied encounters that require strategy… unfortunately there aren’t any of those in GW2 right now. Hopefully they introduce some in HoT. There is no need to chill an enemy when you have 100% block and vigor uptime and 25 stacks of might.

Necro’s offer awesome support in the form of high weakness and chill uptime… unfortunately the game does not need that kind of support in its current iteration. It seems easier to give one class useful support instead of changing the way the entire game works, thus the pleas for “standard” group support.

Um lets be real here guys. Running is the meta, not DPS. What we need to do is nerf mobility so no one can speed run anymore! PS. its called speed run for a reason, otherwise it be speed killing dungeons or speed killing map completion.

The goal is to create team variety with the armor sets; not make the game slower.

But You know there is a cool way of tanking? You cripple the boss, get swiftness and just run circles around him. Another reason to nerf mobility!

Lol thats a thing in EVE online. Called speed tanking. You fly around so fast that enemy can’t hit you.

WoW has existed for more than 10 years and it has always had tanks, healers and nukers in every dungeon, even the ones that are old.

Because it’s combat is based on tanks, healers and nukers.

LoL/DoTa, just to mention an example that isn’t a MMORPG, have been going for a long time as well, and it is unthinkable to have a full nuker party. Suggesting so would get you ridiculed.

Unlikely.

Considering how easy it took out the whole Pact Airship-fleet it is unlikely that air-support would be possible. The fact that it can also sprout vines more or less everywhere would make a land-assault rather dangerous as well.

That’s why we should not allow talking cabbages to command our military.

I don’t really care about the difficulty of dungeons at this point of the game because as every one has said, the content is 3years old therefore its easy but I honestly feel without icebow in FOTM, that 3year old content is still challenging.

Even if you nerf all damage in this game for 9000% 3 years old content will still be faceroll. Boring and slow faceroll. We need new mechanics not braindead damage nerf. And only way to implement this new mechanics is to make new dungeons.

Yes. Dungeons are completed too fast on average right now. Most enemies are made trivial and negligible by certain builds and setups.

You might have not noticed this but… they are 2+ kittening years old. People did them million times and learned every little thing about them. This is how content in mmo games works.

People is being rewarded without actually doing enough to deserve it.

In context (that is important, you know), calling someone out for not “removing training wheels” by running a build with Toughness (or Survivability in general) is kind of a crappy thing to do. It comes down to a group of players insisting that every player play like they play and bow to the Zerker dungeon Meta, and the comment that they “need to learn the combat system” is hilarious given that the dungeon strategy du jour involves exploiting level design to stand in a corner and dps race the mobs. That is even less active and requires less skill than a WoW 5-man.

You must be really heavy to carry if that’s what you do.

Carrying would imply a lack of skill where it’s required. No skill is required to stack in the corner and dps race the mobs. It’s just a loot farm and contains no rewarding gameplay.

Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

Well I did say “each of the remaining build possibilities” so that would mean (hypothetically) instead of having 5 good builds out of 1000 with the current system, I would expect the new system to provide perhaps 20-30 builds max, but every single one of the 20-30 builds would be useful or just as good as the 5 or so builds from the old system (the old system being the current system).

Too bad we can already see this won’t be the case, right?

Yeah surely some meta builds will emerge but the point is that all other build shouldnt fall way behind like now, and that’s a good thing

I don’t think you looked too closely at the traits of all the classes in what was revealed of the new system.

I can’t speak for all classes since I main only engi and elem and I’ve looked deeply only for those. I see at least 4-5 equally good builds each that can all be meta at the same time, instead of 1-2 we have now. If that’d not diversity…

Anyway until the system is out we cant really say

It kinda backwards for ele atm. You have 4-5 good builds and if anet will not rethink some of their decisions we will end up with 1-2 good builds.

Dungeons need love.

1. A boss that is immune to direct damage but take twice the condi damage. (perhaps in combination with a boss that is immune to condis).

That what we will end up with i think.

2. Some rooms applying so many conditions and strips so many boons that a designated support class is needed to keep the party alive. (This’d kill necros though…)

I am pretty sure that current guardian meta build can do that.

3. A boss that has an AoE hard hitting move (unavoidable) that would down any player without Vitality or Toughness in 1 move.

Forced tanking/healing check in mmo with no trinity? And it kinda ignores the basics of gw2 combat system.

4. A boss that has hard hitting moves for immobile players? (much like some vine attacks in SW, but more potent)

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_Imbued_Shaman this guy has this sort of attacks.
By the way this little vines that spawn under you in sw and deal damage can be avoided by standing in melee range of a thrasher that spawns them.

5. A boss that drains Endurance, forcing players to take a hit from time to time.

Could be interesting. Would force guardians to learn how to use aegis.

6. A boss that takes damage from healing, a zombie of some kind.

No comments lol.

Blimey how many rares are you all salvaging for that to be a problem?? One of you please tell the Loot Fairy I want to be her BFF too lol

I was thinking the same thing.

As I recall, the warning was implemented at player request. Players were accidentally salvaging items that they did not intend to salvage, just as back in the day (GW) you could sell valuable items with a single click. So the devs added a confirmation process to ensure that you do exactly what you intend to do.

I don’t recall seeing a warning for green items, but I don’t mind a bit getting the message in relation to golds. But then, I’m not massively wealthy, either.

After running in silverwastes for an hour or so i end up with 20 rares on average. That’s 80 clicks to salvage everything A little option in inventory options window could reduce that to 22 clicks :P

Even an employed game designer isnt necessarily better at designing content than your average invested intelligent player.

Even a professional surgeon isn’t necessarily better at performing surgery than your average invested intelligent patient.

Not really the same thing.

Game designer is usually not a job, but a position. People go to school and start in animation, graphic design, game art & design, programing, etc.

To be a surgeon you need to know the human body and how to fix it. As a game designer you need to use your imagination to create interesting design. School can give you tools and experience will help you to learn from past mistake. But overall, anyone can come up with good game design idea.

Everybody want to be a game designer. But usually, game designer are programmer, animator, artist, graphic designer, etc that receive a game design role at their job. Everybody can come up with idea, that’s not enough, you need to apply these idea into a video game.

The fact that this has to be explained to a “game designer” is kind of funny.

Is HoT Destroying Build Diversity?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

It is not a question of diversity, but rather a problem of complexity of character development. Now core specializations looks like a talents from MOBA games. Unfortunately, the tendency to oversimplify the system of character development has become usual for modern MMOrpgs.
P.s. sorry for my english

Oversimplified trait system will help gw2 a bit. There will be a lot less “omg why you are doing this to yourself T_T” builds. And a lot less “i want to be useless” anti-meta builds too.
