But they are. Like it or not but they are a prestige item since the release of the game.
Oh, since the beginning of the game? No, those have never been prestige items. Expensive, yeah, prestigious, lol no.
Gw2 FAQ:
What’s so special about Legendary weapons?
Cosmetics, prestige, and convenience. Legendary weapons are very expensive and time-consuming to craft, and typically have much more grandiose visuals than other skins. Their stats are identical to ascended weapons, but unlike ascended or lesser gear, players may change the attribute bonuses of their legendary weapon at any time while out of combat.
(edited by TheRandomGuy.7246)
They shouldn’t be. They’re costume skins, not trophies.
But they are. Like it or not but they are a prestige item since the release of the game.
You said, and I quote “Except that since you want raid rewards in easy mode, you want to take away the prestige out of it.”
Rewards have nothing to do with prestige. Which are you talking about? Pick one and be consistent.
Legendary gear = prestige items according to anet.
Question! Who gets a trophy in your analogy?
Nobody, it’s a fun-run, the point is to enjoy yourself.
Too bad that we are discussing rewards in a multiplayer game and not charity or fun events.
(edited by TheRandomGuy.7246)
Nope. Guy approaches the finishline in a marathon, another guy zips past on a bike, nobody says “wow, that second guy was so much faster”.
Question! Who gets a trophy in your analogy?
Aww that’s not irony, as was 100% technically correct about what loot dropped, because I looked it up.
One time use achievement chest is not a loot or a drop though. Looks like you are still wrong.
here we are, 19 pages later, and over 20 pages on another topic
Original topic – Raid difficulty settings.
18 pages later – Raid difficulty settings + raid reward allocation.
19th page – You arguing with a dev comment about fractal rewards.
(edited by TheRandomGuy.7246)
Easy mode is a training wheel and a way to experience the narrative and character interaction without much stress. Easy mode is not an alternative way to get normal mode achievements. Fractals work that way too. Even season 2 and season 3 work that way.
I think this concept is flawed for several reasons:
Yet developers around the world use this concept to make their games.
Actually, Fractals did not work this way. If you made some 20+ fractals to get the stuff needed to craft the ascended backpiece, you could fill the rest of what you neded up with lvl1 fractals if you really wanted to. 20+ was a level that the largest majority of people could do with minimal, not hours long preparation. 40+ fractals were completely optional and mainly done for ascended hests and the heck of it.
Yeah you can get ascended pretty easy in fractals, but to get fractal legendary you need to do the “hard mode”.
Don’t try to break an analogy, it’s too “easy mode” to take any pride in. Analogies are inherently fragile things, that inevitably break when pushed in the wrong direction, it’s like punching a baby and dancing over it. Just take the analogy as it was intended or not at all.
You analogy was not complete. Adding important details to it is not “pushing it in the wrong direction”.
Yes, exactly. The people who enjoy the current raid are already enjoying it, easy mode is intended to open it up to those who are not currently enjoying it. . . I thought that was obvious.
Easy mode is a training wheel and a way to experience the narrative and character interaction without much stress. Easy mode is not an alternative way to get normal mode achievements. Fractals work that way too. Even season 2 and season 3 work that way.
Another good example would be rock climbing. Imagine a half-dome mountain, like El Capitan. One side is a shear cliff, the other a smooth dome. One person can choose to climb the shear cliff, the straightest path, and for someone with the strength to pull it off, the fastest. Another could choose to climb the dome side, zig-zagging up the mountain, much less strenuous, but still quite a workout, and they have to cover more ground to do it so it takes longer. Both people will reach the top and get the “reward” of the view, but everyone knows that the one that climbed the shear cliff accomplished something more difficult. Being able to climb the other side does not take anything away from his accomplishment, and it’s still a popular climbing spot.
“View” in our case is a screenshot of a gold statue that spawns after boss is defeated. That guy who went straightest path also got a trophy for climbing the hard way when the “dome side” guy got a pat on a back and a view he wanted to get.
Sorry, I get you want your little bits of entitlement, but as you said, a Precursors can drop from a Moa, as such, there is nothing currently in the game that justifies the total lock out you all want.
And most assuredly not in fractals.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_Backpack:_Ad_Infinitum
“Totally locked out” unless you do level 100 fractal in under 25 minutes.
So there are 3 mounts in the game already, which you almost never see anyone using.
Exactly. They already tested “cosmetic mounts” in the past and people did not care about them.
How many people are actually flat out against easy mode or difficulty settings in general? Looks like you are confusing people who are against your “ohoni mode” and people who are against “easy mode”.
It was still the longest and most tedious of all fractals, and consequently least liked.
Molten Furnace Fractal would like to disagree.
…you’re joking, right?
Cliffside – pre HoT record time is 8m 35s, time depends on your damage and ability to move around fast, no timegates.
Molten Furnace – pre HoT record time is 10m 43s, ~9 minutes timegate.

Could be framerate. Low framerate can sometimes cause headaches in action games.
The current break bar isn’t bad it just requires less coordination. There was more skill to timing ice bow 5 and coordinating with your party to get the stacks down quickly without accidentally going over 5 stacks and missing ice bow
This plus all cc skills lost their identity. It went from coordinating soft+hard cc to maximize damage and control to just “lol spam cc for free 50% damage boost”.
Raid portal high up in the air and a waypoint inside the aerodrome. Sounds like a raid lobby.
Isnt it a lil too big for a shortbow?
Agreed, whats the longbow gonna look like?
If they will make longbow look like a short bow I will probably craft both of them and buy some gems.
Numbers? Oh ok, I have over 6 million copies of this game sold, before it had raids in it, and the fact that WoW Lost 4 Million Subscribers during the time when GW2 launched.
That means, people, by the millions would gladly leave a game with Raids, to play a game without them.
Do you have anything even remotely close to that?
August 28, 2012 to August 28, 2013 – ~2.5mn copies sold
January 24, 2015 – HoT announcement. It will contain raids and “Challenging challenges”
~Late 2013 to ~March 11, 2015 – 2.1mn copies sold
March 11, 2015 – “Guild Wars 2 has so far sold 4.6mn copies since its debut in August 2012, with around 2.5mn copies sold in its first year of release.” – KDB Daewoo Securities Games Company Update
June 16, 2015 – HoT pre-purchase start.
August 21, 2015 – “ArenaNet has revealed Guild Wars 2 has sold more than 5 million copies to-date.”
October 23, 2015 – “Guild Wars 2 celebrates 7 million accounts as heart of thorns arrives”
I can throw numbers around too. Mine can be checked with the news articles and fancy pdfs though.
I miss over the top silly legendary weapons.
- On Alienating a demographic: how about the people who like hard instanced content? Aren’t they a demographic?
Problem is, GW2 was never about hard instanced content.
Instanced dungeons were very hard at release. Instanced fractals were hard. Season 2 had hard instances.
The point is, people can only currently sell raids because there is a market for it.
This is how market works?
There is only a market for it because raids are harder than the accepted standard for this game. If raids were not harder than the accepted standard for the game (either the only raid or an easier version of the raid), then there would be no market for selling raid slots.
Interesting. Do you have a link? I could not find any official difficulty standard list.
People who sell raid slots are exploiting a situation that does not have to exist, and are actively fighting to prevent that imbalance from being solved.
Exploiting what? Supply and demand? Why supply and demand should not exist? Who are they fighting? Arena net is against raid selling? What is going on?
That is wrong, end of story.
What is wrong? Selling goods and services when there is a demand?
From their AMA on reddit.
The same AMA that said they have stable development situation and don’t need to reshuffle devs to put out fires anymore, a week before they dissolved legendary team?
(it was also the same AMA where MO did everything he could to persuade players that Raids are a completely inconsequential side project they use only a tiny fraction of resources on, which suggested he does not consider them that a shining success. If he did, he’d not have been downplaying their role)
“Dev data says that raids are successful and target audience loves them. But I dislike them! They are lying!”
Here is the red post I remember. They were talking about general automated playing where you set the char up in some way and leave the game running, and it was 3 years ago.
Has there ever been an official response on what is considered botting
She probably meant third party software because in this case game automates itself without any external help thanks to the way classes are designed. Which basically means that afking on a class with AI pets or passive traits that can kill mobs(ranger, ele, guardian, necro, engi) is considered a breach of the User Agreement.
I’m gonna toss my coin in saying it won’t.
It already did.
“Raid in MMOs are high-end content designed for the more hardcore player. However, from an analytics standpoint, the participation is higher than other games we’ve seen. This is likely due to the nature of our progression system in GW2.”
From their AMA on reddit.
Calling Bogus, link it.
This is not botting. Just a “clever use of game mechanics”.

So then there is no problem in getting armor in a easier mode you still got your titles to show you did it the hard way.
Easy mode already exists. It is called “don’t go for the record time / no title achievements”.
And the same prestige could be achieved with titles instead not locking away gear with new functionality.
Already done. To get titles you need to do somewhat hard achievements as a group. To get armor you need to poke boss to death and complete some open world events.
Raid infusion is also disabled in spvp.
Player versus Environment (usually abbreviated as PvE) refers to the combat and activities in the game which are not focused on competing against other players to succeed. PvE content is designed to be completed cooperatively with other players or as a solo player, so if combat is involved it is against computer controlled enemies.
World versus World (also known as WvW) is a Player versus Player game mode where players from three different servers, or worlds, battle in the Mists. It features open-world combat on five large maps with up to several hundreds of players per map
Structured PvP is a Player versus Player mode which allows competition on an even footing.
In raids you play in a group and fight computer controlled bosses. Raids = PvE.
Sure, it wouldn’t take hours, like Ohoni claims, but saying that it would take many months is an even more ridiculous claim.
Redesigning bosses, rebalancing all rewards and drop rates, QA and playtests, relinking achievements and then maintaining 3 additional instances. It took more than 2 months to adjust a drop rate of trash items from fractal inscriptions.
- Fixed forum bug.
What have you found “abusive” from raiders? I lead pug groups every week. I have not encountered any abusive behavior.
Something like “Can you change your class?” or “Don’t use x trait here because Y is a lot better.” or even “We are looking for a warrior but you entered as a ranger. Change class or leave.” is extremely offensive in gw2.
A toggle option for April 1st that does not work.
Daily Shiverpeaks Vista Viewer – less than a minute.
Daily PvP Player Kills – less than a minute in a rankfarm.
Daily Maguuma Wastes Miner/Daily WvW Caravan Disruptor – 3 minutes max.
Nothing. Still waiting.
Hardest dungeon boss?
Hardest fractal boss?
Hardest raid boss?Hardest PvE content overall?
Aetherblade Foreman Spur.
Pre HoT Mossman.
Sloth.
Raids.
Actually it was a pre-purchase, not a pre-order, which is different.
Both terms were misused so much by the publishers that now they are basically the same thing.
Depends if it will be a real expansion or another season pass.
my question is if it is so easy what the hack is the dungeon and fractal team doing for the past 3 years.
Dungeon team was disbanded shortly after release 3 years ago and fractal team was created after HoT launch.
Wildstar had a massive attunement process which knocked people back and kept them out of raids, GW2 has a free and open raid that anyone can enter immediately.
The comparison is silly.
This is wrong though. ANYONE cannot immediately join a raid. You should know that.
Yeah. You need HoT to join the raid.
Decrease the man power behind raids.
From 5 to 4?
what all the others devs working on
“We recently started PvP season two and we’re about to launch the next raid wing. After that we’re packaging up and preparing our next big quarterly update for April. The April update is about reducing grind, clearing away some tedium, getting quickly to the fun, and improving rewards.”
Did not had any problems with it until I decided to turn off the action camera. Skull pops up way too high if you have “Vertical camera position” set to low.
Slothasor reminds me a lot of Vale Guardian.
I cannot think of any similarities between the two.
They are both the first boss of the wing… oh and you fight them in the arena. Almost identical lol.
Decrease the man power behind raids.

- Fixed forum bug.
Still broken.
15 60 unnecessary clicks.
There is no “raid focus”. There is a tiny team of devs that speaks to the community and shows what they are working on while the rest of the company is playing dead.
