What I don’t really like is the way they always release content. As I can understand some people may be hyped about the jungle/new PVE content, I can also understand another points of view that are not in the same direction.

For example, WvW and PvP players. I don’t know but I think no one said that Hero Points will be obtained in PvP (or if you need them to play specialization in PvP). In that case PvP players will be forced to play PVE or WvW to get them.

Then in the case of PVE and WvW, there is always a big difference and unbalance between the rewards in between these 2. In PVE, you are going to get 10 Hero Points per each you get in the jungle. On the other hand in WvW you will be getting 1 by 1, so it will make much much slower getting hero points in WvW than in PVE. My complain is that, why is there always much more rewardings (in all kind of things) in PVE that in another game modes? Why is always PVE above everything else?

In PvP you get everything for free. In WvW it depends on which item you buy. It is 1:10 for HoT hp unlock or 1:1 for Tyria per rank. In PvE you need to do 20-40 hero challenges if you want to unlock traits/skills + skins.

That’s barely a grind IMO. You will get all hero points in a couple of hours of NEW area exploration.

I highly doubt it. If you played any of the BWEs you will need gliding and mushroom jumping to get around the map properly, and these will take a lot more than a couple of hours to achieve.

New personal story gives you quite a bit of exp. Just do first mission on all your characters and you will already have gliding, shroom jumping and probably even updraft in a couple of minutes.

Sorry, but that is false. I did the first part of the story mission and played over 8 hours doing events (when they were available) to get lvl 1 gliding and lvl 1 mushroom jumping. Leveling masteries took a long time in the BWE3 because not many things gave good exp.

In BWE3 I got them after going through available story with 4 beta characters and doing like 3 events.

How will raids actually require Ascended?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

In all examples it seems ppl compare full berserker sets. Is that a requirement now, even though Anet talks about moving away from all zerker parties?

Yes. While Anet does talk about moving away from zerker/sinister builds, the raid content shown so far suggests otherwise.

Meaning it’s doable with full zerker, or a requirement to be able to do it within the time limit?

Actually no group has done the Raid in full Berserker to my knowledge so that is false.

yeah, “only” 9 people in each case were in berserkers/sinisters :P

How is “Sinister” a “zerker”?

People like to call “zerker” everything that is glass cannon. So Berserker, Sinister and Assassin’s gear is “zerker”. That’s why so many people that wanted “zerker meta nerf” are so upset right now. They wanted dps role to be optional and instead they got more damage types required.

I don’t get why people care about world firsts on here so much as they are having emotional reactions over it, wtf. It makes no sense to me how someone could possibly care that much about whether or not two guilds they aren’t in are testing the raids.

I can think of a million other things right now that would make me much more upset than that. Meh, trying to make sense of it is pointless I guess.

Emotions carry neuroses and old grudges as water carries debris and slime.
It gets particularly bad if you’re ashamed of it (as we’re taught) and try to mask it with “cold logic” or file it under “reasonable complaint”.
Coldness is overrated anyway. Speak up.

Ascended grind required going forward?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

I think it is extremely disingenuous to label Fractals as simply ‘gear-gated’. Not to mention that Raids actually have a much less stringent gate than Fractals.

Even on the current system, you can get pretty far with fractals in just ascended trinkets.

And it is not like crafting Ascended Armor is dark magic.

What would make it a more honest description in your opinion?

Are you disputing the claim that a certain grade of gear is a functional requirement to complete this content? That would be odd, given that you go on to say that one can “get pretty far” if you already have some of the gear behind which it is gated. So… you can get part-way through the gated content when you’ve partially overcome the gate.

Ascended trickets are not difficult to get. In fact, most ascended trinkets are notoriously easy to get. You can get a full set with just normal play.

The actual hard gate only comes into play after you have placed agony infusions in all those slots.

My challenge stems from the implication that fractals are virtually unapproachable unless you are fully decked out in ascended. That is what calling it ‘gear-gated’ suggests and that is clearly not true.

Ascended trinkets aren’t easy to get in ‘normal’ play. My normal play doesn’t include fractals, and I think I might have dropped maybe 9 ascended pieces in 3 years of playing.

Maybe if you could progress in fractals by doing one at a time it would be something that interests me, but gimmick mechanics, jumping, dodge roll or instant death etc aren’t really my cup of tea.

Uh, laurels?

-55 a month for logging in

If you do NOTHING but log in you can get enough laurels to buy a full set of trinkets in exactly 3 months.

If you play normally and do not waste your gold, you should have enough cash/ecto/materials to get all the trickets and well on your way to getting at least one weapon/backpack in this period of time.

And this is starting out on a new account and assuming something like 1 -2 rare drops a day.

GW is a game and not a job.

Sooo playing an MMO few hours a week is a job now. Login rewards confirmed to be a grind.

So dungeon rewards... why?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

Honestly, Anet doesn’t have to change the rewards. All they have to do is implement character model collision and it will break the stacking meta. Once the stacking meta is broken, dungeons will take an hour plus to complete instead of the fifteen minutes they take now.

I replied to your thread in the dungeons forum, but I will reply to it here too. Are you aware that stacking doesn’t raise group dps?

Yes, it just concentrates the entire focus of the action onto a single point. So all boons, buffs, conditions, and damage is all in one single spot.

Total damage of course is exactly the same, but the effect of all that damage hitting simultaneously is a lot different than that same damage spread over a greater area.

Say for instance there are 5 elite mobs with 50k hp each. If players didn’t stack, those mobs would have to be individually taken down. Which would mean players would have to output 250k damage. However with stacking, all the mobs enter one spot, so the players can kill all 5 with only 50k damage.

There is a huge difference..

Someone else responded saying people don’t stack anymore, but run CoE or CoF Caudecus P1 P2 in a pug. You’ll find stacking is still the norm.

Players would just use pulls such as mesmer focus 4, gaurdian gs 5, ele earth shield, engi shield, etc to stack enemies up, and then circle around them. I think the smallest range buff is 300. That is tons of space. Players do not need to be stacked on one another to get this benefit, and in fact frequently in harder fights, they do not stack. For example most bosses in fractals.

Just consider what player collisions would do to the game. It is going to be impossible to reach banks, merchants, black lion, etc. You go to dodge out of an aoe, and someone stops you from dodging out? Not to mention the trolling aspects. You could form lines of people to prevent access to content. What if someone just afks in a doorway, not even intentionally trolling? World bosses would be so crowded you’d have to bring ranged weapons because it would be impossible to reach the boss.

Not to mention, your example is for TRASH mobs. Those things that we can perma blind, stun lock, etc. There is nothing interesting about trash because the majority of players can avoid 100% of their damage. They are completely just a time sink. The pve side of the game should not be balanced around trash mobs, but rather bosses.

The number one thing anet can do to improve pve, is to actually devote some resources to it, and actually make new content.

Dungeons are 5 man instances. I didn’t ask for collision to be implemented in cities. Only in areas where stacking is used to to such an extent that the actual gameplay mechanics of GW2 are ignored.

As for stacking up monsters, their AI needs to be fixed so they won’t stack either. Playe to monster collision doesnt need to be impllemented, only player to player and monster to monster. Players should be able to phase thru monsters and vice versa to allow for maximum mobility and action.

That’s a loooot of work to fix a non existent problem in a content that was never really supported.

Just no.

Anyone who has played an MMO where this option was available will know just how much discrimination, griefing, and animosity this inevitably creates. Its negative impact on a gaming community far surpasses any associated benefits. And as others have already said, if you want to know what a person has…just ask! Problem solved.

I played a lot of MMOs and only “discrimination” I saw was against leechers and kittenes who think they can waste everyone’s time by PHIWing in the group content without warning anyone.

So dungeon rewards... why?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: TheRandomGuy.7246

TheRandomGuy.7246

Dungeon rewards, the cash part, is what they’re changing. Every time someone does an explorable mode dungeon 1 gold 24 silver is created out of thin air.

That’s bad for the economy.

How’s that bad for the economy?

Because it injects “new” gold into the economy. If it’s not drained away fast enough more gold in the economy leads to classic inflation.

If it was about the economy and inflation they would have added repair costs back or replaced some of this new gold with items like in silverwastes.

I’ve been absent from the froum for quite some time now, but the economy blog post got me to look what was going on here.

Maybe I overlooked it in the other comments, but I think dungeons actually still offer an interesting “currency”. Even if they nerf the gold into the abyss, a dungeon tour is one of the fastest ways to get experience in the game.
So if you want to unlock Old Tyria Masteries, I think a dungeon tour is still pretty useful in that regard. Especially if the experience cost for mastery unlocks they used in the 3rd beta weekend are any indicator for the cost on higher tier masteries.

So unless Anet decides this makes getting XP for Old Tyria Masteries too easy and changes this, maybe this is at least a bit of an incentive to do dungeons. Granted once your masteries are unlocked, the dungeons become most likely pretty obsolete for you in terms of rewards. Still it is something to keep in mind, I think.

Anyone got a chance to test how much exp dungeons give when you level masteries? Is it same ~177k exp you get at level 80 or it scales with exp required to fill mastery bar?

A lot of so-called raiders don’t actually care about raids, either. They care about being “better” than others, or getting loot faster. Give them a challenge with poor loot, or a way to bypass it entirely to get the loot, and watch what happens. They’ll face it once or twice, then avoid it at all costs.

Neither are you, remember?
Basically, both of you ask for rewards that you want to be obtained playing content that you like. The only difference is that he is okay with you getting what you ask, while you do not want to share.
Now, who is more entitled here, i wonder?

Except that I don’t ask for anything. Devs create content and add exclusive reward to it. No one cared about this for 3 years. What changed now?

Therefore, if you use that gear as a baseline for the new content, you do need to rebalance its acquisition – because the assumptions for it no longer hold true. Or you admit, that this assumption was a lie from the very beginning.

So increased drop of ascended chests with select-able stats from first bosses in raids, map reward system that will give expensive mats to you for doing random events and entire fractal rework to make them more casual friendly is not enough?

Come on ascended is not hard to get, I’ve gotten ascended from dungeon drops, from pvp chest, from fractals. I’ve only nvr gotten it from world bosses because I don’t do any of them. They are practically thrown in your face! Why are people complaining about it! If you don’t even have 1 ascended piece you probably are new or haven’t been playing the game.

That’s nice for you. Some of us aren’t so lucky. I’ve never seen an ascended drop, and I’ll be surprised if I ever do. They’re just not that common for most of us.

Here’s the thing: before the game launched, Colin said every player should be able to gear up in top tier gear once they hit 80. No gear grind necessary. Awesome. Then they changed their minds, put in ascended, and locked it behind two things: a stupid, lengthy, expensive crafting grind; and an insanely low drop rate.

But they consoled us by saying ascended would only ever be needed for high level fractals. Until now. And they’re still locked behind a stupid, lengthy, expensive crafting grind and an insanely low drop rate.

Ascended should not be in the game. Period.

Like you gonna to play raids anyway. Never did fractals or bothered to get BiS in 2-3 years and then suddenly decided to be hardcore raid player.
