I love it when this argument gets cooked up again. The answer is quite easy, just take a look around on the game before the arrival of the fen and tell me what was produced except for the Shatterer Revemp that was not a raid.

Completed story on release.
Did meta event chain 2-3 times.
1-2 full clears every week.

Agreed. It was nice to have to actually have a challenge in FoTM. Once the mechanics are understood, it’s a very reasonable fight.

Waiting to see a solo/duo for the last wisps, I’m sure there’s a better way to get all four while low manning it as the timer seems forgiving enough.

At T4 you pretty much have to deliver them at the same time, so i don’t know if its doable.

Necro can do 2 with few seconds to spare. Thief or a mesmer can probably do 3.

Fractals are not raids. Please stop.

As long as Anet insists on including enrage timers and other “kill fast” mechanics in 90%+ of the fights, this problem will exist.

You really think that without completely irrelevant enrage timers people will be fine with slow kills because some pugs decided that they are too good to be part of a team?

Yes, the hacker is the only “bad” person. If I accidentally leave my door unlocked, I am not “allowing” someone to break into my house. If someone takes advantage of my door being unlocked and steals my stuff, they are not justified. No matter how hard or easy it is, accessing someone else’s stuff without their permission is wrong.

In this case not only you left your door unlocked, but you also did it for months if not years. Robber even warned you multiple times that this is a bad idea.

Don’t mix the message the activist tried to send, with mean reactions from community. It’s two very separate things. I know activism can hurt but it has it’s purpose, do you disagree?

This wasn’t an “activist”, this was a criminal. If someone wanted to simply bring the issue to Anet’s attention, they could have gotten the account info, recorded doing it, and given that information directly to Anet. No need to access her account at all.

This is not how majority of companies work. Unless you can do a lot of damage to their services and/or reputation they will not bother.

We know where bloodstone is, we know that white mantle is experimenting with it, we know that bloodstone just turned in to a “crazy magical hot spot”. 5 minutes later we see a nuke going off right where bloodstone is located. I don’t see anything odd here.

Non-raiders do not know of these experiments before reaching the zone. All we get on the White Mantel is that they are in Magumma and Minister Caudecus escaped. As a non-raider I am voicing what I felt and it still feels, from my character’s perspective, that he is not in the loop on what’s going on.

Edit: they could have set that situation up for those that want to figure it out by themselves and for those that wanted help. For example, you could have captured a White Mantle prisoner and had the option to threaten him so he explains what to do. Those that want to figure it out themselves can do so. Those that want help can threaten the prisoner and have him tell them what to do.

- “How do I kill them?! Talk!”
- “Press Special Action Key <default keybind> and position yourself between crystal and the elemental to make him vulnerable.”

Taimi mentions activity. She doesn’t say the bloodstone is going to explode. The line is:

“The northern Bloodstone dot is flaring up. I’ll have to keep an eye on that.”

No urgency, just bemused interest. If Taimi really thought this were a possibility why wouldn’t she warn you against going? At many points in the story we get magic transfers without explosions happening, and again we’ve never seen the bloodstone as characters and if they can explode. To immediately leap to that as the explanation as opposed to the numerous possibilities in a world of magic struck me as odd.

New Bloomy isn’t bad when you adapt to him. I’d just like to see his HP reduced by a substantial amount (and possibly the champ gone, since it doesn’t bring anything to the fight except another large HP bar to be killed). Damage is already low during this fight due to forced ranged combat for most of the time, so why does Bloomy need bazillions of health in addition?

His hp is fine. What is not fine is 1 minute timegate phase. That phase is there just to waste time. Just remove it and make him port to the middle and do some one shot aoe or something.

The lines regarding Bloodstones I found particularly out of place were:

  • “I think…. it’s hard for me to actually say, but I think a Bloodstone just exploded.” I presumed that something like this happened in the raid or was acquired knowledge in the raid, but if not it’s just jarring. I don’t recall anyone witnessing one explode before.

Anomaly boss is 9/10 would fight again. Last boss is anti-melee/10. Ok fractal overall.

Snowblind:
Still have no idea why first event exists. Adding more gimmicks to it will not make it better. Ice elemental thingy is a lot better now. Not as good as old one when you could destroy his top though. Last boss is same annoying kitten with more kitten in the boss room. Why/10 for the rework.

Swamp:
Bloomhunger/10 no comments.

I think the most recent trailer for S3 dispels any notion that raids were not a significant part of the next story arc (the introduction, in fact).

Hold that judgment until you play the episode.

After seeing the actual content, instead of only the trailer, i’d say Blaeys’ fears were completely justified. That wasn’t just a tangential connection to raids. We’re definitely talking about a significant part of the story being given to only a small, chosen minority of the players.
That’s really disappointing.

The problem with raids is the fact developers still deploy the same simplistic functionality of stacking mechanics under a time-gate. Instead the developers should have not only raids, but world bosses consider the composition of the group of players engaging them and have different tactics deployed by the bosses. Rewards, I agree, should be tiered in which the faster a group progresses through the better the loot. Why? Because once the players learn the bosses they become rote? If bosses had completely different tactics in the fight dependent on the composition of players the fights would stay fresh and unique and be harder to learn. Right now it is just a simple dps race.

Not only this is a huge amount of work, but it also gonna completely remove any class/build diversity we have left.

Have you been to other sites lately, reddit, for example? I’d say that the raid opposition on official forums is the lowest of all media. And even here is far more that 5 people (notice that the number of people defending raids here isn’t that much higher either)

It’s pretty small on reddit too. A lot of those posts are just “I dislike raids”. No points, no demands, nothing useful.

So, if devs changed their mind and decided others deserve it too (like they do all the time with other things), that would be all right. Duly noted.

Yup. I don’t think I recall them making legendaries accessible outside of their intended content tho.

Sure. They are. Just as WvW is PvP. And yet WvW is being considered to be a distinct game mode.

WvW is nothing like 5v5 sPvP so of course it gonna be a distinct game mode. The only difference between raids and openworld/fractals/dungeons is party size.

The example I would give you of a game that really discouraged this kind of behavior is pretty easy – GW2 at launch and during the first 3 years.

i dont have one but it can be derived from the earnings spike from ncsofts report for the relevant time period and is somewhere around several million. check reddit, theres always a thread on earnings there.

Sub has ~129k people.
By doing some “math” and assuming a lot of stuff like gem store sales not increasing with the release and that everyone bought cheapest version of HoT I ended up with ~ 281k – ~300k copies sold.
That’s really not that big of a difference.

PS3 is dead.
PS4 will not even run it in 720p@30fps without a lot of optimization.
And this is just the hardware problems.

What exactly “is” being made?

1 new fractal, “bigger” story episodes with 2-3 months breaks between them (because of the pvp balance /o\) and some pvp maps. At least that’s what leaked interview says.

Nerfed how. Examples of a direct dungeon nerf would be nice. At the moment I can only recall indirect nefs which are power creep and adjusted downscaling which is basically a power creep on top of a power creep.

I believe there were massive changes that were not well communicated to players which led to massive outrage by the community as well, one of it was the karma change.

Changes were not communicated to players at all. Small note in a wvw beta part of the wall of patch notes released months ago is not communication.
