Although it is possible to place siege in that particular spot you do not have to “throw” it and you can destroy it with counter siege from the tower or even with AoE from the ledge just below it. It is not invulnerable.

It is interesting to note that although NSP and SF are both HIGH population servers and HoD is a Medium population server, HoD is managing to stay within striking for second place. NSP which has the same population as SF cannot match SF’s pace.

So what that does all tell you? HoD relies on skills, not numbers, SF has numbers and NSP has neither!

Although I have a full set of magic find gear I would not dare use it in WvW yet I find at least one exotic per week and one rare per day with 0% MF. I do however go to PvE to grind out cash as I am tempted to spend it faster then I can make it in WvW on upgrades. Once I get a few gold it is back to WvW to spend it all. ;(

That is why I would report those that I suspect of cheating. I abhor it and would even turn in my own Guild members if I suspected it. It is not that you were aware of someone cheating, it is that you would profit from it.

I will however test the arrow cart from where someone mentioned a possibility!

I would do the same as would all the SF commanders I know, but I was only pointing out that there is a gray area with behavior such as this(re complacency) due to the very nature of the word. Also in regards to snowflake debacle, I would argue that there is a clear distinction between running unknowingly w/ a hacker in a zerg and the snowflake exploit. For one thing, those who were banned by the admins for the snowflakes willfully committed the “ban-able” acts(of their own volition), whereas lowbies running around in a zerg are only doing just that, running around in a zerg, which is in and of itself completely within the established “rules” of wvw.

But then again, one can never know the mind of ANET; we in SF had no idea we would be bumped up manually T7, but here we are.

Thanks for the response and that is exactly the point I was trying to make although it may have been a bit obtuse. We do not know what ANET’s response would be in such a situation but I for one would not want to risk my account because of it. Thusly I would report those I suspect and refuse to group/zerg/ and run solo if I had to. It is just not worth it to me. I enjoy a good honest battle and would hate to see either side suffer because of someone’s “need” to win at all costs. Perhaps it could be a bad case of OCD because if I see something I do not understand it bugs me until I research and test out all possibilites.

Now there may be a possible explanation but be warned that we did take screenshots. The sad but irrefutable fact is that if someone in your zerg was cheating by using a PoV modifier hack, then the WHOLE zerg, all 50+, are complicit and at the risk of being banned.

If they were hacking, would the whole zerg be complicit in the action even if most had no knowledge of it? The clear answer is no since complacency requires awareness of wrongdoing.

Thanks to those that gave me possible solutions/reasons as to how what I witnessed may have been possible. I appreciate the input.

Now as far as the answer to the above question goes. I am fully aware that most in a zerg that size would be totally innocent if it was in fact cheating. (again thanks for the possible solutions ) but consider for example those that were banned for the snowflake fiasco. They had no knowledge that it was an exploit yet they profitted by it and they were banned until ANET had a chance to review the situation. I am not professing to have knowledge of what they would do in such a case, but the possibility is there until they have a chance to review each and every individual involved in that zerg. That is why I would report those that I suspect of cheating. I abhor it and would even turn in my own Guild members if I suspected it. It is not that you were aware of someone cheating, it is that you would profit from it.

I will however test the arrow cart from where someone mentioned a possibility!

Something to point out here that I mentioned in another thread. When SF took our Bay keep yesterday and were at the north inner gate of the keep, we had FULL AOE circles (you know those red things you are supposed to roll out of) well within the keep as far back as the steps going down to the Lord’s Room. Now I later went and tried to duplicate those circles, even by going as far as placing ACs where SF had theirs, but to no avail. I tried a Ranger, a Mesmer, An Ele and still could not duplicate those full AoE circles that far into the inner keep with the gate up.

Now there may be a possible explanation but be warned that we did take screenshots. The sad but irrefutable fact is that if someone in your zerg was cheating by using a PoV modifier hack, then the WHOLE zerg, all 50+, are complicit and at the risk of being banned.

I do not mind losing a fair and honest fight but I will do everything I can to catch and report cheaters. Now again I am not saying that is what occurred in this case, as again I may have missed something. If I did I would appreciate your input.

Theftwind.8976

Well that could be a possible explanation on how a SF Guardian came through the gate at Sunnyhill yesterday while the gate was still up. I am sure there is another explanation for it but hacking would be one. It may also explain why I could see red AOE circles near the Lord’s room at Inner Bay while the inner gate was still up and the zerg was still on the other side. Now they were full AOE circles, well outside the range of normal PoV as I used all my toons and every method possible to try and replicate what I saw to no avail. I used a Ranger, a Mesmer, an Ele, I even built ACs where SF had theirs placed and I just could not get the AoE circles to appear that far into the inner keep. There is just no logical explanation for it but again maybe there is one that I am not seeing. I do believe some of our people took screenies in both cases.

Really, if you want or need lessons on how to solo an undefended camp I will gladly take donations for lessons!

Can you teach me how to carry 100 supply all by myself quickly and efficiently? I think you can teach me how to carry 5 more, but I’m afraid that’ll take a long time.

4 guys with maxed out supply capacity can carry 100 supply in one go. :>
Add a guild bonus on top of it and 5 guys can carry 150 supply.
Now the only question is where this supply should come from, as no matter the capacity, the rate at which supply is generated will still be the same.

Well after getting some sleep and then reading these answers I would be forced to agree with your logic in most cases but sadly I cannot agree with you on this point. You see, that 30+ zerg to cap an undefended supply camp was AFTER you already held every objective on the map and after you had capped two previous camps. The need to stock up on supply would not have been there. So I just have to call it as I see it, a 30+ zerg to capture one undefended supply camp because the zerg is all you know.

My apologies but I just cannot see the veracity behind your arguments and my offer on training you to cap a supply camp solo still stands and the fee will be nominal.

I hate having to pick up loot bags during a fight. If you are looting then you are not fighting is the way I see it. As well there have been countless times when I have recalled from a massive battle only to have loot bags dropping at my feet while running back to the fight forcing me to stop, turn around and backtrack to grab it and continue running only to have another drop.

On the topic of loot does anyone else still have an issue when they click on chests to have nothing show up as being in that chest? I was under the impression that they had fixed that problem.

You have to experiment a bit with each camp to figure out the best way to pull a few at a time but on a freshly flipped camp I can have everyone gone by the time the Supervisor’s buff wears off. Some camps are easy (the easiest being the NW camp in the BLs) some are difficult but they can all be soloed.

Theftwind.8976

I have to agree with some of this. Take Magic Find for example. If I just equip my magic find gear, full armour and trinket set, the changes in loot drops is unnoticeable. To see any change whatsoever in loot I have to use food and a guild buff plus my magic find gear. If I do all of that I find at times, 1 rare per hour of farming. Soon after that DR kicks in. So as a Guardian Twilight would be what I would go after but to get all those items required for it I would be farming for the rest of my life and being retired now I do not have that much time left.

So I could buy most of the stuff from the TP. But wait, that takes gold, lots of gold, and I totally detest playing the trading post but ANET has made it the most viable form of earning gold. I do like farming as I can throw a game on the tele and farm away but there is that thing called DR. I could suppose BUY gems and then convert to gold but did I mention I am retired? On a fixed pension?

Then finally they have what they call precursors. For Twilight I need Dusk to drop, somewhere, somehow. Did I mention I just do not have that much time in my life waiting for a drop that is so low that a snakes belly would be way above it?

So unless I want to spend hours manipulating the trading post, spend lots of real life money buying gems to convert to gold, or grind my way through diminishing returns, and pray to every God that ever existed for a precursor drop, I will just have to give up on Twilight. ANET hower expects the above to be FUN!

WvW Titles/Rank/Skills & Multiple Characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Theftwind.8976

I have 3 characters, level 80s, that I currently use in WvW. My Guardian, a thief and an ele. All have their own particular skills for particular jobs and I will alternate between characters depending on what type of mix the team requires at any particular time. The upcoming changes being character bound will force me to play only one of those characters, regardless of what is required at the time. That character will be forced to keep up to those that play only one character or be at a disadvantage when fighting those characters, similar in part to fighting someone geared with all ascended versus exotic or lower.

Take someone that plays only one toon, has it maxed to the hilt with ascended gear, plus the enhanced abilities this system brings in WvW and place him against someone that plays multiple toons. That second person is not going to be able to match the first as he has to spread upgrades across all his toons. So as many mentioned people will pick one character only for WvW as they have little choice.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

I have been playing online for many years, more years probably then many here have been alive and it has always been the same with regards to end game content/dungeons. A certain portion of the population will run these dungeons over and over again and post on how they did it in 15 minutes. The next group has to better that so they will finish in 10 minutes and then state on how “easy” that dugeon is to beat for players of their “skill level”.

So the game developer makes that dungeon more difficult but forgets about the majority of their population that does not run them over and over again. Yet it is not about skill level at all, it is all about knowledge. Take the JP in the Wv3 borderland for an example. The first time I did it it took me upwards of 2 hours. Now I can run both halves of the keys and get to the chest in under 10 minutes. Is that skill? Not in the least. I am no more skillful with the keyboard then I was a year ago, or 10 years ago. However I do have the knowledge of which path to take, where to jump from, where to jump to, etc.

So we have people who can speed run a dungeon in 10 minutes and claim it is all skill when skill does not factor in at all. It is just knowledge of where the mobs are, which ones you have to attack, which ones you can bypass and so forth. If that dungeon was randomized each and every time do you think any of these skillful people could run it in 10 minutes? I am willing to bet they would not for they would once again lack the knowledge required.

So the developers make the dungeons more difficult but those players that regularily run them will eventually learn the knowledge to be able to run them in 10 minutes again. They do not become more skillful, just more knowledgeable. That however leaves the casual players at a great disadvantage. They do not have the knowledge of which mobs to kill, which to skip, where to hide, where to jump and most do not have the luxury of time to gain that knowledge.

So where does it all end? With a small group of “elites” telling others that an mmo is not meant for them yet those same elites would cry foul if the dungeon was random each and every time forcing them to utilize skills versus knowledge.

I would rather see different coloured icons for different levels of Commanders. For example a new “store bought” icon would be the blue it now is. Once that player has so many objectives in WvWvW then the icon goes up to red. An established Commander that has accumalated lots of experiance in Wv3 would gain a gold icon. Each step up would allow a larger “party” size with blues getting the 10 they now have, red 15, gold 20 or something to that effect. Along those lines they could then add a colour for Guilds, perhaps a green icon with a blue slash for new Commanders, red for those with some experiance and gold for established and just green for a group of Guild members without a Commander.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Theftwind.8976

In my humble opinion it is not that dungeons are too hard, it is the scaling of the dungeons that seems to be off. For the February monthly, 5 of us, all family members, ran a few of the dungeons, most for the first time. All were level 80 and all were equipped with exotic gear. We found the lower level dungeons much more difficult then the higher level ones. The experiance was such that none of us really care to do dungeon runs. I think the problem arises because the scaling of the dungeons for level 80’s takes into account that those level 80’s COULD be outfitted with ascended gear which makes things more difficult for those in exotic or rares. Scale it to that point and those in ascended complain the dungeons are too easy.

Although I have not got the best ISP, just the best of what is offered in my area, I highly doubt it is a product of latency on my end. At that point I would have to knock graphics back a bit but those times were an issue with the 570 nvidia cards I was using. I just recently upgraded to two 660 ti nividia cards which seemed to have helped that issue but there is nothing I can do for the lag in skills.

That stated however if anyone knows the address to do a tracert back to arenanet I will give that a shot the next time I am suffering and see where it leads.

Skill Lag is Killing Me - Literally!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

Skill lag over the past couple of months has not improved but in fact has gotten worse. I lost count of how many times I have died in WvWvW due to clicking my heal skill and having nothing happen. The heal skill is the one that seems to be the most impacted and even in PvE it is noticeable. On my Guardian, level 80, I have experianced skill lag just farming mobs in PvE and even automatic healing is affected. After a battle the healing at times does not kick in for upwards of 5 seconds, without having any debuffs applied and I find myself having to stop to wait for my health to regenerate before going to the next group. Now I can see if I had a condition preventing me from healing but it looks like ALL conditions will prevent my heal from kicking in and not just those that have “prevent healing” in the tooltip and as stated even with no conditions the delay on the heal is noticeable.

Heal however is not the only skill impacted. I was defending a tower a couple days ago and using staff at the gate when my character froze up in cast. So I backed away from the gate and attempted to build a catapult, nothing happened. I backed up to the Lords Room and attempted to use a mortar and again nothing. Finally, while standing at the mortar my character started to move again…BUILDING the catapult while he was up at the mortar! My character movement was not impacted but any skills I tried to use or any actions other then moving was. Needless to say the gate went down and I was crushed by a wave of enemies.

With the upcoming patch doing away with “culling” I am hoping that lag on skills will also be addressed. I did not experiance this problem through last year and it is only the past month or so where it has become problematic. Because of this my WvWvW time has dropped dramatically and even my overall time spent in the game has dropped. I can live with dieing due to my personal lack of skill but I cannot accept it when it is a result of game mechanics not working.

How To Be a Good Commander???

in WvW

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

I could sum it up simply.

To be a good Commander you must first learn how to be a good follower.

Why? Then you will know to recognize mistakes made by those leading, learn how to counter/avoid those mistakes and most imprtantly SHARE things with the “enlisted” members of your army. As well as learn how to take advice/criticism. In fact as for the latter on advice and criticism, if you do not learn how to take it you will never make a good Commander, no matter how much gold you have ot how large your guild is.

Stealing from guild bank

Theftwind.8976

It is all a matter of trusting someone and being trustworthy yourself. A person has to have some modicum of integrity for without it you will lead a lonely life. In a previous game I was leader of a small guild and the people we had in that guild all trusted each other, or so we thought. The wife, myself and one other person were the most active guild members and therefore placed the most items into the guild vault. We had one rule that if you required something take it but put something of equal value that you did not require in its place and everyone followed it. Then one day we found a guild member that had been with us for almost a full year, had quit the guild and had cleaned everything out of the vault on his way out. The interesting point is the logs showed he had put very little in over his time period with us. We made sure that everyone in the game and on the forums knew who that person was. Poor guy never did find himself another guild.

However lesson learned on our part and since then the wife and I have formed our own guild, just the two of us for although 99% of the people are trustworthy there is always one bad apple in the barrel. I hate the stink of bad apples. They are useless and deserve nothing less then to be tossed on lifes garbage pile.

If you want mounts that are of any use then go to LoTRO where they developed mounted combat. However you cannot fight while mounted in every region of that game as they had to put in special regions, overly large and open in order to accomodate mounted combat. In other regions the mounts are just for travel purposes.

If you want mounts purely for cosmetic purposes I would rather have them spend their time on other things such housing, game fixes, town clothes, new content before even considering taking the time to develop mounts. As someone stated the sheer amount of development time required so each race fits each mount properly is just not worth the effort when that time could be better used elsewhere. With the amount of development time required they would have to wait for a future expansion and have a team dedicated just for that purpose.

- make the currents roads “upgradeable”. Upgrade the roads and dolyaks move faster and anyone on the road would gain a small speed increase as well.

- a redesign of tower/keep/castle walls that would allow siege placement that would function (especially the ballista) without having to place it within range of AOE. Siege should be used to take down siege not a zerg with massive amounts of AOE.

Introduce counters to Stealth mechanic in WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

Theftwind: I’m curious how this would work. Particularly how it’d work for S/D and how you’d keep S/D on equal ground with S/P.

Shadowstep is not a true stealth. What it does is increase the mobility of the thief. If you remove stealth then increasing mobility by buffing the Shadowstep line of skills and perhaps adding a couple more in place of the stealth skills you would maintain a balance. Each of the weapon skills be they S/D, S/P or D/D would have to be buffed with an increase in mobility. I have not yet worked it all out as it was a random thought. So although a thief would not be able to stealth to avoid an attack he would be able to dodge/shadowstep away from an attack easier.

Stealth makes a thief harder to hit, that is part of being a thief. What I gave was just a suggestion to keep the thief from being hit easily without the stealth mechanic.

Introduce counters to Stealth mechanic in WvW

in Suggestions

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

Thieves do higher damage while in stealth, in fact stealth is the reason why they have such high damage output. However when not stealthed thieves also take alot of damage and coupled with a low hitpoint pool they are quick to go down

Thieves that are set up as glass cannon, burst dps are not that easy to play. You have to have your timing perfect and your eye/hand coordination has to be impeccable. I cannot play my thief in that fashion as my reflexes just will not allow it. However I rely on stealth to allow myself a chance at survival. In WvW with my exotic equipped Guardian I can easily solo capture a supply camp and even survive one or two enemy adds while capping that camp. My exotic equiped thief can do a solo camp but it requires time, timing and patience and any enemies coming by would mean his end except for having the luxury of stealth. Yes there are thieves that can easily cap a camp solo with adds but they are not as common as you may think.

Any changes to stealth would also require changes to damage output/mitigation and a higher hitpoint pool to balance. One thing that could help and not take directly from the thief would be to remove the ability of the thief to use enviromental mobs or siege to C&D especially in WvW. However they would need that ability in PvE.

And theirin lies the root of the problem What you change in PvP/WvW in regards to stealth mechanics would destroy most thieves in the PvE enviroment.

They could remove stealth altogether by buffing the Shadowstep line of skills.

Infiltrator’s Arrow
Infiltrator’s Signet
Infiltrator’s Strike
Ink Shot ?
Smoke Trail
Shadow Shot
Shadow Strike
Shadow Trap ?
Shadow Pursuit
Shadowstep ?
Shadow Return
Steal

Buff that line of skills as well as a thief’s heal ability and thieves would still be viable without stealth. Those skills however would need some work on durations, damage output, etc.

For the most part I try to keep the names suitable to both race or profession. Thus my Mesmers name is Gordion Knot (sylvari), my thief is Sinister Shadowsong (sylvari), my engineer is an Asuran named Meta Lurgy, I have an Asuran ele who goes by the name of Flerious (which means fire), my Norn warrior is Bori Grimbattle my human necromancer is Locke Cursdylfe and a charr ranger by the name of Criswynwolf.

The only two that do not fit this scheme are my main and an Asuran thief that was created for fun. The wife and I made a pair of Asuran thieves and “borrowed” inspiration from Starwars and Spaceballs. They go by the names of Luke and Leia Lonestarr, Asuran twin thieves. The name of my main, Theftwind Lafinathu has been an online and offline name for my main character since the dawn of home computer gaming and before the internet when BBS and public dialports were the mainstay of online gaming.

Account-wide dyes

Theftwind.8976

Having a full stable of alts I would love to see them account wide but if they will not do that at least make an interface adjustment so when I loot a dye on one alt I can instantly see which of my characters has that dye without having to place it in the vault and log in my toons one at a time to check. At the same time they could provide us with a sortable list view of the dyes to make it easier to see which hues we are lacking, which ones we want and what we already have.

At least by adding an interface improvement as mentioned above having the dyes character bound versus account bound would not be so frustrating.

Mounts: Do we need them?

in Suggestions

Once again I will reiterate. Mounts are not possible unless the game is revamped completely. Think very carefully about any stun/root/ an enemy has whether that enemy is pve or wvw. That root has to target an object. So you have to cast it BOTH on the horse and the rider or it will not work. Guardian chains of light for example, affects ONE object only. Not two. So what would you do, make a mounted person one object only? Does that object then have more hitpoints then either the horse or the rider alone? Will you be able to take damage while on horseback or not? If you do take damage can you deal damage? If you do not take damage what a way to break through enemy lines!

People just do not think things out when asking for mounts. The current game design will have to be modified, skills will have to be changed/altered, which would break most if not all current builds.

Teleporting Farming Bots

Uhm, few pointers

  • you can’t teleport from node to node.
  • WPing all the time can get expensive, nullifying profit from farming

It’s more likely that some players just log in to their harvest toons. Say you got 5h Ori node, you can harvest it 3 times a day. You don’t want to spend an hour running around every other node because harvesting that one takes 3 minutes total per day for 15 Ori.

Why did you assume they were bots in the first place?

A little research via google will uncover a variety of “hacks” one of which will port a user from node to node and is limited only by the number of coordinates listed. You will see it easily in game if you are near several nodes. You will see the hacker blink between those 3 nodes without running to them.

Anet needs to put in a tracker that will count the time between node harvests to determine which ones are possible and which are not.

T8 Frustration

Points scored by holding/taking objectives should be modified by how many people you have on a particular map at the point timer tick. The point timer that is in game should be removed and the timer should be random with a given number of ticks in a 24 hour period but those ticks do not occur every hour on the hour. For example at 8am server time the score is checked on how many objectives a server owns versus how many people currently present on the map. The next hour the points might not be allocated until 9:15 server time, next at 10:21. As long as the points are updated once every 60 minute period. This randomization is so servers do not capture a pile of objectives then suddenly logout so they can get a bigger score.

So all that has to be done then is to figure out a modifier using the populations of all 3 servers in a map. Server A has 50 people, Server B, 100, Server C 150. For any specific objective in that map Server B would score normal points, Server A, Double and Server C 1/2 of the normal point distribution. Holding assets therefore becomes a priority versus capping an asset and moving on to the next without defending/upgrading the captured asset. Night shifts on servers with low coverage would still be able to score points by holding onto objectives even if they cannot hold them all against a larger server as they will be making more points per objctive then the large server would be.

Plus in the end the point spread should be tighter and could very well be determined by how many Dolyaks/Sentries each time capped.

3-8 NSP GoM Hod

It was a good move by GoM. NSP was hell bent on destroying HoD last week, turning our map green a number of times allowing GoM to come up from the middle position and take the prize. Hats off to the Gommie Bears!

Guesting NEEDS to stop

Theftwind.8976

Well HoD is a low population server yet tonight we were kicked to overflow in Frostforge Sound for the Claw of Jormag. Now I have run that event many times in the past and have never been pushed into overflow and forced to miss it until guesting was introduced.

What does puzzle me though is these “guests” will come over long before the event begins and stand around for an hour or more but WHO invites them? If nobody is inviting them then they are no longer guests but home invaders!

Theftwind.8976

To the three NSP that were camping the JP in our BL earlier just below the vault. Why did you turn tail and run? There were 3 of us versus 3 of you and you had the high ground. Do you think perhaps because we killed one of you the other two could see their lives flash in front of their eyes? Or perhaps because you no longer outnumbered us you decided that discretion was the better part of valor? Run and hide, we are coming for you!

What about removing Magic Find?

I have a full set of exotic MF gear on my level 80 Guardian. I also have a full set of exotic Knights armor on him. Although I do not wear my MF gear while running fractals or dungeons I do run it when farming solo and I have one statement to add here.

I am less effective running a bad build then I am running my MF gear. In fact I am more likely to be defeated with a bad build versus MF. So if your true purpose in wanting MF removed is so that people will be more effective in dungeons and fractals then you should consider asking bad builds to be removed first.

Ambient killer daily

Theftwind.8976

Way back when I played Horizons, PETA got involved because one of the sources for leather for crafting was “cute, helpless deer”. It was laughable. In this game we can also kill deer but they are not considered “ambient”. My question to the OP however would be where the line should be drawn? Are chickens ok to kill? I do like hot wings once in awhile and barbecued they are delicious. Cats? How about rats? Some people like rats, most do not.

In the end it is not about what effect it has on “children”. It is the duty of the parent to teach children the difference between reality and fantasy, right and wrong and not the duty of some computer game.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

Theftwind.8976

This is the way things usually went during my Guardians’ personal story with TreeFern. Guardian kills the mobs, revives TreeFern, kills more mobs, revives TreeFern again, ad infinitum, then sits backs and listens to TreeFern get all the praise. He did not even have the decency to call be by my real name or even refer to me as his personal medic! Oh and his speeches! Full of cliches meant to inspire the crowds and which forced me to start skipping those scenes and reading the script versus listening to that voice. <insert yawn here> If he was not lying on his back he was rooted in place (taking nourishment I guess)
But my main beef is that my Guardian could have put that Greatsword to far better use and I found it! At least a Guardians weapon of choice is a Greatsword! He did not even know how to hold it properly, his grip was too wooden! They should have given him a woodcutter’s axe and let him have a horrible accident with it.
