Theftwind.8976

Whether the OP is truthful or not it is still a poor design on the bags as far as I am concerned. Items in the invisible bag will not show at vendors but items have to be manually placed into it. Items in an equipment box are automatically put in but they show at vendors. As well any piece of equipment looted will go into the equipment box if there is an empty slot available so if you fill that slot then swap to a one hand weapon to dual weapons one item invariably goes into the general inventory.

With a bit of work those bags could become dedicated. Once you manually replace an item in a slot it stays there unless you move it out. I have played many games that allowed add-on’s to do such a thing so why game companies are always so far behind the curve on inventory management is quite beyond me.

As a convenience thing it would be nice. When I have my ele in WvW in the open areas I prefer to use d/d but when defending or attacking a tower/keep I swap to staff. It is a pain to have to stop, open inventory, find the daggers and swap them out and then rinse repeat once you get to the next objective. Have a longer cooldown before swaps are available but at least make it available.

Better story mode dungeon rewards

Theftwind.8976

How about this method for dungeon rewards be they explore mode or story mode. The chests in a dungeon have to be targeted/attacked with a skill from a specific class (eg a thief skill or a mesmer skill) before the chest is opened in order to gain the highest possible rewards such as a guaranteed exotic. If the required class is not present in the party to “activate/charge” the chest the chest returns the normal chances of loot in other words they open as status quo.

What better way to ensure every class is viable on dungeon speed runs instead of the normal mesmer/beserker warrior requirements? The more varied your party is the more chances you have at better loot!

Is DR adversely affecting the RNG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Theftwind.8976

There are different types of random number generators and some are, how shall we say it, more random then others. Generators that use a fixed seed will return a set of numbers that will eventually repeat, that is there is a pattern to them. Those that use a random seed will produce a wider variety of results. These generators, called pseudo random number generators are commonly used in computer games as they can return a result faster then hardware dependent rngs. Thus it is possible that one person with a fixed seed could very well experience worse luck then another person and that “luck” is not because of true rng but due to the type of rng used.

Confirmation on Salvage Rare & Exotic

Theftwind.8976

How about this for an idea? Just have a bag/panel with one defined slot for a salvage kit. Fill the bag with things you want to salvage and once you drop the kit into the defined slot all items in that bag get salvaged as long as there are uses left in the salvage kit. So if you fill the bag/panel with whites you can drop a low level kit into the slot. Fill it with exotics and you can drop a blsk into it. Once the bag/panel is empty and closed the salvage kit is auto returned to your regular inventory slots.

I added the panel because this could also be done at any craft station with the Master crafter/vendor having a panel that could be opened to do essentially the same thing. Click the items in your bags to salvage, they get dropped into the panel and then add whatever salvage kit you wish to use. Then click salvage.

I have to agree with you in part. I used the dragon helm skin on my Guardian and found I absolutely hate the way it looks on him. So now I am in a quandary. The helm is slotted with a Superior Rune of Divinity currently going for over 9 gold on the TP. I could change the skin back but then I lose the skin which would work better on my warrior. If I replace the helm then I have an helm with a Superior rune of Divinity and a skin that no one else can use as it is soulbound plus I would have to spend over 9 gold for another rune for the new helm.

If you have a thief you would know how to counter a thief. In WvW yesterday we had an enemy D/D stealth built thief harassing us and as you say one-shotting people from stealth. At first I had my Guardian in, that thief went down and at no time was my Guardian ever under 50% health. I was even rezzing teammates while that thief was trying to down me, he could not do so. Later I had my necro in and a few wells and marks and the thief quickly left the area. Finally I brought my own thief in and since my thief is not a D/D glass cannon build the enemy again went down and he could not kill me. A thief played by someone who is very quick on the keys and knows what he is doing is difficult to kill but then so is ANY profession when played by someone who knows what they are doing and is adept on the keys.

leveling alts

Theftwind.8976

Currently I have 8 level 80’s with the ninth about 1/3 of the way there. There is one major flaw behind wanting to level faster and that flaw becomes especially evident the faster you level your character. You just cannot play with the same degree of skill on a fast leveled character then you can on a slow leveled toon. The characters that I leveled quickly do poorer in WvW then the ones that I took my time on simply because I know how to play that character better. I am more familiar with the strengths and the weaknesses of the slower leveled character.

I have seen this in most every game I have played. Someone will get power leveled or even buy that service but when push comes to shove they do not know how to play that character and more often then not become a liability to the party/group. So although it is possible in GW2 to level a toon to 80 in a few hours I take at least a week to do so and do it through the full range of possibilities, crafting, questing, story, wvw, etc. so when that character is ready to play as a level 80 I am ready to play it as a level 80 and not as a brand new character with high skills.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Theftwind.8976

If they are using a pseudo rng which entails using a seed number to determine the final outcome then it could very well be account bound. The major problem that could arise is if they use a FIXED seed number and if that number is tied to your account. If that is the case the rng will return a repeating pattern of numbers. So it is possible that your account could return a lousy set of numbers for wont of a better term while someone elses, with a different seed, could be seen as luckier.

Whats the next playable race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

The next playable race will be totally random. Upon creating a character there will be a dice roll which will determine what race your character is. Then every 10 levels the dice are rolled again and your character’s race changes dependent on the outcome of that roll.

Of course for a small fortune in gems you will be able to buy “race boxes” which will have 3 random races in it and which will limit the number of possibilities to 3 races every 10 levels that your character will change to.

Too many people do not want to answer those noob questions that to them, with thousands of hours in the game, sound stupid. To people logging in for the first time the answers to those questions will make a big difference in their enjoyment of the game. Sure, an answer such as “google <insert question>” will still give them the answer but answers/help given in game do something more. They help the new person forge connections in the game and in an mmo connections in game is what makes the game.

The word “noob” should be banned from any online game.

DR broken again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

The first online game I ever played was a script based game and it had a form of diminishing returns. Once you killed a particular MoB so many times you had to move elsewhere and kill something else in order to refresh. DR was used in that game to allow more people a chance to kill certain MoBs rather then having elite killers dominate the area. In this game the DR is supposedly used to combat bots.

There was/is one major difference however between the two games which made the first instance of DR I have encountered a lot more enjoyable then the current form and that is way back then they explained to us exactly how it worked. The developers of that game let us know when we reached DR and also let us know how long we had before it was erased from our character. In GW2 they are so preoccupied with the Bot issue that they do not understand or do not have the vision to see that they create more frustration and acrimony by not answering questions on DR then they would create/allow bot issues.

Through the many threads on DR and its effect on people they have not come out and answered questions such as those I asked above or even why some people seem to be stuck with permanent DR at times. It seems to me that answering people’s questions would be better then waiting until there are no people to ask those questions.

DR broken again?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

DR is part of the game and although I agree with the rational behind DR I would love to know just SOME of the base mechanics behind it. For example:

Is DR per account or per character? That is if I am in one area with my Guardian and he reaches DR would my Warrior in the same area also be affected?

Does DR require you take the Guardian in the above example to a different area/map for a period of time to remove DR or could I just do something else on my Warrior for that period of time and then go back to what the Guardian was doing before DR was reached?

Those two questions puzzle me as in my case, and to my perception, DR is gained for the account but removed for the specific character.

My first online game was script based, a game called Gemstone that I played in the early 80s. That game had an anti farm code and if you farmed one type of MoB for too long of a period it would kick in and you had to go elsewhere and kill something else in order to “clear your cache” is how we put it. However the devs did not go around and nerf farming spots or drop ratios because people farmed a particular mob, they had that anti farming code. Why does ANET does or have both is beyond me especially with the recent post on the Southsun boards where they insisted that they are not against farming.

You started off great and then right there in the third paragraph you lost me. TP scripts, uh, yeah, that’s a new one.

Anet does not mind farming. Anet does mind farming that can be taken advantage of to what they see as the economy and community’s detriment. Its that easy.[/quote]

Yes, TP scripts. You can see evidence of this if you post anything on the TP that has a buy price and a sell price with a large gap in between. If you set your sell price slightly lower then what the main buyer/seller of that commodity has his sell price at very quickly that item is bought and resold at the higher price. So for example someone has a buy order for 20 units at 10 silver each. Then you see there is a seller selling 4 units at 30 silver each with nothing in between. Set your sell price at 20 silver, still allowing the buyer to make a profit and your 20 silver piece is quickly purchased as the seller with the 4 units does not want to lose any profit on those 4 units. The buyout of your 20 silver piece happens so quickly at times that there is no way a person going through the TP could find them that fast unless they are running a script that does the looking for them. I have seen this form of trading post buying/selling in almost every game I have played and even tried a version of it in one game long ago but quickly decided that it went too much against the grain and I was no longer working for my coin and it just was not for me. I have no way of proving that people are using TP scripts in GW2 but the signs of them are there.

To those of you who hit 80 in a week...

Theftwind.8976

The wife and I have 6 level 80’s each with another set at 72. We operate as a pair and mix up the adventuring with a bit of crafting, Covering the cities first nets quite a bit of experiance for no real risk or effort. It also gives you a point to port to in each area. Then we hop over to the personal stories and since our character sets are the same race we run as many branches of the story together. (so if I pick option 1 she will pick option 2). Once the storyline moves out of the city it is in we clear the province that it takes us to and then clear the story quest. (including map points and hearts). If the story gets too far ahead of our levels we either clear an extra province or craft our way up to that point.

So as a team with a couple hours a day we can run a set of characters to level 80 in a week.

Some people just do not get it do they? You can farm an area for one hour before DR kicks in and you have to move anyways. Now one hour farming an area or 6, 10 minute runs through COF1. Both are considered farming.

Now consider this point, killing spiders for an hour in a defined area or moving across the map killing spiders. Both again are farming for a resource. Mining nodes across a map area for ore and lumber can be considered farming. Sitting waiting for an hour for Jormag to show up is essentially farming.

However ANET would have people playing the TP with scripts for hours on end. That is farming to the nth degree and to say that people do not use scripts when doing so is burying your head in the sand and looking elsewhere.

Now as someone up above is I am retired as well. I have plenty of time to devote to the game (not quite 3,000 hours yet) and disposable income that on occasion I use to buy gems with. Considering however that I have yet to get a precursor even with flushing a few hundred rare greatswords, a few dozen exotic greatswords, and FARMING dragon chests, etc. it is not that I lack patience it is more that I lack the hope required to believe that somehow, somewhere the rng Gods will smile upon me.

Some people find it easier to run COF1 over and over again in order to get a precursor drop. Myself, I do not like running dungeons and I would rather spend my free time farming for a resource to build greatswords to flush down the Mystic Toilet. In the end it all equates to the same thing. You have a goal in mind and find a way to achieve that goal (with varying degrees of success). Now what makes one way bad and the other good? Why is one way nerfed constantly and the other not?

how are you sure that’s it’s actually been stealth nerfed, as opposed to say, bugged out?

Well the nests used to re-spawn by the time my Guardian made his way around all 4. If I did not stop to take out the Veteran and I was lucky with my crits at times I would have to wait 30-45 seconds before the first one I stomped would spawn back in. Now they do not re-spawn back in and I waited for a good 5-10 minutes although other people can see them and stomp them. Then they have to wait or move on. So it looks more like a nerf then a bug.

The thing is it used to be a good spot to hunt potent venom sacs for one hour until DR kicked in and then I would move on. Why bother have a Diminishing Returns code if they nerf the spawn rate in that area?

I used to hunt spiders in the Maguuma Jungle, just south of Gauntlet Waypoint. There are four spider nests in the area that you could stomp and one veteran spider and his entourage that you could take out in between. The timing was nice because you could make a round of the nests, kill the veteran and then go back to the nests. It was a pleasant place to kill an hour until DR kicked in and by the end of that hour I would usually have 2 rares and enough potent venom sacs to make 4 rare broadswords to flush down the Mystic Toilet. While the better half was making supper I used this area to spend some time in and still come away with the feeling that I accomplished something. Not any more.

Now as much as they state they do not mind farmers the above spot has been nerfed. Now when you stomp the nests they do not respawn and after waiting about 10 minutes or so I gave up in disgust. There was no mention of this change in any of the patch notes and my guess is the change would have happened in the last month.

I am finding that my “fun factor” with this game is rapidly disappearing. Sad but that is just the way I feel.

With the rng I still have a question on what FORM of RNG they are using. If they are using a psuedo-random number generator and if the SEED number is a fixed number and does not change then you will see a repeating pattern of results over time as it is not a true randomization of possible results. (common form of rng for computers) If the pattern of results that the seed attached to your character or account (again we do not know which) returns “x” set of numbers and someone else has their seed return “y” then it is possible that one person could be luckier then the next.

As far as the anti farm code goes that is something else I would like a bit of information on. Is it per account? Per character? Do you have to spend time away with a specific character doing something else or can you do that something else on another character once you hit the point of DR? I use one toon to do my farming for me, he has all the MF gear but at times I have noticed that his DR seems to be “stuck” even if he has not been used in the game for a couple of days.

Answering these questions may satisfy many people that the rng and DR codes are fair across the board.

Swearing in game...

Theftwind.8976

There is a big difference between swearing in real life versus swearing in a computer game. People that are prone to use foul language will involuntarily blurt out offensive words when angered, surprised, etc. and curse aloud at their monitor but to swear in a game with a typed chat interface one has to make a conscious effort to do so. The involuntary part is no longer there.

The filter that is in the game is in every mmo not because the creator of that mmo allows people to curse but because they have to have that protection in place for when people do curse. If for example someone was the object of abusive language they could not hold the company responsible for being subjected to it as the filter is there for them to use. It does not imply or grant anyone the license to use that objective language. It has nothing to do with the constitution.

There is absolutely no reason to swear in an online game and the only excuse I can see would be for those using a voip protocol as you will get the involuntary curse words with voice but it is never involuntary with typed words.

I often kick others for weapon choice as some are objectively bad, but thats another story.

I am puzzled by this one point. What does it matter who places the conditions on a mob? If one person puts 25 stacks on he is not “hogging” the limit for themselves, it is after all for the good of the party. If you have extra condition damage that cannot stack due to the limits then it is wasted damage but in no way can it be blamed on “hogging”.

He has no cooldown on his “pulls” and even with stability my Guardian was being yanked around like a ping pong ball.

Not everyone is adept at these types of dungeon bosses yet it looks like they have set the difficulty at an elite level and they way they set that difficulty is just frustrating to the average player, especially if you do not have the DPS needed for the final phase.

Only 5 crates to show for my many hours in Southsun. At this point it is not the tickets that has me bugged, just let me find the stupid crates. I would estimate that I have put in well over 40 hours in Southsun with a MF of over 300% and well 5 crates in total just does not do anything for me.

Even worse I took one day off from Southsun completely, went and worked on an alt for the day and the next day in 2 hours of farming with a three hour break doing other things in between each hour, I found a grand total of 0 crates.

Makes a person wonder though. The code was somehow changed so was someone messing where they shouldn’t have been messing? Were they thinking of making a change on that section of code under the radar and got caught? How did that particular section of code get changed? A group of code ninjas, trying to corner the ecto market infiltrated the office in the wee hours of the morning and swapped a few numbers?

Oh but we could start some conspiracy theories now! <insert evil grin>
