Actually, because rezzing is part of the lore they could very well be clockwork creations with illusions on them, and fighting them is what people come to do…to hone their skills for fighting the real things in the wild.

We’ve seen other places were people “die” during contests. They just rez. It’s part of the lore.

What bothers me is when characters die in the story and they can’t be rezzed. That should be explained somehow.

So that begets this question. Why create a self repairing, self rezzing, self replicating mechanical mob capable of taking on any shape or disguise? Is the Queen really flesh and blood or has she been replaced by a clockwork machine? Since they have run amok would not the total annihilation of anything and everything clockwork be paramount at this point in time? Yet we are now finding recipes so everyone can make things that are clockwork in design. It sort of reminds me of the clone wars in Star Wars.

I have to agree with the OP on a few points. Consider lore for example and the Crown Pavilion. Are all those mobs really just clockwork mobs resembling centaurs, ogres, etc.? If they are all just clockwork soldiers run amok then why would a benevolent Queen keep manufacturing them and tossing them into the Pavilion to kill her subjects? If they are actual Mobs what kind of cruel monarch would go out and capture centaurs and ogres just to toss them into an arena and see which side can survive the longest? The ogres are especially perplexing in that case because in your personal story you go out to get the ogres as allies in the fight against Zhaitan. So once the dragon is dead the Queen sees fit to toss the ogres into a arena to die?

Although the Pavilion makes a perfect farming spot for those who like farming at least in the open world a farming spot would have some sort of reasonable logic behind it. Sadly there is no logic behind this continuous respawn, multiple champion area.

A very bad idea that just would not work. Let us say you were in “explorer” mode and able to walk through any gate. That would be a perfect way to relay siege placements, the number of defenders, etc. to someone via whisper that is trying to capture that objective. We have enough problems with people with multiple accounts placing spies on the server and either siege locking an area or destroying golems, we do not have to give them free rein to do that spying!

Commander Tags [Merged]

in WvW

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

Private tags are one thing but I would like to see different colors/ranks for Commanders tags earned with the following method.

New Commander – buys his book for 100 gold gets a blue tag and the same size squad he currently enjoys.

After that point in time Commanders will start to gain ranks by how many people they successfully lead through the capture of an objective. So Commander “Bob” and his squad take SM Castle then a percentage of the total WXP that his squad gains is applied to his Commander rank. Once he gains enough rank points he can progress to a different color of tag and more abilities such as a larger squad, etc. This also will separate WvW Commanders from PvE Commanders.

In this way good Commanders, who know what they are doing and who can lead people without ticking them off will rise up through the ranks. Commanders that do not have a clue on what WvW is about or who constantly berate the enlisted ranks will find that nobody wants to join them and thus they will not get the WXP percentage points required to move them up in rank.

After all that a simple switch for private/public can be added to the tag so if you seen a Commander tag with an X or other symbol on the tag it is a private tag and the Commander would have to approve requests to join. (or find some method to automate it)

1600 Rare Greatsword into the Mystic Forge

in Crafting

Theftwind.8976

After what the OP posted, you’re still gonna defend Arena.Net???

The guy wants his legendary weapon. Apparently that in this game, going on an epic adventure to build your legendary weapon = standing in front of the mystic forge and dumping items.

kittening Legendary.

Wasn’t the cost of all those GS’s pretty close to the cost of just buying the thing out of the TP?
Why waste all that coin gambling when you can just buy it off some someone else who got lucky? I don’t understand why anyone would have the coin to do this, choose to gamble it away, then nerdrage when the gamble doesnt pay off, when the item could’ve been straight out purchased.

Because if the OP is like me I will forge and dump greatswords into the toilet when I have the materials to create them. I do not have nor I doubt I will ever have the gold in hand to buy a precursor outright. That amount of gold has to be up front, there is no credit card or layaway plan. Over time I have dumped more then enough rare and exotic greatswords into that toilet to buy a precursor IF I had saved up all my mats and created and sold those swords all at once. It is a personal decison on how I want to play the game and comes with its own reasons why I made that decision.

ANET has never detailed exactly what type of RNG they use. Is it a true rng? Is it a pseudo rng? Does it use a fixed or a variable seed number? The answers to those questions would determine why some people, like the OP, can dump thousands of items into the toilet and get nothing while others will get 2 or more precursors. If they are using a pseudo rng with a fixed seed then the results over time repeat themselves, as it is not a true rng. Therefore person “A” could very well have a set of repeating numbers that are “luckier” then person “B’s”.

So the question remains how random is the random number generator?

It is faster but mobility plays a large role here. Against a Ranger using a longbow at under 500 range and both the Ranger and the Guardian spamming the number one button the Ranger will invariably win. At that range the Guardian should be doing more damage (394 versus 302) but such is not the case as the arrows will hit more often then the orb due to the higher mobility of the Ranger versus the Guardian. Chains of Light or scepter 3 would help this issue but more often then not mobs and enemies just continue moving when “Chains” is applied.

They synergies with other classes can be easily balanced but a thief/chrono pair would be a nightmare.

Never could understand why people are hung up on capes. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion although it may be shared by others, capes make your character look like a ’tween. I never showed a cape in GW1 as it just looked dorky. In truth the only super hero that actually made a cape work was Batman and the majority of comic book super heroes did not wear capes. Only a handful did. Superman to me would have been better off without a cape….. well he would have been better off with a completely different look as those red underpants are an eyesore.

I suppose the real issue here is Batman’s cape actually was functional and served a purpose to make him more sinister looking. The cape on Robin actually makes him look like he is stuck as a junior sidekick forever, it makes him look younger than he is. Capes on Superman, Thor and others served no true purpose and in most cases would not have been missed if the original episode of that particular hero had no cape.

I have been trying to put a finger on what is missing in the game and why I find myself playing less and less. I currently have a level 80 in each class, a total of 8 and since my last one max’d out I have had this nagging feeling that the game is going nowhere.

So I started looking for a reason. The LS as the OP mentioned is getting stale. Visit each province to either find something or kill something so in the end you can get a doll for a reward. Your actions do little to effect a change, come back tomorrow and you can visit all those places again.

Just make sure you visit them all in the 2 weeks allotted to each segment of the story because miraculously in a defined time period that fight will be over and whether you yourself won or lost or even participated does not change the greater picture in the least bit. It is all becoming a bit too “contrived” or as they say in the writing business “deux ex machina”. There is no plot line to these living stories other than killing “x” and collecting “y” and poof the problem is fixed and we celebrate again!

So why does this bother me? Well for a game that was supposed to be less about the grind and more about the fight we are left with little to do but grind post 80. Grind for your legendary, grind for your 1 million Yaks in WvW, grind for your 100 kills or “x” amount of tokens/scraps/pieces of paper so you can get another “unique” skin, grind for 50 ectos and the laurels required for one piece of ascended gear.

The dragons have been forgotten. Zhaitan was defeated so what is controlling all those minions in Orr? Where are the other elder dragons? There is no gear progression nor is there any level progression once you hit level 80 so the best one could hope for is to progress the fight against the dragons. Then I realized what I am missing in the game which is the sense of actually accomplishing something now that my toons are all level 80 by getting back to the main story and not some “God in a box” living story plot contrivances put in to keep people interested.

I will not be quitting although I am seriously looking at Skyrim and perhaps going back to LoTRo when the next expansion arrives this fall. At least in LoTRo you follow a storyline and things continually push towards Mordor. Here in GW2 we defeated Zhaitan and now we celebrate and celebrate and celebrate and every celebration is broken up by some bad boys (or girls) we go out and spank them and rinse and repeat.

Gendarran
Harathi

Theftwind.8976

actually that’s not at all what he was saying. prior to today, the tokens had no value at all other than to be put into a box to show your support. those of you who did not do that are now being rewarded with gold, while the people who spent gold to buy tokens to plug into the box got double kittened. these people did buy the tokens willingly, so they can’t complain about the gold spent on the tokens, but why in the world would anet, then after the fact, reward people who didn’t use their tokens for their only useful purpose?

I agree with you on that point. ANET did not play fair or rather they did not lay out all the options/outcomes clearly enough. What I take exception to and the only point about this whole topic that I object to, is saying that just because someone did not use all the tokens they found/purchased in the ballot boxes that they did not participate in the event. People participated, they just did not all participate in the way that many believed was the way it had to be done.

That the tokens gained value after the fact has no bearing whatsoever on whether people participated or not. It is a completely different issue from participating in the event.

oo Lets resort to personal insults to prove I’m right . Oh dear

Not insulting you at all. Just pointing out the absurdity of your statement that just because I did not plug all of my tokens into the box that somehow I did not participate in the story line. Nowhere in the story line did it state that you had to vote as many times as possible for the candidate of your choice. You voted enough times to get the buttons you required to complete the achievements by “representing” the candidate of your choice in your travels through Tyria.

If you are that sure that the story line was all about plugging a ballot box 500 times then I think you missed the story line!

Edited to add: If you were correct in your assumption that you had to plug ALL your tokens into a ballot box then by your way of thinking someone who only collected 10 tokens and put them all in did not participate as much as someone who collected 1000 and put them all in even though both people put all their tokens into a box. Or to put it another way if I collected 100 tokens and put them all in and you had 1000 and only put in 500 who participated more?

I have it on good knowledge that you would rather “fill out silly forms than play the game” … if you care about the candidate and what they represent you would use all your votes to give them a better chance of winning … so no you did not participate.

Oh and you did participate because you:

[x] were gullible enough to plug all your tokens into a ballot box believing you would get a larger reward

Yep. Where I come from you are allowed to vote only once for the candidate of your choice. It went against the grain to even vote the ten times that I did but I needed the rep buttons.

So yes I did participate and yes I got the achievements done.

So I decided to run my newly leveled 80 mesmer all the way to Orr in order to open up the waypoints and get an exotic backpiece. This was on the HoD server. Now I had to run him through Sparkfly Fen, Straits of Devastation, Malchor’s Leap and finally the Cursed Shore. I managed to open the waypoints at all the temples but one thing bothered me. Throughout that whole trip I saw only 3 other people. No events were being run, no temples open and every waypoint that could be contested was contested.

Even just a month ago when my last level 80 made the trip the place was at least slightly occupied. Now it seems that the only large groups you find are standing around in LA, in WvW or moving between events in Queensdale and all the lower level areas. Orr is a, pardon the pun, Ghostland!

So question. Is it like this on other servers?

I wasn’t there so I didn’t see the map chat, but they may very well have told them to stop and/or reported them. All I can say is I certainly hope that was the case.

Point is, as a server, AR doesn’t cheat, and we don’t tolerate those who do, whether they be on our server or other servers. We report them and let Anet deal with them. If we had a way of directly dealing with them, we most certainly would.

I know this is mainly due to a bug in the game and last matchup I also took screens of someone doing the exact same thing. However that person happened to be wearing an ANET logo and was fully aware that he was inside because of a glitch and immediately left the tower without attacking anyone or anything inside.

So I hesitate to report people for a problem that is based on a bug and only posted it here, not to paint a whole server in a bad light, but in the hopes that someone in that group of 20+ waiting for the siege to be taken out would have said something to those inside. If it was me on the outside I would have made a strong point against the use of an exploit and after making a report I would have walked away from capturing that tower. What saddened me is 20+ people did not.

I thought Anvil Rock had a bit of class but when you have to resort to a known exploit in order to take out siege I have changed my mind. The thief in this picture came into the tower, before the gate was down, with only 2 defenders, and proceeded to destroy all the siege. He was followed shortly by another thief.

How sad. Oh Smile, you are on exploit camera!

As people constantly tell me, I will tell you: saying kitten like “AR is bad because 2 thieves used an exploit” is just silly. No way can we control the actions of TWO players. ProTip: REPORT THEM! I would if I saw them. We do NOT condone the use of any cheats or exploits at all, and will report anyone using them, regardless of what server they are on. Cheats and exploits totally suck and anything we can do to stop players from using them is a big plus (’cause lets face it, the game has a LOT of bugs so there will always be exploits out there, so the most we can do is encourage people to not use them via the threat of being banned, which is a pretty big deterrent).

Now, if you saw 20, 30, 40 people do this, like what was happening during the spawn camping BS (which has pretty much stopped, to TY all for that), then go ahead and brand the entire server as kittenheads. But TWO?!?! Sheesh. Just report them and move on.

But the thing is the 20 plus people OUTSIDE the tower knew full well how the arrow carts inside the tower were being taken out. They could SEE their people on top of the wall taking out the arrow carts. Just because they did not enter the tower in the same way as the thieves did they did manage to capture that tower thanks to an exploit. Does that not make them complicit?

Now since some of our guys were in the NE camp he could not run there for safety so he proceeded to run all the way to the North camp in order to catch up to the zerg.

I always roam. In fact I take back all those camps you send 10+ to capture but I do it solo. I have yet to see a solo roamer in our BL that will stand and fight against me, they will run until their reinforcements arrive.

Please don’t tell me your idea of solo roaming is soloing camps

I have to do something while wandering around trying to catch chicken little DRs that seem to know only how to run away or run in groups of 10+. As a Guardian one thief will very seldom put me down and on occasion I have had all 4 focus on me to get me out of the way because spamming #1 with the staff tends to hurt them. With the wifes necro dropping wells and marks it only takes one or two more and those four thieves are looking for greener pastures or pushing up daisies as a part of the pasture.

Are you intent on moving out into the enemy borderlands and capturing something or do you WANT to stay at your spawn, farming those that foolishly come too close to the Legendary defenders? If you are there to farm then I will in turn farm you. I have seen enemies gathered on the rock outside the SW tower that have no intention of taking the tower, even with only one defender inside yet they will kill the dolyaks and anyone running by solo. If a larger force comes by they quickly run back to their spawn.

I could swear I heard one mournfully singing that song from ZZ Top, " just looking for some Tush" the other day. It was heartbreaking.

Pity the Tyrian moose. To help these poor creatures please send your generous donations to me on HoD.

Hint: Moose cows do not have antlers

perhaps if there are new areas where we can hire them, only there in areas 80+,like southsun cove and islands like that.
we could unlock some by jp,karma,AP or even buy some in TP,and could in a simple way gear them, and they would lvl ranks, like defense, ranged and so on..but i dont think it will happen tho

Buy companions from the TP? Slavery has been outlawed in most civilized countries for a long time!

Remove Support Ticket from Wooden Chest

Do those support tickets tickets remove or lower your chance at a rare or are they taking the place of rares? That is the question I would like answered as since these events began the rares I loot from those chests has dropped dramatically. In fact, the only rares I have gotten in the past two weeks have been from meta events such as Jormag and that was from the guaranteed chest.

How about nerfing the OP hills?

What gets me about cliffs is that they are quite selective in whom they target for destruction and do not seem to want to play fair at all. Compare my Guardian, Necromancer and Warrior going over the same cliff. The Necro has a far larger health pool and suffers the most total damage. The Warrior comes in second, not because he is wearing heavy armor as is the Guardian but he has a larger health pool then the Guardian.

So that little test leads me to believe that cliffs have some sort of underlying intelligence and are able to determine who has the highest health and deduct accordingly. Two similar sized heavy armor users, falling at the same rate for the same distance should in theory suffer the same amount of total damage when they arrive at that abrupt ending. That is physics.

So cliffs are definitely using some form of hack to determine the size of the health pool for the person they are attempting to destroy.

We shouldn't lose bloodlust stacks when

Theftwind.8976

As Blix stated above. They are but fractions of one map.

Also consider that it would be easy to get my stacks up in my own BL where everything is one color and quite safe and then move to an enemy BL where everything is the opposite color and definitely not safe.

any class cannot solo supply camps easily?

in WvW

Theftwind.8976

I use my Guardian to solo camps, have not even bothered trying it with my other classes. The easiest camp to solo is the northeast one. Pull everything except the super, drop a wall of reflection and call up the hounds of Balthazar and the rest of the mobs go down easily. Do not forget stability for the dolyaks! Once you learn from where and how to pull on each camp it is not difficult for a Guardian at all.

Edit: On the ne camp, I can usually have it capped just after the swords appear. Have yet to do it before.

I was fighting in a camp once and found myself under the map in a large sea. I did explore for awhile but could not hit anything on the other side without getting the “obstructed” message. In fact swimming in the “sea” up to the lake was weird. I could see the krait directly ahead of me but could not do anything to them. I finally ported out out of boredom.

Which WvW Roaming Class?

in WvW

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

If your friend is a thief then I suggest Guardian. I roam solo with my Guardian quite a bit but I am usually capping camps/sentries/quaggans or going to places that are contested. I can easily handle a camp if I do things properly but it is a cakewalk if a thief is with you. As a Guardian you will pull all the aggro due to your higher armor class while the thief can just get behind the group and backstab to his heart’s delight.

Enter a camp and if righteous indignation is off get close enough to draw aggro, use binding blade, symbol of wrath, pull; drop a wall of reflection for those op scouts and then whirling wrath. Your thief friend meanwhile gets in behind and finishes them all off. If you work well as a team that camp is yours in a minute!

Negative Commanders

Theftwind.8976

A ton of zerging noobs with no clue how to command would have the tag then.
And they would never turn it off because they want ‘levels’.
So the map would be filled with lvl farmers screaming to follow them because they are the bestest.

You did not read completely. If nobody joins a Commanders group they will remain as an entry level Commander, easily recognized as somebody not to follow. If you like the Commander, join his/her squad so they can garner points to level up their Commander tag.

Rallying in WVW is too over the top

Theftwind.8976

I am in agreement with most, the downed state should be removed in WvW. As I tend to roam a lot solo to recap camps, etc. it is frustrating to have a camp almost capped and three or four enemy rush in to ninja it. Many times I could handle those three or four but not when they rally while I am fighting the others as I cannot spare the time to stomp the downed players.

The mechanic does not reward the better player, it rewards the larger group.

Negative Commanders

I could I suppose grind up some gold for a Commander tag and quite a few people on my server have even offered to assist me in that endeavor. However with the way the Commander tags are bought now I do not have the desire to get one.

What ruined the Commander thing is that it is just not WvW’centric. It can be and is used outside of WvW for squads, etc. I wish they would make a version of the tag for WvW only and use the following parameters to earn one.

1) It is purchased with badges only.

2) You cannot purchase one if you do not have certain thresholds met in WvW such kitten many towers captured, so many towers defended, so many pieces of siege built, etc. They already track all of that stuff anyways. (okay interesting on the inserted kitten)

3) Once purchased you start as a low level Commander, able to lead a small squad, and given a certain color for your tag. As you are successful in leading groups with your tag on and using again the parameters above, you will gain Commander ranks. Each rank allows such things as larger squad and other possibilities.

If you are still lousy as a Commander and people refuse to join your squad you do not gain those necessary points to advance your Commander rank. A Commander that switches servers drops to the lowest Commander ranking until he garners enough points to advance.

In that manner a Commander tag for WvW has to be earned both from being involved heavily in WvW and also but earning the respect of your fellow players.

ANET Fix Your Towers

in WvW

Posted by: Theftwind.8976

Theftwind.8976

It is time to throw a bit of oil on these troubled waters. When I posted the screens I had no idea that I had caught the nefarious Hugh Norfolk but I will attest to the fact that

A) He did glitch through the gate twice (both those screens of him were separate events)

B) He showed class in that he did not attack me but headed straight up the stairs to jump back out of the tower

So perhaps a little benefit of doubt is warranted here. First attempt was an “Aha! This is what they are talking about!” and the second was “Yep, that is how it is done!” sort of thing. All the politics and back and forth bickering are going to do nothing to help fix things and I am content that at least now this issue is now centered on their radar. They could probably fix it by closing that little hole between the gate and the gate frame.

Now a message for Hugh himself. Why do you waste your time on a server that needs 30+ people to take a tower manned by one lonely defender? Come on over to HoD and we will show you what real fighters can do. That bunch you are hanging out with is nothing more than a mindless “zerg” automaton; just think of all the trouble they just got you in! I mean they pushed you through the gate and tossed you under the bus. How can you trust such evil people?
