I voted to keep it. I’m glad I did. It’s refreshing rediscovering things. No more autopilot for me.

But naysayers always gonna naysay. If not about this, then about pop imbalances, or elite specs, or skills that are overpowered… until they are playing pong again. All the while I’ll just enjoy having fun in the game and get used to this terrain. Can things be improved, sure … doesn’t mean I’m going to boycott things. I’m enjoying the map.

Funny, the Pong reference has been going through my head over and over listening to the remove elites/siege/DBL/everything on all the maps people.

I don’t really get the population imbalance reference for it though.

This was a majority vote to have and keep BOTH maps still in play. I prefer DBL and don’t like Alpine as much, I still played on it thou.
So who voted for it? A majority of the GW2 WvW population.

Who voted for DBL?
All the pvers, pvers who only play wvw on friday night, with the only hope for profitable karma train.

But i’m sure, you are very much aware what i am talking about.

I voted for DBL. I was a serious critic of it when it first came out, but after the changes, which I got to experience because I kept playing the game, I liked it.

I play WvW pretty much every day and have for years. Of all the days I play, Friday is the day I least want to play because I hate reset.

Do pants not exist in Tyria?

I think when they decided to have 3 armour weights part of the reasoning was they wanted them to be distinctive, so you could always tell what kind of character you were fighting (at least generally) by looking at them.

Of course that went out the window with outfits being added, so it’s not really relevant any more. But they haven’t created many armour sets since then.

I’m really hoping the next expansion is going to include some more varied armor, like trousers for light armoured characters, less long coats for medium and…I don’t really know what I want for heavy, other than something a little bit feminine my asura can wear. (The carapace shoulder with the butterfly would be perfect, but she gets the male version.)

(BTW am I the only British-English speaker who always finds these topics a bit amusing? Over here pants is short for underpants, so I get this image of warriors running around in their boxer shorts.)

Actually not wanting to show skin in battle when you do not have to is feminist? The whole point of heavy armor classes is to be essentially tanks. Excuse me, I thought it was just common sense, the mi-a1 Abrams does not come in a soft-top model!

I would guess guys would have a different opinion if they were forced to fight monsters without something covering their groins!

I’d probably have the same opinion, since women in skimpy outfits would increase the armor rating of my otherwise unprotected groin.

However, the general tank MMO meaning is out of context in this particular game, in which the heavy armor characters function more like actual tanks than the tanks in other MMOs.

There is an aggro mechanic in GW2 by which a tougher character may hold aggro.

Not as reliable as in other MMOs, but it is there.

And heavy armor characters in GW2 still function more like actual tanks than tanks which are typical of other MMOs.

Might I politely suggest that you adjust your perception of what a tank is to be something more in line with the rest of us?

Why would I adjust my knowledge of what a tank is to match an inaccurate perception based upon a poorly named gaming mechanic that outlived it’s usefulness?

Some servers use spies a lot… It’s all part of the game and can make it more satisfying when you beat them anyway- especially when you beat a guild that transferred off with a group of pugs:-)

I think to promote fights enemy locations should be revealed on the map whenever they get close to anything you own or if one of your players is within sight of them, which would make it much more realistic.

Spying through alt accounts is as much a part of the game as stacking for advantage. It is gaining an unfair advantage outside of the game itself. It is cheating.

Removing what little fog of war there is in the game wouldn’t make it more realistic.

“2) Create a ranking system: I have not fully developed the criteria yet, as just thought about this, but Anet could easily track captures, upgrades, and kills. Top guilds in the server in the different categories can get a special reward (haven’t thought about what this could be yet). "

This seems awful to me, primarily because it looks like another “big guild benefit” which isn’t needed, as big guilds have such a great advantage in the guild system now because of guild halls. There is no need to make being in a smaller guild less desirable because of another reward that in reality is related to size.

What if you make it by tiers just like there is in pvp? For example, Gold league is for guild that have over 300+ Members, Silver for Guilds that have 150-300, and Bronze for smaller guilds, all getting the same rewards. Basically this is to promote guilds to go run out in WvW. Lets be honest, most guilds over 300 members are pve guilds and are terrible at WvW or don’t do it at all outside of of 10 members. I know guilds with 200+ members and the most they raid is 3 times a week, with a max of 25 members on at a time.

150 isn’t a small guild… those numbers are far and away from small guilds which are running 5-15 most of the time and actually cleaning their roster of people who don’t play. It also makes it much harder to start a guild (on top of the issue of people having already invested in a guild hall problem).

Guild Achievements/Stats

in WvW

I don’t see a problem with the scoreboard aspect. But the stats look like cumulative things where size is the biggest factor. So more of a mechanical advantage for large guilds over smaller guilds shouldn’t be added by giving awards for score.

1) Gliding is almost everywhere in PvE, but not in WvW or PvP (except the lobby). The new zones dont feel like the old zones to me. They feel like the meta event was designed and the rest tacked on over it. So it feels less like a crpg to me.
2) The specializations are a big change.
3) Better IMO.
4) Depending on where you were in fractals, it can be good or bad – the loot feels clustered in 76-100 now. You can also raid.
5) Farming events, currently The Auric Basin meta, which if you haven’t done will be more interesting than boss events, at least for a while.

Builds? Pfff I fight any builds.

What I dislike is fighting against that certain type of roamer that will happily and confidently go 1v1, yet at the first sign of loosing he is off like a rat on fire, presumably to save his 25 stacks or something. Or even worse, those that do the same in a small skirmish and abandons their mates.

Respect for those that stand and fight to the death even when their class/build could have let them escape.

There should be a voice line like, “Guys? Guys?” to let you know the guys you were fighting with suddenly and silently ran away. The second most frustrating thing people on your team can do after, back in the day, doing CoF with four Warriors and hearing rifle fire from behind you…

Being able to get 60 puggers on your tag does not make you a good commander. Being able to roll over 30-man guild groups with your 60 puggers, also does not make you a good commander. Would you consider dropping open field ACs when the enemy comes in view to be “good commanding.”

None of that has anything to with comps. Nice job lining up three strawmen in the open field. Maybe you can knock them down with your open field ACs…

Anyone who mains ranger in wvw and considers themselves “good” at zerging, should try playing a real wvw class (GREN) and see what they have been missing. If you are good on a ranger, you’ll probably be great on an ele or necro.

I’m guessing you play warrior or guardian. Spam 111111. Alot of skill needed lol.

But as a ranger player this guy is right. I have switched to ele after ranger/druid became something dislikeable. And now there are zergs and comms inviting me to their guilds, havocs offering to hang together. My life became so much easier. Now I will try a revenant and see if it becomes better.

You shouldn’t have to change your class that you love to play for a pug commander. The only reason why you would run g,r,e or n is if your in a gvg group. It sounds like you need to change to a better server where the pug commaders let you run whatever class you want. It’s only guild group commanders that ask you to run certain classes. Rangers also give shared precision so bonus.

You don’t have to switch classes for anyone. Play your stupid ranger for all I care. Any fool with a tag can lead an angry mob. Just don’t whine when decent commanders who care about composition kick you for not playing a real class.

I’ll see your 150 precision and raise you spammable rite of the great dwarf and resistance.

Plenty of not only decent, but kitten good commanders don’t force comps on people who play with them. A commander’s willingness to play without the perfect group composition has no bearing on their skill level. If anything, being able to adapt to the composition they have takes more skill than only being able to function if they have a specific comp.

Mount Idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Thelgar.7214

Thelgar.7214

- Remove all 33% swiftness boons and 25% traits from the game.
- Being on a mount gives 33% speed boost.
- Being attacked on a mount give you a “knocked off” debuff knocking you down for 2s (cannot be avoided by traits or skills) and crippling you for 10s (cannot be cleansed), while disabling the mount. This is to encourage getting off your mount before combat.
- A mount cannot be enabled in combat.

Done deal. We got mounts with current size limitations and as an extra bonus we have people running at normal speeds instead of perma swiftness/25% being required and meta. Movement in WvW for example would become a whole lot interesting, bringing in a risk/reward aspect.

The removal of in-combat swiftness and speed would imbalance ranged vs melee combat.

The removal of the speed buff OOC would make it take 25-33 percent longer for a player to get from one place to another without a mount and with a mount, they’d die to pretty much anyone who attacked them on the way because of the penalties for being attacked while using the mount.

This would basically trash the combat system and make WvW a tedious frustration for no purpose.

Read from there for my view of DH

I had an alt on DH a little over a year ago when it was T4 or T5 or so. What you’re describing needs to be done is completely different than what existed then.

When I was there, HART was a main WvW guild. I could always jump in and find someone to play with, even as an up level. People grouped organically or followed any tag that popped up. The community was fun and friendly.

People played what they wanted and there wasn’t any toxicity in the map chat or party chats.

Darkhaven won against even matches and lost against blobbier severs. Especially during the time YB was stacked by people from T1.

I know there was a push up, but my understanding was that involved guilds that moved in – most of which have now left.

I don’t know that the core population of Darkhaven would respond to trying to make it an organized, T1 style, server.

I think the solution is leaving some servers out of the linkings rather than trying to force them all into a T1 play style.

If they had been producing content instead of fixing everything they broke with the release of HoT, they might still have players left to actually buy gems.

Wait. People are actually unhappy that they fixed things? Really?

No, they shouldn’t have broken them in the first place, but once you do, you can’t change time — you can only spend the time it takes to fix things.

You can also spend money. Anet had two ways to go to fix things. They could have used existing staff levels and fixed things while not producing content or increased staff levels and done both.

Doing the first saved them money in the short run. It may have cost them money in the long run. If they had done the second, it would have cost them money in the short run, but may have made them more money in the long run. As things look now, on the limited information available, it appears they made a bad choice.

I’m sure this will get merged into the gem store request thread, but it really doesn’t seem to make sense for these to be a limited time item. There is going to be a constant demand for white (and) black wings. Limiting oddball things like macaw wings makes sense – it gets sales from people who don’t want or have a use for them but don’t want to be stuck later if they decide they do. But white or black wings seem like they’d sell constantly at a level that would outperform a spike in a week’s time…

Rushing another expansion? How, given the way Anet’s staffing has been described, can they deliver a complete, content-rich, expansion if they rush it? Another HoT-level incomplete, content-poor, expansion and they’re going to prove the “the game is dying” folks right.

Dislike Generally: complaining about builds being both tanky and damaging when tankiness is just a way of dealing with damage like stealth, evading attacks, attacking from range, etc. Griping about warrior builds doing damage while being tanky is like complaining that elementalists can do damage from range or that thieves can do damage and stealth. It is nonsensical.

Is it? I’m not convinced. Perhaps all classes should have access to all forms of stealth/self-water+blast/blinks/range/clones/portal/etc, but via class-unique mechanics.

A uni-class concept with mechanics separated from themes? Kind of like Champions pen-and-paper RPG Is really interesting. But not equivalent to wanting to limit one class in multiple class system from having damage capability because it, like the other classes has a defensive mechanism.

Why I feel guild representation is not a good idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Thelgar.7214

If you don’t like people representing more than one guild, kick the people in your guild that do it. No need to take the option from anyone else. I’ve had multiple guilds, PvE, WvW havok, WvW Fight, WvW Zerg, and Bank without an issue. The only issue I ever had was when I was in a mandatory rep guild while using my bank guild (which was allowed by the guild rules) with an overzealous officer. So as far as “what works” I prefer repping multiple guilds.

They may be OK in small skirmishes, but WVW is primarily a mass combat game mode, small stuff is secondary, ternary or even below that in priorities, hence so are any players who build themselves around that.

Bobbers and blob commanders are much more fungible than havokers, havok commanders and roamers whose individual skill is much more determinative on the outcome of an engagement. I place much more value on a player that havoks or roams than I do a generiblobber.

Not that mass combat isn’t part of the game, but the exaggerated importance of blob combat in comparison to the other phases of the game mode is propaganda from blob commanders seeking to make themselves more important.

Don’t get me wrong, it can be fun, I sometimes hop on my mes or engi to roam or havoc a bit, but that is just no where near as fun as organized and semi-organized large scale fights.

Large scale fights are tedious compared to the excitement of havok sized skirmishes. But that is a personal preference, I’m not stating it as a fact.
