You and Trahearne go on a quest for a precursor of your choice together. You fight for hours while Trahearne stands near the entrance. At the end, when you walk over and loot the precursor, a cut scene appears and your character hands the precursor to Trahearne and says, “Here, you deserve this more than I do.”

While I don’t think achievement items should be tradeable, I think past living story achievements and their rewards should be attainable via instancing. Disposing of content rather than letting new players play it and having the signature items from that content limited to people who happened to have been there and had time at that point in time to play it is both arbitrarily restrictive and a waste of resources.

Thelgar.7214

I’ll ask again, and explain more bout my motives for asking.
’Can I ask a question to those who liked the old flamekissed armor??
What would you find a fair solution?
And do not say, to keep the old skin. ’

I see so many people being digged in for this ‘war’. The simple fact is that Anet decided to do this months ago. They didn’t change their position ever since then and it sure doesn’t look like they are going to change it now.

So wether you like it or not. You won’t get the old skin back (atleast not cause you paid with gems). I don’t mind. I personally find the T3 armor ugly. I found the old flamekissed skin ugly. So I don’t care at all. I’m an outsider in this discussion. The reason I am reacting is that I see so many people wasting energy on something that is clearly not going to change.

That is why I’m asking you to use that energy in a positive way. Instead of digging deeper in, how do you think this could be solved in a way that would be (somewhat) sattisfying for you. Use this energy to find a solution instead of digging deeper into the bunkers, while nothing is going to change in the end. In my previous post I think I gave a good start of what I think would be a solution

Your solution rubs salt in the wounds of some of the people the original flamekissed armor was taken away from by making it available to the very people who caused it to be taken from them (and who have given some the impression they are gloating about it). It would stir up too many negative emotions.

The people who had characters of non-human races didn’t want the original flamekissed armor because it was cultural armor. They wanted it because of how it looked on their character. A lot of that has to do with skin coverage for the sylvari and norn allowing it to show and synergize with their tattoos and glows as well as hair and hairstyles. Just slapping flame effects on other races T3 armors isn’t going to result in an armor that replaces what those players lost.

That is why it was so important for ArenaNet to go all in on trying to make the replacement armor be a suitable replacement in terms of functionality and quality. And that is why it is important that if they aren’t bringing back the original armor, and they aren’t going to do a complete redesign, they should take another look at the the new flamekissed armor to make sure it is the best it can be.

Thelgar.7214

Can I ask a question to those who liked the old flamekissed armor??
What would you find a fair solution?

The ship on “fair” sailed when they decided to completely ignore one segment of the population in their decision to take the armor away from people who bought it to appease another group of people. And it sank when they continued to ignore the people they took the armor away from during the development of the “really nice” armor with “new art” (bolding theirs) that they said they were going to replace it with.

But, to ease some of the resentment at having done so they could:

1) Acknowledge that the people who are disgruntled have a reason to be so.
2) Apologize.
3) Ensure that they compensate those that were affected for collateral losses that the change caused whether they keep the armor or not.
4) Engage in a dialogue regarding attributes of the replacement armor such as:
- the effectless gem in the center of the headpiece
- the shoulder piece clipping/placement issue reported by norn players (which may be an issue for sylvari as well)
- the pink effect on the knees of the boots that doesn’t seem to match the other effects on the armor and looks like the effects on the Bloody Prince Staff, Modnir Quarterstaff and Eye of Rodgort
- the bottom fringe of the chest piece that, on female humans and sylvari at least, doesn’t appear to have been re-skinned and dyes differently than the rest of the piece, looking especially brown with dark red dyes.
- They don’t need to jump on these like a set of commands, but at least talk to us about these kinds of things and give the armor another QA pass or two to make the best of it.

I’m keeping it because there isn’t a better replacement for it for a fire themed sylvari elementalist and probably won’t ever be. But it is a clear downgrade over what it was. So it doesn’t seem unreasonable that they at least try to lessen that downgrade as much as possible. They make changes to armor and other items to address issues and improve them all the time.

And do not say, to keep the old skin. This was griefing many players who bought t3 cultural armor so thats not an option.

The reason I’m asking is that it is in my opinion time to stop crying over something that’s not going to change, but to think of solutions that might give Anet idea’s.

There is no reason to dictate what is or isn’t an option. If people think keeping the old one is the fair solution, they have a right to express that. And there is no reason to characterize their legitimate complaints as “crying.” It is an attack and doesn’t encourage a reasonable response. Whether it changes or not, people affected should express clearly how they feel about it.

There were plenty of people that purchased it that agreed that it should not have been a t3 reskin.

There are plenty of people that do like the reskin. More who have since purchased it because they like the reskin better….

Conversely there are those that liked neither. Those that didn’t really mind the t3 reskin. Those that didn’t bother buying either.

They cannot please everyone. You don’t like the reskin. Fine, that’s your right.

Even if the assertion that “plenty” like the new armor and there are “more” who have purchased it is accurate, it doesn’t change the fact that ArenaNet took one side in an argument between two parties in the player base, giving one side everything they wanted while showing no acknowledgement of or concern for the desires or feelings of the other side.

They didn’t even apologize to the people who bought and liked the original armor and wanted to keep it. The resentment some people are feeling right now is justified. They haven’t just had something they bought taken away from them, they’ve been treated like they are second-class people throughout the process.

Let me try to explain this from a different perspective…

If a gunmaker IRL were to produce a fully functional firearm with a big red heart on the barrel, and then began advertising it a couple of weeks before Valentine’s Day, what kind of message would that send? Would that product simply be viewed as cute and inoffensive? Would people be lining up to buy them because they looked cool, or possibly to give as gifts to their loved ones? Perhaps I’m in the minority for thinking this way, but I suspect the gunmaker would instead be publicly reprimanded for marketing such a product.

Manufacturers make guns in pink and there are all kinds of cutesy gun parts available that are decorated with hello kitty, hearts, or whatever. Google pink gun, pink handgun, gun with hearts, etc. There doesn’t seem to be much uproar about it other than from people that have an issue with guns in general. From reports, they seem to be growing in popularity.

Well, this is the best I’ve been able to do to try and get things back to where they were. Top 4 are Abyss and the bottom two are Midnight Fire for anyone thinking of using those dyes.

The starter flame eye, while a step down from the old gem/mask, is better than than the new mask unless a character has bangs to cover the effect-less splotch and a hairstyle that doesn’t clip with the sidepiece.

I went with the hellfire gauntlets over the set gloves, which were uninspiring. I tried the CoF gloves and they looked like an upgrade over the set gloves as well.

Some people are out a significant amount of gold beyond the cost of the armor itself. Those people should expect to be fully compensated for what this cost them. If they get less, they should be dissatisfied and continue to seek satisfaction.

After some more playing around, it is definitely a step down from what it was.

It still works with Midnight Fire on a Sylvari, which is a plus I guess. I’m guessing that would be brown on humans and norn though.

Replacing the horrid and seemingly half-finished mask fixes the worst of it.

But the boots look like she is going fishing. They’re the same size as the Flame Legion light armor boots and, in previews at least, the Flame Legion boots look better.

Not as bad as I expected.

But…

Why no flame effect on the center gem of the mask? It was on the old one and I can’t see how leaving it out is an aesthetic improvement or would infringe on the non-flaming-at-all human T3.

The shoulders are going to create a lot of clipping issuers at that size. Would look better IMO if the shoulders themselves were a little smaller with the same flame effect.

I don’t want more things to be destroyed. I was dismayed enough that beautiful Kessex Hills has been marred quote/unquote forever by the Tower. Now they’re hinting that other parts of the world are going to be destroyed? Not cool. Don’t make the world LESS beautiful. Is all of Tyria going to be shattered wasteland?

And it better not be the PALE TREE. As a sylvari, I would vomit sap.

This is a pretty good point. Reducing the aesthetic quality of the world isn’t a positive. Wandering around in “Lesser Orr” rather than one of the existing scenic places isn’t something I’m looking forward to.

I like the fact that the dye packs are continually re-released, and I have used about 25 of the limited time dyes on 11 of my characters. My characters don’t look any worse when someone else buys a dye they are using.

Content that players want shouldn’t be gated from them by TP traders. You can make more than a fair profit on dyes if you keep the price reasonable in between releases of them on the gem store.

alot of ppl disagree with you about your character’s appearance if ur dye / armor peice is no longer special, i like getting compliments on my dragon helmets that i hope will NEVER come out again, i like when noobs ask where its from and they go awww when i tell them its discontinued

and what about all my other reasons? it just hurts every1 to re release these dyes

I don’t consider other people as noobs, and I especially don’t like them feeling bad because they can’t enjoy having something in a game that I do. I wish they’d release more greatsaws every time someone asks me about mine.

Your other reasons are poor:

1) Releasing the dye packs keeps the prices of individual dyes on the TP down, so you’ll pay less for the specific dye that you want.

2) You can still make money off flipping the dyes, just not an exorbitant amount, which means more players can enjoy the dyes.

3) Prices change on the trading post all the time. Plenty of things drop or raise in price.

4) Prices getting too high on the TP for specific dyes make it less likely people will impulse gem-to-gold for a dye.

At the end of the day, as long as ArenaNet keeps the release infrequent enough that there is still profit in trading in the dyes, people will trade them. People aren’t going to refuse to trade in them because they aren’t going to get mega-rich off them.
