Looks great on a sylvari with black skin.
I’ve accepted that “exclusive” and “limited-time” don’t mean anything in the context of this game.
9/10 – I like names that have a meaning.
I have 10 asuran characters:
Barbasurian – Warrior
The Red Baroness – Thief
Bibi Gunn – Engineer
Bloody Ecstasy – Thief
Malice Aforethought – Warrior
Malkyli – Mesmer
Rilli Madd – Guardian
Agent Skulli – Necromancer
Zeffiri – Elementalist
Zatarri – Ranger
Animations and voice acting on the female asura, both of which I feel are the best in the game.
I have one female asura of each class. I can’t stand the male asura voice, it grates on me.
I enjoy having different characters in different gear just for the different visuals and audio. Sometimes I just get an idea of something I think would look cool or be an interesting theme and make an alt for it.
1) Ascended gear
2) Ruining the Plinx and Pact Operation Southern Advancement events
3) Limited-time availability of playable content and rewards
4) Ranger pet mechanics
5) Completed and proposed changes to ranger abilities
Even though we wouldn’t do it now another shot at Greatsword to discuss
A) 1 chain NDA by giving Vigor.
B) Add evade to swoop…Discuss?
Why do you want to change the Greatsword?
Does the evade have to go and you need to come up with an acceptable solution for it?I don’t have to change it. I am hoping to improve it with changes without making it overpowered. I think right now one of the major problems, despite being good is that the evade on the chain is very hit or miss and feels very RNG when using it or fighting against it. I would rather put more of the skill of when to evade under player control to give this weapon more agency.
How are you giving the weapon more agency by adding vigor? All vigor does is let you dodge more. When you dodge, you stop using the weapon and go into a dodge animation.
There is already agency with the weapon as it works now. You attack with it and every third attack you evade and you keep using the weapon the whole time. You choose to use the weapon and you get to keep using the weapon as you chose to do while intermittently evading. That is agency.
Taking away the evade and adding vigor makes you stop using the weapon and dodge in order to achieve the evade. That isn’t giving the weapon agency, it is just a nerf.
One reason people use only long bow or short bow from the back is to avoid being downed. If the warrior gets downed, “Hey, stuff happens.” But when the ranger gets downed, “OMG Rangers suck!” So, out of fear of being booted, some players are ultra-cautious and are so worried about being perceived as bad that they contribute less than they could.
In my experience, having a good long bow ranger that runs around and assists from the back makes a number of dungeon paths go more smoothly.
The worst issue I’ve ever had playing with a longbow ranger is that sometimes you get a longbow ranger that randomly spams Point Blank Shot and screws up all the other players’ efforts.
I know the farmers hate the idea, as well as people trying to get the materials needed for ascended weapons and such, but zergs need to be broken up.
With ascended weapons requiring as much grind as they do and ascended armor on the way, there are people who will fight tooth and nail against anything that decreases the efficiency of their grinding, because there are people hate what they’re doing.
Best-in-slot gear requires grinding, so people are grinding, even though they hate it.
Thought there was a place to dicuss the idea of removing the Evade from Powerstab (Greatsword 3rd ability from #1 chain) and move it to swoop. The idea as state is to give Rangers a more controlled and reactive on-demand dodge. This is a change very likely to go live.
When did this go from an idea that they were just throwing around and that the dev admitted wasn’t very good after a bunch of people objected to it to a change that is very likely to go live?
+1
I have the following: 4/5 Arah, 3/4 CM, 3/4 HotW, 3/4 SE, 1/2 AC, 1/2 CoE and all of TA.
AC and CoE I know I need story mode, but the rest I’m kind of stuck picking and hoping. It would be really nice to be able to see what I need.
I think the issue with those 99.999 percent of people who fail is that their failure impedes the ability of someone else to get the item or causes someone else to have to overpay for an item.
In the real world, the idea of saving and investing is all well and good. And if this was a stock market sim or some sort of trading simulation, dealing with this would be expected.
But having to deal with arbitrary and unfair price fluctuations (especially in cases where someone did save and saw their target skyrocket out of their reach) doesn’t add a lot of enjoyment in this kind of game. In the aggregate things may go back to normal, but that doesn’t take away the loss or disappointment of people who just wanted to buy something and go play with it. A system where one guy messes up, a few traders get rich, and a bunch of other people are unhappy seems like it builds a great economy for the few but a lousy game for the majority.
I can understand the champ farming zergs but I dislike them compared to the old pertinent/shelter zerg. Both were/are afflicted with kill credit issues, but at least the non-champ farms weren’t an endless game of keep-up.
Penet/Shelt was a lot more fun than the current Champ farm chase around. Not the least because there were pauses and times to move around between Penet/Shelt and the other nearby events that weren’t mad dashes to get there before they ended. It was social and people could chat, mess around with the nearby mobs and play with their gear. Then it went to too much time between events and turned into a ghost town.
It would be nice to have things paced enjoyably in Orr again.
Some ranger discussion.
Natural Vigor
Starting here because I think it requires the most discussion. This, simply put, was a wildly overpowered trait. I tell people not to compare one profession to another, but Engineer has this trait as a major grandmaster. It was simply too easy to put 5 points in this line and then be able to dodge every 6.67 seconds. As it stands after the change this still allows you to splash 5 points and dodge every 8 seconds. I don’t think this will ruin survivability, and I think by buff other traits further down this line it will encourge rangers who are looking to survive to go further into this trait line.
This is a huge blow to survivability – about 17% fewer dodges. Having played all the classes, and using a ranger as a main since release. that is dying about 15% more often. My ranger dodges more than any other character I have with 15 into that trait line already.
All rangers are looking to survive. Going deep into that trait line should be a bonus to survivability, not a requirement. Unless you’re boosting offense so we can kill everything that can hit us at any given time 17% faster, this is a bigger deal than you’re portraying it to be, especially for PvE content.
Power Rangers
One idea we talked about for Greatsword would be to take the evade off of the 3rd attack of the auto-chain and put it on swoop. This would give you a second on-demand defensive skill and instead we put something less timing based (for example a whirl finisher) on that third attack to empower it.
This is such a bad idea that I’m hoping it was suggested as something to use to scare us and then not do, so putting in the natural vigor change despite our objections seem better.
That evade is what makes it possible for Power/Precision rangers to use their greatsword in crowds, where it hits multiple opponents and lets them attack a boss when there are other mobs around. Evades/dodges are how power/precision rangers survive.
Please don’t make this the patch that forces people to put points into vitality/toughness like a fancy version of later-patch Daiblo 2 where life is all that matters for almost every class.
Hey mates, I’ve got some good ideas to fairly improve the shortbow.
2 – Changes to, fire an arrow at your foe that explodes on impacting, poisoning (6’s) and blinding (6’s) nearby foes. Recharge increased to 10’s.
4 – Changes to, fire an arrow that immobilizes your target (2’s). Your pet’s next three attacks inflict bleeding.
5 – Changes to, fire an arrow that dazes (1’s) and confuses (3 stacks, 5’s) your foe. Recharge reduced to 20’s. No longer stuns.
That’s it mates. These are simple but I think they’re pretty good and could definitively improve viability.
All they need to do to fix it is put the range back to 1200.
I wouldn’t delete it, but don’t expect to use it as much as your other chars. If I hadn’t done my 100% world completion on my ranger, she’d see a lot less use. Now I’m kind of stuck with her because a lot of stuff is in places my other chars don’t have WPs and I don’t have the time now to both run through half the world and play the new content.
I agree. They should have moved something better into the adept line… would have softened the blow a bit. Not sure what to take in that spot now that will be much of any use
+1
My flamethrower engineer has a dead spot in Explosives 10 after this. Kind of rotten that I have to give up my Gadget recharge to use my Rocket Boots more often, which was fun, to get an empty hole with nothing useful in return on a build that wasn’t broken.
I like the Phalanx and Viper armor sets. The positive thing for ANet about the Phalanx set is that it looks nice enough in each gender that I’ll buy two sets. The viper set looks good too and I especially like how it has a sort of light plate look to it, especially on asura.
Following the mini white kitten rule, I have the mini toy golem, so that one will be back. Since I don’t have the others, they won’t be offered again.
I hope the Natural Vigor change gets nixed. Aside from encouraging bunkering, it makes the game less fun to play. Anything that reduces the number of actions my character can take in a period of time makes the game play slow. The ranger used to be a lot of fun with its emphasis on quick action. Between having already ruined the short bow as a primary weapon and adding this endurance change, it will feel like some kind of minion master or support caster that sits in one place and presses a button every couple seconds.
Just to note that this issue still exists. Is there some reason addressing this is exceptionally difficult? A similar issue was resolved here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Order-of-Whispers-armor-color/first
It would seem like having dealt with a similar issues this would be quick and simple to address…
What is in the Labyrinth worth zerging for? IME the mobs drop garbage compared to champ farming in Orr or Frostgorge and Queensdale seems to be more champs at better risk/reward.
I’m kinda sad that they brought back the old skins, I mean they’re just town clothes so i guess it doesn’t really matter, but I like the idea of having something exclusive that says “hey I played during this holiday and here’s proof”
Something like the Devil Horns, Witch Hat, Phantom’s Hood, “Master Carver” and “Emissary of the Mad King” titles, or either level of the Mad Memoires?
There are more than enough ways to show you participated in Halloween 2012, so I don’t think the Witch and Mad King outfits need to be restricted to that list as well.
While I don’t mind having things listed as “limited time” items coming back for others to enjoy, I’d like to have the option to earn the in-game items again to be fair about it.
It seems like an odd way to treat the people buying stuff from you – the stuff you bought as “limited time” items we’re going to start selling to people again, but that “limited time” in-game content you didn’t complete last year is lost to you forever. It isn’t like they couldn’t set up portals and instances to let people experience each year’s content again to get rewards.
I love the howling sound.
I wish the footsteps were more visible and lasted longer – equivalent to how long you can see the footsteps from something like Kudzu or The Dreamer.
Any chance of a hotfix for this?
I got all my accessible POIs and vistas regardless of where they were located on the map in a day. It wasn’t much of an achievement to avoid all the highly skilled zergs trampling from place to place. And the bulk of the keeps change hands so often that that isn’t a challenge either.
But the inaccessible POIs and vistas in the keeps nearest the spawn points are a needless, stupid barrier that also isn’t a challenge. Getting everything I needed for a legendary, then waiting a month until the right colors came up took the last possible bit of fun out of the already mind-numbingly boring and frustrating process. There was no “thrill” in walking into an already owned keep Saturday morning. It took the two worst things in the game – RNG and time gating – and combined them into one last bit of misery.
I got 1 in 5, someone else 0 for 10.
If I understand the drops on the chests, there are a lot of “common” items. Making any one “common” item uncommon if not rare. Getting 10 of the same common item becomes statistically improbable. Barring exceptional luck, it’ll cost a lot of money to get 10 scraps before the sale period is up. Then you can look forward to trying to get 50 of them…
I should have thought it through before buying. Oh well, at least I realized it after only buying 5 keys.
Issue 1 – People who are new will have to wait to get the number of achievement points needed to acquire some stuff. This is ridiculous. New people will at least be getting stuff as they hit each tier rather than waiting from launch until now for any of it.
Issue 2 – Dailies/Monthlies already give laurels/silver/karma jug. This is also ridiculous. Everything in the game gives some measure of reward. So by this logic, anything that gave a reward – every dungeon, meta-event, WvW accomplishment, etc. should not count toward achievement points.
This is quite possibly the lamest elitist attempt to get things for themselves at the expense of others in the history of gaming.
Remove achievement points from dungeons, jumping puzzles and story content too. Those all already give rewards.
Better yet, just give me achievement points and don’t give them to anyone else. It will make me feel elite.
precursors coupon for every 5k achievement points please, thank you arenanet. Coupon with same mechanic for the fused gauntlet, brings up a vendor tab so you can choose which precursor u want.
I’m curious as to whether something like this would make it the same price for a 1-hand vs. 2-hand vs. aquatic vs. off-hand only weapon…
Remove achievement points from dailies and remove these points from total count!
100% sign
Another 100% here.
0% Here. Points are points.
I got bored and ran another 1000.
Totals:
1,997 Pieces of Zhaitaffy
160 Fireworks
18 Koi Cakes
16 Dragonfish Candies
15 Dragonfly Cupcakes
15 Kralkachocolate bars
11 Dragon’s Breath Buns
11 Mini Holographic Dragon Knights
11 Slices of Candied Dragon Roll
2 Cold Potions
2 Hard Potions
2 Warm Potions
1 Dragon’s Jade Claim Ticket
This is where I would post a picture of my Jade Weapon!
…If I had one!
Congratulations to everyone that got the tickets. I’ve opened over 3000 of the regular coffers, but got none. It happens x)
I feel for you. I ground skulks like a fiend trying to get a Sclerite Weapon Ticket to no avail. I really wanted that shotgun…
After all the expense and time, we may as well enjoy them.
The pistols are nicer than I expected. The trail of smoke is more significant than I thought from the preview pane and creates a stream behind your character when you run. It doesn’t show as well in a screen capture though.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the ribbon on the axes. I expected to hate them, but they make for a nice animation when used.
The longbow and shield look as I expected, the greatsword a little better.
I’d love for the option to “use all” on things like stacks of coffers. After 2000 coffers, it starts to get old…
I picked up 4 from 2350 so far. I have some dragon minis for sale, after I burn through the gold from those I’m done.
Having burnt through those, I finished at 4 tickets from 2525.

It might have been my imagination, but yesterday after the patch, events seemed to be spawning in the Cursed Shore at a more rapid rate. It made me think maybe we got a stealth buff to the timers. I got rotten drops though, so it was good I was just trying to get some karma for a skin.
I’m not good at the whole dungeon/boss fight thing and the group I was in managed it on the second try at the final fight. We had a couple guardians and some of the guys were very good and one very, very good.
I picked up a lot along the way from watching them when I was down and got better as it went, though still not good. Depending on your class/build, some of the stuff can be unforgiving of mistakes which could be a problem if the group you’re with isn’t either.
It isn’t the end of Rangers. But it is the end of the type of Ranger I most enjoyed (short bow/greatsword). Now, if you’re using a bow, you have to have a long bow. Which leaves either the short bow or greatsword out.
And a 60 second cooldown on Crossfire in case someone is still using a Short Bow…
1,391 over the last 9 months over 17 characters. Very little afk or chat time.
Personally, I’m not concerned with doing the absolute optimal build. But, this leaves my choices for the Adept Tier at:
Death From Above – I don’t skydive into enemies that much.
Restorative Strength – If I wanted a healing trait, I’d stat Defense.
Great Fortitude – If I wanted vitality, I’d stat Tactics
Short Temper – Too situational.
Dual Wield – Doesn’t work with my Greatsword or my Warhorn.
Powerful Banners – Worthless, as I rarely use banners and when I do it is before I’m engaged.
I hate having to waste a ‘choice’ on something I don’t like because there is nothing I like to choose.
So my Flamethrower Engineer can now spec:
Adept: Fireforged Trigger
Master: Juggernaut
Grandmaster: Napalm Specialist
So I can swap Napalm Specialist in for Precise Sights. Looks nice, but I wonder how the math adds up…
There should be some method of triggering Vengeance during boss fights and such where there is a need for rallying mobs. As it stands, it becomes utterly useless when you need it most.
There is another side to this. Developers that play the game extensively themselves sometimes engage in “pet peeve” design – making changes based solely on what they personally dislike (or enjoy) without regard for the fact that the game has to appeal to a wide spectrum of players. Adding things that they like is generally a lot less harmful than removing things they don’t like but that some of the population does (unless the things they like are given mechanical advantages over other options to make them the “right” choice).
I’d really like the sliders for effects to be split into two – your effects and others’ effects. Aside from fixing this issue, they could put my chainswords’ and greatsaw’s sound back to a normal volume. Currently, I have to have the effects slider all the way up to hear the swords/saw which makes the horn much more of a pain to deal bear. I can also hear the footsteps of everyone else in the area like I’m laying on the ground in the middle of a parade.
It is obvious that the Asura have a clear advantage in PvP because of their size. Asurans are not only difficult to target without auto-targeting on, but their skills are impossible to see! It is much more difficult to dodge an asura’s skills than it is to dodge a charr’s or a norn’s
I don’t know about you, but i don’t want to feel like i need to pick an Asura for PvP or level one for WvW just to get this same advantage. Its just unfair to my poor poor Charr! :’(
I do have one suggestion. I know that asurans can’t shoot over objects or over rough terrain as well as taller characters because they lose their line of sight. This is a good start, but what if asurans had shorter melee range? that would be one fix, and it would be a natural disadvantage to counter their advantage from their small size? it would make sense! 130 range for an asura’s melee attack is basically a ranged attack for them…
Constructive responses only! Thanks for reading
Asura already have a disadvantage that matches whatever advantage they gain from their tells being harder to see. Their angle of vision is lower when zoomed in, making it harder for them to see tells of larger characters and in some cases resulting in their vision being completely obscured by weapons with a lot of effects. And when zoomed out, their smaller size results in them often being obscured by other characters making it harder for the player of the asura to judge where they are in relation to other characters or see what is happening around them to choose a course of action.
Changing their melee range would make it impossible to participate in mass battles which are so frenzied and chaotic that you can’t react to tells quickly enough (if you can see them at all as people move around in the crowd) to make a difference. It completely breaks the design tenet that no race should be better or worse at a class than any other.
Hi MisterEction.
I understand your concern, but bumping this thread doesn’t help it and will only delay things. You bumping it means the devs have to open and read this thread, recognise this is allready a known issue and that no new people are complaining. So no change to the bug and to the impact. So your using their time while they should be working on fixing this and other things.
I’m sorry, but this sounds completely wrong. If reminding them every week or so, in the Game Bugs forum, that a Game Bug hasn’t been addressed or even acknowledged is somehow delaying things, something is tragically wrong with their process.
