Berserker BWE3 Feedback

in Warrior

Thuggernaut.1250

ANet has totally forsaken Warriors. Core Warrior relies on the stance crutch to stay alive; Berserker brings nothing to the table but a mediocre transformation that even Rampage eclipses.

(1) Berserker duration is too short;

(2) Adrenaline degenerates so rapidly that you can’t take advantage of the burst spamming mechanic;

(3) The primal bursts are mediocre at best. The only decent one got a massive nerf before launch (Gunflame);

(4) Rage skills are nothing special; even if they were good, Warrior needs stances to survive anyway, Headbutt and Outrage are the only decent ones;

(5) The Berserker traits are totally selfish; you gain zero advantage from them except when actually using Berserk mode (15 seconds lol); and finally,

(6) The Berserker traitline forces you to replace a core traitline, all of which are straight-up better. If you don’t run Strength/Defense/Discipline, you’re at a disadvantage, period.

Right now, Warriors can’t slot Berserker and survive in PvP, not just because Berserker is underpowered, but because the core Warrior is so broken that build diversity is in the toilet.

Go play a warrior, use the burst skills. Compare them to druid ‘s celestial form. See how op celestial form is compared to warriors burst skills. See that you’re stupid for even trying to justify AF buff. Come back and delete your post.

Mhmm. See the point is that you can actually use burst skills. Atm you can’t even use CAF because it doesn’t charge fast enough to use.

Moot point now, because you already got a dev to confirm that they’re going to reverse the Druid nerf.

Meanwhile, Warrior is stuck with total kitten.

Thank You ArenaNet. Sorry for the others.

The OP is not saying you do not have the right to complain. OP is pointing out you are complaining in a RUDE way. You have no social graces. There is a way to get a point across without being rude. Catch with honey not vinegar.

Yes, thank you. This is what I’m saying.

They’re big boys and girls at ANet, they can handle it. Especially when they have all of the cash we spent on this expansion pack to stuff their pillows at night.

This expansion isn’t something they made out of the kindness of their hearts; they made the expansion to get paid. And paying customers often feel swindled when they’re deceived about certain aspects of the expansion just to lure in pre-purchases.

It’s ok to carry Shroud and Celestial Avatar from battle to battle… but one lousy burst attack! God forbid!!!

To me, the death knell was the decision to pursue the Living-Story-Platform-Gaming-Jump-Puzzle concept in lieu of the open-world, exploration, party-on-the-fly game that attracted so many of us.

Plus, they should have monetized WvW. In the early days, I would have gladly paid to participate if they had shown a commitment to improving WvW.

They took a game of exploration and wonder and transformed it into an grinder.

+1. We wanted a worthy sequel to GW1, not a pseudo-Mario platform jumpfest.

WvW? God only knows why they even bothered with new maps after three years of neglect.

Methinks ANet would have gotten a lot fewer pre-purchases had they revealed the grind necessary to unlock the elite specs – and the mastery grind necessary to even access the hero points needed to grind the elite specs.

And we had to pull teeth just to get a character slot thrown in for our $49.99! Great value!

[Build] Berserker Gunflame Mesmer (vid)

in Warrior

Posted by: Thuggernaut.1250

Thuggernaut.1250

I like the concept, and I’m not criticizing your gameplay, but your video revealed the weaknesses of the Berserker elite right off the bat.

Starting at 1:15, the Revenant you were fighting dodged your Gunflame three times in a row, then your Berserker duration ended. Then, when you went Berserk again, he blinded your next Gunflame.

Then at your next fight around 2:45, the enemy Guardian blocked your Gunflame. A few seconds later, both of them dodged your Arc Divider.

Starting at 6:55, another Guardian blocked your Gunflame. Probably just from the virtue proc alone, without even seeing it coming. 7:50, another Warrior blocked your Arc Divider. A couple seconds later, he dodged your Gunflame. A couple seconds later, his Revenant friend interrupted your next Gunflame.

It looked like less than 25% of your primal bursts actually connected with the targets. You played well, but Berserker is just so easily countered, I think bringing vanilla Warrior into PvP is better every time.

Maybe WvW will prove a bit better for Berserker, I don’t know…

The Berserker trait-line is totally selfish and self-contained. It has zero synergy with any other traitline. This is why it’s so hard to shoehorn it into a working Warrior build.

Discipline: absolutely essential and helps any build.
Strength: Great traits for any build.
Defense: Fits in well with most builds.
Tactics: Good synergy and good group support.
Arms: Decent synergy for some power builds and some condi builds.
Berserker: zero synergy. The traits only affect Berserker mode or condi builds.

in WvW

Posted by: Thuggernaut.1250

Thuggernaut.1250

That was before the change that just getting to 80 was enough to unlock all the core skills and traits. The original statement was that characters with map completion would have enough for the core and the elite. The latter likely changed when they former was changed, and it’s probably still mostly true. They’ve said that skills and traits will be unlocked first (function over frill). So you’ll probably actually be able to get all of the skills and traits in the first 200-ish points. We shall see.

Thanks for the explanation, I see what you’re saying. Let’s see how it plays out on Friday…

Yes, unless you prefer wxp boosters for some reason.
Don’t except them to reward those proofs retroactively though, as it sounds they may not do that.

Edit: using the wxp stuff now give you instant wxp and therefore levels, but it probably won’t result in more hero points on launch, if you hold on to them though you guarantee 50% faster wxp gain and therefore faster hero point acquisition.

I can confirm having the WSAD freeze. However it’s not PvP, it’s the game in general. I’ve had it occur everywhere from the Silverwastes, to Lion’s Arch, and even while doing the level 1 intro story quest.

My guess is there is some input pattern that is causing a hiccup, and it takes several seconds for the client (or server depending on how movement is handled) to sort itself out.

A true solo queue would really help with the issues that OP has discussed.

Phantom, I think you’ve hit a good point on build diversity: it has reached critical levels for multiple professions (Warrior and Thief especially) in sPvP. It seems like, for most professions, either (1) there is only one decent build, or (2) there is one build so much better than the rest you would have to be crazy not to run it.

I was a big fan of the specialization update until it actually came out. I thought it would help build diversity; I was dead wrong.

As for condi builds: they are gimmick builds/one-trick ponies… as hard as burning hits right now, I think most classes have a good way of mitigating it. Unfortunately for classes like Warrior/Thief, condi cleanse is not in the meta right now, so condis will affect them more.

Devs reasoning for no baseline fast hands?

in Warrior

Posted by: Thuggernaut.1250

Thuggernaut.1250

The argument is “Fast Hands is already in every Warrior build ever. All this does is give us back free choice of three traitlines.” A’ight, coo’. What about Elementalists? Most Elementalist players I know feel that cantrips are flat required, as is EAtt, and thus they’re hard-locked into both Water and Arcane. Would they feel it’s perfectly fine for Warriors to get their Fast Hands baseline’d, such that they can freely pick whichever three traits give them the most stunbreaks or the most deep cleanses or the most +10%-while-[X]? How ’bout Necromancers, who maintain that Vital Persistence is critical for any build worth playing and are thus locked into Soul Reaping?

Why can’t those guys get their ‘absolutely essential, cannot-play-class-without’ traits baselined as well? I’m sure you all have a reason – what reason would that be? When you have it…turn it around, and ask yourself “why does this not apply to Warriors?”

Now, I get it. It’s frustrating to be forced into a line you might not want to pick by the realities of the game, and Fast Hands feels like one of those things that could safely be baselined without upsetting balance too much. I can see the logic, as I’ve said elsewhere. But the more I’ve thought about this recently, the more I’ve become convinced it’s exactly the sort of can of worms that nobody really wants to open. This isn’t just about Warriors in a vacuum – this is about figuring out if it’s cool for ArenaNet to start baselining half a dozen traits per profession, letting the power creep get absolutely, unacceptably disgusting, and dealing a heavy blow to an already complex game’s ease of use and intuitive ability to switch between classes, all in the name of ‘this would make PvP better!’

I don’t PvP. And as a PvE player in a PvE guild, I am sick unto death of the PvP guys absolutely, crushingly dominating the game’s balancing and driving ninety percent of ArenaNet’s class/profession-based decision-making. Discipline is an excellent line, as opposed to, ohh, say…Water. Maybe it’d be all right to not shaft everyone who doesn’t spend all night standing in control points, just this once?

We all want Warrior to perform well in any game mode. The frustration lies in the fact that there are so few good builds that do so, because they all rely on Fast Hands (except for the meta dungeon PvE build of course). I don’t think anyone can claim that Warrior is the worst PvP profession, but it certainly dropped a few more notches compared to Mesmer and Ele, which both received multiple baselined traits in the specialization patch. Even Guardians got a significant boost, with shouts that actually perform well (Warrior shouts got nerfed in the exact same patch).

You argue that power creep and trait baselining is bad for the game. Every profession’s players think that some traits are “must-haves” and should get baselined, and that would lead to insane balance problems.

The problem is that ANet already did so for multiple professions. If Warrior doesn’t get the same treatment for its most vital minor trait, it will get left in the dust. Actually, Fast Hands is the only claim that Warriors have to actually being “weapon masters.”

Build diversity is in the crapper for Warrior… this problem even extends to PvE for meta dungeons, etc. Berserker makes the problem even worse, because nobody can figure out which traitline to drop for it (if at all). Discipline can’t go, because of Fast Hands.

I hate to use the argument that “we should get it because someone else got it!” But ANet already let the genie out of the bottle. It’s too late to turn back the Mesmer/Ele baselines. It’s time Warrior got its turn.

I don’t think PvP players asking for Warrior buffs shafts any PvE Warrior at all… that just sounds spurious. If you’re worried about getting backlash nerfs because of a buff that helps PvP only, that could happen any time for any number of reasons. ANet has never been afraid to nerf Warrior before; that can’t discourage us from asking for buffs.

Silly me, thinking Warriors had by-far-bar-none the best condition handling in the game. Maybe an Alchemical Tinctures Engineer comes close, but only if they take Elixir C as one of their options.

As someone who plays and loves their Necromancer, I can state that Ryn can only dream of being able to rinse off conditions as easily and regularly as Warriors do.

You might have had a point before the specialization update, when every Warrior carried a longbow + Vigorous Shouts. After the update, no Warrior that wants to actually do anything useful in sPvP runs that build.

The only thing keeping Warrior from becoming a condi punching-bag now is Berserker Stance + Brawler’s Recovery. As a Necro, you should have no problem condi-bombing a Warrior now; just wait for Berserker’s Stance to run out, and let the condis rip.

Discussion: Core Warrior Traits

in Warrior

Posted by: Thuggernaut.1250

Thuggernaut.1250

I agree with you that it is strong, but it’s not in any means balanced. You know this as much as I do if you’ve been playing warrior; Forceful Greatsword allows warrior to pump out DPS no other profession is capable of doing. It needs rebalancing. If you think that my suggestions are poor, please share with us your idea of a balanced Forceful Greatsword.

Posting big damage pictures of a full 100b on a stationary, defenseless target golem doesn’t prove anything “overpowered.” Forceful Greatsword is pretty much the only thing propping up Warrior in PvE… nerf that, and Phalanx Strength alone can’t save Warrior from irrelevance.

Sure Forceful Greatsword can pump out decent DPS in PvE, but it’s nothing that any Ele can’t do, and you see a lot more of them in the dungeon meta anyway. People need it more for the synergy with Phalanx Strength to stack might than for the raw personal damage. PvE is just a DPS game against canned content, so I don’t see a problem.

Calling for PvE nerfs is just pointless. There’s no competitive aspect, and people just want to grind through repetitive content faster.

The Rifle, The shotgun(Proposal)

in Warrior

Posted by: Thuggernaut.1250

Thuggernaut.1250

The E-rifle is an unfocused schizophrenic mess that has no idea what it wants to do or where it wants to be. Three of its five skills either create or maintain distance (Net Shot, Overcharged Shot, Jump Shot – all range creators), and four of the five skills on the thing are either utility or Power-based…but then the big-punch attack on the gun is a point-blank melee-range Malice skill?

What. The. Frog.

The Engineer rifle is nice because it has so much utility. Even though some of the skills contradict each other (Blunderbuss vs. Overcharged shot), the best thing about it is that you have something useful for every situation. Need a hard-cc? Overcharge shot. Need a soft-cc? Net shot. Someone getting too close for comfort? Blunderbuss. Need a burst or mobility? Rocket jump.

It fits in well with the Engineer, because the Engineer’s kits have something for every situation as well. Look at the Tool Kit – same setup as the rifle; it gives a grab-bag of skills you can pull out when you need exactly the right tool for the job.

In that sense, the Engineer is more of a “weapon master” than Warrior. The Engineer weapon skills seem scatterbrained on the surface, but soon you realize that the best approach is to choose the right option for each situation.

Compare to the Warrior rifle: a short duration soft-cc on skill 2, and a melee hard-cc (on a ranged weapon) on skill 5, Rifle Butt. This weapon is a one-trick pony, because it has garbage utility, and the big burst Killshot has all the drawbacks we’ve beaten a dead horse over. Skill 3, Volley, is just a poor man’s Rapid Fire.
