Were you actively working on not dying? Anyway though, congratulations, I am interested in trying this now.

Actually. at first i wasn’t. I jokingly thought to myself lets see if i can make it to lvl 10 without dying , then every 10 lvl or so i’d say the same thing lol. But when i hit 40+ without dying i started to think that i should try for 80.

Until that decision, i wasn’t hugely cautious, certainly nothing like i was when doing survivor title in gw1. For eg: i went and did that event chain in Harathi when i wasn’t even lvl 40 and mobs there were lvl 42-3 so yea it was risky, but i went to discover the wp there and got caught up in the event. I also did Shatterer as well as i was completing Blazeridge, but once i made the decision to really go for it, i did become more careful, like avoiding vistas that cold kill me if i fall and avoiding group events if there was no one around.

I have lvled up 8 other characters to lvl 80 with 100% map completions so that kind of experience helps, knowing the maps and mobs and also knowing when to fight and when to run. I had a few hairy moments though, where i got downed in some events, but managed to rally back. So this one of those times when i really appreciated the downed system lol.

One example how easily u can die by getting over confident, or careless in this case, was in Dieassa platteau. I was lvl 79 at this point and it was an event not far from breached wall where 2 catapults spawn and tons of separatists that attack this outpost. I was on my own there, just wanted to id the place for map completion really but got caught up in the event and got mobbed as those separatists spawn like crazy. so it was a bit of a phew moment lol.

Some people have said it’s no big deal what i did, that it’s easy and should try do harder stuff like dungeons and WvW, but i don’t think those places are for trying to go for survivor. And sure, perhaps it’s not as bigger a time sink as it was was in gw1 and as a result not as difficult, but it’s not a matter of that in the end. It’s like i said, it’s being able to focus and be aware of ur surroundings all the time, that takes a toll and puts a constant strain on u, as suddenly, u have to think about every action u do b4 u do it and weigh out the risks.

That’s awesome! You should definitely get something to show for it.

At launch I thought about trying this because I really enjoyed playing Survivor in GW1 (see attachment) but I haven’t started yet.

As for LDoA there is (or was) a guy on Desolation doing exactly that in the human starter instance. Last time I looked he was level 65 but he’s probably gotten a lot higher now. I’ve heard there was someone doing it in the sylvari instance on another server too

But I can’t see it ever being as popular as LDoA because that grew out of people just wanting to stay in pre-searing Ascalon because they liked the zone so much. The instances in GW2 are a lot smaller and don’t have nearly as much to do so I don’t think it would have the same appeal. It definitely doesn’t for me.

Hah tnx wow, its been a while since I played gw1 but its so nice to see those titles again. I got my Legendary Survivor on my Paragon. It took 3-4 months of solid (careful) gameplay. I basically finished Nightfall, Cantha and fair bit of Eye of the North. But oh boy, after getting 1.3 mil exp i began to feel really nervous i’d suddenly make a mistake and die lol or something freaky would happen like getting disconnected in middle of combat and find myself dead when i log back in and having to start all over again. I even began to dream about it xD. But thank god, i made it in the end and it was the best feeling ever!

I got the LDoA on my ele. She spent almost a year in pre-searing Ascalon. She got to lvl 14…almost 15 but there was no way i was getting that title via death lvling. I had death leveled a couple of pets which was bad enough but getting that title in that manner sounded positively awful. Then just as i was getting itchy feet and getting ready to leave, Anet introduces a new way of getting that title…vial questing. I was so thrilled and it only took me a month or so to get it.

So yea, after all those difficulties in gw1, getting the survivor in gw2 seems kinda lame tbh. I got mine and don’t ask me how, i think i got it while leveling my main’s crafting lol.

Now go to WvW or sPvP and see your deaths rack up…

You should not get any achievement for this, its sooo easy to do…

Now if you got the dungeon master title without dieing, that would be good…

Lol, w/ever, i guess some ppl are hard to impress xD, but i’ll try at least getting 100% with 0 deaths, don’t fancy my chances but hey nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Actually, for perma-death players, that is quite the achievement. A max level character is a treasured acquisition. Grats to you, and don’t die!

Haha, tyvm, i wish now there was some way of tracking how many lvls equivalent u gain post lvl 80. Does anyone know of a way of doing that other than skill point count? I haven’t unlocked all my skills yet so it may be a bit hard to keep track of it that way.

You should get a medal for bothering to level a ranger now :P

Well to be honest, I love rangers, i think they’re awesome! then only thing, wish L/bow was a bit faster but it’s much better than it used to be.
In gw1 i had 3 rangers lol. granted one of them was purely pvp. in gw2 this is my 2nd ranger as well so yea… love them xD.

My Ranger just turned 80 with 0 deaths yay! All done thru playing the game, no crafting, no cheating. But it kinda feels hollow, no recognition of any kind and I think there should be. IMO, something like this is more worthy of Survivor title than the way it’s gotten atm.

Inflexible Skin System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

It is indeed very rigid, and it doesn’t help that the cost is dependent on gem prices.

WoW’s transmogging is great because items don’t disappear and you can revert to original appearances, but can cost a lot of gold. Rift’s wardrobe function doesn’t cost a thing but doesn’t apply as easily (like, at ALL) to weapons. Haven’t played LotRO too much, but I’ve heard it also has a pretty good skin system. Dunno much about ToR either, just that it costs money to hide my helmet of all things.

Any streamlining to GW2’s transmutations would be awesome.

Actually Lotro, which i still play on and off, does a have a nice cosmetic system. You unlock a wardrobe where u get a staring amount of slots and you can then purchase additional ones all with in game currency (turbine points) which is equivalent to gems. You can’t trade in game gold for this currency, but you can earn it through doing deeds and completing content in the game, slow though it may be.

So you get a wardrobe as a separate slot panel to your bank and you can basically place any skin within it. The items placed in there are actual copies of the original item and any of your characters can use those skins and i do mean any. For eg: a light armor wearer can use a heavy armor skins placed in there or vice versa although there’s a bit of a trick in making this possible. The only restriction on the copied skins occurs if it was acquired for completing specific quests or it’s a rep item, then a character who hasn’t achieved those goals cannot use those skins till they also reach that goal.

You can even dispose of the originals saving you bank space, however the danger here is if you remove it’s copy form the wardrobe accidentally or for w/ever reason, the skin is gone for ever. So those skins you really don’t want to lose, you still end up keeping the originals in your storage as a just in case and they can end up taking a lot of space in you bank.

You can have save up to 6 or 7 looks in Lotro and wear those looks anywhere, while not affecting your armor stats. They give you couple of free ones to start with then you can unlock additional cosmetic slots with the in game currency. So once you’ve selected the look you want you simply click on Cosmetic tab 1, 2 3 etc and and say use this look and voila! As simple as that. Oh and the cosmetic dress ups also allow you to hide/show basically everything except leggings and chest pces, offering even more flexibility.
And btw, Ltoro cosmetics do not include weapon skins, you can only use the armor pces, but it sure would be nice to have 2 separate ones, one for armor and one for weapons.

The system in Lotro isn’t exactly perfect imo but perhaps Anet should check it out and get some good ideas from it if they decide to add some kinda of wardrobe to the game.

It makes no sense, I ask people in game and they say do the achievments however some of these I have no idea what to do plus how is this a story doing achivements? so then I was told to go to lions arch and go on a flying ship i go to this spot fly around on some launch pads, people start fighting these monter’s I jump in and nothing happens

Look I just don’t understand this at all and it seems like people are having problems explaining it to me in the game aswell so can anyone make sense of all this?

I know guild wars 2 dev said they wanna push the living story but I don’t want to play this game anymore since i can’t even understand one of the main thins LIVING WORLD

You should always check the official website, Anet usually give detailed guide for each living story update and what to do to get the achievements.

You can also check dulfy.net which give detailed guides to the various living story and achievements.

Should I play GW1?

Tiger Ashante.1792

OP, short answer yes, awesome game!
Long answer, gw1 is rich in Lore, much more so than gw2. Although i haven’t payed gw1 form the time it launched, but got it some 4 years later, i imagine the lore evolved with the game, as i expect gw2 will too.

The game also has a rich and epic feel to their story lines in each campaign, great cinematics too and really nice graphics for such an older game.

You can do everything that is required to complete the game with your heroes. I did almost everything with them even in HM and including dungeons. It does take a little practice to micro manage them, usually u don’t have to but in some dungeons u do need to a bit. it’s no big deal really or even difficult to do. Because of Heroes, you should first start in nightfall to unlock them. It’s the only campaign that offers them to begin with but you do get others later in the other campaigns that you can do quests to unlock.

And a nice thing about heroes, all the skills available to you, are automatically available to your heroes too, so you can completely customise their builds, weaps and rune up their armor. And like some people have said above, heroes are better than some players and don’t disobey you or rage quite on you.

Ok so there’s no jump, but you can always do /jump and voila! its not the same but better than nothing lol. plus gw1 has the best dances absolutely the best and tons of great emotes. Hopefully, one day we’ll get them in gw2 as well, right now they’re very bland and sparse.

well if you do start playing come back and let us know what u think and how u like the game, gl and hf!

So far i got 14 or 16 i think and i’ve been playing since head start. So yeah, unless they do add more of them, it’ll probably be the only slayer deed i don’t complete, that and maybe plant slayer. Somehow it upsets me to have to kill that many Oakenhearts especially since most of them are passive.

They should really allow those plant turrets in celedon forest to be counted as well or jungle worms. They kinda look like plants. As for giants, the risen giants should be also counted as well as large world bosses. I mean they don’t come more gigantic than dragons lol.

I believe you can get the ground chest again in a reset if you do the event on a different character. You might want to test that though.

Oh ic, it has to be on a different char? That’s probably right. Oh well i usually don’t repeat events unless i need to for dailies or whatever, but especially not that Harathi one as it has the worst culling i’ve ever seen, at least in that first part of the chain. You literally cannot see the enemies during the entire event and ppl just spam their AoE;s in hope they’ll hit something, which only makes the culling even worse.

But after killing the boss, i decided to complete one of the hearts in the area and the event started again so i joined in, as it does give good exp for a lvling char.

And btw, tnx for the info.

So GW2 didn't get the 1 mil likes!

But please, please, ease off on fluff, JP’s and mini games and focus more on story and lore, more mission and give us some new maps to explore!

Agh i don’t know if it’s my bad luck or what, but my new ranger is over lvl 40 now, did that event again in Harathi, got the guaranteed chest and the regular one, then did the event again, and this time nothing, no chest of any kind at all.

I know the guaranteed chest is once per day but i thought the regular event chest spawned every time u do the event, or has this changed recently?

Edit: i know i was originally referring to SB event and i haven’t done it since then so don’t know if same problem would happen with that as well. I just thought there was no limit on the regular chest, but if i’m wrong some 1 please correct me.

I have this problem with Siverpeaks and Maguma. Can’t find them, don’t know what they are. Wiki hasn’t helped me at all.
My shiverpeaks has 2 areas missing and Maguma is missing 1.
I’ve searched the maps over an over and can’t see what i’m missing.
For explorer title. I don’t think JP’s are included coz in some areas i haven’t done the JP’s at all and i got the completions, so don’t know maybe in some maps it’s different.

Griffonrook Run and Forsaken Halls for Shiverpeak maybe? The first is in Lornar’s Pass and the other in Dredgehaunt. Ones a jp and the other a minidungeon.

Done those, but nothing’s changed. I started a new character recently so i’m gonna have anther look as i go through the maps. it’s just frustrating being so close and unable to finish it.

Well i really hope some of these things come to fruition soon, especially new maps, i’m dying to see rest of Tyria or at least as much as possible. And yes! more story please! Can never get enough of stories, that’s what keeps me playing games.

I agree though, story parts like the Zhaitan fight could have been more interesting, things can always be better, especially after being scrutinized by millions of players, but still i think it was pretty epic when u consider they didn’t really have a lot of time to finish it b4 launch. Lots of people have made comments about cannon fight being lame, but how would u fight such a big monster in the air? cannons seem like a reasonable and sure way to bring him down.

But despite some poorly executed parts, there are some brilliant segments in the story chain and some of my favorites happen in Orr, l love Crash Landing for eg, that was so much fun. And outside Orr, Claw Island, especially the 2nd part, would have to be my favourite. I just wish there was more of it, especially those brilliant parts xD.

Oh duh, how could I forget that?
I remember now when Anet made made it possible to salvage ectos, which dramatically dropped the the price of dust. It made it possible for me to get my bifrost I had been working on for a long time. The price of dust was ridiculous at the time and needing 750 for bifrost (I had just under 250) it would have cost me almost as much as the precursor!

Seriously, my memory is lapsing, I don’t know how I forgot such an an important event, perhaps coz I needed my ectos and never tried to salvage them, or perhaps information overload i lol.

Dungeon should never close until you decide to leave, period!

Edit: btw this is how it worked in gw1, you were never kicked from a dungeon even when everyone has left, you could stay as long as you wanted to explore or w/ever and i don’t see why it shouldn’t be the same in gw2.
I’ve been kicked out of dungeons on number of occasions just b4 i got my chest or trying to grab a poi but the leader grabs his chest and leaves immediately, never bothering to ask if everyone was ready to leave. This should never happen. it’s horrible, especially when u trying to explore Arah.

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned it, but there’s a method u can get back ur starter gear. I did it for my ele eye pce.

U need an empty char slot. Start a new necro and choose the mask u want. On TP look for a low lvl plain white mask and transmute the starter item onto it with a basic transmute stone. This process makes it acct bound and then u can give it to any of ur chars.

If ur necro is lvl 80 and u have a lvl 75-80 exotic head pce u have to use Transmutation Crystal (the old fine transmute stone) to be able to transmute it onto it.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

I’ve seen the steps, but I’m not going to delete a character and then make up a disposable one just for that. The time and money (gems or gold) just aren’t worth the cost.

Though thanks for the contribution, but the way I see it if ANet is willing to sell low level weapons and armor, give GW1 vets access to skins that remind us somewhat of older armor designs, then why not give us starter skin packs to buy with in game gold?

Bah, its minor frustrations with an otherwise fun game. I’m not letting it kill my imagination with my Necro.

I wasn’t suggesting u delete any of ur chars, goodness no, i never do that lol, well it depends what lvl they are. I was merely thinking if u have a spare char slot as i did, or intend to get one then do that process b4 u lvl ur new char.

And just to show you my ele’s eye, here’s a pic, it’s very reminiscent of gw1 ele’s eye and that’s why i wanted it. Only gw1 was even better as it had the relevant elemental aura (ie: red for fire, blue for water etc) circling the head.

Out of all of them two are probably the most in trouble of just not “being right”. One is my Necro Norn and the other Sylvari Elementalist. The Norn just doesn’t look good in the armor that is listed in the 40+ level and other ones I can craft have the most stupid looking masks. I feel bad I lost his skull face from the beginning, because I should have kept it. ANet LET ME CRAFT FACE PAINT! (earlier I said masks, but that’s a bit misleading to what I want.).

3 small but imprtant questions

in Ranger

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I just rolled a new ranger and have found a few issues that seem to occur on regular basis, not sure if they’re bugs or as intended.

1) My underwater pets will not attack certain creatures such as urchins. I was doing this event in Snowden Drifts that involved clearing Quaggan village of urchins and my jellyfish just sat there taking damage but never attacking the urchins even when i commanded it to.

2) I also find pets in general won’t attack certain environmental objects or doors for eg, while they will attack others. So I find this very confusing.

3) The new Hunter Shot always cancels my auto attack. For eg: if all my skills are on CD, except Hunter shot and I use it, my auto attack stops firing until i hit it again. I know this seems like a minor thing but in crucial situation it’s quite annoying.

So my question is, have any other players found these issues? Are they working as intended or should i report them as bugs?

@ Erasculio.2914:

You kidding right? GW2 has more variety of enemies than most games I’ve played. Try playing Lotro for eg.which is a massive game with zillion maps, but from lvl 15 onwards, you fight Orcs and Goblins in almost every map all the way to lvl 85. And they’re so darn ugly and make horrible grunts and noises, I can’t stand them.

In GW2 on the other hand, just about every map has something different and a decent variety within them. Granted, Orr does have a mass concentration of undead, but I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be and how it was intended. At first I really hated the undead (and still do lol) until i got used to them somewhat.

However, I do hate the enviro effects there, we got enough to deal with without them, but I can see how it adds to the despair of the place. I sort of got used to that kind of thing in the end zones of ‘Nightfall’ in GW1, where every maps had a different enviro effect but thru the entire map not just here and there like in Orr. The art in Orr is awesome though, it really portrays the devastation that happened there but its hard to find a safe spot to appreciate it.

In GW1, I heard so much about Orr in Prophecies, especially in the Rings of Fire. But it always seemed like some imaginary place that only existed in Tyrian’s minds, although Scepter of Orr gave it some tangibility. So to see it for real, even destroyed as it is, was an epic moment for me. Then I met the undead hehe.

But like some 1 suggested in another thread recently, I would actually like to see an alternate Orr….cleansed Orr only available to those players who defeated Zhaitan. It would be like going to a resort zone where you went to recuperate after the long battle(s). However it’s done, I would love to see Orr in its former glory, for I can tell form what’s there now, it was once a magnificent place.

I also love the art in Southsun, i think its amazing. All the soft pastels, the gorgeous blooming passiflore on the cliffs and bubbling waterfalls belie the danger of the place. Before the living story i used to go there on daily basis and still do most days. It was just me, Karka and the Reef Riders. Shame they’re so annoying and dangerous if they mob you. Oh, and the drakes, I hate them more than anything. They’re soooo OP on Southsun and I generally avoid them.. But for most part, I always feel like I’m visiting a deserted island, unspoilt and wild.

The reason I go less now, is that most of the outposts have become inaccessible due to masses of enemies camping them as well as more Vets all over the map making the island hard to traverse. I guess the island belongs to Karka after all, but i must admit, I enjoy occasionally aggroing Vet Karkas onto Reef Riders and watch them fight it out lol.

GW2 Image Share

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I’ve been pondering an idea of an image share for gw2 since launch, but before I make a suggestion for it, I would like to see if the community is interested in it. If however the moderators feel it should go into suggestion sub forum right away then please feel free to move it.

I have a good idea how this image share should be laid out and how it should work, but not how it would be implemented lol.

Anyway, I thought it would be nice if Anet created an Image Share category on their official website with nice backgrounds, similar to their Living Sstory promotion pages, where gw2 players could upload their images and share their experiences of the game. This could then be expanded to include things such image ratings, top 100 and sub-categories such as comedy, aesthetics, character shots etc.

So as not to grief other fellow players who upload their images, the rating should be implemented in a way, if you like an image, you give it thumbs up, if not then don’t rate it, but there would be no negative ratings.

Each image can only be rated once ofc and not by the owner of the image and there should be a comment box available so people can express why they liked the image etc. Those images that get the highest ratings would then go into the top 100.

To keep it fresh and interesting and to give everyone a fair go, the top 100 should rotate every 4-5 week.

So after 4-5 weeks of hitting the top 100, your image starts to get phased out according to the date it received its first rating, until eventually, it would leave the top 100 all together, opening room for a fresh batch. However, each new rating an image receives, it would extend its duration in the top 100 by 1 day. So those images that get the highest ratings, could remain in the top 100 well beyond the 4-5 week rotation.

Later, if the images share really takes off, this same system could be split up and expanded into those sub-categories as mentioned above. So you could have top 100 comedy, aesthetics, character shots and so on.

I think with the game being almost 1 year old, I’m sure there would be plenty of players with lots of good images to share. I think something like this would greatly enhance the gw2 community and promote its creativity. It could be a sort of hub where people can meet, make friends and share their experiences through images.

Please express your views if you like/dislike the idea.
Thanks for reading.

I suggested way back in Beta they add what i call Lock-on-Target option, just like in GW1.
The problem in this game (unlike in gw1 where there was a collision and enemies could not pass thru you) in gw2 they can, or they go behind you, while at the same time, many skills have been changed since launch where u basically have to face the target to cast, so u end up loosing your mark that way as well. I was disappointed with these changes as i think it’s going backwards rather than forward imo.
I say that because, aside from typical rooted play, Lotro has such a pedantic ‘must face target’ casting, while enemy AI is designed to always go behind you and it’s enough to drive you crazy.

But just the sheer ability to move while casting, at least for me, outweighs this issue in gw2. However, targeting system is a big problem and really should be seriously addressed. Lets face it we fight all the time and it’s one of those things if it’s not working right it becomes a constant annoyance and rather than enjoying the game and the amazing combat system u end up feeling frustrated.
At least give players an option to lock on target and those who don’t want to use it don’t have to. I’ve seen tons of complaints about this and they won’t go away untill this is addressed and i think it should be done sooner rather than later.

Levelling Alt: When to rotate them?

I have a dream: 8 level 80 Characters (i.e., one of each profession).

I’m wondering, however, if every 10 levels is too small. Are there also perhaps certain levels where significant milestones take place? Perhaps it would be better to rotate at that point. I’m completely new to this game, so advice is greatly appreciated.

Well at lvl 10 you haven’t even unlocked ur first trait, that happens at lvl 11, at lvl 30 you unlock your first elite skill, but personally i don’t think you really get a good grasp of a class until at least lvl 20 especially if you’re new to the game.

Character Bonding Experience...?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tiger Ashante.1792

For the first few months, i did not bond much with any of my characters, i kept thinking of the ones i left in gw1 and pined to see them in gw2 (aside from some of their names).

But as the time progressed, i’ve become more and more attached to my girls in gw2. I got x8 lvl 80’s 1 of each class and have all the races. I play them all too in turn even though my mesmer has the legendary…The Bifrost.

During head start, i created some of my characters in a hurry and didn’t feel great deal of attachment to them, but once the makeover kits were released, i used them to fix those i was most concerned about and that greatly improved the situation.

Perhaps the one i was least attached to was my thief as she was one of the first ones i created and just chose a pretty much generic character, but once i gave her a make over i felt much better about her.

And yes i agree, having more customization and cosmetic options really really helps to add individuality to your chars and hence makes one feel more attached to them. But even so I still miss my girls from gw1.

This may be a bit off-topic but i think it’s quite relevant here. What especially made me get even more attached to my girls in gw1, was when they released the Mercenary Pack that allowed you to play with your alts and form an entire party of using 7 alts + yourself. It was a wonderful idea really, for you could dress ur chars in the best gear, then this NPC would take a snapshot copy of them and they would appear just the way you dressed them in the game. I had multiple sets of Elite Armor so this made a good use of it and it was just nice to see them all geared up and playing along side you. And of course, you could customize their skill builds as well and it was awesome to see them executing those builds in the field.
I totally loved it, in fact i feel so nostalgic now hehe, maybe i’ll revisit gw1 but i’ve probably forgotten how to play….it’s been a while.

Almost 7k but for the first few months i didn’t even do dailies…wasn’t even really aware of them. I used to see these little popups on the side of my screen but never knew what they were coz i was always too busy fighting or something to read them and then when i did have time i’d forget lol.

I only started doing regular dailies about maybe 5 months ago and i’ve been playing since head start, so yea lost a few points there but ah well.

Thank you so much!

Legendary Precursor Changes

OP i got my bifrost about a month ago. I’ve been playing since BWE1 and saved up all my mats since then….more or less, other than crafting a few exotics for my chars. I play a lot too over 3.5k hours so far. But i didn’t really start thinking about a legendary until maybe 6 months into the game after release as i thought i’d never get one or not for a long time anyway.

Then after I had basically done it all, i decided to put some effort into it and start seriously working on my bifrost. I saved my pennies and when i got 4 rare stakitten from events or as drops i threw them into MF on an off chance i may get the legend. But no such a luck so eventually i saved enough and bought one for 630g from the tp. By now i had most of the mats ready except the dust, then like god sent, anet makes it so the dust prices dropped dramatically and boom, i was able to get it.

I would say the hardest part for me was getting Arah tokens. It was hard to get groups and do the runs but even that i eventually got it, so yea, relax, play the game save ur gold DO NOT USE THE MYSTIC FORGE!! I can’t emphasise that enough, i know too many people who have wasted more money in the forge than the cost of the precursor. If you save your gold you’ll eventually have enough to buy one outright. And treat the whole thing as a long-term project as it was intended to be.

Edit: for some reason it treated the word (staff) as a swear word lol.
Just wanted to add, the pride you feel for actually achieving the legendary through sheer hard work, rather than gambling is much more satisfying imo and well worth the effort.

I think the problem though goes beyond just Gear. I think that there are obviously pros and cons to getting new gear, I personally like setting myself the target of getting new gear and achieving it. But also consider Runescape, getting gear isn’t really that huge a part of that game, there are so many other things to do – and nearly everything rewards you with something MEANINGFUL. Something worthwhile getting. Quests that give you new items, unlockable shortcuts, new ways to train skills, mini-games, there is just so much more on offer, so much more to do and get.

I think that is just the problem. Gw2 just seems a bit shallow in terms of content compared to it. In RS I am constantly doing something, aiming for something, and I enjoy that. I feel like whenever I log into Gw2 I just stand outside a bank and it seems loads of other people do that too.

I just don’t think Anet have got it right yet. I like the Living Story idea but I just don’t think they’ve got the balance right with content, it’s just not clicking for me.

It’s really hard to describe. It’s like, yeah, get your legendary weapon by all means, but what is there to do with it once you’ve got it? Once you’ve got the Legendary weapon, the only content available is the same content you farmed the get the Legendary in the first place.

I know what you’re saying Romeo, my biggest disappointment in gw2 is the lack of that sense of “epic” story i felt in gw1 or Lotro which i still play. There have been many poignant moments in Lotro (even after going through the epic several times) that brought tears to my eyes….i’ve felt no such a thing in gw2 except perhaps during my character creation and a few rare segments in the story chain.

I’ve never played RS but how long has it been out? I’m not certain but i’ve heard people mentioning it and it sounds as if it’s been around for a long while. You need to wait till gw2 ages to the same maturity then compare.

I remember gw1 had so much to do and there were still things i never managed to get around doing especially in pvp area. but i joined gw1 fairly late like 4 years after it was released so yea i didn’t know which way to turn, there was so much to do there.
I believe same thing will happen in gw2, but this is the price we to pay when starting out with a brand new MMO from release, which will always begin with much less content then a well-established game.

I think most people do love the differences this game offers, so much so, they’re terribly impatient and hungry for more. People are bored b/c they enjoyed the refreshing new style of gw2 so much, they ate it up way too fast and want more of new, but meaningful things to do.

I for one would love to see some new maps open up. I enjoy the beautiful world Anet has created but after leveling x8 lvl 80’s and getting 100% world completion on all of them, even this beautiful world can get a bit stale. So i’m patiently waiting for some new maps to open up and can’t wait to see what magic Anet weaves in them. I’ll always love the core game as is ofc, but i think its time to expand my horizons and see what is happening in rest of Tyria.

Well it seems to me Anet responded to this one and has made it less repetitive but it’s still too frequent for my liking. However, i’m grateful for the action on this if in fact something has been done, it certainly seems that way and i’m happy for any improvements to this, so big thank you for listening! /smile!

This was a bad idea

In the past, jumping puzzles were an optional part of the Living Story/Holiday meta achievement. The people who loved them could do them, the people who hated them could do something else.

This month, there’s an entire map of jumping puzzles, and nearly all of the achievements are jumping the map, jumping while racing(?!), jumping puzzles around Tyria. Also an sPvP map with jumping launchers & platforms.

To make it worse, the reward isn’t a useless mini. It’s a rare gathering node, which will be the only source of a crafting material. You’re forcing players to do things that are not fun in order to avoid being at a disadvantage.

With the significant size of the player base who dislike or hate jumping puzzles, making a month of jumping puzzle content was a foreseeably bad idea. Every update I am more baffled trying to figure out the thinking behind each decision. smh

Totally agree. I’m not good with JP’s i’ve done some of the easier ones but this update is almost 100% jumping to achieve the meta. I got 10/16 achievements so far but i don’t think i’ll get the meta done as the last few all involve either jp’s or difficult jumping in the new area. So I guess there will be no permanent crystal node for me. This for a player who’s been playing since bwe1 and has spent much RL money on the game, is left very disappointed in the direction the game is heading.

I would prefer for them to focus on adding a large chunk of permanent content with new zones to explore and some of these jumping activities for those ppl who enjoy that sort of stuff. That would have made everyone happier i would think.

I think you can only loot the random baskets throughout the world, the achievement baskets in the puzzles are not lootable.

At least that’s how it works for me.

Yeah, that must be right, otherwise it is rather strange that i got 3 baskets in a row and none of them were lootable. I just wish that was actually explained a bit better.

Btw, where do random baskets drop? from the enemy? I’m wondering as i haven’t found any yet.

They don’t drop. They just sit there out in the world like hologram projectors. Similarly marked with a basket icon. Interacting spawns two loot bags however you can only get them once per day even though the baskets respawn. Not sure if that is once per day per character or per account.

Cool, tnx for the replies, i just actually found some in Southsun Cove and yea just like u said, but i have no idea either how frequently u can loot them or on what basis. I guess time will tell lol.

It’s no secret Frostgorge Sound is my fav map, it’s where i’ve been going for a long time to do my dailies, but a couple of events there: search for castaways and helping the quaggans in the near by village, are total immersion breakers due to their ridiculous fast turn around among other tings.

Even bigger immersion breaker is Many Stars, making his call-out to search for castaways every minute. Seriously, he’s so loud and even louder underwater that sometimes he startles me when i have my sound turned up.

This has bothered me for a long while and i kept hoping each update it would change, but so far it hasn’t and i’ve finally decided to say something. Lately, i’ve been resorting to muting my game while i do the event or avoid it completely, which is a shame as i actually enjoy it otherwise.

We really don’t need to be told to do something every minute. Once or twice during course of the event is sufficient. Plus it would be nice if u reduce the event timers, as no sooner have u finished the event, it starts again, making u feel like u’ve achieved nothing. Or at least have it trigger according to how many people are there in the immediate vicinity, as more often than not i’m the only one doing these events and they seem to be on perpetually.

Please, please don’t make me start hating Kodan as i adore them in general, including Many Stars, but he does drive me crazy with his call outs.
Thank you.

Mesmer portal: a Liscence to Steal

Tiger Ashante.1792

Funny thing, my main is a mesmer, I’ve done just about everything with her including creating Bifrost….finally yay! But i’ve never, ever used the portal for anything even for myself, even though i’ve not completed all the JP’s. I completely forget i even have that skill lol.

I don’t like lot of JP’s due to my wireless keyboard/mouse having a small latency issue and over all, i find more useful utility to use than portal. Plus i do think portal skill is a bit of a cheat, allowing you to bypass difficult content in the game and i’m totally against any kind of cheating.

Although, as mentioned above, i have issues doing JP’s and i have to admit (due to extreme frustration) using other mesmer portals on a couple of occasions for JP’s that i spent countless time trying to do and was unable to, like the one in EB and the skipping stones in SSC. I do think some of the JP’s are very difficult, not taking into account issues like mine, or even older people who do not have such a quick reactions. Too many of these JP’s require such precision that it renders them useless to a lot of people.

On another note, I went a couple of times with some ppl to do CoF and if ur not real quick with the portal setup thru the boulders, they blame you and i avoid any unnecessary aggravation if I can, as i come to gw2 to have a bit of fun, not have the pressure of blame being placed on me of the entire group failing or succeeding in something that i think shouldn’t be abused in the first place.

Another time i went to do this same path without any portal and it was so funny trying to get through the boulders, all of us stripping our armor down, we had such laughs.

Overall, I’d much rather have the latter experience and feel satisfied of actually having done the content without shortcuts. But I do understand there are times when that skill is extremely useful, but like anything, if something is that useful it will be overused and abused, it’s human nature.

No, no! I think you’re all wrong. Have you ever seen the moves Alien and Aliens 2? I think Karka (at least the big ones) are based on Aliens for sure. The way big mamas entangles you in slime, spit acid at you, lay swarm of eggs and it’s hatchlings attach themselves to your face etc. Aliens absolutely!
On a funny note, I have some East Europeans friends who laugh whenever they see the name Karka. Aparently, if you remove the r from Karka it’s a baby talk for…ugh s…. and it’s pronounced exactly the same lolz.

Horrible Targeting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tiger Ashante.1792

Tiger Ashante.1792

I’ll have to go through the setting again and see if there’s any of those targeting ones I missed. Thanks for the heads up

In options menu there’s one for Auto Targeting. If you switch that off, it will solve your problems of for eg: RTL or other buff type skills such speeds/shields etc from randomly selecting a target around you and should take you in the direction you click on. I found that annoying as well even when using a skill on my Guardian like Retreat which is basically a speed skill it always wants to hit something unless Auto Targeting is switched off. However, this may not solve your other targeting issues and may in fact make it a bit harder/clumsier in combat but at least it should stick to your own target selection. It also helps if you enable double-click targeting that way if you double click on the target once selected, it should stick to it unless you change it.

Overall, the targeting in this game is a mess. I suggested way back in beta they have an option to lock on target and also to move you within target range like in gw1 but that was ignored and many players cried that would make the game too easy. No doubt many of those players aren’t even around any more but we’re stuck with the same old crappy targeting system that’s still here since beta, with very iffy options that rarely work as described.
