Why would some one recommend Crossover when the question clearly said that low game speed was an issue? Crossover is slower than the A-Net Mac client. I run the game in Crossover when I need to reliably use the Trading Post, but never to actually play.
Bootcamp.
You could try playing the game instead of staring at a near-meaningless number.
Give it a try and let us know how that works out.
I know that this thread has plenty of posts but I also know how company mangers work and I know that they ask “how many people are affected?” when told that something needs to be fixed. If people don’t add their “me too”, management just assumes that the problem only affects the small few who bothered to speak up.
So, “me too.” Constant freezing and quit-to-Desktop while playing after the “The Aftermath of the Siege of Lion’s Arch” update.
I am tired of red circles, laser beams from no where and jumping around like I’m Mario. I think the living story stuff has gotten out of hand and ridiculous. We skewered Scarlet Cabbage Patch Pippi Longstocking. Let that be an end to over-the-top events until the Mad King visits again.
The Scarlet story has not been made to fit well into the existing world. Lion’s Arch burns while day-to-day life outside the front gate in Gendarran Fields continues as it always has. It’s awkward and uncanny.
Bugs need fixing. Maps need refreshing. “Living Story” should mean following the ongoing adventures of the heart-quests around the maps. Make new ones. Mix them up. Give me a reason to return – to complete the new heart quests as they change.
Make the world “living” and not a strange place that never changes while UFOs, giant mechanical pole dancers and flying corkscrews appear out of no where.
Seriously ? Liberator of Lion's Arch chest
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

You know, instead of giving those random crap in every chest, they should take a note from what GW 1 and give you a “Trophy” that you can exchange for a exclusive weapon skin. The chest can just give you the Trophy with no RNG attach to it. After a certain amount of week, you could place those in the gemshop or the TP. Hell, even after you exchange your Trophy for a prize of choice, you will get an icon of it in your Personal Story log that said you did it. Here is an example as to what I mean.
Agree.
Try deleting the Guild Wars preferences files. This is a common trick for solving Mac problems.
Quit Guild Wars if it is running.
Go to your home Library folder. (Use the Go menu in the Finder … hold the Option key to reveal the hidden Library selection.)
Go to Preferences.
Find and trash the two Guild Wars preferences files. They are:
com.transgaming.guildwars2.plist
com.transgaming.tginstall-guildwars2-shipping.plist
Start Guild Wars. The two files you trashed will be re-created, fresh, hopefully solving the problem.
Reply back here with your results to help others.
The NPC in Vigil Keep, Lionguard Seraka Jaggedtail, still parrots that he / she has “fresh intel” about Lion’s Arch but is out-of-date with the current Living Story.
Casual players who visit this NPC expecting to get what it is advertising – new information – will be misled and confused on what to do. Regular players will be disappointed with the lack of congruency and lose confidence that the NPCs should be interacted with.
Seems another example of how hacked-together these Living Story chapters are.
If anyone from Arena Net cares (and I doubt that they do, content with letting this LS run its course) the hill in the center of this screen shot is a common place for characters to stand AFK.
Enemies will retreat as soon as you climb to the top, so AFK’ers don’t need worry about accidentally catching an enemy’s attention or having a fight taken to them.
GW1. My friends loved it and wanted me to join them. Then we flowed to playing GW2. I’m unsure if we would be playing GW2 if it were not for GW1, since there isn’t much of what we loved in GW1 any longer. But, it’s become our weekly get-together online game, so here we are.
I wouldn’t agree that I’m “hooked” or that “I think this game is awesome.” I play because my IRL friends play.
I’m curious if what you’re experiencing is not GW2 changing the audio settings but the Mac OS self-adjusting to the audio output of GW2 that it is detecting.
If you set the Mac OS audio to 44.1 kHz and restart, will your VSX-1022 accept it? Try different bit sizes, starting at 16 and working up. (I doubt that you need the headroom of 24 bit, but your receiver may expect it.)
If that gets your audio working, then test with GW2.
It’s just too strange that your receiver won’t accept 44.1 kHz. Something is wrong there.
When I came to the realization that the game expects you to achieve 500s in all crafting disciplines, I quickly said, “No, thanks” and destroyed the 2000 Bloodstone Dust sitting in my bank that I didn’t know what to do with.
Seriously; I spend time playing games to receive fun in return. “Crafting” is not fun. I enjoy a puzzle or challenge or need to work with others to accomplish a reward. But running thousands of make-believe bits through a make-believe “craft” to receive a different make-believe bit? That’s time hole stupid.
I expected Guild Wars 2 to be smarter and encourage people to concentrate on a few crafting disciplines then trade work with their guild mates who have levels in other disciplines. Y’know; community and working together and all that good happiness stuff.
Yea, because getting a notification at the corner of your screen notifying you a patch is complete while an app is in the background is exactly the same thing as having an app in the foreground and watching the progress bar.
So hard to click the icon in the Dock to check the update progress. I hate doing that.
If you really, really gotta know the second that the game is ready, click the “auto play” box and listen for the game music when it starts.
Notifications as in on your computer as per the title of the thread. The feature in the OS.
Specifically when the patching finishes in the launcher.
That’s what the progress bar is for. And the % count. And the files-to-go counter.
Why? Simply drag the master volume slider in the game options to 0.
Remember that you need to make system audio changes while GW2 is not running. The game does not respond to system audio changes on the fly.
The Trading Post is essentially a web page within the GW2 game.
For example:
https://tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net
I have begun experimenting with adding “*.ncplatform.net” to the “Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains” field of System Preferences … Network … Proxies.
I don’t know if this will solve or improve the Mac Trading Post issues, but it would be helpful if others tried and reported their results.
Strange that your receiver does not support 44.1 kHz. That’s a normal sample rate. I would investigate here to figure out why your receiver won’t work with this output. Try both 16 and 24 bit rates.
96 kHz is extreme. You don’t need that, unless you’re into editing raw audio from live recordings.
It’s the perfect response to having your home, your family and your life destroyed in fire by an army of creatures.
We like our tea & cookies North American lifestyle, believing that we’re better because we’ve read a good book. But when the zombies come up from the sewers and you’re having philosophical debates with yourself, the barrel of my gun will already by hot from pointing it at the face of everything that comes near my home and doesn’t look like me.
Why was there no chance to thwart the attack?

I agree. It’s a make-believe, fantasy story smushed together with a MMO video game; I know. Some big leaps of disbelief are necessary. But I was still left shaking my head at the introduction of Escape from Lion’s Arch. Was the city really that helpless?
Scarlet has been known about for months. Her robots have been attacking so often that we grew tired of the “Scarlet’s minions …” alerts coming to us out of the air. We’ve dealt with the poison beanstalk and mechanical pole dancer. We’ve talked to NPCs along the way who seem to know what was going on and told us what to do about it. We’ve even danced about her kitten ed lair, looted her stuff, read her journal and watched her TV with MAPS SHOWING WHERE THE ATTACK WAS PLANNED and the flying drill machine from Mars.
We knew about her and we knew about her plan. We’re levelled, looted and loaded. But apparently we’re still helpless.
We’ve fought along with forces with enough power to shoot dragons from the sky. The Asuran Gates are capable of moving unlimited material anywhere it’s needed, instantly. There’s a freaking genie in a bottle in the middle of town able to spit out Legendary weapons when he’s in a good mood. Not to mention the players; thousands of characters, phat with swords and spells with nothing better to do than break the stuff of people they don’t like. And they don’t like Scarlet.
I felt a “jumped the shark” moment when, despite everything we have, know and have done, a crazy Sylvari was able to ride a flying space auger with a fleet of dirigibles straight to the docks of the land’s largest, busiest city, full of armed people and destroy it without opposition. The “Living Story” stuff is becoming too ridiculous and too separated from the game and the players. If this were a D&D campaign, I would be packing up my dice.
Don’t play an MMO if you don’t like zerg content.
Do you complain about shooting and guns in an FPS?
Clearly; written by someone who didn’t play the first Guild Wars.
Buy a long HDMI cable. Leave it connected to an input on the TV and plug in to your Macbook as needed. Cheap and you won’t have to deal with bandwidth issues from trying to transmit data both to the Internet for GW and to the Apple TV.
Science we were moved from Living World into Lagging World after patch, I can’t do any zerg activities. I just recorded 2 FPS in Temple of Lyssa. I can’t do anything at there, lost loots and got kill.
How many loots we lose a day? How long shall we suffer? Should we get compensation?
Exactly, what does software designated as “beta” mean to you?
I have a MacBook Pro and an Apple TV. I’d like to use the Apple TV to show the wiki and guides, but it just shows a black screen (I’m not mirroring). Any suggestions?
By the way, I like to use the Mac because I like the way the trackpad works rather than using a mouse. Plus, it has a really good display, so please only constructive info.
Why are you trying to hack this through the Apple TV? Just connect the second display to your Mac Book … and you’re done.
Since this last patch (which is great, except the fact that the wurm is extraordinary difficult) I’ve seen too much hate on Tyria. Every day I’ve been for like 10 hrs at Wurm and/or Marionette event …
I don’t want to be perceived as adding to this “hate” you describe, but if you’re spending 10 hours a day playing a video game and putting so much worth into what people type in to the chat box of a fantasy game that you’re genuinely upset by it, maybe you need to take a break.
Don’t be so concerned with what trolls type in a chat window. The reason they do it is because it upsets people like you and they get off on that. “Don’t feed the troll” is as true here as any other online place.
Ignore or block them, as others have already said. If you’re so attached to the game that you can’t do that, you need to exit and go for out for lunch with a friend or three. Guild Wars is just a game, is only fantasy and doesn’t even exist beyond bits and bytes hopping around inside a computer. Don’t let trolls into your head.
So normal people can’t read a boss description, the map chat, or a wiki??? That’s actually quite worrisome. How do they complete their aforementioned jobs or do anything productive in these “normal” lives without a basic skill required to function in society today?
Logging in, checking out this Marionette thing that Arena Net sent them an e-mail about and reading a few helpful words in the spew that is Map chat is not going to let a normal person survive their first few encounters with the Warden champions.
Trying to understand the lane defence, why the hordes of enemies keep coming, how are they to be stopped and where are these “Wardens” that everyone was complaining about in Map chat will be the player’s first concerns.
A normal person might spend time reading wiki pages about the fight if they have an interest in trying it again next week, but that’s unlikely. The game is just a game. It’s supposed to be a fun pass-time for a few hours. They’re not going to spend time researching it. It’s also ridiculous. I continuously find it bizarre that a game RELIES on 3’rd-party websites to explain to players what to do and how to do it. Certainly, there should be some figure-it-out elements because that can be fun. But to expect normal players to try the Marionette fight more than a few times a week, researching You Tube videos and Googling for how-to guides is expecting too much.
Seriously; be thankful that it’s currently Winter in the Northern hemisphere and people are spending more time indoors playing video games. If it were Summer, you would have even fewer people bothering with this thing.
The Origins of Madness content was released only just one week ago, on January 21.
For normal people, who have lives and for whom video games are a casual distraction for weekends, this past Saturday and Sunday would have been the first time many people even logged in to the game to learn of the Marionette or Wurm battles.
Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging
YES – IT IS A BUG
When attempting a map-wide event like the Scarlet’s Minions, a player will be posting A LOT of messages, often just links to waypoints, over and over. This is how players communicate. This is how people play the game.
The game will block these LEGITIMATE messages. The chat system IS BROKEN.
YES – IT IS A BUG.
So many threads on this subject. Search is your friend.
Lots and lots and lots and lots of threads on this subject … What you seek is already here.
First (and you already said it before I): back up. You can’t use “… can’t afford to lose my programs or my data” as an excuse for not updating to OS X 10.8 while at the same time not doing regular back-ups of your stuff. Hard drives are stupidly cheap. Buy one that’s at least twice the size of your Mac Book’s drive. More is better. I prefer Firewire, but USB is the cheaper alternative. Set up Time Machine and plug in the back-up drive at least once a day.
Scolding over!
You noted that you lose connection when your power cord is unplugged. How is the condition of your battery? It’s possible that your Mac is dropping the wireless connection to a low-power state when it detects inadequate power from the battery.
Is your wireless connection encrypted? (WEP / WPA) That could also be causing a problem. Encrypting and decrypting data fast enough to keep up with an online game may be too much for your Mac to handle. Is your husband’s Mac Book the same as yours?
I also noticed that you’re running OS 10.7.5. Consider upgrading to 10.8.
I just bought the above iMac with the 3.4 Ghz i7(quad), with the nVidia GeForce 680MX 2GB GDDR5, 16 GB of RAM, and a 3TB Fusion drive, can anyone with similar specs give me their experience with this computer and the Mac client as well as FPS and the highest settings they were able to run the game at? Just want to know if I should run it in a bootcamp before I start the 15+ GB download. Thanks.
If you’re so concerned with FPS gazing and “highest settings” then you should dual-boot to Windows to play the game.
Using 2posts, apparently, I’m too loquacious!
You get bonus points for using the word, “loquacious”.
Can you try playing the game using a direct Ethernet cable connection between your laptop and router. Disable wireless for this test. This will help to determine if the problem is your wireless network or elsewhere.
Also, is your laptop overheating? Ensure that it has breathing room both above and below it. Considering using the in-game graphics option to limit the frame rate to 60 or 30 to ease the workload on the GPU and see if you experience fewer crashes.
If there is any way the client could be optimized to reduce this “load”, that would be fantastic! In the meantime, I will just try to start my longer gaming periods at a fully charged battery.
Options … Graphics Options … set Frame Limiter to 60 or 30 to ease GPU load.
Also try reducing the levels in Advanced Settings. Try the “Best Performance” preset and work from there.
Is there any way I can bind the command key (and another key, in combination, like ctrl+3) to an action, like a weapon skill? In Windows I can do it with alt, but pressing option makes it difficult to use.
You might try Controller Mate from Ordered Bytes. It allows you to map various controllers – keyboards included – to output what you want. It’s quite advanced; you can do simple key-to-key mapping or construct complex timing and logic macros.
Look, I understand what you’re trying to get across here, but if people really are seeing FPS increases from adjusting the default VRAM usage in the config file, why not just let them do it? If it works for them, it works. There’s no reason to keep saying it doesn’t work, especially when others have posted that their FPS shot up by 15-20 frames. And even if things do somehow get worse down the line due to this, all you need to do is blast the Application Support folder and let the game recreate the default config file.
Please keep your ideas about what VRAM allocation might do in the threads about tweaking VRAM allocation, not in a thread about how to fix client problems.
Thanks.
It’s my opinion that this is a part of the client-fix discussion because people are poking into files they don’t understand, attempting voodoo and possibly causing the very problems that cause their client to crash.
It is absolutely not necessary for people to do anything with the files within the Application Support folder. People are putting far, far too much importance into a single, dumb “FPS” number without understanding what it means and attributing voodoo to why the number goes up or down. It’s like the Tiger protection amulet that reputedly keeps you from being eaten by Tigers; if you’re wearing it and haven’t yet been eaten, then it must be working …
Sticking your fingers into these files creates a risk that you’ll screw them up. There is no benefit to trying to “tweak” them but doing so could result in crashing the client. This is why advice on not touching the files is an important part of the client fix discussion.
I see that you have already read the relevant posts on this subject. Here they are for others to read.

I’m not trying to install them on their computers. I just want to play from an external drive.
You’re wanting to run software on a computer that you don’t own or have administrator-level rights to. That’s a huge security problem for the person who’s job it is to keep the computers running and safe for all the people who use them.
Ask the college for permission and help. It’s the right move.
Many people are finding this solution solves problems with Guild Wars 2, which is good.
There still appears to be some confusion, however.
The instructions from Vince at the top of this thread are correct. Add to them the following:
You must QUIT the Guild Wars 2 game application before attempting to delete the folder within Application Support. The Mac OS will correctly refuse to delete the folder when it knows that an application is using it.
The folder will be re-created with fresh data when you next start Guild Wars 2.
DO NOT attempt to make “tweaks” to the files. There are no user-adjustable settings and no benefits to be had. Fracking with the files will likely only lead to future problems.
For people having trouble locating the Library folder (it was changed to a hidden folder as of OS X 10.8), you can delete the folder using the following command line. Start a Terminal session (found inside the Utilities folder on your Mac) and copy & paste the line, below. Press Enter to execute the command. You won’t see any output; the command will execute instantly and give you a new command prompt line.
rm -R ~/“Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2”
Translated: rm is the Unix remove command. The -R indicates “recursive” because you are instructing the computer to delete all the contents of a directory (folder). The ~ is short-hand for the current user’s home folder.
Quit the Terminal session when you’re done.
Have you tried deleting the ~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2/ folder as explained in this forum?
Have you tried the SMC reset described in the Arena Net help notes?
That’s for retina display
If all you’re going to do is blame your woes on a game update that others have no trouble with and your perceived second-class treatment of Mac users followed by rejecting every attempt to help you, I am exiting this conversation.
Good luck with solving your problems yourself.
Aloha Tyrians,
I am a college student trying to run Guildwars 2 on the college iMac computers. I have a external drive that is about 1 Trilobyte in disk space with USB 3.0. However, the school computer won’t let me mount the Installation file at all, so I can’t copy and save the files into my external drive to play off of the external drive. The computers here only allow admin to install programs on them, but all I want to do is install it onto my external drive! What should I do?
Ask the computer administrator at the college for help / permission to play games on their computers.
The computers belong to them and you’re just a guest using them. Ask before trying to install games and other software.
I have to say ever since the Patch the graphics are bugging out and for the first time since the beta for Mac came out I’v been having crashes while nothing system side has changed. FPS has gone down too.
I’m so sad
Did you follow the instructions, above?
