The problem is that outside the coat box and the few achievements there’s not really much reason to do Vinewrath. AFAIK, there’s no rare, exciting drops in that chest to look out for, or even a mini. This would’ve been the perfect spot to put those Mordrem weapon skins in to keep replayability high, but no, gemstore. Few bandit chests in same spot, but other than that, the same old 2 blues and 1 green from that box.

Incidentally I’ve played actively since launch and haven’t had a precursor either!

And today I salvaged 8 exotics in a row and didn’t get any dark matter!

Maybe I should just play something without luck as a factor.

(clocking up to 11 Vinewraths now without additional boxes. The game saw it fit to give me a shoulder box, though, as if to say “Haha, made you think it was a coat!”)

I’m still hopeful they will add the coat boxes to the vendor at some point for those who are just kitten out of luck. Every other armor piece is there and they must realize people will leave this event eventually.

Until then, I’ll try my luck every now and then.

My friends are pulling off a box every run even if they don’t need them anymore and I have yet to get a single one outside the first run. It’s always like this for me, why do they must put stuff behind RNG like this, why can’t it be an option with the crest vendor too?

The mechanics for this fight were fine. Once you learn the tells and patterns, it because easy mode. The complainers are the ones who are just too lazy to fight within the boss/area mechanics. I get the feeling that some players would rather have the dragon stay stationary, and not attack back <cough>Zhaitan<cough>.

Why don’t you step off your high horse for a moment and consider those not quite as skilled as you, or the “lazy” players. Is it feasible to expect that every problem is a L2P issue?

I will say this: if you manage to do rock dodger the legit way, I tip my hat to you: you are THE MAN (or woman).

My group tried for a while, then we started doing the mesmer portal strategy for one person at a time. In the end we were pretty good (2 fights, 1 was outside) in the fight itself, but if anyone wants to call us cheaters or something, feel free, it just was a lot better than endless frustration with the legit way. (also did the exploding mushroom thing the same way)

I’m still confused about the exploding onions. Is there a time limit on how fast you need to trigger them? They seemed to explode on their own, making me fail the achievement.

My problem with the plant explosions was that sometimes the boss seems to detonate them himself. There’s nothing you can do, I was far away from the AoE and I lost the credit for the achievement. If you’re meant to detonate them yourself, sure, but how can you prevent the boss from failing you automatically?

IMake sure you stand on Kasmeers time warp when his head is trapped out of the ground and you’ll reduce his health to 25% in one round! I think this is very much a learn to play issue!

I had no idea there’s a time warp. Does she tell you at some point? I do know they tell you not to kill the little adds, which leads to the shadow turning off the fire…

I’m usually annoyed with gating the story with super hard encounters. Yes I made it myself, but a lot of people I know are suffering. It is pretty hard with lots of red circles and explosions and small space to maneuvre in, especially if you’re not 100% on top of your game or play a class who can’t cope as well.

On a related note, I’m pretty tired of the whole scenario where something convenient happens and I end up fighting alone. The role of my “underlings” is to be stuck outside the Omphalos chamber / Dragon vines during the fight, or like in the Glint’s lair, for Kasmeer her role was for some reason to be stuck on her butt on the floor the whole fight.

I would imagine they’ll add the coat box eventually to the crest vendor. Every other armor piece is there already.

So far that’s been the theme, and along the coat box should be the trinket you get as achievement meta reward for those who cannot do them this time (is it me or are the achievements getting harder every release?) – I hope so at least, I’m pretty sure I will not be able to do the final fight achievements.

These cutscenes look good but I like the “loading screen” style art cutscenes more, like Daniel Dociu had, and whoever you got to draw in a similar style.

I’d rather you wouldn’t use the ingame engine for “dramatic” cutscenes though. Last season Kasmeer’s face looked so weird and elongated and now you-know-who’s face had the same effect. It’s just not meant for showing emotions.

I’m somewhat apologizing – or rather I feel bad – for taking such delight in AP grinders who want to exclusively PvE being so up in arms about this, as someone who hates cheap forms of achievement-grinds in games (which GW2 has oodles off, you could delete 90%+ of all achievement and there’d be plenty terrible ones left).

As you said AP is not meant to be exclusive. Or maybe, if you go out of your way to get everything you can. But the daily isn’t. It’s meant to be easy. It’s meant to be a cheap time sink. With the latest change, it’s made more specific. This is my point – I know it’s not hard or challenging to do those low-level events, a vista, or wait for a world boss. But it’s way more tedious. I liked it when I could do it besides whatever I normally do in-game, easy or not.

I hated the dumbing down of the game with the NPE. I didn’t like the trait system revamp. (my latest character has only the traits I use on my regular builds.) But this affects my gaming more than those, that’s why I’m vocal about it – many days I only log in to do the daily and chat with friends.

Last time they tried to recude the number of options they eventually revamped it. This time I fear no amount of “feedback” is not going to change their mind that they’re right. I’ll live with it, but I don’t have to like it.

Also, don’t feel bad for ANet changing the game in the direction you want. I’ve been hoping it for the whole time it’s been released, and it keeps going further away.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

Traveller.7496

I still feel like changing the dailies from the latest iteration was a huge mistake. I get what they are trying to do, trying to make people experience other parts of the game than they are used to. But it won’t work by forcing and removing options. It should be about adding lucrative options to try those other modes.

Now, what do we have if you mostly do PvE? A huge zerg going around low-level zones fighting for mobs for event credit or people running all over a particular map looking for a plant to harvest.

The old daily was just so perfect. I could play the game however I wanted and usually got my daily done with a small extra reward. Even the harder ones like dodging and rezzing could be done in any starter zone. Now you have to do something very specific every time. Sometimes it includes event zerging, sometimes waiting around for a certain boss (which also includes zerging).

So my solution is to change it again. Add more objectives. Make them less specific. Keep the daily log-on reward if you want, I have no issues with it. But fix the daily AP system towards the way it used to be and it’ll benefit both veterans and new players you’re so concerned about.

edit: Also I don’t want to “expand my horizons”. The game has been out long enough for me to know I don’t enjoy PvP in any form. I simply can’t understand why people think removing options is a good thing for a game or the community. I just want to have fun and do my dailies while I play, but apparently I need to “expand my horizons” or I have “self-imposed restrictions”. It’s a kitten game. It’s meant to be fun.

Here’s the thing, the previous dailies provide more options but the options themselves are very very general like “Daily Events”, “Daily Kills”, etc. The options are there but you can practically accomplish them without you even knowing it.

That was the good thing about it, though. No need for extra grind, usually you can just play normally and get it and then get a small reward for logging in and playing.

The good thing about the current dailies is how you can get them while playing and it doesn’t seem like a chore. I’d hate for a new system to change this where you have to do something very specific in a certain area (like those in the example pic) to get a reward.

I guess the question regarding the boot boxes is this – do you feel lucky enough that you can get the boots with 200 keys? Mordrem parts, once again

in Living World

Traveller.7496

Lastly, the fact that you get a mordrem part (guaranteed) whether you kill the boss or not, should also be taken into consideration. So not, you don’t have to kill them at all. You can tag the boss, then sit in a corner or die in a fire for all the game cares, and you’ll still get your mordrem part.

But it still won’t be the one you want. That’s the whole point. You could do a 100 events and not get the one you need. Will they add extractors for all parts in the next release, so people can pick whatever parts they require? Who knows. I’d like to work on my armors in this update but my horrible RNG luck is preventing it. I’d like an alternative, that’s why I suggested the extractors working differently.

Mordrem parts, once again

Traveller.7496

This isn’t temporary content. You don’t have to grind it out now and it’s not like you need it either. Alternatively, hop servers to farm breaches back to back while it’s active.

Good luck trying to complete these events successfully with 10 other people when the story has moved on from Silverwastes.

I have been hopping servers from breach to breach. The problem is that the loottable is so diverse already there’s fewer chance to get the specific items. Doing a breach after another got old in the first SW release, but I guess the alternative is to “wait until the next release!” Great!

^^ I don’t mind working for a reward. I just hate “random” as a means of getting it. I thought that’s why ANet chose to include dungeon tokens instead of a random chest drop in the end, so that “random” would not be the deciding factor. You could still get something and work your way toward the reward.

Last few releases , I’ve done countless SW events for crests, but only the first release got the balance right. There was grind, but it wasn’t too bad. Every release since has gone worse and worse.

Mordrem parts, once again

Traveller.7496

It seems like with every update it becomes harder and harder to get the ones you actually want/need. So far I’ve killed roughly ~6 bosses and have yet to get a single item that’s useful for either of the two collections (and yes, I’m using the correct extractor). And it’s gonna get even harder when they add the new parts for the last two armor pieces. I’m getting pretty kitten tired of running the events and the Breach over and over again with no parts to take me forward.

And you guessed it, I also never got shoulder, glove or boot boxes of any kind. Some people just don’t have the luck these kinds of item acquisitions require.

So what’s the solution? Simple – remove the previous items from the loot table. You have extractors designed to get the fang or the tendon, specifically! Let people who want those use the items you put up for sale! Anyone else will have a chance on getting the current collection items, you can keep the heart there as a 100 crest bonus.

I think after the 3rd flag you’re supposed to go down somewhere and jump the pillars that were featured in many of the “map break” videos. And I’m hesitant too to spend my 2000 crests, instead waiting if by some stroke of luck I’ll get them from the big nightmare chest, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I had lots of crests leftover from last chapter (over 1000), and if the grind is the same for next chapter as well, I won’t be able to stomach starting from scratch.

The dead aspect is a sort of a safe spot. Use it before they decide to nerf it. You shouldn’t get grabbed and you’re out of the trample range, but you’ll have to evade or heal through the circular AoE attack.

This fight caused me a lot of frustration too, but I finally made it. (GS shatter mesmer build) At the final moments I almost had no time to attack the boss with the tendrils and minions swamping me and I got downed twice, but got it in the end. Very satisfying, but still I feel like a tiny bit too hard for a story achievement. Your mileage may vary. (inb4 “I solo it with my eyes closed on starter gear” comments.)

Traveller.7496

The Lurcher in the story instance at least seems hard-coded into attacking the player. It even says “relentless” in its status bar. (I have no idea who it attacks if there are more than 1 human players in the instance. Probably me.)

If you engage it, you better have good DPS and CC, since your allies are basically worthless, stuck on the walls the whole time and doing pitiful damage to it.

It’s another thing that bugs me – these are supposed to be some great skilled individuals, but if left alone, it takes Rox 5 minutes to solo a jungle tendril. (and you KNOW she will aggro every kitten mob in the way and refuses to move until they are dead. Don’t take her on a speed dungeon skipping run.)

I mean, I can understand why Marjory doesn’t do good DPS, since she’s using a weapon her class can’t use.

[rant]Okay, I sorta understand why this is like how it is. It’s so that the NPC’s won’t carry bads through these instances and they want us to feel empowered, like calling the shots, like doing the damage when Kasmeer is conveniently stuck on her bum during the whole fight against the Crystal whatever (I already forgot its name) in Glint’s lair or when Marjory does zero damage to it since she’s too dumb to get the fragile buff.

But still, they are meant to be your friends and allies. Is it too much to ask they’d do their fair share of DPS, instead of conveniently stuck on the floor and walls, taking the route with no mobs through an instance (unlike you, of course) or having to be rescued all the time? [/rant]

I feel like the pact assault meter should go up a bit faster. Maybe have it progress with every completed event, not just defense (I don’t know if this is actually the case).

I don’t know what’s the problem with Indigo, since it seems to be deserted even in the evenings. Maybe it’s because people got their teragriff fangs from the story, so they don’t want to bother with the twin champs (which is surely the hardest fight of the lot)? But the whole camp itself is usually less populated than the others.

Getting Tendoms instead of Fangs REALLY?

in Living World

Traveller.7496

Yeah, I’m close to sticking the whole luminescent armor because of this. I’ve done each boss at least once, some twice, and have yet to receive a single fang. Maybe it’s better to do it with the extractor that gives you a fang for sure, but then you’ll be later for the next items.

But are they gonna just add more items to the mix with more armor parts? The drop rate for the current mordrem part is gonna be so small! Why not just add the extractor right away, maybe with higher crest price, so people would have a choice?

The library is a great nod to GW1 players. Although Kas & Mar exposition was a bit too forced in Glint’s lair. Ogden’s exposition was much better, since we could ask whatever we wanted. My character is the descendant of my GW1 characters, so it would’ve been great to ask Ogden about journeying with them on GW1… but since non-humans can use the HoM as well, it’s kinda moot now.

I also liked how people were finally recognizing you for your efforts, although I’m still not a fan being “hey you” or “boss” to my supposed friends. “Commander” at least works on a military organization.

I like Canach a lot. He’s a breath of fresh air, a character who is morally grey and has interesting character arc. Unfortunately the rest of b-iconics aren’t as interesting to me.

Then the negatives:

I don’t really like having my character blurt out stuff that’s totally out of character both for me AND the character. Namely, Marjory’s bad taste jokes (which you weren’t there to write, so don’t worry) or how snippy we were towards Canach and basically threatening Phlunt with violence.

I understand why this is done (especially if the personality system is really gone for good) but I don’t like it. Always give us a neutral way out of a dialogue. It hurts my immersion when you guys tell me “right, your opinion is this” even though it would make the narrative more easy to have it the same for all player characters.

The whole instance mechanic seemed a bit wonky to me. What exactly is supposed to spawn the bubble? Killing the facet doesn’t. They seem to appear randomly. But what you need to do is like Irmo said:

- Get in bubble
- While “Fragile” (you get that from bubble) destroy the vortex (stand next to it)
- 2nd and 3rd bosses take damage.

The colour thing is something you need for the 1st boss, and if the 3rd boss vortex is located inside a “coloured” area.
