^^ that abandoned idea sounds pretty stupid, so it’s probably true.
Of course you get it. They want to lure people into buying the expansion and generate hype with huge damage numbers and then nerf them after release when they have people already in.
Well, apart from the Soulbeast, who does not seem to get the good stuff even before launch.
I don’t understand why it’s tied to a heart vendor? It will be tedious busywork.
Better option would be to have an unidentified regular/rare/exotic gear. Then you would still get a chance for rare materials even without identifying.
I’m a casual who has basically played the same build the whole run of GW2 open world. It has brought me through the story as well, although I’ve naturally made adjustments from time to time. But it’s basically your most basic shatter build: GS / Sword+Focus with Domination 2-2-2, Illusion 1-3-2 and Chrono 2-2-3 (before HoT I ran Dueling).
I’ve tried some different things, like Sword / Sword/Pistol phantasm builds, even a condi mesmer in the last few days (Scepter / Pistol/Torch) but nothing feels as satisfying than to gather a lot of clones and then blow them up.
Yeah, I am running an Axe – Axe/Mace build on my warrior and it’s really strange that so many useful traits are so separated. I like the build a lot though so I will probably keep using it for open world stuff, but it feels unnecessary complicated to put together.
Axe + Torch works so well with a condi setup I am kind of curious to see if you can actually fit a MH dagger in there. That way you’d have to basically be melee range, although if you use traps, you’re pretty close anyway.
I was about to craft my first legendary soon (Frostfang) but maybe I should wait and see if I still want to use it after PoF arrives?
I wonder if there is a bug. I spent 40 minutes on my condi druid last night, and could not keep her alive. My kid wandered in to watch and told me I was doing it wrong because I was supposed to keep her alive. No kidding. He apparently sailed through it on his necro. I will go back in with healing gear tonight. But the sparks never decreased or stopped, just wave after wave kept coming.
I hate to be this guy, but I did on my condi ranger and did not have trouble keeping Livia alive – at this part. (on the final phase she just died and I said forget her.) I actually thought the arrow she was channeling had some kind of barrier so I basically stood on top of her and just attacked the sparks when they spawned.
It feels like they had this mechanic planned for a while but couldn’t find a good place for it so they went “kitten it” and just stuck it here. It feels really out of place.
Livia gives you a lot of kitten for someone who will instantly die in a serious battle.
I was able to keep her alive during the sparks phase but she was constantly taking dirt naps in the final phase, but I don’t think you need her alive there, just let her sleep (and take credit afterwards)
He died on the way to his home planet
- dialogue still at childish level with “oh so witty” lines that I am getting seriously annoyed
So far, I am not amused.
The Gilmore Girls type of “snappy” and “witty” dialogue annoys me a lot in the Living story. I don’t want that every character will be making constant snappy retorts all the time nor is it the way I want to play my character.
The maps and instances they have done are pretty clever but personally the storylines and the writing ruins it.
I don’t subscribe to the thought that something needs to be complex to be challenging. It’s the lazy way of design.
Please don’t make Fractals any more elaborate, there’s a reason people like the simplicity of many of the core fractals. Kinda like jumping puzzles, they’re just getting more ridiculous with every release.
They just need to add more chance for T6 leather to be salvaged from armor.
Why don’t ANet cut down on the leather requirements for crafting instead so there’s no need to add any arbitrary leather farming spots.
This whole thing reeks like putting a bandaid over a cut off arm.
I was really bummed to learn the chest resets weekly too. I guess this was common knowledge to others, but for me it meant that instead of taking it slow I’d have to spend a lot more time each week which I don’t really have. I kinda wanted the exotic WvW chest and leggings for my guard but it just seems like the costs make it such a huge grind for even a semi regular WvW player (which admittedly I am not and have never been, rank 36 so far).
The WvW itself is pretty fun and I enjoy the battles, but at the same time I’m kinda bummed that the reward is so far ahead and feels too much out of reach.
I mean, have you heard Zojja?
The V/A in the personal story has been cringe-worthy and terrible from the get-go. The Living Story has improved upon this dramatically over the years.
I don’t really agree. The human female especially sounds way too forced and overly dramatic delivering every single line. It doesn’t sound natural at all.
Shatterer fails because people are idiots and stuck to their ways. They try to play Shatterer the same way than pre-update: camping at his front leg. They don’t bring CC for the crystals, they won’t use launch pads for bombs or healing, they won’t break his CC bar.
It is a shame that they made it so the Shatterer can no longer be killed by people who just show up in the map as opposed to so many of the other map bosses like Maw and Claw of Jormag.
I strongly disagree. I actually like that it fails that way. I would also like if Behemoth and Claw of Jormag also failed if people simply auto-attack without closing portals and assisting golems. Maybe that would actually teach people to play the event like intended instead of leeching off others’ work.
I mean, it’s not like it requires advanced tactics, even Shatterer (let alone the other events). You can totally “just show up” and succeed but you just have to play smart instead of a mentality where you want others to do the work and you just gather loot.

Well, honestly changing armor stats wouldn’t be such a big of a deal if crafting an insignia didn’t cost about ~10 gold each due to hardened leather prices… crafting a separate set is just such a costly ordeal. But I guess I could run what ascended stuff I have and at least try it in Fractals.
I’ve been running a power ranger for ages, got my ascended gear with ‘zerker stats and all. I’d like to try the condi build at Fractals, but it’s annoying that the builds are so tied to gear.
I could borrow viper trinkets from my condi necro, but I’d have to settle with exotic weapons and potentially convert my ascended set to viper, which is super expensive and pretty much something I just don’t want to do. (not to mention crafting another set of ascended armor…)
I wish ascended stuff would have changeable stats too.
It’s a commonly known fact that if you care about LW achievements, you better do them in the first week or so, after that the population dwindles so much it’ll become much harder. I usually try to rush them in the first few days when there’s still a lot of people.
How much time has it passed since they’ve been dating? They’re already bickering like an old married couple. I hated it all the way back in Dry Top, when you had to do story instances while listening them bang on and on about their relationship, and the Commander’s like, could we maybe focus on this mission here? I don’t really care about your personal stuff.
I will echo others in saying that it’s more frustrating than challenging. Small space combined with one-shot mechanics makes for a bad combination.
Just put the team in charge of gemstore outfits and gliders working on this instead, so they can make something useful.
- Mesmer nerfs were too much, Well of Precognition is unusable now and alacrity reduction was too severe – maybe 50% would be a compromise. Also you didn’t add any new options or buffs
- The option to always highlight usable objects is a welcome change
That’s about it for me.
Are there really only 9 new sets of armor?

I’ve been running with my T3 sylvari cultural outfit for years. Doesn’t seem like I can replace it with this expansion either.
I’m kinda on the fence here. On the positive side, exploration is really fun. But on the negative side, if a certain event needs more players or you want to go to a specific place fast, there’s no way (since the WP’s are contested during an event) and that sucks. Note that this might become easier once you unlock the mushrooms and updraft gliding, I’m not there yet personally.

Mostly it just hurts people with alts. Going through the same motions over and over again just to try out the elite spec will feel like a chore. I don’t have a problem doing this stuff the first time around, but I will probably skip a lot of content on my alts from now on.
Space was removed from all default action buttons. Enter continues to be supported. Note that in some dialogs the default action may have been moved to another button as well.. though most, I believe, have not changed.
Oh, so this is why logging in from character screen with space doesn’t work anymore. Could you add so that it could be re-mapped, or restore that functionality? It’s a small thing but I find myself incredibly annoyed with the lack of pressing spacebar to log my character in, since I was so used to it over the years.
I’m just annoyed I can’t take GS recharge reduction and shatter damage increase at the same time. Those are both useful for my open world PVE shatter build.
I’ve completed Living story season 2 on my main. I just wanted the icon off my screen, but the game won’t allow my other character to quit Season 2, Chapter 8, “Arcana obscura”. I try to quit and it always comes back.
Reported this bug many times but there’s no fix, so am I just stuck with it forever?
This seems like a debate one should not get into, so I’ll drop it here.
Aren’t the world bosses supposed to be easy? All this does is make the whole process more fun since they don’t rely on a million HP just to lenghten the fight.
Well, I’m a bit old-fashioned in that sense, if I know it’s a guy in womens clothing, I tend to think of him/her as a dude. But if I wouldn’t know, then yeah I would think of him/her as a woman.
Mar/Kas was horribly written, and it did smell of pushing an agenda. But the alleged agenda was sidetracked by the fact the pairing reeked of bad fanfiction like many people already wrote.
Symon/Sya is one NPC. He wont talk about it
unless you ask.
Heres to hoping we see more good relationships between well written characters no matter what their orientation.
(edited by Traveller.7496)
If he was a major NPC (or even if he’s not), and the plot calls for him to die, would you treat it as any other NPC dying, or would you be outraged how ANet killed a transgendered character? If you said yes to the latter question, then you are not ready for equality.
I’ll wait for full maps until I give my judgment, but it does seem like the maps here will follow the living world trend – they are smaller in size and more action-packed than launch zones.
I for one hate that. I disliked Silverwastes enough because there was always some mob trying to kill you no matter where you went. There can be a map which is an active warzone and full of dangerous challenges and still have room for quiet exploration.
I think the underlying agenda here is to intimidate gold buyers to stop what they’re doing, but at the same time in a way that will keep them as customers (as in, not outright banning them). Maybe they will start buying gold directly from ANet now.
It is in a pretty poor taste considering recent events, but I’m much more offended that the whole thing is pretty lame compared to past years’ April fools.
I don’t see a reason to constantly change the trait system. The first iteration was just fine, then it just got more annoying for people that made their characters after the infamous april 15th. I think having grandmaster traits work with the new system would’ve been fine though, those are meant to be special and you would need to work a bit to get them all over the world. But completing a zone you otherwise didn’t even step into to get a tier 1 trait you wouldn’t even use? No thanks.
I’ve finished the achievements ages ago on my main character, but for some reason the latest story chapter shows up on every alt and I can’t quit it no matter what. When I quit, it just pops back up after a moment. I just want it off my screen! Is there a solution or is this a known bug?
They don’t certainly look like Mursaat, but like mentioned, very few GW1 races have kept their look. They might still be something else, maybe Seers or Margonites, or in worst case, something new ANet just invented. Still, it would be a waste to not to have Mursaat in a story focused around where they are supposedly hiding.
I’m still telling myself it’ll just be a the season 3 of living story so I won’t be disappointed too much.
But I will be.
The best thing about the old system was how flexible it was. You didn’t have to go out of your way to do something very specific, or worse, tied to a certain time of day. You could play along as you normally would and do events, gathering, rezzing, dodging … in any zone you want! It was great! I like the new log-in rewards, but I wished they’d keep the AP system as it is – even if it means I would get less AP than I do now!
Again, if you want to entice people to try out different game content, you have to add more rewards instead of removing the players’ options and/or forcing them!
One more fun evening of not being able to play with friends, instead getting super lag, log-on server failures and finally kicked out of the game & unable to log back in.
One would think they’d know about this by now and would come up with a solution? Since it’s always in the evenings in central EU time, it must be an issue with capacity. Too many players – servers can’t hold it.
Leveling as an arbitrary sense of progress has outlived its purpose. I’d agree that they should do away with levels altogether.
You don’t have to be near the boss to get the reward, even if you WP back and are on your way back when it ends, you get the credit if you did enough before you died. So don’t stay just because you want to get the reward.
It does suck that the WP is so far in this case but I personally feel like a mooch if I just lie there on my lazy kitten waiting for others to drop the fight and get me up (because I was stupid and died), ergo, I run back every time I die, unless there’s a huge zerg that can rez a fully-dead person in seconds. Which is not the case in SW.
Although I sure would like some confirmation from ANet how scaling & being dead actually works. What’s the timer on the downscale/upscale? Can we stop shaming deads who refuse to WP or keep pressuring them?
There needs to be a balance between getting a reward and working for it, and it’s hard to maintain. GW2 doesn’t certainly give things to players too easily, and there’s a lot of frustration about the RNG. The players need to be able to bite that carrot dangling in front of them every now and then to keep motivated, in order to feel at least a bit rewarded for their effort.
If we are to use the famous coat boxes as an example, you either get it or you don’t. If you don’t, I doubt you feel rewarded by the plethora of blues and greens you will get. I still feel like they will add it to the crest vendor eventually, and I understand why they don’t want to do it right away – people have saved up their crests. Maybe a middle ground would work – you get tokens from killing the different lieutenants of Vinewrath and once you have them all, you can exchange 1000 crests for a coat box, if you don’t get a drop? Or something.
And by no means I’m advocating that everyone should have everything. There needs to be prestige, something that’s obtainable by high skill, like a raid armor set or weapon skins in other games. Prestige shouldn’t be foremost available by luck. (or course, someone will claim that there should be no prestige but that’s a debate for another day.)
