Daily Orr?

Traveller.7496

Yes, I too am aware that it’s not hard to get those 5 categories even now. But the point remains: why remove variety and options? The last time they changed the dailies they made a big deal how they wanted to give more options so people wouldn’t have to go out of their way to do a few specific dailies and it wouldn’t feel like a grind. Well now they removed those options again and went back to doing very specific set of dailies. This is what I don’t understand.

Daily Orr?

The idea of using achievements to get people around the game is a good one. The only people who might complain about this are people who want to do more than the five dailies.

In case you missed the feedback topic, there’s quite a lot of people who are opposed to the removing of daily categories, most of whom are not concerned about AP itself but rather the removing of quality of life and the option to choose from plenty of different daily options, be it PvE, PvP or WvW.

Let us assume for a moment that the theory is correct and ANet wants to “encourage” players to try out different game types. The whole approach has a big flaw in it from the get-go: this “encouraging” (or forcing) is done by removing other options, as in via negative encouragement.

For me personally, that kind of approach always sparks up a negative counter-reaction of cramming something down my throat by force (case in point= Scarlet and other Living World NPC’s) rather than allowing me to discover it naturally or by positive encouragement : maybe by adding enticing rewards, perhaps weapons skins that even a PvE player would like. Do you see my point here? Which is better, take away something and force people or offer lucrative options without taking away previous ones?

By the way, check my sig. It’s totally true.

I have always tried to make my feedback constructively, and I feel giving critique is always better than blindly loving everything companies put out (i.e. “if you don’t like it, stop playing” or the “Best update ever” – syndrome). All the feedback topics opened by ANet themselves are full of good feedback and very solid concerns and if the OP simply wishes to dismiss it as baseless complaining, it’s your loss.

Many people are very honestly worried about the direction of the game with the latest changes and want to voice it – surely it’s better that way than nobody caring at all? What you call “overwhelming negativity”, I call simply concern for the game and for the direction it’s moving.

Don’t belittle peoples’ passion, even if you don’t agree with them.

So, because a one guy somewhere abused his AP gain privileges, the right course of action is to punish everyone else.

Is that not an unsound argument?

Well, I’ve said my piece constructively already, but I still would hope for a dev clarification on the subject, explaining why the change was made.

And yes, it was highly annoying going to Thaumanova and seeing a group of people rezzing NPC’s so fast you couldn’t get a single one done. Another by-product of the new update which downgrades our quality of life with two birds on one strike – megaservers and lessened daily numbers.

They can remove the AP from the dailies past 5 that count for all I care. Just give me the same options to do different ones each day that were there before this update.

And why is it that a system must be based around some alleged person’s obsessive-compulsive disorder? There’s not even an abuse or exploit here, since the dailies giving AP is a system built in the game that’s working as intended. There’s even a limit for the dailies implemented.

Again, if someone wants to do all the possible dailies every day, let them. Have an intervention or something if you think it’s detrimental to them. But don’t punish the majority of players who enjoy having lots of options to do dailies.

One other puzzling implication of this whole thing is the comment that the ANet devs made (regarding WvW, but still) that they want to boost server pride. And yet, they release a feature which removes all the elements from our server pride we have learn to know – that is, players that we recognize. Where is my pride for Gandara, if I don’t see any Gandarans around when I play?

Well, there you go. I would say that the number one complaint is that the system … doesn’t actually work! You won’t get grouped by your language group, your guild, your party… even your server! Just a bunch of random people who – in the case of us euro folks – tend to speak all kinds of moon language.

I’ve always taken dailies as something I can do in my own time even if I don’t have much time to play. Doing fractals and dungeons and PvP stuff for dailies is just not always possible. Dodging a few times, gathering something or killing a champion is. That’s why it was so good to have so many options to choose from, there was always something you could do fast – and after you were finished you still got some other daily objectives done just by playing normally.

Yes, it’s a very puzzling and unwelcome change. Remember last time they updated it to have more options? They said they wanted to give people more chance to finish the daily with lots more options than previously. And now they take those options away again. It didn’t feel like a chore, since you had so many options before. And now it feels like a chore again.

Who the kitten cares about leaderboards? (if that is truly the reason behind this) I just want the daily to return the way it was.

(also, removing daily activity from the dailies list is sure to boost the number of players doing the activity … NOT)

I think I’ll just stick to what I’ve been doing so far and swap my armor on manually depending on what I feel like.

Theory: "Key Farm" getting nerfed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Traveller.7496

Traveller.7496

If it gets nerfed because of these changes, then it was probably not intentional.

Of course it will be intentional, no need to be naive. Most people who farm keys will not buy them from the store even if the run is nerfed (I sure won’t) but if they get even a few people buying, they’re already won.

Although I do have to wonder why now, since the whole key farming thing is not very efficient time-wise and has gone on for a long time.

Doing events is the best way to level. A long event chain can give you half a level worth of exp.

Also, collect all the resource nodes and do some crafting. Not to mention personal story when you’re on right level, it’s also a good deal of exp with some good rewards (like BL keys).

I once again have to quote myself and say that this is not about Scarlet (or wanting to “save” her), even though the dialogue is. It’s about answering a question in a RP sense and that all options were basically the same: stupid jokes, which do not fit in some of our characters’ mindset.

Sure, some of you are saying: Go on. Uh-huh. Just click the dialogue, it’ll go away, and you get your loot bags. It’s just a game, don’t take it too seriously. And that’s what I did. But I still feel like I want to answer to every dialogue option the way that’s natural to the character I’m playing, and to some extent, me. This is what was lacking here, and that is what I’m arguing.

This – and many others you listed – is my concern as well. I would think you can still sell the ones you don’t want or have already unlocked in the TP. In which case this would work just fine. But if they make all dyes truly account bound, what the kitten are we gonna do with surplus ones we already have? Toss them in the mystic forge and hope we get a better one?

Oddly enough, there’s a topic here with people saying they were moved to tears by the graveyard & memorial scenes in LA. Personally, I’m not as invested emotionally in the story, but I don’t go around saying that they suck for liking it.

For those that are saying, “It’s just a game”, “It’s just a movie”, “It’s just a book”, “It’s just a song” … quality works of fiction & literature and art can always invoke emotion in us. I’m not exactly sure if the emotions invoked in the case of Marjory’s lack of tact and incredibly awkward joke options were what the devs were going for, but kitten it, for me it was thought-provoking, more than all of the hero teams’ little adventures put together.

Know why? I said it before, I couldn’t care less about Marjory, Kasmeer and rest of their scooby-doo gang. But I care about my character. In a RP sense, none of those options are those I would say. And this is still a RPG, want it or not. I want my character to say things that make sense in the context. They should’ve put there at least one “respect the dead” – option.

I can understand that some people don’t like the living story and are unhappy with it – especially with today’s patch. But honestly: if you don’t like it then don’t play it. Nobody is forcing you to do so.
And while I do think it is important to give feedback and that everbody should be allowed to express their dissapointment, people should keep in mind that all these content patches ArenaNet delivered in the last couple of months haven’t cost us a single penny. So either take it or leave.

So, how am I going to know if it’s good or bad if I don’t even play it?

You kinda contradict yourself there, first you say it’s important to give feedback and then say if you don’t like it leave it. So only feedback allowed is positive? I’m sure even the good folks at ANet would correct you on that one – to be able to grow and better yourself, one must receive and process all kinds of critique – as long as it’s constructive.

Honestly, I’d wish people would stay polite in this thread since like you said, it’s important to give feedback. A lot of people are disappointed about the ending (and LS in general) but still, keep it civil. (it goes for you too, Feothyr.)

Epilogue: That's it? (spoilers, obv)

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Traveller.7496

Traveller.7496

Oh, and I forgot to mention all those options for Marjory’s question made me cringe. In a RP sense, my character wouldn’t have said any of them.

The thing is this. All throughout the Living story, the devs and those who liked it have said “wait until the end, it’s gonna get better” … “you can’t judge the story in the midpoint” … and so on. And now it’s ended and I’m left with confusion and disappointment. I have kept an open mind, wanting the story to pick up, to be good. But I think now it’s safe to say that most of the interesting plot-points were left alone and what we actually got was a big mess. (literally and metaphorically).

But if you tell me now “just wait for season 2, it’ll surely be awesome now that they learned what NOT to do!” – I may just run out of polite responses this time.

So, only thing that we get is the “heroes” stand around in a bar making jokes. The PC tells them it’s a Dragon and Kasmeer is surprised. (has she been living in a barrel?) Then Marjory’s sister comes in (?) and drops a hint about going to Brisban wildlands, which is about the only interesting thing about this. After standing there and listening their yammering some more you get a reward (which you deserve) and can leave. And you’re left hanging with a feeling of … lacklusterness.

But yes, I was really disappointed that so many plotlines were left unanswered and the focus was on these NPC’s the devs are trying hard to push as interesting characters. So fitting end to the living story, I guess.

Please note that Orr is a mini-zombie apocalypse. Whoever is slain by Risen turns into one. Do you expect the Pact to kill every single undead without casualties?

I’m not the expert on lore, but I thought that Zhaitan was the force behind all the risen and that they don’t follow generic zombie movie tropes. Now that Zhaitan is gone, you’d expect there to be less risen?

This will sound terrible and will bring out the legions, but I think completing the meta for the LS should reward a player with a weapon skin of their choice from the entire event. One skin out of all the ones we’ve had. Anybody worried about the economy it would recover. I bet more people would use their freebie on an actual weapon than sell it anyway. So many great skins out there that only the super lucky or super rich can get.

How is this “terrible” ? This was standard practice in GW1. The lack of good rewards for completing story content is quite apparent in GW2. I think the only time they got it right was the original Karka queen event, where the fight felt epic (if you managed to get in without DC’ing, that is) and the rewards were fitting. But what do you get for killing the main villain responsible for a year of torment? Greens, blues and one rare. The same as doing a world boss event which repeats every two hours.

I’m not asking for a legendary weapon to drop, but something a bit more memorable and epic would’ve been nice. Scarlet’s 20 slot bag for everyone? One Scarlet themed weapon skin?
