The first personal story once you get into VB gives you the first tier of gliding. Easy peasy

Funny. Only got me half a bar. Not that it’s not easy, but disinformation serves no one.


If the story did not give you gliding, run north from the initial waypoint and try to do events around the Itzel village in the trees. It’s possible to run there without gliding or mushroom jumping. Once cycle should get you enough XP to get gliding, then you should work on Gliding 2 (Updrafts) and then mushroom jumping.

Hmmm…. I may have had a booster on, to me it appeared to be part of that first story line where you either save the sylvari or defend the wreckage because you get that huge chunk of mastery xp at the end. guess not…

Draknar do you run a Nike Warrior in WvW, just curious? Honestly, replies like yours make me wonder exactly what kinds of builds people run. 3 condi removals, 2 stun breaks, and a block/stab all within 10 or so seconds. Not all professions have access to that kind of rotation and quite frankly I can’t imagine sacrificing that much DPS in PvE even if I am running a profession that can be traited that way…

Btw you just need to remove ONE immob or ONE stun if you time it right, every class also has access to dodges (btw they are like defensive CDs that recharge super quick and can EVEN stop you needing to take more than one stun break or condi cleanse WOW).

I cannot believe you people are soooooo desperate to fail and get Anet to change things you are willing to ignore all the skills you can take to help you out your own hole.

Lol, have you even set foot in the new maps? Something tells me no. But hey, maybe you. can tell me your secret to getting multiple mobs to synchronize their cc’s so I can use one cleanse for all of them. That for sure is a skill I need to learn. Teach me please.

Mob 1 casts the CC (lets say it hits cause you’re having trouble not believing people can dodge), mob 2 begins to cast its CC (oh no!! a CC lock is inc!) YOU USE YOUR REMOVAL AND DODGE! (hey you basicly just dealt with 2 CCs with 1 skill) OR!!!! (clever bit) if both were immobs you can even let it hit THEN use your removal (tbh I have played all the content without any condi removal but not for everyone).

Btw the reason the mobs are syncronised it because I have pulled them at the same time, if they are out of sync I use a CC of my own (shock horror we have those :o) to then force them onto the same timer (they both recover at the same time and let you aoe rupt them together until they die). You can even pull lots of things to a corner or run back the way you came in order to group them up. They are AI … TRY to act like a human and you’ll hopefully outsmart them.

I haven’t even mentioned blinds (also a good thing to use). EVERY SINGLE CLASS has weapon skills which provide avoidance (also good). EVERY SINGLE CLASS has CC (also good).

I am shocked at how completely clueless you are at playing the game and then you have the LAUGHABLE comeback that I haven’t even been in the new maps – just PRICELESS…

As for anyone saying “you lose DPS” please tell me what the hell you’re doing with your weapon skills to be so dependent on utilities for DPS? (I would point out my examples are actually DPS increases due to hitting multiple foes together) Also are you running around in Magis?

I hope some of this can help you at least consider methods of fighting other than pushing 1 repeatedly and trying to put banners up for yourself.

Awesome!! thanks a lot, gonna print this out and keep it next to my computer. I’m gonna get good, but it IS hard to move around and click my skills at the same time but I can do it pretty well.

HoT maps are challenging, and at times overly annoying due to it. It is a LTP issue cause you have to adapt to them or you will fail.

If you are having issues surviving the maps you need to rethink what you are doing.

Also note, HoT was NOT designed to be solo’d, I dont care what anyone says. So if you are trying to take on 5 snipers alone, you will probably fail unless you are running a heavily based CC build with some survival setup.

I don’t absolutely disagree with you and it’s definitely not a survival issue, it’s more like each mob was designed independently, fine. But the actual spawning mechanisms don’t really account for overlapping encounter types, or multiple spawns of vets or elites. Like at one point I am on my way back to the main group in DS, I’ve already made past some other mobs, I have no dodge available there are 2 husks and one of those large rolly polly dinosaurs (all vets), I get 3 sec imobe from one of the husks, then I get feared by the dino, then the second husk immobe, then the wave attack form the dino and that is pretty much it. This is really not that uncommon, I survive about 80-90% of these situations, but the rate at which they occur just sometimes takes the fun out of the game. It’s more like work to get to a place on a map where I might participate in an event or a meta where I MIGHT get a green and a blue and I am certainly not getting anything from those annoying mobs if I stop to kill them. Maybe it’s the fact that the fun quotient when I work my way to where ever I manage to be going, somehow isn’t compensating for the effort. And it’s not like these mobs have low HP… With the exception of smokescales and snipers…

I don’t think any real changes will be for the better. It’s apparent the ANET crew simply does not understand WvWers. There is a vid of someone from ANET saying that WvWers enjoy PvE. So, we have scribing for WvW upgrades and a PvE event dead center of the borderlands.

People tend to ignore (or actively dislike) things they don’t understand. I think WvWers feel ignored and disliked by ANET. There may be a few on the WvW team at ANET that “get it”, but they have to answer to people who don’t.

In the end, I think 2016 will be just as bleak for WvW as prior years, and most likely worse. We now have borderlands maps that are anti-WvW and it will stay that way. Instead of 1 active map and 3 semi-active maps, we have 1 active map and 3 empty maps. I don’t see how Guild Wars is an appropriate name for this game anymore when all ANETs efforts go into PvP (single/small combat), and PvE.

That is NOT “someone from Anet” the guy in the video is MIKE O’BRIEN the CEO of Anet. So the problem with WvW is how upper management think about it. I think there are at least some Devs that have the right ideas, but Mike O’Brien and Co. have other ideas and those ideas are the ones that we get…

Banners are a privilege, you work hard to obtain them and their existence is legit! Claiming a keep, tower or SM finally means something, having a banner means that you are working hard for your guild which reflects on the ground and gives you an advantage.

When our group of 20 players is pushed by a mindless blob of 60, i’d love to have a banner or two on my side, that’s the balance i need to take out such a blob. almost on every encounter with enemy servers the opposing group had a banner carrier on their side.

Banner skills can be avoided and dodged just like any other skill, stay on alert and have some environment awareness and you should be fine, adapt instead of moaning.

The problem is that this 60 man blob will have 3 banners.

You generally dont even have to taxi if you just get on a map within 2 or3 minutes of it resetting, more often than not it will get organized and finish the entire meta. www.gw2timer.com has all gw2 events in your timezone. It’s super useful for all events in Hot and tyria such as Tequatl

Look, read my post, but please stop reading your own ideas into my post thank you. I dont think HoT is too hard. Personally I find the entire DS meta to be excellent, even the run in a circle massive mob spawn and that is certainly a bit overkill and annoying, I dont mind it one bit. I run it regularly. I run full zerk and don’t have to respawn more than a few times from start to finish. So please, I KNOW how to play.

Anet should close that chapter until they work out the bugs, instead of letting people waste hours trying to finish it. Personally I am 1 for 5 completion thats 80% bug out… completely unacceptable.

The way Anet develops content, no discussing anything before its done leads to the major problems with the new map and maps like EotM. I am pretty sure Mike O’Brien and upper management feel that this is their game and player feedback is only for very minor tweaks. We are supposed to play what they give us because they define what the game is supposed to be. That’s how the PvE side works. I think they have been forced to take feedback seriously in PvP to build up esports. Now we see a whole batch of suggested changes coming to WvW in “early 2016”. Does that and the “overhaul” represent a change in design philosophy, or just lip service. hard to say, clearly the advertised changes are damage control, as I am sure WvW participation is at an all time low that is far worse than Anet expected

I think if you do the next personal story line, where you choose to defend the crash site or rescue the sylvari that gives you a big bunch of xp which gives you the first level of gliding. It’s pretty easy and fast.

PvE cc is cute. If you really want to experience CC in this game, put a foot into pvp. Being feared into gravity well into dragon’s maw into thunderclap just to be randomly dazed by a druid right before being knockbacked by DH longbow into another gravity well because F5 is AMAZING ! Taunt is cool too.

I used to PvP but that game mode along with WvW is even more broken than PvE

It takes a lot to get just one of the banner your not going to see them that often and when you do you out right kill the person holding it making sure they do have another for some time. The problem atm is with chron who can double up the banners effect (though i must say chron and its effect has destroyed a lot of balancing in wvw and i guess spvp).

Just like guild catas are expensive, but there are guilds that throw them down like candy. I don’t think the crafting cost is going to limit their use…

Not even close to a real point to be made with your argument. What banners are is you need a upgrade in the guild hall the right level of keep 1-3 and a 15 min cd witch is the duration of the banner it self. So its one guild one banner and that it that alone keep banner a rare thing.

Well, they already very common in WvW so I’m not really sure what game you are playing? GW2 right?

So sad, many of you have absolutely no idea, or perhaps just don’t want to admit the reality of what I am talking about. That’s fine, I have no problem getting through the content full Zerk, but the sad truth is that it doesn’t matter if you run glass cannon or tank, the spamming of hitpoint sink mobs with excessive cc and condis just doesn’t equal engaging gameplay for me, and a lot of other people. So please continue to tell me it’s a LTP issue, when in reality is it’s a game design issue, one where Anet took a very lazy path….

IT IS NOT A LTP ISSUE. There is no build to counter back to back to back immobes. Or fear, then immobe, then knockdown with significant damage, then immobe again etc… It’s fun to play issue. I never said I can’t do it, or respawn, rally, or get; ressed. I can make it through all the meta events just fine on all the maps. It’s BORING and frustrating because in many of these situations you have very little control over it.

Harper and Yargesh, If you want to play that kind of content and YOU think it’s fun, good for you. Just like Mike O’Brien said about no one just plays world vs world, you are the minority in this game currently, as far as I can tell. There is a reason why my post is not the only one of it’s kind, and yours are a lot less common for HoT…

edit* And lets not forget this is all happening alongside a near constant spamming of condis, torment, and confusion by the mobs. Tell why does a tenderil have over 30K hitpoints with evasion? it’s absurdly stupid, not challenging

Not to mention Guild Catas got nerfed for balance reasons. Of course, banners are the new thing in town and they want folks to buy the expansion and spend gold.

I KNOW how to stay alive, and I can counter the snipers, but you can’t counter cc 4 or 5 husks that spawn along with those snipers. AND, I may be wrong but all the mobs in HoT seem to have double or more hit points vs tyria, and more immobes and knock backs or knock downs…… This is not a LTP issue, this is a bad game mechanics getting spammed everywhere under the guise of “challenging”. It’s really not a challenge, it just takes longer, and you have to respawn, rally, or get ressed more often, it’s just not fun.
I am also over the noxious pod scramble. After spending over an hour doing the DS meta do I REALLY have to run around and avoid mobs trying to open the very few of these things that are available? Again, NOT FUN. HoT has taken all this kitten to a new and obnoxious level. And don’t get me started on THE GRIND. Everything is a grind now… grind map currency, grind achievements, grind adventures, grind guild halls, grind grind grind grind grind….

It just isn’t fun to be continously batted around by the insane amount of knockbacks, cc, and instakill damage in HoT. Spawning 5 or more elite snipers in one area? REALLY? This “expansion” was a rip off.

One thing I forgot to mention about the turtle banner is that skills 1-4 are castable while moving. While skill 5 does not have a cast time, it has a ~1.5sec animation during which you have to stand still for it to cast, but since the aoe circle is so big it doesn’t really affect much.

I think it’s safe to say that we all agree nerfing banners is a must. Unfortunately I don’t expect anet to do anything till the big overhaul is out.

At least your expectation is the right one. I suspect that the banners are here to stay. The map will remain as it is with the very minor change to upgrading outlined in the post by Gaile, which I might ask, where the kitten is John Corpening? He can’t spend 5 mins typing up and posting that? There is something REALLY WRONG with Anet, why “Early 2016” that could be Feb or March. The response was overwhelmingly positive, yet I suspect we won’t see the changes implemented before February.. I used to be salty about WvW now after HoT I am salty about the entire game…..

The banners are ridiculous. They have no place in WvW. So many gimmicks so little map in the new borderlands. The new borderlands were clearly never play tested in any real way. One would think Anet would have learned SOMETHING after the disaster that is EtoM, but no, clearly they didn’t Thank you Mike O’Brien.

I couldn’t disagree more … I like wintersday primarily because of the jumping puzzle. It is actually quite consistent, and only rarely do you see any glitches.

I can’t say I’ve seen this bug, but if the field is full of presents then I’d normally just jump immediately anyway which may make it harder to notice.

there is an excellent video that shows as you approach the presents from the gingerbread man path it causes a bunch of presents to explode… doesn’t happen on any other path

I don’t wish to derail this thread, but since I was addressed specifically, I’m not actually a wvw forum specialist, and haven’t been since early October. They just haven’t fixed my forum title yet

To keep this on topic, I say HELL NO to manual upgrades in any form. Too much abuse, too many people who don’t understand upgrade order, too many ways that it can and has gone wrong. Auto upgrades are fine with the change. I do not wish to go back to the days of someone starting fortify before anything else because they clicked wrong or just wanted to keep you from having anything else. Sorry, no.

Manual upgrading for the camps, keeps, and towers would not be able to be abused. It would be a simple change that would require a player to manually activate available upgrades, rather than having them automatically activate when available as they are now. They would be the same upgrades that happen now, only the structure would sit at the “upgrades ready to activate” state until a player essentially pushes the button.

I like pretty much all of the proposed changes, however I don’t think anyone can really know how the no res in combat and only one rally off of a kill will play out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do an event week with the rally and res changes BEFORE anything else right away. That would be very helpful to evaluate things and allow for a little tweaking of the mechanic as needed. Hell, do a week with all the changes and then collect feedback, that would awesome.

Yeah, I get that. Not having to cue up things, or rush them via influence is a great thing, I am definitely not saying that those things are worthless, but most of them were already available to a developed guild. We are basically paying a very large sum of gold for the new convenience plus a few this and thats.
That coupled by the massively overpowered nature of some of the tactivator upgrades. All of the banners are more than OP. So basically, if you have a huge guild that can afford to get all the upgrades and buy the banners it’s going to make the guilds who can’t afford those things even weaker… It seems to be getting dangerously close to pay to win… Farm to play…

Uhh.. except it’s content. Everything in the game is CONTENT that we PAID for. There is nothing in the game that you “are required to do”, you can make a toon and just stand around in the first map. Last I looked, GW2 was an MMO right? “Not easy” and “Undoable” are not the same thing. The adventures are garbage content thrown at us because making REAL MMO content is harder than Mario Bros. It has nothing to do with the difficulty of attaining a collection.

There are few games that just give you all the content upfront just because you paid for it. Those that do are generally not much fun.

Adventures are garbage is an opinion. One that I disagree with but you are welcome to. I also think dungeons are garbage content but I’m sure tons of people disagree with that too.

You are welcome to your opinion about but trying to make out that you deserve this item that you cannot obtain because of extraneous circumstances just because you paid for the expansion is unreasonable.

That’s fair, but bear in mind we aren’t talking about 3% of the playerbase here, it’s more like 30% and A LOT of people accomplish JPs via a mesmer friend. No mesmer is going to be able to get you through an adventure. And I am in no way saying that doing these collections should be made somehow easier. I just think there should be a non-JP, non-Adventure substitute for any collections that have them. That would be fair and not shut out a lot of people. Even though I would love to have the Wintersday shoulders I am not even going to bother, last year I spent a significant amount of time (>3 hours) trying to do the WD JP, I never got close, I finally had to admit that no matter how much time I spent trying to do, I would not achieve it. So, I won’t be able to get a skin that requires doing it 3 times… I can’t even get it done once. Based on your comments, I am assuming you have no problems getting things like the WD JP done, good for you.

So how much did it cost to get back a guild upgrade (+5) that your guild had previously? Granted it is permanent now, but still amazes me that we are dumping so much gold in the the Grind halls for not really all that much in return….

Uhh except it’s not required, it’s a collection. It’s not supposed to be easy… There are a LOT of collections that require you to do jumping puzzles (Just did parts of Mawdrey that requires you do multiple jumping puzzles and mini dungeons).

Uhh.. except it’s content. Everything in the game is CONTENT that we PAID for. There is nothing in the game that you “are required to do”, you can make a toon and just stand around in the first map. Last I looked, GW2 was an MMO right? “Not easy” and “Undoable” are not the same thing. The adventures are garbage content thrown at us because making REAL MMO content is harder than Mario Bros. It has nothing to do with the difficulty of attaining a collection.

What are you talking about, Anet clearly stated a couple years back that jumping puzzles were never intended to be required and that they would never make them required. I am sure the same is true for the Adventures. This would be completely counterproductive and would likely alienate a significant portion of your players. Who would do something like that?

It was a pretty neat trick that Anet pulled, basically resetting all the work we did to build up our guilds via missions etc.. and then getting us to pay huge amounts of gold just to get back to where we were… At the end of the day, how much time do we even spend in the guild halls? What is it we are paying for, the arena is the only unique new thing I can think of… Honestly, they offer very little more than what we had before considering the enormous sums of gold we are all dumping into them…

I’m just going to say i agree with a good chunk of what Fin is saying and I just want to leave this here and ask what was Arena Net thinking when they added this to WvW:

Turtle banner is just as bad. It seems pretty obvious that the design team focused on style rather than function. And it’s overly focused on PPT as well, with NO REAL TESTING on any of it. Then we get all of our guild upgrades taken away, if that wasn’t a big middle finger to any WvW guild I don’t know what is. Then we get Grind Halls and have to pay to be competitive, cuz if you ain’t got yer Centaur banner….

Well, after trying many many times to complete the WD JP last year and failed, I can see that these shoulders will not be available for me. I’ve never even done it one time let alone 3.

I agree. My only addition would be that changing the map is probably more labor intensive than going back to Alpine. Alpine wasn’t a favorite of mine but it is a superior WvW map even if the Deserted map is changed.

Wow, I think I agree with this… back to the same old map. Now we have 2 huge very labor intensive WvW assets that are not going to be used in WvW… Personally, I think Anet is lost. Apparently Mike O’Brien has his fingers in EVERYTHING and no one is given enough responsibility to take concepts from idea to finished product without O’Brien and upper management constantly changing their minds, the goals, and the concept. When you start to realize this, you realize that HoT is a hot mess. The new map is just a complete mishmash of ideas completely unplaytested… Like turtlebanner, seriously? It’s not out there much yet because Grind Halls, but it’s coming and it’s absurdly OP. Or how bout that Air keep boss with the air jets and the red donut and and and… So many gimmicks, so little focus on actual gameplay… Honestly, there is no need to wait for the “Major WvW overhaul” just look at EtoM and how closely it resembles the new BL in terms of schlock and gimmickry, then look at the mess that is the HoT PvE content, Grinding, time gates, missing critical items or broken maps (ie Tedious Depths), even their precious Esports… This game has completely lost any focus it once had.

I would say no. WvW is in a very poor state right now. It was pretty bad even before HoT and clearly what Anet thinks is fun in WvW as represented in the new map, is not very fun. Even the “Major WvW Overhaul” is very likely to be more of the same, Anet’s “vision for WvW” which it turns out, is lame.

I don’t get it.. What is the point of alliance chat if only guild leaders and officers can chat? What if those players are not online? How would you ask for more help?
