You should be able to put 4 accessories or weapons or armor and get one random item with assignable stats. A 4 for 1 trade in to get something you might actually want would be totally reasonable, and couldn’t possibly be that difficult to code….

currently the collection spoons sell for almost twice what ascended stuff at a vendor, what a joke… not being able to do anything with all the crappy ascended items that RNG has “gifted” me with is, in my opinion, the ultimate middle finger from you know who… you can’t even put them in the mystic toilet…

If everyone claims it is a problem, why are there only a small handful of posters here complaining, in repeat post. If other people have an issue, how about we let them post for themselves, instead of trying to add artificial weight to your personal perspective by disingenuously claiming you speak for other people.

I was relaying actual conversations about this tactic, not sure what makes that disingenous. The vast majority of people posting in this thread agree that spammed immobs are a problem. There are roughly only a couple of posters in this thread that support your position, are you not artificially inflating your position by posting so much?

That statement is an abstraction, it is a theoretical discussion outside of an actual event. Most forum discussions are in the abstract by nature. You like to use abstract arguments to validate your viewpoints, which is perfectly fine, but it’s the same thing as saying, “if one is on fire, one just throws water on the flames to put them out” which is absolutely true, but useless in the case where you fall over into a campfire, spilling your glass of water which makes the advice good in the abstract, but useless in the actual situation….

And let us not forget, neither your preferences nor my preferences are inherently better, or represent better game balance. You are welcome to assume what my motivations are, but that doesn’t make you correct.

Yeah, that’s how it has to work. It is a fight. The goal is for one side to defeat the other. Both sides have fire and water. My argument is no more or less theoretical then yours. I am simply describing what counters very factually work in action for me now. There are other offensive and defensive skills in action.

If you want to think of it as a fight be my guest. The issue here is spammed immobs, trapping players and insta-killing them. Everyone I have talked to about it, considers it to be cheap tactic and exploiting a weakness in how venom sharing works. If you like that kind of gameplay, then fight for it…. I guess.

Why do you need to spec for it? General group comps now, handle it just fine.

The counter argument would simply be, why do they need to nerf skills because you refuse to use comps that counter them? That’s just as bad as players posting their builds, showing no condition cleanses, then demanding nerfs to conditions.

Why is it okay with you to try to dictate what skills need or do not need to be nerfes, based on the build you want to play?

Are you suggesting you do not attempt to compose your groups based on optimal value when it is possible?

You do not understand how I defend it? That is strange. I do not understand how you condemn it.

Arguing in the abstract and theory crafting are great, but it really doesn’t counter what is happening in the game. Real in game skill balancing is an on going continuous process. Revising the way that the immob works with venom share in WvW is exactly what that process should be addressing… pin sniping should be on that list as well imo.

People who think venomshare in wvw is fine as it is clearly just have not played any competent groups. And yes it’s the immobilize venom that’s the problem, but it doesn’t have to be tied with just wells. The thief will share it with 5 others, and that’s 25 attacks that will cause immobilize, you clear one and it’s another immediately reapplied, you’re going to get caught, there’s no way to possibly out cleanse it. It can be a boring pirate fight and will never evolve to a fun strategic fight because the guild getting immob spammed will never push. It’s just suicide.

So no, it needs fixed. Unless people think 20-40 pulsing immobilizes is fine. I’ve literally seen a guild group run 3 venomshare thieves before, who thinks that’s fun to play or fight? There’s a reason GvG is dying, and it’s a lot more of the player’s fault than ANET’s.

25 on 1 person, I believe resistance should help with that if used properly. I know there are bugs around immobilize but fun/boring are opinions, you never know what you will fight there are no rules.

To be fair it’s not 25, only thieves get the 5 stacks I believe and the rest get 2 judging from the video. You’d need 2 thieves to get that realistically. It’s still beyond broken though via it stacking or pulsing. Resistance indeed would help, but it’s just annoying WvW will never get the balance it deserves and that players will exploit whatever to win.

I do not feel multiple professions coordinating skills for this result, that can be negated partially or fully, by coordinated play by different professions, is even remotely “broken”(love the generic buzzword usages here like “broken” and “cancer” when folks try to add artificial weight to their opinion).

There are pulsing cleanses, skills or traits that specifically negate immobilize, team cleansing, and other AoE cleansing. Not to mention leap skills the break immobilize that also get you out of the area.

So now we have to spec our builds to avoid one lame tactic? This necro-venom share thing is just cheap. Should I now set up my party to make sure I have classes to counter this specific trap? I honestly don’t understand why you defend it, there is nothing good about it’s use in WvW or GvG. It does however, fit nicely into the Anet “insta-kill” dungeon/fractal design… is that supposed to be fun?

Well I believe it was posted or announce by someone at Anet that they would be spending a week per specialization with Q and A and other stuff on the site and in the forums so…. that’s minimum 2 months, earliest possible start with that in mind would be July, but that doesnt’ seem even remotely possible… Fall to end of 2015 if we are lucky.

Did Chris Whitesides “leave” before or after the start of the specialists program. He seemed to be the one dev most interested in getting information from the forums. With HoT maybe Anet decided to go even more in the direction of telling us what works and what doesn’t and that only comes after it is released in a patch or update.

At this point, asking about Marmatt is beating a dead horse… given a lot of feedback even in this short thread about how much “discussion” happened about seriously broken WvW stuff that needed immediate attention, why would anyone think that a “specialist” was even needed or desired here, by the devs.
Of course, since the esports division got 2 specialists, it would have caused even more of a ruckus if we didn’t get at least one, even if it’s one that never really existed… or did he?

Db had a guild of 300 members leave and yet DB is still full. there is no way strengthen NA or for other guilds to transfer over. total imbalance, no solution.

While the players do the stacking – its Anet that sets the rules and has ultimate control over the server balancing. Since the player base as a whole can’t/won’t do anything about it. Its up to the owners of the environment to develop and implement something to mitigate these huge wvw player base disparities.

Why? Why do they need to do anything? Do you think if players were artificially forced out of populated servers onto lesser populated ones, that many would quite wen they are ripped out of there established community? As I see it, there is reason to believe artificially forcing players into servers they didn’t chose, will cause the over all population to decline greatly.

Coglin, you are still missing the point. If enough other guilds leave your server, your WvW experience is going to be radically changed even though you didn’t do anything. If WvW is a big part, or perhaps the only part of your GW2 experience, if your server dies, through no fault of your own, then you either have to transfer, or be stuck with a game that is no longer fun. Anet shouldn’t be making a profit from this situation… they control transfer costs, and the overall structure of WvW. Sure we can also simply quit, and many have, and I just might. That will ultimately affect your WvW experience…

They could be setting servers to full in order to force the new accounts into the lower tiered servers and bring up their population.

I don’t think you quite get it. The need to transfer to other servers is almost a requirement in order to enjoy WvW at the moment.

That makes absolutely no sense. You appear to be confusing subjective opinion with objective fact. I doubt the vast majority of players have transferred servers since it changes to require gems to transfer, and I would bet they are having fun.

You simply need to make friends with and join a guild with folks who have fun together and do not depend on bandwagoning.

People jump because there’s nothing to do on their current server. In the lower tiers wvw is mostly dead. All of this is a result of wvw population decline which is a direct result of how Anet has handled wvw. From unbalanced match ups to bugs to cheats to no new content to whatever else you can think of. If the wvw population was still healthy across the tiers it wouldn’t matter what server you were on because there would always be something to do.

No, people jumped because they wanted to bandwagon to already winning servers. That is evident from when they made transfers free before a tournament and everyone tried to stack on T1 or winning T2 servers.

I mean, you can blame Anet if you like, but it won’t make it make sense. They didn’t make players bandwagon servers. Players made that choice. The free transfers were offered because of massive population demand. players demanded transfers for free. Anet granted the request. player bandwagon stacked. Now players cry because there is not population balance. I prefer to blame those who moved directly.

By the way, if Anets so bad, why are you still here? The hipster movement of bashing a developer while consistently being a patron of their games is baffling. If they do such a bad job, why don’t you play a different game?

not only is changing servers not required, it’s a bad idea and every time you do it, YOU are responsible for making WvW conditions worse for everyone else.

you do realize that what you are saying is irrelevant because mass transfers have been, and are happening. So regardless of any individuals move, their WvW environment is being changed because of it. More power to anyone who doesn’t have issues in WvW, lucky to be you. Unfortunately, I am not, nor are my guildies, in your position. Please respect the fact that your’s is only one experience which may or may not be shared by the majority…. (as is mine)

Stopping playing is only going to punish yourself and possibly your server. It will have zero effect on Arena Net. The wvw population has been diminishing at an alarming rate for a while now and they’ve done nothing about it. If it was suddenly to disappear I don’t know that it wouldn’t be a relief. They could just mothball the wvw servers and concentrate 110% of their efforts on pve and pvp.

Yeah, but it just peevs me to no end, if would be one thing if transfers were free at this point, it wouldn’t fix anything, but at least Anet wouldn’t be making huge profits from the mess they created….

For those of us who primarily play WvW the game mode is severely broken by continuous server stacking and server exodus. My understanding is that GW2 is not a monthly subscription game. It supposed to be FREE. However, having a consistent enjoyable playable WvW experience without server ques requires a constant jumping from one server to the next and generates, I would assume, a very large income stream for Anet. Paying for one transfer a year might be reasonable, but now there are guilds who move servers 3-4 times a year which means many people who want a resonably stable WvW experience are probably paying more than the HoT expansion will cost in the real money equivalent of gems. How long are we going to support a company that ignores WvW and is making us pay extra for the privilege. This may not be a problem for everyone, but my guess is that at least half the WvW players have transfered servers in the last year and EVERYONE has been impacted by guilds breaking up over transferring. Neglect is destroying the WvW community, yet the process is lining Anet’s pockets nicely.

My guess is that there is something in the works, but it isn’t ready or is still basically a rough idea. Given how there is absolutely zero back and forth communication these days and the last serious dev presence here was back in November, I fear that their “fix” will be a solution to a problem they don’t fully understand, yet again… Anet’s willingness to simply let the WvW community flail about and self-destruct is really disheartening, regardless of how great or not so great some new map might be, given we won’t likely see it before August…. that’s a lot time to let things fester.

It’s not slander and your statement here is not current. There have been no significant developer interactions in the WvW forums since late November. We are no talking about Anet employees we are talking about actual WvW developers. You can have that clue no charge.

This has been going on since release and no easy fix to many of these problems as “Play your way” Stopping spying? good luck with that.

Siege trolls report them as bots so a GM can come and look at the situation.

simply requiring a 30 refresh on claiming would solve 90% of the issues… can’t be that difficult to code in, and it is a lot worse now since $10 accounts…

Upscaling is a great feature that has been ruined by the rally system. Because of this, it’s generally considered bad manners to follow “hardcore” zergs or guild groups around as an uplevel. You’re more of a detriment to them than an asset. If they ask you to leave, you should just do so. There are a lot of other players and guilds that play WvW casually and will run with you no matter the level, seek them out.

Also, the NPE made uplevels even more useless because they don’t unlock grandmaster traits until level 80. You used to unlock these at level 60, but I guess it was too confusing. An extra 300 range on my grenades? I think I need another 20 levels before I am ready for that…

I love WvW and think you will too – you should stay. Don’t let the downers chase you away. There are some great suggestions above on how commanders should be using up-levels.

As for the reporting bit you’re doing nothing wrong by playing WvW. In fact, mass reporting for a false offense is an offense itself.

You are one of the only Anet official to give us WvWers any love and I for one salute and appreciate you and everything you are doing. However, the flipside of your argument is that uplevels need to understand where they shouldn’t be trying to contribute and where they should. This is a very complicated subject, but at the end of the day, uplevels are focused by other server zergs and they do serve as rally bots changing the outcome of fights. I don’t discourage uplevels in WvW but they need to take some responsibility when playing in that environment. Or you guys could consider making some changes to the rally mechanic that would make uplevels less of an issue…..

I know this has be posted about before, but with the advent of $10 accounts there are now a lot of cross server trolls and spys who will claim keeps without any buffs running and never let them go, or players that order upgrades that burn supply. Simply allowing keeps to automatically revert to unclaimed after 15-30 minutes, just like siege despawns if not refreshed. Yes, trolling could still occur but this would allow for some control over things. I would be really nice if there was a note of who ordered upgrades as well, just like siege as well, so we could at least track down trolls and spys, and in the case of people who simply don’t understand why buffs are important if you are claiming a keep or tower, we could try to help them understand. As it is, there is no way to know who is doing this stuff….

I am on JQ and none of the players at my house have lag. As well, the last 3 evenings, I have asked about it repeatedly in TS and no one suggest they are having a problem. Personally, I feel if it were as kittenome are mentioning here, we would have 10 pages of complaints a day, yet this thread is still on the first page.

For those who do have issues, why would you assume it has to do with stability over that of a coding bug caused by the update. Which is much more likely.

I do not believe you nor I have any idea as to the cause of the current big zerg lag that makes WvW fights unplayable. Since we have gotten lots of updates to the game with no lag problems, it does happen, but not so often, it does seem to follow logic that a major game engine change would be a very likely culprit. Ahh logic, our friend helps us time and time again!

It isn’t queues that are causing the lag. ANET broke something last release. I’m wondering if it is the stability change or if something else caused the issue.

Some people are speculating that the change to stability is requiring more game engine calculations and so when big zergs fight the servers get bogged down. Sounds about right to me…

Don’t post about skill lag, even though it’s really really bad right now, making the game unplayable. Why should you not post about a serious issue with the game? I can’t say. But I can say, that which shall not be mentioned, is a big problem in WvW right now and it’s definitely server side, not client side.

Seriously, the entire representative program is kind of a waste of time for WvW. There are sooooooo many game breaking problems with WvW that are not even remotely being addressed that there isn’t any need to outline other new issues. Also, if Anet was serious about the program for WvW they would have at minimum added a second one in light of Marmatt’s absence. PvP gets attention because Anet is very actively promoting it and supporting it’s development. Esports is “value added” on top of the entire game. WvW is just another mode along side of PvE and PvP. If it isn’t HoT or esports related I highly doubt any real attention will be given by the devs, and once HoT and the new map drops, they are going to have their hands full fixing bugs in the main game. So, Marmatt will get back when he gets back. He seems to do a pretty good job when he is active.

Is the first post going to be updated as the discussion goes on, or how will the ‘report’ be amended in light of people’s comments? How will people’s opinions be taken into account if nothing is posted in over a week? just asking…

It will be ‘amended’ by updating features that the general populous have been asking for. Along with new quotes, thread links, and more accurate statistics. At the moment im waiting for Anet to give me a more “structured” form of how they want the reports to look. I have my notes ready to be inputted for the next report.
