The chapters were automatically added to your account if you logged in during the weeks they were released.

The veteran character slot was only for people who prepurchased HoT.
The character slot from the deluxe/ultimate HoT edition should appear after adding the code to your account.

Normally that means that you have those chapters already unlocked.

If it is on the list of official retailers it’s ok.
Otherwise you buy it on your own risk.

Not a bug.

Just as a heads up, the Mastery Points for Personal Story are awarded on a per-chapter basis. So once you complete Chapter 1 and earn the Achievement for it, you’ve earned the Mastery Point for Chapter 1. This includes each different starting storyline: I believe the right names are: Graduation Day, For The Legion!, Crime and Punishment, Rising to the Challenge, and Waking from the Nightmare. Similarly, whichever Order you join, there’s just one Mastery Point there.
Hopefully this helps clarify the total number of Mastery Points you should be expecting from your previous accomplishments in Tyria.

How exactly did you made a transaction using this website?
The api is read only as far as I know. It is not possible to make any transactions outside of the game.
All this website seems to allow you to do is create a log of things you want to buy.
You will still need to do the transactions in game.

Smothering Shadows will spawn after each quarter of the ring is lit – each time you light a quarter, it will spawn a single Smothering Shadow.
You can kill Smothering Shadows by being lit by divine fire and attacking them – killing them, however, will remove the buff forcing you to get it again before you can light the next portion of the ring.
The best way to counter that is to remain standing in the ring Rox creates and range the Smothering Shadows down as you will be immediately re-buffed.
