I originally spoke in general terms… I’m kinda over negotiation. I’m not going over discuss this topic needlessly.
I wouldn’t either if I was clearly wrong.
There you go taking posts out of context. You obviously do not understand what I’m talking about. Reread and try to be more civil with responses.
I made statements in my op using “in general terms”.
I also showed what HP are like on my elementalist.
Discuss this in a civil way and put things into better context.
I understand perfectly. I’m being as civil as you.
Then don’t go quoting things and interjecting if you are not willing to have a civil discussion. That’s your fault, no one else’s.
Hi pot, this is kettle.
I agree that some crit/burst numbers need to be looked at, but c’mon peeps… put on some gear that has vitality in it…
There is the staple pvt gear for reasons, because it’s those numbers that matter most in zerg/mass settings…
Some of you are jumping into mass combat with the lowest possible health and complaining…
Get some pvt gear and get precision food/utility buffs and put all precision/fury/crit stuff inside your gears…
Come again?
This IS an elementalist in pvt armor.
If you know nothing about a class please keep your mouth shut.
Standing in wvw with ALL ascended celestial armor/trinkets/weapon, without food buffs, I have 19,315 HP
Standing in wvw with a ascended celestial weapon and full set of ascended celestial armor WITHOUT backpiece or rings or accessories or amulet and in staring at 16,018 HP. No food buffs either.
… Yeah…
Get better gear and build for mass combat…
And for the record, I have one of each profession now, minus engineer. Thanks.
The fact that you are blind to the problem is almost comical. I run with ~24K health (might actually be 22 in my current build). If there are >1 Rev I am dead without even being able to react.
At least in the past if I got jumped by a gank group I could have a chance at counter play. Not anymore.
I’ll log on soon to confirm my ele vitality… Chat with you soon
Please do, and also comment on the same thing happening to my Engi in full Dire gear.
P/S Perplexity IMO is still the strongest WvW roaming/1v1 build.
Edit: I still run with the Scrapper trait line.
Edit to the Edit: The reason shield works better than hammer is the interrupts to proc confusion are much easier to time than hammer 5. There are also 2 interrupts on shield as opposed to 1 on hammer. Pretty easy to stack 20+ confusion with tool kit and the runes.

I’d noticed this as well, usually switching legends and switching back will make it go away, but it’s a pain if you’re in combat when it happens.
People may have left to try out other games, but they always came back to GW2.
Not really, people may try other games and not like them, but from what I’ve seen, most do not come back to GW2/WvW, they simply go play a different genre of game until Camelot Unchained, Crowfall, etc are released.
Since I’ve played gw2 I’ve bought gtav, mgsv, witcher 3 + the dlc for it, d3 + expansion. I’ve tried wildstar when it went free and countless free steam games..
You know how many hours I play on any of those games now? ZERO
I keep coming back for wvw and wvw only.
I’m still playing Guild Wars 2. Until the other 2 games I’m backing are ready. Once the main one goes to Beta, I doubt I’ll ever log in to GW2 again except to give out the beta codes I’ve promised to other players.
Just do the daily’s.
Slowly moving away from WvW now. Been playing other games more and more. Planetside 2, EQ2…even, ugh…ESO. So have something to keep me busy until another wvw type game launches.
Have played the new maps a bit. But they are all but deserted except in NA Prime. Even then its usually just one zerg k-training on a given BL. EB is usually queued 20+ deep by the time I get home during the week.
Yup, this is now just a time filler while CamelotUnchained is in Alpha. Once it hits Beta in 2-3 months, bye bye GW2.
The 2 second cooldown needs to be increased, but the bigger problem is that it hits through walls and gates.
I noticed the same thing in the keep fights last night. No idea if it’s related, but I crashed twice during the major keep and 3 way fights. Frustrating enough that after the second one I threw my mouse and said “screw it”.
Ogrewatch Cut is always contested due to guards fight bats (I think it’s bats).
Perplexity on an Engi is already very powerful.
Outside of the sneak gyro, I’ve not found a way to incorporate the other gyros. The toolbelts are decent, but the AI on the gyro’s just aren’t good with pathing and speed.
I’m hoping that with the points required being knocked back to 250, they’ll just bring back liquid WXP.
I’m loving the stealth gyro. It still has a major issue keeping up with me, but more importantly groups.
I’m fine with the new map.
A lot of people talk bad about Sneak Gyro. I suspect they did not play it.
You still have mad stealth while a player attacks your sneak gyro, it isn’t dead, and you thunderclap him from stealth. All while he tries to attack the gyro because he had no other option until you become revealed.
It is a very strong close range juke. It is also insta cast so it can deny stomps and CC bursts. Not to mention its game changing tool belt.
You are right about pretty much everything. Personally though, I REALLY dislike the toolbelt.
Engies are already a natural counter to thieves. I would have preferred something I’d get a bit more use out of.
Mesmers
A much better reason to take it, but still not good enough. If you know the Mesmer is near, you have plenty of other, more versatile tools to deal with the burst. If you do NOT know, then the skill really does not make a difference.
As an Engineer, I am MUCH more concerned about Necromancers or getting burned to death.
And In general, I prefer soft, multipurpose counters.
Isn’t Mr. Sneaks Kind of a Soft Counter to Mesmers? They can not shatter on you if they don’t see you. They can’t stealth Shatter you for example. If they want to kill you, they have to destroy the Gyro first.
It is a soft counter to a lot of things. Part of why I love it so much.
Wished the toolbelt was as elegant.
I was referring to revealing them. I don’t have any issue with the burst. My issues are the constant stealth and re-target. A revealed Mes is a dead Mes.

Only other thing I can suggest is swap Gadgeteer for Kinetic Battery, then at least you can double pop your heal.
As to the original title of the post though: Yes condi engi is viable, I run it full time with zero issues.
I’ll add my voice to the “Why are you changing reset night?” crowd.
My first suggestion, swap Over Shield for AMR.
My second suggestion is Swap slick shoes for Rocket Boots.
Last is a rework of your traits. Swap Tools for Alchemy. This of course means dropping FT for an Elixir (I use Elixir S, and if I know I’m fighting a heavy condi fight maybe swap in C). Trade out Med Kit for Elixir H. This gives you a bunch of extra condi clear.
The build you have should work fine though, so I don’t know what your issues are (aside from med kit, that build should be using turret). Just remember if you are running perplexity, interrupts are your bread and butter. If you aren’t stacking confusion and are wasting interrupt abilities, pick a different rune set.
yes i think i messed up my build…it was suppose to have alc in there lol
here:)

I did notice one thing With the inventions..that mecha legs gives very little speed:(
As a full time WvW Engi, a couple of suggestions. I would swap Chemical Rounds for Heavy Armor Exploit. While I understand why people use the turret, I still use Elixir H for the extra condi clears and might.
I would swap Elixir B for Toolkit. For my play style anyway, the Magnet/Prybar combo, the Box of Nails, and the Block are must haves. I also run Elixir X as my elite (situationaly swapping in Mortar). The Moa is really handy for popping enemies out of transforms, and Rampage is really nice as well.
Gear is preferential. I use Dire armor and mix my accessories up.
Lastly, I run P/S, but I’m a perplexity build so the 3 extra interrupts are essential. I’ve played P/P for extended periods and it’s fun, but I like to be a bit more bunker.

Very nice video.
One question? Why rifle turret instead of Rocket Boots? It seemed like you were using Rifle 5 as a gap closer a lot even knowing it wouldn’t land. Wouldn’t Rocket Boots be a better choice there? I would also think the toolbelt would be better as opposed to surprise shot.
surprise shot is like a must for sd, because lowest cd with biggest dmg and instant cast!!!
awesome video, beast combos!
Makes sense. Thanks

Hey Wand you’re famous, let the tears flow!!!!!
You are delusional if you think this is hitting live servers
It is. Much of the reason he is so survivable is simply the Glint Heal. I had this same issue when fighting Revenants until I figured out what to look for. If you bother to learn the mechanics of the class, you’ll learn to counter them (seriously, go read the post you lifted the video from). He mentions that the heal skill needs a more visible identifier, and I agree. Stop attacking when that heal is on, and much of the survivability is lost. The beauty of this game is that 75% of the player base just mashes buttons, and performs rotations without thinking or paying attention.
I’m still on the fence, but I’m thinking about this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlQQNAS5unvN2gS6JvQRVlbosryPUYW5IKYs8ElFUlhNpmiKNgCWw+81nH-TVyCAB1pDAgjAgLaGO+BAo8+Deq+TiKBzS5HFXEgAAIA7cnBAH9oH9oH9olCYshRA-w
I pretty much only WvW. I think it’s got enough damage and sustainability, and I plan to use the hell out of phase traversal.
I’m also really unsure about whether Corruption or Devestation is the better choice, I can see benefits to both.
(edited by Tyaen.5148)
I’ve pretty much never run anything but Dire/Condi/Perplexity Engi. I pretty much only run WvW.
This will change once HoT is released though. I’ll be switching to Power hammer.
Scrapper trait line => Stabilization Core …doesnt work ive tried many times to get stability while using the gyros but nothing.
Only works for the function gyro.
Leave it alone.
The Hammer is amazing. As everyone else has requested, please give us our legendary effects when in a kit.
The gryros are really wonky. Especially if there is a zerg around. They have a really hard time following properly. Several times the stealth gyro effect took 2 or 3 seconds to apply , or didn’t follow me properly and revealed me.
I’ll probably find a use for the blast gyro, it seemed to be the only one that didn’t have issues, and I like the knockback/interupt.
As great as 4 and 5 on the hammer are, 3 is also wonky. Many time it would do the second leap away from my target causing finishers to miss. The leap also didn’t seem to proc every time in a static field. Leaps 1 and 3 would proc, but leap 2 failed to proc a lot.
Hammer will definitely be my main weapon in HoT (the 4 skill is just amazing).
It works for me on players in WvW but not on NPC’s (like Supervisors)
Do I have to unmap F as my interact key?
This may be a dumb question but I don’t see it in the keybind option. How do I deploy the Function gyro?
I want to test the new stuff, so I’ll be running this in BWE
I’ll also be playing with some roaming specs involving kits. Probably One gyro and tool kit and flamethrower with the might stacking traits.
These should be changed to include Pets when you say Allies .
I’m pretty sure “allies” include your pet (and yourself) as well just like all other professions on gw2.
If it does, my mistake, when it says a allies one assumes other players .
Allies include everyone on your side, even yourself. It always has meant that in this game. Yes, your pet gets benefit from that too.
Why Fumigate don’t cleanse condis on my Engie then?
Because you can’t stand in the field being sprayed. If you could it would affect you.
And what is the playstyle? I have watched vids and it kind of reminds me of a heavy meleed ninja depending on what weapons your using, I love how they are being original I do not think I ever seen a class like this but this is a strange concept to me. As far as the magic does it seemed very subtle, but the melee looks really good.
Revenants aren’t anything new to RPGs… think of them as a mystical class of warriors. Look a what they can do. They:
-Commune with the died
-Channel energy
-Rift Magic
-Spiritual Attunement
-Mystical CleansingThey fit in roles that range from Dreadnaught to Crusader to Mystic to Monk. Lore wise, they seem in incorporate all the GW1 expansion roles (Paragon, Dervish, Assassin, and Ritualist), with a heavier emphasis on Ritualist and Dervish.
Magus
Maybe it’s finally an expansion of our base weapon choice.
Watched it. Love the possibilities. Can’t wait.
I’m fond of the simplicity of the Black Fleet Bludgeon.
one thing im curios about… wtf is going on with that red fella?
Frag? Caltrops? Blueberries?
Of course if they lifted this silly “you must use new specialization to use the new weapon”
Huh?
He’s talking about how you have to take the Scrapper spec tree in order to equip the Hammer.
But some of those traits are specifically related to the hammer, so what’s the problem?
Of course if they lifted this silly “you must use new specialization to use the new weapon”
Huh?
For the love of…
A’ight, full disclosure here: my Engineer is a Flamethrower build, Firearms/Inventions/Alchemy. I use Sinister armor and Iron-Blooded. I’m not one of the rampant Zerk-or-go-home jackwads who believes that any trait with doesn’t read “+10% damage while [X]” is useless and any skill which is not a fire field, a blast finisher, or an AoE stealth is also useless.
I’m not talking Dungeon speed clears or lvl9000 Fractals. Those guys are never going to be happy with anything ArenaNet does anyways. What I’m talking is PvE, i.e. “any space in which one’s objective is not to defeat other human players.” Open world, Living Story, dungeons/fractals, raids, whatever. That segment of the game – the one in which the vast majority of the players in this game operate, if not the majority of forum guys – is getting a half-functional elite specialization at best.
Let’s flip this around – if ArenaNet had released the Scrapper, and its Function Gyro was strictly a PvE utility thingus – auto-gathering, distance interact prompts, whatever – and had no ability to res or stomp at all, would that have been kosher with you PvP guys? If the ability had stated “This ability cannot be used in PvP”, would that not have caused a gigantic forum explosion akin to the Dragonhunter name fracas or the mere existence of the Tempest?
Why is it okay for the same thing to be done to the majority of the playerbase on the PvE side, instead?
Because they already did that. It’s called the Engineer.
They are really turning us into somewhat of an anti-stealth specialist.
First, yes I’m fine with the state of Engineer in PvE. When Anet forces me into that game mode, which is too often, I’ve never felt the class was lacking.
Second, I’m not an sPvP player, I primarily WvW. They are completely separate game modes (that is not an opinion, but a statement of fact). If you believe differently don’t reply. This Elite adds something that this class has lacked in WvW and sorely needs. Pending actually seeing it in action, iI am very excited.
Didn’t ask if you were fine with the state of Engineer in PvE. I asked if you were okay with PvE Engineer players not getting an elite spec. Because right now we’re not getting one. Or at least we’re not getting a complete spec; only PvP players, either structured or Wuv – and no, the two game modes are not as different from each other as they communally are from PvE – are getting a complete spec.
I’m not asking for them to rebuild the Scrapper completely. Even if they had time to do it, I wouldn’t want them to. The base, fundamental concept of the function gyro is awesome. It’s like a universal remote; it’s incredibly Engineer-y and flavorful and I think it’s exactly the sort of thing that could set the Scrapper apart. Right now, though? its functionality is intensely limited and essentially nonexistent in PvE; for something specifically named “the Function Gyro”, it does not have much function.
Let it take the place of the Scrapper’s normal interact. Gather at range, or leave the Function Gyro to do world prompts while the Scrapper itself smashes faces with a hammer. Disable the Scrapper’s own interacts while the Gyro is doing its thing – no double-button-pushing or such, but if the Scrapper’s new mechanic is a universal remote, make it universal. That would be awesome, and it wouldn’t impact the PvP types whatsoever. You could still remote-stomp. It’s simply that the rest of us would also be able to enjoy having a cool new elite spec to play around with.
Then the answer to that is also yes. You are getting an Elite. You may choose to ignore it (like I have to ignore many class functions in WvW) but nothing says you can’t use the new features in PvE.
as someone who doesn’t PvP or WvW, I’m underwhelmed as hell.
the big profession mechanic is utterly useless in PvE unless there is someone dying nearby, and the elite is purely a PvP ability considering how insanely situational stealth is in PvE for non-thieves.
consider that for the elite mechanic revenants get a new legend, necros get a new death shroud, mesmers get to save-scum, the ability to rez/finish someone at range is so situational outside of PvP that unless HoT adds a LOT of finishable enemies like the toxic alliance, it may as well not exist.
We have no idea on the hammer cd’s & power-scaling so you may want to wait before calling it useless.
Also, do you remember the toxic alliance? I wouldn’t be surprised if you meet a lot of mordrem in the future that need to be stompedThey’re talking about the stealth elite and the function gyro being near useless, not the entire spec. I’m not sure about the elite, but the gyro is certainly near pointless in PvE from what we understand of it. It makes almost zero difference in open world.
Not to mention that they MENTIONED Toxic Alliance in their post. Assuming there’ll be a bunch of mobs to finish off is wishful thinking at best considering they seem to have ran away from that mechanic in PvE. Was there even any in the beta yet? Maybe that mounted boss from the story…? I don’t recall running into a single one.
It’s a heavily PvP skewed mechanic change, moreso than any other class’ and that’s extremely disappointing.
Opinions.
I for example find it extremely satisfying. No, not opinions. In half of the game it’s use is minimal.
1/3.
And frankly, PvE needed the least help.
HoT is more difficult than most content, and raids are coming as well.
And Fractals were more difficult than what came before. They didn’t invalidate PvE builds.
I wasn’t arguing that, lol, what I’m saying is really most of the classes need help with pve in most cases. Sure, there are exceptions, but generally pve is the least challenging of the modes.
But HoT and raids will be much more challenging, so saying it needed it the least… well, maybe. maybe not.
That’s an interesting point. Since in WvW and sPvP you aren’t fighting AI it makes build choice and diversity even more important. I would argue that if you can find counterplay in WvW and sPvP you will be able to apply that to PvE as well.
All I’m trying to say is this new elite offers a massive alternative play style to WvW that was really lacking. I’ve found imperfect ways to try and replicate it, but there is always something missing. If what’s been revealed so far actually plays the way it seems it should this is really exciting to me.
We could all play it BWE3 and be completely disappointed, but for now I’m interested.
