Basically every build requires 30 in alchemy and nothing else matters.

You can succeed in WvW still, but you have to redefine success as “not getting badges or many kills.”

Disagree with both of these statements. I respecced out of the tanky build type after the patch. I’m still really survivable but now running P/S, Flamethower, Toolkit. I run bloodlust sigil on my rifle to 25 stacks, then switch to P/S with sigil of fire, and lifesteal. Traited for Juggernaut and Power Wrench. The flamethower wrecks people, prybar when not on cooldown, number 2 on flamethower when you learn how to use it is amazing in groups. 5 on Shield, 4 on toolkit, magnet, elixer B. I get way more badges post patch than I did running full tank. I’m just having to adjust my play style to be a bit less aggressively risky than I used to be.

The beauty of the engineer is there is a lot of room to play with the build, and I’ve found at least 3 builds I really enjoy.

p.s. Biggest problem is I have to keep mobile and often miss the loot bags from my own kills.

I have found this to be an issue. Last night I was constantly having to back track to pick up a trail of bags.

Congrats to SoS for holding off SBI and JQ, its not an easy thing to do. SBI is known to come back during the weekdays though.. in one night SBI came back from a 20k point lead when Blackgate was #1. I look forward to fighting SoS when Blackgate makes it to tier 1 again.

I believe it was 2 weeks ago (might have been 3) when SoS did that exact thing to SoR. We had a ~20K lead going into Thursday and lost the match.

It was the Oct 20th matchup in T3

IoJ is really starting to disappoint me. If I could cross server group for fractals with my pve’ing guild mates, I’d consider moving at this point. It’s like we peaked at Tier1 decided we’d done all we could in WvW, then ran off to PvE events starting with Halloween and never looked back.

Personally, I’m out there every day I’m on. First thing I do after checking auctions is click WvW and head out to the first BL that’s open…. where I’m running around solo in a sea of towers sporting other people’s colors, outmanned and trying to avoid zergs. Where is everyone?!

I’ve enjoyed fighting IoJ the last few weeks (as well as SoS and BG).

I’d question not being motivated because the server made it to T1 for a week though. In context that was during the time when Henge, ET and CD were all being dismantled by transfers.

Now that the transfers have settled out, and the matches are more stable, it’s probably a better indicator or who the T1 servers are. Hopefully SoR can sort out our overnights and prove we belong.

The Future of Items Progression

This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content.
As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.
You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power. We also have plans to add more fun ways to acquire Legendary precursor items with a more “scavenger hunt” feel than they are acquired currently.
The new additions in November are just the start of our item progression initiative. We’re going to add tons of new high-level content to Guild Wars 2 in the future. As we introduce the new high-level content, we’ll also roll out complimentary Ascended and Legendary items (to say nothing of the other rewards you can earn by playing the content).

Please keep in mind that we’re releasing this as one portion of a massive November update that introduces and improves many aspects of challenge, progression, and rewards. With this and upcoming updates, we view ourselves as introducing large amounts of content with supporting systems and features, akin to an expansion pack, building on Guild Wars 2 through a series of live releases. So it’s important for us to be able to add an expansion pack’s worth of progression and rewards to support that content.
Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill. Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two. We will slowly add the remaining ascended gear items and legendary items in future updates to allow people time to acquire them as we add exciting new content that deserves exciting rewards. We will not be adding a new tier of gear every 3 months that we expect everyone to chase after and then get the next set and so on.
Ascended and infusion rewards will be available in both PvE and WvW over time, and be made available through all sorts of content around the world including existing content. PvP will remain unaffected to ensure our intended PvP balance going forward. We are also working on other reward and progression systems for the game that tie into current and new content and features. As you know we care very much about your support and opinion and are listening intently to what you say.

I disagree with the title. I ran almost nothing but Tool Kit for the last 4 hours in WvW and it was amazing. The new pull almost makes me feel OP.

play mesmer, theif, gaurdian, etc. everyone has pulls.

As did we, now it just has an extremely useful range.

There are still quite a few bugs that need to be worked out of the class.

I’m seeing some really buggy graphical behavior when coming out of elixer S now.

That said, I’m loving running with Tool Kit and Rifle. I may experiment with P/S and Tool Kit tonight.

I’m pretty much WvW exclusive.

The Engineer has so many ways that a kit of just random tools -could- be awesome that “Yeah, I’m just gonna hit that guy with stuff.” “What kind of stuff?” “Well, I guess I got a wrench and a prybar. Pass me that box of nails, then I’ll have that, too.” is almost embarrassing.

I kind of enjoy the wrench graphic. Smack, whack, thwack cracks me up.

If i use the toolkit i lose 128 Vit 128 Toughness 180 Power 60% bleed on crit ca. 80 defense and 5% crit so i will not use it

Use the utility of whatever kit you like, and simply press C (or whatever you have your switch mapped to).

Ignoring the awesome utility of kits because you don’t want to press a button seems silly.

The best part is that when the “offer” was made we were in 3rd place about -2,500 and had just started our retake. When I logged about an hour ago, we were in second and top tick for quite some time at +310 ppt. We owned every node in IoJ BL. It was a very satisfying day of WvW.

I run full Vigil Armor with full Dolyak Runes and Berzerkers on my accessories.

I run WvW 95% of the time. The survivability is great and I have no problems taking target 1v1.

I used to run full Berzerkers but had to break combat far to often to heal up.

I really mean toughness in general is bad. You shouldn’t run it wvw. spvp is a lot different and I don’t think it a good aspect of the game to base any character off.
The rifle thing is another myth about the warrior.

I find it funny, the “conditions!” people are the ones defending toughness.

toughness is very weak. much like +healing. You need a certain level to stay alive of course. if you trait down a toughness line, do not spend any on gear.
If, wvw, do not invest in any. Spvp. 200 is probably enough.
Survival comes from hard evasion. dodge, stealth, stability, protection, reflect, block, blind, stun, knockback/down. chill. cleansing of CC. All of these things negate taking any damage at all.
Some, when used offensively, allow application of damage without having to worry about getting hit back. when you can someone flatfooted, you need to focus fire and kill them.

Mit wins duels, where there is only 1v1, and sustain counts. in anything larger, focus fire and damage avoidance will win. Reducing our damage by 3% won’t save you. In a teamwork situation offense will win over defense. Again, because there are no stat related damage avoidance. why do I need toughness with supply drop stun, elixir R dodge/stun break. rifle net, rifle kd? This is my wvw, where I don’t run alone, and still. only a burst theif can drop me 1v1, where I dont have enough reliable CC’s for solo. But even in an Spvp situation, why would I be solo? its not a free for all. I might drop B and take net turret for its toolbelt, and turret net, if I were to go pick up spvp.

I think I see the problem here. I think Casia and Mell should post videos of exactly how they play wvw as they obviously don’t spvp. I have the sneaking suspicion that these two spend 100% of their time with the zerg where they are carried by other players.

Lets be honest here. It doesn’t really matter what class or build you zerg with. If you’re in 20-50 man zerg it doesn’t matter what weapon you use, you’ll be fine until you
a) encounter a larger zerg
b) encounter a more organized zerg
c) encounter lots of well placed siege.

This is true. But, even if you are running with 20+ how are you going to survive a portal bomb? You need toughness/vitality to bomb properly and to survive a bomb. Either that or there people are all playing on servers that haven’t developed the same meta as the top WvW servers.

The better the survivablility the more kills, more damage, more defense, more badges.

I speak from experience here. I was full ranged glass cannon grenadier. Even traiting for survivability and defense I would have to pull out of combat too often to heal up. If I was focused I was dead in 2 seconds or less. Now, I’ve equiped for Toughness/Vitality with Vigil Armor and full Dolyak Runes. I almost never have to pull out of combat. I can 1v3 or 1v4 for extended periods to hold points while waiting for backup. Even if focused I’m good for 7+ seconds before I have to pull out.

There is one other important point to make here. If you were tagged by a number of enemy players who then are killed by teammates, and then you yourself go down, you just rallied 4,5, or 6 players who otherwise were taken out of the fight. I can’t tell you the number of times a keep defense would have been successful if the glass canon build hadn’t rallied the enemy over and over and over.

Honestly the best kill you can have is how to dodge not much else. i think all round dps is very important to those who are bad and those who are good. When you kill the mob 3x as fast because of you it helps.

Here is how you play guild wars. Never spec toughness. Even vitality can be a waste of time.
Go max dps and then for your utility skills go for a stability and invulnerability, escapes barriers really anything that can help. Another trick is to even leave combat if you’re being focused and you’re utilities are on cooldown.
A skilled player will know what to do at the right time while outputting the most damage. A bad player needs to keep as far out of combat as possible and use there utilities whenever he is getting attacked and then leave combat.
For me personally i do go more for survival than anything else. The best way to do this is stay ranged and use slows and roots. Which is why eng is so powerful.

My experience couldn’t be more opposite. After changing gear from full exotic berserker to Vigil and dolyak runes my kill rate went up enormously. Why? Survivability. I don’t have to pull out as early when getting focus, I stay up longer, I get more kills. In WvW toughness and vitality are greater than precision and critical damage.

That’s the same time I logged off as well (we were +480 I think). Nice job by the late night SoR crew. Special thanks to Thais and [FATE] for getting that treb at Hills built for me. I’m really impressed with the quality of play. SoS has knocked me out of being complacent in open field. CD you appear to not have the numbers, but I had some fun fights both at Hills and Cragtop last night.

I have recently given up the addictive drug that we all call “Speedy Kits”.

I gave up speedy kits a while ago as well. There are better ways to spend points in traits. You can still gain highly available up time swiftness by using the correct kits if all you want is to move quickly from point to point in open WvW.

I just transferred to TC from JQ. Between all the bandwagon jumpers, queue times, and lack of meaningful competition WvW was losing its appeal. I look forward to running with my new server mates.

So far the only thing I would ask is someone spamming the TS/Vent/Mumble info. I couldn’t seem to get it from anyone in map chat Saturday or Sunday.

I’ve tried going around with full berzerkers before and you can do it, but you may need to swap elixir S into the build and run the protection injection trait from alchemy.

With full berzerkers you would be an easy target for anyone that wants you. In WvW I like Valkyrie gear since it gives me a really nice amount of vitality.

If you play the edges and are careful to avoid attention you should be ok, but if a group decides to focus you, you don’t have many options.

I run with full Berzerkers as well. It was very squishy, so I’ve been experimenting with traits. Last night I ran with Protection Injection, Protective Shield, low health response system, Hidden Flask, and Elixer S up. It definitely increased my survivability.

Stealth is bad due to a lack of counters

This thread is so full of misinformation and hyperbole.

Stealth needs to break on damage? Do you have any idea how profession breaking that is? Stealth lasts 3-4 seconds or 12-16 seconds (if you chain abilities) in pretty much one spot that is indicated via little house. All the while any roots stay on and damage still applies like normal.

If they are “in stealth 95% of the time” they are doing maybe 300dps chaining Cloak and Dagger and that’s if they are hitting the same person over and over. Basically no damage. All they are doing is being annoying and can still be knocked down, rooted, AoE’d or otherwise disabled.

If a Thief actually attacks from stealth they can’t go back in stealth for 3 seconds. Plenty of time to be locked down.

I know all this because I play a Thief. Whenever I fight other thieves I have zero problems with stealth. Why? Because I understand how it works. I know that when they stealth, you can still spam your auto attack key in the direction they were in. If you hit them, you will see a little flash of blood and sometimes condition damage numbers. You can use this and predict where they are going and continue to attack them with normal attacks or AoE.

Every time when they come out, keep attacking and snare/root when available. They can only stealth over and over and over if they hit something so kite them. Keep pets off them. Save a big AoE for the instant they use Shadow Refuge (the house).

I am constantly taking on 3-4 players at once with my condition thief because most WvW players are like you guys in this thread. It’s shocking to me when I run into competent players and I’m locked down and dead in seconds. Use your brains, it will help.

I don’t have a problem with anything you said here. Despite what someone else replied, in WvW it is possible to prevent an objective circle from flipping while stealthed. It may be an exploit, but I and the group I was running with saw it happen 3 times in 2 days. Despite the previous trolls, I am a competent player who understands game mechanics.

Unfortunately WvW has much bigger problems right now.

This has been covered in half a dozen threads I know of, but I’ll restate what IMO is the major problem. In WvW a thief can chain stealth and prevent a point from flipping, with no way for you to break it. Including spamming AOE throughout the entire circle.

Not hard to understand. They can chain stealth and prevent the opposing side from capping the objective.

The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

My belief is that it’s not a consumable. I believe it is a specific thief build spec, chaining stealth, WAI. The problem is no class has stealth breakers that I know of. In WvW this has the potential to be game breaking.

It’s not if they aren’t attacking anything at all…

It is if you can’t flip the point.

You are just exaggerating how short they were out of stealth after attacking.
