Were you the person who basically soloed it then that happened? I saw it in map chat. Bad luck man.
And have any of you tried to go up against 5 mesmers? -.- That was before any league btw…
I had a match where the enemy team was 4 mesmers. Was like playing where’s wally trying target someone. Thankfully they were all terrible FOTM mesmers and didn’t know what to do when we brought cleanses.
Abysmal. It’s awkward to follow for new viewers, the build diversity is non-existent. Population is tiny so nobody watches it.
If ArenaNet want to achieve E-sports acclaim, I would suggest creating a new PvP only game just happens to be set in the guild wars universe. If they don’t want to do that then they need to separate PvP and PvE balancing and much more regular balance passes.
Balance is reasonable. Diversity is garbage. Matchmaking still sucks balls.
“Warriors can beat Mesmers now? Quick, lets nerf Guardian!”. -Anet logic
I literally laughed out loud at this because its feels like its not far from the truth.
I feel I should rename my Guard to Irelia these days.
I actually use a full condition build when doing HoT content. Full Rabid exotics with staff/scepter/shield(or pistol if not chrono) gives me decent condition damage and high toughness. Just kite while using staff auto and let illusions/shatters/condis kill stuff for you.
Since the staff 1 attack bounces and staff 5 is an AOE it also provides decent damage when you get rushed by a few mobs at once. Staff 2 gives you an extra blink so you can teleport out of AOEs.
You also need to learn the HoT mob attacks – mordem snipers hurt and need to die asap, stoneheads have a high damage charged knockdown, frog bladedancers do nasty burst damage with their ranged and melee attacks so don’t engage too many, kill pocket raptors at range if possible or if they get too close a 3 illusion F1 should be enough to kill them before they kill you. You can probably expect to die a few more times just learning the different mob attack patterns.
Now a full zerk ele…first time I went into HoT, wheeeew, not fun.

HAHA, good one guys.
To those disagreeing with the OP, I’ll be honest, when I first realized War was the counter to the condichrono build of S2, I thought condi war wouldn’t be able to do it. Power, yes, but I doubted condi. I’ve since confirmed power war does the job (either forcing decap + disengage of chrono, or killing him outright, and amazing +1), and am comfortable accepting the warrior mains opinions (displayed in the warrior forum) that condi war does just as good of a job. If you’ve played with the condichrono build and you’re familiar with proposed counter setups of warrior (power or condi), you’d be able to easily see why the word “counter” is appropriate.
I understand other classes have a hard time (outside of a good thief, or appropriately set up Mesmer, and maybe others), but the resistance uptime and cleansing capabilities (not to mention recent sustain adjustments) make warrior the superior fighter in this particular matchup.
I don’t fight warriors in 1v1s anymore on my mesmer. It seems to be a poor matchup if they’re power (I explode) or a slow fight of attrition where I likely lose the node (condi).
Better to drop portal, +1 another node and come back 2/3v1 . Chances are the warrior won’t have gotten far away.
This is just my opinion of course.
Mjolnir. I’ve never seen anyone with it, and I want it soooooo bad.
~EW
I see it fairly often, maybe it’s because I’m in EU. Quite a few scrappers and raid guards use it.
One year later and this bug still exists.
I remember soloing this dungeon for the PvP track access and the chains worked in story then. They must’ve broken it in a patch between then(Feb) and now. I can’t remember if the first chain for the first trap set worked though…all the others did I’m certain.
Also people should bind dodge to middle mouse.
Honestly its really painful difficulty wise, at least solo, its like torture.
It’s not that bad. Some parts might take a few tries and some of the challenges are quite difficult but it’s not that bad.
I’ve been trying to work out exactly this – how to survive reliably on your own in HoT maps when out hunting down the mastery points etc!
Assuming you have Tempest, I have found this works well:
Dagger / Warhorn fresh air
Air: Zephyr’s Boon, Aeromancer’s Training, Fresh Air
Earth: Elemental Shielding, Geomancer’s Training, Diamond Skin
Tempest: Unstable Conduit, Invigorating Torrents, Imbued Melodies.Skills are Wash the pain away, Feel the Burn, Aftershock, Flash-freeze, Glyph of elementals.
This is really decent for both DPS and survival. It is all geared towards applying auras. You get auras passively as well as from overloads, and your 3 shouts all apply an aura as well. Each aura grants Protection, Regeneration, Swiftness and Fury – in my case this means in a typical fight I have these up permanently meaning 85% crit chance and 40% damage reduction.
Diamond Skin also passively removes conditions and you’ve got some resistance to crippled etc so you’re less likely to get bogged down. All the boons stack in duration loads, and Imbued Melodies gives you an extra 20% duration.
If you want to use Staff, I’d use exactly the same build, just swap Air for Fire and use Burning Precision, Pyromancer’s Training and Persisting Flames.
Hope that helps!
Any suggestions for someone without Tempest going through HoT? My 13k HP pool just evaporates when any enemy that has a ranged attack sees me
It’s not so much small groups of tough enemies or single champs…but when I get swarmed my ele just gets steamrolled like no other class (except maybe thief).

I’d add:
- Hammer auto chain – 1/2s, 1/2s then 3/4s. Direct damage reduced by 22% to maintain old dps.
- Banish – Cast time reduced to 1/3s
- Mighty Blow – 1s cripple on hit. CD increased to 6s
- Empower – cast time reduced from 2.5 to 2s.
- Honorable Staff – Allies also gain boon duration increase within 400 radius.
- Empowering might – radius increased to 400.
- Whirling Wrath – Projectiles removed. Damage buffed appropriately.
- Signet of Resolve – ICD reduced to 8s
- Receive the Light – AOE heal. Allied heal reduced by 10%
- Sanctuary – Radius increased to 180. CD reduced from 90s to forty-five secs(for some reason if I type this as a number it’kitten by the swear jar). Healing scales with power and healing power.
- Signet of Courage – Passive radius increased to 500m. Pulses resistance(2s) at same interval as heal.
- Cleansing Flame – channel time reduced by 1.5s

A-net can you please return True Shot on Dragon hunter back to its previous damage? – get rid of the 20% nerf, DH was fine where it was before – thanks
Not a valid complaint, they basically put the damage into the bow’s symbol:
True Shot: The damage of this skill has been reduced by 20%.
Symbol of Energy: The damage of this skill has been increased by 25%.
If you manage to actually stand in that for it’s duration then I don’t know what to say.
I would go with the Orr karma temple gear suggestion. Just following the karma train around for a while and doing your PvE dailies should be sufficient to get you enough karma to gear out your guardian in a week or so. Better yet, you aren’t stuck with soldier stats but you can pick which temple to get which piece from.
There’s a small white circle in the center of the screen one you start the Shooting Gallery adventure. Zoom into 1st person and pretend you’re playing an FPS.
Mesmer or Rev.

I feel moderately powerful in terms of plot. Not full on SWTOR Sith Warrior levels of kitten -kicking, lightsaber stabbing and force choking powerful, but pretty kitten nonetheless.
In terms of mechanics, depends on which character/class I play. Open world my DH feels pretty powerful when I teleport in and mangle something with the trap burst combo. In PvP my mesmer feels powerful (and incredibly trolly) kiting people around a point while they die to conditions.
They should just port the character size normalization from SAB to PvP.
Bezerker Dragonhunter(main)
Rabid condichrono (I have a zerker set as well, but I just like condimes for open world)
Guardian is really A or S tier. Rev and Mesmer are like SSSSSS tier.
Now you’re thinking like a minister for education. An A is an A+, a B is an A+, a C is and A, and a D is a B+. Nobody can fail!
I’m simply saying Mesmers have a lot of well thought out GM traits that provide depth and playstyles.
Meanwhile on Guardian…
Guardian is fine. Most HoT specs are just beyond broken and it makes guardian look weak.
In fact, DH is still a little too good and definitely very faceroll. It needs more depth and less faceroll.
It’s only faceroll if the opponent is dumb enough to walk into your traps. Which plays into the whole “more depth” thing.
DH is F-tier against anyone who isn’t stupid enough to die to traps and has a defensive/dodge ready for LB5. Which is pretty much anyone above sapphire.
Therefore, you need to remove solo queue. Players who wish to play PvP have to enter in a team of five as premades. You may keep entering in team of two and three but then the matchmaking needs to be that such teams don’t meet a full premade.
If this happened, RIP PvP population.
Skyhammer is probably the most boring map now.
The hammer barely feels worth fighting over, the lack of jump pads removes a lot of the options for traversing the map (would prefer hot style “Press F” pads) and the removal of the breakable windows makes fights more boring.
The hammer platform change is good, but I’d like the old style hammer back, maybe with 50% damage and much higher cooldown. At any rate, give us a reason to fight over it properly.
Spirit Watch. I like the changes.
My guardian has no issues with full zerker, but if you find you do I would try using valkyrie or soldier.
My mesmer uses a rabid based condi build for open world so I dunno if she would be squishy in zerker, in rabid however she is very tanky.
Exotic gear is really more than adequate for these regions, no need to worry about having to build a whole new ascended set.

It’s on sale pretty much all the time from a verified reseller like Amazon or dlgamer. Just buy it from them and not from Anet directly. It cost me ~£22 and not £50 or whatever the ridiculous msrp is.
It is, if they would stop pressing only 1 on their chars and actually learn how to play their class properly.
What if I play a hammer guardian?
I have been playing a power based warrior intensively for the last couple of days in spvp, and i can honestly say… NO.
We have insane condi removal and surivability right now. I have been completely wrecking stuff left and right without too many issues, including mesmers necros and condi thiefs.
I have no idea what more you people want, warrior is perfectly fine as is. Some build variety to get out of the “def/disc/bers” trinity would be nice, but as is, i see very little reason to complain.
edit: I used almost the exact same build as poster above, with shield master instead of dogged march and eternal champion instead of bloody roar instead.
I went up against my first power war today as a a condimancer. Felt like my conditions just slid off them. Once they finally caught me with a hard CC and blink on CD it was game over for me. I can see wars getting back into the meta as a counter to condi classes.
A daily for tangled depths still isn’t going to make me go there. :P
Power warrior tends to kill my mes pretty easy. Good thieves as well.
I’ve been having a similar issue, every time I hit a loadscreen my FPS goes to 10-15 and I have to alt-tab to get it back to normal.
Div drop + pip/division decay after ruby.
Pointless waste of time for me.
I would buy an Eir Stegalkin/Destiny’s edge figurine. T-shirts…not so much.
The posters and prints currently available are pretty nice as well. More of that kinda thing is good.
Hey, I bought Red Alert when it was new for full price. It’s a free game now. Where’s my compensation?
I used to have this issue, had to learn to do jumps with a short space tap instead of what I did before which was hit space and not release until landing. The distance covered is the same either way.
While we’re at it, any chance of getting the male phalanx skin resized for females…and perhaps vice-versa. The two gender sets look like totally different armor sets.
Leave the female one alone .. its finr how it is.
Just release it as a separate set with the art style on the male/female models swapped.
While we’re at it, any chance of getting the male phalanx skin resized for females…and perhaps vice-versa. The two gender sets look like totally different armor sets.
Stronghold is garbage, I don’t know why anyone would ever play it.
Monday: SAB dailies, PvP dailies in unranked, couple ranked games, then farm some mats until guild mission time.
Tuesday-Thursday: SAB dailies, PvP dailies in unranked, couple ranked games, then farm some mats.
Friday-Sunday: SAB and PvP dailies, nothing else.
I don’t raid (no longer have the time to dedicate to is, though I used to enjoy raids in other MMOs a lot), I don’t do fractals (they’re boring) and I only boss farm if it happens to be a daily in an area I mat farm in anyway.
(edited by Ubik.8315)
dlgamer have it on sale every so often. I picked it up for £22.
At least you learned the gambling lesson with ectos and not BL chests, or worse, a actual casino.
Ideally zerker, but if the price of the mats + mats to change stats via mystic toilet are low enough any other piece will also do.
Imagine if you wanted to go play in a raid or something and the party requirement was “Norn only” or “Human only” or a WvW raid with “Sylvari Only.”
Reminds me of Neverwinter Online’s PvP a while back where the entire top strat of PvP was entirely Halflings with the occasional half-orc because their racial bonuses were just that much better than every other class for PvP.
It’s not something I’d like to see again. I rerolled so many characters for that
Question, I mean no sarcasm here, but how do ppl know certain builds do more or less
dps than others if dps meters are illegal. Doesn’t this type of ideology destroy the core
principle of not having a “holy trinity” in gw2. Any reply would be appreciated….ty
I believe that dps meters that do not read the memory are allowed. There’s one that calculates dps based on visually reading your combat log iirc. That and there’s a lot of theorycrafters crunching numbers for this stuff in most games.
If Anet really wants more raiders in GW2 they need a few things:
1) Better LFG/grouping tool – it needs to support squads at least.
2) “Story” mode raid difficulty – make the enrage timer longs, lower the mob HP, lower the mob damage and reduce the rewards appropriately.
3) Weekly raid bonus – something like kill one raid boss and get bonus obsidian shards or something, maybe a token you can trade a bunch in towards a raid weapon/armor skin.
Basically if Anet wants to have something that isn’t just the haves (have the ability, time and a group to raid) and have-nots (anyone without one of those three) then they need to provide the support structure for it.
I think SWTOR does it fairly well with it’s “Story mode” raids/operations which most players that can complete a dungeon/flashpoint should be able to complete with a little perseverance, even with the random group finder. Similarly, Hard and Nightmare in SWTOR provide steps up in difficulty that people can work and aspire towards and require a better understanding of their class and more teamwork to successfully complete.
Of course, this requires dev time and dev time requires money.
