I’m finally playing through Witcher 3, which had been sitting in a drawer for the last year cause of SWTOR raids then GW2. I’ve been scratching my PvP urges with Overwatch and League.

However if you want to play GW2 in the off season, then you might try and see if people are up for a few rounds of pick-up (find 10 people, assign 2 captains, pick teams and go into a private hotjoin) or some 1v1 or 2v2 duels.

Looks like no one's happy re balance patch.

WRT PvP. I think this is a pretty good balance patch, small changes are far better than wide sweeping yo-yo changes. That said, they should do PvP balance changes more than once per season and they certainly need to be entirely separate from PvE balance changes.

Nothing I’ve done in-game has become obsolete (remember in certain other MMO’s spending your “life-savings” on shoulder-pads that got out-dated by the latest patch). I can even be extra-specific here. Remember those exotics you worked so hard for three years ago? You can still wear them and play on high level (yes, yes, we all like to think we need our ascended-level gear). So once again thanks developers and players alike!

This is actually the reason that I feel GW2 is the easiest MMO to put down for a while and then take back up later. Wheras with many other major MMOs you basically have to grind your gear again to be fully relevant GW2’s lack of vertical gear creep means you can dive straight back in where you left off.

GW2 is well executed in many ways, and like any game less so in others. All in all, I’d say it’s certainly one of the better MMOs available to play.

(I’d also like to say that SWTOR, WoW, Neverwinter and FF14 are all pretty kitten ed good and if one wishes to take a break from GW2 at some point I recommend all of them, though some more than others and some only to those with coin.)

  • HoT abilities that do all sereval of the above at once + high damage
  • Condis2strong
  • Power2strong
  • Class Stacking
  • Opaque matchmaker (might as well be completely random, from what little info we actually get)
  • Low population
  • Toxic population
  • Yo-yo class balance
  • Time limited achievements
  • Pretty much all conquest
  • Stronghold queue times (for you SH lovers, all 5 of you!)

It’s basically filled with people playing DH, but who don’t realise that no matter how low a skill floor the class has, you still need to actually rotate. (gotta love 4 DH all standing on mid while the points tick away on the others).

Either way, it’s basically all DH, druid and revs.

Swap axe for mace to give yourself an extra stun.
Utilities, Signet of Might, Edure Pain, Zerk Stance

Take Arms 2-1-1 for the autoproc signet of might on <50% HP, 50% bonus crit on stunned foes and 100% crit on burst.

Dogged March or Shield master in Defense. Dogged march gives you regen when chilled from precision strike.
Shield master obviously gives you faster recharge on the shield stun and block + might on block which can be very useful when they use UA or SotM (stun them right after then burst). I’d prefer Shield master personally.

Remember to swap weapons to make use of cleansing ire – watch your vuln stacks from their sword autos.

Either take Eternal Champion for stability in zerk mode or Bloody roar for the taunt. I prefer stability, just because there’s so much CC thrown around by HoT classes.

You can feint out their stunbreaks with shield bash and pommel bash, use block vs UA to gain might stacks. Hopefully you’ll have stab from zerk when they use SotM, as soon as that ends and you’re sure they have no stun break easily available (ie, they swapped to glint or just used it) you can go in with either headbutt > arc divider and maybe 100b. If they do still have a stunbreak, you can bait it with Skullgrinder then use Headbutt into arc divider.

When they pop their shield block, use signet of might and smash them with either 100b or a burst. With both the utility and the auto proc you have 12 seconds of unblockable.

As long as you time your 4 CCs and don’t miss your primal bursts, you should do reasonably well. Since you ahve bonus crit chance when the opponent is dazed you want to load your damage into the windows after pommel bash, skull grinder and headbutt. Use Zerk stance to prevent blinds from causing you to miss key CC or burst windows.

Given SWTOR has something similar in it’s Jedi Consular “rescue”/Sith Sorc “Extrication” where you instantly pulled a targeted ally to your position….I’d use it to troll.

I used to run a SWTOR raid healer and every time we were waiting for a raid member to go to the toilet or something I’d run off ledges and pull a guildie to their inevitable death with me.

When they gave Powertechs “Translocate” which swaps places with a party member I had even more fun. The possibilities were limitless. XD

Every DH that I have seen runs at least 3 which includes the heal. Occasionally you’ll have one that uses the elite trap.

I was actually completely unaware that blinking or trying to block across the ToF trap still caused you to take damage. I’m sure that accounts for a lot of my issues since typically I’ll see the trap animations going off and just blink out in a panic. Good to know!

If it’s both Procession of Blades (the AOE blender) and Test of Faith, dodge roll out.

If it’s just PoB, walk/dodge/blink out. If you’re close to the edge you’ll only take a single tick from walking, if you’re right in the middle, dodge or blink.

If it’s Dragons Maw + PoB. Blink out. If you don’t have blink use a defensive. Shield 4, sword 2, distortion. If you don’t you’ll eat the full duration of PoB and probably die since you can’t exit the leftover ward without stability.

Ofc the best thing to do in all these instances is dodge when you get hit with the daze so you don’t get hit by the trap itself a quarter second later.

I love the tool kit for engie… except the pull NEVER works… Even against npc creatures it seems to have a weird glitch that makes it pull only a 4th of what’s intended, if it pulls at all.

I’ve seen this happen with the Guard GS and Spear pulls. The target just flops over and barely moves towards you. It’s both amusing and annoying.

Play something else. DH can’t solo kill druid unless the druid is terrible. Druid is countered by classes with easy to apply CC, mesmer and warrior are both good.

You should take the point since you can apply enough pressure to force them to heal/kite, but on any dps build they’ll outsustain you and just kill you from range. Just hope someone notices the minimap and comes to +1 before you get trashed.

On Menders Symbolic, you won’t die but you also won’t do anything to them.

I like;

Menders Symbolic DH – just be that annoying sob that won’t die.
P/D/SB Thief – Super versatile, amazing mobility.
Condishatter Chrono – Great mobility, shatters and condis for days.
GS/Mace/Shield Power Warrior – Super satisfying damage when you land a stun.

I dislike;
Staff thief – I just dislike the staff as a weapon, it’s also pretty cheesy vs people who haven’t learned when the staff evade frames end.
Revenant, all builds – Never clicked for me.

People flamed me for playing symbolic earlier in the season so I switched to mesmer/warrior/thief and continued to farm them.

Ofc, I then got comments like:

“Condi meta noob”

“10k crit OP arc divider”

“CCed 100-0 stupid warrior”

“Noob thief I just 1v1 in peace”

Flamers gonna flame man.

They set traps on a point and go hide behind a rock. The traps get me to 30-40% health, and none of my skills can get me out of it. I blink or retreat or dodge, and it just throws me back into the trap to take the damage. I swear when the trap goes off I can see their toon laughing as they appear. I’ll heal and get some clones out and shatter twice to get up to 75% health and get a couple of ranged hits in or blocks. I get the DH down to around 20% health and I think I’m winning. Then all they need to do is F1, drop another trap and hit me once or twice, grab a coffee while I’m stuck in the trap dying, they come back in time to stomp me, and magically they have 100% health as they do it. That is most of the DH I play, if they are a bad enough player or I get them while Dragon’s maw is on CD. Any fool can go stack 3-4 traps and hide.

Peck away from range with enough condis that they use their condi clears. Use clones and illusions to proc traps. Continue to do this until you’ve baited out their F2 and heal trap. Use clones to bodyblock spear. Use phase retreat or blink to create distance immediately if you get speared – you’ll still get pulled, but generally not far enough to get hit with the trap.

Gravity well with the centre placed just behind them when they pop their F3 block, ideally have CS going so you can double up on shatters and well.

Blast them with the full bomb while they’re CCed.

If they have their F2 still use staff 5 to interrupt it and apply more condis.

Watch them die while desperately channeling their invuln.

If you suspect a DH on the other team is running with a stability on F3 trait, bring Null Field.

If you eat a dragons maw + a pob for some reason and you aren’t instantly downed, sword evade/shield block or last resort F4 shatter until you can get out.

All the old cheese other than consumables and spawned minions have been patched. I suggest just asking for help from guild or in LA/AB – there will certainly be plenty of other people who haven’t finished this achievement because it was a pain. In a group of 3-5 however, it is very easy and fairly quick.

Plus rev doesn’t interrupt you every 5 seconds. If they removed daze on traps, guard would be balanced (removed in PvP only ofc).

The daze mostly punishes thieves and I suppose Ele’s that are on point. I’ve not found it an issue on other classes.

In fact the entire DH kit is pretty much a big kitten u to melee thief builds.

Rev has just as much blocks and invul but they also have one of the best mobility in the game whereas DH has no mobility. Rev are much harder to hit than DH imo.

Rev requires a higher level of mechanical skill and cooldown awareness to be able to chain the defensive successfully. Once you pass that threshold though, it’s an absolute terror that can take apart pretty much anything unless it gets kittened by condis.

There probably ought to be an overhang on the shield and sword platforms. Right now I just port up there around 1-2 secs to go on mesmer or thief and I’ve got a free buff vs anyone who hasn’t run up there before me.

Yes, the size of the points means that some AOE attacks cover most of the point (although there’s almost always somewhere you can stand along the periphery to avoid it). I think the idea is that this places reliable, consistent pressure on the bunker builds that are trying to hold the point. This makes life harder for the bunkers (which everyone complains is boring and passive), and means that teams need to rotate players in and out of the point.

This would make more sense if half the bunker classes weren’t also the prime culprits in the AOE spam battle.

I have yet to see a complaint about matchmaking that doesn’t boil down to “I’m not winning as often as I think I should, so clearly this is the game’s fault”.

I believe there were complaints in season 2 and 3 about “I’m kittenstomping everyone, when am I going to have a decent game?”

It’s not just the leagues. Unranked has gone to hell. You win a match by face rolling the other team, or you get hammered into the ground. I’ve not had a close match since the new patch dropped. I blame the new Map achievements having all the AP hunters coming in to PvP and messing things up.

Unranked game matchmaking perfectly balanced. No blow outs or anything.

The bezerker + valkyrie stat option just simulates taking half zerk and half valk. Which you can do with normal armor. You don’t have to wear a matching stat set, there’s no set bonus from it.

Also marauder exists.

PIPS/division should just have nothing to do with match making. This game has the single worst match making system I have ever seen.

That is how games tend to pair equal skilled players nowadays, just look how rocket league and the mobas do their stuff.

What would you sugest?

It works for them because they have enough players in each bracket and the brackets themselves are tied to an overall hidden MMR.

Currently in season 4 we have people with 3000mmr in sapphire and 500mmr people in legendary because pip/tier isn’t linked with mmr. Matchmaking basically double dips with pip/tier and mmr this season, which is why it’s a clusterkitten. This is supposed to change next season.

I think there’s a simple solution to the druid problem.

Make pet stats scale with the player’s amulet. Simple as that. No more tanking and dpsing at the same time.

The build is just there to augment your own ability. You want the play the build that suits both your team, counters the other team as best you can and mechanics suitable to your skill level on the class.

Case in point, your team has no bunker, you can play DH and scrapper. But you’re feeling off today. Pick DH for the lower mechanical floor since you won’t be making the most out of scrapper, despite it being the better pick if you have the ability to max it out.

Similarly, say your opposition has 2 DHs and you team also has 2DHs (pretty common). Picking rifle warrior is superior to a condi macebow or a melee GS/x build because you can take advantage of your DH meatshields to blow up the enemy DHs while not getting blasted by PBAoE. On the other hand if the other team has a druid, an ele and a DH, you might pick the melee GS/x build to avoid magnetic aura and sublime conversion.

Played well, with a build tailored to each game, I think a warrior is perfectly capable of holding their own in solo queue. Sometimes you’re gonna get cheesed by a 3 dragon’s maw+PoB DH comp, or go rifle warrior and end up farmed by a ridiculously good thief all game, but I think warrior is in a pretty good place with 2 viable builds and one situational build.

2DH, mesmer, druid and a invoc rev is the stompiest team comp imo. Roaming death duo in the DH, added mobility and decaps from the mesmer, group babysitter in the druid and rev in case you need to destroy another DH/scrapper/druid on a side node as well as to give the DH much needed swiftness.

Every single map should have foefire circles. Maybe make it so you can flip a point if you outnumber the other team as well.
