You really can’t dodge the amount of AOE that 2 DHs throw on a point. Even if you play a cheese condi evade thief, you’re gonna get CCed in vault and die. The classes that can compete 1v1 with DH are unsurprisingly either tanky sustain (scrapper and druid) or balls to the wall damage with highly effective short term defences (power warrior and shiro rev).

In this meta and in this node based game mode, the AOE spam king is DH, at least for this season. Previously it was condi warr with fire field and CC spam, before that it was necro with condispam and damaging chill (RIP). Scrapper has been relevant forever because it’s tanky with reasonable AOE damage.

The sad thing is, if you nerf bunker type builds to the ground so they aren’t playable, then you just go back to the 100-0 burst builds which isn’t exactly fun (on the receiving end) either.

I’ve only scrapper or another DH be able to hold point for a prolonged period (longer than 3-5 mins) vs a DH. A scrapper should be able to beat a DH, but it’ll be a long fight.

Druid will lose point due to stealth from CA. They won’t even come close to dying, but that doesn’t really matter since they can’t hold the point.

Warrior will either have to kill relatively quick or concede the point as well, the longer the fight lasts the better it is for the DH.

A power rev should be able to kill the DH provided they can avoid the initial burst.

Thief generally gets creamed.

Ele might survive for a while, especially vs a mender spec but will likely get killed the moment they get hit with a CC by a marasymbolic build.

Necro is a free kill if they’re solo for all DH specs.

I’m not sure how mesmer fares, I haven’t seen enough this season. Likely loses point but might be able to 100-0 the DH with a continuum split cc shatter combo or a condi bomb at 50% HP with their cleanses down.

Stacked DH is just ridiculous tbh and is imo a prime example of why anet need to introduce restrictions on class stacking in solo queue. Just as bad as the necro stacking in season 2 but with power damage instead of condis. Both classes had massive amounts of unavoidable AOE that synergised far too well together on the tiny little capture points.

What buff did DH received?

Aurashare ele got nerfed hard.

Sword doesn’t fling projectiles around now.

Scepter auto projectiles are slightly faster so you can’t strafe avoid them from 50 units away.

Symbols on each main hand weapon.

Mostly all the DH counters got nerfed either directly (ele, scrapper as well to an extent) or indirectly (anything that used to rely on ele to heal them through DH burst).

There’s 3 reasonably meta DH builds.

> Marauder symbolic – on point deepz from symbols, test of faith and melee range (because scepter really isn’t great for hitting anything past a node diameter) damage. Weak to ranged classes, goes even with scrappers.

> Mender symbolic – on point node control and party support. Trades deepz for healz. Basically a bunker build. You may see them run fragments of faith for stability on trigger and more aegis heal (since it scales well with healing power) as well as shelter (to force people off point so it flips).

> Marauder LB Meditrapper – the old lb meditrapper build, but now with sword/focus instead of gs.

All DH builds are weak vs good revs, softcountered by druid and tend to be either softcountered or even with scrapper. The marauder builds can also be countered with various power warrior builds.

They can sometimes be countered with heavy condi damage once below 50% HP so they die while channelling their invulnerability elite, however against a condi heavy team most will pick the trait that condi clears on block or run an additional cleanse utility instead of JI.

Always pick Capricorn in Unranked

I haven’t got the achievement because I went off on holiday, then played ranked. Tonight I’ve literally played vs the same premade 3 times in a row on 3 different maps that aren’t Capricorn. To make things even more fun in two of those game I had 1 or 2 people instantly afk in base with “waste of time”. This kittening game.

  • The bell capture point really needs to be a large capture point like the archway. Right now layering AOEs makes it a little more of a clusterkitten than it should be, and fights on it aren’t as exciting as they could be. I think making the bell capture point larger would also make encounters here more fun to observe.

With the DH/druid meta this is a particular issue if the team stacking those classes arrives first. Good luck getting 2 DH and a druid off point. XD

Make Races Meaningful?

When the mmo Neverwinter launched races had pretty meaningful bonuses. Naturally once the meta matured in PvP you had every single high end PvPer rollling halfling alts for 70% of the classes for the racial constitution bonus. Similarly in PvE quite a few people rolled min-max race based alts.

I believe the game has significantly lessened the impact of the racial bonuses at endgame now, but in the first year and a half it was extremely significant…having a min-maxed halfing would often mean much greater survivability in PvP vs an INT focused Drow for example.

Thus, I think racial bonuses and abilities should be for fun rather than for any real purpose.

We’re going to test around 3000 units. That’s a little less than mid to side nodes on most maps.

Seems too far to make any difference at all, I can’t remember the last time I got rallied from an entire node away. 1200-1500 units would be better imo.

Are too small. Every single map should have points the same size as Foefire. It blows my mind that instead we have points that are 99% covered by any ground targeted aoe and 50% covered by a single cleave.

Rev should beat all three meta guard builds. Ranger should beat all except symbol menders, probably ought to beat menders as well if they’re running a power lb build…but I find those rangers tend to get rekt by thieves before killing you once someone calls out that they’re running a damage amulet.

No, i don’t see an issue with that. Guardian is the equivalent of a palladin class in other games, so that the menders symbolic build can heal itself for so much seems like exactly what guardian should have had access to from the very beginning. It’s what justifies the guardian having low hp and low mobility. Thf has mobility and i would honestly argue that ele is the one that needs a buff between the 3 low hp classes, since ele can neither self heal or damage negate as a guardian but it can’t move between points fast enough or escape from fights like thf can, leaving few options in battle.

I believe his numbers are actually for marauder symbolic build.

Mender heals are:
~1.1k from selfless daring.
~1.1 from ageis pure of heart.
~1.1k per symbol from writ.

Menders symbol is basically a melee version of menders druid-sustains for days and just wears you down. Being a melee version of menders druid is also why it loses vs druids…they do the same thing but without eating your symbol and trap damage while also being able to avoid scepter damage.

You missed guardian which is prob one of the most annoying ones in a 2v2 or 1v2 fight due to the knockback.

Guard res also refreshes the F3 if running meditation line (which every pvp guard runs for the traited medi heal and smite condis). So you can often knockback with the res trait, F3 block res then F3 again when they’re up to allow the ally time to heal to full or do w/e. It’s strong af and imo probably the strongest resser alongside druid SnR and scrapper gyro.

Now some additional questions:

  • If you could add one ammo type to the treb (poison shot, healy shot, etc.) what would it be?

Poison – because there’s too much healing in the game.

  • How long (in seconds) do you think it should take the treb to turn from Home to Far?

About twice the time it takes for a player with 33% swiftness to run there with no shadowsteps or blinks.

Yeah, every other game is complete trash. The games are bad, the pip progression system is bad, the class balance is bad. Every time you think sPvP can’t possibly be worse than the previous season…anet finds a way.

I’m fairly certain the PvP devs don’t actually play their own game.

Class stacking should be removed as well. Nerf class stacking. No more than 2 of a class. You just have to look at why it was banned from ESL and the rampant issues every season with fotm class stacks to realize that allowing multiples of the same class is completely kittened – especially when the devs can’t balance for kitten.

Nearly everything introduced in the HoT needs nerfs and pretty heavy ones. Too much AOE spam, CDs too low, heals too high, too many passives…list goes on.

Yeah not often, same frequency as warrior I think. Just kinda forgot about them though. I think it’s getting shafted hard by the current meta since Guard and Druid have buttloads of cleanses, warrior ignores your condis and there’s a fairly sizable number of mallyx revs.

Still you see some really good ones – one guy lst night won a clutch 1v2 on necro vs rev and scrapper to give our team a 500:488 victory.

I’ve been running this melee build for a while actually, it’s pretty fun, especially vs revs and guards. (Nothing like a rev finding out their shield 5 autoproc does nothing. XD)

Sometimes I play different variations with a rifle or with discipline instead of arms, different rune or ammy, etc. But in general, power warrior does well vs guard and scrapper.

The population is probably in the low-mid hundreds per continent at this point. Basically nobody is playing anymore and the few that are probably play 1-2 games, get fed up and go back to whatever else they were doing.

The binary win or lose nature of pips makes things far more toxic than needed. Enjoying a close game is hard if it costs you the pip and winstreak you needed to climb that tier/division. Pips + 50/50 MMR = ridiculously frustrating experience unless you have time to play 100s of games a day or you’re good enough to 1v9.

For a game where you might have to fight DH regularly, then unblockable gunflame power build is very effective. Typically condis are pretty ineffective vs DH and Scrapper as they have good condi clear and without taking high spike damage they also have good sustain.

Indeed, the outdoors has pretty decent graphics and even runs on a integrated GPU.

tbh, I’m just messing with you. Everyone knows this season is a complete kittenshow. The 50/50 + pip system, the class stacking, no testing to see if nerfs to other classes would make DH OP…list goes on. Anet shouldn’t stream their esports on twitch, they should show it on the comedy channel instead.

Alright, right now rev is pretty much the one class I completely suck balls with (also dps ranger, but nobody plays that right?) Any tips on how to play this class, matchups, combos besides the shiro>dagger>UA setup?

I just find this entire class unbelievably clunky to play (even more so than stock engi) and every time I pick it up for a few rounds (in unranked, don’t get tooo mad) I am reminded why I stopped playing it.

I guess I might as well add that I get melted by condis, I can block and evade a lot of attacks but when I feel completely useless when there’s both a condi warr and a mes/necro on a point – at some point I’ll have a butt load of condis and be forced to disengage.

Until the ‘carried’ new players get matched up with other carried new players, and get their MMR tanked from the blowout defeat they get from that. Or those who’ve had their MMR tanked by bad teammates getting teamed up randomly, and raising their MMR in a blowout match against truly low-MMR players.

Which happened at ruby t1 the last few seasons because you could lose pips and tiers at ruby t1.

Neverwinter online has/had a internet gateway where you could use the auction house and craft. It’s been severely restricted since it’s initial release(on game launch) because people used it to auto bot craft skills and auction house snipe.

I fought a 5DH team with a 2 thief, 1 necro, 1 warr(me) and 1 druid team. We stomped them because we rotated better and our thieves picked their fights once they saw a DH was fighting either me or the druid and had blown defensives.

You fight multiple DH teams in a similar way to how you fought multiple necro teams in season 2. You split them up, gank them with superior numbers to ensure a quick kill and outrotate them because they have crappy map mobility. As long as you don’t feed the meat grinder(aka, rush mid and get blended by AOE) you should be able to win most of the time.

I had similar games the entire day yesterday vs 4-5 DH comps where this strat generally worked very well.
