Traits that should get adjusted

-Remorseless currently gives 1 attack 25% bonus dmg, which is a bad design because most of ranger’s damage is done via fast multi hitting attacks and the way it is now clashes with moment of clarity. Change it so that it gives x% more damage for a few seconds (lets say 4) when you gain fury. Or maybe gain x about of power for a few sec after gaining fury (a ranger version of reveled training).

MoC and Remorseless does not “clash” Those two traits work very well together. Just because remorseless ranger isn’t the strongest build right now, it is not necessary to completely remove this kind of playstyle (GS burst).

Scrapper, Reaper, DH and even Warrior have decent cleave dmg (and CC too).
Actually i think, every class has better cleave dmg than ranger.

Edit: Dmg is not only useful to keep the downed down, but to put pressure on the ressing players and eventually kill them too. Poison and slow is great to lower the res speed, but without additional dmg it won’t do much.

how can you consider druids having bad cleave options?

1) aoe poisn with glyph
2) aoe daze with glyph
3)aoe knockback with glyph
4) aoe daze with avatar
4) aoe slow with avatar

apart from a mesmer-resistence-rezz ,the slow + cc is probably the best cleave you can have.
I would say that revenant is the only class that has better cleave opportunities thanks to it’s pure dmg output.

CC is useless against stab/invuln. Poison alone won’t stop somebody from ressing, if there is not enough damage. And cleave damage is, what ranger/druid lacks.

I don’t get what you’re trying to say with the first point. Yes, a condi burst is essentially the same as a power burst. Both rely on the surprise factor to deal a ton of damage. So?

So both = active. Just what i wanted to say.

Secondly, whether your build has mobility or not is irrelevant. You can rotate nonetheless. Moreover, this game isn’t balanced around 1v1. Would you send someone to 1v1 a shoutbow war or d/d cele ele pre-nerf and pre-HoT? No. Case in point.

1vs1 is part of PvP and shouldn’t be ignored completely. And nobody is saying, DS ele shouldn’t be still strong against condi builds. Just that 100% immunity against a certain type of dmg is a bad mechanic.

Third point, false again. Condi can be built as burst or sustained like power. Saying condi can be negated by cleanse is like saying power damage can be negated by active defenses. E.g. someone saw your condi burst coming and cleanses right after you apply condi = you failed at bursting. Similarly, someone sees your power burst and dodges = you failed at bursting as well. How is this relevant to toughness though? Fact remains that power damage is easily countered by toughness.

Active defense/dodging works against condi application too. Cleanses don’t work against power. Don’t compare two completely different things. Thoughness is an additional defense against direct dmg. Cleanses are an additional defense against condis. They work differently and have both different advantages and disadvantages.

And yes, condibuilds can be “bursty”, but they still can’t 100 -> 0 other players as fast as some power builds. (theoretically – in practice, both power and condi “oneshot” builds are not viable). Generally condis (= dmg over time) kill slower.

There is still no reason to not give a class 100% immunity against power above 90% health, right?

What? You’re kidding right? If I have a toughness amulet on, it will definitely take more power damage (output) to kill me as compared to condition damage.

If you use cleanses, it will take way more condi dmg, regardless of stats …

Does Diamond skin need a nerf ?

in PvP

Posted by: UmbraNoctis.1907

UmbraNoctis.1907

False. You apply condis and you watch them tick and kill. On the other hand, you have to apply power damage constantly to kill someone.

Condis need more time for their full effect, but this does not mean, they don’t have to be applied constantly. Especially when they often get cleansed. If i condibomb somebody and then just watch till he dies 10s later, it is basically the same as killing somebody with power burst in 1-2 seconds. Only difference: I don’t have to wait 10s for the stomp …

1. You can play around diamond skin even if you are a pure condi build by rotating. (Would you put a thief vs a guardian 1v1 pre-HoT? My point exactly. You have counters? Deal with it.)

Thief could easily rotate because of mobility. Most condi builds aren’t that fast. And guards did not counter a whole playstyle just with a single passive trait. DS means, that NO single condi build can do anything. Not only one class …

2. Condition damage does not have a counter stat like power does (toughness).

Power dmg can’t be negated after getting hit by it. Condis can …
And condis need more time to kill, which gives the opponent more time to react (cleanse, heal, counter pressure, calling friends for help, …)

3. Condition damage does not have a widely applicable and available counter boon (protection). Resistance is only available to certain classes and have low uptime as compared to protection.

Resistance = 100% immunity. Protection = 33% reduction. Big difference.
Btw i think, there is too much protection in the game currently. One reason, why most powerbased dps builds are not viable currently …

4. Power based builds require 3 stats to truly perform (power precision ferocity) while condition based builds only need one (condition damage) as condition damage hurts even without being able to crit.

Slower killspeed -> more time for counter pressure -> more defense needed to survive long enough, so the condis can do their work.

UmbraNoctis.1907

Using skills, which apply condis is not more passive than using skills which deal mainly direct dmg. And the majority of condis are still applied by active skill use.

Edit: You can not “play” arround DS, you can only build arround it (not running pure condi builds). For those who say DS is fine: would be a trait, which gives 100% immunity to direct dmg above 90% health fine? On a class with strong condi remove and sustain? Let’s say, ranger’s Bark Skin gives now 100% reduction instead of 33%. Would be totally balanced, right? Because you don’t have to run pure power builds …

[PvP build] Poison Master

The DPS is pretty nice. Not anywhere near high but still has a powerful spike.
It’s hard to demonstrate by words. You’d actually have to see for yourself.

I use bristelback and smokescale myself, so yea, i’m familiar with their dmg.

It just bothers me, that those two pets seem mandatory for pretty much every somewhat viable ranger build. Which makes all those builds feel too similar, even with different traits and skills. In the end it just comes down to “pack enough survability to be able to stay on point against meta builds and let those pets do the rest”. Things like more poison, CC, might stacking, whatever else a special build might offer, seem to be only minor differences, which barely affect the gameplay.

what if, mm = mmr, mp = divisions

in PvP

UmbraNoctis.1907

Maybe it would work, if you could always loose pips (including loosing divisions), so at some point divisions could represent MMR. Well, at least roughly. But currently everyone is able to get at least to ruby, if he just plays enough. And then some ppl would be stuck there, supposed to win against better opponents (because they might have lower divisions), unable to progress and unable to go down to lower divisions. Could lead to very frustrating situations.
And your system would still favour premades, who can take low divison players to lower their predicted winchance for better pip gain (doesn’t even have to be intentionally).

Why do people say score doesn't matter?

in PvP

Posted by: UmbraNoctis.1907

UmbraNoctis.1907

Yes, that’s what the word “often” means. Not necessarily, but many times things that score points also help wins. Can you find situations where scoring personal points didn’t contribute to the win? Absolutely, but they’re not frequent. People don’t get top score by double-capping points the entire match. Even piling on to a guaranteed kill just for personal score isn’t always a bad thing as I’ve seen “guaranteed kills” get reversed because someone was able to rez them in some way.

Double capping is not that often, yes, but overcommitting to a kill or loosing caps, because people prefer decapping over defending, is very common. Maybe not so much at top-tier level, but definitely at low and mid MMR areas. Where most player, who think personal score is meaningful, are located.

Why do people say score doesn't matter?

in PvP

UmbraNoctis.1907

[…]BUT things that contribute to personal score often do contribute to winning the match.

Not necessarily. Tagging an almost downed/dead player will give you points for “kills” even if it was completely needlessly. Capping a point will increase your score, even if somebody else is already capping. Decapping isn’t always contributing to the win, if you loose your own point in return. And so on …

Things that increase the personal score CAN contribute to winning or they can loose you the match. It is completely situational and the score doesn’t reflect this.

Exactly, 19k = 19000
It is possible to deal this kind of dmg with certain skills/combos but it comes usually with a huge trade-off. Will Reapers be getting a nerf?

in PvP

Posted by: UmbraNoctis.1907

UmbraNoctis.1907

If you can’t attack the Reaper from outside 600 range because of obstacles, he can’t attack you either.

This wouldn’t be a problem, if pvp wasn’t all about capping kittening points.

If the Reaper is on Staff, they have okay life force generation (try strafing to dodge the auto, it works quite well), but low pressure. Reaper’s Mark is the important one to dodge and has a very unique animation. Conversely, if they’re on Scepter, they have high pressure, but low life force generation.

Chillblains is as dangerous as Reaper’s Mark and it looks exactly the same as other marks. And the casting animation from staff 5 itself isn’t much different from other marks (I even tried necro/reaper myself to learn the animations, but couldn’t see much difference on staff animations).

And i wouldn’t call staff low pressure, chill alone forces you to cleanse.

On either one, chill application is limited to just two skills outside of shroud (nobody runs Spectral Grasp) if you’re outside 600 range. Both skills are on staff and have decent cooldowns.

Don’t forget sigil of ice, traited signets, chill of death, …

Even so, Chill in PvP caps out at ~800 DPS, which is hardly difficult to deal with. Heck, Burning did more than that before the condition changes.

Burning did about the same, not more. And unlike chill it has no additional effects aside dmg, yet burning was on of the strongest conditions even back then.

What exactly are you doing while the Necro is spending several seconds applying chill, minor poison, some torment, and starting to stack bleeds? Nothing? You aren’t dodging the main condi applicators? You aren’t blocking/blinding? You aren’t applying any pressure whatsoever while the Necro is vulnerable outside of shroud?

Dodging which main condi applicators? Marks which look all the same (well almost)? Unavoidable procs like chill of death or sigils? Blocking unblockable marks? Blinding from 1200 range? Pls tell me how to do all this, i really want to learn how to counter condi reaper.
But to answer your question, i’m cleasing and running away because currently this is the only way to stay away far enough to survive.

Also, I’ve never heard obstacles used as a reason to label one individual class imbalanced. Here I’d thought I’d seen it all.

I didn’t used obstacles as a reason to call reaper op.

Will Reapers be getting a nerf?

in PvP

UmbraNoctis.1907

There is counter*play*. Cleanse and kite when the Necro is in Reaper Shroud. Keep slows up and simply dodge away from the Shroud #2, or just make sure to dodge Shroud #5. When the Necro isn’t in Shroud, apply burst/damage/focus/etc. Dodge the LF generating abilities, if you feel inclined to keep the Necro out of Shroud, or dodge the highest damage/condi applying abilities if you want to mitigate the damage potential.

And counterbuilding is part of the game. You expect every class spec to be balanced against every class spec in 1v1? Is that what you think this game is about? If you don’t expect that, then it’s necessarily the case that certain builds will be better against certain other builds. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. If you do expect that, then I think you’ve been misinformed.

You are talking as if reapers can’t deal any dmg outside of shroud. Staff has 1200 range, scepter 900. Chill, poison, few bleeds, fear, torment, and even more chill … Everything can be applied without shroud. Doesn’t need high stacks, just some condis to cover the chill. If the take sigil of ice they can apply chill even with autoattacks.
Dodging the LF generating abilities? Such as staff auto and marks? Oh wait, marks generate LF even if you dodge them …
And pvp maps offer plenty obstacles to block ranged attacks so it is often not possible to attack from outside of 600 range …

It’s pretty disgusting to witness how lazy people are at attempting to figure things out on their own.

Using resistance spam or diamond skin has nothing to do with “learning how to counter”. It is just counterbuilding and limited to very few classes. If the only aviable counter is picking the right class and traits, otherwise you can’t do anything, it actually means, there is no real counterplay to condi reaper.

You’ve got the “marked” buff from sentries, white swords if an objective is under attack and you can easily guess where your enemy is by using a livemap (or just taking a look at those new pop up messages). If you still can’t find any enemies with all of that then I’m sorry to tell you that the servers you are playing against are apparently dead and switching back to the old borders would change nothing.

This worked well on the old maps, but now ppl are always gone if i head in the direction of those “enemy signs”. And yes, my main server isn’t the most populated server, but it was way better some months ago. Switching back to the old borders won’t solve this problem, true, it is too late now. But this doesn’t make the new map “good” in any way.

There would be still no reason to care about upgrading and defending keeps. Or to try to take a keep solo or with a small grp – takes too long even if it is undefended (which makes it incredible boring) and if it is defended you can’t do anything without superior numbers. There would be still annoying PvE machanics, which could destroy fights (well, if there were actually some fights …). It would still take too long to get arround the map due to its size and the lack of (usable) waypoints.

Idk, why you want the autoattack buffed, it should never be the “best” skill of a weapon, especially not if it is a non-projectile 1200 ranged attack. And staff auto is already one of the better staff skills. Usually all you have to do as a druid is kite arround, spam 1 and use 3+5 for occasional heals. Don’t make it even more braindead.
