What you are describing is not a bug with the camera.

Now the OP may have edited the title or post but I don’t see anywhere that he says its a bug.

And whether it is a bug or not is irrelevant. It’s probably an unintended consequence of the camera change.

But the way the camera now works with Arrowcarts is horrible. It needs to be changed.

I didn’t say anything about it being a bug until the administrator said what I had written was not a bug. I stated I didn’t think anyone was using it for its intended purpose and that the benefits didn’t outweigh the negatives.

And no, the original post has not been edited for anything except grammar.

What you are describing is not a bug with the camera.

Define bug: “A software bug is an error, flaw, failure, or fault in a computer program or system that causes it to produce an incorrect or unexpected result, or to behave in unintended ways.”

Although it’s in the beta stage, everyone expects errors; but unless you intended for people to exploit the vertical camera height to hit previously unreachable areas and have arrow carts have an unrealistic trejectory, it’s most definitely a bug.

A good solution keeping the camera changes would be to have arrow carts function similar to trebuchets with an actual projectiles.

I know…

Everyone and their mom is going kicking and screaming “KEEP CAMERA CHANGES”, but in all seriousness guys.

Is anyone genuinely using this for their intended purpose?
Is anyone using horizontal slider and playing like a old third-person shooter?
Is anyone playing floating 100m above their character? How stupid is that?

FOV is better just set to max, because you can see more.
Collision is probably helpful for those tight jumping puzzles or dense forests.
First Person is probably helpful for those in tight jumping puzzles.

Just do us all a favor. Admit the mistake and revert everything.

AC needs nerf now

Problem:
New camera allows AC’s to shoot areas previously un-hittable. If you were on an AC and couldn’t hit zergs directly because you couldn’t see them (due to them being behind a wall or whatnot), well, you can now. Just change the vertical to max and…

Band-aid Fix:
1. AC, Treb, and Cata should lock in first person view.
2. ???
3. Fixed.

Real Fix:
1. Keep FOV slider.
2. Remove all other sliders… really do we need to slide horizontally. Or float 100m above our player. Do you expect players to play like that?
3. Done.

*This is coming from a player who has only one character since launch. A ranger.

Let’s Clarify Some Things Together:

Rapid Fire was always this powerful. The only thing they changed was 50% cast time. Rapid Fire was always meant as a spike skill, but, pre-update, it did less damage per second than auto-attack. Since update they decreased the cast time to 50%, nothing else.

With this update the skill lasts 2.5 seconds. Things you can do:

A single dodge roll lasts .75 seconds. Which negates roughly 1/3 the skill.
Two consecutive dodges, 1.50 seconds. Which negates roughly 2/3 the skill.
Protect negates 33% of the damage.
A block skill, counterattack, lasts 3 seconds. This negates 100% the skill.
Line of sight. The negates 100% the skill.
Reflect. This negates 100% the skill.
Retaliation. Returns 198 + (0.075 * Power) of the victim.
Etc…

Let’s look at the weapon:

As the name implies, long range. Sure, but Engineers can throw grenades just as far and backwards.
1. Autoattack, useful only at range.
2. Burst skill, dodgeable, blockable, etc. Useful as an opening attack.
3. Stealth. Useful for stomping or short escape, but long cooldown means if this is avoided, your day is ruined.
4. Point Blank Shot. Useful for ledges or heal interruptions.
5. Barrage. Generic AoE damage for tagging.

Let’s look at some cons:

If you get close, the ranger is going to have to change weapon or suffer.
If the ranger is moving, they cannot attack flanks or sides. (If you’re chasing, your in a good spot).
Provides zero mobility.
Other than power, provides zero other uses.

Let’s sum it up together:

Sure, longbow is a bit cliche, but it’s the ranger niche. Other classes may use a more wide array of builds, but this is a rangers go-to build. It’s also extremely easy to counter and leaves the ranger basically defenseless. If you want a perfectly balanced game, go elsewhere. There’s going to be pro/con for each build, but we could go the route and remove all the good builds from the game, if that’s what everyone wants. No more hambow, no more infi-stealth thieves, no more shatter bombs, no more ice bow…

Longbow Ranger on ledge = stay away. Longbow Ranger on open field = dead.

Yesterday, they released a new patch to the game. Unfortunately, it messed up a lot of stuff. If you read the other bug section you’ll see tons of threads reporting bugs from the 3/16 update. I’m assuming that they are going to be fixing stuff fairly rapidly because of the sheer number of bug reports coming in. Hopefully, this doesn’t turn you off the game, but for us active players it sure is a pain.

Few things you could do:
-Report it to support. Hopefully, they get back to you fairly quickly.
-Look around. Maybe someone has posted a similar issue and has figured something out.
-Wait. Maybe in a day or so some of the issues from 3/16 patch will have been resolved.

Sweetfx doesn’t work with gw2 after update.
Disable sweetfx. remove / delete the .dll files and injector. (i moved to desktop until ANET fixes then i’ll move back).

Bugs I’ve found
-Area Loading Screens – broken. (Images shrunken and thrown to side)
-SweetFx doesn’t work with update, had to delete bin files to get game to initiate.
-Rampage As One and other reoccurring stability skills are now impossible to predict when they will end.
-Experience Bar – broken (just a black line now)
-PvP Reward Tracks – broken.
-Report a bug / in-game support – broken.
-Guild Chat – broken.
-Defiance doesn’t stop fear.


No fixes to known ranger bugs:
-Entangle still stealth-out-able, block-able, and occasionally fails to immobilize.
-Spirit of Nature 100% fail to cast if moving.
-Lightning Reflexes still over-affected by soft cc. Cripple = 75%+ distance reduction.
-Lightning Reflexes should dodge back towards camera, not player direction.

Although the issue of it being blocked is clearly a bug. And maybe stealth is a bug. But the pulsating of the skill is not a bug.

I think the pulsating although not a bug, it’s definitely not how they intended for it to work. They wanted the vines to be destroyed, but took the easy way out made it just reapply imob and threw a plant looking thing at target’s feet which doesn’t really do anything.

Ok. The whole long cooldown thing is really not a good idea as the game itself overly punishes that type of play.

I would think having access to extra fields would be extremely powerful. So either the duration would have to be short, or the cool down be longer, but it’s all up in the air, I suppose.

I’m still of the opinion the best option is to remove them entirely and simply have the utility skills grant auras to the Ranger’s pet.

That’s just it. It shouldn’t pulse a hard cc. It should be a un-removable condition that is removed when the vines are destroyed.

Entangle does direct damage and immobilize every 1.5 seconds as a pulse. This is why you can remove the immobilize and walk right out of it with condition removal so you dont have to destroy it. Maybe you are seeing this happen sometimes? I think this is also why stealth works because it is also dealing direct damage that comes with the immobilize. I would agree with the block as it’s listed as unblockable.

It would also be nice if directional skills didn’t go on full CD if the player moves behind you. The same issue happens with mesmer magic bullet and I’m sure other classes have similar problems.

A direct quote from the skill: “…immobilized until the vines are destroyed.”
It’s obvious it’s not functioning like it’s supposed to, but no one cares. Player’s shouldn’t be able to walk out when they please, block an unblockable skill, or just stealth out.

On the topic of reskin, at times my spirits will be skinned to a tree-like skin, at other times, it’s a ghostly skin. Not sure why, but yes on reskin.

Nature spirit res is too unpredictable in regards to movement and casting. If I’m moving and press 0 it’ll blow. If I press 0 and move (at times) before the animation it’ll blow. At times it’ll just not res anyone. This goes back to the rubberbanding of your first point.

What you’re seeing is the oakheart skin during the day and its ethereal version at night.
Yes, spirit of nature is bugged. It has almost a 100% chance to fail if cast while moving.

I agree its choppy movement, unpredictable animations, and hard to distinguish skins are all reasons I wanted to create this thread.

These are a few of the most annoying ranger bugs I could think of. There are plently more, but these are just some I wrote down.

Entangle:
-Can walk out of vines if you stealth. (Ugh, thieves)
-Can block. (Seriously, blocking something bursting from the ground at your ankles?)
-Vine’s imob sometimes doesn’t trigger, and enemies can escape randomly without having to destroy.

Spirit of Nature:
100% Fail to cast if casted while moving.

Lightning Reflexes:
-Sometimes fails to remove hard cc. (It should remove before evade, not after.)
-Soft cc shortens evade by more than 50% and up to 100%. (It shouldn’t remove the soft cc, but it shouldn’t reduce the distance of evading backwards.)
-Should evade against camera’s direction, not the character’s direction.

Shortbow and Longbow:
-All skills go into 100% cooldown if casted while moving at a foe behind ranger instead of shortened cooldown.
(Clarification: below only applies to firing a longbow/shortbow while moving. Firing while not moving is functioning correctly.)
-While we’re at it…Engineer’s grenades can be thrown almost as far as a Longbow and can be thrown backwards…over the shoulder…just as far…without penalty. I’m not saying bows should be able to be shot backwards, but it should fail to cast without cooldown and “not in range” notification.

In response to being aggitated at how stupid my spirits were acting one day, I decided to think about solutions. Below is what I thought a fantastic solution to spirits would be.

Behavioral rework of spirits - Spirits should not be rubberband-running all around the ranger with even the basic movement. They should hold a solid formation behind the ranger with the trait, Spirits Unbound. First, the spirits know exactly where to go and aren’t running around like mad. Secondly, the ranger can better control the positioning of their spirits. The formation should be determined by the order of casting with the elite, Spirit of Nature, taking place in the center regardless. They should be close enough to affect foes with active effects but far enough to not be constantly cleaved. If backed into a wall, the spirits should remain backed onto the wall and not position themselves infront of the ranger. If backed into a corner, the spirits should cluster into the corner as they try to remain in position while being forced back. In water, their behavior should remain the same.

1 spirit – a short distance, directly behind ranger
2 spirits – form a triangle with ranger at top.
3 spirits – form a semi-circle behind ranger.
4 spirits – form a semi-circle behind ranger.
5 spirits – form a semi-circle behind ranger. Max. Spirit of Nature centered between ranger and semi-circle.
6 spirits – Impossible.

Reskin of spirits - Spirits should have an obvious give away without having to hold control to see which is which. I propose that spirits be stripped of their cliche oakheart skin and be given a colored wisp skin (Frost – White, Sun – Red, Wind – Purple, Water – Blue, Nature – Green, Stone – Brown). This reskin would also fix that awkward, super-speed walk that spirits constantly do wherever they go.

Spirit f2 rework
Spirits f2 should be changed to the spirit release a corresponding combo field, except Spirit of Nature. Of course, they would need an appropriately long cooldown. Their animation could be a sort of melting into the field or draining of its color while casting.

Water – Water Field
Storm – Lighning Field
Earth – Poison Field
Sun – Fire Field

This reworking and reskining benefits both rangers and other players.
-Rangers can control and position their spirits better.
-Rangers can easily remove spirits from aoe.
-Other players can identify and target specific spirits quickly.
-Other players can easily identify spirits before engaging.
-Both, rangers and other players, can track the movement of spirits easier.

Sweetfx works way better.

Remember gemfx is still kind of early stages and doesn’t fully support dx9. It works, but it’s definitely not up to participate with sweetfx. You can, however, run your sweetfz settings with it; but without an auto updater, it’s kind of pointless.

People obviously don’t know what they’re talking about, haven’t visited heartofthorns.guildwars2.com, or watched the PAX announcement.

They didn’t announce any maps. They announced we will be going into the heart of maguuma which will have three biomes. A biome does NOT indicate a map, region, area, etc.

People who keep reiterating “1 map” or “3 maps” don’t know what they’re talking about. I would speculate a large chunk of the maguuma to be playable.

Literally all that was said was:
-Travel further into the Maguuma Jungle
-New Profession
-Profession Specializations (Not much is known)
-Masterys (Sounds similar to wvw mastery but gliders, etc)
-WvW Borderlands
-New PvP Mode
-Guild Halls

They will expand on each of these topic as we progress towards release date (Not announced). They did say 6 weeks until a playable demo.

Back during the first days and months of GW2. The days when collecting silver was an accomplishment. Gold was exciting.

[Suggestion] The Reward System Is All Wrong

How much junk do you have lying in your inventory from the living story? Bank? How much? Chances you probably have stacks horded away for “when your going to use it”, or it has just accumulated in the last 10 minutes of playing.

It’s not really about the spam, but the diminishing feeling of satisfaction from those items. Remember that first exotic you bought after much hardship and work? Satisfying, right? Remember those 347 stacks of presents you had to open…? Not so much. Let’s elaborate…

Things given way too much:

Tomes of Knowledge / Scrolls of knowledge: these should be a very, very rare occurance. Instead you get ~10-20 every login. There is no such thing as leveling up any more or working to get to level 80. Just open that bank and spam click.

Gold: Those days when getting gold was tough are gone. Just do a couple dungeons and your given 1-1.5g every path. I remember when the game first came out, and it felt so rewarding to buy that next piece of exotic gear. Now it’s like, “Cool, did a couple dungeons and got 50g. I may as well start another ascended armor set.” Gold has pretty much lost all value since it has lost its rewarding feel.

Junk: (particularly living story junk): who doesn’t have 5 or 6 stacks of bandit crests, abundance of presents, oodles of snowflakes, mounds of key, piles of new snowfall runes, millions of silky sand, and an amass of winters day weapons all seemingly unwilling to be sold out of your inventory. I get it, ‘tis the season and all that, but it’s beyond ridiculous.

Dust, Fragments, and Dragonite: supposedly these are supposed to be “endgame” tier 6 materials, but they are hands-down the most abundant materials in the game. Even if each current drop yielded 0-1 instead of ~10 they would still be overflowing inventories everywhere.

Conclusion
A little reward goes a long way, but when given in excess it no longer is a reward. The “reward” at launch was seeing that work pay off and feeling that fullfilment. I firmly belive that reducing all rewards would eventually make those rewards feel, once more, rewarding. I’m not saying everything should be a grind, absolutely not. But it’s evident that ANET doesn’t understand meaningful and fulfilling reward system. In fact, I would say it’s going the totally wrong direction (see above).

Solution
1. Reduce the spam. You’re not rewarding, you’re just making the player complacent.
2. Before new content is released, (b)limit (/b) how many junk items will be added and have a absolute way of removing them (Remove on map exit? Are they even necessary? If a player plays for one hour does he need 300 superior Sigils of mischief and 700 minor, or should he/she maybe recieve 1, if they’re lucky?)

Why, on kitten’s green earth, isn’t there an ascended trinket for every stat? I have a few major issues with this…

1) Missing entire sets, in general. (To many to name)

-Back items: 5 sets.
-Accessories: 19 sets.
-Amulets: 14 sets.
-Rings: 15 sets

Examples:
-No Assassin rings / Assassin accessories available
-No Magi rings / Magi accessories available

I think we can all agree that all sets should be complete.

2) Sets missing pieces.
-Apothecary back missing offensive

How?

3) Mixing sets.
-Berserker / Valkyrie
-Dire / Rabid
-Rabid / Apothecary

I’m all for “build diversity”, but what is the logic behind adding, what I’m going to call, “mixed sets” before even finishing the basic sets? If all the sets that ANET wanted to implement were completed, and they had run out of ideas, fine. OR……..

Maybe a better solution would be to allow crafting of two rings, in a particular order to make major / minor, to create your custom “mixed ring”.
Ex. Ring of Red Death(Berserker)+Forgotten Band(Nomad)= Custom Ring (Berserker/Nomad). For those who want to take build diversity to the next level. Instead of adding a million more randomly named sets that fill up loot tables.

4) Back Items
It would be much easier to have all back items “Select Stat” since there are 5 named sets and 7 select stat back items.

5) Infusion slot
The point of having offensive/defensive/utility slots is pointless. Having trinkets just have a “slot” and the warning “You may not have duplicate trinkets” would be sufficient. I understand they don’t want people to stack, for instance, 6 +20% mf; but the whole concept is poorly designed. I would rename them “infusion”, make each stat abailable, and have AR on each, and rebalance the current utility from ~20% to 5% bonuses. Also, the WvW bonuses are completely out of place here.

Closing Remarks
I love the idea of adding new sets with the living story.
I love the collection rewards (Although they should be available normally, but have an alternative acquisition by collections).

I disagree.

The game is play how you want, but remember:

Every game ever is going to favor pure damage over any and all else in PvE / player vs AI.
PvP is going to vary depending upon skill and team composition.

Sure, home instances was one of those areas that totally flopped,
GvG was forgotten, and dungeons abandoned; but the game is still clearly play how you want.

You shouldn’t have to reset it. Open your hero panel, go to finishers, and select the one you want. If your using one with limited users, it will reset to default when all uses are consumed. If you purchased, it will have unlimited uses and never need reseting.
